'...The company’s upcoming originals slate includes a three-and-a-half-hour adaptation of George Orwell’s “1984,” featuring Andrew Garfield, Cynthia Erivo, Andrew Scott and Tom Hardy. Muse’s Matthew Bellamy and Ilan Eshkeri wrote the score, which was recorded by the London Metropolitan Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. In other words, Audible wrote some larger-than-usual checks for this one...'

Last Song Game
I was tagged by @greighish, who did this awesome/smart/hilarious breakdown/takedown/smackdown of the lyrics to George Benson's "Turn Your Love Around" that you should go check out to get extra credit to pass that life skillz course. (Thanks for the tag, friend!)
Last thing I listened to was this:
youtube
It's one of my favorite things ever and anytime I'm in a big city, I like to pop on my headphones and blast this- it pulses and thrums like a chaotic metropolis and feels like steel, rails, and urban gridiron with the occasional glimpse of exiled green.
And for bigger chills, there's a version of this recorded by The London Metropolitan Orchestra that is dizzyingly, Copelandishly gorgeous.
Rubbing my hands together and looking around the room to tag the first peeps I make eye contact with...@box-of-sims, @satureja13, @darksimzzz, @nata1997, and @agena87. **Do at your own peril- and only if you feel like it**😉

hello! if i might make a request, i would love a playlist for a noncanon citizen of tomorrowland metropolis (disneyworld)! upbeat synthwave or anything that sounds a bit like the area music that plays in the theme park would be ideal, if possible! i would appreciate if you could avoid music with very heavy bass. thank you so much! - @citizenoftmrrwlnd
Hey Astro (@/citizenoftmrrlnd) !!! I honestly felt honored to get your request actually but I really hope you enjoy it!! When I used to go to tomorrowland in Disney as a kid I loved it so much besides the fact the arch is now changed :( But let me know if you want changes!!

Tyondai Braxton - Telekinesis
Telekinesis—an eighty-seven-piece work for electric guitars, orchestra, choir and electronics—will be released on November 11, 2022, via New Amsterdam and Nonesuch Records. Featuring the Metropolis Ensemble conducted by Andrew Cyr, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus conducted by Dianne Berkun Menaker, and chamber choir The Crossing conducted by Donald Nally, Telekinesis is the first studio recording of the work. Telekinesis is the result of a co-commission by the Southbank Centre London and Musica Nova, Helsinki Festival. The world premiere took place on April 18, 2018 at Queen Elizabeth Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Singers, followed by a performance at Helsinki Festival by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Andre de Ridder conducted both performances. Braxton calls Telekinesis “the latest and largest example of intersections between my electronic music and notated music, both sonically and philosophically.” Throughout the recording and production process, Braxton sought to “create an environment where electronic instruments and acoustic instruments coexist in a place that feels balanced and organic.” To achieve that, the orchestra, choir, and electronics were tracked section by section at Oktaven Audio in Mt Vernon, New York from August 2021 to March 2022 by engineer Ryan Streber. This allowed for a hyper-detailed mix session with Seth Manchester at Machines with Magnets in Pawtucket, RI. As a studio recording, the mix recreates how an orchestra would be placed (with some exceptions), but is exaggerated in its width and in the closeness and depth of certain instruments, surrounding the listener. Braxton says: “As a science fiction and horror fan, the initial idea was to write an opera based on the Japanese manga masterpiece Akira, although over time, I realized I was more interested in the story as an invisible thematic guide rather than something more literal. Among a number of storylines in Akira is the idea that a young boy comes upon the ability to move objects and generate energy with his mind. Entirely enthralled with his own power and apparent limitless potential, and despite his inability to physically and mentally control this force, he launches unrestrained into its use. Ultimately, his hubris overtakes and destroys him. The power of the mind has been a compelling consideration for me and is an underlying theme in this piece.” Composer, Electronics, Celeste: Tyondai Braxton Metropolis Ensemble: Andrew Cyr, artistic director/conductor Brooklyn Youth Chorus: Dianne Berkun Menaker, conductor The Crossing: Donald Nally, conductor Cover Art: "Sanctuary City" by Grace Villamil

European Itinerary - Europäische Reiseroute - Interrail
Source: Craven, Steven (1985), Boat train at Victoria station, Wikipedia, CC BY-SY 2.0 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Boat_train_at_Victoria_station_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1129401.jpg - Interrailers could always be recognized by their backpacks and train tickets.
Vacations with my parents from the 60s to 80s almost always consisted of visiting friends and family. My family (Danube Swabians on my father's side and Austrians on my mother's side) was spread across Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Germany which was handy: on one hand you were acquainted with someone who understood the local language and mentality (two of my aunts spoke Italian fluently) - and had local knowledge. But on the other hand our trips went only to those countries.
After a short trip with my younger brother to London (we stayed at the bed & breakfast of my father’s cousin...of course) I got more interested in getting to know other European metropolises on my own. A fellow student of mine (a refugee from Afghanistan) made very good experiences with youth hostels: it was affordable, you often met open, like-minded travel enthusiasts with whom you could exchange experiences or even travel a short distance together. Sometimes the contact was even maintained afterwards. So the following was soon clear: European itinerary from metropolis to metropolis, overnight stays in youth hostels and the means of transport of choice was the railway.
In 1972, the so-called Interrail ticket was introduced by many European railway companies. For a certain fixed price (500 DM at the time) you could use the entire European railway network (later many ferry connections were even added) or you were offered train tickets for certain "higher quality connections" at a fairly reduced price. The idea behind it was to enable young people to travel Europe on a small budget and thus to bring Europeans closer together. But maybe the driver was as well: cultures that know each other are less inclined to shoot at each other.
My itinerary at the time: Stuttgart - London - Edinburgh - London - Paris - Madrid - Lisbon - Barcelona - Zurich - Vienna - Milan - Naples/Capri - Rome - Vienna - Stuttgart
Special experiences and encounters that I like to look back on - besides the normal tourist program and the many small things that didn't stick in my memory:
A stimulating conversation with a French about his former student life at the Trocadero fountain in Paris, while his young daughter was splashing in the fountain there. He just wanted to alert me to pickpockets. That's when we got talking. During the conversation he even offered me some of his rose wine, which he had hung into the fountain to cool. Savoir Vivre!
At the Sacre Coeur church, the soothing, evening view over Paris - lying in the grass or sitting on a staircase and listening to the street musicians there.
The youth hostel in London's Holland Park was next to an open-air stage on which operas were performed in the summer: your favorite lecture and, incidentally, Verdi's Nabucco for free. In this youth hostel I also met the German, who then spontaneously traveled to Edinburgh with me. I learned from him how you can easily identify Germans abroad: by their Birkenstock sandals!
In the youth hostel in Vienna I met a German who traveled to Vienna for a week every year to attend classical concerts there. A casual chat about music ensued. I think it was also his tip to visit the pavilion in Vienna's „Stadtgarten“ (public park) where the small, local orchestra regularly performed old Viennese tunes: Viennese waltzes by Strauss or Lanner - with a Viennese Melange coffee and maybe a piece of cake in the associated cafe. Mental journey back to the Imperial Austro-Hungarian era of Vienna.
In the youth hostel in Cascais (nearby Lisbon), numerous conversations with the Romanian roommate about life in general and his life as a guest worker in Portugal in particular. Stories that life writes.
-
Meine damalige Reiseroute: Stuttgart - London - Edinburgh - London - Paris - Madrid - Lissabon - Barcelona - Zürich - Wien - Mailand - Neapel - Rom - Wien - Stuttgart

London playlist
London - since 43 AD it has to be one of the more fascinating cities on Earth. Such a rich history. From Shakespeare Theatre to the music from there today. I just had to put a London playlist together. From Soho to Brixton, from Highgate to Clapham what a collection of songs! It’s over 350 songs and it could easily expand to 400. **I have a separate England & Wales playlist coming, so, stay tuned for that**.

