Next one, Decided to use lil Clover for this, so it's more of a flashback. Gave him a penguin plushie because his BF (in current timeline) likes them. Also no, the penguin wasn't the nightmare; its a completely different dream/flashback to his early childhood that freaked him out, a memory of something that happened to him before he was taken in by Angus.

(I probs won't do all of these from the post as some of the concepts I didn't really find that interesting, but I'll do at least the ones I liked.)

(Oh also also. If anyone wonders about Angus' eyes; he has some distant dragonic heritage, and because his powers allow for a level of shapeshifting, he was born with an extra pair of dragon eyes with heat vision. They are basically a mutation caused by the small amount of dragonic genetics mixing with his magic power type)

Angus looks a bit too beefy in this, but by the time I realized it, I was almost done and didn't feel like trying to fix it lol

The Heart Pirates were the perfect foil to their stoic captain. While he seldom participated in the rituals which only strengthened their camaraderie ( drinking, partying, and general merrymaking ), the surgeon never strayed too far from any festivities. Treatment for their latest patient was an arduous task, but after this extensive care, he was satisfied with relaying a clean bill of health to her. There was not much he could do to mitigate the disease from destroying the pigment in her hair, though . . . he would be lying if he said he did not find the change to be rather striking. Perhaps it would be a renaissance for her . . . though he knew nothing of her life prior to treatment. Maybe nothing would change but her hair. What would come next for her? He could not just dump her in the middle of the ocean. She was a Devil Fruit user . . . and not just any Devil Fruit user. She consumed the very same fruit that Corazon did. Thumbs surfed over the skin of his knuckles as he sat mulling over his options. While the crew celebrated Lumi's recovery, he stationed himself closest to the door. It was not until he heard a laugh that he was ripped from his thoughts. It certainly was not Bepo's ( adorable ) guffaw, and it did not fit Shachi or Penguin. Ikkaku tended to snort when she had her little giggle fits, so she was out of the running, too. To slake his curiosity, the surgeon lifted his head toward the source. That was Lumi? After a moment of stillness, surprise relinquished its seize on his frame, allowing him to melt back into his previous position. A smile towed along, slowly spreading from cheek to cheek. It certainly sounded like she was feeling better.

"The Historians are in charge of reciting and retelling the story of our subspecies to those that visit Windwall. That are a bit dramatic with it all if you ask me, but their services are what many come to town for. Many of the funds they make from their job go back into the community and help pay for the Guiding Lights supplies." She looks down at her lantern as she continues, "We are grateful for their service to the community." She looks back at you the tone of her voice uninterested. " If you want to know more about them im sure they would love to tell you all about themselves. You can find them by the base of the great wall in the center of town, I think Lumi is on today and should be able to answer any questions you have about the Historians, or the town."

As it's penguin awareness day, I have to share my beloved dnd character Lumi again 😀 She's a college of swords bard, a little badass and a lot of chaos. This was her at level 1, we're level 6 now and we've lost count of the times she's been eaten, blown up, or almost died some other way 😀

It frequently gives our druid heart palpitations, poor woman!

She's brought to life here by the very talented @smallnico who was a dream to work with and someone I'd commission again in a heartbeat 😀

Mind you, this was her at level 1. She's now level 5, one of her eyes is silver due to healing magic and she just lost her right foot so she's got a little pegleg for now 😭❤ She also changed her class from rogue to bard and she's adorably kinda maybe flirting with one of the other PCs in our campaign.

Hotel Coppelia by Jose Maria Cabral ###-1/2

As I screened Hotel Coppelia at this year’s festival, I was rather taken aback by how little I knew about the history behind the Dominican Republic and the US involvement/engagement/disruption of the island country. It is 1965 as the film commences and the ladies of the bordello and hotel, Coppelia, attend to their clientele with razor sharp precision and beguiling ways that aim to keep a roaring crowd coming back to fill the coffers, run by the icy and fierce bish, Judith (Lumi Lizardo). While the film mostly follows young server/performer Gloria, played with mild perfection by actress Nashla Bogaert, it’s the intermingling of the ladies at the brothel that aids in building an emotional response to the characters rather quickly. And when the US army invades the coastal town and ensconce themselves within the confines of the hotel to “fight the communists,” we see yet another heinous example of why so many despise the guise with which the US army lies with it appearance of helping by taking with force. This, incidentally, is exactly how every modern power on Earth has taken their stance to get to whatever they perceive they are. Hotel Coppelia, and a new student I’m teaching, has made my new history study a waltz around this incredible island, rumoured to be where Columbus actually landed as his furthest Northern reach. Lovely and necessary film…

