I haven't drawn in a few weeks so these are old and were supposed to have more art to accompany them but I'm so tired LOL šŸ˜ Anyhow I thought it was time I finally made a Strawberry Shortcake oc, his name is King Cake (Jr.) based on the version of the cake of the same name also sometimes referred to as a the Three Kings Cake typically made and eaten during Mardi Gras. (Though it's also eaten during other celebrations throughout the world as well.) This definitely isn't his final design but I just wanted something down on paper to go forward from. The first art is based more on the 2003 style of SS while the second is based on Berry In The Big City. He's actually part of Angel Cake's family, in the 2003 continuity they would be cousins. While in bitbc I think they'd be siblings... I have a bitbc design for Angel sketched out I just haven't revisited it yet, I hope to soon ^_^ I really hope to make some more characters as well, probably based on some desserts I grew up eating like jello salad, pound cake, luau salad ect ect

Carnival and "Mardi-Gras". [French Folks Traditions] part 2 : Masks and disguises.
If they are rudimentary, they generally symbolize the abolition of social and sexual barriers, but also animal and human. Men dressed as women (and vice versa), paper masks, widespread accoutrements, blackening of the face or even part of the body with shoe polish or charcoal (a well-known Celtic tradition), animal adornments (such as animal skins, horn crowns), are common.
In the Vallespir valley (Pyrenees) for example, the bear is honored in a dramatization that depicts its hunt while it tries to capture a woman.

[schembartlƤufer-nuremberg-facsimile-published-in-1897]
The Cavalcades : Rabelais (in his Quart Livre) speaks of a mannequin named "MĆ¢che-croutte" ~ "Chew-the-Crust" ~ who was paraded in Lyon. This (popular) dragon was a "monstrous, ridiculous, hideous and terrible effigy in the eyes of small children : it had eyes larger than its belly, a head larger than the rest of its body, with large and horrific, very serrated jaws [...] which are regularly snapped in a terrifying way."
A few centuries later (18th century) MĆ¢che-Croute, who no longer appears in the Carnival, becomes a bogeyman used to scare children.

IWTV S2 Ep2 Musings - Louis' Alimony Check from Lestat (Tentative Timeline series)
Back when I was making my S2 Timeline, one dead end that I couldn't definitively follow was WHEN did Lestat write that letter to Louis? šŸ¤” According to Roget, the last time he heard from Lestat was in 1940, to plan the party for Mardi Gras. So I assume Lestat wrote the letter to Louis in early 1940/late 1939, for several reasons.
Tumblr media
Something that make me pause was THE MONEY:
Tumblr media
Cuz that's based on REAL money:
Tumblr media
I can't tell exactly how many banknotes were in that box, but the franc was Strugglingā„¢ esp. in Post-War France "You want francs in pockets? These people are broke!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cowan, Helen I. ā€œFrance: Wage Trends and Wage Policies, 1938-47.ā€ Monthly Labor Review 65, no. 2 (1947): 149ā€“57. http://www.jstor.org/stable/41831305.
In 1945, approx. 120 francs = 85 cents. Meaning 1000 francs was barely scraping 100 USD, oof.
Tumblr media
(By Oct. 1945, the average hourly wage was 34.7 francs, so if my math is right (unlikely šŸ˜…) that's like 24 cents--$4 in 2024.)
BUT! In America, $100 in 1945 would've been worth $1742 in 2024.
Now, if I SQUINT, I THINK the larger papers under the 1000 note(s) is more money?
Tumblr media
Specifically, the 10,000 franc banknote:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
French francs tended to go up in size with their value, so the 1000 note was 172x95mm, and the 10k note was 221x120mm (the largest note). So if there's at least 2 of those notes in the box going by the screencaps we got in 2x2, then I ASSUME Lestat left Louis at least 20k+ francs (approx $14k, or $244,680 in 2024 šŸ¤‘).
BUT! If I understand money correctly (doubtful šŸ˜…), Lestat would've been giving Louis MORE money in American dollars, esp. if he put wired the money BEFORE THE WAR (Sept 1939 - Sept 1945). It was actually depreciating in value as it sat in Roget's office during the war, oof. (The franc never really recovered; it went obsolete when France eventually switched to the New Franc in 1959, and then the Euro in 1999/2002.)
Cuz here's the thing: Did Roget update/convert that cash? Cuz the notes in that box was recent.
Tumblr media
That's the 1000 Francs banknote issued from 1944-1946, which, as my timeline pointed out, was the period when Charles De Gaulle was in charge of the GPRF (June 1944 - Jan 1946); "De Gaulle's Paris had me etherized!," meaning Louis & Claudia had arrived in Paris BEFORE January 1946, before those banknotes went defunct.
TL;DR: So can we assume that Lestat wrote the letter and sent Roget the money for Louis pre-September 1939?
Meaning: before WWII & France's economy tanked (so back when the money would've been worth more in France)? Then Roget updated the cash with current notes when De Gaulle took over in 1944? Cuz the French banknotes PRE-War looked way different from what's in that box:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A horrifying thought....
Now...say it ain't so, Louis, but did he LEAVE THE MONEY? šŸ’€
When Louis & Claudia moved to Paris, they pickpocketed enough to pass as "moneyed Americans;" just meaning: they could afford the overpriced black market food everyone else was rationing (but which Louis was just using as bait for the pigeons he'd eat instead).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cuz full-sized baguettes were WAY above the size of bread rations in post-war Paris:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But their flat was a dump compared to Rue Royale; without even separate bedrooms for him & Claudia; and full of "cracks in the walls" Louis hid with photos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So after getting that box full of money, WHY didn't Louis move them into a nicer/bigger apartment--one not full of "students & sex workers"--esp. one in a nicer part of the 9th Arrondissement? šŸ¤Ø
So unless we're told otherwise, I think Louis felt bad about everything Lestat wrote in the letter, and decided not to spend any of Lestat's money, to just eke it out on his own--Deprivation du Lac strikes again! šŸ˜©šŸ¤¦