Can you write an imagine for either George or Paul
Purple Tulips and Red Wine
Pairing: Paul McCartney x Reader
Words: around 1849?
Rating: T
Author’s Note: The concept is based on Rachel’s and Joey’s date in Friends. Had fun writing this, sorry it took so much time.
“Is there some scotch in this damn place.”
The boys exchanged glances as you fell on a nearby armchair. Ringo approached you and tapped your shoulder.
“What’s going on, love?”
“Nothing.”
“There’s obviously something going on.”
“I said it’s nothing.”
You hummed softly. Paul got up from the couch and lightened a cigarette.
“Y/N, why don’t we go out tomorrow evening? I’ll take you someplace nice. These three can’t make it to the movies anyway.”
You looked up from the pillow you had buried your face in.
“What?”
“Hey, it’s Brian you should be attacking, birdie,” John said while poking your side with his toes. “Macca is the only one who’s free tomorrow, and that’s just because he’s a suck-up.”
You frowned.
“I’m going to pretend I believe you…but I don’t.”
“Oh, you know we love you!” George shouted from the kitchen.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” you answered with a small smile. “Paul, you’re my new favorite.”
Passing by him, you gave him a quick hug before joining George in the kitchen. As soon as you left the room, John hit Paul with a cushion.
“Oh man, I can’t believe how chicks dig you. We almost could see a drop of sweat running on your temples when you asked her out.”
“I didn’t ask her out. She thinks we’re just friends,” he added with a painful whine.
“Mate, that’s just sad. Why don’t you tell her?”
“Can’t.”
“Give me ten pounds and I’ll do it for ya.”
“I’m with you, John, but he’s got to tell her himself,” Ringo intervened. “Why don’t you become your usual, suave you?”
“Because it’s Y/N we’re talking about!”
“Yeah, so? You’ve liked her since forever, and I’m sure she-”
“Who?”
Their heads turned simultaneously towards the sound of your voice as you were putting on your jacket. John was about to open his mouth but Paul violently pinched him from behind and Ringo slowly moved forward, his boiling cup of tea dangerously tilted over John’s trousers.
“His aunt Mimi, you know, she was always kind to me and always sends me postcards, and, you know…”
You hesitantly smiled at them before walking to the door.
“Call me?” you asked Paul.
“No need. Be ready at 8.”
__
You checked yourself for the last time in the mirror near the front door before grabbing your keys and exiting your house. There, on the few steps leading to the sidewalk, was your date, standing still and grinning like a madman.
“Aw, look at you all dressed up for your best friend,” you exclaimed, giving him a quick peck on the cheek.
“Anything for my favorite midget.”
His grin grew wider while he messed up your hair, earning a small shriek from you – this took me half an hour you git! – as you tried to restyle them. You sent him a dirty look but he laughed it off and offered you the bouquet of flowers he was hiding behind his back. Purple tulips. You softened at the sight.
“So, where shall we go?”
“I was thinking maybe that place near Carnaby Street, you know, the one with the fancy menu?”
“Sounds great! But don’t you think we should’ve booked first?”
Paul shrugged, hands in the pockets of his tuxedo.
“Already did. Pattie told me you wanted to go there,” he explained to your raised eyebrows.
You smiled to yourself as you entered the car.
“Thank you for doing this,” you mumbled.
“Hey, it’s a great idea. Couldn’t leave you alone today. And you were right the other day, we don’t spend much time together anymore, and…I rather miss you.”
Your heart skipped a bit as you slightly punched him on the shoulder.
“I rather miss you too.”
__
“-and then we set the condom on fire!”
“You didn’t!”
“We did, and trust me, you don’t want to try that.”
You chuckled and looked around you. Your table was secluded from the others, giving you some well-thought privacy to avoid any fanatical attacks. The jazzy music gave the restaurant a black and white New-York vibe that you always longed for late at night in front of the television.
“You know, there has always been something I wanted to ask you. I’m just so curious…”
“About what?” Paul asked while serving you some more wine.
You shrugged, a little embarrassed but continued.
“What are your moves?”
“My what?”
“Your moves, you know, on a date – a real date. You must have a sort of routine, right?”
“Bold of you to assume I need dates to get girls. They keep throwing themselves at me.”
Half amused, half exasperated, you threw your napkin at him.
“Oh, come on.”
He looked down to hide the smirk that was growing on his lips.
“I don’t have any moves…”
You scoffed.
“I don’t buy it. A guy like you must have some moves.”
He raised a cheeky eyebrow.
“And what would ‘a guy like me’ be?”
Devastatingly handsome. Excessively perfect. The owner of my heart.
“You know… A flirt.”
His lips formed a mockingly hurt ‘o’.
“Is that what you think of me?”
You narrowed your eyes, shooting him another come on glare. He laughed and raised his hands in surrender.
“Okay, okay. I don’t know, I have various ‘moves’, as you like to call them, that I gradually display over the course of the night and see whether they work or not. But they generally do.”
You took a bite of your plate and moved your head to the left, thoughtful.
“I’m afraid you’ll have to be more specific than that. I can’t roast you with so little information.”
He smiled brightly and, gently taking you free hand, began rubbing it with his thumb. He looked at you, head slightly tilted, and moved closer.
“So where did you grow up?”
“In Liverpool. A few streets from your house,” you replied, trying to hold back your laugh.
“Come on, just answer the questions,” he pleaded, eyebrows raised. “And did you got along with your family?”
“Well most of the time yes, but there were some times where I felt like they didn’t really understand me, especially my mother. I used to joke that she only loved me because she was legally required to, but I was always secretly apprehensive.”
Paul left your palm to replace a strand of rebellious hair behind your ear. His fingers lingered for some seconds on your jaw.
“Oh, that must have been hard.”
“Yeah, it was, and-”
You stopped, amazed.
“Wow, that was great! Simple but effective. Casual physical contacts making you ache for more and the right amount of emotion, I’m in awe!”
“Thank you, thank you. And what do you do?”
You took a sip of your wine, languorously, and gently patted your humid lips with the napkin. Paul opened his mouth to stop you but you took your lipstick and began putting it on with a deliberate slowness. He froze as he watched the cardinal red lipstick around every curve of your mouth, matching the depth of the wine. Without breaking the established eye contact, you pressed your two lips together to even the amount of lipstick and slightly bit your lower lip before offering him a playful smile.
“Fair enough,” he nodded appreciatory.
“I know it’s nothing, but I usually get a response. Especially when I combine it with other things.”
He moved his hand to ask for the check, which came almost immediately. At times like that, you found yourself wondering whether it was the quality of the restaurant or the fame of your entourage that explained the speediness and promptness of the service.
You moved to reach for your purse but felt his hand block you.
“What kind of a gentleman would I be if I let you pay?”
“Oh come on, Paul! This isn’t even a real date!”
“Y/N, this doesn’t need to be a romantic rendezvous for me to be courteous.”
He paused and looked around.
“However, that candle-lit table feels pretty la vie en rose, no?”
“I guess.”
The orchestra had moved on to a softer, more exotic tune. You recognized the first notes of The Girl From Ipanema as you both got up and walked to the door.
But I watch her so sadly, how can I tell her I love her
Yes I would give my heart gladly
You both looked down as the song’s volume gradually decreased, both lost in your thoughts. Having decided you would leave the car there for the night, you had been strolling for a few meters when he broke the casual silence.
“That was really fun.”
“Well, that’s because you never went on a date with me before,” you snickered gingerly and placed your arm around his, feeling emboldened by the alcohol.
“Is that so?” He murmured, looking down at you.
He was so close that you felt his breath intertwine with yours. You gulped and turned away. Letting out a few coughs, you glanced at him while keeping a respectful distance between your two heads.
The walk went by just fine. He cracked up a few jokes and you laughed, and then told some more as you passed through the lively city. London at night was as bustling as it was in the mornings, but the dark sky provided some sort of serenity that seemed impossible to find in such a metropolis.
When you arrived in front of your house, your feet were hurting, but you could not care less. You were caught in that after-date glee that made everything feel so marvelously perfect.
“So, what are Paul McCartney’s end of the night moves?”
He met your gaze with a bright smirk.
“Well, first of all, I make my lips irresistible.”
Your lips already are irresistible.
“Wha- How?”
“This better stay between us but…I use a softening lip balm,” he sheepishly admitted.
You giggled, actually surprised by the statement.
“Oh, man, I’m going to have so much fun with this.”
Paul gently pushed you on the side and you would have tripped if he was not still holding you.
“Anyway…”
You locked eyes for a moment. He put his hands on your hips, slowly leaning in. His pupils had darkened.
“Just do it.”
“You’re half drunk. If I kiss you now, I won’t stop at that.”
“That’s the point.”
You grabbed his collar and pulled him closer, plunging on his lips. The kiss was soft, yet fiery from the taste of the red wine. Your hands wandered from his hair to this torso, making him pull you closer. You skillfully reached for your keys and opened the door, still holding him firmly. You stumbled in the living room as he kept kissing every inch of your face, neck and shoulders.
“Paul, I kinda love you, and I’m guessing the feeling is mutual? Or else I’m jumping out of the window after what just happened.”
He offered you his brightest smile.
“You know, the florist told me that giving purple tulips to a significant other denotes – and I quote – that they’re the king or queen of your heart.”
You sighed appreciatively and took his hand, leading him to your bedroom.
“Glad we are on the same wavelength.”

