Update
Just a little update on my biggest project as of yet- one trench is about halfway done... three and a half more to go <3
This has taken me months of digging, and my friends are really awesome, helping me with it <3 I would not have nearly so much progress without them!
Note to self- next time I make a perimeter, don't choose an ocean biome......

i think we spend a lot of time together in silence. before, that would bother me to no end.
what are you thinking of me? is my company not enough? is my longing too much? do you hate me? do you not know what to say? do you think i'm weird? maybe you're just tired. maybe you're tired of me. are you tired? please don't be. please don't stop. i'm sorry.
and then, it would get too much. i wouldn't know how to keep it in anymore. but, of course, i'm useless at this whole communicating thing, so i'd never say a word.
what if i'm too clingy? what if everything is fine and i make you feel bad because i thought something was wrong? what if you ended up thinking i hated you? what if you hate me? what if i'm too much? what if?
but that doesn't help anyone. that doesn't help you. if i don't say anything, what could i do? what other confirmations am i capable of? how could i possibly let you know just how much i need you? and how can i leave us both unscathed in the crossfire?
so many what ifs swirled in a gaping black hole in the empty space behind my eyes. darkness i cannot hope to soothe. cannot understand how. what could i do?
i do the next hardest thing. i find your hand.
what else am i supposed to do? i'm afraid of speaking to you, i'm afraid of bothering you, and i'm afraid that you might know about this and believe that it's your fault. simply put, lover, i'm afraid. (but not you. never you.)
hand holding is something that lovers do. if i held your hand now, it would be...normal. right? that's what lovers do. it would mean nothing to you, but the way you respond would mean everything to me.
it's not easy to ask you if you still love me. so i find your hand.
and the crazy thing is, you squeeze it back.
the silence is still there when i open my eyes, but so is your hand. so are you. and we never needed more than this to get by.
when the what ifs come back, like they inevitably do, like it inevitably will, i will hesitantly look for your hand, and you will simply take it, like it is the easiest thing in the world. and this happens again, and again, and again.
logically. i know better. you love me, of course. and it's quite stupid of me to assume that you don't. it's quite stupid to be fazed by something as simple as a few moments of quiet. it's quite stupid to be terrified of everything. it's quite stupid.
you're still holding onto me.
we spend a lot of time together in silence. before, that would bother me to no end. your hand mindlessly finds mine (like it has, the past seven times, like it will, for as long as you'll let me.)
i think, please don't stop; and the hand that still hasn't let go of mine means, i won't.

Log 006: Kogane K. A.
Feeling better than yesterday. I think all I needed was some rest. Someone left some tea outside my door...that was nice. I'm going to take full advantage of the alone time, though. It's peaceful.

RESEARCH LOG 006
RESEARCHER M. Florez
Opening file...
This is most certainly one of the most complex scenarios I have ever encountered. I was given a chance to conduct an interview today with an Affini "vet" and was informed more on the process of domestication. It appears that terrans are rather unique in their domestication process due to the high chance of volatility and chance of self endangerment. Those who are determined to be of risk to others or themselves are domesticated forcefully through a combination of kindness and lo- emotional manipulation and "xenodrugs" (the colloquial name for the naturally produced toxins of the Affini) that subdues them until they are adopted. However, while this is the case for most terrans, there are those who are independent and do not wish to be made pets. It seems though that this does not last, and most who originally wish to be independent slowly succumb to the wish to be a floret. Would it really be so bad to be a good flor-
Something I have learned that is the case with all florets is that once they are domesticated, they are installed with some kind of chip at the base of the back of their neck (maybe some form of nanotech?) called a "Haustoric Implant." This is the primary tool of the Affini, and one they seem rather proud of. It is able to infect the nervous system and allows for the use of "xenodrug" at all times, controlled by the floret's Affini. That would explain the sudden bouts of confusion and bliss I have seen florets experience even without being touched.
Speaking of these toxins, I recall that perhaps took my experiments too far today. I had agreed to be injected with this "xenodrug" called a "Class-A" and was... beside myself. The sensation of it reverberates within my mind still, though I cannot remember most of it. It was the fault of Marianna due to their constant asking and begging for me to "just give it a try, I promise you'll feel all warm and cute and good just like me." It was a feeling I cannot describe, but it was... potent to say the least. I will not allow this to be made a habit, lest all my research be seen as the ramblings of some floret person too high to care. It did feel really really good though to be touched in such a way by Maria and Mistr-
I cannot stay here any longer. I can feel myself giving in more and more into the thoughts. I must leave, or at least get away from Mis- Ms. Ve- Verdia- the plant. I have asked for a request for a new habitation unit temporarily under the pretenses of needing to observe other relationships and work on my study.
What will I tell Maria? They've been so very helpful and loving, and it truly has helped me see that perhaps there is joy in the life of a floret. Maybe I could ask her some more questions about how it fee-
...
I should sleep after the wellness check.
Physical health: Above average
Mental health: Below average, lowered levels of stress detected
Emotional health: Slightly below average, increase in physical affection recommended
Addendum: Damn, why did my old logs load back up? Did that happen while I was still coming down from the toxins? I really am having more trouble remembering things now. If I don't get out of here soon I might end up doing something stupid.

