Lilith my beloved :33
YAYYY COMFORT CHARACTER ALERT. Her new design is fucking gorgeous omg. I tried something new by doing multiple drawings and it's really fun but time consuming lmao 😐 Also Transfem Lilith is one of my favorite headcanons and I adore it so much. Her character development was outstanding and she deserves love for how underrated she is.

Toh Hospital Au
(I’ve never actually watched any hospital dramas before)
This is just a adult human Au except with a focus on medicine
Luz, an oncologist, was determined to be one after the passing of her father.
Amity, pediatric rheumatologist, inspired by her own hand pain. Was originally going to be a dermatologist to make Odalia proud but met Luz in college after becoming roommates with her and changed her plans into a field she was actually passionate in. Pediatric because is Amity good with kids.
Vee is a RN in the ER. She good at adapting at different situations which is good for more high stake places like the ER. Her and Luz are sisters of course with Camila very proud of them both. She’s adopted. She didn’t want to go to medical school so decided on being a nurse instead. Worked in the hospital longer than Luz.
Gus is a patient advocate, he would be good very successful at his job and passionate on helping his clients receive the best treatment he can. He’s taken many clients with Luz.
Willow is sports medicine physician because it’s in her interest in athletics and helping others. She definitely still a plant addict and they cover her house and garden.
Hunter is a cytopathologist. He had a tough past (understatement) and was pretty isolated in college and medical school. He thought it would be the same in the hospital since he already took a no live patient job until he transferred to a different hospital and met Luz in the Cancer unit when diagnosing some patients. Where she invited him to hang out after work and they became friends along with the others.
They all look like older versions of their post-canon looks since they’re all in the mid 30s, except Gus who is like 31 to 32. Hunter still has his scars except their burn scars instead of possession ones. Luz and Amity are married and live together. Belos died sometime in Hunter stay in medical school and Amity, and her siblings are no contact with Odalia
Stringbean in a normal snake that Luz got from a rescue, Emmiline is a normal chameleon Gus recused, ghost is a normal cat Amity got in college, Clover is a bunny rescue( I’m not giving Willow a pet bee I’m sorry, instead her fathers do bee keeping as a hobby). Flapjack a cardinal that just lives with Hunter, like one day he showed and didn’t leave, he basically made Hunter his pet. Also Waffles does the same thing a few years later (because I love her). Flapjack lives longer than the average cardinal due to Hunter basically taking care of him. The other laugh when they find out he basically has two wild birds living with him.
Belos was pretty abusive to Hunter growing up until Hunter fled for college after realizing that it wasn’t right how he was treating him. He tried going no contact a few times but always broke it untill Belos eventually passed away while he was in medical school after succumbing to an illness. Belos was a successful pastor. (He was the owner one of those mega churches n stuff.) Hunters parents are Caleb and Evelyn. Caleb was killed by someone “unkown”, Evelyn died from an accidental overdose when Hunter was young, where Belos got custody of him rather than the Clawthorne family. The burn scars came from an “accident” in middle school for Hunter.
Gus went to high school early and had a hard time with people not taking him seriously in both school and even when doing his job ( no body cared in college) but was able it receive support from his friends and push forward.
They all met in college and became friends (except Hunter who went somewhere else). Amity and Willow here childhood friends before Amity began bullying her in middle school where they went to separate high schools. Gus and Willow met in high school and were also roommates in college.
Other notes,
Viney is a general practitioner, puddles is an absurdly large pigeon she has.
Emira is a paramedic.
Other characters are not in the medical field like Edric who’s a small animal veterinarian, Lilith who is a historian, and Eda who is a store owner.
Again this is basically my Human realm Au with emphasis on the medical field.

I love raeda so much with all my heart and organs and blood and the very last lifetime I'll live but my brain can't stop thinking about scenarios of hurting one or both of them. So, here's a long post ahead. Partially fluff mixed with a little bit of angst, and ofc, comfort.
Word count: 5300
Oof, that's longer than I expected.
--------------------------------------------------
AN OLD FRIEND
They said time heals all wounds. Yet why does every time the hour hand ticks felt like it is stabbing her over and over again?
They said everything turns better in time. But time is eternal, it takes longer than expected, and even longer to wait for.
She rose from the pile of twigs, gasping, sweating, and catching her breath. The silence of the night made her hear ringing in her ear. It was too loud to even bear. The coldness of the night seems to be not enough to prevent her from being drenched in her own sweat.
She brought her hands to wipe away the buckets of sweat resting on her forehead, along with the sticking hair and slipping tears.
She sighed and forced herself to calm down by reaching for the bottle of apple blood laying somewhere in her nest.
It's been years since... Raine left. Two years to be exact, yet it already felt like centuries since they departed. The very last person in her generation that is now at the other side of the realm. At the realm where nobody has seen.
First, her parents. Her parents that she just get to be with for only a few years after she came back. Second, Lilith. Her dear sister whom she didn't got to properly say goodbye.
Now, Raine.
How many times the life she has now will remind her that she's outgrowing them all?
And it is obvious that she isn't taking their fall easily. It's still hard for her.. Titan, she can't even bring herself to say the word that is best to describe someone who's not in the world anymore.
Days for her were never easy. Her kids, Hunter, Luz and King keep her company often after that one of her loved ones left her again. Most of the days, they'll stay here along with their own families and keep her entertained. But on some days, she's again alone.
She's grateful and happy whenever they are around. She always find herself smiling and laughing again whenever they make their usual shenanigans and bring chaos to the whole clan of Blight, Noceda, Clawthorne, and Whispers. Sometimes, if her kids aren't too busy, they'll even accompany her for the rest of the night here with Hooty. Just like the good old days.
But things doesn't stay the same.
King, being the leader of the most powerful and strongest elite force can barely even take a rest of the week break. Not to mention that he's also ruling his own Kingdom and keeping intruders away from his homeland. He's busy, she knows that. Her despotic overlord had grown...
She misses those days wherein he'll go to her and order her to get the jar of cookies that Luz baked above the cupboards, or blow someone up. She misses those days where she takes him at the slayground and act like the ruler of the Isles towards the little witchlings before him. She just misses the days where he'll just... be King. The short tempered, bossy, and rare days of him being sweet.
He had grown so, so much.
She doesn't want to bother her bad but sad boy either. Poor kid, even though he's almost passing the crown to his youngest since his two eldest has no eye for the crown, his state right now reminds her of the Hunter she knew before. Only a lot more older and less grumpy.
Elmer and Alliah, his twins, made it clear to their Father that none of them doesn't want to continue his legacy of ruling the Isles.
Eda can already see their potential on becoming one of the elite force that their Uncle King handles even when they were kids. With their natural strength that she claims that they inherited from her which is impossible, their brilliant minds and brave hearts that came from their parents, it's not impossible for the both of them to maybe lead the Forces of the Isles one day.
And she's right, they both want that path.
Hunter, being the understanding Father he is, understand where they are coming from. Ruling the whole Isles where witches perform all forms of magic is surely a hard thing to even think of. He once thought before to just pass it to King, who frantically declined the offer after he experienced the most stressful day of his life when he get to act as Leader of the Isles for three days.
She can still remember how he cried out of joy when his youngest, Lirah, declared that she wanted to follow his Father's legacy. He even asked her if he's hearing things, because everyone knows that Hunter's youngest has her own world and doesn't care for anything else but her big family and palismans. And when Lirah gave him the assurance he asked, that's when he cried out of joy.
"Are you sure about this, kid? Ruling the entire Isles is a hard work. What makes you think differently now?" She asked right after her granddaughter's announcement.
The eight year old blonde smiled at her cheekily, petting her Auntie Amity's palisman in her hands while her Father's red cardinal nests above her hair that is tied in a bun. "Simple, Lola. Everyone who breathes is needed to be taken care of. We breathe, palismans breathe, what makes witches and demons different? They breathe too, so they are animals. I like animals!"
She clearly remembers how Lilith choked on her own apple blood. Raine who's tuning their violin beside her went too far that their string snapped. Luz and her other family members nearly died out of laughter while Hunter helplessly placed their head above Emira's shoulder.
She can't either bother Luz to stay with her even just for a moment. She and her family decided to have a vacation at the human realm after so many stressful attempts to take her with them. Sure she can just accept Luz's offer and try to clear her mind at the other side of the realm, but then she knows it won't work. She'll just miss the view of the never quiet and now temporarily less dangerous Isles.
She's still in the state of trying to move on. And by moving on means staying at that very same place.
"Are you sure you won't come with us, Eda? We can commit as many chaos you want-" A brown haired, pale white witch emerged from the portal she made.
"Only as little as possible." The witch said strictly as she went beside Luz and clasped their hands together. Luz pouted, and it made her chuckle as she ruffled her hair.
"I'll pass for now, kid. Someone haf'ta watch over Hooty." As if on cue, her house demon slammed open the door he's in that caught their attention.
"Hoot! I don't need a babysitter. I'm a big boy house!"