(Telekinesis | Tyondai Braxtonから)
The power of the mind has been a compelling consideration for me and is an underlying theme in this piece.” クレジット2022年11月11日リリース Composer, Electronics, Celeste: Tyondai Braxton Metropolis Ensemble: Andrew Cyr, artistic director/conductor Brooklyn Youth Chorus: Dianne Berkun Menaker, conductor The Crossing: Donald Nally, conductor Producers: Tyondai Braxton and Andrew Cyr Additional Contributors: Ryan Streber, engineer; Seth Manchester, mixing; Matt Colton, mastering Cover Art: "Sanctuary City" by Grace Villamil Co-commissioned by Southbank Centre, London and Musica nova, Helsinki Festival Premiered April 18, 2018 at Queen Elizabeth Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Singers

Philharmonic Concert Hall, Belgrade
Following a year-long international competition led by the UNDP, London architecture studio AL_A has been selected to design the new Belgrade Philharmonic Concert Hall.
The Concert Hall is a landmark project for the City of Belgrade and Serbia. It is the biggest cultural investment in the region for decades. Located next to the historic Palace of Serbia in New Belgrade, the project is an extraordinary commitment to building a brighter, more sustainable future for the city. With multiple performance, rehearsal and creative spaces including a symphonic concert hall with 1,600 seats, the Hall will be the first of its kind in the Balkans: an internationally recognised platform for world class musical performance contributing to the social, economic and environmental development of Serbia.
In 2021 the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) launched an international design competition on behalf of the Government of Serbia in partnership with the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Culture and Information, City of Belgrade and the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, targeting the world’s most renowned architecture firms. 37 applications were received from 15 countries, with eight candidates invited to proceed to the next stage.
An international jury comprising architects, concert hall and competition experts, as well as representatives of the organising bodies, assessed designs developed to a detailed brief and technical concepts drawn up by strategic arts and culture planning consultants Arup, and the Plan of Detailed Regulation of the City of Belgrade. Of the final six received and evaluated by the jury, AL_A was declared the winner. An overview of the shortlisted proposals is available on the UNDP website.
Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister of Serbia, says: ‘The Belgrade Philharmonic Concert Hall is the largest cultural infrastructure project in Serbia, and the region, and will be one of the largest in Europe itself. I am proud that this decades-long dream, of our professional musicians, young talents, music lovers and the people of Serbia, is finally coming true in such a beautiful shape. I believe that this Hall will be one of the greatest cultural legacies of this Government. Investing in culture and in education is crucial for setting the pillars of a succesful and strong modern country. This is something we have began with numerous similar cultural projects. This Concert Hall is most definitely going to become a new landmark of Belgrade and attract visitors and tourists to our country. Furthermore, with its quality programs it will enrich our citizens’ cultural life. I strongly believe that it will become another regional hub for making contacts and knowledge exchange, with the flow of creativity, ideas and experience of both domestic and foreign artists’.
Darko Krstic, acting director of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, says: ‘Many years ago, with tireless and fearless enthusiasm, our former and dearly departed director Ivan Tasovac, embarked on a decades-long dream – to build a magnificent home for the Belgrade Philharmonic, the leading orchestra in the region, creating an internationally recognized centre for music, a regional hub for culture and the arts, and a new symbol of Belgrade and Serbia. We are delighted with AL_A’s design, one that not only celebrates the uniqueness of our orchestra, but which provides an accessible, special, and attractive venue for social gatherings in the Serbian capital – a place that celebrates the lifestyle of Belgrade as a European metropolis and a new home that Belgrade Philharmonic deserves.’
Amanda Levete, principal of AL_A, says: ‘You couldn’t dream of a better site than this to message Serbia’s vision for the future. The magnificent setting of Ušće Park, on the banks of the River Danube, sends a powerful message about transforming and rewilding our cities to make them greener, more beautiful spaces. The Concert Hall will be an expression of harmony between nature, architecture and music, at a pivot point in Europe where East meets West. It will be a place where people from all places and cultures, of all ages and abilities, come together to delight in music from every genre.’
AL_A is the award-winning architecture studio founded by the RIBA Stirling Prize-winning architect Amanda Levete. Completed projects include the Victoria & Albert Museum Exhibition Road Quarter in London and the Museum of Art, Architecture & Technology in Lisbon.
AL_A lead an international team including landscape designers VDLA, engineers AFA Consult and local architects Zabriskie. They join Arup who continue their role in acoustic and theatrical design.

