The Stars and the Afterlives

Starclan is the Afterlife of the Clan Cat. But what Roles might a cat have in the starry lands above? And where do non-clan cats go? Where do Traitors go?

STARCLAN

This is where every Clan cat wishes to go, a lush land of greenery and peaceful days. Where kits become the adults they were meant to be, mentored by their ancestors. Where elders shed their aches and dance in the meadows. The prey is endless, the predators nonexistent, the trees forever blooming. Honey drips where industrious stingless bees gather, and deep glens give privacy and comfort to the traumatized. Borders are gone, and those banned from relationships, either cross-clan or Healers, may find love.

Starclan cats have white four-pointed pupils, and small stars scatter in their fur. Scars they chose to keep gleam like the night sky, and they nearly float with each step. Starclan cats have four major roles, though others do exist, and any cat may change to any other role if they wish.

Star-Guide: these cats are the prophecy givers, often cryptic and mysterious. They plant signs like Herbalists plant Poppies, and divine the future in a great Crystal in a pool of starlight. Yellowfang is a Star-Guide, one that refuses to be any more cryptic than she has to.

Kit-Shaper: these cats guide the Faded, those long forgotten even by Starclan cats, into their final form - the next living generation. The Faded will fall apart into motes of light in a Sacred Glen, and Kit-Shapers will take these gleaming shapes and create kits. They fashion tiny noses and triangle tails, paint stripes and spots and patches, and set starlight in their eyes, before sending them to a laboring queen or king. Lionheart is a Kit-Shaper, spending his time molding the perfect kitten for each queen or king.

Path-finder: these cats periodically wander the living world, seeking to bring lost cats home, whether living or dead. They tirelessly search for Spirits who are missed, and often will guide lost or abandoned kits to the clans. Whiteclaw is a Path-Finder, knowing what it’s like to feel lost himself.

Comet-Claw: the Brawlers of Starclan, that patrol the line between the Stars and the Dark. Moonlit claws and sunbeam teeth savage any intruder, and rescue any living soul they may find lost. Swiftspirit is a Comet-Claw, always watching for Tiger”star”.

THE KITTYPET AFTERLIFE

Often referred to as the Twoleg Starplace, kittypets go to the same afterlife as their owners. There’s always food out, the toys are endless, and just about every twoleg wants to pet you. If their twoleg was abusive, kittypets will find a new loving twoleg to pet them and help them heal.

LONER AFTERLIFE

Referred to as the Quiet Hunting Grounds, loners go to endless fields and evening skies. The prey is plentiful, or as challenging as one wants, there’s company and shelter if one wishes, and the rolling fields and hills go on forever.

Those who chose to wander the lands of the living from these places are Spirits - they cannot touch another, save other Spirits or Star-Blessed cats. They can move items, so someone moving the prey you caught might be a mischievous Spirit.

THE DARK FOREST/MIRETREES

Where those who believed in Starclan go if they break the Code’s major rules (do not harm others needlessly, never harm the helpless, and kill not thy clanmate without true need) and do not atone in some way. It’s a dark and moonless place, with a variety of landscapes - all twisted from what they once were. The river where Rushtooth died is constantly writhing like worms, grasping at any who draw near. The clearing where Tiger”star” died is full of pain wails and the feeling of being betrayed. There is a shady Healer’s den, that’s covered in deathberries and thorny vines with yellow flowers.

Cats from The Dark are twisted and monstrous, often with bloody pelts and twisted limbs. The older a Miretree can is, the more insane the mutation. The dread One Eye, the first cat of the Dark Forest, is missing much of his face, all of his claws, and most of his guts. In comparison, Tiger”star” just has a flapping belly full of noxious dripping ooze and twoleg chains.

Those who escape the Miretrees are called Geists. They are near-universally malicious, and often haunt the place of their death. They DO have some power over the living, with their aura poisoning the spirits of the living.

For Example, the Geist Mapleshade poisoned almost the entirety of Crookedstar’s family, only sparing his brother and two of his kits. It took the Comet-Claws days to drive her back to the Mire, and having lost most of her power, she now plots vengeance.

