#repost @rayvargas3 Ramón Vargas (Los Angeles, California, USA). Greenhouse, 2022, oil on canvas, 48 x 42 in. Thanks to @stevenzevitasgallery Steven Zevitas Gallery (Boston, Massachusetts, USA) for the tip. Included in Night Swimming: New American Paintings Review.
I have multiple signature bodies of work, some you probably haven't seen. My signature geometric work began with "The Up-Side Of Down." This 48in x 60in is the largest from that collection. I prefer to work on panel for hard-edge geometric techniques. Those panels get heavy though, and they can also be tricky to ship...not to mention if you dent or scuff, repair is next to impossible without completely altering the piece.
Closing tomorrow, 6/24, is Cross Communication, an exhibition of Chris Burden’s relics, films, video works, and other materials that document his early performances at Gagosian’s 75th and Park location in NYC.
Walking into the gallery and hearing one of his TV commercials in which he reads off the names of famous artists followed by his own name (Chris Burden Promo (1976)), is a humorous introduction to Burden’s often audacious work. Poem for LA from 1975, which follows with the messages- “SCIENCE HAS FAILED”, “HEAT IS LIFE” and “TIME KILLS” still resonates today.
Check out the video below to see the commercials and hear Burden discuss the work.

Other videos included have him crawling across glass; lying between two sheets of glass that are on set on fire (Icarus); and one of his most infamous- being shot in the arm (Shoot, 1971). The less outrageous works are great too, including Disappearing (1971), pictured above.
For more on the artist, the excellent documentary Burden, by Richard Dewey and Timothy Marrinan, follows his career from these earlier works to the large scale sculptures like Metropolis II and Urban Light that came later. Both of these installations are on view in Los Angeles at LACMA.
Deity of lightning, fire, and afterlife. Xolotl is the evening star as he is the twin that guides the sun to rest every night. He is also the guide of souls.
People born with Xolotl as their ruling deity are natural helpers. They love guiding others and offering advice. Just like Xolotl himself, these people are intelligent, affectionate, protective, and even playful around people they trust.

#repost @m_bardales Michael Bardales-Urióstegui (Hawthorne, California, USA, b. Inglewood, California, 1994-). First three images are from "Un coyote y tres jaguares". Last image is "Self portrait in the land of the dead". This artist's figurative painting stems from larger goals for spirituality and representation, which do happen to include the canine and feline portrayals relevant to this feed. Works have been shown recently around Los Angeles via @tlalocstudios and @thinkspace_art.
Tonight is the penultimate full moon of the year, so it seemed like a good moment to post this painting, The Real Realities 2, 2013, by Friedrich Kunath. It was on view in 2019 at the Marciano Art Foundation in Los Angeles which after abruptly closing due to a labor dispute, appears to have reopened.
The Art of Surviving November, Kunath’s inaugural solo exhibition at Galerie Max Hetzler’s London location, and consisting of a new body of paintings, is on view until 1/6/24.
