The Princess Switch (2018, Mike Rohl)
18/12/2023
The Princess Switch is a 2018 Christmas-themed romantic comedy film directed by Mike Rohl, inspired by a screenplay by Robin Bernheim and Megan Metzger. The main actors of the film are Vanessa Hudgens and Sam Palladio.
The film was released on Netflix 16, 2018 exclusively on Netflix.
Having gone to the back of the pastry competition studios to try to remove stains from her apron, Stacy clashes with Lady Margaret of the kingdom of Montenaro, Duchess and future wife of Prince Edward of Belgravia.
The Duchess and Stacy are perfectly identical, probably thanks to a distant family bond that binds them and, at the request of the future princess, tired of the rigid etiquette that she is forced to follow and completely unaware of what it would be like to live a normal life, the two girls exchange identities for a couple of days, and then return to their respective lives.
In June 2018, it was announced that Vanessa Hudgens and Sam Palladio would star in the Netflix film The Princess Switch.
Most of the film was shot in Romania.
The sequel The Princess Switch: Switched Again was released in 2020 and in 2021 The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star.

Runaway Bride
Was inspired by @aellathedreamer‘s fan-fic, “Some Girls” and decided to do my own ‘what-if-scenario’, had Margaret and Edward gone through with the wedding (reluctantly), only for Margaret to get cold feet the last minute and deciding to bail, leaving Edward standing at the alter confused, but understanding as to why she did it.
This is just the first chapter of it. I’m still working on writing it and will most likely be making edits to this once it’s completed, but rest assured, it’s going to be an adventure. For Margaret especially. XD
Anyways, hope you enjoy this snippet of it!
And @aellathedreamer, this is for you! Your fan-fic was both emotional and awesome! 😁
Chapter 1
The sound of music filled Margaret’s ears as she stood firmly outside the wedding hall, eyes glued to the large wooden doors that sheltered her from the dozens of eyes awaiting her arrival, that including her husband-to-be, Prince Edward. After the truth was revealed to Edward, confessing of her switch with Stacy, the two begged his parents to call off the wedding, in which they refused. George was insistent they go through with the wedding, informing the two that it was their duty, while Caroline could only look away in shame. She could understand the duo’s plight, and while she was informed of the switch, she knew her husband was less than thrilled of the situation, and refused to let his son be married off to a commoner, let alone one from the states.
Edward had plighted to her mother, using any ounce of persuasion he could possibly muster.
“Please, Mother.” He gently begged. “You have to side with me on this!”
Caroline stayed silent, feeling her husband’s disapproving gaze towards her. She closed her eyes, not willing to see her son’s broken expression.
“This isn’t up for discussion, son. You both shall be married on Christmas Day, no exceptions.”
“But Stacy’s not just anyone! She brought out a side of me I didn’t know I had! She’s fun, organized, beautiful, and overall a good leader. I believe she would make for a fantastic ruler, if you just gave her a chance.”
His father shook his head. “I don’t know what’s come over you Edward, but I cannot let some random girl you recently met help rule our kingdom. She has no idea how the monarchy works, and has little to no experience with dealing with our people.”
Margaret decided to intervene. “Your Majesty, if you would please listen-“
“I’ve listened long enough.” The King remained firm. “And as for the little stunt you pulled, you should be grateful we’re being so lenient towards you. Do you have any idea the damage you and your supposed “doppelganger” caused?!” He asked indigently.
Margaret shrank a bit. “Well, I…I just-“
“I’m sure she’s well aware, Father.” Edward defended on her behalf, his tone rising just a tad. “Rest assured, we’ll be sure to apologize to everyone we deceived.”
“I deceived Edward.” The Duchess corrected. “Everyone, including you.”
“And us.” George corrected. “Which is why once the wedding is gone through, I expect you to make a public formal apology, is that understood?”
Margaret nodded obediently, her head hung low. “Yes, your Majesty.”
“Good. Now back onto the matter at hand.” He stared at them intently. “This wedding shall proceed, as it is the duty of both of you to unite our kingdoms. The King of Montenaro expects his niece to be wed, and we shall not disappoint him. The fate of this rests on you two.”
Edward wanted to argue more, he really did, but his fiancée placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, stopping him before doing so. “We understand, your Majesty.” She replied while looking towards Edward. “It’s our duty.” The prince noticed her eyes glossing over, the pained look she wore telling him they’re not going to win this. He clenched his fists, taking a deep breath, and looked back at his father.