Most of the cats I've adopted over the years have just kind of fallen into my lap

The neighbour's cat had kittens. Friend's coworker needed to rehome their cat. Same friend's coworker's son found a cat abandoned in a box on the side of a rural street. Dad's friend was trying to breed cats to sell and this one came out wrong. Fellow tumblrite caught a cat trying to eat their pet chickens.

Since late summer, I've been trying to find a kitten on and off. I had a lead through a friend but they lost contact with the kittens' owner and it fell through. Today I went to the local animal shelter and they didn't have any cats. No good leads through pet finder or Kijiji

Do you have room for a ghastly I can send over? I recently caught one that had decided to try and live in my house for some reason. I would keep it myself but it makes my raichu nervous

I unfortunately have my hands full taking care of a Cofagrigus and the occasional Misdreavus that gets lost inside one of our barns, but I can point you in the right direction. There are many shelters you can send it to, and many of them have Rotomblr accounts! Pokemon Pet Finder and Floaroma Sanctuary are the first ones that come to mind, but I'm sure there are many more. I've also heard that Kalos has a Ghost-type-only shelter you can check aswell if you happen to live nearby!

Also, if any of my followers are willing to adopt it, feel free to interact with this aswell! Hopefully it can find a forever home sooner than later.

I have come into guardianship of a tiny abandoned kitten. She lost all her litter mates, briefly had her mother's care, but then she went missing in a hoarded room. Her mother disappeared never to return, and after being presumed dead for a day and a half, a dog found her and returned her to her original finder. Still alive, still without her eyes open.

Here she is just before her disappearance.

She made it through that first difficult week and opened her eyes.

Literally hours after I took that picture with her, one of her eyes sealed shut from infection.

This ridiculous baby would not be deterred. She wants to go on adventures so badly. She managed to travel alone through a hoarded room for a day and a half while she was still deaf and blind. A little infection wasn't going to stop her.

A few days later, she woke up, opened both eyes, and decided to be a menace.

On Monday, I picked her up and took her to the vet. There isn't much you can do with such a tiny kitten. The vet tech checked with the vet about testing for parasites. They were outside of the exam room, but I heard a very tired vet respond, "I'm not going to violate a kitten."

She gave me ointment for her eyes and assured me it should be safe to have her around my adult cat at this point, so she came home with me to find out if Laszlo would let me keep her.

Laszlo is not impressed with this interloper, and he hasn't been shy about vocalizing his displeasure.

However, he hasn't been directly aggressive. He lets me talk him down, soothe him, pet him, and give him treats. He's a very good boy, and I think we'll be able to make this work.

I was never concerned about how Rhapsody would feel about all this. She loves kitties, though she isn't quite sure what to do with one so much smaller than her.

She's not getting run of the house yet, not until Laszlo adjusts and accepts, but since she wants to roam so badly, I let her have supervised time on the open futon, which is more or less neutral ground.

She found a cave bed I purchased years ago for other animals, and none of them ever cared for it. It's her safe space now.

Since it looks like I'm keeping her, I need to decide on a name. The top contenders are Astrid and Sonata.

She's finally becoming less baby and more herself, and so far she's adventurous and fearless. She loves food and isn't shy about demanding it. She's got a big purr, and she loves pets and cuddles, but doesn't much care for laps.

I love her.

All of the following items have been brought to The Overseer staff’s office for safekeeping until they are claimed. Item 1: A collection of Modigliani paintings These long-faced paintings, reproduced for commercialism in the Shopping District, were found scattered throughout Scarland. They depict various men and women in sitting poses with relatively uninterested expressions and exaggeratedly long necks.

Item 2: A beard shaving kit This kit was found in Etho’s ruins and includes a double edge safety razor, pre-shaving oil, after-shave balm, a badger brush, and a beard trimmer. This kit was taken out of a shulker box and left near Impulse’s Dwarven Keep.

Item 3: Three hotel luggage carts These luggage carts were found with several empty unused trash bags piled on them near Hypno’s base. It is unknown what the intended purpose was for these luggage carts, and they are on the brink of falling apart.

Item 4: A book about keeping iguanas This reptile pet-care book was found in Pearl’s tree house and was published in 2022. There are illustrations on each page and the book appears to have been very well-loved over the past year. The illustrations are fully colored and appear to be as detailed as humanly possible.

