Mephisto & Praxina - A Relationship Analysis

Because part of me wishes that the twins' dynamic had been more explored in the show, while Mephisto was still "alive".

There are honestly so many scenes, especially in season 2, where you could feel the main underlying issues between them, but they were never actually adressed or explored.

Also, feel free to add your own thoughts, maybe stuff that I missed, or things you disagree with as well.

Let's start with this scene, from Cute As A Doll, which I'm surprised not more people are talking about:

So, Praxina gets hurt by Auriana's blast, and Mephisto immediately stops his chase for Iris to teleport next to his sister, to make sure she's alright.

Aaaaanddd- she yells at him for caring/worrying, telling him to just go after Iris.

LOOK AT HIS FACE BRO. Homeboy was truly worried, but then immediately gets back in the game.

It's easy to just look at the dismissive and "careless" way in which Praxina treats Mephisto most of the time, and rule her off as "heartless". However, this sentiment seems to also be present when HE tries to "connect" or worries about her.

We see this again in Forget You:

She sees attachments and emotions as a sign of weakness and vulnerability, and clearly doesn't allow herself to feel it and lashes out whenever her brother does.

This refusal to accept love and affection is usually born out of an inherent lack of trust in people. It comes from a place of fear. She seems to prefer to remain impartial and formal as much as possible, regardless of how much her brother (or anyone else, for the matter) wishes to get close to her.

When it comes to other people, I believe she simply doesn't trust that the gestures of affection are real/genuine.

Good!Praxina, in Forget You I believe, was less of a "possibly redeemed" Praxina and more of a "blank page" Praxina, as in, what she would've been like had none of the Gramorr or the other bad stuff happened.

Still, let's not forget that Good!Praxina still clearly had some concerning instincts, so some of her less pleasant characteristics like her destructive behavior, lack of empathy, difficulty accepting affection and praise, and connecting with people, were probably already there since the beggining.

Iris said it herself:

Remember, Good!Praxina still didn't like the idea of helping people when the girls first tried to teach her how to be a good person; Only AFTER being exposed to good influences did she actually begin to redirect her energy torwards "good" goals, and I think this proves that, in a different, more positive enviromnent, she would've definetly turned out differently.

But, alas- she didn't, so here I am, writing this big ass psychological assessment. Which is mostly her fault.

Also Mephisto clearly has some issues of his own when it comes to how his sister treats him (which, let's be honest, while I wouldn't call it abusive, she definetly isn't an easy person to care about).

Also the fact that she seems to think he's incapable of doing anything right definetly bothers him more than he lets on.

It's easy to laugh these moments off but there's definetly something much deeper going on.

And again. and this one was fucked up

And in many other times.

Oh- and the fact that she always blames him for everything. Which is another one of Praxina's biggest flaws: an inability to admit fault or take any sort of accountibility. Aaand shifting the blame.

Which he knows, and this is clearly something that he takes and takes, until he snaps.

This moment in If You Can't Beat Them was also really telling on how he actually feels about how his sister never actually shows any appreciation for his contributions, and seems to think he's weaker and less capable of reason as she is.

I genuinely do not know what goes through Praxina's brain to make her do this. I don't know wether she actually genuinely believes he's stupid and fucks everything up or not.

And Gramorr, although he doesn't outright show much preference for Praxina in spite of Mephisto, seems to share the sentiment, given that he appears to be slightly less patient/harsher towards him than his sister.

What I can say is that Praxina definetly believes that he is the weakest link between them (which might seem like it's true at first glance, but I wouldn't be so sure as to state it), which, given the previous statement, might also be a result of Gramorr himself thinking/saying it, since they've probably been training under his wing for quite a long time, which would make her (and Mephisto) easily influenced by his opinion, as an authority figure.

And he might pretend it doesn't effect him, but we all know that deep down it does, and that he's kinda insecure despite all his bravado.

I think Mephisto's always been more sensitive and more "emotionally-inclined" than his sister, even before Gramorr. I believe that both twins have the potential to be good, but Mephisto is definetly more "hardwired" for it than Praxina.

And we already know what she thinks about that: emotion=weakness.

And part of her wants to keep reminding him she's better too. The girl's got a big ego to stroke.

Mephisto also seems to have more morals than his sister.

We can see that throughout the show he's helped the princesses sometimes: Iris, with whom he teamed up with to save his sister in If You Can't Beat Them, in which he even told her he'd be honored to serve her as queen of Ephidea, had circunstances been different, which I truly believe he meant;

And Carissa, in Statue Game, who he ALSO teamed up with to save his sister, and who, let's not forget, he gave the other evil amulet back to, so that the princesses could reverse the spell that turned that human girl into stone.

And when Gramorr got the last gem, Mephisto seemed to actually be horrified by what was happenning.

He clearly wasn't totally fine with enslaving the entire planet.

Praxina, on the other hand, seemed pretty okay with it.

Ecstatic even.

She's relishing in what's happening, that's what she wants. To bend other to her will, to be feared rather than loved, to have power over others.

Maybe not what she needs, but what she WANTS.

Mephisto realizing that is GOLD from a storytelling prespective.

I feel like he looked at her in hopes she'd be as concerned as he was, that they were on the same page about the situation, only to find her- well, laughing. I joked about this being his "oh shit, these people are actually evil" moment, but I think part of him was only surprised with Praxina. Maybe he hadn't realized just how far this "lifestyle" had actually shaped his sister.