Dubai: Explore The United Emirates of Art

Dubai: Explore The United Emirates of Art
In a city best known for shiny skyscrapers and superlatives discover Dubai’s arts and culture scene.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_single_image image=”20771″ img_size=”1200 x 641″ add_caption=”yes”][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_column_text]
Dubai is a city built on vision and ambition. Literally rising out of the Arabian desert, Dubai has metamorphosed from a fishing and pearl diving hub to a sprawling metropolis in only 49 years.
In 1971 the seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah) unified and became one nation, the United Arab Emirates. From those beginnings the bold ambition of the Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has helped put Dubai on the map. The emirate is now a sophisticated, futuristic and popular destination where visitors can land in the world’s largest airport terminal, visit the Burj Khalifa the world’s tallest building, shop at one of the world’s biggest shopping malls, and stay in the world’s tallest hotel. In fact, Dubai has so many records that it has set the record for the city with the most world records – 224 and counting.
While a trip to Dubai is not complete without the obligatory visit to the Burj Khalifa, which is an elegant and remarkable feat of structural engineering in its own right, on first appearances it may seem that Dubai does not have much to offer the travelling aesthete. But when you step away from the flashy lights and the lure of the dancing fountains, you will discover that there is indeed a deep rich history and a burgeoning and bright arts scene in the city and beyond that can inspire and delight as much as any record-breaking building.
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_single_image image=”20770″ img_size=”1200 x 641″ add_caption=”yes”][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_column_text]Start with a wander around Bur Dubai, Dubai’s Old Town, an area to the north of the city which is steeped in heritage. Here is where the beating heart of the city was long before the foundation of a single skyscraper was laid. Head to Dubai Creek and the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood for a glimpse of traditional Emirati living. Al Fahidi is one of the oldest communities in Dubai, with its sandy houses and wind towers (known as barajeel), the area is characterised by its winding network of narrow alleys or sikkas. The area was once the home of Dubai’s wealthy merchants, and reflects the way of living that was typical in Dubai from around the mid 19th century to the 1970s, and is awash with culture at every turn, from the 18th century Al Fahidi Fort and Ruler’s Divan to the recently opened Al Shindagha Museum.
A trip to Dubai Museum at Al Fahidi Fort provides visitors with a historical context to the pioneering city around them, showing that the emirate’s desire for development and ambitious ascension is rooted in a heritage of trade, natural resources and industrious peoples.
Another highlight of the neighbourhood is the XVA Art Hotel. Here, traditional architecture meets modern design. Entering the Art Hotel from the narrow sikka, visitors are transported to an art-filled oasis and are welcomed by a charming tree-shaded courtyard. Part hotel, part gallery, XVA showcases contemporary works from across the Arab world, Iran and the Sub-continent with a roster of exhibitions which focus on works by the region’s foremost artists as well as those emerging onto the scene. To stay at XVA is to experience the beauty and simplicity of traditional Arabic architecture as each of the 15 rooms with cool stone floors and courtyard views are uniquely decorated and designed with regional art.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_single_image image=”20788″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_column_text]The UAE is a Muslim nation and a common misconception is that female voices are not heard in this society, their stories, faces and experiences untold and hidden behind abayas and burqas. But one special place challenges this narrative, the Women’s Museum. Created and established by Professor Rafia Ghubash, the first Emirati psychiatrist and the first Emirati woman to receive a professorship in psychiatry, the museum is situated across the Creek in Deira- a bustling district full of souks selling spices, textiles, gold, meat and fish. Getting to the museum requires navigating the Old Gold Souk in Deira, so explore the markets and haggle for bargains on your way.
The Women’s museum is built within Bait Al Banat, meaning The Girls House. The exhibition space takes visitors through a lovingly curated journey that shows the roles and impact of Emirati women, recalling the daily lives of women living in the UAE from as early as the 1950s. The museum also houses two exhibition spaces, one dedicated to temporary exhibits of female artists from across the Emirates, while the other is home to a body of work called Zayed Empowering Women, which highlights the late President of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his contribution to women in the UAE. The Diwan Ousha Bint Khalifa Al Suwidi Room is a striking embodiment of the work of the Emirati poet, known also as ‘The Girl of the Arabs’. Ousha is regarded as one of the finest Arabic poets and the exhibition charts her experience.
Dubai has around 50 art galleries and being a relative new player in the global arts industry has not stopped it from creating distinct visual and experiential spaces for artists and aficionados alike. Alserkal Avenue is one such place. A cultural district of contemporary art galleries, non-profit organisations, and homegrown businesses in the Al Quoz industrial area of Dubai. Al Serkal Avenue is spread across 500,000 square feet and is not only a centre of art but a vibrant community of visual and performing arts organisations, designers, and artisanal spaces that have become an essential platform for the development of the creative industries in the UAE.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_single_image image=”20766″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_column_text]Alserkal Avenue has its own gravitational pull, attracting acclaimed artists from all over the world to its district of warehouse style art galleries. Alserkal has had collaborations with UK galleries such as The V&A, The Hayward Gallery and Whitechapel Gallery. The art-loving traveller can spend time wandering the lanes of galleries and studios, watch an arthouse film, pick up an original artwork or simply browse and enjoy an artisanal coffee roasted on site.
Dubai’s theatre and performing arts lovers used to have to make do with productions in conference halls with acoustics that were not designed for the vibrato of a philharmonic orchestra. That was until Dubai Opera opened in 2016, becoming the city’s first purpose-built multi-format performing arts theatre. Though the city does not have a theatre district like London’s West End, Dubai Opera has played host to stunning productions of West End shows such as Les Misérables, The Nutcracker and The Kite Runner, and the stage has been graced by the biggest names in opera such as Placido Domingo, José Carreras and Katherine Jenkins.
If you are looking for vast visual spectacle then this year’s Expo 2020 Dubai, from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, promises to offer the greatest show on Earth. With six months of innovation, arts and technology in hundreds of unique country pavilions for visitors to marvel at. At the time of writing, despite the global Covid-19 crisis, Expo 2020 Dubai is still scheduled to go ahead.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_single_image image=”20777″ img_size=”1200 x 641″ add_caption=”yes”][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_column_text]Dubai is not the only emirate with artistic attractions. The UAE’s capital, Abu Dhabi, also has a wealth of art and heritage to explore too, but if you only see one thing, see the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Around an hour’s drive away from Dubai Marina, Louvre Abu Dhabi is a testimony of the UAE’s commitment and appreciation of art past, present and future. Located on Saadiyat Island, surrounded by the tranquil waters of the Arabian Gulf, Louvre Abu Dhabi is an island of awe and art. The intricate 590-foot-wide dome shaped museum was born out of a partnership between the UAE and France and houses some 600 masterpieces in its four wings. From adorned Egyptian sarcophagus from 900BC through to Basquiat’s Cabra, the Louvre Abu Dhabi illustrates how the Middle East is intrinsically connected to the world.
Do not expect to see too many billboards on the buses or tube inviting you to ‘Discover Sharjah’ (the emirate has one of the strictest decency laws in the UAE and alcohol is almost entirely forbidden), but for the culture loving traveler, a day trip to the emirate is worth skipping happy hour for. Sharjah is the third largest of the seven emirates, bordering Dubai it is approximately 20 minutes drive from Dubai International Airport. The emirate has established a reputation for its commitment to art, culture and history – Sharjah was recognised as the UNESCO cultural capital of the Arab World in 1998 and has hosted the Sharjah Biennial since 1993.
Sharjah’s historic Art and Heritage Areas houses the Sharjah Art foundation (SAF), the artistic centre fo Sharjah. Book a ticket to the Rain Room (main image) and wander through an immersive installation that invites you to walk through a dark shower of continuous rain without getting wet, exploring our relationship with nature and technology.
Dubai’s art scene may not be as obvious as its glittering skyline but seeking it out will paint the city in a different light.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”26px”][vc_single_image image=”20773″ img_size=”1200 x 641″ add_caption=”yes”][/vc_column][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/3″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row inner_container=”true” padding_top=”20px” padding_bottom=”20px” border=”all” content_text_aligment=”” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” bg_video=”” class=”” style=””][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”20792″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][/vc_column][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]

