Loan waiver trust in Patna, Bihar - Abhinandan Trust
Tumblr media
Transforming Lives Through Debt Relief: The Abhinandan Loan Waiver Yojana
Debt can be a debilitating burden, trapping individuals and families in cycles of poverty and stress. In Bihar, where many people rely on small-scale agriculture, informal businesses, or daily wage labor, the struggle to repay loans often leads to financial and emotional crises. Recognizing this pressing issue, the Abhinandan Trust, based in Patna, launched the Abhinandan Loan Waiver Yojana, a program designed to provide relief to indebted individuals and help them rebuild their lives.
This blog explores the trust’s mission, the scope of the Loan Waiver Yojana, and the profound impact it has had on communities in Bihar.
About Abhinandan Trust
The Abhinandan Trust is a non-profit organization committed to addressing socio-economic challenges and uplifting underprivileged communities in Bihar. The trust operates several initiatives aimed at education, elder care, marriage support, and financial relief. The Loan Waiver Yojana is one of its cornerstone programs, focusing on easing the financial struggles of individuals and families burdened by debt.
The Need for Debt Relief in Bihar
Bihar is one of India’s most populous states, with a significant portion of its population engaged in agriculture and small-scale businesses. Despite hard work, many individuals face financial hardships due to:
1. High-Interest Loans
Many people borrow from informal moneylenders who charge exorbitant interest rates.
Over time, the accumulating interest makes repayment almost impossible.
2. Crop Failures
Farmers often take loans to purchase seeds, fertilizers, and equipment. Unpredictable weather and poor yields can leave them unable to repay.
3. Medical Emergencies
Families often incur debt to cover medical expenses, plunging them further into financial instability.
4. Small Business Losses
Entrepreneurs and small business owners who face market fluctuations or operational losses are often left with no means to repay loans.
The Abhinandan Loan Waiver Yojana addresses these challenges by providing targeted financial assistance and helping beneficiaries regain control of their lives.
Initiatives Under the Abhinandan Loan Waiver Yojana
The Loan Waiver Yojana is a comprehensive program that provides debt relief while empowering individuals to achieve long-term financial stability. Here’s how it works:
1. Debt Repayment Assistance
The program provides direct financial assistance to repay outstanding loans. This support is offered to individuals who:
Have taken loans for essential needs like agriculture, health care, or education.
Are unable to repay due to unforeseen circumstances.
2. Negotiation with Lenders
The trust negotiates with lenders, including private moneylenders and financial institutions, to:
Waive off excessive interest amounts.
Reduce the total loan burden on the borrower.
3. Financial Counseling
The trust provides beneficiaries with financial literacy training and counseling to:
Help them understand responsible borrowing practices.
Guide them in managing their finances more effectively in the future.
4. Skill Development Programs
To ensure long-term financial stability, the trust offers skill development and training programs that enable beneficiaries to:
Find better employment opportunities.
Diversify their income sources and become financially self-reliant.
5. Community Awareness Campaigns
The trust conducts awareness drives to educate communities about:
The dangers of taking high-interest loans from informal moneylenders.
The availability of government schemes and safer borrowing options.
The Impact of the Abhinandan Loan Waiver Yojana
The Loan Waiver Yojana has brought transformative changes to the lives of many individuals and families in Bihar. Below are some of the program’s key achievements:
1. Relief from Financial Stress
By paying off loans or reducing interest burdens, the program has provided immediate relief to families struggling to make ends meet.
2. Empowerment of Farmers
Farmers who were previously burdened by debt have been able to reinvest in their fields and achieve better yields, improving their livelihoods.
3. Support for Small Businesses
Entrepreneurs and small business owners have been able to recover from financial losses and restart their ventures, contributing to local economic growth.
4. Improved Mental Health
Debt relief has alleviated the psychological stress and anxiety associated with financial insecurity, fostering a sense of hope and confidence among beneficiaries.
5. Community Upliftment
By addressing the root causes of debt and promoting financial literacy, the program has created a ripple effect, positively impacting entire communities.
How You Can Support the Abhinandan Loan Waiver Yojana
The success of the Loan Waiver Yojana depends on the collective support of individuals, businesses, and organizations. Here’s how you can contribute:
1. Donate
Your donations can directly help individuals repay their loans and rebuild their lives. Every contribution makes a meaningful difference.
2. Volunteer
Join the trust as a volunteer to assist with financial counseling, skill training programs, or awareness campaigns.
3. Corporate Partnerships
Organizations can collaborate with the trust as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, providing funding or professional expertise.
4. Spread Awareness
Share the trust’s mission and success stories on social media or within your community to inspire others to support the cause.
The Abhinandan Loan Waiver Yojana is more than just a financial relief program—it’s a lifeline for individuals and families trapped in cycles of debt. By addressing immediate financial needs and promoting sustainable practices, the trust empowers beneficiaries to regain their independence and thrive.
Debt should never be a barrier to a better future. With your support, the Abhinandan Trust can continue its mission to transform lives and uplift communities across Bihar.