We know for sure that Mephisto has higher levels of empathy than Praxina. And common sense. This is why I always disagree when people say that Praxina is smarter than Mephisto. She might be more "logical" and "rational", but neither of those things equate to cleverness. Mephisto seems to be more astute and more intuitive.

Him starting to realize Gramorr was probably not gonna give them shit is a great example of this.

Which Praxina did NOT even think about. She was on a high, thinking about all the power they were gonna have now that Gramorr was free and back in action. Miss girl, you are delusional.

Honestly Praxina's fatal flaws deserve their own separate post.

Because let's be clear: I'm trying to debunk all of the twin's relationship issues, and everytime, it's clear who's actually responsible for everything going badly in the emotional realm.

I love her but she IS the problem. Not saying Mephisto is a poor innocent baby who never did anything wrong his whole life (I'm looking at you, lolirock fandom). He definetly has a lot of flaws and bad traits himself, but he's not the one to blame for anything regarding his and his sister's relationship.

To conclude,

THIS is normal sibling behaviour.

All the rest I showed above this SHOULD. NOT. BE.

This is not me saying they have a bad relationship, but I am saying that they don't have a fantastic one either.

Also, I blame dark magic too. The Team has confirmed it makes them more irritable, so there's that too.

They really care about each other, and I don't doubt that BOTH of them would do anything to keep the other safe. But they got lots of unspoken stuff to talk about.

And are both in desperate need of therapy

Time for character analysis and talk about my favorite lolirock character

(lolirock spoilers!!)

Praxina is one of the best characters to analysing from psychological point of view. Idk I just love doing that with every character, especially with my favorites. I will talk about her actions and not only.

We know she's very affirmed and firm person who is really focused on her goals. She has a lot of her "mean impulses" and humiliate people with pleasure. She's extremaly cold, arrogant, vindictive, proud and overbearing. She bears an inexplicable, immense resentment towards the princesses, which is her strength but much more of weakness because her anger toward the princesses blinds her so much. Let's see that Mephisto doesn't hate princesses that much (if at all but I will do a separate post for him) so Praxina probably has her own reason which is not caused by black crystal or stuff like that (if you know what I mean).

The thing we also know for sure that's her soft spot for her brother despite her rude and cold personality. Definetely her relation with Mephisto is really important for her character.

The first thing I want to mention is her irrational hatred for princesses, especially Iris. (I will talk about Iris now cause I didn't notice that strong feeling of contempt to any princess). Without any guilt she can turn her life into hell, kill all of her love ones and derive joy from her suffering. And there is the only one thing my mind gave me and it's ENVY. Strong feeling of envy.

Don't even try to tell me that she wasn't even a little envy about her.

"You're like such a super amazingly awesome and powerful force for good"

We all can agree Praxina definetely can have tendencies to jealousy and envy. It fits her a lot and we see that in the show.

Iris is how Auriana described "smart and pretty" + really powerful. Even Auriana said she wants to be like her so why Praxina doesn't?

It can be caused of her visible low self-esteem which is visible in the show. Especially in "Forget you" when she lost memory her features she doesn't want to be visible was showed.

Does she hates herself that much she punched her reflection.

"These clothes looks strange. I must look ridiculous in them".

Despite her many flaws and vile actions I don't think she's without heart and feelings at all. And it looks like she doesn't wants or doesn't wants to be bad anymore but she probably see being "good" as a weakness, and in the deepest part in her heart she hates herself for it (tf she literally punched her reflection). And remember she kept the brancelet! Praxina we all know how you feel.

The fact that she doesn't know how it is when someone is nice to you and when you have a friends because they were probably neglected or abused (or both) so princesses had to explain her it like she was a child. It makes me upset sm.

Another thing is her perfectionism and inability to handle failure. She puts all the blame for all failures on Mephisto and has anger problems to that extent that he commits physical and mental violence.

She was so frustrated with her loose that she used her shanila which girls used during very strong feelings. Iris was able to use her shanila when her friends and love "died" so what Praxina felt?

Let's see that everything she do is mastered to perfection. Dancing, fencing, spells, everything.

And really important thing is her and Mephisto's relation. I hope I don't have to tell Praxina also loves Mephisto with all her heart and she would do anything for him and die for him too the same as he would (he did actually...). She loves him like so much, see she could/can feel Mephisto's feeling and she's really sensitive for his feelings in "Forget You". But remember she's ready to kill Nathaniel and ruin Iris life because one – from love to Mephisto, and two – she can't accept his death so the best thing that she can do is puts blame on and throw up her anger on her enemies. I won't be suprised if she will regret this at some point but she won't be able to go back and she will reach a point of no return.

And that's one of the tragic flaws of her. She's impulsive and reckless as hell. So she finally must bear the consequences. Even when her reaction to Mephisto's death (or maybe not... I hope...) and denial of certain things and situations is just kind of coping mechanism but it's still not an excuse.

So if we're on a point of coping mechanism we can start talk about her disgust to loving feelings and relationships with people. We don't have any twins official backstory for now but even here, observing Praxina's behaviour, I can tell her (and Mephisto's to ofc but we talk about Praxina now) childhood weren't the best and her parents or someone who took them under his care (Gramorr, ekhem) didn't gave them enough love or attention.

