A million people have written more eloquent analyses of Batman's use of fear as a tool when it comes to fighting crime than whatevers going on in my head at the moment, but it just occurred to me that Batman really does operate on horror movie logic. The monster you can't see is infinitely scarier than the one you do. The imagination has far greater limits for terror than the average production team does. it isn't 'Batman is scary because he's a creature that lurks around in the dark and breaks your bones,' it's 'Batman is scary because you will never get a good look at him, no one has ever heard him speak, he hits and is gone before you know what happened' and that lack of full comprehension of what he is is what makes him such a powerful figure. As the audience, we know who, what, why, and how he is, so that element is a little lost on us I think, why it's so easy to go 'lol these goons are terrified of an emotionally stunted man in a leather bat costume.' Meanwhile, every adversary who has ever bore the brunt of Batman's attention and therefore had real conversations with him are like That Is Literally Just A Guy.

zero hate, it is fascinating to me how people will get into dc or whatever but not read comics. writing about characters they have not consumed any source material for. like girl you are not a comic book fan you are a fandom fan wait post cancelled i was struck by the wonder of human beings getting so excited to make art and engage with community that they see online peers getting passionate about something and immediately jump in without fully understand what its for. and thats sort of beautiful even if aspects of it are annoying or confusing sometimes.

And then I spend the next five minutes finding out he’s the most pathetic, unhinged, cringefail loser with cunty pigtails in the manga/anime and falling even deeper in love

I’m still not used to people just liking to exist with me. I’ve always liked doing that with other people but never really expected anyone to like doing that with me. I’m kind of realizing that it’s a thing about how I was trained to be low maintenance but always putting emotional labor into the people around me. So some part of me doesn’t believe that people will just want to experience me chilling or going silent or whatever because I feel like if I’m not providing something I’m not worth the space. And then I feel guilty when I need the reassurance that they are actually ok with me just sitting mostly silently and only speaking when I actually have something to say.

Man, I dunno what’s worse realizing these issues and where they come from so I work on them or having been oblivious and having it ruin relationships. (Just kidding it’s letting important relationships die because I’m not self aware enough to notice the problem)