“Fine.” Was all he could say before leaving the room, Margaret watching as he left.
Caroline finally turned towards the duchess, her own look not better.
“I’m truly sorry.” Her voice just barely above a whisper. “You know this is the right thing.”
Margaret nodded. “I know. Thank you…for at least hearing us out, your Majesty.” She gave a shaky bow before turning to leave as well.
To be honest, Caroline felt torn. She felt sympathy for her son, as well as Duchess Margaret, but in order to unite both Belgravia and Montenaro, the wedding must proceed. She turned towards George in a last attempt to pursue him.
“Dear, don’t you think you were a bit harsh?” She asked. “You saw how that girl was with him. She brought out the best in him! Perhaps if we gave this Stacy De Novo a chance, we-“
“Out of the question.” He raised a hand to stop her. “He hardly knows that girl. For all we know she could have been using him to inherit our fortune, and the last thing we need is a scandal on our hands.” George saw his wife deflate at that. Relaxing his features, he placed a hand atop hers. “Believe me, this is what’s best for both of them. The sooner they get on with it, the better it will be. He’ll eventually forget all about her and realize Margaret is a suitable partner for him. Just like how I thought the same thing about you.” He places a gentle kiss onto her knuckle, causing her to smile.
She sighed. “Perhaps you’re right, George.” The Queen coincided. “I only hope those two will recover. I can only imagine what they must be going through…”
With that, the following leads to where Margaret is now, standing outside the church doors with a sorrowful look upon her features. Her legs started to buckle from the heavy gown while her eyes struggled to see through the large veil on top of her head. Her breath hitched in her throat as she inevitably waited for her que to walk through those doors.
Donatelli suddenly came up behind her, making sure to do one last look-over before giving her away. “How are you feeling, your grace?” She asked, gently approaching her.
Margaret swallowed anxiously. “To be honest, I feel apprehensive about all of this.” She admitted. “This just…doesn’t feel right. Not anymore.” Her thoughts led her back the past few days, thinking of the wonderful moments she shared with Kevin Richards, and his daughter, Olivia. She missed the time they spent together, whether it be singing Christmas carols in Town Square, to having a snowball fight, even watching a movie together. Of course, she couldn’t forget her and Kevin’s first kiss, the way their lips melted together so perfectly, so effortlessly, as if they were meant to be together. She regretted the way she had ended things with him, to tell him to forget the kiss had even happened. She knew she couldn’t damage Stacy and Kevin’s friendship, but what they shared during those last few days were some of the greatest moments of her life, and she would never forget them.
Margaret formed a loving smile as she held a hand over her heart. “A part of me wishes Kevin was standing at the alter and not Edward.”
Donatelli formed a sad smile of her own. “You miss him, don’t you?”
She nodded. “More than anything. I know it seems crazy, but what we shared, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything like that before with anyone. Not even with Edward.” Her gaze dropped towards the floor. “Stacy belongs with Edward, not me. I just wish his parents could understand that.”
“I understand your grace, but there’s not much we can do on the matter. King George specifically explained the importance of this marriage.”
Margaret fought the urge to roll her eyes. “Is it really?” She asked half-sarcastically. “If Stacy were here, I’m sure she could convince them otherwise.” The duchess could hear the music on the other side growing louder as voices began to die down instantly. She felt her breathing grow faster as she tried not to faint from on-coming pressure.
She couldn’t do it. She knew she couldn’t. As much as she cared about duty, her freedom and happiness was something she cared the most. After experiencing what it was like a normal girl, not being tied down by duties or protocols. Being able to wear what she wanted, and overall, be herself. That was the life she wanted, and she’d give anything to live it again.
Her mind was made up. She wasn’t going to marry Edward, even if his parents disapproved of it.
Donatelli noticed Margaret’s hesitancy. Before she could ask what’s wrong, however, the duchess turned around, making a bee-line towards her dressing room without second thought. Perplexed, she followed behind her without missing a beat. “Lady Margaret?” She asked apprehensively. “The ceremony is supposed to start soon.”
Without looking back, Margaret responded. “I know.” She kept on moving. “But I can’t do this. This isn’t what’s right for me.” ‘Telli’s eyes widened as Margaret chucked her veil to the side, soon after kicking off her heels, allowing her to walk freely. “I’m not right to rule Belgravia. Edward needs a partner who knows how to take charge, and that person is Stacy.” Donatelli tried interjecting, but Margaret beat her to it. “You saw how she was, Donatelli. She did wonders for not only Edward, but for everyone else around her. Edward has changed because of her, and admittedly, she helped me change as well.”
