The next chapter of my BG3 post-game fic, Lost Souls Like Us is now up. In this chapter, a visit with her father and brother goes badly for Petra, and she goes to Jaheira's house to reminisce about the past.
Astarion goes to the cupboard and pulls out a bottle of wine and pours them each a glass. “It makes you unwell,” she stammers.
“I’ll be fine,” he says, taking a sip before she can protest further. He makes a face. “Vinegar.”
She takes a sip and finds it’s a perfectly inoffensive wine, and realizes that his sense of taste must be an utter disaster.
“Am I a burden to you, Astarion?” she asks him softly, because she doesn’t want to be his burden or anyone else’s. If her company causes difficulties, then she can leave. Maybe�� go back on the road and do some travelling.
“Gods no!” he spits out venomously. “Shall we take a drunken stroll to your father’s house after dark? Have a friendly chat about the meaning of friendship and family?”
With Astarion, there’s no doubt this chat would be anything but friendly; that the man would verbally strip Father and whip him raw. And that’s if he’s feeling compassionate - if he’s not, Father would leave that chat half-dead and bleeding unless she asked Astarion to stop.
“I was lonely,” Astarion says, swirling his glass instead of drinking from it. “I’ll deny it if you ever ask me to admit it again, but your company is… appreciated. I’ve been living again since the tadpoling, but there’s living, and then there’s… experiencing all life offers. I may be limited to the night, but with you I’m having fun again. And,” he gives her a wry smile, “travelling with our merry band of lunatics was excellent fun. Not just because of the constant murder, either.”
Wow - what a confession from him.
“Don’t go spreading that around, you understand.”

LOST: Season One
#lost#abc lost#lost one cap per ep#this was a project i was gonna do anyways but the timing worked out that i could post the first one on the 20th anniversary!#this is one cap per ep every season. from left to right. and this is important: its not a cap that sums up each ep#its a cap that REPRESENTS each ep. the way i choose them varies every episode#sometimes its an utterly iconic moment. sometimes it reps the theme of the ep. or it hits with a theme of the character themselves#sometimes the cap i use won't even involve the character whose centric episode it is. trust me. this makes sense#anyways i'll give a good example: for outlaws i was so tempted to use a shot of the judgemental soulful gaze of the boar#or perhaps sawyer in the rain after he shot that man#but! i used that shot of sawyer's dads legs as sawyer is hiding under the bed. i feel it worthy because this moment. this scene#is literally a core part of sawyer. it's a defining moment of his backstory. of his character. so yeah. makes sense yeah?#anyways some eps had Too Much going on (lord i could make one of these for exodus part 1 alone) and some not enough#or well they DID but like lacked in caps that Hit in the way im thinking. thank heavens charlie shot ethan cuz i was worried about that ep#i was like ''aw shit what am i gonna use'' and then an iconic lost moment happened kjhfdsjkhfd#anyways. there are 25 eps in season one. so im really glad that the last ep contains one of the moment iconic visuals/moments in all of los#oh i should add that these caps are unedited. i did not fuck with the colours or saturation in any way#i found 'em and i pieced them together. this is harder than it sounds. i browsed through all the screencaps of every ep of season one#and i will do so the remaining five seasons#some of these were super easy like i knew what cap i'd be using before i even started (eg. do no harm. the moth. in translation)#but some took some real Thinking. and some eps even had several caps that would have worked. this has all been quite interesting#also yeah. y'all already know damn well what cap i'm using for the very last episode