Praxina has really avoidant attachment style and she tries to deny feelings such as love, attachment or sadness. She would never ask for help no matter how much she would need it. Praxina wants to be and be seen as independent, self-sufficient and not detached from people but she doesn't. She is very dependent and attached to her brother but she doesn't want to show it. She probably had to be tough from young age and never got an emotional warm and the only person she was close to presumably died.

To sum up. Praxina IS bad person but she also is very full of complexes girl, with narcissistic (NPD) traits, who probably never experienced real love, hug, emotional warm and was teaching to be cold, serious and tough from youngest so she's insecure about her feelings and feels kind of shame, weakness about showing love and caring.

What do you wanna talk about?

I love tmnt and rottmnt with my whole heart but I feel like I'm not doing any of my other interests justice since that and Ninjago are basically ALL I post about, so I decided i would just make one huge posts with all of my interests just so you guys know what I like (and could maybe send me asks about so I can add more to my hcs series? The whole reason I came to tumblr was just to have another platform to freak out about the things I love so feel free to rant to/with me if anything you like is on this list

(I was gonna add what YouTubers I watch but felt that they were kinda separate, but I can definitely list those too in a seperate post if anybody asks)

I need to get this off my chest.

The evolution of the magical girl protagonist has baffled me so much. I have been watching various shows throughout the years with the magical girl theme and the female lead is ever changing and while some may complain that most shows are the same, I beg to differ.

If you compare Usagi Tsukino with every magical girl that came after, then that just makes you blind to the various girls that came before her like Cutey Honey! Or watch Precure if you want a different leader with a different struggle every season! My favorites are Tsubomi, Nodoka, Miyuki, Ichika, Hana, Natsumi, and Love! There's also Madoka and Iroha from the Madoka Magica Series who I also love.

The French magical girls always seem to have the world on their shoulders continually. Iris from Lolirock was not the cliche princess I thought she was going to be. She took action and struggled with her identity and leadership. Marinette from Miraculous also surprised me with how mature she is becoming. I may have to make a separate post for her, but she has surprised me greatly.

Italian magical girls get the constant comparison game. Winx versus W.I.T.C.H is such an old debate that needs to die. I do, however, find it funny that both main leads are redheads. Bloom is a good protagonist, but she has flaws. Yes, she took up most of the show, but certain seasons like 2 and 3 really bring out her best qualities. I like how she had to discover her true power and grow alongside her friends. Will from W.I.T.C.H also was a strong female lead that struggled with a divorce and a move! Not to mention, her powers weren't fully developed until season 2(unless you read the comics). The thing about Will is that her character embraces the fact that she is still a young girl trying to find her place.

Canadian magical girls are quite odd. I like the fact that they're vastly different from American or Japanese magical girls with their premises, but are forgotten by the mainstream! Anybody remember Mysticons or Trollz? The main leader in Mysticons, Arkayna, has got to be one of my favorite leaders ever created. Born and raised to be a fighter, she was stubborn, strict, and had a burden on her shoulders due to her being the reason her parents were turned to stone. I do love the fact that she took the leadership role quickly, but still constantly bickered with Zarya, another girl on her team. For Trollz, Amethyst was my second favorite behind Onyx, but I loved how she cared for all her friends. When saving the world, she always puts them first.

Which leaves me to the American magical girls. Say what you want about them being copies of other great shows, I love the American ones! Star Butterfly was my favorite Disney girl for the longest time because I loved that we grew up with her. She went from reckless royal to a leader that puts her people first. Her character development was slow, but eventually she gained my love. The less said about She-Ra, the better since it disappointed me. I do, however, love Adora so much. The identity search aside, I liked how she was a reluctant to be the savior at first, but even she knew it was her destiny. Then she screwed destiny and did her own way!

I know other countries have magical girls, but I wanted to get these off my chest! I hope to find more people liking the lead girls more and maybe we can all agree that magical girls have gotten better too!

Top 10 Difficult Battles in Lolirock

Typically, battles aren’t too difficult for the princesses of Lolirock. Mephisto and Praxina are generally not the brightest people and the princesses have a large array of spells at their disposal. Not to mention the powerful Crystal Luxtra and Crystal Quinta spells and also the two other princesses that occasionally come to help. But, despite the vast advantage the princesses have, there are certain battles where the advantage clearly falls to the side of the enemy.

And that’s what we’re counting down here. What ten battles do Mephisto and Praxina have the clear upper-hand? Find out after the break.

10. If You Can’t Beat ’Em

I know it seems kind of strange that I would put in an episode where the princesses don’t even fight Mephisto and Praxina on this list, but trust me, I do have a good reason. The only enemy they have to face is one black crystal monster, which to the unobservant eye, doesn’t seem like all that much. However, it is a very capable monster.

Despite being only one enemy, it did take out Praxina, Talia, and Auriana pretty easily. If I’m being perfectly honest, it can’t be easy to beat an enemy whose victory can be assured with a flick of their tongue. Fortunately for Iris and Mephisto, once they’re sure that the others won’t get hurt, actually killing it only took Crystemsabris and Mephisto’s sword.

It’s this weakness that lands this battle at number ten. At this point, the winner of the battle isn’t necessarily the stronger one, but whoever didn’t mess up first.