Penguin Bloom by Glendyn Ivin ###-1/2

Not knowing what to expect with an Aussie film with the word ‘penguin’ in it, I was mostly moved to screen it because who doesn’t dig Naomi Watts? But what a lovely if heartbreaking tale of truth turned celluloid treasure with this unexpected, wee gem of a film. Oscar-nominated actress Watts plays Sam Bloom, a mum vacationing with her family in Thailand when a terrible accident leaves her paralysed from the waist down. Feeling like a burden to her husband (Andrew Lincoln) and her kids, when one of them rescues a little magpie chick and the parents decide the kiddos can keep it, what ends up happening is a bond between the depressed, defeated mother and the little bird with a broken limb. You can probably imagine what happens but the easy nature of this true tale leaves you feeling grateful, happy with perhaps a few tears of joy rolling down your lovely cheeks.

Wild Mountain Thyme by John Patrick Shanley ##

I really can’t begin to explain how much I couldn’t believe I was watching Emily Blunt cop to an attempt at an Irish accent in this blasé, Nicholas Sparks-style romance. Starring Blunt and Christian Grey-typecast character actor Jamie Dornan, this film tells the story of the selling-off of an Irish family’s farm to a wealthy US-American nephew (read: the asshole and he is Jon Hamm...yum yum) instead of the family’s son (Dornan). What I also found most odd was watching Christopher Walken try and feign being an Irish patriarch. Could we not cull together Colm Meaney or Brendan Gleeson or ANY wonderful Irish actor above 65 to play this role? At one point around the middle juncture of the film, I actually found myself counting cliches of too many modern romance dramedies, and I eventually became perplexed as to how this was greenlit in the first place for production and why Blunt and Dornan would have signed up for this trite shite…absolutely no idea.

Blithe Spirit by Edward Hall ##

Part of the comedy lineup at this year’s BCN Film Festival, Blithe Spirit is based upon the like-titled 1941 comical play by Noel Coward. Screening the film on a smaller room at Cines Verdi BCN, I really did find it strange that top actors’ actors like Judi Dench and Isla Fisher would sign up for what turned out to be a sad sap of a film. Telling the story of Charles (Dan Stevens) who’s a wealthy writer embroiled in a bad case of writer’s block who takes his wife (Fisher) to see a medium (Dench), whose performance goes madly awry and so Charles decides to commission the older medium to perform a session in his home, but this seems to summon Charles ex-wife (played beyond annoyingly so by Leslie Mann). Jokes that fail, overacting and weak scripting made this particular comedy a dud on arrival.

Last Call by Steven Bernstein ##

This film marks a moment when an accomplished cinematographer finally brings a long-desired project to fruition and onto screens. Director Bernstein has been working behind the scenes for over 35 years on innumerable movies, but he actually released an unfinished draft of this film entitled Dominion and also starring Rhys Ifans and John Malkovich back in 2016. With Last Call, a full-length feature film starring the aforementioned actors come together to tell the story of the final hours of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas’ final day. It’s a grim day where he downs eighteen shots, chats up a myriad of people, who may or may not be there, and that is until the seizure that eventually brought about his death. What Bernstein serves up however is a choppy story with certain scenes that throw continuity to the wind, but you can tell the director is a true fan of the poet and desired to create a testament to the man for whose name ‘Bob Dylan’ was transformed from Robert Zimmerman. Alas, no wannabe deep conversations or great actors can save this MEH! piece…sorry!

MapleStory Update: The Third Augury was surprisingly easy to obtain, just kill a bunch of bats in the subway. The quests to get to the Fourth Augury up in Rien were actually really damn endearing by the end, especially because the NPCs were all penguins, seals, and arctic wolves. That being said, got past level 60, which means class change and new Light/Dark skills, plus fucking Doom Scythe, which I spammed the shit out of during the boss because I just so happened to have it active going in. Currently in Perion about to start getting the fifth and final Augury.

Also, have I mentioned that In-Story Lumi is so dramatic and I love it?

Elsword Update: Just more Feita storyline with Elsword, not much else. Rip Aisha in-story for getting hit with the Mana Eaters.