#positivity#pro aging#also i hate you 'anti aging' scams that capitalize on fear of aging. death by 1000000 papercuts for ye#saw a hair video where they restored the salt-and-pepper colour in an older clients hair and it looked SO GOOD at the end#i love when people throw in the towel and embrace their aging however that looks#it isn't productive to shame people who are ashamed of aging and i just want to. celebrate aging#in a world that simultaneously venerates youth and adulthood and hates BOTH you need to find some sense of freedom#as a Young Adult(tm) please please PLEASE older folks seeing this/following me know that i look up to you#older folks i need you to know that your worth NEVER diminished when you added a new number on your birthday cake#and your body and mind and soul NEVER lost worth because it started to creak a little at the joints#and i might be wrong about this because i'm still young but it can be SO tempted to miss your youth when you feel like...#...you've somehow LOST part of yourself by growing older. and so much of aging is about change and some things don't stay the same...#...and that IS scary and i will never once fault somebody for that. but please don't fall into the trap that because you've aged that...#...you somehow have forever lost fundamental pieces of Who You Are and you could never come back from that...#...for your own sake and sanity you deserve to find comfort and solice and understanding in who you still are...#...because you are still - at the core - the same. you can never take this away from yourself#and i know this might ring hollow because i just don't get what it's like to be older#but i have looked at my elders and felt awe at their age and their experiences#and i know what that is like and it's awesome. i just wish more older people knew that so many of us look at you with awe...#...and - if you can believe it - some of us ENVY your age or experiences or even body#i'm watching an 'older' content creator (older by internet standards 🙄) and i envy him for how eventful his life was#i envy that he experienced a different world - one that i have only heard about from my dad because i was too young to remember it#and i admire this person for their wisdom and thoughts because they've come from his experiences living in a Different World#it's that type of stuff that makes me unafraid to keep on living#inspired by following somebody like. twice my age posting about their excitement abiut growing older and !!!!!!! she is based on the story/universe that my friend @haydardotjpg's OCs indra and yuwei exist in! pls go checkout haydar's art he is amazing!! his ocs can be found more easily on his ig but if you're lazy this is his oc indra (cempaka's one-sided love interest) and yuwei (indra's fated lover)
also, cempaka means "magnolia" in malay!! (she gets a flower name bc my name is lilly which is also flower c:)

i accidentally had "poinsettia" flower in mind when i did this iteration instead of an actual magnolia, hence the color scheme. but yeah, this is as self-insert as it gets LOL like she's literally MEEEEEE but still very different and i love her as she is <3

The next chapter of Lost Souls Like Us is up! Astarion clashes with Petra's grandfather, and sits by Petra's bedside, doing what little he can to care for her.
With Halsin out of the room, he settles in the chair beside Petra’s bed, ignoring Berrin’s glares. The man has met Petra once; he doesn’t get to claim the spot beside her bed. “Looks like you and I are going to be friends,” he says sarcastically to Berrin, who opts to stand tall, staring at the bed Petra is now lying on. “Leaving you alive was another of my granddaughter’s mistakes,” Berrin says, making him laugh at the sheer absurdity of the situation. Berrin is almost as likeable as he is! “She would disagree.” “And as we’ve established, she has the judgement of a child denied her favourite toy.” He forces himself to ignore the man and searches his bag for a strip of leather, and once he’s found something appropriate, he divides her bright purple hair into three sections and begins braiding. As he does, he can feel the burn of the other man’s glare.

Like the way he wears his clothes or holds his body#I'm always a sucker for that style of turtleneck as well haha ♫#Perhaps his turtleneck keeps the smoke in chest from escaping longer :0 Yet another reason to wear them!#Shot of the little family before things went Completely terrible - before the plates and all that#I'm rather pleased with his hand pose there actually :) Keep an eye on your kids Gaster you've only got the one eye to do so!#And then some silly ones lol - I am desperately curious if animated skeletons would have a hyoid bone#It's not as though hyoid bones are specific to humans! They're just A Type Of Bone! Surely skeletons would have All their bones right?#But in the human skeleton it's not resting against another bone it's just floating there tethered by muscle and sinew#Would it float? Would it rest inside the lower jaw? Would it attach to the neck vertebrae??#It'd probably get caught on his turtleneck a lot easier than like - getting it caught on his neck bones for example#They have a kind of fused canine-teeth-like structure as well they're like a weird set of tongue-teeth lol#It's just fun to imagine ♪ Similar to how the rest of the skeletal body like - magnetizes? to itself :)