"Someone have to be reminded to be careful not to DESTROY the items INSIDE the household." To emphasize her statement, she gave a pointed look at the door Hooty's in that lay on the ground.
Her house is getting old. Her house demon is upgrading in decreasing order.
"But..." Her former apprentice was about to pursue her to come with them when another brown haired witch emerged from the portal. Catching her breath, she stopped in front of the three.
"Hello, Tiya! As much as I wanted to stay a little more but, AZURY IS HALFWAY ON DESTROYING MAMITA'S KITCHEN!" The poor girl yelled frantically, startling both her Moms as Eda let out a chuckle.
"Azura, you could've just magically poof the fire out?"
"There are visitors, Mamá!"
"Azure Yvonne Blight Noceda! You better have a good explanation on this!" Amity ran over the portal as fast as her daughter came at them. All was left was Luz who's obviously itching to run after her wife.
Eda patted her shoulder and gave her an assuring smile. "It's not like you don't know me at all. I'm gonna be fine, kid."
Luz let out a sigh and did her parallel arm thing. She still remember how she hated this before, but now she found herself longing for that affection.
The light weight of the bottle in her hand made her groan. She even tried to pour the remaining drops of apple blood in her mouth, but then, to eventually calm herself down, she has to drink that juice.
Not just a drop or a glass, but a gallon of it.
She lazily went out of her nest and head her way downstairs towards the kitchen. The surroundings was as black as void, but being the night owl she is, it was easy to walk away from the human junks scattered all over the floor that an ordinary person can't normally see with this darkness.
She has no time to clean the house, not when she's too busy either distracting herself by making potions, selling human junks at the market and committing felony on the way or looking at nothingness until she find herself bawling her eyes out unknowingly.
She opened the fridge and immediately found the thing she's looking for. She was about to head upstairs and spend her conscious times by chugging the apple blood until she passes out when she saw the front door opened and pieces of paper scattered at the living room, heading its way out.
She didn't get alarmed unlike anyone else who found their house opened in the middle of the night. She has Hooty to take care of unwanted visitors. His voice and endless words is enough to protect the house from pests.
But the question is, why is he up so early?
She found him doing something in a piece of paper laying on the ground. He extends his worm like body to eventually keep the paper in place and use his beak to... fold it?
She leaned on the door frame, the gallon of apple blood still in hand. "Why are you up so early?"
Did he even sleep?
Her house demon didn't seemed alarmed as he already felt her movement lately. He twisted his long neck and greeted her in his usual high pitched voice. "Hello, Eda! You are surprisingly early today!"
"Uh-huh, what are you doing?" She stepped closer so she could take a proper look to what he is doing. She didn't get any reaction but curiosity when she couldn't even pin point what on the Titan's name Hooty is murdering a piece of paper.
"Hooty, what the heck does this supposed to look like?" She raised her brow while looking at him.
"Well that is a paper, hoot-hoot."
"... And what are you doing at the paper?"
"Actually, I was trying to get it look like it was a swan!"
She deadpanned. "You murdered the 'swan'."
She immediately thought that she picked the wrong words when she watched how his face fell from being happy to being down.
"Hoot-hoot, I know. I may have been using your papers to eventually make something for Lulu."
Her ears twitched upwards, the last word caught her attention. She can feel her heart race at the mention of her nickname to him.
Since when was the last time she heard him say that in front of her? As far as she recalls, it's been a while. The reason is because, well, after Lilith's... downfall, she became emotionally unstable to the point she broke down with just the mention of her name.
Same goes for Hooty. The early days after her sister passed away also brought a toll to her house demon. She understands the way he felt. After so many years, someone finally have all the time to withstand his presence that everyone finds annoying, but not to her sister. She wonders how on Titan she got the longest patience towards him when she clearly has a thin patience towards the former Golden Guard.
She realizes that friendship comes in different ways. Sometimes even the unexpected.
She looked back at the crumpled and unrecognizable paper on the ground, then back at him. She sighed. "Do you want help with that?"
Hooty gasped. He coiled himself and let out a delighted laughter. His sudden rise of mood made her to eventually plaster a small smile.
She sat on the ground as she set aside the gallon of apple blood beside her. Hooty brought out another bundle of papers and dumped it in front of her. Later on, they started crafting.
She can feel the nostalgia every time she folds the piece of paper. She's not that good in making art by folding just a paper without magic, but she knows her way in making an acceptable art because of a certain witch teaching her before.
Although it's been years since she last did paper folding, specifically when they were young, so the first trial didn't come out well.
She didn't get it at the first try. Then the second, third, and so on. But eventually as the night run older, she started to get the hang of it.
Every time the paper got fold, a piece of art started to develop. She shows Hooty how to make a simple swan step by step without tearing the whole thing apart. And when she did the final touch, the once plain paper turned into an acceptable form of paper swan.
Hooty made hooting noises out of delight. "It's bea-HOOT-iful, Eda! Thank you!" To express his gratitude more, he wrapped himself around the chuckling orange haired witch. At times like this, she'll get irritated and force to let herself go from her house demon's grasp.
Well, time changes things.
At least just for the night. Having no single drop of apple blood has its side effects.
It took a while to get Hooty out of her skin. And when she did, the chilly breeze of the night cooled her sweaty shirt. She watched how Hooty took a new paper to make another one, the swan she did is in front of him for reference. One thing she wonders about Hooty is that, how can he hold things up?
Instead of going inside since her work here is done, she found herself still sitting beside him. She brought out her thirty still flirty cup and poured her apple blood in it until full. She drank the liquid as she lifted her gaze, watching the clouds above them slowly moves as the stars twinkle to outshine the other.
"How did you do it, Hooty?"
Her house demon didn't give her a glance as it continues to make the swan. He's too engrossed to finish what he had started that he didn't even give a glance when a bug flew passed him.
An important doing he has to commit right now is to make 'a thing for Lulu'.
"It's okay if you admit that you forgot to make the paper swan, Eda! Hooty, the Guardian of Ka-Hoot will help you remember!" He said in high spirits. Eda shook her head, plainly giving a chuckle.
"What I mean is... How did you manage to move on that quick? After Lilith's... death." She swallowed the lump in her throat. "It only took you months to be your usual self again. It didn't even took for half a year. How did you do it?" She blinked back the tears that threatens to fall. Funny how she has cried enough to make a river and yet she still have tears to shed.
"I... I want to be like that. It's been years... I don't want to stay like this the rest of my life. I don't like this. They won't like to see me like this." Her voice was almost pleading, breaking.
Every time a tear rolls down her cheek, she can't help but to think that she's breaking her promise to them all over again. She knows that they're already at peace to the place over the sunset, but she knows they are not happy to see her like this.
There are days where she can keep her emotions all by herself without anyone worrying about how she is feeling. She can pretend she's already okay, that she has finally moved on. But when the quiet days and nights strike, when she see the empty space beside her nest, the empty chairs in her home, the silence echoing loudly all over the house, that's when she let the bottled emotions pour.
It was hard to pretend that she's okay when she can barely even hold herself together whenever she's alone.
She doesn't want to stay like this. She wants to finally take a step, even just small little steps, to moving on. She wants to see herself in the mirror again, the usual self she often see before these sequence of tragedy striked.
She wants to see herself smirking evilly, grinning widely, laughing her ass out like nobody's business, and having fun while committing felony.
The owl-worm-like demon stared at her, his round brown eyes felt like he is looking through her soul. "Do you want to know a secret, Eda?"
What does she expect, him giving her the answers she needed? Well... It's worth the shot.
"Hoot! The first time you found me, was never really the first time you found me!"
A puzzled look formed in her face. She raised one of her brow and let out a snort. "Dang, you really need to be fixed." She muttered but the owl worm in front of her even smiled wider. It's creeping her out.
"How is this related to my problem? Stop making that face, you're creepy."
The owl worm shook his head and stretched his neck closer, a one arm length apart distance. "I shouldn't supposed to be telling you this because it is against the law of the Titan-"
There's a law that the former Titan made?
"Do not interrupt!" She jolted from her seat as Hooty glared at her. She said that out loud? "As I was saying, what I'll tell you would be against the law of the Titan." He demonically chuckled. Swear, she's close to getting the chainsaw and cutting him into two.
"But you're already the Titan-"
"Not a Titan. Just a Demi one." She spits those words in a disgusted tone. One thing she can't still accept is that the blessing the Titan gave to her. It's more than another curse--a much worse curse rather than a blessing.
"Fiiinnee... You are now the Demi-Titan so what law am I breaking again?"
"Hooty!"
"Just kidding! Back to the topic!" Eda stopped herself from leaning backwards when he leaned closer until his beak stopped two inches away from her ear.
What he said next made the tiny hairs all over her body rise.
"You found me plenty of times already before! Back in your past lives!"
She glared at the bird tube who's now more likely grinning in front of her. She shove his face away and drank her apple blood straight from the bottle.
She consumed five full gulps before glaring back again at her house demon. "You seriously need to get checked first thing tomorrow."