So, technically his bio still needs one more part, namely his dog. However I REALLY wanted to tick off his bio from my to-do list today, so I'll add the dog here later. (I haven't decided on which suggested breed to go for yet)

Thank you @spokelseskladden for helping me with the name stuff and the dog! And ofc, the whole penguin thing with him was originally an idea by my friend @mad-hatter-rici that I chose to keep for his new incarnation.

Also, in his case I can say that he is meant to be specifically Norwegian, though not from our world's Norway. (Typically my characters aren't from actual IRL countries or places, but this story has at least a version of it) I initially planned on giving him a more of a common surname, but then I saw this one and just...c'mon he's a fictional character, I had to give him something a bit more special lmao

Age: 22

Family: Family lives elsewhere in a larger city, an uncle who owns the cabin he lives in currently. (not named rn as I probably won't have them appear much, so their appearance or name isn't relevant)

Friends: Araknos family, Any friend of Clover in general, his classmates in general...he's a friendly guy. His bestie is his dog, Alva

Love interest: Clover Belmont, a witchboy from Mirror World, a paraller reality to the human world

Occupation: Grocery store clerk/Wilderness guide student at vocational college/housekeeper for his uncle's cabin

He's just a human, just some guy, just that one sweet dude that's a lil weird and seems to believe in fairies.

Abilities:

He's good at surviving in the wilderness both summer and winter, as he's essentially grown up spending most of his time outdoors. He can recognize edible/poisonous plants and mushrooms, how to build an emergency hut, first aid, good crafting skills for makeshift tools etc.

He's an excellent cook and knows how to take anyone's food preferences/needs into accordance.

He's a very good fisherman (or just patient enough lol)

Due to his lifestyle, Henrik is fairly strong physically and has good stamina

Magic tattoo; he can communicate with Clover with his tattoo, and they can tell each other's moods and if one needs help through it. He can also use the tattoo to contact either its maker (Jurou) or Clover's adoptive father if he senses Clover is in trouble.

He has a surprisingly strong danger sense and can tell if something is off either in his surroundings, or with a person. He can just pick up on someone's "bad vibes" pretty much.

Personality:

Henrik is very sweet, hospitable and friendly guy, who is willing to help people in need. He's a bit naive too and easy to trick, but chooses to still have faith in people and believe in them - unless they very obviously show to him they're bad. he approached people with good faith, but once you fuck up, you do need to prove yourself as he won't forgive that easily depending on what was done.

He has almost childlike curiosity towards everything, and even if he doesn't necessarily understand topics, he enjoys listening to people who do. He genuinely always tries to understand it, but even if he doesn't, he won't beat himself up too bad, or pretend he does.

He can be a bit oblivious and sometimes forget things, like switching out of pajamas when leaving his home. His dog Alva often has to bring him stuff he forgets, or otherwise remind him of things. Sometimes she even drags him out of bed when he's being lazy.

Weaknesses:

Dude's a human in a world of mythical creatures, monsters, demons and witches, he's pretty weak and fragile in grand scheme of things.

His seemingly gullible nature makes him easy to trick with more harmless things; if someone dangerous tries to manipulate him, he tends to pick up on that. But pulling a prank on him and hiding his slippers or putting a kick-me note on his back? Easy peasy.

He tends to overestimate himself and gets hurt a lot, such as what happened with the bear spirit. The main reason he doesn't have more scars yet, is thanks to his magic friends healing away most of them.

The scar he has does sometimes ache, and on worse days can force him to be bedridden the whole day with pain and nausea.

Fun Facts

His dog Alva may not be an entirely average dog, but she refuses to tell her secrets even to a fellow dog, an Inugami (Japanese dog spirit) called Raitei

Henrik enjoys carving and painting small wooden animals on his free time, and he tends to make a lot of penguins and dogs.

Penguins are his favorite animals, and he'd love to travel to a place that has them in nature someday. His love for them comes from being given a penguin plushtoy as a kid by his grandma, shortly before she died. it's been his inseparable friend since then, and he named it Sven. (He still has Sven to this day)

Henrik has learned some Japanese from Clover, who, while living in the mirror world, is technically of Japanese origin so his native language is Japanese.

