Geralt isn't a fan of the new intern his family's office has hired. He never stops humming or snapping his fingers, and he always gets Geralt's coffee wrong, and he trips over nothing and spills paperwork everywhere at least twice a week, and he won't stop flirting with Geralt, but more than anything, the absolute worst part about it all... is Geralt's starting to look forward to his shenanigans. This all comes to a head when one night when everyone is going home, Geralt and Jaskier are last in the building. They're on their way down in the elevator when it stops. Oh shit- They're stuck in the elevator. Possibly overnight. I like to imagine Jaskier thinks Geralt hates him, and is also terrified of their current situation, so he has a quirky fun lil panic attack (I can make this joke i used to have really bad panic attacks before i got on better meds) and the person talking him down from it is the chiseled god of a man he wants to drool over but Jaskier is SURE must hate his guts. Geralt doesn't hate his guts. Anymore-

Four looked at Wind as the respiratory therapy student paused by his desk at the nurse’s station. The teenager’s face was scrunched, eyes roaming aimlessly from focal point to focal point.

“What’s wrong?” Four asked.

“Why is it so quie—”

Four immediately kicked Wind’s shoe. “Don’t you dare say it.”

Wind hissed, “But it is! Something’s wrong!”

“What are you talking about? What, because the patients are actually asleep?”

Dot, who had been floated over for the night, cocked her head to the side. “No, he’s right, something’s off.”

The three stayed silent a moment, listening intently. They could hear every individual movement in the unit. Four felt like he was in an abandoned building at night. What was wrong?

Wind slammed his hand on the desk, making everyone in the vicinity jump. “It’s the air vents! There’s no air circulating!”

Four blinked and listened again, and realized Wind was right. The vents, which usually were constantly circulating air and creating a white noise in the background of all the hustle, were off.

“Must be because they’re testing the generators,” Dot wondered.

Four hummed in acknowledgement as Wind shuddered. “It’s freaking creepy.”

After the group dispersed, Four continued to chart and plan out his next few hours, but he was acutely aware of every single sound on the entire unit.

Good grief. It really was too quiet.

Four sincerely hoped he wouldn’t regret thinking that.

I swear, my freaking apartment. When we moved in, everything to do with water had to get fixed at some point. None of the faucets had the hot water turned on. Both bathtub faucets leaked. The make ready people hadn't hooked up the washer or dryer. Someone left coins (???) in the garbage disposal. We had a brand new water heater, but the pipes connected to it needed to be entirely replaced because they leaked (and the leak sensor kept going off in the LOCKED CLOSET). And while we were moving in (in May in Texas!) the a/c quit on us.

AND THEN! For most of November the heat was out! This was, of course, a period where it got down into the the 30s multiple times. We survived with a space heater, but it sucked!

AND NOW! The a/c doesn't work! This being Texas, we've had a warm front come through and the apartment got up to about 80, except when we turned the a/c on, the temperature went up! I've had the windows open all night and it's barely down to 78 because it only got down to the high 60s last night. And it's been like 100% humidity for three days so everything is sticky.

So, yeah, looking forward to putting in ANOTHER maintenance request letting them know they fixed the heat too well. :/

Sometimes I just sit and thank my lucky fucking stars that my boss is good and not an asshole because really he could be. Nothing is stopping him, he has that power. Yet he comes by and notices me doubled over in barely concealed agony and lets me know that if I judge that I can not do my job safely—safely was the word he used, not effectively, not in a timely fashion, but safely—I would not be throwing a monkey wrench into anybody’s plans by going home. Not only that but I think he knows it’s my period as well, because I came into work having a good day with zero problems and then he came by to find that it had all hit me at once. And he knows I’m not bullshitting him because he’s had to actively send me home for not paying attention to my health a few times now. I mean I get why from a purely practical standpoint, because my job is one in which some mistakes can literally kill you or best case scenario cause lifelong injury and having dead or injured employees is Not Good but it clearly extends beyond that, he wants high morale around the shop as well.