Margaret finally stopped in her tracks, took a deep breath and continued. “You told me that love had nothing to do with duty, that I should follow my heart. Don’t you still believe it?”
Donatelli took in Margaret’s pleading look, her own turning sympathetic. “You know I do, Margaret.” Her lips curved into a smile. “And you’re sure this is what you want?”
The Duchess nodded. “More than anything. I just want to see Kevin again. Both him, and Olivia.”
She sighed. “Well, I suppose I can’t stop you.” She thought for a moment, weighing the risks of her whole plan, then continued. “If that’s the case, then I’m coming with you.”
Margaret blinked. “…You are?” She asked. “But what about the King and Queen? You already went behind their backs once because of me. If they know you’re in on this to, they could-“
‘Telli stopped her. “Don’t worry about me. It’s you I’m more concerned about. You’re still my responsibility after all, and I promised your mother I’d always look out for you. Besides, from what you told me about Mr. Richards, he seems more than worth it.”
Margaret felt tears welding at the thought of not losing her. “You…You’d sacrifice your position…for me?”
She gave a firm nod before Margaret threw her arms around her, touched by how dedicated she was.
“Thank you.” The younger woman whispered. “For everything. I don’t think I could ever imagine my life without you.”
The older woman smiled warmly, returning the gesture with as much love. “Mine either.”

Her whole family definitely has a complicated history.
Fiona’s parents basically neglected her from a young age causing her to grow up spoiled and a bit egotistical. Her father most likely abused Bianca, causing her to leave, and place Fiona in boarding school, just so she wouldn’t have to suffer with him as well (had she also taken her away her husband would’ve probably hurt both of them so she went with the safer option in order to protect her daughter).
The King of Montenaro died, and his son didn’t want to take the throne, so rather than inherit it Prince Howard decided to advocate and leave, putting all the responsibility onto Margaret into becoming the kingdom’s leader when she herself had already made plans with Kevin to live a normal life, thus straining and ruining their relationship for a while.
And of course, Margaret’s parents. Both of them passed a few years apart from one another during Margaret’s pre-teen years, leaving in their will (mainly from Duchess Anne) that Donatelli would become Margaret’s personal assistant as well as ‘Lady Of The House’. The Duke wasn’t exactly too fond of ‘Telli to begin with, being weary of her under-class background, but decided to overlook it for both his wife and daughter’s sake since both were quite fond of her.
In the end, the only person truly present in Margaret’s life (prior to Stacy, Olivia, and Kevin), was mainly Donatelli. She basically raised her since she was 5 years old, and had never once left her side since then (aside from when she went to college; ‘Telli had to stay and look after the estate as well as care for the staff). She had taught her everything she knew when it came to both royal and civilian life, and is basically like a second mother to her (she’s accidentally called her ‘mum’ on quite a few occasions XD).
the amount of times i have rewatched the entire princess switch trilogy the past two months is absolutely insane and now that december has kicked in and i have a valid reason to watch i fear it will raise even higher 😣🏃‍♀️💨

So now that we have evidence* that the Netflix Christmas Cinematic Universe (NCCU) is a thing, I desperately need to know if this means we're going to get the MCU treatment of 'each facet will get a trilogy and then crossover'??? Like, we already have 3 Christmas Prince movies, so all we need is 1 more Princess Switch and then 2 more Knight Before Christmas-es! Then we can have the doppelgangers possibly explained through the magic that we know exists (ie the witch, time travel, and Santa Claus (?)). Please Netflix....do it for me....
*Evidence:
1. Reference to Aldovia in AKBC
2. Two references to Belgravia in ACP3: RB; both verbal and a map depiction
3. King Richard and Queen Amber appear at Lady Margaret Delacourt's coronation as Queen of Montenaro in APS:SA

I wonder if after the events of "The Princess Switch", the general population of that region in Europe was like "I didnt know Queen Amelia of Genovia was the start of an American invasion, how many more are there???"
Like some cranky old man is just like "First King Richard of Aldovia, then Prince Edward in Belgravia, now Queen Margaret of Montenaro??? What is the appeal???"

In the Princess Switch, High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens takes the lead(s). And little did they know, they each fall in love with each other's beaus. Just enough fluff and romance for a warm Christmas you wish you had.

