"Sigyn in media"
A little something dedicated to Sigyn.. I'm honestly surprised no one has done this trend yet?! (On tiktok mostly, because that's where it's from) I'll be most likely be making more of these for other deities depending on how much I can gather :) Credit to all artists, paintings, music and books alike! <33

Depending on the versions of the tales where Sigyn is the first wife of Loki, I believe she was angry at first when she found out about Loki’s relationship with Angrboda.
Yes, I know it was common in Viking times for the husband to have more than one wife at a time, but that doesn’t mean the wife wouldn’t be angry about it. It doesn’t mean they wouldn’t feel a mix of emotions. Divorce was a thing a wife could choose, after all.
The same ALSO applies for the Goddess of Loyalty, Compassion and Victory! Just because Sigyn is loyal to her husband, it doesn’t mean she isn’t capable of emotions or getting on Loki for the mischief he does at times. Loyalty and Compassion don’t equal doormat no matter what Marvel Comics or Pop Culture would like to make you think about Sigyn.
I do think eventually once she processes her emotions and gets to know Angrboda for the person she is, it will all slowly dissipate off to the side. Of course Sigyn and Loki will have arguments or disagreements at times. It’s normal and healthy in every relationship, and she may forgive him for the things he does, but she also won’t forget it. Hence the line Sigyn says in the film ‘Mara and the Firebringer’ when they have been stuck in the cave for centuries;;

notes: I specify female lead because Draco Malfoy was not a lead role. Daughter in Trail To Oregon! is definitely co-lead, but I can only have so many characters per option. Holy Musical B@man did not feature a female lead. Honestly I forgot about Lex.

Eva Habermann as Sigyn
The only confirmed live action portrayal of Sigyn I’ve ever been able to come across is of Eva Habermann who played the Goddess in the German Movie: Mara and the Firebringer. (SPOILERS PRESENT)
Sigyn’s portrayal in this movie is absolutely amazing and the best one I’ve seen done for the goddess to this day (take a hint, Marvel writers.)
While holding the bowl above Loki and protecting him from the venom, she ends up being abducted by Loge: the Firebringer. Despite being taken hostage, Sigyn has cleverly bound all her magic to the bowl she uses, living up to her kenning as “Incantation-Fetter.”
Also, her relationship with Loki in this movie is just *chef’s kiss* perfection! They are pretty much happily married despite spending eternity in a cave together, caught in a sticky situation and losing their children. Loki is bound and determined to start Ragnarok just to save her until recruiting Mara who helps him bring his wife back. After being reunited by Mara, Sigyn even quips my most favorite line that honestly explains Loki and Sigyn’s relationship in a nutshell: “I know very well why my husband has been faithful to me for 2,000 years.”
And can we talk about how motherly and what parents Loki and Sigyn are towards Mara? Like honestly, I practically think they ended up adopting her in someway at the end of the film.
Sigyn’s Character Tropes displayed in the movie:
Action Girl
Damesel in Distress
Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold
Mama Bear
Undying Loyalty

Not to reblog my own edit even though that is absolutely what I'm doing but I've been thinking back to this movie recently (thanks, @galarix <3) and damn, I still love these scenes so much. I mean, just look at the details.
Sigyn hesitating for a moment before entering the cave, likely overwhelmed by fear and shock and horror, but pushing through all of that and running to help Loki. Loki's face as he struggles to free himself from his bonds (does the movie ever mention what they're made of...?), not to get out of his punishment but to hold onto her and save her from this new threat, and actually does manage to get one hand free but in vain, as he's left with only her shawl. The way he reaches up to help her hold the bowl, now that he can... and it's no big dramatic gesture, but something quiet and easy that happens when Mara, our main character, is already turning away from them and seemingly ready to go.
Also: as always, shout-out to the not-a-Suebian-knot. We love understated, domestic shows of care and trust, as well as a man with long, pretty hair and his wife who casually reminds him to be sensible about it.
«I couldn’t free Sigyn. Or do you only care about the goblet?»
«…»
«I’d like to know.»
«I would bear the snake’s venom for eternity just to have her.»
«Oh. So, all those black-eyed zombies… that was always you. You called me because you needed my help. And if you weren’t chained, you’d go save your wife, Sigyn, yourself. Right?»
«Yeah.»

I just found out about a 2015 German movie called Mara and the Firebringer about a teenage girl who has to rescue Sigyn from Surtr (I think?) or Loki will cause Ragnarok. Also, apparently, it's based on a book? I don't think it's available anywhere online and I need it now!!

