Watched Lupin part 6 for the second time... the narrative arcs are kinda good. The standalone episodes tho are a nightmare most of the time.
There's no in-between, they go from boring and overused to batshit insane literature lessons and supernatural voids.
The love and passion you can feel in part 4 and 5 is just lacking.
Still nervous about Lupin III's future...
#lupin iii#lupin the third#lupin iii part 6#come on guys you literally have a limited amount of episodes and you go with a little girl fantasizing the most heterosexual fable between#Jig Goe Lup and Fujiko#newcomers would never pick up something like this that's what I'm saying#I liked the teamwork episode (ep. 17) but this was basically the old plot of an episode of part 2#I didn't hate the Goemon as a model episode. Wow, I didn't realize the jump in page numbers was THAT big! Like, of course I noticed that The Eleventh Hour was physically longer than Suffering Game, I pointed it out. But putting a number to it puts into perspective how much content we could have had. We could have had only half of those 78 pages and I think it would have done wonders for the pacing of Wonderland.
Am I crazy or is the Suffering Game issue the book where most plot has been cut out??? Cause it feels so weirdly paced. And just kinda weirdly written in general.
Like there’s no Betrayal/Trust game, they go directly from Wheel to Monster Factory (and only fights the bear) and directly from Wheel to Heart Attack (no explanation for why they would end up there, just that it’s the “next stop”).
Then they skip the last Wheel round (meaning we don’t get Taako’s loss of Elven Beauty - a pretty important moment for his character, Merle loses his eye in the second round instead, and Magnus keeps all memories of Governor Kalen - he was offered loss of Julia instead and didn’t take it. Which. Fair.. and also, no bad luck) and go straight to the Lich fight??? So no boss Rush either. We also never see a penalty in this book.
Speaking of things missing from this book. Where the fuck is Cam? Or Lord Artemis Sterling? Rowan and Antonia???
The book is almost 300 pages long. They enter Wonderland at p. 52. We see the full room at p. 107. They only spent 55 pages on the bulk of this arc. The rest of the book has good pacing so what the fuck happened here. The book should have been longer. The impact of the suffering game isn’t felt as hard when there’s less gruelling challenges that loses Tres Horny Bois hp, or when you cut out any other npc that was affected by Wonderland from the story.
Due to this limited number of pages we also get weird pacing like Merle asking Magnus whether he spent “all that time thinking up the move” during the direbear fight, even though there’s only like 2 panels between Taako ending his move and Magnus beginning his. Also Merle you didn’t do anything during that fight, so get off your high horse.
Also, we only actually see one spell of Merle’s fail, that being the healing spell, so for all he knows, nothing is wrong with his powers, so him commenting on the fact that it would be nice to “be able to commune with a higher power” once they’re out of wonderland makes no fucking sense. Cause he could just?? Try and contact Pan?? Like he does later anyways??? Like we actively see him reaching into the astral plane without issue, so clearly up until that point no magical foul play.
Now, did stuff like the boss rush and the like have to have been in the book? No, but it’s weird when you think of what was kept in and was removed. Like fx, why was Taako shown giving up his acrobatics prof but not his elven beauty?
Also side note about Heart Attack - this is not relevant but it just makes me personally crazy, the book seems to imply that the mannequins have free will??? In that Lydia and Edward literally whisper to each other about “oh no the audience and the hot hot hot contestant actually likes these guys”????? WHAY?? Like aren’t they the ones who control all of what happens inside wonderland??
#i dont wanna be overly negative#because there were quite a few moments that shone#like taako remembering lup#and davenport remembering HIMSELF#were both really well done#Magnus's moments with ango were really well done#and i loved the ending#they just took away a lot of suffering games teeth#dont even get me STARTED on my rant for the Arms Outstretched scene#the adventure zone comic#the adventure zone#taz#taz graphic novel