Hooty shook his head, like he's disappointed at her slow functioning brain.
"Hoot! Eda, do you think I would lie to you?" He sounded hurt, but then she's a con-artist so she knows better than to fall for his actions.
"Do you want me to count the times you innocently gave me different types of food that knocked me off in a maximum record of four days?"
"You didn't sleep for a nearly a whole week straight! I'm just being a concerned ka-hoot-izen." He defended. She rolled her eyes.
"But seriously, you found me plenty of times already. Do you know that house demons are built by the same person they are with in the present? Of course you don't because it is a secret..."
She just stared at her house demon, completely bewildered and stuck at laughing to his face.
She can't feel whether he is lying or not. But she can tell that something in her is so close on believing.
She found Hooty when she was younger, when she was still running away from her Mom because of bringing another healer on their house in attempt to get rid of her curse. But she knows already that she's already stuck with it, so she ran. She found Hooty when she was seeking shelter from the boiling rain. She found an abandoned house, wrapped in vines and unnecessary wastes.
The thought of the house being abandoned vanished when she stepped at the front door as golden bright eyes appeared before her eyes that seemed to be staring straight unto her soul.
The house was alive.
And the rest is history, the house demon presented his name as Hooty.
Hooty, the Owl House.
"Enlighten me, Owl boy." She challenged, taking another sip on the container to calm her tensing nerves.
"It doesn't actually needed to be explained long. What you witches know is that we, house demons, are just abandoned houses found either in the woods or civilization."
That's a big word for Hooty.
"But what you witches don't know is that, when we are found by someone, we are already bonded to them back in the past. The same way how witches bond with their palismans, only we don't crumble to dust after their witch dies. We wait, and wait, and wait, until the day comes of hibernation. We'll get put in a deep, long sleep once the witch who made us is finally born the how many times around. And when they do and found us again, that's when we'll woke up! Hoot! Isn't that a good thing?"
"What are you trying to say?"
"You didn't just found me in the woods just like you remembered, but more likely that you came back to me! Because originally, you built me before, Eda. A long, loong, looooong time ago."
She doesn't know what to say. She's too overwhelmed to even produce a single word. Her mind is badly even cooperating as it seemed like it has malfunctioned after the thing her house demon revealed.
Now she confirmed that he isn't joking. He's not getting himself wobbly, a thing he does when he lies. He doesn't even laugh or mix his words with Dad jokes that doesn't even make sense.
He's not lying.
She's believing.
"I have waited hundreds of years to be with you again, Eda. Every time you found me back in your previous lives, what I feel is always been the same. I am happy. Very, very happy."
Hooty coiled himself and smiled cheekily to demonstrate what he had said. All Eda could do is watch his every move. She's already processing every bit of words he say, and she can't believe her own ears.
If she had lived previous lives before, then why can't she just do it again? Why can't she just disappear now and be born again in the future? Why is she supposed to be granted by eternal youth... eternal life? Why her?
He uncoiled himself and leveled himself just in front of her eye. "You don't bear the same face in your every lifetime. But even though the witch in front of me looks different, I know deep down that you are still the person who built me. That I am facing the very same witch who saved me from being eaten by a griffin, days after I hatched!"
Despite how serious she is so she could process his words clearly, she can't help but let out a chuckle at his last sentence.
Fighting a griffin--especially if it is born in the wild--is like picking a fight with skilled construction coveners.
She's that strong a long way back, if she sets aside her unstable state of emotions, she can still declare herself strong.
Then, she wonders. "Why are you telling this to me? Isn't this supposed to be restricted to tell to other souls?"
He shook his head immediately. "I'm telling you this not because I want you to know that you lived lives before. I'm telling you this to inform you that... Our life doesn't stop after one of our loved ones leave us. It is okay to weep, it is okay to cry, it is okay to miss them each and every day. Because that is normal, missing every bit of them is a way to show that we cared, that we are affected by their loss. Grief is not a weakness, but a price of love."
Something about Hooty is that, even though how much annoying his voice and words could get, there's sometimes a point where he talks more wisely and sensible that you think he's incapable off.
He moved away for a moment before returning and showing her the paper he is folding lately. It was the swan he built himself, it wasn't perfect, it's not even close on being finished. Using his beak, he fished the crumpled papers all over them and arranged them all on one place.
"Think of the challenges as this paper swans. One is finished, and the other is still needed to be done." He topped her paper swan as the final touch as he resumed in making his own.
"But look around the other way too. We also crumble, we also turn out to not be okay. It takes time for us to learn, to try again, to take another shot before we get to see the outcome of the risks."
She doesn't understand what Hooty is saying, not until it slowly sinks in.
"The process is long, and you may get impatient, but when you are determined enough to continue what you have started," He smiled, topping his creation beside the swan she made.
"The outcome will be worth it." She stared at the two swans as she mumbles those words. All of a sudden, she thought about those swans as two sisters, a spouse, and a family.
"You ask me how did I moved on? I didn't. Because I know she'll come back. It may take another long time of waiting, but at least I have someone now who'll wait for her arrival and welcome her in open arms--I mean, worm body because that's what I am, hooty-hoot!"
Her eyes turned misty, then, she knew she was on the verge of crying again.
"How come you didn't? She was your best friend!" She snapped.
"Part of me went away with her too, Eda. But you know what? You're my very first friend too before. And when I lost you the first time, all I did was to grief for your loss. It's... sad... and painful. It's like the times slowed down. I thought I'll never get to see you again." He lowered his head. "But then, you came back. Then the process repeat over and over again. That's when I realize... that's life. We got to get left behind, but we won't be alone for the rest of our lives."
"I know Lulu is already in a better place, watching us and guiding us every step we take. If I spend my life grieving, then what is the use of living? All we have right now is... survive and live the best we can. Even if our best isn't the best we can give, we're still going to be better. It's still called progress."
She shut her mouth, unable to say anything because she knew Hooty will just question her further. It's like his words were daggers despite how soft and unharmed it is, making its way deep in her flesh.
The pain she thought she could hide from everyone burst out of her like fireworks booming the dark vast sky. Only it isn't meant to brought joy, but to let go of the grief and fear and let someone see how sad it could be.
Ever since Raine died, she didn't let anyone see how badly it affected her. She just... went quiet. It was like the world punished her for all her crimes a way back and decided to take each one of them one by one.
The realization of outgrowing them each day and every night is much painful than being hit by all forms of magic at once.
She smiles a lot, laughs a lot, pretends to be alright in front of them a lot. But when she's alone, that's when the quietness bring the realization of everyone leaving her behind. That's when the smile turns upside down, the laughter turning into sobs, and the facade she made crumbles down.
No one was there to see how messed she was, and then there is Hooty. The one she never thought to be the one who'll see through the walls she built to keep everyone from worrying. The one she never thought to see her cry.
"Hoot, hoot... It's okay, Eda. You are not alone, you will never be alone."
The one she never thought to be her shade of comfort under the rain.
He wrapped himself around her, shielding her away from feeling the cold night's breeze. The warmth immediately spread on her body, and it also reached her heart.
She's been comforted before, by her kids when they'll notice her staring at nowhere, knowing that she's thinking and missing them again. It was a good, rare feeling to know that someone's there.
But being comforted by someone that she least expected... it's different. An also good type of different.
Hooty carefully and slowly used his head to pat the top of her orange mane.
"It's okay not to be okay. We all have our own phase to complete, you don't need to catch up with others if it's still hard to move forward. But we have to accept the inevitable reality, we have to accept the price of playing with time. Take your time, Eda. Just take your time. And I wish you one day, you'll finally free yourself from the pain."
She realizes that she will always have a constant friend. An old house demon, and a loyal palisman who'll stay until the day when the clock stopped to tick.
A found family.
Someone who's there at her best, and still stayed at her worst. Someone who didn't just embraced the boiling rain to shelter her, but also someone who stayed until the next rise of the seething sun.
"You're really something, Hooty. When did you get so wise?" She wiped away her tears, a hope that she'll never get to wipe them again out of pain and sadness.
He let out a soft hoot.
"What can I say? It's all because of the influence of a great witch I know, hoot-hoot!"
Finally, after the long nights of waking up in agony blended with memories haunting her in her dreams, she finally got the glimpse of the calm after the storm.
She smiled, gazing over the horizon to find the emerging crystal blue moon behind the clouds.
"Thank you, Hooty. I'll take note of that."
All of that.
She'll keep all Hooty's words in mind.
She'll try to embrace the new day again. She'll try to keep going... Keep moving.
She'll try to keep her promise... She'll try to be genuinely happy again, without breaking if ever she'll again be alone.
Maybe waiting for the next sunrise won't take that long, she'll just have to appreciate how the stars twinkle, how the moon lit her skin, how the quiet surroundings bring serenity to one's soul. Maybe waiting could also be spend in a worthwhile way...
A new angle.. A new beginning... to continue life with her old friend.
Her oldest family.
Hooty.

