First and foremost, it seems the anon raised quite the inquiry. More than half of you all were in the same boat as them. It seems some of our lovely fellow fandom enjoyers came up with the answer...

We are Maribatters!

Not to be confused Maribratters, even though most of us are. However, another user suggested a spiff on the line Marinette uses when she first receives Tikki. "Bugbats". Arguably, that is the cutest idea of a name. Why don't we use both?

There is something else that needs to be addressed from this poll...

"Even if we do have one, does it really matter?"

This was an option included in the poll for a couple reasons.

Not everyone is going care for having an 'official' name for the fandom. That is fair. However, there are those who might.

This fandom was created with a spontaneous, miraculous idea that one person had. It has grown by the effort these batty bugs who discovered it put into the space.

Remember: A fandom is created by one person's watered idea but that does not mean those who have flourished from it's bloom are the flowers to pick in the meadow. There are some gems in the shade who offer beauty to the ecosystem that is the fandom.

Malachite Milestones Wave 2

Starting off, Thank you all for your amazing suggestions!

We had a total of 11 responses and 47 unique ships. These split into 8 Garnet, 25 Rhodonite, and 14 Alexandrite. Another amazing stat is that one ship was suggested so many times (15) that it was promoted to Garnet. While it the ship seems to have plenty of Maribatters wanting it, it is still going through the voting process to be fair. Those in the discord know what ship that is. The next step is voting on the ships that Maribatters want to see as the Active Roster. The link will be featured below.

Hi, my friend is asking why there are so many maribat fics, and especially with DamiMari.

Maybe you know about the history of these crossovers in Batman Fandom?

(Fellow Maribat fans, feel free to add your own commentary or correct any of my mistakes.)

So @/ozmav created the Damian x Marinette ship in 2018, I think? It was just a fun little crossover that blew up and became really popular. I was not around either of those fandoms at the time, so I'm not sure about all the details.

Daminette was the first Maribat ship created, so it was around the longest, and thus accumulated the most works.

Eventually, the other Bat Boys got their own ship, and now the Maribat (or now, more technically, DCxMLB) fandom has so many more ships and crossovers -not necessarily between the Bat/MLB main characters.

Some rarepair ships (any DCxMLB ship not between one of the four main Bat Boys and Marinette) include Konette (Conner Kent/Superboy and Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug) and Timdrien (Tim Drake/Red Robin and Adrien Agreste/Chat Noir), to name a couple.

The Maribat fandom also crosses over with multiple fandoms, like DPxDCxMLB or MCUxDCxMLB.

Some pure MLB and DC stans definitely dislike Maribatters, especially during the beginning of the fandom, when the tags for both fandoms were cluttered with DCxMLB content. Now that it's grown so much and has its own tags, I think the hate has calmed down somewhat. (Although, I prefer to keep out of fandom drama, so I may simply have missed the hateful discourse ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.)

Overall, the Maribat fandom has really grown from a crack ship to its own large, well-populated community. There are tags on Ao3 and many discord servers, which runs events such as "Jasonette July" and "Maribat? Get In! [a server] Civil War".

On a personal note:

As to my thoughts on the ships themselves, my favorites are Daminette (Damian Wayne/Robin and Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug) and Jasonette (Jason Todd/Red Hood and Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug). It's always fascinating to rotate a character or ship in your head like a rotisserie chicken, considering their Canon and Fanon traits and then exploring them in whatever medium you choose (my medium of choice is writing fanfiction).

For Daminette, the ship you specifically asked about, I am drawn to it because I find the differences between the couple adorable. I personally have a fondness for the Grumpy x Sunshine trope, a Tsundere male lead, and relationship/character growth. (Of course, sometimes it's nice just to read a cute 500 word drabble with no plot, no specific dynamics, and no development, where the couple is just cute and happy.)

I think that is one of the beauties of Maribat. With so many various ships and characters to choose from, there's something for everyone, and we can all bond over belonging to the same fandom(s). Some of us have joined from the MLB side, some from the DC side, some just got dragged in by a friend and have no knowledge of either fandom, and that's okay! With so much to explore in both fandoms, there is constantly new content* being made with love (and tears. And laughter, both evil and joyful. And hornin-).

I've made some of my best friends through this fandom, and I'm proud to be a part of it.

Here is the question being asked:

Do you think the Maribat fandom has any problems?

That Maribatter, or least it can be reasonably assumed the anon is someone within the fandom, is asking a hard question. The question itself is not hard nor is the answer. Rather they are both important but the lack of responses from members is what makes it hard.

This is a question that has been asked many times to countless creator Bugbats yet no one ever answers it, do they? Why exactly is that? Let's dive in a little...

Maribat is a fandom. 'Seriously? That's your deep dive?' Hold your Kaalki please.

Every fandom does indeed have their problems and yes, people tend to be the roots of it. People grew the fandom to the point where it stands currently. They also are so deep rooted in, some at least, that they are willing to stay engrained to the nutrients keeping it alive while poisoning it because they feel less attached to the fandom but will not leave it. Instead, their negativity, no matter how miniscule, is feeding into the tree causing it to start to recede.

People are the roots of this everlasting Ash-Birch tree that was planted by one brave unknowing person. There are those out who are Maribatters that have fresh branches sprouting from this tree. Like a tree, there are branches that bend until they break, potentially taking others down alongside them.

Another important thing to not ignore is popularity. Yes, it needs to be spoken about since no one else wants to be the first to test the ice for cracks.

Now, popularity itself not inherently bad nor is good. Having a piece of artwork or a fic that happens to gain attention because the kwami beside the scenes pulled some algorithm strings is not reason enough to "oh, I can't like this creator anymore."

Calm down random reader. This does not mean go hate or unfollow every single Maribat person over X amount of kudos/followers/likes. This is to raise awareness and consider a few things.

Popularity does not equal Role Model: Just because someone has a lot of fics, likes, and/or posts, does not mean they are someone to look up to.

Popularity does not not equal Role Model: The above is not the only way a person can be popular. 'Popularity' can be someone who you see active on a discord server. Those people can be role models.

Someone who is not 'popular' does not mean they cannot be Role Model: Continuing on 2, there are people in this fandom that are amazing people and role models for positive forces that are needed.

Not Every Person Will Make a Good Role Model and Some People Should Not Be Role Models

As an outro to the question, Yes, the Maribat fandom does have its problems. These problems most likely will not go away soon or you Buggabats will surprise this fandom by addressing the problems now that there has been an actual set of answers given from different accounts.

Do you think the Maribat fandom has any problems?

Of course it does. All fandoms have their own issues. It’s to be expected really.

But that doesn’t automatically mean the fandom is “bad”.

There are bound to be toxic people in the fandom, that’s just life. But it be such a waste to only focus on them.

Rather, within our server, we like to focus on how to better the fandom and make it more inclusive, improve events, focus on small creators rather than give all the attention to big names, and give our members a voice.

So maybe the fandom does have problems, but we work to fix them and create a place that allows you to escape from them and fix them.
