My offering for the @startrekpotluck! I thought I'd showcase one of my favorite midwestern classics, the Pretzel Salad. + Recipe under the cut <3

PRETZEL SALAD

Supplies

9 X 13 Baking Pan/ Casserole Dish

Hand Mixer (Optional)

Crust Ingredients

6 Tbs Unsalted Butter

2 Cups Finely Crushed Salted Pretzels

3 Tbs Sugar

A Pinch of Salt

Filling Ingredients

8 Oz Cream Cheese

1 Cup Sugar

2 Cups Heavy Cream

1 Tsp Vanilla Extract

Strawberry Topping Ingredients

2 (3 Oz) Boxes of Strawberry Jello

2 Cups Boiling Water

4 Cups Sliced Strawberries

Instructions

Set out Cream Cheese to soften

Preheat oven to 400 F

Melt butter in medium bowl

Add crust ingredients to melted butter, stir until evenly moistened

Spread mixture on the bottom of your pan, press into even layer

Bake until fragrant (8 - 10 Minutes) then place aside to cool completely

Whip cream cheese and sugar in large bowl until smooth (Hand mixer on high if using one)

Beat in Heavy Cream and Vanilla Extract

Spread Filling over crust all the way to the sides (This is to make sure the crust doesn't get soggy with the topping)

Refrigerate until chilled (1 Hour)

Mix both boxes of Jello in large bowl with boiling water and whisk until dissolved

Refrigerate 30m (Jello should not be set, it should be about the consistency of a runny egg white)

Add strawberries to Jello and stir

Spread Jello over filling

Refrigerate uncovered until firmly set ( 4 Hours)

Serve chilled! :)

(PS. If you were curious I made up Dyrk - Boshak Kap. It's literal translation is cream filled bread. I couldn't find a lot of Vulcan desserts so I just kind of made one haha. I imagine it having some kind of fruit element and the bread is flakey like a pastry)

i've pretty much exclusively been doing rewriting of my old rvb fics, so finally working on something original (even if i had the idea back when i was first into it 2 years ago) is VERY refreshing so i'm sharing these first paragraphs

(it's slight canon divergence because i hear ice planet and i think "the thing" and also imagine if these assholes were stuck on sidewinder together in the same building for at least a month. hilarity.)

Ooooooh, it's so good when characters with a lot of information can speak to us directly. This is interesting because Mara previously said that the Witness is using the Scorn like "living archives" and now we know that its using them to find out about our Exodus program colony sites and contingencies.

So the Witness is specifically looking for a place that survived the Collapse, aka Neptune. For what purpose? What is there for the Witness? Just making sure it gets us all in the Second Collapse so no one escapes this time? Or something else?

Wonder if strand plays into this somehow, since we find it on Neptune. Or perhaps if the Witness somehow knows about Neomuna having technology to destroy the Pyramids. Or something else.

I was kinda afraid that for Lightfall we'll be bringing the war to Neomuna when they don't really want to participate, but with this, we know that they don't really have a choice. The Witness is coming for them specifically. Very concerning.

I didn’t draw this specifically in response to this post, but it kinda puts into perspective a lot of what I feel.

A lot of the time, I find it extremely difficult to say “I love you” to someone, even close friends and family. I feel as if I’m being disingenuous, that my feelings for them are not nearly as profound or deep as what “Love” is. But at the same time, “Love” does not nearly encompass everything I feel for that person.

And I think this partially comes from the way I’ve been molded to perceive affection and feelings like this. I personally have no idea what is considered romantic or platonic, and have a difficult time drawing a line between the two (if there even is one).

But I know for fact that care about a lot of people, very genuinely. That care just doesn’t translate to be as deep as “Love”. But again, “Love” is still too cheap.

Can we stop acting like two people deeply loving each other has to mean they have something romantic or sexual going on? Can we stop talking as if platonic love just can't be that deep? Because that's not true. Platonic love can be just as deep, and sometimes even deeper, than romantic love. What I'm saying is, we need to stop putting romance on this pedestal and act like every other form of love is less important.