I respect all TOH ships, but please also respect the one I ship 😭
Also, I changed the timeline in my first fanfic. I realize that they spent too much time together and now I'm hurting myself even more.
Thanks for reading!

Okay time to elaborate on the Wild Witch Lilith au bc its actually a lot more than her being. You know: a wild witch
So while Lilith’s running away is the CAUSE of these changes, Raine and Hunter are both more prominent in this as well.
Lilith messed up and was going to be petrified, but got out before they could even announce it. She becomes a wild witch but keeps in contact with Raine Whispers, a school friend, as well as one child in the Emperor’s coven: Hunter, the golden guard.
She leaves hunter a note that directs him to Raine and the two of them learn to get along (after, of course, it’s explained that Lilith allegedly left him a note. Even then, Hunter is suspicious. He didn’t know Lilith further than a nod or possibly a shared mission. But she expressed worry for him, so after a lot of time, he decided to - hesitantly - take her up on her offer to meet a friend. It will take him a while to trust them truly.)
More in a storytelling form under the cut
It’s about two months later that Lilith manages to catch Hunter at Raine’s house. She comes in through the back door and is searching lazily through her bag for the spices she apparently promised last time she intruded. Seeing Hunter makes her falter. “Ah, the golden guard.” While she doesn’t seem particularly excited, she certainly doesn’t sound upset.
Raine looks confused. “Was he not the one you gave the letter to?”
“Oh no, he is.” Lilith says, still standing by the door. “I just didn’t particularly expect to ever really... see him.” Now she moves to the table where they’re sitting and seats herself in one of the chairs. “You won’t hand me over to the emperor, will you?”
Hunter shakes his head.
Raine elbows Lilith in the arm. “Never expected to see him? Don’t tell me you were planning on leaving me to take care of a kid alone every other Saturday?”
Any stress that Lilith may have had drains from her as she laughs. “Is that when I should have been dropping by? Our friday date nights don’t work for you?” Raine laughs too, and Hunter doesn’t recognize the atmosphere. It’s calm, and it’s teasing, and it’s nice. He comes back more often.
(Lilith and Raine talk a few weeks later, Hunter having come and left for the day. Raine raises a brow over their glass of cider and asks if this means they have both have custody over a child. Lilith laughs. She says that, well, maybe they do.
Raine leans back in their chair. “However will we assure we won’t fall in love?”
Lilith rolls her eyes fondly. “Easy. I think you’re stupid.” She’s teasing and they know it.
“That’s a bold move against a teacher, Clawthorne.” Then, in retaliation: “Well, it’s good I think you’re annoying, then.” They’re teasing too.
A pause after their laughter has subsided. Then, and Raine asks this one too, “Wait- are we sharing custody with the Emperor?”
Lilith makes a choking sound over her glass of water, and then, a dribble of water coming from the corner of her mouth, says, “I can promise you I won’t fall in love with him.”
Raine raises their glass with a mock solemnity. “Cheers to that.” Their cups clink together.)
Lilith and Raine are there for Hunter. They’re there for when he’s hurt and there for when he’s happy. Raine is a wonderful teacher and Lilith is happy to show the magic that they can’t supply.
(Hunter has no magic and can’t use what the two of them teach him, but Lilith, out of all of them, is the closest to having the ability to use wild magic. Wild magic is the ability to mix magic as one pleases, and it’s with great annoyance that she finds she can’t do that. “I thought the emperor’s coven was the only coven where witches don’t get their magic restrained!” She complains, later.)
Hunter learns how to play instruments, and Lilith enjoys attempting the xylophone, when Raine chooses to bring one home.
(She enjoys the simplicity and the sound, she says. Raine steals the mallets from her and produces two more, playing a quick song with the mallets pressed between their fingers. “Is it simple now, Clawthorne?” They ask, and turn around to their awed audience. There’s a sudden realization that they have a two person crowd watching, and with a flushed face, they call off the rest of the day’s music lessons.)
Hunter enjoys the guitar and clarinet, they find. The piano is an old friend to him, and he’s happy to play it mindlessly when he has nothing else to do.
(He plays it the day Raine first finds him with a bandage on his face. They can’t convince him to take it off, but he wears it for a month. There’s a scar on his face after the bandaid is gone. He doesn’t say anything about it and Raine doesn’t press. There was something sad about his song on the day Raine found him playing.)
Raine and hunter convince Lilith to dye her hair a light blue grey (They requested white, to match with their general scheme, but she refused.) and Lilith gets Raine to add a gem to their outfit. Hunter can’t get anything permanent, but both adults enjoy playing with his hair while he’s with them.
Lilith and Raine have cared for Hunter for two years now. Raine’s been climbing up the ranks, and while Hunter is away, (Hunter is a good kid, but he feels an obligation to his uncle. Neither adult knows what to do about it. All they can do is give him as safe a space they can.) they talk about ways to mess up any plans Belos may have. On a late night, Raine admits that Eda (the name is spoken with mixed feelings. Neither saw her last under good circumstances.) was the cause of their drive to do something about the terribleness of the coven system. Lilith says nothing.
She lives more at Raine’s house now. Sleeping on the couch after helping them with a plan, then leaving if there’s ever a knock on anything but a window (Hunter refuses to come in through a door) to keep from the possibility of them getting arrested for holding a criminal in their home. Wandering the city never ceases to be nerve wracking, even with the difference in her appearance.
She was only at the convention to cheer on Hunter. While his place as the mystery guest unnerved both her and Raine (He was only sixteen. Taking place as figurehead of the coven was too much.) he seemed excited, so they congratulated him, and Lilith confronted the terrifying possibility of being recognized to go clap for his performance.
She was recognized. Somehow, her sister spotted her (Was she not also a wild witch? She hated covens, and really, Lilith saw no reason for her to be at such a convention.) and asked about her disappearance. Lilith rolled her eyes and dusted off every question, interrupted only by a human child asking for Eda’s help.
“I’ll leave you to it then,” Lilith said, and walked off. Her sister’s “I’m not done with you!” Only made her chuckle as she searched for Hunter in the crowd.
Lilith attempted to leave a long while later. Apparently the place where the human’s witch’s duel had taken place was broken rather severely. She’d stuck around only long enough to see that most spectators were gone, and she watched both the young Blight and the human storm out of the door before Edalyn pointed up at her.
“HEY LILITH!” Eda called. “I WANT TO TALK!”
Lilith narrowed her eyes and called up magic. “WELL I DON’T!” She yelled back.
That was how Lilith ended up in Raine’s house, bruised and annoyed. Lilith refused to admit how she ended up hurt, tight lipped as she healed herself and avoided eye contact with the equally amused and concerned bard on the sofa.
The next time Lilith saw Eda was after making a bet with Raine. Lilith was terrible with alcohol, honestly, and it didn’t get much wine to get her talking smack. It was a blurry memory, but all she knew is that she needed to get some sort of powerful artifact, to prove... something to Raine.
A flower of youth sounded good. She gained a map, and with a small offhand comment about what her sister must look like now (She’d seen posters, and a younger Eda’s hair was growing white already). She was doing perfectly fine on her own, but somehow, for some reason, her sister had decided to tag along. Which was fine! They were bonding a bit, really. Especially after the blood sucker (emphasis on sucker. Little bitch.) started trying to scare them. Cute, but the sisters were mean when they wanted to be, and oh, did Lilith want to be.
She lost the bet, but she saw her sister again. Under better circumstances (though only barely) and without a fight. She could call that a win.
It happened again (Not a clue how she got roped into a grudgby match, but it was fun while it lasted.) and again (Eda finally getting caught on account of that little human she found was terribly tragic.) and again (also getting caught after accidentally slipping to the human that she’d caused Eda’s curse was more than a little embarrassing.)
She wanted to say sorry. She didn’t think it was enough.
Eda was understandably upset.
Lilith didn’t have a proper cure. She’d been looking for one for a while now, but even any knowledge about the curse she’d used was gone. All she had to make up for it all was her backup plan.
“With this spell declared, let the pain be shared.”

Your Vinira is sSO SWEET MY HEART US MELTING! How Viney not only accept Emira' stutter but straight up loves it?! Oh my poor bleeding heart! Now, my own question: How do the redeemed Blight parents react to their relationship?
Ooohhh see at least in my Willumity headcanons, Alador and Odalia don’t redeem themselves for several years. Like, maybe 8 or 9 years from when our girls first start dating. I imagine Viney and Emira become a thing in roughly the same time frame. So Emira doesn’t even tell her parents about her girlfriend. Viney introduces Emira to her parent(s) (eventually, maybe after like 6 months of dating?? Maybe a year?) and they are super wary at first because a Blight???? Is dating our daughter?????? And Viney reassures them that yes, they’re dating and it’s not some wild ruse. That being said, the heads of the Blight family also don’t know they’re dating so like. They’re trying to keep their relationship on the DL.
But if I’m gonna dip deeper......