9. Smart

If I’m going to be perfectly honest, most of the entries on this list are going to be from Season 2. It’s not that the battles from Season 1 are bad, but Mephisto and Praxina’s strategies do improve in the second season and Gramorr does get involved more as time goes on.

Of course, that doesn’t mean the twins can’t have a stroke of genius in season 1 and this episode shows what they can do if given the right resources. Just like our number 10 spot, the only real enemy is one black crystal monster. Unlike the one from the last entry, this one is able to predict the princesses’ movements based on hours of information collected about them.

The way it was defeated is also one of my personal favorites. It couldn’t have been easy for Talia and Auriana to switch fighting tactics like that. Not only does it require the introverted Talia to be wild and spontaneous, but also for Auriana to both understand and implement textbook fighting strategies. It’s due to this valiant effort on the parts of these characters that this battle was an entry on this list.

8. Amateur Hour

When people talk about episodes where a good character is turned evil, they always talk about No Thanks For The Memories, Wicked Red, Dancing Shoes, and maybe Amaru-niverse. But, people tend to forget the one where the person they were trying to help turns against them.

In this episode, Mark the Magnificent is confronted with the option to use Ephedian Magic. Desiring its power, he decides to take the wand, which grants him a fraction of Gramorr’s magic. Even though we don’t know how much magic Mark is able to use, it doesn’t change the fact that he backed the princesses into a corner. We also can’t forget that, just like our number ten spot, they can’t just attack him, lest they hurt Mark.

The solution is pretty simple, at least compared to the previous two spots. Auriana uses her Ribbon of Volta to hold the wand in place and Iris casts a spell to destroy it.

7. I Want My LTV

In this episode, Mephisto and Praxina took the princesses’ jewelry and their magic, leaving them completely powerless. The advantage that the twins have is evident to anyone who has seen just how powerful their magic can be. All the princesses can do at this point is evade.

However, it was this advantage that ultimately became the twins’ undoing. They assumed that their victory was assured, so they acted cocky and overconfident. They also kept making mistakes, like not using the princesses’ jewelry against the princesses, Mephisto releasing the princesses’ magic, getting distracted by Iris and Auriana’s attacks, and forgetting Talia’s jewelry, allowing her to get it back.

The princesses took advantage of the twins’ incompetence and prevented Gramorr from getting their jewelry.

6. Loli-Lime Sublime

In a similar fashion to the previous entry, the princesses are unable to use their magic. This isn’t due to anything the twins have done, but rather a natural phenomenon that causes magic to act unpredictably. Using this as an opportunity, the twins infiltrate the princesses’ house to steal the Zenavian Book of Spells.

For whatever reason, the eclipse doesn’t seem to be affecting Zenavian’s spells, which gives the twins a clear advantage over the powerless princesses. All they can do to win is to wait for the eclipse to be over.

And unlike our last entry, Mephisto and Praxina only really make one mistake. The mistake being that they didn’t just leave once they had the book. I think that they wanted to impress Gramorr. I mean, the mission was to get the book, but if they got the book and captured the princesses, they’d definitely get that promotion that Mephisto keeps talking about.

5. Stop In The Name Of Lev

Now we get into the real meat of this countdown. This is the first episode on this list where the princesses (with the help of Lev) have to face off against Gramorr himself. I don’t think I really have to say why this deserves to be on this list. Even with the help of Lev, Gramorr is still the big bad of the series. Episodes that had them helped by Ephedians (like Jodan, Ellira, and Morgaine, and definitely Lyna and Carissa) weren’t considered for this list because they gave the princesses the advantage.

But Gramorr isn’t like that. Any help that the princesses get will only help to equalize their power and even then all they can really do is hold Gramorr off. Also, they were only able to “win” once they were able to escape through the portal. They just had to survive until then.

4. Home

If I’m being completely honest, deciding between this one and the one before it was pretty hard. I mean, both involved the princesses fighting against Gramorr. Notable difference being that Lyna, Carissa, and Izira are helping the princesses instead of Lev. But, ultimately I felt that a number of factors gave Gramorr the upperhand here.

For starters, Iris, Talia, and Auriana are unable to transform, which makes them significantly weaker than they should be. Secondly, Lev is helping Gramorr. And finally, Gramorr is able to use the crown’s magic, although it is only half-complete. This narrowly brings this battle above the one from the previous entry, but only by a slight margin.

3. Super Cute Kitten

You do not know true fear until you’ve seen Banes fight.

Nobody would expect an episode titled Super Cute Kitten to make it anywhere near this list, but here we are. In this episode, the princesses have to fight Banes without the ability to transform. Fortunately, Amaru came there just in time to give their magic back to them.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to help them against Banes. Throughout the battle, they only were able to attack him six times and only one of those attacks hit. The only attack that hit him directly was the Crystal Quinta, which he survived, meaning he didn’t even need to evade any of the other attacks.

And how do they win? I actually don’t know. After Banes was hit by the Crystal Quinta, he just teleports back to the throne room. Even though it’s very likely that the spell did do massive damage and he returned just to heal himself, it appears more like he was sparing them, like some kind of merciless god who calls himself merciful. It’s like Banes is just toying with them.

