A/N: Sorry for being a bit inactive at the moment. I struggle sometimes with my energy and still haven't found a good way to balance everything going on in my life at the moment. Hope you enjoy :)

14. Back to normal The next days they forgot all about Rachel snooping around in his office. Loki went back to the gentlemen he pretended to be. He knew the type of guy she liked, and he sure was putting on a good show, he might actually believe he could be like that for real. Still, he had other plans to worry about.

Loki disappeared a lot, and Rachel didn’t know quite where he went every time. Still, she knew better by now to question it. A god was actually into her and the only thing she did was see red flags and mistrust him. She really tried to ignore the red flags that she had created for herself. She figured since he wasn’t portrayed as a ‘nice guy’ in the Norse Mythology and he is the God of Mischief, she subconsciously would think the worst of him.

Rachel and Kate went shopping again. She was getting used to having this kind of luxury in her life, and if felt like ages ago that she was homeless and barely surviving on the streets. This time she actually got something for Kate too, figuring Loki really wouldn’t mind. A green necklace that made her green eyes pop. It suited her perfectly. When they got back, Rachel put on a movie in the living room and made herself some popcorn. Little did she know, that the guy she was in love with, was just in a room below her.

Loki was in his office in the basement. It was just a room, and it would be really easy to spot an access. Had he not put a spell on it that made people not want to look at it, make them forget the door was even there, like it was a monster they couldn’t look into the eye. Since Rachel was the only one that was actually forming a threat to his scheme, it did the trick.

He always came here to work on his actual plan, but for that plan to start working, he needed to win this stupid campaign. And at the moment it wasn’t going as well as he hoped. He hoped to be ahead with a landslide, but he was actually second in the poles. The difference was very close, still it wasn’t good enough for Loki. He wanted to secure his victory, he needed to win this. I’m not going back in chains he thought to himself. He couldn’t, for him it was life or death.

The problem he faced most is that his opponent was playing the ‘he is not human, he is not from earth, he is not like us’- card. A trick that had worked a long time with different human races, so Loki wasn’t surprised that it worked for Gods who aren’t from this planet. Little do they know how much I actually influenced their history, he thought through gritted teeth.

He needed a plan, something grand, something that would secure his win. He needed to be seen like he was like them, Midgardians. That he had their best interest in mind, which actually wasn’t a complete lie. He thought long and hard about it, and he knew what the grand gesture had to be. He needed to marry, he couldn’t get any closer to being a ‘normal guy’ than being married to an American wife.

He didn’t want to marry Rachel this soon, but he thought it didn’t matter. They would end up marrying sooner than later. Still, if he asked her he wasn’t convinced that she would say yes. So, he had to make sure she would say yes. He wanted to do it the honest way, that would make their honeymoon time a lot easier. But if not, he had other means.

By the time he got back up he saw that Rachel had fallen asleep while watching her movie. He watched her for a moment, he hated how it warmed his hard to see her so peaceful. He was tired from a long day’s work and did something he rarely did. With everyone gone, he let down his guard for once. Taking a deep breath, replaying the events in his head, and opening his eyes to see her still laying peaceful on the couch. He walked towards her and scooper her up in his arms, bringing her to their bed. She woke halfway through the journey to the bedroom, smiling sleepily at him and putting her heard against his chest.

He laid her down on the bed. He couldn’t help it, he kissed her. Softly, on her lips. She started to move her lips with his. When he wanted to stop, to let her sleep, she didn’t pull away. She actually grabbed his neck and started to kiss him quicker. He wasn’t strong enough to pull away at this time. He needed this. He needed her. Still, he needed to be sure that she was on the same page as him.

‘Rachel, if you don’t stop now, I won’t be able to’ he whispered in her ear, resisting the urge to bite her earlobe and drag his tongue against the sensitive part of her neck. Hoping to feel her shiver underneath him.

‘Make me yours’ Rachel whispered back, hoping it might take away her doubts about the relationship. Not sure how to define that relationship.

13. Getting suspicious Norway was a blast. The two of them didn’t exactly talk about what they were to each other. They were just enjoying each other’s company. At least, that was what Rachel thought. Loki meant what he said. She was his, there was no way she would leave his side.

When the two of them got back, things slowly got back to normal. At least, for the staff that was. Whenever the two of them were alone, Loki took his chance to steal a kiss or to let her cuddle close against his chest. He started to hate the fact that he had to get up early in the morning, leaving her sleeping peacefully behind. And hated more that she was already asleep by the time he would come back in the evening. But he couldn’t blame he. Mortals are fragile.