( way deeper. This is another one of those Long One’s, lol )
I think....if Alador and Odalia catch wind of their daughters dating people they don’t approve of, there would be hell to pay. Like, all of them being grounded until further notice and that means escorts to and from school, no friends, no extra curricular activities, nothing but school and home. Not even their “approved friends” are able to communicate with them because their scrolls would be confiscated. Tutors (babysitters) while they do homework and further studying on weekends. No contact with the outside world. And if they even try to speak with anyone at school? They’ll all be pulled from Hexside and be homeschooled from then on.
All the while they’ll be using their connections to have Viney, Willow and Luz expelled, permanently. They may not have too much sway over these delinquents’ lives, but they’re going to make sure they’ll never be able to advance in society. And then they find out that this “Luz” is the Human that dared go against Emperor Belos? I can’t even begin to imagine the hell they’d bring down on them all.
So yeah, there’s a lot of disaster scenarios like that that haunt the Blight girls and ensure that they’ll never tell their parents of their relationships and will keep most displays of affection away from the rats that would somehow get the word back to them. At first it might hurt Luz and Viney to not be able to be affectionate, but Willow 100% understands. She already has that history looming over her in her memory. Viney and Luz will often use the Secret Room of Shortcuts in order to just hang out with their respective girls between breaks when they can.
I genuinely don’t know how the timeline of events will play out in the show in regards to Belos and the portal. It could take just days, weeks, months??? Years???? Before he’s taken down accordingly and a new portal is made.
Regardless, I like to think that in that time though, the moment the twins turn 18, they leave and they take Amity with them. They’re not just going to sit idly by anymore. Whether that means revoking their family name by some intensive ritual or just fleeing and using whatever money they took with them to find an apartment somewhere, they need to get out from under their parents’ thumb. As soon as they’ve established new lives for themselves, they are as open with their relationships as they want. They might even be a little over-eager, what with Amity kissing her girlfriends for probably too long at school in front of everyone, or Emira actively distracting Viney from her work while on the clock.
By the time we get to the point where they’re trying to re-enter their children’s lives, it’s stiff and awkward at best and like bulls butting heads at worst. The Blights are using any method they can to bring their children back home, whether it’s promises of extra freedom or putting in a good word to their coven of choice; even sending them extravagant gifts that none of them want. This maybe goes on for about a year before the twins and Amity agree to meet with their former parents. They bring their respective partners with them too; not as back up or anything, but mostly as moral support and as a giant middle finger to their parents.
Alador and Odalia don’t hold back their disdain. For their children’s’ foolishness, for their childish behavior thats ruffled so many feathers within the Emperor’s coven, for the damage they’ve all done to the Blight name; and for their daughters’ choices in partners.
They could take all of the other nonsense their parents were spouting, but being so outwardly hostile to their respective partners??? That causes Emira to nearly turn the entire Blight Manor upside down and Amity to summon an abomination large enough to chuck the manor into the Boiling Sea with her parents inside. Edric manages (somehow) to keep them both sane long enough to continue their conversation, at which point I think the Blights simply write off their girls’ anger as petty childishness.
And that. Is what sets off Luz, Willow and Viney. They absolutely go off on the Blights and just tear them both a new one. I think it’s been a long time since the Blights actually feared anyone besides the Emperor, but in that meeting, they feared these teenagers who seemed to radiate more power than they’d ever been witness to before. I think Emira and Amity are both shocked but Edric just gets comfortable and summons some popcorn to watch the show because finally, someone is telling off these miserable witches they used to call their parents.
They don’t meet with their parents again for a few more years after that encounter. I think Emira and Viney maybe break up once for a week before getting back together due to a misunderstanding, but Amity couldn’t possibly be happier with her life as it goes on, free from her parents and being able to be with her girls as she wants.
Over the course of the following years, they all still receive correspondence from their parents. On every birthday, they send a sum of money and a simple greeting. Every holiday season is the exact same. I think Luz is the only one to actually reach out to Alador and Odalia. I think she sends them a photo of their most recent holiday get together; where everyone is smiling or laughing or making messes or whatever. The exact opposite of every holiday held at the Blight Manor. They see each of their children, smiling and looking truly happy. And on the back, Luz maybe writes something about wanting to speak to them. Alone. Not with Amity or Willow, not with Emira or Viney, not with Edric, no one else. Just Luz and the Blights. They agree.
When Luz meets with them, it’s tense. They’re all quiet and stiff and still have an aura of hatred hanging between them. But Luz clears her throat and informs them that she’s planning on proposing to Amity and Willow. She’s still not sure when, or how, but it’s something she’s planning. She also informs them that if they don’t want to miss another wedding, they’d better clean their acts up and fast. And she just hands them a small scrapbook full of pictures of Emira and Viney’s wedding. They hadn’t even known it had happened. They weren’t informed, let alone invited, and Luz was granting them possibly the only chance they’ll ever have again at being in their children’s lives. Luz lets them know to reach out to her if they decide they want to be in their kids’ lives again and leaves them with the scrapbook.
When they do reach out, Luz shows up at Blight Manor with three others in tow: Eda and Lilith Clawthorne and Camila Noceda. They are three different kinds of pissed and the Blights have the good sense to just be good hosts and invite them in with little fanfare or argument. They all settle in with cups of tea and I think Lilith goes first; she tells them about how she’s had the opportunity to watch Amity grow up, even more so after she abandoned the Emperor’s coven. Over time she still acted as something of a mentor, but also as a parental figure when she or the twins needed her to be. She was honored to officiate Emira and Viney’s wedding. She’s grateful to be part of their lives because she’s been a witness to their incredible achievements. She really digs the knife in deeper when she tells them that Emira and Viney are considering having kids but Emira’s been especially hesitant due to fears that she’ll somehow end up like her parents.
Eda goes next, not even having touched her tea, just sitting with her legs and arms crossed and glaring at them in the most severe way. She tells them about the various sleepovers she’s hosted over the years. How at least half of those sleepovers found Eda talking outside with at least one Blight child if not all of them in the middle of the night.
She tells them she got herself a scroll for the first time ever because she knew those kids needed an adult figure that wouldn’t reprimand them for existing. They needed an adult figure to go to for comfort and guidance, someone that could reassure them that their best is more than enough. They don’t need to work themselves into the ground for a scrap of approval or force themselves into the rigid mold their parents made for them.
She tells them she’s seen more tears from the Blight kids than she’s ever seen from any other kind of creature. Not even Luz cried as often as they did, and she’s a giant softy (Luz lets out an indignant “hey!” At that and pouts). She tells them that she, Edalyn Clawthorne, the Boiling Isles Most Wanted, has provided more warmth and comfort for their kids in the time she’s known them than they [the Blight Parents] had in their lives.
Eda hasn’t had magic for years. But everyone knew how powerful she once was. They had all gone to school together too, of course they remember her and the trouble she caused. She lets them know that if she even had an ounce of the magic she once had, she would use it to decimate the Blight parents in every way possible for causing so much harm to three bright, talented, loving children that have grown into some of the most powerful witches the Boiling Isles has to offer. She also lets them know that before they even consider being part of those kids’ lives again, they have a lot of shit to work on and sort out. Because if they don’t? It doesn’t matter whether or not Eda has magic. She will decimate them.
Finally Camila sets her empty tea cup down and levels them with the most venomous stare she can. She’s the only one of Luz’s guests that’s actually also a biological mother. If she could, she’d probably go Super Saiyan with the sheer power she’s exuding with this stare. The Blights actually flinch which causes Lilith to have to hide a chuckle (she’s been on the receiving end of that rage before and she’s excited to see it unleashed on them).
She just starts tearing into them like her life depends on it. She doesn’t hold back in the slightest. She admonishes them for holding their social status at a higher priority than the safety and happiness of their own children. Her criticisms and curses are all laid out with razor precision. The longer she goes on, the more the Blights shrink in on themselves. Alador definitely starts crying at one point but refuses to wipe his tears away because he knows there’ll just be more anyway. The Clawthornes are shocked at seeing him cry, throughout their time at Hexside and while Lilith worked with the Blights in the Emperor’s coven, they’d never seen Alador express an emotion beyond irritation. Odalia also has tears in her eyes but she refuses to let them fall. Her face is bright red in shame though, it just grows steadily more red as Camila goes on. (Luz idly notes that that must be where Amity and the twins get their blushing genes from. She also notes that Odalia looks remarkably like Amity and wonders if that’s what Amity will look like when they’re that age. Her heart flutters a little at the concept of being with Amity for the rest of their lives, but she tampers down the runaway thoughts to refocus on her mom’s tirade).
By the time Camila’s done with them, Alador and Odalia are hiding their faces in shame. Alador’s trying to stifle his crying to the best of his ability cuz his breaths are turning ragged from how much emotion he’s experiencing. Odalia is desperately trying to wipe her tears away without ruining her makeup, but she’s also quietly sniffling and hiccuping. Camila sits back with a satisfied huff and Luz pats her shoulder (as a thank you? As a good job? As a ‘tag me in it’s my turn’? Who can say).