29.01.20 MUSICBOX The Legendary Tigerman

30.01.20 LUX FRÁGIL VALSA DE VIANA Jeff Mills
Jeff Mills is considered the most brilliant DJ and producer of Techno Music in the World. He is the most recognized representative figure of Detroit Techno , where he began his career as a DJ on the WDRQ radio in 1984. He has created with “Mad Mike Banks” the collective “Underground Resistance”, which became a reference in the electro sphere. In 1992, Jeff Mills created his own label in Chicago :with “Axis”, he could keep his artistic independence and produce his own timeless electronic music compositions, inspired of science fiction. Jeff Mills’ artistic career goes much further than techno music.
For over a decade, he’s been transcending disciplines with a large number of collaborations in contemporary art. Interested in cinema and attracted by images, Jeff Mills started working, in 2000, on the fusion of image and sound. In 2000, he created and presented at the Centre Pompidou a new sound track for the film “Metropolis” by Fritz Lang. A year after, he created “Mono”, an installation inspired by the movie “2001, a Space Odyssey”, by Stanley Kubrick. In 2004, Jeff Mills produced the DVD “Exhibitionist” which presents DJ sets filmed from various angles (from front, top and side). At that same period, he acquired a new tool, the DVJ-X which allowed him to manipulate image and sound together paving the way into the Art World.
In 2005, Jeff Mills made, for MK2, a new sound track for the silent movie “Three Ages” by Buster Keaton, and created a serie of 6 video art works presented in Paris at the Galerie Georges-Philippe et Nathalie Vallois and at the « rendez-vous vidéo » of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen. Jeff Mills continued this work period with a production on Josephine Baker, presented during the FIAC 2005 in the Grand Palais.
On July 2nd 2005, Jeff Mills played together with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Montpellier, for the 20th anniversary of the Pont du Gard's inclusion in the world heritage list by UNESCO. Together with the orchestra, Jeff Mills performed his own compositions, orchestrated by Thomas Roussel for this occasion. That same year, Jeff Mills received the title of « Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres» from the French ministry of Culture. In 2008, Jeff Mills was commissioned to create a comtemporary installation for 100 Year Anniversary of the Futurist Manifesto at the Pompidou Center.

31.01.20 Inatel - All Nigh Set w/ Stereo Addiction
Stereo Addiction. Village Underground Lisboa launches its own night promoting something that has been somehow lost in many clubs and nights: the all night sets. DJs playing the opening, the middle and the closing slots, giving them the opportunity to create something special with the audience, a story they want to tell. For the first night, Village Underground has chosen a long time well known techno duo from Lisbon, Stereo Addiction. The duo is Gustavo and John-E who have played together in London, Berlin, Serbia, Japan, Brasil and all the main festivals in Portugal. Gustavo is the producer of all events at Village and is behind the scenes of all the major techno festivals in Portugal including the dance temple at boom festival. As John-E continues to play for the most underground and great parties all over Lisbon. The duo is known for their close friendship and unique complicity, created throughout the more than 25 years playing together, raving dance floors and having fun.
Sexta-feira 31 Janeiro // 23h00-06h00 10€ consumiveis. Próximas: 27 Março, 29 Maio, 25 Setembro, 27 Novembro.

January 31st is Backward Day celebration, the day where the forbidden becomes allowed! 31.01.20 MINISTERIUM CLUB Aresta008 - Ferro (VBX) Ferro Thelmo GEAR

The Photographer Mixed Media in Three Parts by Philip Glass and Rob Malasch
@Piero Chiussi
The focus of t h i s production is English photographer Eadweard Muybridge(1830-1904). His passion for photography led to advances in motion studies. That passion spilled over into real life, when, in 1874, he murdered his wife's lover, but was acquitted. The original production premiered in the Netherlands in 1982, during which drama, music, images and dance were introduced in succession over three acts. Through drama and dance the story of Muybridge's crime and subsequent acquittal was told, accompanied by slides of his works and music composed by Philip Glass. Rob Malasch was later called on to rewrite the script. Ensemble KNM Berlin reworked The Photographer, premiering its version at the Museum for Photography Berlin in 2014. Choreographer SUN Shang-chi was invited to create an integrated play and dance piece. In real-time processed films of Muybridge's motion studies replace the static slides, while the music of Philip Glass remains a feature.
@Piero Chiussi
Philip Glass/ Composer Philip Glass is considered one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century. In the early 1960s, he studied with the legendary Nadia Boulanger and worked closely with the sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar. In 1967, he formed the Philip Glass Ensemble in New York. He still performs on keyboards as part of this ensemble. By 1974, Glass had completed a number of innovative projects, amassing a large collection of new music for his Ensemble and the Mabou Mines Theater Company. This period culminated in Music in Twelve Parts , and the landmark opera, Einstein on the Beach , for which he collaborated with Robert Wilson. Since Einstein, Glass has expanded his repertoire to include music for opera, dance, theater, chamber ensemble, orchestra, and film. His scores have received Academy Award nominations (Kundun, The Hours, Notes on a Scandal ) and a Golden Globe (The Truman Show). In 2015, he received the National Medal of Arts.
SUN Shang-chi / Direction & Choreography Taiwan born dancer and choreographer SUN Shang-chi was educated in ballet and contemporary dance at the National Academy of the Arts (now National Taiwan University of the Arts) in Taipei and earned a Master of Arts degree in Choreography from Ernst Busch University (Berlin). Since the founding of his company in 2007, he has created a diversity of works such as Walk Faster (2007), Dialogue II (2008), Nüwa (2009), 4.48/Ohne Titel (2010), Je.Sans.Paroles (2011) and Traverse (2011) which have been presented all over Europe and Asia (Maison de la Danse – Lyon, Festival Tanz im August – Berlin, Festival d'Avignon, and Taipei Arts Festival). Over the past few years, he has collaborated with a number of companies on commissioned works, including Sasha Waltz & Guests, Cloud Gate 2, Transitions Company London and Dance Company of City Theatre Osnabrück.
Ensemble KNM Berlin / Performer & Producer Ensemble KNM Berlin represents the active, current music scene of the metropolis of Berlin. Along with other students from the Hanns Eisler School of Music in the former East Berlin, Juliane Klein and Thomas Bruns founded this ensemble in 1988. It is now made up of ten musicians from all over Germany, Great Britain, Hungary and Switzerland. In close collaboration with international composers, authors, conductors, artists and producers, KNM has presented compositions, concert installations and projects worldwide. Its innovative programs result from a fascination with the unknown and constant discussions on the most essential topics of our time. This ensemble has performed more than 1,000 concerts since its creation.