Mostly he communicates with Clover and others through the natural effect of Mirror World, where it allows everyone to understand each other's languages. This effect became applicable on him only after he got his tattoo; before that they both spoke English as it was the only common language they shared. (Clover also speaks German and French, as his adoptive dad speaks those alongside English)

He has taught Clover some words in Norwegian, mainly curses because he asked lol

Due to Clover's condition, typically when he visits he makes sure to have some of his special food enhancement dust with him, so he'll be able to get full from Henrik's cooking properly.

Henrik is pan

He likes dyeing his hair split-colored; the blond is his natural shade. He mostly goes for natural-ish shades for the dye job, like browns or blacks or coppery reds.

if fully open, he does have slightly long front bangs. He tends to only open his braids when he needs to really wash his hair properly though. (or when reapplying the dye)

many of his classmates have had crushes on him, and they are aware that he supposedly has a long-distance relationship with a Japanese person. (some doubt it'll last, others are more curious)

Despite being introduced with lot of powerful and scary magic things, Henrik is still very open-minded about it all and likes to learn more. It doesn't mean he's not scared of Clover's world, but he loves it despite his fears, as human world can be terrible as well.

He lost his tooth and got the scar on a hiking incident some years back, where he fell and hit his face against a rock.

The bear spirit thing happened during the second ever visit Clover did. In the end Clover's adoptive parent Angus had to deal with it and help save him. The scar was too severe to be fully healed, but most of the time it doesn't have any impact on his life; it starts causing pains and nausea only occasionally, due to being magical origin.

He chose to live in the cabin instead of an apartment, as he wanted to be close to nature while studying, and its not that far from his small college anyway. It even has internet!

This lad was the first non vital NPC I made for the TTRPG, He holds a special place in my heart because of that.

When he was a child Lumi grew up in a poor family that never really had enough money to go around leaving him hungry and cold most nights. Because of this he often could be found wandering the streets of Windwall trying to find any scrap of food to feed himself be it from the trash or nicking something off a closed food stall. 

When Lumi was 5 his older sister died due to 'natural causes' (although everyone knew it was starvation and just wouldn't talk about it). Once she had passed there was finally enough money in the family to properly feed everyone, Lumi was always still a bit hungry, but there wasn't as big of a struggle to find enough food to survive anymore. He was sad that she died, but also deep down he was relieved that he could finally have his needs met. These two feelings have always been at odds inside of him making him feel gross for being happy that his sister died.

As he grew up and became old enough to get a job he decided that he was going to get the best paying job in the city so he would never again have to live in fear of not having enough to eat. So without hesitation, he signed up to be an apprentice to one of the many towns Historians. 

When he was a little chick he recalled he would see the historians always in the finest dress and able to spend money in all the  high-end restaurant, eating only the fanciest of meals, so he was sure that becoming one of the historians would allow him to achieve his life goal of never being hungry again.

As he learned their stories and accepted their teachings he soon found that he had a knack for reciting them in an entertaining way. He quickly found himself making a decent living telling tourists Emperor Penguin’s stories and entertaining them. Although he had finally started to live his dream, he kept finding himself unsatisfied and wanting more.

His dream quickly transformed from just wanting enough to eat to wanting enough to eat out at fancy restaurants every day and then to having his own butler who would cook him the most exotic dishes. His humble job was no longer enough to keep him happy, he wanted more. So he set his eyes on one day becoming one of the higher up historians, and this is where he is at to this day.

He works hard and tries to make as many 'sales' as possible in the hopes that one day he will be able to afford anything and everything he has ever wanted. To have the finest of food and finally be able to have the things he had longed for but was unable to have as a child.

Although many would call him a bit snobby when it comes to food and fine clothing, it is nearly impossible for him to turn his beak up at starving Animalian, especially children. If he spots anyone that is particularly thin and suffering he will buy food and cause someone else to give it to the starving Animalian so as to remain anonymous. 

He doesn't want praise or any form of recognition for doing it as he is afraid that if he is seen with 'lower' Animalian then he may never be able to achieve a higher rank as he may be considered by others to be dirty. However he can't stand seeing others starve as he can see his sister eyes within theirs. (whether or not he would actually be judged for helping starving Animalian may or may not actually be a thing and is more in his head then an actual fact)

And to this I say, yes. Yes it is a penguin with an ice cube on its head. Farfetch’d is a weird duck defined by a leek. Pidgey is... a bird. Spearow is also a bird. Pidove is a pigeon. And Eiscue... is a penguin with an icecube head.

Such is our legacy.