After letting the Blights collect themselves, Luz clears her throat to get their attention. She struggles for a moment to figure out the best way to say it, but ends up setting her jaw firmly and just blurting it out: she asks for their blessing for her to marry Amity.
After a moment of shocked silence, Luz’s courage starts to crumble a little and she begins to explain herself; she knows that Amity doesn’t value their opinion. She hasn’t for years now. Luz also doesn’t value their opinion. But if she’s going to such lengths to try and give one of the loves of her life her parents back? She may as well start off with a show of respect.
Odalia is the one that gets up from where she’s sitting and quietly approaches Luz. Eda and Lilith are about ready to throw hands if need be and Camilia starts to put her arm in front of Luz, but Luz stands up to meet her. Odalia gently takes Luz’s hands (she also notes that her hands are just as tiny and soft as Amity’s) and brings both of their hands up to about chest level. She has to clear her voice before she speaks; her throat became tight with the tears and hiccuping she was trying to hold back.
Odalia takes one hand to draw a large circle around their joined hands before clasping Luz’s hands again. She tells Luz that she absolutely has their blessing, and vows to do whatever she needs to to atone for the cruelty she put her children through. And so the Everlasting Oath is sealed.
Alador also stands up and does the same in a tear-strained voice. After his oath has been sealed, he places his hands on Luz’s shoulders and thanks her for being so damn stubborn.
They promise that they’ll be in touch with Luz again soon, but they need to talk to one another first and really sort everything out. Luz gives them a small smile and confirms that she’ll be waiting to hear from them as the Clawthornes/Nocedas stand up to leave. Before they leave, Odalia gently places a hand on Camila’s shoulder and asks her quietly if she could maybe come to her for advice on how to approach their children when they’ve figured themselves out. Camila stares at her for a moment before giving her a smile and nodding. She doesn’t have a scroll or anything, so she tells her to just reach out to Luz when they’re ready to talk. Odalia just nods and the Blights watch as their guests leave.
I think it particularly strikes Alador how casually Eda ruffles Luz’s hair and pulls her in for a side hug, loudly telling her how proud she is of her for pulling such a bold move. It dawns on him that he used to do that to Edric when he was still smaller than his own knee. It may have been after the first spell Edric ever successfully cast. Odalia sees Camila scoop Luz into her arms and plant a giant kiss to a her head, probably also praising Luz. They watch as Luz puts her arms around Eda and Camila’s shoulders as they leave the Blight estate and Alador closes the door before he starts crying again.
I think that’s the first time in years the Alador and Odalia really hug each other properly. Not to pose for a picture, not just a quick greeting as they pass each other in the halls of the Emperor’s coven, but like. For comfort. I don’t think they really realized how big and cold and empty their manor is until that moment.
I think it takes several months for them to get their acts together. They seek out a family counselor, they have weekly tea with Camila, they dust off the parenting books that have been untouched on the shelves in their library for decades. They look into Viney’s family and find out that she and Emira have started their own service beast program. The general air of grief and undertone of determination is interrupted by a moment of sheer pride at knowing their eldest daughter not only found someone she loves, but has taken the risk of starting her own business with her wife that’s a genuine service to the Boiling Isles. They make a few duplicates of the newspaper article they found announcing the grand opening of the first Service Beast Training Center and Shelter on the Boiling Isles and have it framed in different places; there’s one on the desk in their study, there’s another on their wall in their bedroom; they each have their own copy at their desks at work.
No joke, it’s taken Luz months to convince Emira and Viney that Em’s parents are trying to change. Emira has absolutely 0 faith in her parents being able to turn over a new leaf. It’s not until they hear Camila say that she’s surprised at the Blight’s improvement after their last tea meeting that they even consider that they actually are trying to change.
Luz coordinates a day and time for them to all meet once Emira and Viney agree to do so. I think they meet at a park somewhere, maybe a particularly nice public garden (maybe it’s Willow’s). Emira’s never seen her parents look so nervous before and that already sparks some hope in her heart that all of Luz’s efforts might not be naught. I think Odalia tries to reach out to hug Emira but like, actually flinches when Emira steps back. So instead they sit at one of the secluded garden tables and just talk.
Alador and Odalia apologize in as much depth as they can. Emira just sits and lets them say everything they want to say. Once they’re done with everything they can think of, they just sit in silence for a minute while Emira processes everything they’ve said. It’s not until Viney squeezes her hand that Emira finally starts crying. She wants to be angry, she is angry, but her entire heart feels like a full-grown griffon just stood up from where it was sitting and flew away. Her heart feels so much lighter. She stands up and moves to her parents and they stand and embrace her tightly for a while. Viney also feels like a huge weight has been lifted just watching the exchange. Maybe she also cries a little bit because she’s so happy to see her wife so happy. (And she maybe ignores the sound of a high five happening in the distance; she’s like, 90% sure Luz is there with someone else spying on them to make sure the meeting goes well).
All the Blights have full-on waterworks going on because they each individually realize this is the first time they’ve expressed their love for each other in probably more than a decade. Long before Emira and Edric took Amity and left. Viney maybe also hears a muffled sniffle and when she turns around to see, yup, there’s Luz, and she’s definitely crying into Willow’s shoulder. Viney rolls her eyes. Luz is such a sap. That’s probably why they all love her so much. She brings out the sap in all of them too.
After the Blights finally calm down, Alador and Odalia have an entire separate list of things to apologize to Viney for, which takes her off guard. She maybe expected an apology for the last time she saw them in person, but they went waaaay deeper than just that. And then they don’t stop at the apologies? They start thanking her for all sorts of stuff. Like loving Emira and being there for her when they weren’t. For helping her grow into the incredible person she’s become. They also congratulate them on their Service Beast Shelter and ask if maybe eventually they’d be allowed to visit and see them in their element. That’s when Viney’s face finally splits into a wide grin and she joins the big family hug they’ve got going on.
Lmao so yeah, long story short, it takes them a long-ass time, but eventually the Blights learn to love Viney 💖💖💖

Moonlit Masquerade: Moonlit Forever After  Finale
Luz adjusted her tie for the fourth time in as many minutes. She is so. Fucking. Nervous.
They’re due to start in a matter of ten minutes and she’d taken her place beneath the tree with Lilith, who is looking over a small paper with notes on it when she glanced up at Luz’s constant fidgeting.
“Are you alright, Luz?” she questioned her quietly.
“I don’t know... I’m just… really nervous,” she said, playing with her fingers.
“That’s understandable,” The eldest Clawthorne nodded. “It is a big change, even if you two have already been living together for three years now, but there’s no reason to be nervous, Amity would be pleased if you showed up in your pajamas,” Lilith chuckled to herself but Luz still looks like she wanted to throw up.
Lilith hummed thoughtfully, the girl needed a distraction before she blew her lunch onto the floor, and considering who she’s marrying, Lilith decides to share something with Luz that even Eda doesn’t know.
“Luz, did you know I was in love once,” she finally said and Luz whipped to look at her, eyes blown wide.
“What, you!?” She blinked and Lilith huffed a laugh under her breath, cocking a brow at her. “I mean, you’re great and all!… I just never expected that… but, oh wow… backstory; tell me!” she grinned and Lilith rolled her eyes.
“Yes, before I joined the emperor’s coven, there was a boy, but… after I was accepted, I was so consumed with guilt about what I did to Edalyn I threw everything I had into rising in the coven’s ranks so I could find her cure that I inevitably ended up letting that relationship wither on the vine and he moved onto someone else.” she frowned, eyes distant. “Just one of the many things I regret.”
“Oh, wow. I’m sorry, Lily.” Luz frowned.
“It was my own fault, everything that has plagued my life has been a mess of my own creation. I regret many things, but nothing will change them now, I simply must live with them.” Lilith gave a small shrug. “That’s one thing I can never make up for now.”
“Anyone I know?” she asked and then watched, fascinated as Lilith’s face flushed a little.
“Yes, actually… you’re rather familiar with this man.” she glanced away and now Luz was intrigued.
“Who?”
“Your soon to be father-in-law.”
Luz choked on her own spit at that.
“Alador Blight!?” she cried and the guests look at her curiously before going back to talking amongst themselves. Lilith is red-faced. “You used to date Alador?” Luz doesn’t know what else to say to that.
“Yes,” Lilith nodded and Luz suddenly remembered something.
“Is that who you went to the fall shower with way back when?” She knows she hit it square on the head when Lilith darkened further.
“I can’t believe you remembered that,” The older witch mumbled and Luz chuckled. She and Amity had gone to watch the fall shower again just two weeks ago and this triggered the memory.
“Wow… plot twist, I never saw that coming…”
Lilith just hummed. Luz pressed a hand to her chin, thinking.
“He really took a downgrade didn’t he…?” she asked thoughtfully, which made Lilith blink before laughing.
“I won’t speak ill of Odalia, despite my less than pleasant feelings about her, though, that has much more to do with Amity than Alador.”
“I will, she’s a bitch,” Luz scowled and Lilith snorted.