sorry if this is invasive, but do you mind me asking how you’re able to afford a master’s and even consider getting a Second out of the country? going to uni is a dream of mine and everybody around me is doing it, + i am from texas where it’s not as expensive as other states, but i cant wrap my head around how university is affordable for anybody in my generation but rich people and those w/ military benefits. i don’t get it. is everybody just taking out massive student loans and prepping to deal with it?? HOW is that worth it?? it genuinely baffles me
I’m getting my masters for free because I also work for the university. When choosing a place to get a masters or doctorate, look at their detailed funding outline. A lot of programs will let you teach or TA or work as a lab assistant in exchange for free tuition and a small living stipend. It’s not great. But it’s a livable amount of money if you budget correctly. The biggest expense is probably living here through the summer. I took out loans for that because tbh I don’t want to budget THAT carefully to save up for the summer but it’s possible to do.
As for my undergraduate degree, I lived at home and qualified for Pell grants and worked part time. Pell grants covered my tuition and part of my student fees because I went to a local state run college and my part time job paid for the rest of my student fees, books, personal expenses. I was also lucky enough to live within walking distance of my university so I didn’t need a car. If I did need a car I probably would’ve needed to work more hours than I did.
If you go to community college first, that’s often cheaper than doing all 4 years at a… well 4 year university. I mostly went to the 4 year because it was so close to my house and my dad worked there tbh. Pell grants paid for my tuition all 4 1/2 years I was there but they didn’t cover summer programs for me at least. My dad was able to get me a tuition waiver for summer classes because he works at the university. So I was really lucky that way as well.

Excerpt from this New York Times story:
Federal grants: On Monday, the Office of Management and Budget ordered a pause on almost all federal grants and loans, saying it was necessary to root out “D.E.I., woke gender ideology and the Green New Deal.” There is no such thing as the “Green New Deal,” but that language was clearly meant as a broadside attack on federal support for renewable energy projects. By Wednesday, the White House had rescinded that order, creating more confusion. But the scope of climate- and energy-related programs that could still be affected by such a freeze is vast, and includes several clean-energy programs and efforts working to limit pollution. Heatmap News compiled an extensive list.
Foreign aid: Last week, after a Trump executive order, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a 90-day freeze on almost all foreign aid. The stop-work order affected scores of programs around the world. Some projects have received waivers that will allow them to continue operating. But officials have already warned that programs focused on managing the impact of climate change will be permanently cut.
Fuel economy rules: On Tuesday, the newly confirmed transportation secretary, Sean Duffy, signed an order seeking to roll back fuel economy standards for automakers that had been set by the Biden administration. The move could result in more tailpipe emissions from cars and trucks, and slow the adoption of electric vehicles.
Wind power: Last week, one of President Trump’s first executive orders targeted wind energy. The move brought an immediate halt to all leasing of federal lands and waters for new wind farms, and directed federal agencies to stop issuing permits for all wind farms anywhere in the country for the time being.
Wind projects already under construction are unlikely to be affected for now. But some projects that were far along in the development process but awaiting final approvals may be scuttled.
Electric vehicles: Another executive order signed on Trump’s first day in office targeted electric vehicles. A tax credit for people buying EVs was scrapped, and federal funds intended to help install charging stations were put on hold.
While some funds that have been allocated for charging stations are still expected to be used, the moves are likely to slow the development of the electric vehicle industry in the United States, and help President Trump’s ally, Tesla chief executive Elon Musk. While Tesla is the largest EV maker in the country, it has its own network of fast chargers and stands to benefit if rival networks are slow to be built.
Some climate funding could survive: A Trump executive order targeting clean energy investments could affect the Department of Energy’s Loan Program Office, which under the Biden administration awarded $107.6 billion in loans and loan guarantees to help bring new energy technologies to market. But more than $60 billion of that has been finalized and would be hard for the Trump administration to claw back.
Companies that had received loan commitments from the agency say they are unsure when they might start receiving payments, though some pointed out that the agreements are legally binding and can’t simply be abandoned at will.