luposcainus asked: " there are many different species of werewolf.."
"There are only three. The classic werewolf, the shapeshifter and the poor sod who is cursed to live as a wolf as a punishment for something he or she has done. But if you want to get technical ---Let's assume all the werewolves in fiction are real and coexist." He inhales before he begins his rant. "There are Werewolf... A person who transforms under the full moon into an actual wolf, and back again at daybreak. Any weapon will kill them,' He counts off on his index finger.
"Wolf Man, like Lon Chaney Jr. or Benicio Del Toro in the movies. Werewolf by Night. Complete badasses. Only silver will kill them. Rugaru, a sort of toned down Wolfman, like in the Monsters and Mysteries show, Werewolf of London is a good example. Keeps much of their intelligence, stalks their own loved ones, any weapon can kill them.
Wolven, From the Streiber book. Urban werewolves, bottom feeders. Can change at will at night. Any weapon can kill them." He has not stopped to take a breath he just keeps rambling. "Lup Garou, like in the Howling . Lycans would be Lup Garous. Aside from appearance, pretty similar to Wolf Men but actually like the change and embrace it. As such, they start to be able to transform outside the full moon and in daylight. Uh. Dog Men.
Lobo Malle, the legendary Beast of Bedouin. A human that is thru dark powers transformed into a colossal demonic wolf. An American Werewolf in London would be one. Can transform day or night. Any weapon can kill them, just has to be... alotta of them." He thinks for a moment. "Oh and Lupine the werewolves of the Harry Potter verse. All skin and bones and weird. But This doesn’t include things like wolf spirit folk from Asian myths or anything like Kibikichi the Samurai Werewolf in the Japanese movies."

https://www.cbr.com/negan-comics-different-series-walking-dead/
I knew this article would irritate me just seeing the title. And it did not disappoint. Do these so-called article writers even research what they're stating as apparent truth? Apparently fucking not.
TV Negan Salt ahead! Sort of. Lol
However, Negan is a highly engaging character himself, one who has transitioned from villain to hero. This wasn’t so clear cut in the comics, though,
Why wasn't it so clear cut in the comics? I thought it was pretty fucking clear. And without the need to fucking retcon naughty actions hoping the audience's 3-second attention span will just forget about it.
Negan Was Actually A Used-Car Salesman In The Comic
For some reason, the TV series didn’t adapt Negan’s background as a used-car salesman, instead settling on establishing him as a gym teacher by profession. This was the background of the character before the zombie apocalypse took place.
The TV series left out Negan’s use of his talking skills to get his prospective customers to purchase his cars, with the gym teacher history not really factoring into anything. His part-time work as a used-car salesman was meant to show how Negan wanted some level of control in his own affairs.
Hey, you want to know the real reason the tv show left this out? BECAUSE IT'S NOT IN THE FUCKING COMIC. ANYWHERE.
He isn't shown selling cars. He isn't shown using his 'skills to get customers to purchase cars.'
The car salesman thing is in his wiki, because someone took a JOKE by Kirkman in the Letters section of the comic seriously.
HE IS NOT A CAR SALESMAN ANYWHERE IN COMIC CANON.
Research, what's that? Duhrrr.
The TV series probably wanted to avoid painting Negan as too much of a weirdo, as the comics’ version was very vocal in his uncomfortable obsession with the bat and how he described the ways he wanted to love it.
Negan is supposed to be a fucking weirdo, not some boring normal. He's supposed to be obsessed with Lucille and personify her, and even risk his safety to keep her 'safe'.
Puh, at least comic Negan isn't a 50 year old lecher.
What the TV series hasn’t adapted is the character’s preference for violence even after he had turned into one of the good guys.
He displayed this when he took out Brandon, having killed the boy purely because he wanted to despite Brandon’s idolization of him. Meanwhile, the TV version killed Brandon due to the latter’s villainy as he had originally wanted Brandon to leave him alone
Oh, you mean how the show retconned him into a pure little Saint like he got a lobotomy while he was in prison?
Fucking wrong. Comic Negan didn't kill Brandon Rose just because '"he wanted to". He killed him because Brandon was a fucking sociopath who wanted everyone in Alexandria (including Negan's darling Ricky-poo) to die. He actively let Negan out to make this happen. Negan killed him to eliminate a threat. Oh and because he was annoying. Sure. Lol.
Also, Comic Negan has a willingness to do violence. Not necessarily a preference.
This was an exclusion of the source material, where Negan willingly exiled himself after seeing the failure of his ways.
His reasoning to do so was to pay for his sins, especially the fact that he’d made Maggie a widow. Comic book Negan remained so steadfast over wanting to be in exile that he continued to do so more than two decades later by the end of the comic series.
I'm not sure this is true. I think Negan would've stayed in Alexandria if Rick had let him. I'm not sure how willingly he lived alone, considering he was unhappy being so disconnected from others. Also, with Negan Lives, we know he at least traveled with Lucy for a while.
as he wasn’t keen on using firearms. He only did so begrudgingly during the Whisperer war, while always favoring the use of Lucille.
Negan uses guns in Here's Negan and even says they're cool. Later he tells Rick it's stupid to use guns on the dead. He's got a lot of armed guys protecting his back so he didn't really need one. Also he didn't begrudgingly anything in the Whisperer War. He wanted to have a gun!
His God Complex, Where People Would Follow His Every Command
The TV series made sure to leave this part of Negan’s characterization out, as it depicted him as an opportunist who used people as a resource rather than disposing of them after they outlived their importance. The comic book version veered heavily toward him being worshipped, proving his God complex.
Since Negan’s violent tendencies were toned down in general, it’s more than likely that the TV series didn’t adapt this part of Negan to avoid making him an irredeemable villain. Still, it’s a pretty vital part of his personality from the comics that didn’t show up onscreen.
This is so laughably wrong that you know that this writer never read the comic. I can't even. All of this shit is more indicative and more dialed up in the TV VERSION.
Please, TV Negan didn't use people? He treated his people like trash. He gave them numbers instead of names. He set up his own guys as killable bait, something comic Negan would've never done.
People kneeled to comic Negan one fucking time. They didn't constantly refer to themselves as 'Negan', thus erasing their identities. That was TV shit.
Oh sure, his violence is toned down in the show which is why only the tv version was gonna kill Dwight and Sherry, only the tv version BURNED SOMEBODY ALIVE, only the tv version was split seconds away from caving Carl's head in and only the tv version threatened to make Rick chop off his kid's arm. Hahaha, you're so funny article.
So you're saying the show wanted to avoid making Negan an irredeemable villain which apparently is what the comic version from this comic you clearly never read is. Well, I gotta say, when the tv show relies on retconning to make this happen... And the comic doesn't, well now. Who did the better job in achieving that?
#Negan#Comic Negan#TV Negan Salt#Lup rants#Lup blabs#Stop writing shit you didn't read srsly#It felt nice to rant about neegs hahaha