2024 Reading Log, pt 2
006. Gardening Can Be Murder by Marta McDowell. I honestly thought that this book was going to be about something else. With the subtitle “how poisonous plants, sinister shovels and grim gardens have inspired mystery writers”, I thought it was going to be about, you know, that. True crime themed to gardens, discussions of poisonous plants, that sort of thing. The book is actually about the mystery books that have gardening as a theme. And while the author’s dedication to not spoiling anything (seriously, anything, even 150 year old stories like The Moonstone or “Rappacini’s Daughter”) is admirable in its own way, this leaves the book feeling like endless buildup without any payoff. Big fans of murder mysteries might enjoy this—especially the last chapter, which interviews writers about their gardens—but I found it more boring than anything else, and finished it only because it was very short.
007. Antimony, Gold and Jupiter’s Wolf by Peter Wothers. This book is about how the elements got their names, and most of it deals with the early modern period, as alchemy transitioned to chemistry and then into the 19th century, when chemistry was a real science, but things like atomic theory were not yet understood. The book goes into fascinating detail, and has a lot of quotes from primary sources, as scientists then were just like scientists now, that is, opinionated and bickering with each other over their preferred explanations. And names! Many of the splits between elements and their symbols (like Na for sodium) are due to compromise attempts to appease two different factions with their preferred names. A book covering arcane minutia of history always has the risk of feeling like a slog, but this is a fast and fun read.
008. Doctor Dhrolin’s Dictionary of Dinosaurs by Nathan T Barling and Michael O’Sullivan, illustrations by Mark P Witton. This book is an odd concept, but one that I was immediately on board with—a D&D book written by paleontologists with the intention of bringing accurate and interesting stats for prehistoric reptiles to the game. The fact that it’s mostly illustrated by Mark Witton definitely clinched my backing that Kickstarter. And this book is a lot of fun. So much so, that I read it all in a single sitting. I don’t know how accurate the stats are (like, a Hatzegopteryx has a higher CR than titanosaurs or T. rexes), but they seem like they’d be fun in play, and the writing does a good job of combining fantasy fun with actual education. Even for someone not running a 5e game, the stuff on how to run animals as not killing machines, and the mutation tables, could be useful. There are multiple types of playable dinosaurs, all of which seem like they’d work well at the table and avoid typical stereotypes, and a lot of in-jokes and pop culture references (like the cursed staff of unspared expense, which looks like Hammond’s cane in the Jurassic Park movie).
009. Romaine Wasn’t Built in a Day by Judith Tschann. I’m a sucker for books about etymology. And this one, on food etymology, is a pretty breezy read. I had fun with it, and it even busted some misconceptions that I had, etymologically speaking. Like, there’s no evidence that “bloody” as an explicative originated from “God’s blood”? Wild. Etymology books tend to be written in a sort of stream-of-consciousness style, where talking about one word may lead down a garden path to the next one. The book also has a couple of little matching quizzes, which is something I haven’t seen in a book since like the 90s.
010. The Lives of Octopuses and their Relatives by Danna Staaf. I was previously a little disappointed in The Lives of Beetles, another book in this series, but I knew I liked Staaf, who wrote the excellent book Squid Empire about cephalopod evolution and paleontology. I’m pleased to report that this book is also excellent. Staaf takes the “lives” part seriously, and the book is arranged by ecology, looking at different marine habitats, the challenges that they pose to living things, and the cephalopods that live there. Cuttlefish get slightly short shrift in this book compared to squids and octopuses, but that’s about the biggest complaint I had. I like how the species profiles cover more obscure taxa, and information about the best studied (like Pacific giant octopus and Humboldt squid) is kept to the chapters.