A Princesa e a Plebeia: Nova Aventura
Tumblr media

Netflix, 2020. 1h 36m.
When Duchess Margaret unexpectedly inherits the throne to Montenaro and hits a rough patch with Kevin, it's up to her double Stacy to save the day before a new lookalike, party girl Fiona foils their plans.
More doppelgänger trouble! Possibly even better than the first instalment in the series.
Top Selling points:
Doppelgängers
Vanessa Hudgens - THREE WHOLE TIMES
Love conquers all
Bad Accents
Flour Fight
Christmas decorations
Bonkers Plot
Do I recommend? YES. But probably only if you watched The Princess Switch.
Would I watch again? Let’s not pretend like I won’t.
Happy ending? Yup. In this one too. Surprise!
Did I cry? Kind of. I teared up a bit.

At that point hopefully things will get easier for them. 😅
Granted, Donatelli would be absolutely thrilled all the same at the prospect of caring for another child, but still.
As for Frank…he’s just waiting on his retirement. XD
A Chance Encounter: A Princess Switch AU
I’m having way too much fun with this so @kittylover776v here’s part 3
Later that morning, the calm of the royal estate was shattered when news of Edward’s late-night escapade—complete with a drunken stranger in tow—filtered through the palace grapevine. Gossip was an inevitable sport among the staff, and despite Edward’s best attempts to keep the incident discreet, it wasn’t long before the king and queen themselves caught wind of the story.
In the royal drawing room, Queen Caroline paced, her brows knitted in concern. “A young woman? From the streets? Brought into the estate?” she said, her voice rising with every word. “What was he thinking?”
King George, sitting in an armchair with a cup of tea, sighed heavily and pinched the bridge of his nose. “What he was thinking, my dear, is probably not much at all.” He looked over at the butler standing in the corner. “Frank, you were there. How bad is it?”
Frank, ever the picture of composure, adjusted his gloves. “Your Majesty, if I may say so, it’s… not as dramatic as the staff may have made it sound.”
The queen stopped pacing and gave him a sharp look. “Frank, I’ve heard that Edward snuck out again, brought home a drunken woman, and then had her escorted into the palace without notifying anyone. How is that not dramatic?”
Frank tilted his head thoughtfully. “Well, when you put it like that…”
The king groaned and sank further into his chair, muttering, “I told you this boy was trouble the moment he learned to climb out of his nursery window.”
The queen shot him a glare. “George, this isn’t the time.”
“Isn’t it?” the king replied, exasperated. “He’s a grown man now, Caroline. A grown man who sneaks out of the palace at night, picks up strangers, and brings them here. This isn’t a mischievous prince moment—this is a full royal scandal waiting to happen!”
“It’s not a scandal yet,” Frank interjected helpfully, though with a barely-hidden smirk. “As far as I know, the young lady has no memory of how she got here or who His Highness really is. So unless someone decides to leak the story to the press…” He trailed off meaningfully.
The queen put a hand to her chest, looking distressed. “Leak it to the press? That would be disastrous! We’re only weeks away from Edward’s engagement announcement!”
“Ah yes, the engagement he’s thrilled about,” Frank said dryly.
The king turned a sharp eye to him. “Frank, your sarcasm isn’t helping.”
“I’m just saying,” Frank said, feigning innocence. “Perhaps His Highness wouldn’t sneak out and bring home random women if he felt a bit more… liberated in his choices.”
“Frank,” the queen warned, her tone icy.
At that moment, the door creaked open, and Edward stepped in, looking far too casual for someone about to face the wrath of his parents. He had traded his usual regal attire for something simpler, though his posture was as princely as ever.
“You wanted to see me?” he asked, though the way his lips quirked upward suggested he already knew what this was about.
Queen Caroline turned on him, her voice a mixture of concern and scolding. “Edward! What on earth were you thinking, sneaking out without a chaperone? And bringing… bringing her here? Do you realize how dangerous that was? For her and for you?”
Edward held up his hands in mock surrender. “Alright, before we all start panicking, can I just say I had good intentions?”
“Good intentions?” King George repeated, raising an eyebrow. “This should be rich.”
“She was lost, and clearly not in any condition to find her way back to her cabin,” Edward explained. “I couldn’t just leave her wandering the streets. What kind of future king would I be if I ignored someone in need?”