If I Make It to the Morning
Prompt B3: "Surprise Visit" to continue PWHL Lions for Day 4 of @oknutzy-week-2024. I cannot get enough of them, thank you @lumosinlove for making such brilliant characters and letting us play with them like paper dolls.
They were just so goddamn cute.
Finn bit down on her spoon, holding it between her teeth with her arms crossed over her chest until she felt like she could breathe without shrieking. Leo had woken for a few seconds, only to close her eyes and sink back into sleep easier than Finn had ever seen. Logan, who used to jerk awake at the faintest click of the front door, snored softly as if the whole city wasnā€™t waking outside.
They were so cute, and it was such a goddamn problem.
Logan wasā€¦god, Logan just was. She was, in her way, and Finn had never been able to get over it, not even after a year without so much as a stray meme on Instagram even though she knew Logan opened every single one of her private stories. Finn hadnā€™t expected the surprise visit to her apartmentā€”had thought Logan would be long gone, celebrating this insane dream come true with her new teammates. But Logan had come, Logan had stayed, Logan had allowed hugs she melted into and for Finn to take her to a restaurant where she laughed like nothing had changed.
Twenty-four hours passed. Logan got an Uber to the airport, Finn went to bed, and in the morning there was Leo. Bright and golden in overalls that made her look eight feet tall. A thin teal ribbon adorned her ponytail in a floppy bow that Finn wanted, desperately, to pull until it unraveled.
Iā€™m Finn, Finn Oā€™Hara. She had had to remind herself of her own last name. Come on in, your bedroomā€™s down the hall.
The books that had filled Leoā€™s duffel now sat snug on their IKEA bookshelves, tucked in with Finnā€™s like they were meant to be there. Her pots and pans were perfectly organized in the cabinets behind Finnā€™s head so she could reach them with ease. When Finn took a deep, fortifying breath, Leoā€™s magnolia room spray lingered in the air around her.
It was all so new and yet it felt so old, in the way an heirloom blanket was just the right softness and just the right length from years of comfort. The blanket Finn had bought to make this place feel a little more like home covered the expanse of Leoā€™s legs on one side of the couch and crept all the way up to Loganā€™s chest on the other. It was a fuzzy green thing; twenty dollars from Target, hardly something to be passed down. Finn wanted to hold it forever.
It was new and old and precious, and Finn could have absolutely none of it, so she bit her spoon and crossed her arms and waited for the coffeepot to finish hissing so she had an excuse to wake them up. Which happened to be the last thing she wanted.
It would be so convenient for Logan to miss her flight back to Minnesota. Maybe the storm had flooded a drain on their street. Maybe a tree had fallen somewhere between here and the hotel for the rest of her team. Maybe Finn could curl up in the armchair beside them andā€”whoops! Oh no! Overslept! Far too late to rush out, now, better if Logan just stayed a little longer in a place where she felt so right.
Leoā€™s Mardi Gras shirt fit her better than most of Finnā€™s clothes ever had.
These two would be the end of her.
A little milk, please. No sugar. Thanks, Harz.
Mixing the milk with the sugar first makes it taste better. Ouais, itā€™sā€¦science, or something.
Finn poured hers black, gripping the ceramic sides tight enough to hurt. These feelings were too much. Her heart was too much. She watched them sleep on her couch like a creep and wished on every glow-in-the-dark star she had socked away her nightstand as a surprise for Leo that they could have this every day. It was a selfish wish. She ached for it.
ā€œRouge?ā€
God. ā€œYeah?ā€ Finn answered, hoarse.
Logan mumbled something sleepy and low, stretching over the arm of the couch until her back cracked. ā€œWhen time?ā€
ā€œ ā€˜Bout eight.ā€ Finn cleared her throat and took a sip of coffee. ā€œI was going to get you up soon. Figured weā€™d drop you off at nine, nine-thirty.ā€
ā€œMmm.ā€ Logan blinked at her a few times, slow and foggy with the morning, before squinting around the room. Her vibrant gaze hesitated on Leo. ā€œFell asleep during the show.ā€
ā€œMe, too,ā€ Finn said quietly. ā€œGuess we were all tired.ā€
Logan hummed again. Leo slumbered on. The hall clock ticked down the seconds until Logan would return to her team, to Minnesota, to texts every other day.
None of them made any attempt to move.