Now that you mention it, the Volsung-Nibelung-Dietrich cycle would make a good sitcom if you just focused on the zanier parts. The Nibelung siblings Gullrond, Gunther, Gernot, Giselher, Kriemhild, and (maybe) Hagen, with all their pals. Nephews Dankwart and Patavrid; Gunther's incredibly athletic girlfriend Brynhild and her dog and horse; the Nibelungs' best pal and Brynhild's ex Sigurd, who would be the man you wished your man could be if not his moments of random philosophizing or idiotic life decisions despite knowing what was going to happen; Hagen's best pals, Volker the musician and Walther the nerd; local businessman Rudiger and his sweet, cutesy young daughter; socially maladjusted Dietrich and his gang of pals, who always pop up during hangouts despite nobody inviting them... With less murder and more mayhem, it sure would make a good show!
You know, one thing I will always be irrationally sad about when it comes to the Sigurd/Siegfried cycle and related legends is that... it just never gets any of the wacky, zany, "how tf did you even come up that" adaptations and reimaginings Arthuriana keeps getting.
I mean, sure, you do have adaptations with some humor in it, and different ways to mesh Norse and Continental and even Wagnerian elements, and very different perspectives on the same characters. But Arthuriana really has anything and everything from Disney movies to anime and manga to Monty Python movies and musicals to kids' cartoons to A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court and all its parodies to Young!Arthur/Young!Merlin Slashy Bromance shows to irriverent French sitcoms to loosely-inspired queer YA romance novels to a few recurring and even main characters in "all stories are true" fantasy series like Once Upon a Time or The Librarians. There's even those collector's edition Merlin & Morgana Barbies that were making the rounds on here a while ago!
Meanwhile, the wackiest, less "serious" stuff our Nibelungs get are:
The brief Siegfried & Fafnir cameo in the Mara and the Firebringer movie, where the main mythological figures are actually Loki and Sigyn (can't really say anything about the books, as I haven't read them)
A weird Hungarian (?? iirc??) comedy movie where Siegfried has a talking piglet as his animal companion for some reason and Kriemhild really doesn't like him but she apparently can't just tell him to get lost and stop courting her so she orders Hagen to drive him away from Worms and kill him, which I've only ever managed to "watch" in bits and pieces
The comedic operetta Die lustigen Nibelungen, which I've never managed to find anything about that wasn't in German, so I'm not even really sure what it's actually about
The 70s porn movie The Long Swift Sword of Siegfried, which... tbh, I'd rather stick to fanworks on the nsfw side of things, if the alternative is Siegfried with a pornstache
A Modern/High School AU fantasy romance self-pub I once found where, from what I remember of the summary and excerpt I read, Brunhild is a Mean Girl/Queen Bee who tries to steal Siegfried away from Kriemhild and Hagen is Kriemhild's shitty jealous ex-boyfriend (nothing against High School AUs, or romance novels, or alternative takes on the Kriemhild/Siegfried/Brunhild love triangle, or Hagen/Kriemhild as a ship... but tbh, I'd rather see all those elements handled in vastly different ways XDD)
A couple of old Italian Disney comicbook parodies featuring Donald Duck and his family (but those were mostly Wagner-based, iirc, and then again, an amazing thing about Italian Disney comics is that they will parody literally everything under the sun from the Divine Comedy to Twilight)
... Siegfried (or Sigurd?) showing up in one of the Fate anime series? Or novels? Or games? Not sure. I've only ever watched like two episodes of the Fate/Stay Night anime and then dropped it because I didn't like the normal guy protagonist always rushing to protect his (secretly Fem!King Arthur) supernatural sworn knight just because she was a girl
And... that's it, I think.
And on the one hand, I get it. With Arthuriana, you have adventurous romances and ridiculous (affectionate) quests and so many different bizarre canons and twists on them that even that cartoon where Morgan Le Fay sends an American football team back in time to Camelot (I think that was the plot, at least????) is just another "you know, this might as well happen" situation. I suppose that, at least by comparison, the Nibelungensage & All Adjacent Stuff may appear more grounded and less easy to play with and bring in whatever strange, unlikely new direction you want. Plus, tragic events like Sigurd/Siegfried's death, Brynhild/Brunhild being tricked into marrying a man she doesn't want, and Gudrun/Kriemhild's revenge, or even Dietrich's exile, are just central to it, so that's kind of a downer already, I guess.
... on the other hand, King Arthur's tale literally ends with him and his son killing each other at the end of a bloody civil war. And it's not like anyone's ever had any problem merrily ignoring THAT part to, idk, have everyone in the story be cats.
All this to say, I'd watch the hell out of a Modern AU Nibelung sitcom. Or even just a Nibelung sitcom set in the Middle Ages, or Late Antiquity, or a vague mishmash of the two. The dream for that would be a Galavant-style show with musical numbers and a lot of scenes poking fun at epic and heroic tropes, ngl.
Actually, let's be real: I wouldn't just watch it, I'd probably write fic and make gifs and fanvids for it!