Bit of personal opinion, but there is nothing in this show that’s scarier than this battle. The music, the atmosphere, the fact that none of the attacks are working, the fact that their defenses aren’t really helping, the fact that Banes doesn’t even talk and therefore gives us no sense of levity, and the hopeless of the situation all help to make this a very memorable battle.

2. Crowning Glory

Of course the final battle against Gramorr would be really high on this list. Not only does Gramorr have the completed crown, but he also survived the Crystal Quinta attack and forced Iris to use her Shanilla. Only in the most dire situations would Iris call on her Shanilla and this definitely was it.

Gramorr’s fighting style actually changed between his previous ones and this one. He seems to be implementing Lyna’s modus operandi of “Use the least amount of energy to defeat the enemy.” Nowhere is this more apparent than when he literally just lifts each of his fingers up, which levitates each of the princesses.

It’s not until Iris activates her Shanilla that he puts in more effort to win. Unfortunately, it’s in vain as Iris can counter quite a few of his attacks. But even with Shanilla, Gramorr still has the upperhand and if it wasn’t for Iris’s friends, she would’ve lost.

Oh, and by the way, if the winner wasn’t guaranteed by the fact that this is a kids’ show, the fact that everyone on Gramorr’s side had already left and everybody on Iris’s side stayed is a great indicator of who would ultimately win.

1. Princess Brenda

What else could’ve topped this list?

Mephisto and Praxina use the Xeris Medallion to wreck up everything. Nothing the princesses did had any effect on them. All they could do is evade the twins’ attacks.

But, what makes this different from, say, Super Cute Kitten or Crowning Glory? Well, first there’s achievement. Neither Banes nor Gramorr really achieved anything with their powers, but Mephisto and Praxina actually captured two of the three princesses with their Procella spell, which is quite possibly the darkest spell in the whole show. This only helps to fuel the hopelessness of the situation.

I said before that the battle from Super Cute Kitten was the scariest in the show, but this one is a very close second. Princess Brenda shows just what a kids’ show is capable of if you just give them a “reset button” to fix all of the problems created by the villains.

Yeah, the situation was so dire (and irreversible with conventional means) that Iris literally had to call on her Shanilla, steal the medallion back, and turn back time. She. Turned. Back. Time. I mean, what else could she have done? Desperate times call for desperate measures.

If Iris was unable to use that time spell, Mephisto and Praxina would’ve won. Simple as that. That’s why Princess Brenda, without a doubt, is number one on this list.

okay here's some more ideas that could've been in lolirock

• the concept of shanila really needs to be fleshed out more. if iris' OP version is for magical girls who have an enormous amount of raw power, then what do other girls get, and why can't they call back their shanila the way iris does? in fact, shanila is just supposed to be magical puberty. with this context in mind, the raw magic during shanila could be considered as wild hormones, especially since iris' extravagant display of power is usually brought out in emotionally charged situations. are you saying she could just up her hormones to go slice off the top of a mountain?? shanila is such a confusing deus ex machina.

• do you how much potential iris' voice as a large part of her magic, and love being the source of her magic has?? if they actually applied these concepts, iris' can easily be powered when she helps out others (agape), or extends love to friends (philia), family, and romantic interest (all forms of love are equal, periodt, we don't put romance on a pedestal in this household). her powers can be amplified by enacting her love language, whether she's giving or recieving love (giving usually gets a bigger power boost out of her magic though, bc the love you give comes back to you). if she ever loses her powers/has her powers weakened she can reignite them with self-love (philautia). she can get boosts from oracle gem missions based on any form of love.

and let's not start on how philautia has a dark side too! dark iris could've represented narcissism, an unhealthy form of self-love, and could've been brought about when iris gets tired of helping others and just wants time to herself for once but the mission to defeat gramorr and find the oracle gems won't let her. it'll drive her to the dark side with help from the evil twins! in the end they could even get a lesson out of it, to make time for yourself, and have self-care as a priority. would make for an awesome episode!

and just to not make iris so op, magic based on love has flaws too. emotions influence her magic a lot, and she gets weaker when she has arguments/strained relationship problems with friends and/or lover, or when she gets rejected by someone she loves. the solution to keeping her magic stable is to focus on agape and philautia equally, so the impact of her emotions on her magic will be minimal.

as for her voice, iris can have more vocal-based spells, like her clear note forming a shield in the first episode. the pitch and tone of her voice can control the magnitude of her crystals and the impact of her spells. the flip side of this, though, is that if iris ever loses her voice for a while due to too much singing, her powers are weakened, but not as much as when her voice was taken away permanently that one time. since her voice is a huge part of her magic, she could also be at a disadvantage bc she needs to voice most of her spells to make them work. she can't do powerful spells without her voice.

• their pop-star disguise is actually genius. i think Lolirock becoming a band is THE perfect cover. talia and auriana used it to find iris (though it was pretty risky, since they went searching without ever knowing if iris liked to sing and with no assurance she would even show up to auditions), the trio can use it as an explanation for magical activity. see weird sparkly outbursts? nbd, they're just testing some new special effects. need to go somewhere for an oracle gem mission, like maybe the person in need is a celebrity? their popularity as a band can gain them access anywhere. plus iris can get extra power boosts from the love from and for her fans, as well as strengthen and practise the part of her magic associated with her voice by regularly controlling the "special effects" on stage with her singing.

