I've been handling guns since I was 6yrs old. These are obviously not real pistols. You can tell by the screw holes in the frames, the mold/assembly lines, the undersized magwells, and the VERY clear airsoft magazines. It's a specific mix of contemporary guns too, including at least 7 H&K USPS, which cost about $1,200 each, assorted Glocks, "tactical" 1911s, and generic S&W/ Beretta autos. They're some of the most common airsoft guns. The guns that aren't obvious plastic reproductions show no wear, and "custom" features that you wouldn't see on say, smuggled military weapons being carried around by local militia in a region that is absolutely littered with cheaper older Soviet hardware. Even looted American weapons would more likely include a bunch of very beat up Beretta M9s.

This is my favorite part though:

THAT appears to be a PILE of Knights Armament PDWs and only KAC PDWs. That gun is an "experimental" rifle w/ a $3k price tag. It chambers a proprietary 6x35mm round or 300 Blackout. Not standard ammo for any major military on Earth, making it a terrible choice for guerilla fighters. 500rds of 300blk will cost you as much as a basic S&W M&P (a civilian M4 clone) in .556 if you can find it in the US. The KAC PDW is also a popular airsoft rifle since it's rare, expensive, and dripping with tacticool features. There are almost certainly more airsoft versions than real ones in the world, but I can't say for sure because I can't find a number produced online.

There are NO AKs, M4s, M16s, FN FALs- guns that might conceivably be available in numbers for insurgent militia in the region. It's not uncommon to see fighters in the Middle East still fielding WW2-era weapons, but the only other long gun I can even try to ID on that table is essentially a cowboy gun! 🤠

10 minutes of searching on my phone was enough to prove this shit isn't real. And I am very very sleepy today. Writing this post took longer than tracking down that rifle by its features. I know this might not be as obvious to people who haven't handled real guns but for anyone remotely familiar with them, this looks like a joke.

This makes American cops posing around a ziploc bag of weed look good by comparison. That weed might be real.

This is extremely lazy misinformation work. It's a pathetically low effort ruse from an army that could easily have just planted real weapons. The only reason someone would post this for the world to see and claim it's real is if they're very, very stupid, think we are, or are well beyond trying because they know they hold a position of such untouchable privilege that they're cool doing the bare minimum of covering their asses. Like the cops!

All of those options make me real sad. So I'm going to just post this and never check on the comments.

There’s a rumble of thunder from the hallway and Beau comes sprinting into the room, a sheen to her forehead betraying how far and fast she’s run. She hoists her phone aloft as she bursts through the door. 

“Have you guys fucking seen this?”

The scene she beholds is grim. Caleb barely registers her entrance, his hollow eyes glancing at her phone and sinking lower in his chair. Veth has her phone in a white knuckle grip, holding it in the air like it’s infectious. 

Beau doesn’t slow her speed and haphazardly races into Caleb’s room, crash landing against the dorm bed. She lurches back up to read over Veth’s shoulder to confirm her fears. “Shit! Who else got this?”

Veth doesn’t look away from the screen. “Considering how many times Jester called and left voicemails in the last five minutes, I think it’s fucking safe to assume everybody did.”

“Oh fuck.” Beau slides down onto the floor, taking a sheet with her. 

“I share your sentiment.” Caleb’s voice seems to come from deep inside a well. 

“What do we do?” Veth spins to look at them both. 

“Don’t look at me!” Beau glares. “Somebody must have talked.”

“No.” Caleb replies sharply. “Do not let this turn us against each other. I feel… that seems to be what they want.”

Veth hurls the phone onto the bed where it bounces twice before settling, still open to the message that has shaken them all to the core.

SIG-Sauer Pistols CC Collection

Began in 1975, with an aquisition of a German arms factory of J.P Sauer und Sohn GmbH by the Swiss SIG AG, SIG-Sauer produces many variants of pistols including : 

SIG P220

The very first patent since the joint of these two companies. Launched in 1975 to fill the position of the police issue sidearm. Also this model is a principle of the next SIG-Sauer pistol designs.

SIG P226

Issued in 1985 as a development of P220 with advanced features. Actually participated in US DoD's XM9 program, but instead the Beretta 92F was chosen. Later acquired by the US Navy as M11. One of Original "Wonder 9" Member who Successfully toppled the Revolver's Domination during 1980s inside Law Enforcement and Military alike.

SIG P228/P229

A compact variant of P226 basically some length was chopped from the barrel and slide, as well as from the grip. The P229, was developed especially for the US market and is assembled in the USA using both German and US-made parts. It’s identical to the P228 except for a heavier slide. The P229 slide is made by machining a bar of steel as opposed to stamping and forming from sheet steel. Sig Sauer's Attempt on Modernizing their Sig Sauer Series to make it relevant for current Polymer frame Pistol Trend and stay relevant in Military Industries. The SIG Pro is a series of semi-automatic pistols developed by SIG Sauer in Exeter, New Hampshire. It became the first polymer-frame handgun from SIG Sauer and one of the first pistols to feature a built-in universal accessory rail and interchangeable grips. Modernized XM9: A Metal Gear Solid 2 thought project

This portrayal of the XM9 is now 21 years old, how would we modernize it for use in 2023 and beyond? Let's start with the base gun. The original is a Beretta M9 with an added on manual lock-up from Knight's Armanent Company.

I honestly think with modern suppressors, and ammunition, we can forgo the manual slide lock solution, even tho the Hush Puppy Project exists and they do slide lock conversions for Glocks and M&P slides. Then we can move to an off-the-shelf solution for a pistol; For the proper modernization but keeping the style, I'd look at the Beretta pistols as modified Ernest Langdon at Langdon Tactical Technologies

These particular variants offer the lowest possible mounting of the red dot sight we'll be adding. And comes with suppressor height sights as standard that will allow co-witness through the red dot in the miraculous case that your 2 year battery life unexpectedly craps out on you. For the red dot sight, a Trijicon RMR seems like the go-to option. It is the option that all other optics are measured against.

For in-game purposes this would make aiming easier in first person perspective for newer players as no knowledge of how regular iron sights work would be needed. Just a red dot would be needed. For regular third person view, that's where the Surefire x400v comes into play. It is the venerable Surefire x300, the go-to pistol light, but in IR, and with IR laser capabilities. This allows for even more use of the infrared goggles you can find in-game.

The Beretta pistol makes for an interesting host for pistol suppressors. Due to the movement of the barrel during firing, there is less or no need for a booster or Nielsen Device, allowing you to have a lighter suppressor. And for the kind of use this is intended for, less weight is really important. This also allows for a suppressor that isn't as specialized as the can used on the original XM9, this would allow for the same suppressor to potentially be used on whatever 9mm carbines or SMGs that could appear in the game.

So yeah, that's my thoughts on how to reimagine what I think is a pretty iconic gun for the Metal Gear franchise.