a fallout newspaper clipping from a local new york paper (1981),
Tumblr media
transcription:
Itā€™s Fallout
A hearse pulls up to the front entrance of the Walker Theater ā€” instead of the usual departed one in the hearse, it contains the rock band, Fallout. The hearse stunt is typical of Fallout's highly theatrical approach to rock. Their show is loud, wild and non-stop, from the first roaring chord to the ritual organ smashing finale.
Fallout aways leaves its audience screaming for more. The band's members are: the imposing 6'8ā€ bassist/vocalist Peter Ratajczyk, the hyperactive drummer Louis Beato, virtuoso guitarist John Campos, and the wild and destructive keyboard player Josh Silver.
All of the members of Fallout live in the community and have generously donated their services to community events. For the past four years, they have played the Midwood Mardi Gras on Avenue M and recently played a free concert at Prospect Park.
Fallout was one of the featured bands at the Brooklyn Rock Showcase, which was held on November 7 and 8, at the Walker Theater. Last month they entertained at John Dewey High School. Professionally, they have delighted audiences in such clubs as Zappas, CBGB'S and 2001 Odessey.
Fallout's outrageous members are (left to right pictured here:) bottom row: Louis Beato and Peter Ratajezyk and (top row) Josh Silver and John Campos. If you're looking for a change of pace from the usual rock bands that all sound alike, then check out Fallout at their next gig.

When did Lestat write the letter?
Before the Mardi Gras party.
Since the letter is not dated that is literally all we know right now.
But Roget notes how that request for funds for said party was the last communication, so the deposit of the papers and letter had to happen before that.

It's me again! Thanks for doing the last one. I LOVE Drayton, but finding content for him in general isn't very easy! Let's shake it up a little though. What's Michael Myers like when he's not killing people, just.. at home? Either with a (G/N) reader or on his own. (Maybe some before and after comparisons?) -ā˜Žļø
Hey Anon! Iā€™m so glad you liked it! This was so fun to write because Michael is one of my all time favorite slashers! Thank you! šŸ¤—
Michael Myers
Michael Myers is a recluse. He likes to keep to himself most of the time and likes to be unbothered. When people bother him it pisses him off. Thatā€™s why he stalks and kills anyone who steps near or in his house. Take Laurie, for example, in the original movie; he basically only stalked her and attacked her because she stepped foot on his front porch.Ā
He is also a total homebody. He never steps foot out of his house unless he is going out killing or for his personal needs: food.Ā
He loves to spend time in Judithā€™s, his older sisterā€™s, room and stare out the gigantic window in there, stalking people some more. Hey! Heā€™s gotta make sure there are no intruders, okay?Ā
Michael is artsy. In his spare time, which he has a lot of spare time, heā€™ll create paper mache masks. Heā€™ll create all different kinds of masks: creepy masks, animal masks, Mardi Gras masks. You name it! Heā€™ll usually paint them. He has all sorts of different colors to paint his masks with. Michael has a pretty steady hand so his masks usually turn out pretty clean and painted with many different colors.Ā
This man never sleeps. The most sleep heā€™ll get in a day is 30 minutes to 3 hours. The amazing thing is that he functions just as fine as a normal human-being with 7 to 8 hours of sleep because I could never. šŸ˜“ During the night, heā€™ll lay in his bed, stiff as a rock, and stare at the ceiling. Heā€™ll just listen to all the noise around him waiting for the front door to creak open to announce an intruder that will unfortunately never be seen again.Ā
Now when you came along, everything flipped upside down for Michael. At first he didnā€™t like all of the changes that came with living with someone, but over time it stopped bothering him. It even gave him a sense of comfort to know that someone loves and is willing to take care of him.Ā
Michael canā€™t cook for shit. While he was living on his own, he would steal a lot of fast food. I mean a lot. He also loves his sweets. He kept a bowl of sweets in one of the top cabinets in the kitchen. However, when you came along is when he had his first ever home cooked meal. After that he never ate fast food again.Ā
He follows you everywhere. Going to the store? He is across the street, stalking you. At work? You can see him peeking in at the closest window to your desk. Donā€™t be alarmed. Heā€™s just making sure nothing happens to you.Ā
Michael likes to watch you sleep. Yeah. I agree. Itā€™s creepy, but itā€™s Michael. What do you expect? Heā€™ll stand in the corner of your bedroom and watch you the whole night. Again he is just trying to protect you. You know that people like to intrude into his house a lot right?Ā
You and him like to do movie nights. Heā€™ll only watch horror movies though; anything else and heā€™ll leave. He especially likes gory horror movies. If you're scared, he may or may not let you hold onto him during jumpscares. šŸ™‚