173 Influential SCPs
I went to SCPper, found the most upvoted articles by users who've made at least one SCP, and sorted by time. These aren't necessarily the 173 best articles on the site, but I think they're likely to be the most influential. Longtime fans have probably read most or all of these but maybe this could be a starting point for newcomers.
I think sorting by time is important because the Foundation's been around almost 17 years. Writers come and go, trends come and go, new writers are influenced by what came before, and later articles are often longer and more complex than earlier ones. Just sorting by most upvoted bounces you around time; on the main wiki you read mostly series 1 articles then get dunked into SCP-5000. I hope this is a more natural progression, and that by the end people have more context for what's going on.
Using upvotes from writers only is important because the more writers like an article, the more likely later SCPs are to be influenced by it, so those articles are more likely to be important for understanding the wiki as a whole.
I might do an alternate version of this list that replaces the extremely long articles with shorter SCPs.
If you have trouble understanding one of the articles (some of the later ones get LONG), look it up on r/SCPDeclassified. If you would prefer audio narration/explanations, The Exploring Series and TheVolgun are both excellent. And of course, make sure to look in the sidebar on the wiki for guides, lists and explanations.

LOG 000: Subject appears to take a humanoid form, aside from a pair of ram's horns on it's head and its differing size. From what we've seen on camera, it changes often- exhibiting some kind of joy out of being smaller, tending to stay around an inch, give or take.
LOG 001: Subject appears to be fully sentient (though this is still up for debate), and furthermore, appears to have full knowledge of the facility. On multiple occasions it has faced the camera to wave, or stare absentmindedly.
LOG 002: First human trial. Subject was asked politely to maintain a human size throughout the interaction- despite it's hesitation, it obliged. Subject seems to take the form of a younger trans woman, measuring roughly 5'7 in height, and wore a simple outfit. The researcher sent in was confirmed to be unharmed, but they did mention a mild headache when leaving the room. Medical scans showed nothing wrong with the patient, and they were sent on their way.
LOG 003: Subject asked to be reffered to as "Eve"- it also (somewhat shyly) asked for another visit- it seems to enjoy the company of others. The previous researcher hastilly agreed, and was allowed to interact with it while it was small. Eve had an increased heartrate for the duration of the experiment. She seems... strangely content here. Besides her (limited) size shifting abilities, it's highly doubted that she's anything dangerous.
LOG 004: Our prime researcher entered without permission, and was restrained. Their eyes now display a strange pink tint to them, but nothing was found in another brain scan- however, they were strangely adamant to get out of the examinations as soon as possible.
LOG 005: Eve is shown to have multiple aphrodisiac qualities, ones that she can't seem to control. In her own words, they simply "make them as obsessed as I am". The safe label we had used earlier is being recinded and the lead researcher is in confinement for the time being.
LOG 006: Chaos has broken out, with the researcher clawing to get to Eve. Their hands were bloodied and worn as they broke into her containment- and simply held her in their now red-stained hands. Many audio files have been corrupted from the interaction, but some has been salvaged- and the results are... strange, to say the least. The researcher seems to be murmuring various degrading words, insulting and humiliating- and supposably even reffered to themselves as "her deity". The researcher was caught and dragged away- and a staff member stepped in to comfort Eve. Their words were sweet, calming, and informed her that she was worth more than that- that she was a person that deserved respect.
The video footage cut out from that point onward, but when it resumes, the staff member simply dissapeared.
Eve is still under further testing- and has apologized multiple times for the commotion. She has promised not to make any form of escape, stating that "she likes it here".
The effects of the aphrodisiac faded, though the researcher often requests sessions with Eve. These sessions are allowed, but heavily monitored- and any symptoms of this chemical at work are being monitered.
A discarded finger of the staff member was found on the premesis (the left index finger, to be exact). However, it was not located anywhere near Eve's containment.
Researchers do not need heavy equipment when entering- and it is heavily advised you treat her as sub-human. Many researchers actually use her as a source of entertainment- and find her aphrodisiacs relaxing, if a bit addicting.

