Something small I just noticed! I think MAG25 is the first time Jon mentions Martin in the post-statement bit without bullying him or trashing his work 😂
PreMAG22 Jon: Martin found this police report and it's so useless he's so useless I wish he'd die.
PostMAG22 Jon: Martin found this police report and it's actually so useful and insightful and leads me to not dismiss this statement for some reason. End recording
This is what they call a slow burn growth

MAG 37 “Burnt Offering” review: man, this is heavy…..
We start off with Sims grilling Martin about the movers, but lost importantly there’s a soft moment between him and Martin when Martin tells him he needs to sleep. But onto the statement:
This one was not as scary as others, but it definitely had good creepy vibes. There’s something menacing about how he didn’t describe what fire-related incident happened to his wife which makes the whole thing worse as you have to imagine what happened yourself. Most importantly, the photo in the glass jars surrounding the clearing are of Gertrude, Sim’s predecessor.
The same Gertrude who died at the same time of an incident in an earlier,m statement, though for the life of me I can’t remember which. I’d have to look through the transcripts and I can’t bring myself to muster up enough energy to read through them. Typing out that sentence made me feel like I want to do it out of spite so I’ll be back.
Okay, after combing through some transcripts I found that in MAG 25 “Growing Dark”, Gertrude Robinson died May 15th, 2015, the same day that police were called out to investigate the weird chapel that the vampire cult lived in, on account of neighbors hearing screams. I don’t think this has any connection to today’s Statement but I like to keep things connected. Gertrude…..what was your damage? Overall, this episode has a 6/10 for me, could’ve been scarier, will burn down a random man’s life again.
Statement ends.

Lol literally two seconds before the line where he jokes about her being a vampire I was thinking to myself, 'If I were him, I'd assume she was a vampire.'
Tumblr media
I hate this! Yeah yeah yeah she's flooding the home with darkness to serve her fear god or whatever, but it's so fucking petty!! And annoying!!! Why are all avatars pathetic little children first and evil monsters second? Oh wait, maybe it's because that's what being afraid all the time does to a person.
Tumblr media
She's practicing for choir!! She has to learn a whole new language for this song. Leave her alone!!
Tumblr media
She left her vibrator on.
Tumblr media
And another person falls victim to the Entities because they were too British to successfully avoid an awkward confrontation. Girl, your roomate has joined some sort of cult and is keeping you awake with occult singing all night. If you're not going to move out immediately (for some reason) at the very least don't let her peer pressure you into eating weird slimy spinach in the dark with her.
Tumblr media
What does Natalie think will happen when the world is reborn in darkness? Obviously she thinks it must be good, otherwise she wouldn't be doing it, and she's been at least a little brainwashed by Raynor and the Chruch. But like... what did they tell her specifically? She's talking about home and family and being saved, all things I would associate with a merficial god. But her god eats fear, so what the fuck?
Tumblr media
Generally speaking, I think it was a misstep to try and turn the Dark into a cult. A fear of the dark is such a childish thing, I think the Dark works best when we experience it through the eyes of children, or using childish perspectives. Julia Montauk home alone with a monster at the door, the children trapped in Night Street, 'the blanket never did anything'. Darkness is difficult to do effectively in an audio medium, but moments like these work because they speak to the scared children inside all of us.
That said, fear as a form of worship fucking slaps. I just think other Entities could have done it better.
Tumblr media
I also did a search for Hither Green Dissenters, and along with some images if a particularly creepy looking abandoned church, I found this:
Tumblr media
An original Smirke design! And as far as I know Jonny doesn't mention this anywhere in the main canon. I wonder how many other details like this can be found with a little extra research?
Tumblr media
If my maths is right, the Dark ritual lasted for at least a month. Was London just weirdly dim the entire time, or was this only noticable to people in close proximity to the Dark?

I was listening to MAG 25 Growing Dark.
And while the whole cult bit sounds creepy and all I just can't get trough the fact that the monster of the Dark is called Mr. Pitch.
Like make something scary and then strip it away by giving a silly name to it.
Also it's not an official name, that's just what Natalie said

You know how the dark also symbolizes ignorance? (No that’s not the stranger shut up-)
Nathalie saying “why, but you’re worshipping them as we speak!” Is just her calling Cathy a dumb bitch

Honestly, I respect Colin's decision to go apeshit on the computers. If I worked for an evil government agency that had evil monsters murder people and had to listen to all those people die every day I think I too would have gone a little crazy. He deserves some property damage as a treat.

The weirdest thing Jonathan Sims and Arthur Lester have in common is that they both made a guy explode by asking too many questions 🥰🥰🥰

Note
I think the creepiest moment in MAG 25 for me isn't the sequence in the chapel at the end, but instead the moment when Natalie told Kathy that she was 'worshipping [the Fears] as we speak' - something about how being afraid of the Entities is also in a way worshipping them gave me chills.
Natalie really understood what was actually happening yeah!