The queen softened slightly but still frowned. “Edward, while I admire your compassion, there are protocols for these kinds of things. You should have alerted the palace guards or brought her to a local inn.”
Edward rubbed the back of his neck, looking sheepish. “To be honest, she was so out of it I wasn’t sure she’d even make it through the door of an inn. And…” He glanced sideways at Frank, who was watching the exchange like it was a riveting play. “Frank didn’t exactly suggest any alternatives.”
Frank raised a brow. “Oh no, don’t you drag me into this. I only helped sneak her in because you insisted it was the right thing to do. I was merely following orders.”
The king groaned again, setting his tea aside. “Edward, for the love of Belgravia, do you ever think things through?”
“Sometimes,” Edward said with a small shrug.
“That is not the answer we were looking for,” the queen said, clearly exasperated.
There was a long pause before Edward, realizing the gravity of the situation, finally straightened. “Alright. I admit it wasn’t the most… conventional decision. But she’s fine. She’ll leave as soon as she’s feeling better, and no one will even know she was here.”
The queen sighed, shaking her head. “Edward, you’ve put us all in a very precarious position. I don’t even want to think about what would happen if someone found out about this.”
King George, still pinching the bridge of his nose, muttered, “Well, if nothing else, it’ll make for an entertaining chapter in the family memoirs.”
Frank leaned in slightly. “I can already see the headline: ‘Mischievous Prince Sneaks Drunken Woman into Royal Estate.’”
The queen shot him a sharp glare. “Frank.”
“I’m just preparing for the inevitable,” Frank said with a shrug.
Edward, however, was unfazed. “Look, I’ll take responsibility for everything. Just… trust me when I say this isn’t going to turn into some grand disaster.”
The queen sighed again but nodded reluctantly. “Very well. But if even a whisper of this incident gets out, Edward, it will be your neck on the line.”
“Understood,” Edward said, though there was a flicker of mischief in his eyes that made it clear he wasn’t entirely regretful.
As the prince turned to leave, Frank leaned toward King George and whispered loud enough for everyone to hear, “You know, for a future king, he’s remarkably good at making headlines.”
The king groaned. “Don’t remind me.”
And with that, the incident was, for now, swept under the royal rug—though the palace staff, particularly Frank, would certainly not let Edward forget it anytime soon.

The Princess Switch 4
Hear me out, The Princess Switch 4: War of The Clones.
A zombie plague has swept over the land of Montenaro at Christmastime and the borders have been locked down. Stacy is visiting Margaret with Edward, Kevin, and Olivia in tow, and, of course, Fiona is on lockdown, leaving our favorite crew trapped in what was once a winter wonderland but has now become a dystopian wasteland. The crew try to think of a plan from the comfort of the castle, but it is there on their first night with the undead circling outside like predators circling prey that Mrs. Donatelli reveals to them that Stacy, Margaret and Fiona are not just relatives; They are special women with a special purpose.
Stacy, Margaret and Fiona are only three of an army of clones known as the Christmas Angels who were created with the specific intent of saving Christmas. Enhanced strength and heightened senses are all written into their DNA. Even better, there’s more of them living under the castle in Montenaro simply waiting for Queen Margaret to give the order for their activation.
In a time like this, how could Margaret not activate the clones? The army, with the trio as their leaders, sweeps out over the land, slaughtering zombies like a horde of bad-ass motherfuckers. With the zombies eradicated, the surviving citizens of Montenaro celebrate Christmas and mourn the lost souls that were taken by the undead. It’s a bittersweet Christmas, but everyone is glad to be alive, and Stacy, Margaret and Fiona are hailed as true heroes. The dozens and dozens of Christmas Angels set out to achieve their own happy endings and live their lives as independent citizens of Montenaro.

Runaway Bride
Third chapter of ‘Runaway Bride’ is out! Wanted to get this out sooner but had a bit of trouble deciding what direction to take it. Writing multi-chapter fics can be a bit of a struggle for me compared to one-shot stories, but I’m definitely working on getting the hang of it.
Wanted to thank everyone including @aellathedreamer who has helped inspire me when it comes to this teeny tiny fandom. If it wasn’t for your support I probably wouldn’t be writing this.