Logyn Appreciation Week
Day 3- Favourite Depiction
Ah once again if only there was more to pick from. There may only be a few but there are some good ones
First is naturally norse mythology because without that we wouldn’t be here. And unlike what some people believe, the myths do not suggest Loki is an abusive husband. If anything they suggest the opposite but that’s another conversation
Even though Marvel caused most of the problems with their portrayal that still persists they do have some good moments. And they have potential for even more if they weren’t cowards. Not to mention it was through Marvel I got interested in Logyn so I always have a soft spot for them
Can’t go wrong with a bit of cosmic horror now can you? Heart wrenching, beautiful, and creepy how can you not like it. And Sigyn taking over the resistance when Loki goes missing, love it
This book may have tore my heart right out of my chest and than stomped on it for extra measure but it was still good. Don’t think I can ever read it again mind you, but I think that just goes to show how effective it was. I loved this Sigyn and Loki and I just want them to have a happy ending, is that to much to ask for.
And since I haven’t actually seen Mara and the Firebringer or read any of Lyra Wolf’s books I can’t say anything about them. But I bet you they’re good too

Logyn Appreciation Week
Day 3: Favorite Depiction (Marvel, Mythology, The Bifrost Incident, etc.)
As already @jonquilclegane has written I can only quote you!
Oh, the Bifrost incident is SO GOOD, isn’t it? It’s all we have always wanted, and more! Sigyn being strong, having an agenda of her own... while still loving Loki deeply, ready to die by her side <3 *cries even more*
And my biggest favorite of all Mara and the Firebringer 😍
I've known Tommy Krappweis for so long and can't wait for the next three books in the trilogy to come 🥰
Mythology Loki Cosplay by @thewitchysystem
And of course the Norse Mythology

I watched Ani: A Parody for the first time...
Two in two days, lads look at me go!! But seriously, I LOVED IT HOLY SHIT
Now anyone who knows me knows that I love Star Wars, on May 4th I watched all the movies in just over 24 hours back to back, so I’m THAT Star Wars fan, right? I went into watching this with lowish expectations because I haven’t seen much attention being put on it, but after finishing it I have no clue why??? It was hilarious, I loved all the characters and the jokes they had and the MUSIC oh lord.
Starting with the music, oh god we are gonna have to stan TalkFine for the rest of time, it was INSANE, immediately going on all of my playlists for sure. I particularly loved One In A Million because it absolutely slapped. Also, loved the fact that Haunted By The Kiss is just Anakin’s quote from Attack of the Clones, nice detail.
I loved J.J. SO much, I was so sad about what Obi Wan did to him, which I never thought I’d say so that’s insane. Brian is overflowing with talent to pull him off as well as other characters in the show, we love to see it.
Jeffrey and Emily are goals, even if Tarkin sticks his foot in his mouth sometimes, we stan an iconic duo and it will now pain me to watch A New Hope after this knowing that they will both die :(
Nick Lang was insane and we love Pappy, I mean we already loved Pappy but now we love him more :) Loved seeing Nick in this, but also JOE MOSES. I love Bob so freaking much, dude. He’s such a lad, we love to see it :)
CHRIS ALLEN I LOVE YOU. I could leave it at that but I won’t because there’s too much to say, first thing being I loved the voice he used for Ani and his delivery was on point, I was laughing from the beginning. Especially loved the running joke about explaining his jokes, totally my kind of humour.
Denise as Mara Jade was a godsend, I never thought I’d root for someone to BECOME one of Jabba’s slave girls but here we are lol
MEREDITH AS OOLA AND ALL OF HER OTHER CHARACTERS WAS HILARIOUS AND WE ALREADY STANNED HER FROM BEFORE BUT SHE’S GETTING ANOTHER MENTION
Seriously though, why is this musical not higher up on people’s lists?? I saw that it came out the same year as Trail To Oregon, so part of me is thinking that maybe that took away it’s spotlight?? But IDK I haven’t seen TTO yet but I do know that it is a LOT more popular than this one.
Final note, I loved it a lot, I think I would rate it second out of the ones I have seen thus far, next to Firebringer, followed by Twisted, Black Friday and then TGWDLM (controversial I know, but doesn’t mean I don’t still like it)
Next one to watch might be MAMD because I haven’t watched any of the oldest ones yet and I need some more Joe Walker in my life
