So i’m re reading older choices books and I really miss old choices. Some of the new books are good but the older books have me laughing my ass off. The Royal Romance especially

It has been so long since I've actually been on the choices app and involved in the fandom that all the new books is slightly overwhelming! Anyone (especially if you were around during the choices golden age in 2019!) have any recs?

Hoping to get back into the app with some replays (as I say once a year atp lmao) but I am also interested this time in reading some of the newer stuff! Execpt theres so much new that I dont know about and knowing that the app has gone slightly downhill since I was last properly active here I have no clue where to start!

Im a big lover of the elementalists and also loved desire and decorum, the royal romance (never finished heir), it lives in the woods/beneath, open heart, love hacks and rules of engagement.

(Edit to add that I love veil of secrets too! Can't believe I forgot to add it to my original list!)

I also enjoyed bloodbound but I still havent read past book 2. I was interested in reading perfect match and ride or die before I stopped playing the game as much!

Im really hoping that this post reaches some people, I would really love to get some book recs and also to reconnect with this community!

I'm reading various stories for diamonds to unlock choices in games, and I only just got around to playing the love hacks games. I honestly gotta say you can tell just how much the writing has changed between 2016 and 2020-current with slice of life books.

Love hacks feels like it actually cares about the characters it's telling stories about, all of the romance options are endearing and the friend group being given screen time outside of our MC means that we get to see their lives playout in a way that feels more natural than the typical choices story where only the MC can give people happy endings.

I love that we get to see the friends find relationships outside of each other and even get spotlights on how some of them met for the player to run through. There are also moments where I fully expected a diamond scene to pop up only for it to play out fine.

I also kind of like the more painter like look to the faces than what we have for recent books. They have personality to them.

In general it's a cute duology that was clearly made out of love and outside of just getting diamonds I genuinely wanted to see where the story went. Would recommend.

So Love Hacks has had scenes added to it since the last time I played (which was probably 2021ish). It doesn’t really surprise me, they have gone back and added scenes to a lot of older books (even books like AME).

i have a question: why do men friendzone themselves?

and i do mean this literally: i have a girl friend, shes pretty, shes smart, she has a boyfriend, all is good. then she meets a random man in a library. he is 7 to 10 years older than him, he interrupts her doing her normal research stuff to chat with her, he asks to stay in contact. she gives her email address - he adds her on facebook. she lets him know she has a bf - he has a tantrum because they have no photos on fb together. he keeps talking to her and hinting they should meet up, that he wants to vome to her, or that he will be free when she visits over there.

he is also not interested in women his age. had one date with a woman his age and decided nah.

he is also "interested in photography" meaning has a camera and knows the big button on ut, but his photos really do not seem any more interesting than that of literally any other man claiming the same, or, you know, a random photo of my spaghetti with the mayfair filter on it.

he decided to photograph a pride event where he noted "a really pretty queer girl, too bad she has a girlfriend".

some part of me would think he may be autistic and not picking up on her hinting she wanted to be left alone - but being autistic is not an excuse for being a creep. or, even if not a creep, unreasonably clingy to a literal stranger.

and of course, there is the "but why did she add him back?: "why does she keep responding?" "why doesn't she block him?": they are both in academic circles in the same broader region, and he has more experience/prestige/brownie points. she is still a grad student. she is scared he would be able to influence /derail her academic career. he has already expressed interest in her resrarch topic - in a way that i, a non academic, got scared he would want to steal it somehow.

also, dear boy: if you have read this and recognise your words, actions, or situations: please stop annoying my friend. stop messaging her. stop trying to hang out. she has a boyfriend, she has her plans which you are not and will not be a part of, and she is so done with you. "but what have i done?" you are bothering her. she does not want your company. stahp.

Green Lantern hovered in the doorway of the med bay. He’d been summoned, but he had no idea what for.

“You know, spooky, some of us have lives to get back to. Not everyone can exist off of just work and blood or whatever,” Hal poked fun at Batman, who rubbed at his jaw tiredly. Hal blinked, stamping down the guilt that arose at Batsy’s uncharacteristic show of any emotion other than stone cold rationality or exasperation or anger. At least they’ve moved past grunts. That just lends credence to Hal’s theory of Batman being an immortal, like Vandal Savage. Batman could totally pass for a caveman, he’s got the grunts down, for sure.

“Still not a vampire. We found the Ghost King. The one the GIW was trying to hide in their records.”