• talia, by all means, should always be up-front and center during battles, as the most experienced and most powerful princess in the trio. she's also unofficially the leader and strategist who also manages the band pre-season 2. but idk iris is the princess of the entire planet, so. plus she and auriana have the natural talent for magic.

• how much of magic is amplified by pure talent for it, like in auriana's case, and how much of it can be grown by rigorous practise, like in talia's case? i think magic shouldn't be so scientific but we gotta draw the line somewhere so we can determine which aspects of magic should be left to whimsy.

rewatched crowning glory and dear god i forgot how amatonormative lolirock is. i get that nathaniel is iris' oldest and best friend, and with the added romantic feelings it's gonna be extra hard bidding him goodbye specifically, but throughout the show she really seems to overemphasize his importance. we remembered princess brenda right?? she reactivated her shanila only AFTER nate specifically got frozen in crystal. like did amaru, auriana, and talia not matter?? or brenda, a person in need??

and in crowning glory when she thinks about leaving earth, her home for 15 whole years, to go live on a strange planet she's only been on in times of emergency, the only thing that matters apparently is the romantic interest she's leaving behind??? is she not feeling homesick for Sunny Bay, or at least saddened to leave all the human things she's gonna miss? what about her other friends that have kept her company? she's gonna leave without saying goodbye to THEM? i wouldn't make such a big deal about it if they've made it clear it was because nate's familiarity and friendship is what's making it so hard to leave, but she's being held back by a CRUSH??

iris is selfless, empathetic and has a natural instinct to help others, i think it's strange she's acting like this. they should've shown her to care for ALL the aspects of her life on earth—the human traditions, her friends, neighbours, the pop star life—to capsize how hard it would be to leave her old, comfortable life behind, not have her restrained solely bc ~romance~. the romance can make it harder bc it's something personal she really wants (and she by all means deserves it! considering she spends most of her time giving back to others, it's only fair if she's entitled to something that makes her happy), but she can't care about JUST the romance. that's implying that romance is the most important thing ever and that's wrong and an unhealthy lesson to teach to young viewers.

there's also other additional conflicts to keep her from fully embracing ephedia: she's probably set out her whole life on earth, and now that she's leaving all her plans are shattered. who knows what ambitions she has to abandon to go be a princess? knowing our sweet iris, it probably has to do with making life better for all, like a social worker. then she'd have to decide which planet she'd want to care for, and come to a compromise of splitting her time between finishing up school and pursuing a career on earth and helping rebuild post-war ephedia.

there's just so much that could've been better.

Now I’m officially finished season 1 of Lolirock. Honestly, I feel like the last two episodes are what made me finally invested in the show. Before I liked it, but didn’t really feel like wanting to know what was going to happen next. Talia is the best girl of the 3. I like her personality, and she has the best backstory and conflict. Aurianna is my least favourite of the trio. I like funny and silly characters but they usually should have something interesting to them. She seems to just be comic relief and didn’t have a significant moment while Talia had her backstory, which was brought up in the two-part finale while Iris obviously has the main plot centered around her. I want to know more about her backstory and what interesting stuff happened to her on Volta. I hope this changes in season 2.  I’m curious to see where it goes in season 2. Lev is an interesting character and I am hoping for Iris to confront him in season 2 because of the betrayal. Thanks for sinking my ship guys.

Usually with fandoms I fall in love with the lead first, because I'm lucky enough to have a lot of fandoms with lovable and wonderful protagonists. So I'm covering the explanation all at once. ...eeeexcept in Mephisto's case - Mephisto isn't the lead, he's one of the dorky bumbling miniboss duo, but he's such a sweetheart? Like he was one of the antagonists but he was a giant dork from episode one that I knew I'd love him.

The character you never expected to love so much:

* Héctor (I just figured he'd be the comic relief sidekick at first and I was prepared to like and enjoy his character for that alone. Then they hit me with backstory and character depth and that got me with my own father feelings and just. I saw a tiny bit of myself and my own dad, so it's kinda personal-ish? And he has so many Dad Moments with Miguel in the movie and just. GAH.) * Mephisto again. Without going into spoiler territory, he shows a lot of character depth, signs he could be a great ally instead of enemy ("Were our circumstances different, I would be honored to serve you, Princess.") and love for his sister. The episode 'Forget You' especially. * Uhm.... I guess I wanna say LeFou? I don't LOVE him, but I've seen a lot of fan analysis and fanfics that explore his character more (and this was before the 2017 movie came out) and like. I hope his life post-Gaston is better.

I wanna follow my dreams and do what I love, and I've also made some selfish and poor decisions in my life, while also trying to live my life in the right way now. * Uhhh Aurianna? Oh, I guess except for Lev in Lolirock. He seemed interesting in his intro episode, but then he kinda vanished only to show up near the end of season two and too late to be interesting or for me to buy his ‘character arc.’ So it’s not that I dislike him, it’s just that I don’t really care.

Three OTPs:

* Imelda/Héctor (This isn't the only ship in this movie, but it is the one we see the most of and know the most about.) * Talia/Aurianna. I don't care if Aurianna is after a new guy every time or that Talia got a crush on a boy, they're totally gay for each other and I saw Talia as a lesbian prior to the guy episode. (And look at their introduction. They sound like a couple who've had this disagreement a million times before.) * Belle/Beast (A'doy.)