I’m hoping to get this out on ‘Archive of our Own’, I’m just waiting to get approved for an account. Websites confuse me sometimes. 😅
Anyways, hope you all enjoy and have a Happy New Year! Wish everyone the best for 2024! 🎉🎊😁
Chapter 3
The silence was almost deafening as Margaret sat in one of Belgravia’s palace vehicles, the only thing audible being the sound of Christmas music playing on the radio along with the slow rhythm of her breaths. She watched the outside world turn to grey as large clouds started to gather above her, blocking any visible sunlight from shining through.
The past few hours felt like a blur as the weight of her decision started to dawn upon her. Not only did she walk out on her wedding day, an event that would unite both Belgravia and Montenaro as trusted allies, she also broke the trust her ex-fiancée’s family had in her and her own kingdom. She could only imagine what Edward’s parents must be thinking right now. King George was probably furious, as he should be, for he had insisted immensely that the ceremony must proceed, and to make matters worse she had also agreed with him, making her seem hypocritical. His wife Queen Caroline was most likely disappointed, but could also understand why she did it. The look she had given both her and Edward before their wedding showed she had some remorse over the whole thing, but couldn’t do much due to her husband’s iron fist.
And Edwardwell, she assumed he’d probably be relieved, if not confused about the situation. Margaret knew his heart belonged to Stacy, that he made clear. She always knew Edward deserved better. Stacy seemed like the perfect fit for him, even if he had no clue as to what she truly looked like, he still fell in love with her. She only wished she had introduced them sooner the second they switched back. At least then he would have some closure.
A small bump in the road shook Margaret from her musings. Her gaze traveled to the side-view mirror as Belgravia’s palace began to fade with distance. There was no turning back now. If she wanted this plan to work, she had to think positive.
Donatelli noticed Margaret’s worried expression as she stole a glance at the duchess.
“We should be reaching the airport soon, your grace.” She said behind the wheel, breaking the silence between them. “So long as traffic won’t be an issue we’ll have no problem getting there on time.” Normally they would have a driver escort them, but because they were on the down-low, as well as leaving the kingdom, it was best to leave as little traces as possible.
The duchess smiled at her. “Thank you.” She replied thankfully. “Do you think Edward would notice one of his cars missing?”
“I’m sure they could easily replace another vehicle if they wanted to. It’s Frank I’m more worried about noticing.” She muttered the last bit in dismay. “That man has been on to me since the beginning of all this. Should he find out he’ll probably have my head.”
Margaret hummed as her thumb smoothed over the small locket Kevin had given her as a present. It was technically supposed to be for Stacy, but because she was disguised he couldn’t tell the difference. Her eyes locked onto the photograph inside, taking in the scene with a warm smile. The three stood in front of Santa Claus, each giving their own smiles. Margaret felt warmth at the happy image, the memory replaying in her mind over and over again, remembering every detail of it.
They looked so happy together, as if they were a family. She remembered Olivia telling Santa she had wanted a new mom for Christmas (a statement that caused Kevin to choke on his coffee) and insisted the two of them join her in the photo.
The duchess then looked at herself, her smile waning slightly. Even if it was her standing there, the image she saw looked like Stacy, the woman Kevin actually cared about, someone he had known for years. Margaret knew she wasn’t her, and could never be her, but it still stung knowing deep down despite the good times they shared during those vast few days, it wasn’t real. He’ll never know the true person he grew close with during that time.
And worst of all…she’ll most likely never see him again, a fact that made her eyes start to water.
Donatelli could hear Margaret’s breath hitch as she gave a quick look at her. Her head was down facing her lap, still fixed on the locket. Her eyes seemed to glaze over as she looked on the verge of tears. Margaret had told her what had happened prior between her and the male baker, and could only imagine the dilemma she must be going through.
“You miss him, don’t you?” ‘Telli asked gently, breaking the tension that had surfaced during the car ride.
Margaret lifted her head up at the question. She looked at her assistant, attempting to wipe away any trace of tears that might have surfaced.
“Is it that obvious?” She sniffed, giving a nervous smile.
“From what I can tell, yes.” The woman replied. “I know this must be difficult for you, but it’s important to note that he along Ms. De Novo were simply visiting. They weren’t planning on staying.”
“Believe me, I know.” She admitted after a few moments. “It’s just…out of all the men I’ve met in my life, I’ve never known anyone like him. He’s sweet, generous, and very charming. Not to mention spontaneous.” The duchess grinned. “He showed me a life I always wanted. I only wish I got to spend more time with him. Olivia too, for that matter.” She started to deflate a bit. “Perhaps I could’ve told him the truth. About everything. He at least deserved that much, right?”