Item 5: A headband with three skulls This headband has three plastic skulls attached to them and is covered in glitter. The headband itself is black and the skulls are bright orange, purple, and green.

Item 6: A group of miniature pumpkin stress balls These stress balls in the shape of miniature pumpkins were found near xBCrafted’s base and have been painted with various geometric patterns using a rainbow color palette. They glow in the dark and appear to have been ordered from a very old magazine catalog.

Item 7: A cursed box This box, fused shut with an intricate golden vine pattern on the lid loop around the front, has launched its finder into a wall upon them attempting to open it. The finder suggests burying it if opening it is not possible.

(Very long work story ft. the corgi police) So I started working in a pet store this week and I know all retail jobs get you to meet interesting people but few can reach the heights of Dedicated Animal People. But my manager is the most batshit of any of them and i love her for it. She once handed her now-fiancé a pair of bull testicles that she cut off HERSELF to prove that she won against him in a cattle-raising competition. She’s a farm girl and she’s metal. And importantly for this story, she breeds corgis. And not as a hobby, as a way of life. She can pick out bad breeding just from the angle of a corgi’s hips. She makes people who buy her puppies ho through 40 PAGES of paperwork so she can sue them if they do Anything Wrong To Her Dog.

Now this guy came in today looking for a tag for “his dog.” Normal. But then he started talking about how he just kind of Found a corgi running around, the ASPCA couldn’t find a chip, no collar, the dog had been out for about 3 days, he had posted a picture on a few lost pet sites and no responses. He showed us a picture of the dog and my manager went “oh my gosh I breed corgis and that looks EXACTLY like my friend’s dog Tater. I better go call her.” So she went out and called and said her friend was actually out of town and needed to call her husband, so could she have Corgi Finder’s number just in case, and the picture of him with the dog? And meanwhile the guy started talking about how if he kept the dog and didn’t neuter it, he could stud it out once or twice. After a while of chatting he left.

Then my manager turns to me and my coworker and Seethes about the nerve of this guy bc there is No Way he just Found such a perfectly bred corgi, people steal them all the time, something was wrong. She checked where he said he’d uploaded a lost pet ask, and found nothing. So when she said the dog looked just like one she knew, that was a barefaced lie. And her friend was not missing a dog. She didn’t even call her friend. But she got a picture of this guy with the dog, his number, and also at some point a picture of his work keys so she knows where to find him. And she’s going to contact every corgi breeder within 50 miles (and oh boy she knows all of them) to see if they’re missing a prize dog.

This man is going to rot in hell. Forget bull testicles, he’s going to get his own balls placed in his hands. She is going to rip him apart with her teeth. She will drag him to court. She will help sue him onto the streets. And she will look adorable the whole time because that is how she is. This guy fucking stepped into the station of the Appalachian Corgi Police and I would almost feel bad for him if he wasn’t fucking stealing people’s dogs to misuse and mistreat.

Anyway as you can probably tell I’m enjoying my job. The kittens and ferrets are also nice.

Are you named after anyone?  I was named by my father's ex-wife who is a Buddhist after the Bodhisattva Tara (long story, there was lots of "free love" going around). I was supposed to bring my father back to Earth.

When was the last time you cried? A couple weeks ago, went to the Renaissance Faire with my kiddos. It was loud and crowded, and I'm weird.

Do you have kids? Yes, 25 and 22 plus my bonus kid 26. Also all my friends call me Mamas (I'm the mom friend that takes care of everyone).

Do you use sarcasm a lot? In person, yes.

 What sports do you play/have you played? I lack coordination so no sports. I do enjoy roller skating though.

What’s the first thing you notice about other people?  Their eyes, they are the window to the soul.

Eye colour? Grey blue/ blue grey.

Scary movies or happy endings?  Neither.

Any special talents? Not really, I just pay attention. Which makes me the magical finder of lost things, keeper of the group memory, Historian for 3 different groups and phone-a-friend for colleagues past and present.

What are your hobbies?  Sims, painting, sculpting miniatures, crafts. I used to do embroidery but my hands are too bad for it these days.

EDIT: I cannot express how happy I am to see all the notes that are THRILLED to see her being lazy on my bed. Crème was actually at a kill shelter before being taken in by the foster that put her on pet finder and lost most of her teeth.