He knew that once she married him that would be over. Once she marries him, he could form the connection. One that would prevent her form ever leaving him, one that would make here age in the same pace as him, one that would make her less fragile. It wasn’t a wedding tradition, it was a dark spell he learned a while back. Still, she didn’t have to know that. But that is for later he thought to himself. First things first, he had to focus on his plan.

Rachel was just watching the news by herself. Loki was somewhere for his campaign, he needed to go alone. She missed him. But her pining was interrupted when she heard the news caster tell that Tony Stark was found dead. Apparently, the billionaire had an overdose, which didn’t surprise the people that were close to him.

Still, it surprised Rachel. It was too much of a coincides. All those people dying all of the sudden. Her mind immediately went back to the papers she saw. The papers of all the possible ways that Captain America could die. The papers that had Tony Stark’s name on them. Does Loki have something to do with this? She quickly tried to keep the thought at bay. How could she for one second even think that?

After twisting and turning on the couch for half an hour, suspicion got the better of her. She decided to go upstairs and look for the papers with Tony’s name. Maybe she could rule out that Loki had anything to do with it. Little did she know, that the minute she entered his office, an alarm went off on his phone. The cameras were triggered and he could see her looking around. Luckily for him, he had moved to papers to his office in the basement, the one she didn’t know about. Unlucky for him, she was starting to get suspicious. And that would screw up his whole plan. He did what he had to do and teleported right to the door of his office and he silently opened the door.

Rachel was busy looking in various drawers, and looking through endless paper documents. But she couldn’t find a thing. Not about Captain America, not about Tony, nothing. As if Loki hadn’t had those papers in his possession to begin with. Why would he hide them? she wondered.

‘Something I can help you with?’ he spoke, making Rachel jump up.

‘Loki’ was all she said. She had no idea what she was going to say. She couldn’t possibly tell him that thought of him killing those people popped into her head. She liked him, they finally kissed. The last week had been wonderful. Accusing a guy of murder wasn’t going to help her, still. They guys in the suits, the suspicious call, the papers, thing weren’t adding up. Her mind was racing, jumping from one conclusion to the other, while trying to come up with a lie.

Little did she know that Loki was able to follow her whole mind in the process.

‘I think I left my ring, the last time I was here’ she stammered a little. Even if Loki wasn’t the God of Lies, he could tell she was lying. So obvious he thought.

‘What is it about me?’ he asked.

‘What do you mean?’

‘For some reason, people always assume the worst of me. They always start lying to me. I thought you would be different’ he sounded angry. He actually was a little angry, and he hoped that by playing the victim she would forgive him out of guilt. He could get back to his plans and back to arranging their lives for the future.

‘I- I don’t know what you mean?’ she stammered.

‘STOP LYING TO ME!’ he snapped. He could tell she was taken aback by his reaction. And he mentally cursed himself for letting his emotions get the better of him. ‘I didn’t mean to snap’ he genuinely said. ‘Just tell me honestly why you are in my office’

‘I don’t mean to offend you’ she whispered. ‘But I saw on the news that Tony Stark died, and I couldn’t help but thin of those papers. And I was just wondering if the way he died was on it’ she could barely made audible.

‘Because I have something to do with it? What would I gain from his death?’ Loki countered.

‘I don’t know, but keeping a list of ways to kill people isn’t a normal thing’ she answered. ‘I’m sorry’ she added.

Loki sighed heavily and let himself slump back into a chair. Rachel was leaning against his desk, he could tell that the guilt was eating at her, but that there was a part of her mind that thought she was right.

‘I already tried to explain to you that it is a way to try and keep them safe. Yes, an overdose is on that list. Top of it, actually. Because, it was a way that he could die and we can’t influence that’ he explained.

Suddenly, it dawned on Rachel that he had in fact explain this, she just didn’t really get why he was doing this. Before she could ask, Loki had read the question in her mind.

‘I’m involved in the Avenger Initiative, I feel responsible. Besides, I would very much like to guarantee my own safety’ he said. And that is going to be the thing that does it.

He could already she her tear up a little. ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. I didn’t really think..’ she started to stammer.

He stretched out his hands and she took it. He pulled he into her lap and kissed her temple. ‘It’s all right’ he said while burying his face in the crook of her neck. Kissing her neck and making her squirm a little in his grip. He loved how ticklish she was. ‘Just, I really wish you would just come to me and ask me about it, than snooping in my office’

‘I will, I’m sorry. It’s all a little new, I didn’t know you were actually involved or anything and my nerves got the better of me. Are you still mad?’ she asked.

‘As if I could ever stay mad at you?’ this time he kissed her. He really hoped that next time she would come straight towards him, lying to her was much easier that way.
