Just wanted to share a new artist to me from Boyle Heights name Jose Luis Zuno. He is a spectacular L.A. painter.
The feeling I get from standing in front of his work makes me feel like thousands of our ancestors are all looking at me.
Zuno's works are usually presented on 7ft canvasses. He says they're only 7ft tall because that is the limitation of where he can afford to rent - as in the ceilings are his literal limits. His works would be much larger if he could have it that way. His works are EXTREMELY detailed. I mean, the hand cramps when you look at them. It's amazing how much time, paint, eye detail (both literally and figuratively), and physical labor he puts into his works. Please follow him on IG and maybe check out his own website too.
If I had one wish for Angelino's this year it would be to get to stand in front of one of Zuno's amazing canvasses.

Scotty Cunningham (c.1966) photographed by Bruce Harry Bellas under his pseudonym Bruce of Los Angeles. Bruce of Los Angeles was an American photographer and pioneer with his work of male physique and nudes. Many contemporary photographers such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Herb Ritts, and Bruce Weber are considered to be highly influenced by his work. He passed away in 1974 while on vacation with his favorite model and long-time partner Scotty Cunningham (above), to whom he left his estate.

Going through my dark and brooding era. Is pleinair painting cooler if you make it spooky? I hope the answer is yes. Here are 10 of my 15 nocturne paintings I showed at SITTING OUTSIDE 2, a pleinair painting show in Los Angeles that I curated. I did all nocturnes for the show this year. Hoping to keep that going.