Praxina and Mephisto’s origins?

There has been much speculation on the twins’ origins so I thought I’d try and compile all of the ideas into one post, along with my findings/headcanons.

Both the twins and Iris have a three “tailed” cape or dress train. They are the only characters in the show thus far to have this similarity.

The middle “tail” on Mephisto and Praxina’s capes are shorter than the ones that flank it. Whereas Iris’ are all the same length. This could be an indication of rank/standing within the royal court.

Since Mephisto knows the spell to safely open/use the Ephedian spellbook some have theorized that the twins could be next in line to guard said book.

Praxina is able to wield Iris’ pendant. The only other time when we have seen someone use another person’s gem is when Talia uses Izira’s medallion. Talia and Izira are blood relatives so what does that say about the twins...

In the episode Lucky star the original French version says that their Grand-Pere (grandfather) is or was the court jester

Gramorr was once apart of the royal court/on good terms with the king and queen (so good he could get close enough to dethrone them). But we don’t know how he and the twins met. If they were all apart of the royal court, or even related to palace workers/servants, that would have provided them with opportunities to have met before Gramorr took over. Thus giving him chances to bring the twins over to his side. But we’ll find that out soon enough as the official tumblr has said “All these event, including how Gramorr and the twins met, have yet to be told. And don’t worry, they will. At some point. Not today. ;)”

In Home Part 1 Mephisto says he is going home as he moves towards the portal to the palace

“Mephisto and Praxina’s home is on Ephedia, that’s for sure. Now, we don’t know if they use to live in the castle with Gramorr, or another place. They’re very secretive about it.“

Someone asked the team if people are envious that only royals can transform. The team only said “Good question. We don’t know. Maybe ?” They didn’t deny the fact that only royals can transform. We’ve seen the twins both in and out of their usual “form” and in the episode No Thanks For the Memories we see Mephisto phase from his disguise straight to his normal clothes. This solidifies the idea that they are royals from a yet unmentioned kingdom in Ephedia.

Both Talia and Mephisto like Hurleybeast steak which is said to look “a lot like a tuna steak”. While the animal itself is “some kind of big and very noisy fish”. Usually fish are found in one environment. Could this mean that Praxina and Mephisto used to live near Xeris? Is there a kingdom there that we don’t know about?

And this brings us back to Mephisto's own personal issues. There's probably more to it than what we've seen in the show but this also goes to prove that Mephisto is obviously not content with always being considered "second best" to his sister, living in her "shadow", as he put it.

Who put that thought in his head (other than prax obv)? Maybe Gramorr??? Maybe a parent?? I'm leaning more towards the first one because Gramorr is... well, Gramorr, but who knows.

He also seems to think that Praxina would do just fine without him. That she doesn't need him.

Which we know is not true. She does need him. We see it clearly at the end of S2.

This is why I think that if Mephisto DOES turn out to be alive in S3 (which i 100% believe in), he is NOT, contrary to popular belief, immediately going to go look for his sister.

Not because he doesn't care. But because a part of him believes, deep down, that she's- better off without him. And I'd love to see this on the show some day. Not to mention that the small period of time in which he'd be by himself would be a great opportunity for character growth, to find out who he truly is outside of his sister. To leave that "shadow" behind for a while.

Regardless of wether or not he appears throughout the third season or just at the end (this is gonna depend on when the Team wants to reveal that he's alive. because i know he is), this would actually be a good sideplot for his character.

We'll have to wait and see

Mephisto & Praxina - A Relationship Analysis

Because part of me wishes that the twins' dynamic had been more explored in the show, while Mephisto was still "alive".

There are honestly so many scenes, especially in season 2, where you could feel the main underlying issues between them, but they were never actually adressed or explored.

Also, feel free to add your own thoughts, maybe stuff that I missed, or things you disagree with as well.

Let's start with this scene, from Cute As A Doll, which I'm surprised not more people are talking about:

So, Praxina gets hurt by Auriana's blast, and Mephisto immediately stops his chase for Iris to teleport next to his sister, to make sure she's alright.

Aaaaanddd- she yells at him for caring/worrying, telling him to just go after Iris.

LOOK AT HIS FACE BRO. Homeboy was truly worried, but then immediately gets back in the game.

It's easy to just look at the dismissive and "careless" way in which Praxina treats Mephisto most of the time, and rule her off as "heartless". However, this sentiment seems to also be present when HE tries to "connect" or worries about her.

We see this again in Forget You:

She sees attachments and emotions as a sign of weakness and vulnerability, and clearly doesn't allow herself to feel it and lashes out whenever her brother does.

This refusal to accept love and affection is usually born out of an inherent lack of trust in people. It comes from a place of fear. She seems to prefer to remain impartial and formal as much as possible, regardless of how much her brother (or anyone else, for the matter) wishes to get close to her,

When it comes to other people, i believe she simply doesn't trust that the gestures of affection are real/genuine.

Good!Praxina, in Forget You I believe, was less of a "possibly redeemed" Praxina and more of a "blank page" Praxina, as in, what she would've been like had none of the Gramorr or the other bad stuff happened.

Still, let's not forget that Good!Praxina still clearly had some concerning instincts, so some of her less pleasant characteristics like her destructive behavior, lack of empathy, difficulty accepting affection and praise, and connecting with people, were probably already there since the beggining.

