However, it made the public more aware about the existence of debt collection services which motivated them to fulfil their debt obligations. Pandemic also increased the number of default accounts bringing more business for collection agencies and inducing growth.
Rise in Digital Collections: Debt Collection companies used to rely on phone-calls to make recoveries which led to terrible customer experience and wastage of time. Digital collections are being extensively used which leverages analytics to make the process more efficient and act as catalysts for the industry.

book rec by me
so you want to get back into reading books but have no idea where to start and disdain booktok (if you get me started on this however i will become an unskippable cutscene so that's for another day). understandable. there is so much out there and it is all so overwhelming and you don't even know what you like now that you've been a decade out of the game. again, understandable. it does not have to be scary. i will help you. below i have created some categories that can get you started.
i want to read Literature
literary fiction, with crossover from historical fiction and magical realism
PEACH BLOSSOM SPRING by melissa fu
THE VASTER WILDS by lauren groff
THE FAMILY CHAO by lan samantha chang
OUTER DARK by cormac mccarthy
SEVERANCE by ling ma
LIGHT FROM UNCOMMON STARS by ryka aoki
IDENTITTI by mithu m. sanyal
PIRANESI by susanna clarke
i want to read sci-fi/fantasy that won't break my brain
sci-fi and fantasy that is gentler on the brain cells. easier to grasp magic systems with multiple but not an overwhelming number of overlapping plotlines
EMILY WILDE'S ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF FAERIES by heather fawcett
KINGS OF THE WYLD by nicholas eames
THE JASMINE THRONE by tasha suri
THE CITY OF BRASS by s.a. chakraborty
A RIVER ENCHANTED by rebecca ross
JUNIPER AND THORN by ava reid
BLACK SUN by rebecca roanhorse
THE FINAL STRIFE by saara el-arifi
THE BONE SHARD DAUGHTER by andrea stewart
i want to read sci-fi/fantasy that forces me to lock the fuck in
i would not recommend picking these up as your first foray back into books after many years of not reading recreationally, but i'm not your mom.
THE SPEAR CUTS THROUGH WATER by simon jimenez
JADE CITY by fonda lee
THE FIFTH SEASON by n.k. jemisin
THE RAGE OF DRAGONS by evan winter
A MEMORY CALLED EMPIRE by arkady martine
GIDEON THE NINTH by tamsyn muir
THE ART OF PROPHECY by wesley chu
THE GRACE OF KINGS by ken liu
horrify me!
there is far more to the horror literary canon than stephen king and dean koontz, i promise. consider looking up warnings for these.
TENDER IS THE FLESH by agustina bazterrica
THE RUINS by scott smith
CONFESSIONS by kanae minato
EPISODE THIRTEEN by craig dilouie
REPRIEVE by james han mattson
MARY by nat cassidy
DEAD SILENCE by s.a. barnes

THE SALT GROWS HEAVY by cassandra khaw
don't care, i want romance
some of these feature crossover genres, like fantasy and horror.
VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE by isabel cañas
DAUGHTER OF THE MOON GODDESS by sue lynn tan
SEVEN DAYS IN JUNE by tia williams
HAPPY PLACE by emily henry
ONE DARK WINDOW by rachel gillig
i want QUEER romance
again, a mix of historical, fantasy, and contemporary crossover genres.
WE COULD BE SO GOOD by cat sebastian

SCYTHE by neil shusterman
WE HUNT THE FLAME by hafsah faizal
SIX OF CROWS by leigh bardugo
GEARBREAKERS by zoe hana mikuta
i'll read anything that's not straight or white
many books in the above categories fit this, but here's even more, across a variety of genres.
LAST NIGHT AT THE TELEGRAPH CLUB by malinda lo
BABEL by r.f. kuang
WHEN THE RECKONING COMES by latanya mcqueen
THE UNBROKEN by c.l. clark
IF YOU'LL HAVE ME (graphic novel) by eunnie
LEGEND OF THE WHITE SNAKE by sher lee
THIS IS HOW YOU LOSE THE TIME WAR by amal el-mohtar and max gladstone
SHE WHO BECAME THE SUN by shelley parker-chan
"all ya books suck"
like any other genre or book age group, there are duds and there are standouts. ya is not special in this regard. try some of these!
DIVINE RIVALS by rebecca ross
STRIKE THE ZITHER by joan he
THE RED PALACE by june hur
A STUDY IN DROWNING by ava reid
EMPIRE OF SAND by tasha suri
LEGENDBORN by tracy deonn
i check out and read a lot of these books for free via my local library by using the libby app (you can even add your friends' library cards to gain access to libraries in places you don't live). when i'm feeling like reading via audiobook, i use libro fm!
look, no one HAS TO read diversely. no one is going to be reverse fahrenheit 451'd and locked in a room with no fanfic and only books and not let out until they work their way through the entire literary canon. but reading, and reading widely, and reading diversely, is what teaches people to form their own opinions and question the things they are told. it's why they hang up stuff like "READ READ READ!!" in grade school classrooms.
we live under systems that increasingly benefit from going unquestioned. no, of course reading ASSASSIN'S APPRENTICE by robin hobb is not going to dismantle these systems tomorrow, nor probably even in our lifetimes. but doing it will help set up a world capable of doing it in the future. and until further notice, we are all part of this wretched world. might as well read a good story while we're here.
anyway, i'm reading THE WEST PASSAGE by jared pechaček and the new cmq book this week.