‘Telli was about to respond, when the Christmas music playing on the radio ended, followed by a news report that caused the duo to remain silent.
‘We interrupt your current program to bring some important news. Bride-to-be, Duchess Margaret Delacourt, future princess of Belgravia, and fiancé of Prince Edward has suddenly disappeared, following her ceremony, according to attendees of the royal wedding. A warrant has been sent out to by the king to search the palace, as well and the whole kingdom for the missing monarch. If anyone has any indications of her whereabouts, please do not hesitate to call-‘
Immediate silence stretched through the vehicle as Donatelli flipped off the radio, both women wearing blank-like expressions as they looked at one another in concern. It seemed King George wasted no time putting out a search for his son’s missing fiancé, which meant it was only a matter of time until they were found. Donatelli pulled the car over as they thought upon their new predicament.
“How much do you want to bet they’ve already got guards at the airport out looking for us?” The duchess asked.
“From my experience, I say a pretty high chance.” ‘Telli replied. “If news of this spreads fast it could mean trouble should we try and blend in. I don’t suppose you have a ‘plan B’ in mind, your grace?”
Margaret pondered for a moment, trying to think of another solution. Belgravia’s airport would most likely be swarming with guards, so that was definitely off the table. They could try and lay low in a near-by motel, but even still should anyone with access to recent news be aware of their absence, it could mean they would be recognized on the spot and be reported immediately. Of course, she could tell them to be discreet about it, but she wouldn’t want them to lie to royalty on her behalf, especially to the King.
Montenoro was also not an option since King Dennis was probably well-aware of her grand escape at this point, and was probably expecting her to run back home. She hated lying to her uncle, considering he had done so much for her over the years along with her other uncle, Lord Perceval, but knew she couldn’t go back without a ring on her finger, so it was best to avoid them as well.
Of course, there was one place she had in mind, but even still it was risky, and she could never know how long it would be before anyone connected the dots of her whereabouts. Still, the thought of visiting there made her smile. Stacy had told her many fond stories of the place, and she would be lying if the thought of visiting hadn’t crossed her mind as of late, especially when she was seconds from waltzing down the isle.
It was decided. It’s the only choice left that they had, and she only hoped they could pull it off.
With a determined look, Margaret faced ‘Telli again in full confidence, already having a plan in mind.
“We’ll have use a different airport. If we leave straight for Lavania, we could take a private jet there and avoid any future complications. I doubt the people there had been informed yet, since I’m guessing they want to keep this discreet for the moment, so it shouldn’t be so difficult. From there we can decide our next move.”
Donatelli gave a proud smile at her declaration, giving a nod in response. Starting the car again, she shifted into drive and continued on, making a bee-line for Lavania before it got too dark. Luckily, the drive would take a few hours at most, so at least they would be far enough to avoid any search party.
As soon as they reached the boarder for Lavania, they felt a wave of calm wash through them at the relief of not being potentially followed. The sun was beginning to set above the horizon, the dark clouds long-gone and giving a sense of peace as they continued to drive through the small town.
As soon as the airport came into view, Donatelli pulled into the reserved parking area, an attendant who worked there immediately coming to their aid. He gave a small bow before helping them with their luggage.
“We’d like to reserve a private jet please. If it’s alright, we’d like to keep it discreet.”
The attendant gave a nod of understanding, immediately setting to work and informing a few other employees of her request.
As they made it through a private hall that led to one of the jets, Donatelli couldn’t help but express her concern as she addressed the duchess.
“Where exactly are we heading to, your grace?” Her voice was low as to keep the conversation between them. “You hadn’t exactly filled me in on that part.”
Margaret felt a flutter fill her stomach as she had the perfect location in mind. She looked up at her and gave a wide smile, her eyes twinkling with excitement.
“Chicago. We’re going to Chicago.”

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate and Happy Cozy Day Off to those who don’t!  It’s time for another addition of...
The Worst Movie on Netflix Right Now™ Christmas Edition!
Today I’m going to review a sequel... The Princess Switch: Switched Again
Tumblr media
*dreamy sigh*
Alright loyal readers, I gotta be real with you.  I liked this movie.  I hate that I liked it.  But I fucking liked it.  Like... I kept thinking the whole time, this is a campy blast!  Which was a pretty uncomfortable feeling.  Especially considering how much I fucking hated the original, The Princess Switch.  Like... I wanted this movie to be longer.  WTF!?  So after much internal confusion, here we go.