Iris said it herself:

Remember, Good!Praxina still didn't like the idea of helping people when the girls first tried to teach her how to be a good person; Only AFTER being exposed to good influences did she actually begin to redirect her energy torwards "good" goals, and I think this proves that, in a different, more positive enviromnent, she would've definetly turned out differently.

But, alas- she didn't, so here I am, writing this big ass psychological assessment. Which is mostly her fault.

Also Mephisto clearly has some issues of his own when it comes to how his sister treats him (which, let's be honest, while I wouldn't call it abusive, she definetly isn't an easy person to care about)

Also the fact that she seems to think he's incapable of doing anything right definetly bothers him more than he lets on.

It's easy to laugh these moments off but there's definetly something much deeper going on.

And in many other times.

Oh- and the fact that she always blames him for everything. Which is another one of Praxina's biggest flaws: an inability to admit fault or take any sort of accountibility. Aaand shifting the blame.

Which he knows, and this is clearly something that he takes and takes, until he snaps.

This moment in If You Can't Beat Them was also really telling on how he actually feels about how his sister never actually shows any appreciation for his contributions, and seems to think he's weaker and less capable of reason as she is.

I genuinely do not know what goes through Praxina's brain to make her do this. I don't know wether she actually genuinely believes he's stupid and fucks everything up or not.

And Gramorr, although he doesn't outright show much preference for Praxina in spite of Mephisto, seems to share the sentiment, given that he appears to be slightly less patient/harsher towards him than his sister.

What I can say is that Praxina definetly believes that he is the weakest link between them (which might seem like it's true at first glance, but I wouldn't be so sure as to state it), which, given the previous statement, might also be a result of Gramorr himself thinking/saying it, since they've probably been training under his wing for quite a long time, which would make her (and Mephisto) easily influenced by his opinion, as an authority figure.

And he might pretend it doesn't effect him, but we all know that deep down it does, and that he's kinda insecure despite all his bravado.

I think Mephisto's always been more sensitive and more "emotionally-inclined" than his sister, even before Gramorr. I believe that both twins have the potential to be good, but Mephisto is definetly more "hardwired" for it than Praxina.

And we already know what she thinks about that: emotion=weakness.

And part of her wants to keep reminding him she's better too. The girl's got a big ego to stroke.

Mephisto also seems to have more morals than his sister.

We can see that throughout the show he's helped the princesses sometimes: Iris, with whom he teamed up with to save his sister in If You Can't Beat Them, in which he even told her he'd be honored to serve her as queen of Ephidea, had circunstances been different, which I truly believe he meant;

He clearly wasn't totally fine with enslaving the entire planet.

Praxina, on the other hand, seemed pretty okay with it.

Ecstatic even.

She's relishing in what's happening, that's what she wants. To bend other to her will, to be feared rather than loved, to have power over others.

Maybe not what she needs, but what she WANTS.

I feel like he looked at her in hopes she'd be as concerned as he was, that they were on the same page about the situation, only to find her- well, laughing. I joked about this being his "oh shit, these people are actually evil" moment, but I think part of him was only surprised with Praxina. Maybe he hadn't realized just how far this "lifestyle" had actually shaped his sister.

We know for sure that Mephisto has higher levels of empathy than Praxina. And common sense. This is why I always disagree when people say that Praxina is smarter than Mephisto. She might be more "logical" and "rational", but neither of those things equate to cleverness. Mephisto seems to be more astute and more intuitive.

Him starting to realize Gramorr was probably not gonna give them shit is a great example of this.

Which Praxina did NOT even think about. She was on a high, thinking about all the power they were gonna have now that Gramorr was free and back in action. Miss girl, you are delusional.

Honestly Praxina's fatal flaws deserve their own separate post.

Because let's be clear: I'm trying to debunk all of the twin's relationship issues, and everytime, it's clear who's actually responsible for everything going badly in the emotional realm.

I love her but she IS the problem. Not saying Mephisto is a poor innocent baby who never did anything wrong his whole life (I'm looking at you, lolirock fandom). He definetly has a lot of flaws and bad traits himself, but he's not the one to blame for anything regarding his and his sister's relationship.

To conclude,

THIS is normal sibling behaviour.

This is not me saying they have a bad relationship, but I am saying that they don't have a fantastic one either.

Also, I blame dark magic too. The Team has confirmed it makes them more irritable, so there's that too.

They really care about each other, and I don't doubt that BOTH of them would do anything to keep the other safe. But they got lots of unspoken stuff to talk about.

In season 1 episode 6 (“xeris”) Talia says she “volunteered to come find” Iris. If that’s the case then who organized this recovery/training mission? It seems like Talia didn’t know about the resistance until the season 1 finale. Did Iris’ parents send out a request for people to go look after their earth - bound daughter once she got old enough? What gives?

Black crystal corruption?

If black magic harms both the caster and the victim as mentioned in one of the official tumblr 's posts (x), then how corrupted/hurt/damaged is Praxina? While the twins cast spells together and separately Praxina is usually the one to conjure up the huge monsters and seal people in black crystal. Since these are larger and presumably more difficult spells, as opposed to just attacking with crystal shards, making shields etc., does the black magic have a stronger hold on her than it does on Mephisto? Is my small angry child going to be ok?!?!?!