Throughout the stolen century, Barry was greatly invested in the bond machine’s workings, and he absolutely adored finding out more about it. One day Lup found him in the lab practically vibrating as he got to work on starting to figure out how their recorded states influenced their pain tolerance, and whether their memories of going through similar injuries would allow their tolerance to get better or if the fact that their recorded states didn’t have the brain pathways necessary for it to evolve would mean that their pain tolerance would stay as it was the first day they boarded the Starblaster, and really Lup, this kind of stuff is incredibly interesting-
He then proceeded to start the next 10 cycles by getting Magnus to break his nose For Science ™️ to see if it got any less painful.

Hey, out of curiosity! Why do u hope Lup is straight? :P
a lot of people like to pretend straight trans people aren’t members of the LGBT community despite clearly fulfilling the T position. The t stands for trans, kids, not technology. I think it’s because they feel you have to experience same sex attraction in order to “belong” which is not true. If you aren’t cishet— and yes, this includes asexual and aromantic— you belong in the community. Of course, with the only notable exceptions being pedophiles. Since they keep trying that wack shit.
Oh, yes, this does mean I’m accepting of people with neopronouns and microgenders. Who am I to tell you how you’re feeling? You don’t define trans for me and I certainly won’t for you. I think they belong. You don’t have to, I’ll do all the accepting on your behalf.
Lup’s transness is both clearly defined and reiterated by both Griffin and Justin AND the fandom. She is widely regarded as a LGBT icon and it is not ignorable, not in this fandom. I’d like to see some exclusionist day Lup isn’t LGBT in this fandom, I really do. Straight trans people *do* belong. Straightness is not the antithesis to being queer, it does not automatically exclude you from queerdom.