Question for you if you dont mind. If a team claims a player off waivers after the trade deadline, can that player play in the playoffs?
I don't mind and this is a hilarious scenario to talk about but it's accurate and it's saddening. Because if you get waived and you get claimed you are ineligible to play for the remainder of the season. And in order to be eligible to play in the AHL you had to be on the AHL roster before the trade deadline.
Meaning if a player gets waived and claimed they cannot even play in the AHL unless otherwise noted in a previous paper transaction.
So I'm going to do a quick breakdown of all of the post trade deadline rules for anyone & everyone who's not aware of them and or are new to hockey or the NHL
Teams can still waive and claim players however claimed players are ineligible to play for the remainder of the (NHL) season. We may see some later in the season for teams whose AHL teams are making the playoffs.
The trade deadline is not actually a hard cap on trades for the season. We will still be seeing people getting moved for future considerations, or for their AHL teams as the AHL trade deadline is exactly a week after the NHL
Players can still be signed. However players that are signed after the trade deadline that we're not already on the reserve list are ineligible to play in the playoffs. You'll probably see this most often with college signees or AHL boys that get NHL contracts and play the remainder of the season but are still ineligible for the playoffs
For a player to be sent down to the minors after the trade deadline they must have been on the AHL teams roster prior to the trade deadline. Players who are waivers exempt are still subject to this rule and as such that is why we saw a bunch of people sent down right before the trade deadline that way their players can get sent down for possible playoff runs. The only exception to this is players that need to go on conditioning loan Post injury (Long Term/LTIR) to make sure they're good to play in the NHL
The major rule post TDL is that teams only have four recalls (non-emergency) for the rest of the season. So paper transactions that during the beginning of the season would be often. Emergency recalls are limited to a team that has less than twelve (12) healthy forwards, six (6) healthy defense men, or their two (2) healthy goalies. Teams must be able to fill their roster in order to play they're required to have eighteen (18) skaters and two (2) goalies, and requires the cap space to be able to call these players up. When players become healthy again and are roster eligible they must then send the recalls back down or they are changed into a paper transaction and takes one of their four slots.
I'm tagging these people for opinions, corrections and exposure: @stereax @hard4softthings @robindrake13

ok excuse me putting on my emotional educator voice here
there is an effort nationwide to return higher education to its original status as an exclusive club for wealthy white kids. refusing to reduce student loan debt is a way to create access only for those who can afford it. cracking down on freedom of speech and DEI programs on college campuses is intended to silence marginalized voices. there's also a strong media campaign to tell young people that college isn't worth it, despite all of the statistics indicating that people with college degrees are doing better than those without.
i work here, and i am party to the conversations happening amongst administrators that students don't get to hear. there are a lot of complaints about how much students "have changed" (read: become poorer and browner than generations past), there's even more disdainful talk behind closed doors about how ungrateful, needy, and ignorant today's kids are (read: poorer and browner, again).
they know that unless they close the doors on higher education, it will continue to serve as one of the ONLY accessible pathways to upward economic and social mobility for marginalized groups. with upward mobility, these groups become more powerful.
DO NOT let them convince you that an education is worthless. that it's a waste of time and money.
once you have it, knowledge is one of the only things they can't take from you. once you have it, it's one of the few barriers they can't deny you. knowledge is power.
and there are more resources than ever to get you through college - hybrid coursework, scholarships, fee waivers, on-campus food banks, etc. It's especially worthwhile to look into community colleges in your area if time and money are very tight. some schools will even pay to support low-income students, though the admissions requirements can be pretty steep. (and there are definitely resources that will pay for your application cost!)
that's not to say it will be easy! but if you can go to school, you might have to fight tooth and nail for it, just like our relatives did at the start of desegregation. but it's worth that fight. you've GOT to get an education, maybe now more than ever.