False Pretenses
Epilogue
The day had finally come, after months and months of preparation. All the showers, the engagement party, and both the bachelor and bachelorette parties. The meetings, the venue walk-throughs, the dress fittings. Smiling to herself, Olivia fingered the invitation stuck to the fridge.
Michael and Diana Travis cordially invite you to celebrate the wedding of Clarisse Joy Travis And Liam James Payne May 24, 2017
A strong arm wrapped around her waist from behind, Harry’s undeniable scent filling her senses. “The car’s here, Love,” Harry breathed, placing a lingering kiss to the juncture of her neck and shoulder. Humming she turned her head to meet him for another sweet kiss, excitement pumping through her veins. She quickly grabbed her booties from the entryway, shoving her sock covered toes into them while she yelled for Harry to grab her bag. Rounding the corner of the marble hallway Harry held it up to show her, “Already got it.” “That’s why I love you,” she teased, reaching out for it when he passed to lock up their spacious flat. Harry just shook his unruly curls, tossing it over his shoulder with a wide grin. “I’ve got it,” he told her sweetly, patting her bum to get her out of the flat. “Somebody thinks they’re getting some tonight,” she teased coyly, though she wasn’t immune to Harry’s charms, attempting to hide her blush at his sweet action. “I know I am, you and champagne surrounded by all that mush and gush? I’ll probably have to fight you off me to even make it back to the hotel,” he told her cheekily, giving her a cheshire cat grin when she scoffed at his crude insinuation. She went to argue, to make some biting comment that would get him back. But after nearly a year of living together, Harry had figured her out. So before she could even open her mouth he shut her up with another tender kiss, using his free hand to brush her loose waves behind her ear. “I love you,” he told her sincerely, and she nodded, mumbling an ‘I love you too’ into his chest as he pulled her in for a quick hug. “C’mon, can’t keep the plane waiting,” Harry told her and they headed out, down the stairs and to the waiting car. Olivia pulled her coat tighter around her frame, the London chill still something she wasn’t quite used to. Harry managed with just a thin jumper, but Olivia still went out dressed as if she’d be caught in a snowstorm any minute. She checked the trunk once to ensure their luggage was all accounted for before sliding into the backseat of the sleek BMW. “We’ll be to Heathrow in about twenty,” the valet assured them, rolling up the privacy screen as he pulled away from the curb. Harry gave her hand one last little squeeze which she accepted gratefully, before scrolling through her phone to check that their flight wasn’t delayed. Seeing that everything was still in order she shot a text to Claire to let her know they were on their way, snuggling down into the heated seat and watching the city she’d come to adore go whizzing by.
__________
Stepping off the plane at LAX, the balmy air hit them like a wall. Both Harry and Olivia had the mind to pull off their overclothes on the plane, but she still felt the heat through her light sweater. Harry seemed to be faring better in his cotton t shirt, breathing in with a sigh of relief as they descended the stairs. Despite the heat, Olivia was feeling ecstatic, literally buzzing with energy. It was the middle of the afternoon in Los Angeles and she could just feel the energy of the busy city metropolis. With the wedding the following day, Olivia and Harry were meeting her mother at baggage claim and grabbing a drink with her before they headed to the rehearsal dinner. From there, the couple would go their separate ways, Olivia to the bridal suite and Harry to wherever the groomsmen were staying. Being the maid of honor from halfway across the world had been taxing to say the least, but she loved every second of it. Claire and Olivia had countless skype calls over the past eight months of Claire’s engagement, endlessly pouring over each detail with meticulous attention. She’d managed to come out once in April for the dress fitting and for the bachelorette party in Temecula where the bridal party had spent the weekend wine tasting and getting pampered. It had been a surprise for Claire, and she nearly cried in front of all six of her bridesmaids when they pulled up to the posh resort. Of course, she’d been there for Liam too, facetiming with he and Zayn the day that Liam went to pick out his tux. Both Harry and Olivia had even given him some help writing his vows for which he was endlessly grateful. Hand in hand the pair made their way down the arrivals corridor, Olivia making long strides to keep up with Harry’s gait. It seemed she wasn’t the only one excited to be back in California. They rounded the corner, following the brightly lit signs indicating baggage claim and stopping short when a familiar face came into view. The moment Olivia saw her mother, her eyes brimmed with happy tears, the woman was already in a mad dash toward her daughter, arms outstretched to receive her. “My baby!” her mom had blubbered quietly, kissing all over her daughter’s cheeks and chin, “I’ve missed you.” “I missed you too, Mom,” Olivia whispered, squeezing tightly to her mother’s small frame. “And Harry!” her mother cried again, weaseling out of her grasp to attack him with love and kisses as well. “How are you, Honey?” “Hello, Helen,” Harry said warmly, leaning down to kiss both of the older woman’s cheeks. “You look very nice.” “Oh this old thing?” Helen blushed, no more used to Harry’s charm than the day she met him. “How was your flight, kids?” “It was alright, long,” Olivia sighed, feeling the jet lag sitting in her bones. “Well let's get you a drink, darling,” her mother replied, taking the arm Harry put out for her and heading in the direction of guest parking.
___________
Tealights lined the pathway to the altar, the crash of the waves a perfect harmony to the lone violinist. Olivia measured her steps carefully, not wanting to teeter over in her sky high heels as she made her way down the grassy aisle. Everything was illuminated by fairy lights strung strategically around the intimate space and it felt like a dream. A perfect dream absolutely bursting with flowers and love and the salty smell of the ocean, everything her two best friends deserved to start their new life with. As she got closer she could clearly see Liam, arms crossed in front, nibbling on his full bottom lip. He met Olivia’s eyes and she saw they were shining with emotion, with absolute joy. Her heart almost burst as she returned the sentiment. She smiled and winked at a misty eyed Zayn as well before her eyes fell on Harry. Absolutely dashing in his well tailored tux and hair well groomed and soft. His lips split into a wide grin when he caught her eye, just waiting for her to look at him it seemed. Even after all this time she didn’t know how he did it, but her tummy swooped and her throat swelled with emotion when he blew her a subtle kiss, even after the thousand upon thousands of times she’d kissed him before. Olivia indulged a fantasy for a moment, striding down the aisle with eyes locked on her sweet love. That it was their wedding day, that they were surrounded by loved ones and elegant music to tie themselves together in the most binding way. With a soft smile she peered down, to the left hand holding her bouquet. A sparkling, elegant, simple diamond that promised one day soon it would be their turn. Harry’s blush when her gaze returned showed her he was thinking the same and a whole mess of butterflies released in her tummy as she took her place at the end of the aisle. The music stopped and Olivia could’ve started sweating with the anticipation. Suddenly, the whole five piece orchestra began to play, the swell of the wedding march filling the ceremony space. Rounding the corner, Claire and her father beamed with what could only be described as joy. How nice it must have been for the old man, to know he was giving his daughter away to a young man who loved her so perfectly, so completely and without boundary. Although Claire was absolutely radiant, Olivia couldn’t help but sneak a peek at Liam. Eyes welling with tears, he stood in awe of his soon to be wife. Olivia had to hold back a sob when Claire’s father passed her hand to Liam, unable to stop himself from wrapping the younger in a loving hug. A coo rang through the audience at the sweet gesture and she knew Claire was doing everything in her power to not ruin her perfectly done makeup. When the officiant called the ceremony to order, Olivia watched as Zayn reached forward to clap a hand to Liam’s shoulder, a private look of pride and love shared between the two best friends. The ceremony was beautiful, the words exchanged were pure and simple. Perfect for the couple who were so clearly meant for each other, words could never do them justice. Anyone could see the love that flowed between, not only their hearts, but souls, and there was an overwhelming sense of peace in the air. Like the universe had been conspiring this all along, and could finally breathe a sigh of relief that it’s work was complete. Their first kiss as man and wife was anything but peaceful however, a raucous shout rang out among the guests and cheers filled the intimate space. The night continued in such a fashion, loud and joyful and boisterous. Liam’s smaller family mixed surprisingly easily with Claire’s loud, massive, Italian family and it seemed that would never be a concern for the newly married couple. The reception area was just as elegant as the ceremony and Harry and Olivia excitedly took their places at the head table. Claire and Liam had specially arranged for them to be able to sit next to each other even though it wasn’t customary and they were grateful. After such a long day apart, and all the love that was thick