I have no memory of writing this, and it feels weird and discomforting to read it. I did go back to the Adventure Zone - I did get caught up. I liked the ending of Balance a lot, although neither Barry nor Lup every grew on me, and I never got the hype. Amnesty proved to be even better than Balance, and while the other follows-up had their good and negatives I am finding Steeplechase the strongest entry since Amnesty - and I don't think it a coincidence that once again stepping away from D&D 5e has proved the impetus for telling a better story than the McElroys.
I stopped listing to all the podcasts I named above - they petered out, or the people I like left, or I just found the emerging level of bitterness among the hosts to be tedious and eye-rolling to listen to. (Ironically, it was one of the hosts going off on a bizarre rant about the evils of Travis McElroy that had me bailing— this was during the predicable McElroys Are Cringe Actually backlash period that was, like all cringe backlashes, stupid, mean-spirited, and asinine. If I ever get kind of bitter myself about the Critical Role crew it's because they seem to have dodged that particular bullet so completely that their fanbase never had to be diminished by such idiocy, never had to be apologetic or defensive or feeling like they were fighting a retreating action into obscurity. Critical Role—through no fault of the cast— have really ended-up sucking up so much oxygen out of fandom spaces that sometimes you just get snippy about it. There's other live-play podcasts out there, actually, great ones who might not have the star power of famous voice actors but who still deserve attention and admiration and fame. So it's funny reading this because TAZ was the only podcast of the bunch that I still listen to at all. Suffering Game did suck ass, though. I stand by that statement.
I’m catching up on The Adventure Zone and the Barry Bluejeans revealed honestly sucked out most of the enjoyment I’m having with that show.
Like that’s what you’ve been waiting for two years to do and you never thought to try for anything better then that?

Ugh. I hate when people complain about representation being just 'shoehorned in' because 'it doesn't actually do anything for the narrative'. Like, freaking shut up? Can't you let diverse characters exist?? Our identities aren't just tools to push your story forwards, they don't need a reason to be implemented, just like you don't need a reason for your character to have blond hair or a thin body or great social skills. Just.... shut up.
//This is not about cases like... j.k. Rowling with the whole Dumbledore is gay stuff or anything, I was mainly thinking of TAZ and it's representation, and how some people said Lup shouldn't have been confirmed trans because they didn't have in character scenes where they discussed it or it wasn't used for drama or anything and she was instead allowed to just... live. Like, Lup is a lovable trans badass, give us more badass and lovable diverse characters who's stories don't revolve around their identities, please....

guys i’m so tired please stop making the LGBT+ characters in TAZ hypersexual. please. especially Lup. trans women are already so goddamn hypersexualized and turned into fetishes. please stop making every LGBT character very sexualized and flamboyant. Taako flirted once. He likes fashion. he wore a skirt once and it wasn’t made a big deal. you guys draw him like he’s a cis woman and it makes me wonder if some of you guys are just uncomfortable with kravitz and taako both being guys. this goes all the way back to the “girl in the relationship” shit gay men already have to deal with. Please stop drawing Lup in Taako in high pigtails, crop tops, and super revealing shorts. please. I’m so tired.

it makes me so sad to read taz posts saying that the stolen century is their least favourite arc to the point of saying it’s pointless and lets the podcast down as it’s more serious and narrative because it’s my favourite by FAR i adore it so much and it gave the podcast such a breath of fresh air and really let the boys flesh out their characters and let us truly fall in love with all them and griffin’s amazing world (also i’m such a massive sucker for the found family trope and 7 people stuck for a 100 years in a time loop that makes them trust and love each other more than literally anything else in the universe that ultimately is the thing to destroy the villain? sign me the fuck up!)
#the stolen century is so genuinely good storytelling and gameplay i think about it all the time#its where i went from this podcast is AMAZING to this story may be one of the best worldbuildings ive ever experienced#APPRECIATE IT OR DIE BY MY SWORD#taz#the adventure zone#.txt#taz spoilers#taz balance#the adventure zone: balance#sorry for the rant its late and i love the seven bird sm :..((#and can i just add that the introduction of lup? Ugh they're playing some cheesy ass rotation of awful love songs at work today. Gag me.
So right now that song 'Just the way you are' by Bruno Mars is on and I hate the shit out of this song. It's supposed to be romantic but it just chaps my ass. Why? Well the chorus is 'you're amazing just the way you are, there's not a thing I would change...' Awww right? Nah. Every fucking verse he goes on about how fucking beautiful and gorgeous this chick is. Her hair falls perfectly. Her smile is so radiant the whole fucking world stops and stares. She's so sexy. Oh WOW YOU WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING ABOUT HER SUPERMODEL APPEARANCE? COLOR ME GODDAMN SHOCKED HERE.
Maybe if he said shit like 'she's got some zits, she's chubby, her teeth are crooked, her hair is greasy sometimes, her morning breath probably caused the extinction of the dinosaurs'.... But I still think she's amazing and beautiful just how she is? Yeah maybe I'd swallow your goddamn bullshit, Bruno.