"After the crucial second round of talks with the government failed to make any headway, the protesting farmers carried on with their Delhi Chalo march on Tuesday. There were reports of chaos on the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu border as the Haryana police fired teargas shells as farmers tried to break the erected barricades. Drones have been deployed to keep track of farmers’ movements, most of whom are on tractors.
Delhi has imposed Section 144 throughout the city for 30 days, erected barricades and iron spikes on the borders to prevent the farmers from entering the Capital.
Internet and bulk SMS services were suspended for Tuesday in seven districts of Haryana- Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa. Several farmer leaders’ social media accounts were also reportedly blocked the previous day.
The farmers’ protest, being led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, has been demanding legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, as promised by the BJP-led government at the Centre, among other demands like loan waiver and implementation of the MS Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations. The farmers participating in the protest are mainly from Punjab and Haryana."

Starting to get really pissed off about the way people talk about Biden's student loan forgiveness plan. Here's the authority he relied on, the Heroes Act, 20 U.S. Code § 1098bb:
"Notwithstanding any other provision of law, unless enacted with specific reference to this section, the Secretary of Education (referred to in this part as the “Secretary”) may waive or modify any statutory or regulatory provision applicable to the student financial assistance programs under title IV of the Act [20 U.S.C. 1070 et seq.] as the Secretary deems necessary in connection with a war or other military operation or national emergency to provide the waivers or modifications authorized by paragraph (2)."
This is the same authority Betsy DeVos relied on to pause loan payments during the pandemic.
I don't want to hear another person pontificate about this ever again without being able to tell me:
Why they think the statute does not straightforwardly allow the loan forgiveness program;
Why the Supreme Court felt that the statute didn't allow the loan forgiveness program;
Why Biden should have known the court would rule the way it did;
Whether you think Biden had an alternative authority to enact a loan forgiveness program and if so what that authority is.
The fact that most people can't seem to do any of these things but still confidently talk about how obvious it is that Biden never wanted student loan forgiveness in the first place makes me want to throw a chair through a window.

hi I do not want to overstep, but I work in financial aid and this year has been horrific to students and their families. I saw your post in the fafsa tag about tuition, and it is unacceptable that it is 2 weeks out from the bill being due and you don't have your offer.
a few things -- if that offer comes back and it is too low, you have the right to appeal the award amount (do you have educational tax credits, student loans you're repaying, grandparents you support financially, regular medical bills, etc that the office did not consider?). You might be able to request an extension on the bill's payment due to the lack of the letter.
if there are no late fees for paying the bill, then you might be able to hold on paying until you get your award letter and are able to evaluate the actual offer. Payment plans can help you spread out payments in chunks of 3,4,5 etc.
You can ask about deferring attendance, in the worst-case scenario.
Wishing you and your kid the best!!
Hi kind anonymous friend! I am ASTOUNDED at how messed up things are this year and honest to god think some kind of class action against General Dynamics is called for!! Or a senate hearing or something.
Thanks for the advice! I have reached out to the bursars office to inquire about payment deadline extensions and etc and am waiting to hear back.
TODAY we received a message that the noncustodial parent waiver we submitted months ago was rejected… which is just WILD and all but guarantees we will not have an aid package before classes start. The VERY INCREDIBLY HELPFUL email did not say WHY it was rejected, lol, so like, waiting to hear back about that too. (If you have any insight on what supporting documentation I can submit to prove that my ex left the country 10 years ago and we are unable to contact him that would be great😅).
Anyway, payment is due the 8th and move in is the 21st and we FULLY don’t know how much aid we’ll get or if we’ll get ANY which is absolutely bonkers and terrifying and I haven’t had a good nights sleep in weeks.
Anon I can only imagine how much this sucks for those of you working in financial aid offices, I hope you are taking care of yourself and that it hasn’t been too terrible!
