Hey, student loans payments are coming back in October, you should know about the SAVE plan.
this is america-centric but pls spread this around if you think any of ur mutuals could use the info.
If you're currently shitting yourself thinking how you're gonna start making student loan payments again, I suggest taking a deep breath, first off. Get comfy, put on some music and strap in.
If you got your student loans through the Federal Student Aid program FAFSA, then you can apply for an IDR (Income Driven Repayment plan) called SAVE.
what is SAVE?
This got my $115 monthly payment down to $40 a month, if you don't work or you can't afford much, this has the potential to reduce your payment even further.
Alls you need to do is go to https://studentaid.gov/idr/ and log into your federal student aid account, there's a section for both first time applicants and returning borrowers who previously may have had an IDR.
Even if you've done an IDR before! Look into the SAVE plan!! It forgave about 10k of debt for me!
Anyway, first time applicants can click the first option, "Apply for an Income-Driven Repayment Plan" and just go through and answer all their prompts, make sure you have all your financial information on hand (tax returns, most recent pay stub, etc) and go through the prompts until it gives you the option to apply for the SAVE plan. CLICK IT!
It should let you know at the end exactly how much you'll be paying per month and you should get an email confirmation as well. Any account specific questions should be directed to their call center +1 (800) 433-3243
GOOD LUCK AND BE PATIENT, THE SITE IS SLOW AS SHIT.
DON'T GIVE UP! I BELIEVE IN YOU!!
if you have any questions feel free to DM me btw

I keep hearing that grants go unused for college students (I believe the statstic you cited was $2.9 billion yearly) but I have no clue where to look? Like where are these grants I'm missing, I'd love $2.9 billion to pay for my schooling
We gotchu baby! Filling out your FAFSA will open you to a lot of them. We have more instructions here:

You should also look up "Pell Grants" on the interwebz. Good luck!

I'm currently in college and I'm STRUGGLING with paying off my tuition, I'm on disability so I don't make enough a month to pay it off and I was denied for FAFSA due to not having my GED in time for this semester.
Literally any donations would be so beneficial, I would appreciate it so much!

On the Dept. of Education
So, I see two kinds of people arguing online against shutting down DepEd. The first are those who have little to no idea what it actually does — the ones hysterically asking how anyone could want to just close every public school in America, or such.*
The second are those who do know what it primarily does these days — Federal student aid for college (processing the FAFSA, distributing Pell grants, Federal student loans, etc.) — and defend it on those grounds. And the more those people go on about the catastrophe that would befall so many American colleges and universities were that Federal money spigot to be suddenly shut off**, the more I want to post that Krieger meme from Archer.
*For those who don't know, such as our non-American readers, US public schools are primarily run and funded at the local level, by local school boards with local taxes, mostly property taxes; secondarily by state level education laws and policies, and only a distant, tertiary role for the Feds.
**Particularly if the people, like those at Cato and Mises, who have been arguing for years that it is primarily said Federal grants and loans that have allowed universities to grow the tuition and fees they charge faster than inflation for decades, are right.

Life feels weird to me right now.
My IST is in a what I like to call "waning stage" where I actually feel like a normal person.
I am trying to see if I can get my GERD better through diet. My doctor hopes I can get off my GI medications.
I am going to college this fall after dropping out back in 2018. I'm just waiting for FAFSA to go through.
I just feel very lonely and like I can't celebrate things because the person I tell everything to is acting like I'm trying to compete with them when I'm not.
I am currently trying to build my credit score so I can hopefully start the process of buying myself a custom wheelchair next year. I would only use it part-time and in very specific circumstances.
Life just feels weird right now.

Hello lovely bitches! I need some advice 🥲
Basically, the FAFSA fucked me over. They didn’t fix their algorithm to account for modern poverty and inflation, and I’m currently ineligible for Pell. This is an issue because—spoiler alert—I’m poor! I am financially eligible for Pell! I’m contacting FAFSA and my local senators about this really grave computer error.
Is there anything I can do financially to help save money in this time? Or at least anything I can do to freak out less 😅
Darling, we are SO PROUD OF YOU for contacting your reps and the FAFSA people. That is exactly what you should be doing, and it's not easy so good on ya. Let us know how it goes.
Other than that, this is everything we know about paying for school:
How To Pay for College Without Selling Your Soul to the Devil
Also, the comments are open if anyone else has ideas!
Did we just help you out? Tip us!

Punch Out post of the day - I’m finally applying to colleges so I had to fill out FAFSA (which is a notorious nightmare), and the process took multiple days. Because FAFSA stress was mixing with a Punch Out obsession I dreamt that one of the new requirements to fill out FAFSA was to execute a perfect Hippo Manippo during a single segment speedrun of Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, which, in my opinion, is only slightly more complex than the ACTUAL FAFSA requirements

There’s no question, the rollout of the revamped FAFSA – the Free Application for Federal Student Aid that millions of students must fill out to qualify for college loans and grants – was a slow-motion explosion of mistakes and miscommunication by the U.S. Department of Education. On Tuesday, though, the public got a detailed map of that disaster, thanks to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) and testimony before a House subcommittee. GAO investigators described a rollout so plagued by problems that many students had to choose and commit to a college without knowing if they could afford it. “Can you imagine?” Melissa Emery-Arras, a GAO director, told lawmakers. “It's like buying a house but not knowing how much aid you're going to get. And having to make a commitment right then and there.” These GAO reviews and testimony come as the department prepares to launch the next FAFSA cycle, which will again be delayed, with a small rollout in October and a full launch by December.

The new United States FASFA is abhorrent
It's basically confusing, glitchy, and I swear it not peer reviewed
But they did that on purpose I'm sure, as the new layout and questions is set out perfectly in a way to give out as little money as possible to struggling students.
