The manager of a university book store in Halifax is expressing concerns about Canada’s plan to counter-tariff more American goods on April 2nd — saying it could create a ‘disastrous’ situation for book retailers across the country. Paul MacKay, who’s worked at the King’s Co-Op Bookstore for more than a decade, said a 25 per cent tariff on books imported from the United States could put small bookshops in a difficult position. He says the solution isn’t as simple as “buying Canadian” as the Canadian book industry is reliant on production south of the border.

Oh my goodness you guys! My friend sold a couple of pairs of earrings to her students, and I'm under consideration for the local Farmers Market. 🤞
Stay tuned for some more exciting developments, and send us luck!

Sure, I’ve had my fair share of odd and cute grocery stories at local stores. However, the removal of my physical being from the shopping aspect of this errand absolutely did not minimize the number of odd happenings - ones that I never subscribe to but inevitably become funnier stories later on.

Books are like yarn in that if you buy them from a small local shop then you're actually performing a civic duty and you can buy as much as you want without feeling guilty. So actually my towering TBR pile and stash of untouched yarn is kind of heroic if you think about it,

i have to wonder how effective the rules for minimum wage workers even are because personally if i go into a store and they have sales staff robotically approaching me asking if i need help i go "uhh no im just looking" and then leave because i feel awkward. meanwhile if i go into a store and the cashier is sitting down on their phone im like "hey dude 👋" and browse comfortably. because it feels like im shopping at an actual business run by real people and not a dystopian hell hole.

sctir is such a good story if you're obsessed with worldbuilding Implications because yoojin is also Constantly thinking about that stuff. He's just a (previously) regular guy who has to live in this weird urban portal fantasy world so he cares about stuff like tax brackets and zoning laws and fair contract-writing and alternative uses of everyone's crazy supernatural powers. I can't count the number of times I started thinking "wait, couldn't you-" only to have it answered the next sentence. When his internal monologue mentioned dungeon resets being used for public waste disposal i practically cheered

Yarn for Christmas?
An open PSA to anyone with crafting friends (and isn't really sure what they like):
DON'T BUY THEM YARN
Part of the hobby is the purchasing yarn, which some might argue buying yarn and using yarn are two different hobbies. "But OP," you might argue, "I just know they'll love the Red Heart Super Saver I got on sale at Joann's! One skein should be plenty, and they can make me a sweater!"
This is one of those rare cases where a gift card to their favorite yarn store is more personal. First off, nothing against Red Heart, but if they're a yarn snob, it's going to collect dust. If they're a project-oriented purchaser, it's going to collect dust. If they like to buy yarn, then it's just mean.
Also, NEVER imply that your crafting friend should make something for you. If they love you, they will. If they don't, then you're not close enough to be making expensive demands.