“Well, shit.” Hal’s expression flattened, remembering the unsanctioned government branch that violated the Meta Rights act to a degree where even Amanda Waller had washed her hands of them. Bats had found evidence that they were experimenting on a child when a “source” had hacked into the base and begged them to find the child. Phantom, the hacker had claimed, who had managed to destroy the portal to the Infinite Realms

Batman had tried to boot the guy out of the system, until the hacker told them Phantom was the King of the Infinite Realms.

That got Constantine terrified, which urged Batman into a full hunting mode to track down the king. Mostly in part because Constantine said something along the lines of, “If the King dies, the Infinite Realms will wage war and decimate us. And considering they’re the realm of the dead, we’d lose so badly, even the demons won’t help us out for our bloody souls.”

Granted, he didn’t have that terrible British accent Hal attached to his voice every time the Green Lantern thought about the sad trench coat wizard, but the point still stood.

“He’s not fully conscious due to… his injuries, but the moments where he was, he reacted best to the color green.”

Hal did not want to know what kind of creepy stalker things Batman did to get that knowledge.

“Oh, great. You called me because I’m green,” he said to Batman as he floated into the med bay. “I can be green. I’m amazing at being green.”

Even with the sarcastic tone, Hal made sure to up his lantern aura, glowing a bright neon green. It wouldn’t do to help start a war if he wasn’t green enough.

Hal looked at the Ghost King, and yeah, he could see why Bats was so off his stoic face game today. Because the Ghost King looked like a teenager, and Bats is a bleeding heart and everyone knows it.

Hal waved away Batman, “Go back to Gotham and drink your true blood or whatever. You look like you’ve seen the sun too much.”

Translation: go home, you look tired.

Batman nodded, in thanks, and left to sleep (probably. Hal has never caught the man doing something so… plebeian). Hal is left playing babysitter. To an inter dimensional being that could- probably more like “would,” considering the live dissection he went through at the hands of humans- destroy their entire planet and/or universe. Another Tuesday for the Justice League.

my dark link thoughts coalesced into wonderful headcanons and crazy amounts of forced perspectives and dutch angles

Some thoughts below

I have thoughts about dark link that boil down to basically two things: 1. it's always the same dark link, and 2. dark link has a very difficult time changing.

No matter how many times dark link is brought into existence, he is formed from the shadow of link usually to test link's will. that shadow can be duplicated (as seen in HW) but generally speaking it's the same guy, sharing the thought space, you know how it is. In terms of sentience/thinking for himself, I don't think there's all that much of it. He is a dark reflection/shadow of link, so shares his abilities and thought patterns (for combat) with added aggression and. evil. i guess.

As said by navi, "conquer yourself", and all that. He's a challenge to the inner will power.

That being said!!! he can have a little bit of individuality, as a treat. Just in the form of being mean and sadistic <3 he's got thoughts, he's not just a combat doll (tho in times of low power, or a greater power having the reins, he reverts to that), so he can be frustrated, vindicated, happy, etc etc. though when your thoughts are mainly "evilevilevilevilevil" your idea of these emotions are a bit skewed.

When he's summoned for each different link, i hc that it's all the same magic, so the same dark link every time. he "remembers" in an abstract sense of his role in the same way a link or zelda "remembers" their own reincarnation. tho his is less of a reincarnation and more being used over and over again. a persistence.

The iteration that's summoned reflects the current link at the time, the part of link that needs testing/defeating, so it's not an existence that he himself can change to match the present. he's locked to that first copy/shadow only. So if he were to have a second encounter with an older link, he'd look like the first time they fought, unless he was specifically re-summoned. i hc he's got limited magic, so this is not something he can do himself.

in a links-meet scenario, his form would be limited to those specific forms of the links, and it would always be the points in time in which he first encountered them, unless there's other magic either he or someone else has access to to allow him to change forms to match.

now you might be saying at this point "wouldn't he be a weaker match if he was put up against an older link?" yeah probably lol. but also!!! i like the idea that with the limited magic he has, he's able to change juuuust enough to stay relatively evenly matched. being able to play to different strengths and all that. but the base stuff is still the same, so he is decently easy enough to read if link remembers the kind of stuff he was pulling back when he originally fought dark link.

dark link also knows about all this so while limited to the particular skillset, is able to adapt slightly.

but yeah been thinking a lot about a links-meet au where dark link is there choosing a different link to be every time he appears to the party.

though there are a couple links that he never impersonates in their games!!! so can't change into those guys unless he gets a new round of copycat magic.