in the air, they needed each other. Just to be able to sit as they were, as Claire’s father kicked off the evening with his speech, holding hands and sitting close enough to feel the other’s warmth was enough. It was crazy, Olivia often found herself thinking in moments like this, she lived with Harry, worked with Harry, spent almost every single day with Harry and yet the first thing she wanted to do after the ceremony was be next to him. They didn’t even have to speak, she just craved him being near and the way his fingers felt between her slender ones. With a soft kiss to her temple and a muttered ‘love you’, Olivia knew he felt the same. Within moments it felt, it was finally time for Olivia to give her speech. Harry gave one more squeeze to her clammy palm, and with a reassuring smile she rose to her feet. Clearing her throat and taking the microphone from the coordinator, she read from the little notecards she had prepared. “College was the time of my life, and i know many of the people in this room would agree. But no one would mean it half as much as i do,” she joked, causing several people in the room to chuckle. “Because college brought me the most incredible people i could ever ask for. Namely, the two people we’re here to celebrate today. As a maid of honor, I wish i could tell these long funny stories about Claire’s quest for love, have you all laughing about bad dates and minor heartbreaks that most maid of honor speeches probably contain. But i don't have those stories, because I knew Claire for a total of three hours before she met her Liam,” she giggled and once again the wide room was filled with the sound of laughter. Everyone it seemed, was just as intrigued by their instant chemistry. “But as their best friend,” she continued, now turning to face the couple, nearly cooing from how beautiful and in love they looked, “I’m so happy for that. I don't have funny anecdotes but i do have a first hand account of one of the most beautiful and pure love stories the universe has ever written.” “You two were like my parents in college,” she laughed, rolling her eyes when they both gave her mock disapproving looks, “No seriously, these two cooked for me, cleaned my house, Liam even drove me to work sometimes. Countless mornings i’d wake up to find these two laughing in the kitchen, puttering around and making Claire’s famous french toast. I was there when Liam knocked on our door the first time, didn’t even spare me a glance as he asked if we needed help moving in our furniture. I walked in on too many drunken snogs and kind of disgustingly sweet sober confessions of love. I have seen them laugh together, cry together, support each other and stay committed faithfully to each other in a way that is inspiring to everyone that knows them.” Locking eyes with Liam, a soft smile played on Olivia’s lips. “Liam, thank you for loving Claire the way you do. I’ll never forget the birthday that started with 100 long stemmed roses delivered to our doorstep. You cooked her breakfast and took her to get a massage and then organized every single person she had ever even mentioned liking to be in one room to surprise her for a party. You had been dating for six months at the time. I’ve watched you play nurse on our couch, when Claire has a bout of her infamous hay fever. Watching over her with care, making her grandma’s chicken soup, and playing with her hair in just the way she likes. When she didn’t get the internship she’d worked all summer for and you marched down to their offices to tell them all off for being tossers. She was mad as hell and wouldn't talk to you for three days but she secretly loved it. You protect her, you cherish her, you’ve never made her feel second best. She has known since day one that you only have eyes for her. Thank you for giving her the gift of your unwavering devotion.” When Olivia turned to Claire, she had to hold back a sob, the two friends saying so much in just a look as they had always done. “Claire, thank you for loving Liam the way you do. You cooked him nearly every meal for four years, i did the math and that’s roughly 3,240 plates of french toast. More than that you fed him with love and devotion. You cared for him, I remember so many nights he’d come home from his 13 hour days, after running to lecture and work and internships, and you’d stay up just to make sure he got home safe, or to give him a little back rub if he needed it. You bought him his first watch, one you’d saved up for months to get him, because you knew he wanted to look sharp at his first day of his internship. You bought groceries, went to all his hearings and trials, and made hundreds of flashcards. You love him deeply and you never let him go a day without showing him in all the things you do.” “I’d wish you all the happiness in the world, but I know you’ll get it. You were put on this earth to find and to love each other. To be each other’s support system and sense of home. Thank you for an amazing example of selfless love, and for the friendship you both have given me individually and together. I’m so lucky to know you and love you. Thank you.” Both Liam and Claire had tears in their eyes as the speech finished, jumping from their seats to envelop her in the way they always had. Arms wrapped tight around her frame they sponged her face with kisses, until the room was giggling and the whooping applause died down. The first dance followed, and after that dinner. Soon it was time to begin dessert and dancing and she felt a hand at her shoulder. Smiling down at her was Zayn, holding out a hand and asking Harry if he could take his fiance for a spin. “Of course, man,” Harry told him, “I think Claire’s grand mum's been eyeing me for a while anyway,” he teased cheekily and earning himself a tut and a light slap on the arm. “Behave,” Olivia teased sternly before taking the hand that her best friend held out for her. The song was slow, so the two mostly just stepped back and forth, Zayn never being much of a dancer anyway. “I miss you tons, Livy,” he confided sweetly, “How’s London treating you?” “It’s good, though I miss you all too. I really love it there!” “How could you not? Your flat is insane and your job is sick as hell!” Zayn told her, spinning her out and making her giggle. “I think the company I share it with makes it even better,” she smiled, letting Zayn take her hand and finger at the engagement ring there. “It’s stunning, babe. He did good didn’t he?” he asked. “Perfect, it’s exactly what I would’ve wanted.” “I’m happy for you,” he said sincerely, “I know things were rocky for a long while but I just know you’re it for him. He’s really proven himself ya know? I see the things he does for you and the way he looks at you. I mean any guy that’ll risk his career for a bird he wasn’t even properly datin’,” he joked. Olivia scoffed but let him continue. “He just- he treats you right and he’s bloody head over heels for you. That’s everything I could wish for you and I can’t wait for the wedding.” Zayn’s confession left Olivia in near tears. He’d never so blatantly laid out his feelings before and she could feel the sincerity and conviction in those words. They stopped dancing to share a meaningful hug. “We’re gonna find that girl for you next!” she told him cheekily. Though he and Penelope had been happy, they both went their separate ways shortly after Christmas, deciding that they weren’t entirely right for each other. “I’m going’ to see Niall in August, maybe you and Harry can fly up and bring a fit British bird for me?” he wiggled his eyebrows, causing them both to laugh with their heads tipped back. “I’ll keep my eyes open! The model in Harry’s last video was pretty spectacular…” she trailed off. “Don’t tease me!” Zayn groaned, both of them falling into a comfortable silence after their laughter had died down. “May I have this dance?” said a voice, a low syrupy voice that still sent a chill up her spine no matter how many times she heard it. Zayn conceded with a kiss to her cheek and soon she was staring into limitless green eyes that sparkled just for her. “Claire’s grand mum tried to make a pass at me,” he snickered, causing Olivia to roll her eyes and laugh. “You’re always trying to make me jealous,” she pouted, Harry pulling her in tighter by the waist and poking his thumb at her protruding bottom lip. “Don’ worry,” he cooed, “told her I only had eyes for my fiance.” His wink and the way he said fiance made her butterflies reappear, amazed that after so long together he still had this effect on her. “Your speech was very heartfelt, my love. I hope I treat you as well as Liam does Claire. I wanna protect you and cherish you and all that too.” “You do,” she giggled, seeing his protective nature come out, “You just like to tease more ‘cause you’re an immature dick.” “Hey!” he pouted, “It’s all in good fun, ain’t it?” “I wouldn’t want you any other way,” she promised. “I can be serious,” he defended, reaching out to jut her chin so she met his eyes, “I’m proper serious about you. Enough to make you my wife and all that.” “I can’t wait,” she gushed, still feeling like floating every time they spoke of their impending nuptials. It had taken so much to get to where they were, but she wouldn’t change a second. Harry had never been her plan, not those first few months she knew him at the old cafe. He was cheeky and silly, almost never serious. He didn’t have a grand plan and he didn’t try to whisk her off her feet and carry her back to his sparkling castle. No, he was much better than that. He made their house a home. He sacrificed things for her, and made her a priority. He kept his promises and gave incredible foot rubs and kisses that still made her heart stop. Harry pushed her and challenged her and believed in her. He made her better than she ever imagined she could be and she knew she’d done the same for him. “I love you, my Olive,” he promised, and love her he did.