Luz suddenly has so many questions, was that why Lilith had taken Amity on as her pupil as a kid? Or was it just because Amity was powerful and had nothing to do with any previous romantic feelings for her dad?
She doesn’t have time to ask them though, it seems Lilith’s ploy to distract her worked because Willow is peeking out from behind the curtain and giving them a thumbs up. The moon is overhead now; it’s time.
“Ready?” Lilith smiled.
“No!” Luz hissed, and her palms are starting to sweat. She is so not ready by any stretch of the imagination!
A lilting piano starts to play, It’s nothing like the classic wedding march she is familiar with, but it’s pretty, though the soothing melody does absolutely nothing for her jangling nerves. She glanced at her moms in the front row behind her and Camila smiled while Eda gave her a fanged grin and a thumbs up and mouthed ‘You got this’. She wiped her sweaty hands on her pants, hopefully, that won’t stain...
She straightened and took a deep breath, ready or not, here she went.
The curtains pulled aside and Gus and Willow appeared, linked arm in arm, they smiled brightly as they made their way down the aisle, followed a few moments later by Viney and Emira, and in the back of her mind, Luz knows that it’s their wedding she’ll be attending next. Viney had already confided in her three months ago that she’d bought a ring, but she wanted to wait a little while after their wedding to propose, the last thing she wanted to do was upstage the two of them, which Luz appreciated.
She snorted, nerves abated a bit when Edric and King came walking down the aisle, King was adorable in his little blue vest.
“Are you ready?” Gus whispered in her ear as he came to stand at her side.
She made a distressed sound in the back of her throat and across from her, Willow smiled as he quickly patted her shoulder.
The music changed and the guests turned to look while Luz swallowed thickly. Then Amity appeared, arm wrapped through Alador’s.
Luz sucked in a sharp breath, stunned speechless.
She doesn’t think anyone in any realm has ever looked as beautiful as Amity does right now, and no one ever could. Her mouth is bone dry, but her mother was right, she’s not nervous anymore, her entire body is tingling as her gaze locked with Amity’s, whose smiling that little smile Luz knew so well.
Her mother was right about the dress too.
The whole situation smacked her like a raging slitherbeast and she’s trying to blink away the tears gathering in the corners of her eyes. How did she get this lucky? She has no concrete answer but is happy she did all the same.
Amity doesn’t know how she keeps moving down the aisle, because once her eyes land on Luz they feel like jelly. Her brother hadn’t been kidding and she should have been more prepared, though she doesn’t think she could have ever been prepared for this.
Luz has always cut a sharp, immaculate profile when she actually gave an effort, but their’s something almost ethereal about her as she is now, the white of her suit almost glows beneath the soft light of the blue moon and the light spells that float in the air around them. Her heart is beating hard against her ribs, but it’s not nerves that make it skip a beat. It’s the staggering wave of amazement and affection she feels for Luz, who she can tell now that she’s close enough to see, is doing her damnedest to hold back her tears. She recognized that scrunched up, rapidly blinking expression anywhere. It makes her own eyes sting.
Finally, she’s standing close enough to touch and her father smiled at her as Luz held out her hand and Amity gently pulled her arm from his to slip her hand into Luz’s. Alador nodded to Luz before slipping himself into his seat in the front row across from Camila and Eda.
“Hey.” Luz’s voice is barely a whisper that only Amity can hear.
“Hey, yourself.” she smiled back, voice just as low.
They don’t even hear Lilith as she began to speak to the crowd about why they’re all here and all the ceremonial spiel that is the norm at a wedding on the Boiling Isles.
Amity’s hand is warm in hers and Luz squeezed it gently, running her thumb over her knuckles. She’s still in awe, unable to take her eyes off Amity and how beautiful she is in that dress, under the blue moon’s light
She’s absolutely bewitching and Luz would gladly live under her spell for the rest of her life.
Amity is just as spellbound as Luz, watching the pink glow that the light spells are refracting from the grom tree bounce off Luz’s dark eyes, making them look alive as a gentle breeze rustles the tree’s blush-colored leaves. The shadows cast by the lights cut sharp lines across her jaw and neck that make Amity want to reach out and run her fingertips along them.
“....and they will now speak these promises to each other,” Lilith read loudly, jerking the two of them out of their love induced haze. How long had they been zoned out, staring at each other? Judging from the subtle smirk on Lilith’s face, a while.
“Amity, you may now say your vows,” Lilith said and she nodded, letting go of Luz’s right hand and pulling a small slip of paper from her pocket taking a deep breath, she could feel everyone’s eyes on her, but the only important ones were staring straight at her, smiling, no pressure in those warm brown eyes she adored.
"I've been advised to keep this short," she smiled and she swears she hears Emira snort behind her. "So here it is. Luz, I never thought I could be as incredibly happy as I am when I’m with you, that such a thing was even possible, but here we are, and I can hardly believe it’s real sometimes. Till I met you, I was playing at being someone I didn’t even want to be but was too scared to stop and be myself, but having you at my side made me brave enough to face that fear, made it feel like I could and should be myself.” Her thumb rubbed across Luz’s knuckles and Luz squeezed back, smiling encouragingly at her. “Even now,” she whispered so only Luz could hear her, and that bright grin she adored flashed at her. “I know that who I am now is thanks to you in many ways, you always make me want to try harder, to be better. It hasn’t always been easy, life has thrown a lot at us over the years, but with you, I know that I can make it through. No matter how hard it gets, I’ll never stop trying, because I can’t think of anything that could ever be more worth the effort than being with you for the rest of my life,” she finished, slipping the paper back into her pocket and taking up Luz’s other hand again. She can hear her sister and Willow sniffling behind her, while Viney did her best to hold it in. Gus is already crying and making whimpering noises while Edric bit his lip, doing his best to keep it together. King is biting his tongue to hold back his cries.
In the front row, Camila is quietly sniffling into a tissue and Eda crosses her arms, definitely blinking her eyes against the tears trying to well up in her mismatched eyes while Alador is filled with a deep appreciation for his future daughter-in-law, even as a bitter sorrow wells up in his chest because he knows just why Amity was afraid of being herself.
Luz knows that there are tears sliding down her cheeks, but she can’t stop it. It should be illegal for Amity to look at her like that and say those things that make her face flush and feel like a hot pile of goo, even as they simultaneously cradle her heart in a blanket of warmth.
Lilith is doing about the same as the rest of the wedding party it seems, and clears her throat, pulling herself together before turning to Luz.
“Luz, you may now say your vows,” she said.
“Don’t mess this up, Kid,” Eda murmured quietly to herself and Camila can only nod in agreement. Gus and Edric hoping for the same thing, especially after Amity’s had been so perfect.
Luz squeezed both of Amity’s hands and cleared her throat, willing away the lump lodged there.
"I'll be honest with you, with everything that’s been going on, I totally, completely forgot to write my vows," she admits sheepishly, and there's a murmur from the guests, but Amity only rolled her eyes, smirking, which makes Luz relax at the response, and behind her, Viney hissed a quiet 'Ha' to Emira, but she can examine that later. "But I don't need to, I can think of reasons why I love you in my sleep." She grinned right back at Amity, whose hands squeezed hers as she smiled down at her softly and Luz’s stomach bubbled up with so much love and affection that it made her tingle all over. "I never could have imagined when I stumbled through a portal chasing an owl that stole my book that I would end up standing here, with you, but I’m beyond glad that Owlbert is a tiny trash thief, and I did.” she grinned. Eda chuckled to herself. “Amity, I've never known anyone as incredibly kind and amazing as you, and I consider myself to be the luckiest person on The Boiling Isles for getting to have met you, and now because I get to spend the rest of my life with you. Without you watching my back for the last six years I probably would have drowned or set myself on fire by now.” She admitted, and there's an agreeing chuckle from the guests and their friends standing next to them. Amity just grinned wetly and knowingly at her, there have been a few incidents over the years that even their closest friends aren't privy to, disaster averted only because Amity is always at her side.
“But I know I can always count on you to be there for me, and I promise that no matter what, I’ll always be there for you too, because there is no one, in any realm that I could ever love more than you, Amity, and I want to spend every minute from here till the end; proving it to you.” Her voice is low by the end and even if Amity hadn’t been teary before, she was now and she’s going to ruin her makeup if she can’t pull herself together! The wedding party isn’t doing much better, barely holding it together themselves. Gus is looking at them starry-eyed, lip trembling and Edric is right there with him. Willow is sniffled quietly into her flowers while Emira rapidly blinked away her tears, Viney much the same.
Eda held Camila as she wept into her shoulder, biting her lips to hold back her own flood of tears.
Alador clenched his hands into the fabric of his dress pants, jaw tight.
“The rings?” Lilith’s voice is thick, but level, with herculean effort, as she looked down at King, who is sniffling and whimpering, on the verge of sobs as he steps forward and holds up the pillow with their rings sitting on it. Luz and Amity picked up the other’s ring.