Special questions
005-Felix
Q.Do you have any free time?
Felix: Usually, most of the time I hardly have time to rest. Because I have to work in a company as a CEO, I don't just sit and give orders. And if my subordinates can't do it, then I have to do it myself.
006-Ted
Q.Can you adapt here yet?
Ted: Adapt? I don't see any need to adapt anything. This place is exactly like my home. I mean it's the same. so I don't have to adapt anything. Seriously, it's even more comfortable here.

Wanshi's Report Log
Warning: yandere themes
A/N: another drabble, trying to work out how I want these fuckwads to be written
I got assigned to a scout mission in City 006 to investigate an old research lab. Everything went according to the plan Captain planned out, though he put some emphasis on finishing this quickly... Guess Captain's busy. Hopefully that means I can catch up on my sleep.
Anyway, Me and Camu went on either side of parameters of the lab while Captain and Kamui started investigating inside. Nothing too unusual, other than catching a glimpse of someone scurrying out into the city...they looked pretty similar to that ascendant Roland, the one with the newer frame.
I told Capt about it and he told us to continue investigating the outer areas and keep an eye out for anything else before meeting up in the center of the lab.
We continued investigating and didn't find anything of note, other than some dusty puppets and a makeshift stage in an abandoned apartment. One of the puppets looked like Roland, and the others looked like Alpha, Luna, Lamia and... Uh, I forgot the last one.
I told Captain about the puppets when we met up, though he was acting a little weird. He was smiling to himself and had his hand on his in-ear piece...he's been doing that a lot lately, Kamui even made a joke that Captain must have a partner, but then Capt scolded him about staying focused. Even though it was a joke, he seemed unusually upset about it...
Sorry, this doesn't belong in a mission report. Anyway, we searched through the rest of the lab with only an occasional corrupted impeding our path. We successfully found all of the mission targets and are currently en-route to Babylonia.
-
A soft click of my terminal announces the end of my report log. All things considered, this was relatively easy, especially for something that called the entire Strike Hawk squad. A displeased sigh left my lips as I stared idly at the ceiling of the transport craft. I could've been sleeping in the Gray Raven lounge instead of doing this.
I steal a glance at my teammates. Kamui is playing a game he somehow got on his terminal, Camu is sitting farthest from us seemingly thinking about something, and Captain... He's doing it again. Chrome's sitting across from me and staring at something in his private terminal while listening to something on his in-ear piece, whatever he's watching...it's certainly making him happy in a way I've never seen before.
I look at him for a moment longer in apprehension. In the recent past, I wouldn't hesitate to ask him what's going on... but now, there's something drifting between us. Between all of us that no one seems willing to talk about.
I have my suspicions of course. Like how Kamui and Camu seem excessively clingy to the Commandant, excessively so, and how Chrome always seems to be watching the Commandant like a hawk whenever they're in his vision.
I'm in no place to judge though. I can't say with confidence my weekly visits to their room are entirely pure in nature anymore, I'm also finding it harder to be without them. I look down at my hands for a moment and close my eyes, it's not my fault their room is so much more comfortable than anywhere else and how their scent is so relaxing.
I sigh again and cast a glance over my three teammates again, carefully observing their facial expressions and body language. If it wasn't for them keeping me grounded, I don't know where I'd be. Probably killed by some self-righteous Purifying Force member by now. That's why I can't stand that this is happening. Even if the Commandant finally gives themselves to me tomorrow, if I can't live with Strike Hawk by my side, then what's the point? I'd be dead if it wasn't for them, no way am I letting something come between us.
Maybe I'm too greedy, but I can't help it. I want what's mine to stay mine. I can't let go of either of them.
I inhale deeply as a multitude of ideas and potential outcomes race through my M.I.N.D.. "How troublesome." I mutter to myself close my eyes and ready myself for a nap. I'll need the energy for what I have to do later.