I can't find the video I saw it in, but the truest thing I ever heard in my life is that the Cybertruck is to Tesla what Airpods are to Apple.
The gist is that they are both tech companies that pushed themselves ahead as 'the best' producers of a new type of a firmly established product (cars and phones) and as other brands caught up with their tech they became more designer brands than about actual utility.
You put in your Airpods and go strolling about every peasant on the street knows you can afford a bunch of Apple products and just throw them away when they break to het new ones because, as we all know, repairing them on your own is nearly impossible and getting them repaired costs almost more than a new product. Even though the design is kinda dorky, and the sound quality is nothing to be amazed by, they're a visual signifier of wealth everybody who looks at your face can see.
Cybertruck is the same, except it's even lamer, and much more dangerous. It literally looks like a dumpster. Everybody on the road knows you have money, but they also know to give you a very wide berth so they're not caught in the implosion when you crash. They've become not just the signifier of wealth but also everything WRONG with having too much money. Which is arguably the POINT because Elon Musk is basically the shining example of the old adage 'money can't buy you happiness'.
So instead of being the cutting edge of technology they were intended to be, both the Cybertruck and the Airpods are just about bragging rights, and signalling to the world you're probably an obnoxious ass who only has money going for them.

omg are the airpod maxes super uncomfy?? i was debating getting them as well. ARE THEY NOT WORTH IT?? 🥺🥺
surprisingly enough, they are comfortable!! (granted ive only worn them for like a max of two hours straight from when i tested them out earlier today) the sound quality isn’t bad either but im also like partially deaf + i would dare to say that the sound quality is similar to my good ol’ reliable first generation regular airpods. i will say the noise cancellation feature is soooo good!!!! however, for the full price (and even w the sale price i got it for which was (with tax) roughly $423) i would just save your money!!!! i have these old pair of wired headphones (beats by dre) and i honestly would say that those are v nice and get the job done well. the maxes were bought (by me) purely for the aesthetic at this point HAHA

I have finally conceded that gremlins have eaten my kindle voyage and I do, in fact, need to replace it. It's been more than year of waiting for it to "turn up" interspersed with frantic episodes of looking. It's not happening! It's in the negaverse now.
WHY IS THE EREADER MARKET SO FUCKING TERRIBLE??? ALL I WANT IS A REASONABLY PRICED SMALL-ISH EREADER WITH DEDICATED PAGE TURN BUTTONS.
That's all! I don't need to be able to write on it! I don't need it to play videos! I don't need a big screen! I don't want to pay $200+ dollars. I just want to be able to read long fanfic on an e-ink screen again.

moray eel rambles part 732564
there were some things i didn't talk about in my last post about morays like teeth differences, hunting team-ups, their predators, etc. i also included a new genus of moray eel (muraena) because they're so pretty!
Tumblr media
the muraena argus is a beautiful eel!!
Tumblr media
and so is the jewel moray eel!!
anyways, its tooth time.
some moray eels have blunt teeth for crustacean eating as opposed to sharper teeth for fish eating. it just depends on what they specialize in! you can usually tell by the differences in their snout length (short snouts for blunt teeth, long snouts for sharper teeth.)
it took me forever to find a picture of the snowflake moray opening its mouth, and while there definitely were pictures of the mouth opened wider, you can see the teeth better on the bottom jaw in this one.
Tumblr media
see the difference between this...
Tumblr media
and this?
this is a pattern that i've noticed over my months of researching morays which i thought was pretty interesting.
morays are mostly ambush hunters, hiding under rocks and lunging at prey. however, there are exceptions, like the giant moray eel which will team up with groupers to hunt. Since moray eels hunt in reefs and groupers hunt in the open water, the prey will be scared by one fish and eaten by the other. (for example, if the moray is hunting in the coral reefs and a fish swims away from the moray, it's likely that the grouper will get it and vise versa.) considering groupers eat pretty much the same things as morays (with a diet consisting of fish, shrimp, crustaceans, and octopus) it's no surprise that they do this.
most moray eels are nocturnal hunters, but the white mouth moray can be seen patrolling coral reefs in the daytime!! this wasn't something i'd seen until i watched a short documentary about morays in hawaii (link here!! the segment on the white mouth moray begins at 6:12 if you're interested C:)
their predators are sharks, barracudas, and sea snakes, which funnily enough is what floyd calls jamil so i don't know what he's implying but here we are! (and people talking about floyd wanting to eat us,,, does floyd think jamil wants to eat him? /j) but uh...when i was doing research on this i did find a video of a sea snake eating a moray whole so if you want to watch that it's here?
some morays can survive in freshwater, but they grow & survive better in brackish or marine conditions. the whole "freshwater" eel thing, according to the research i've done, is a myth and if you're going to keep an eel as a pet you should make sure you have the right tank conditions. the most commonly mischaracterized eel is the indian mud moray eel, or “freshwater” eel. it can survive in freshwater, but it does so much better in brackish conditions.
the larvae of the ribbon eel is transparent.