American Princess
By: SassyShoulderAngel319
Fandom/Character(s): YouTube - Dan Howell/danisnotonfire feat. Phil Lester/AmazingPhil
Rating: PG
Original Idea: Modern Royalty AU! (Also I watched Cinderella again)
Notes: (Masterlist)(About Me) This was originally gonna be a short series, and it may still become one, but for now it’s just a one-shot.
^^^^^
The one upside of being royalty was the parties—even if half of the guests spent half the time Snapchatting the event instead of paying attention or participating. Luxurious balls with each detail attended to and good company. Not to mention it was hilarious to see some of the nobility drink too much and see usually serious men and women tipsily make their way through the night.
Dan stood on the balcony overlooking the ballroom. The peace summit had been going poorly, but the ball was going to lift everyone’s spirits and make them feel better so that, hopefully, the summit would improve.
Delegates from all countries of the world milled over the ballroom floor, hosted by the UK. Dan still felt too young to be king, but the crown had been passed onto him, and he was going to do the best he could. He looked around at the assembled crowd—trusted advisor standing behind him—and narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “There’s someone missing,” he told Phil, wiping his sweating palms on his trousers.
“Who?” the advisor wondered.
“The American delegation.”
That was the moment the doors reopened, and in walked a single girl—who looked much different than usual. At the peace summit she’d been wearing skinny jeans and baseball shirts with combat boots or Converse—and her hair in a raggedy braid because she didn’t care how she looked. Usually she sported an American-flag design somewhere. Dan had never seen her look like this.
Her long, thick hair fell in a single curtain to her waist and her eyes seemed more intense than usual, enhanced by her makeup. He couldn’t see her shoes but he could guess that she wore heels of some sort. A tiara of diamonds rested gently on the top of her head, tucked snugly in her brown curtain.
But her dress was what really caught the eye.
It was the grandest ball gown Dan had ever seen—a rich shade of violet with an enormous skirt and tiny crystals all over it. There were several layers of tulle over the silk base and a tightly-fitted corset bodice. The whole gown seemed to glimmer and glisten and sparkle in the light. There was a beauty to it, of course, but also a sense of gracefulness. Despite the princess wearing it being one of the clumsiest people Dan had ever met—besides his advisor Phil, of course.
“There she is,” Phil remarked, almost sarcastically. Of course she had to make an entrance.
Dan rushed off the balcony, down the marble steps, and into the main body of the ballroom. He strode across the floor to where she was standing, alone, near the door. He extended his hand to her and gave her a slight bow.
“Dance with me and pretend like the world doesn’t exist,” Dan instructed the American princess. “Your Highness.”
She smiled. “It would be my honour, Your Majesty,” she replied, taking his hand.
At that signal, the orchestra began to play. The American princess and the British king started to waltz over the floor. “So, princess, how are you enjoying London?” he asked conversationally as she struggled a bit to keep up with his much longer legs.
She chuckled. “I’ve been enjoying it immensely. London is one of the only places I have ever truly wanted to travel to. I love the culture and the rich history and the scenery and the people and the sense of humour. I’d love to live here. But, the downside to our lives is that we can’t just live wherever we want. I have to stay in the country I may one day have to help my older brother run. I can’t be here. Unless—” She cut herself off but they both knew what she was going to say. She couldn’t stay in London unless she married a member of the British royalty—and Dan was pretty much the only one left.
“And what do you think of the peace summit?”
“Oh let’s not talk about politics tonight,” she implored. Dan couldn’t help but smirk.
“Okay,” he relented. “But, if I may ask, why not send your older brother here? You seem to spend half of the talks sitting with your knee on the table scrolling through Tumblr on your phone.”
The American princess snickered. “Oh, Your Majesty, I am listening to everything everyone says. My parents decided not to send my brother because he’s a hothead with very strong opinions and a temper. I’m much more moderate, relaxed, and willing to listen to what other people have to say. Not to mention I’m more logical than he is—and think outside the box for solutions to problems.”
Dan nodded understandingly, sweeping her out of the way of the edge of the onlookers. The first dance was reserved for the host monarch and whomever they chose to dance with—in this case, King Dan of the UK and the princess of America. Once they finished, everyone else could dance.
It was a stupid tradition that happened at every single peace summit for the past three hundred years—neither Dan nor the American princess liked it.
Which was the sole reason Dan had been reluctant to host the summit in London.
But with the clumsy American princess in his arms as they twirled over the marble floor, he found he didn’t have to worry as much as he thought he would. She was small and fit perfectly in his arms. So even though he was so much taller than her, he could guide her through the gentle waltz without too much trouble. She was quite adept at following him and seemed to know what he was going to do before he knew. She had almost perfect rhythm and kept up well without losing her steps.
When the orchestra led the waltz to a graceful close, Dan spun the princess under his arm and bent her back over his leg, letting her hair hang in open air as the violin music faded against the acoustics of the ballroom.
The next song came on and was a bit livelier. Dan popped the American princess back upright and bowed to her as the other delegations and attendees swarmed the floor to dance. This song wasn’t played by the orchestra—instead the DJ started a very popular song. With the modern music clashing with ball gowns and tuxedos, Dan felt it looked a bit like a secondary school prom.
“Thank you for dancing with me!” Dan shouted over the blasting speakers.
“Well, thank you for asking me!” she called back with a smile.
Dan glanced over both of his shoulders at the rest of the people. “Come with me! I want to show you something!” he suggested, offering her his hand. She raised one eyebrow and took it, letting him weave her through the mass of people on the dancefloor and out of the grand ballroom.
They wove through the palace and out onto a balcony. A light breeze fluttered the tulle on the princess’s dress and the tiny flyaway hairs on the top of Dan’s head.
London sprawled out before them—the massive metropolis glittered with light like the stars above them. The princess looked fondly out to the city while Dan watched her. There was an innocent, enchanted expression on her pretty face. She looked like she should one day run America. Dan had heard stories growing up about her father’s younger sister when she was young—a bit of a wild one with a plastic surgery addiction—and saw none of that princess in the one standing before him on his favorite balcony besides the one just outside his bedroom. The princess he watched stare in wonder and delight at the city was a relatively normal kid with a dose of common sense more than most of the other dignitaries.
“Y’know…” he started, jarring the girl from whatever reverie of London she was in. She turned to look at him with eyebrows raised expectantly. “If the message came directly from me… I could convince your parents to let you stay in the city for a while after the summit is over. Under my supervision and protection, of course.” The princess couldn’t help but give him a sarcastic expression.
“They would never agree to that. I’m not even the heir to the country but they still want me to learn how to run it.”
“What if… what if I gave them a legitimate reason to keep you in the UK for a while?”
“I don’t know if you could come up with one legitimate enough for them. They’re quite insistent on me learning as much as I can about the country in case something happens to my brother—leaving me to be queen.”
Dan cleared his throat awkwardly. “Would they agree if I said I wanted to… court you?”
That pulled all of her sarcasm and skepticism up short. She blinked in surprise and looked up at him, her eyes glimmering in the light from the city and stars. “They, uh… they might,” she admitted. If there was one thing her parents wanted more than her learning how to run America so that it wasn’t run into the ground by her hothead of a brother, it was to marry her off to an equally powerful ruler, guaranteeing her to become a queen.
Her parents were very political.
“But, they’d have to actually see us… courting in order to believe it. And I couldn’t ask you to do that,” she remarked.
“No. No. You wouldn’t have to ask,” Dan put in quickly. “I, er… I would like to court you.”
The American princess’s lips parted in surprise. “I… I… okay!”