For a refresher, here are some of the key complaints from my review of the first movie:
Fake soundstage scenery
Cheap costumes
Terrible writing (duh)
Bad acting/accents (duh, again)
No actual baking (despite a baking competition subplot)
But here’s the thing -- the majority of these problems are kinda solved in this new movie.  So what the fuck happened between that movie and this one?  They got a budget!?
Let’s walk through it.  The premise of this new movie is now Princess Stacy (the Chicago baker) who is married to Prince Edward is going to Montenaro to provide support to Duchess Margaret in the days leading up to her coronation as queen.  In the last movie, Stacy and Margaret had switched places, leading to Stacy’s romance with Prince Edward and Margaret’s romance with Stacy’s best friend and fellow baker Kevin.  Woof, that’s a lot.  Here’s a visual to help out.
Tumblr media
I color coded it.  And added little icons.  I’m helpful like that.
Anyhow.  In the first movie, Stacy and Margaret switch places for some reason that I can’t fucking remember, and they wind up falling in love with the different men in their lives.
By the times this movie starts, Stacy and Edward are married, and Margaret and Kevin have broken up for reasons neither can really articulate.  Stacy is convinced that if Kevin and Margaret just had some time alone together, they could work it out.  So Stacy convinces Margaret to -- you guessed it -- SWAP AGAIN!  Only this time, there’s a THIRD lookalike in the mix: Margaret’s cousin Fiona, a rival to her throne!  HIJINKS ENSUE!
Tumblr media
There’s honestly no point in getting into the particular hijinks.  Instead, let me just point out all the ways this movie improves on the last one.
First of all, production values.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have left the soundstage!
Tumblr media
WE GOT THE REAL SNOW BONUS, BABY!
There’s like a real palace and everything.  If they didn’t shoot this on location at a real manor home, I’ll eat my hat. (I’m not looking it up though cause I’m feeling fucking lazy today).
The costumes have really seen a nice upward bump too.  Actors are wearing real wool coats that all look brand new (in a good rich-people sort of way).  No more unlined wannabe Chanel suits, no more glue-gunned detailing (or at least if there was, I couldn’t tell).  I felt like someone read my post about the first movie and was like “Okay, let’s fix this!”
*dreamy sigh*
The writing is still super flimsy, duh, but at least none of these characters are being dismissive and unkind to each other when we’re supposed to like them.
But we can’t talk about this movie without talking about Vanessa Hudgens.  Like, dude.  I swear, in the first one she was just phoning in the whole thing.  But maybe being in an actual castle helped her turn up the juice on her performance or something.  Maybe she started to believe the fantasy.  I don’t fucking know.  But she kinda sells her performance this time --- which says a lot given that she is playing three roles with three different accents, two of which are completely fucking absurd.
But nothing can really top her performance of Fiona, the obviously evil cousin Fiona.  She is absolutely camping it up and it’s kinda fun to watch her.  She is ridiculous, the character is ridiculous, and I loved every second of it.
MORE FIONA PLEASE!
Tumblr media
Let me be clear here.  She’s not good.  This movie is not good.  But it’s so much better than the first one, I was pleasantly surprised.
So what’s wrong with it?
First of all, the conflict is resolved way too quickly and too easily.  It takes a long time for the plot to really kick off, and then it unwinds super quickly.  More than a third of this movie goes by before the switch even happens.  LAME. They could have done a lot more with this shit.  Like, come on!  If you’re going to go campy, LET’S GO CAMPY!
Also, there are couple of misplaced tropes here --- this is not the kind of movie where I want to see an airport wedding.  If you’re going to do a fantasy romance with royalty, then the clothes and the elaborate wedding are a part of that.  WHERE IS MY BIG FUCKING ROYAL WEDDING DRESS!?!?  Fucking amateur hour around here.
Last, there’s no baking.  Which is not something I really cared about, but my watching companion couldn’t help pointing it out.  If baking was Stacy’s thing in the first movie, it’s a little sad that she’s lost it now that she’s officially a princess.
IN CONCLUSION
In the Netflix Christmas movie universe, this movie is pretty far down on the quality list.  Pretty much all of the Christmas Prince movies are still better than this one.  But this one does a better job of following that format.  And Vanessa Hudgens looks like she’s auditioning for something, and she’s doing a good job of it.
This is not The Crown, my bitches.
But it’s a hell of a lot more fun.