Lilith held up a glyph and a glowing blue ring appeared and they broke contact just long enough for Luz to slip Amity’s ring on her finger and for Amity to do the same before they reached through the ring and clasped hands again, fingers laced together,
“Do you, Amity Blight, swear on an eternal oath to love, protect and be ever devoted to Luz Noceda for as long as you both live?
“I swear,” Amity said, voice quivering as she squeezed Luz’s fingers laced between hers.
“Do you, Luz Noceda, swear on an eternal oath to love, protect and be ever devoted to Amity Blight for as long as you both live.
“I swear.” Luz smiled even as her eyes shined with still falling tears.
“The oath is sealed,” Their hands glowed before the ring faded away. “you may now…”
They didn’t need to wait for Lilith to tell them.
Amity flung her arms around Luz’s neck as Luz grabbed her around the waist sealing the oath with a kiss as the guests erupted into loud, raucous cheers and laughter. It’s a much longer kiss than it needs to be, but no one is going to stop them.
They finally pulled back, grinning stupidly at each other before Luz pulled back just enough to bend down and sweep an arm beneath Amity’s knees.
She squealed as Luz scooped her up into her arms and took off running down the aisle to whoops and cheers as they passed.
“Luz!” Amity laughed, clinging to her neck as she ran into the woods, both of their laughter echoing off the trees as the blue glow of the moon lit their way.
“To the party!” Eda declared with a grin over the crowd, standing and pointing in the direction of Hexside.
The wedding party cheered as they took off running after the newlyweds, followed by the guests.
The courtyard of the school was filled with tables of people walking about and chatting as the wedding party all walked toward the school to take photos.
Luz couldn’t stop grinning, nor Amity, as they stood inside, waiting for their friends to catch up after Luz had finally set her back on her feet, still clutching each other tightly, foreheads pressed together. They couldn’t wipe away their bright grins even if they wanted to.
Amity’s eyes roved over her face as she wiped at any remaining tears on Luz’s cheeks.
“Eres tan hermosa,” Amity mumbled making Luz’s face darken even as she grinned.
“I should be saying that to you!” Luz pulled back till they were linked only by their hands and openly stared at her wife in awe. “You look… I don’t know any words in any language to do you justice, mi amor.” Luz smiled, squeezing her hands.
Amity squeezed back before pulling her back in close and captured her lips in another kiss.
"Titan, I love you so much," she mumbled against her lips, a few tears had managed to slip past against her will.
"Just as much as I love you," Luz smiled at her reaching up to wipe them away before they can do much damage to Amity's makeup. Her chest feels fit to burst with the rampant affection she feels, especially as Amity leaned into the touch on her cheek
As she stared back at Luz, she's struck hard by the sudden urge to just take her by the hand and drag her away, somewhere they can just be alone, screw the after-party. Willow would kill her, not to mention the rest of their friends and both of Luz's mothers’. Her siblings and Viney would just be amused as all get out.
"Do you think people would notice if we left?" she asked anyway, looking down at her.
Luz blinked at her, eyes blown wide and mouth hanging open before she couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Yes, Amity, I think it's safe to say they would definitely notice." The tone isn't even playing at scolding and Luz is smiling at her, eyes dancing with unspoken mirth and warm, overwhelming affection. That only makes the urge to take her and run that much stronger.
"We could still go…"
Luz is grinning so widely at her it almost looks like it hurts. She just cupped Amity's cheeks in her hands and pressed another long kiss to her mouth. Amity lets her eyes droop closed, and clings to Luz.
Her wife.
She hummed against Luz, threading her fingers gently through her hair. She smells wonderful, not her normal warm, woodsy smell, but some kind of perfume.
Luz finally released her but is still grinning, thumbs running gently over her cheeks.
"We can't leave, Amor," she said and Amity huffed quietly, making her chuckle. "Soon enough, it'll just be you and me," she promised, and Amity hummed in agreement, kissing her again.
"What, are you making out in here already?" Edric's laughing voice broke them out of their own world as their friends finally arrived.
“Not yet.” Luz grinned cheekily at him and Amity slapped her shoulder. Nothing was going to ruin her mood tonight, absolutely nothing!
The rest of the wedding party piled into the building along with the photographer. A tall, bug-eyed demon with long curving horns and a large camera stood in front of them.
“Say, ‘scream’!”
They crowded together and took photos. Eda, Camila, and Lilith joining them for several, including a few shots of Luz with each of her moms and both of them together, before dragging Lilith and King into the photo with her and Amity, the whole Owl House one last time. Minus Hooty, who was bitterly disappointed that he couldn’t come, but hey; house.
Luz glanced around as Amity took photos with the bridesmaids and her siblings and noticed someone missing from the photo party. She grabbed Gus and whispered in his ear. He grinned at her and nodded before quietly shooting out of the building as the photos carried on. He entered again a few minutes later with a bright grin and another witch.
“I think that’s all the photos…” Amity looked at them and let the rest of the wedding party finally move back out into the courtyard to wait for them.
“Not yet!” Luz piped up as she moved toward her, Alador, trailing behind her. “We gotta get a couple with you and your dad!” She grinned at her and Amity blinked, surprised. Alador himself didn’t look so sure but she smiled and nodded.
“Of course we do.”
Her father seemed to perk and Luz stepped out of the way to allow the older auburn-haired witch to stand at her wife’s side.
Luz cocked her head as she watched the two smile. It was the first time she’d ever seen the two together since they were teenagers when Amity still had mint green hair, now as they stood side by side, both with that shiny, red/brown, auburn hair and the same bright, golden eyes and tall stature, Luz couldn’t help but smile. It was obvious where Amity got all her genes from; thank goodness it wasn’t Odalia.
The photographer snapped a few photos before Amity turned to look at her.
“Get over here,” she called and Luz blinked, pointing to herself. “Yes, you,” Amity laughed to herself as Luz trotted over and Amity wrapped an arm around her waist and Alador laid a hand on both of their shoulders. She could feel the soft squeezing of his hand, it wasn’t threatening, or a warning, but thankful, and Luz grinned all the brighter as the photos were snapped. Alador smiled at them and moved away, walking out the doors with the photographer and leaving them alone.
“I don’t know what I’d do without you…,” Amity can’t help but mumble once they’re alone, looking at her from beneath her dark lashes.
“Probably worry a lot less.” Luz shrugged, making her chuckle.
“Maybe,” she agreed. “Things would certainly be duller though,” she smirked and Luz grinned right back. “I saw your free falling stunt today, Eda sent a video.”
“That traitor!” Luz hissed, making Amity snort. “I was completely in control, I swear!”
“Hey, hey, relax, I know. I know that you can take care of yourself,” she assured gently and Luz relaxed. “I’m still going to worry about you though, that’s my job.”
“Worrying about each other is both our jobs,” she refuted, and then they heard Gus on the mic outside.
“Ladies, gentlemen, demons, and others, thank you for coming tonight!” Cheers and applause answered him.
“Oh, that’s our cue! Are you ready, mi amor?” Luz smiled, holding out her arm, which Amity looped her own through, smiling back.
“Always.”
“Please welcome, for the first time, Mrs. and Mrs. Luz and Amity Noceda!” Gus called and they walked out of the school’s double doors to the whoops and cheers of their friends and family. They smiled and waved as they walked down the stairs to take their seats next to their friends at the head table as dinner was served.
Dinner was just as dinner at the owl house, loud, cheery, and fun. Even at the more serious tables, like where the coven heads were seated, were still far from quiet. Though there were fewer fights over, or with food then there usually was at the owl house, mostly because Camila sat between the two Clawthorne sisters at the table near theirs.
Edric was eyeing the beautiful, three-tiered cake with the smooth white icing and purple and pink accents with drool dripping down the corner of his mouth while Emira reluctantly paid a smirking Viney.
“I can’t believe you didn’t write any vows and your wife wrote a book!” Emira scowled at Luz.
“It’s been really busy! I forgot!” Luz defended, gesturing with her fork. Amity giggled and laid a hand over Luz’s on the table.
“It’s alright, Luz, I thought they were perfect.” She smiled at her and Luz grinned before her face turned thoughtful.
“Knowing you, you must have actually written a book too…,” she hummed and Amity flushed.
Willow grinned and twirled a finger and a stack of bound papers fell from the spell circle, which she handed to Luz, despite Amity’s protests.
“No, give me that!” she grabbed for it but Luz held it just beyond her reach as she flipped through it.
“Ay dios mio! You weren’t kidding… now I feel bad!” she turned, frowning, to Amity, who took the opportunity to pluck the pages from Luz’s hand.
“Don’t, I didn’t use them anyway, querida.” She spelled the pages away.
“But you spent all that time writing them…” Luz’s brows furrowed.
“It’s fine, Luz,” Amity assured her but Luz wasn’t having it.
“I’m going to write something just as good for you later,” she promised and Amity can’t help but smile at her.
“Alright.” she nodded, she knows that once luz has made up her mind it takes a miracle to change it.
When dinner is all but done Gus has taken up the mic again.
“Will the happy couple please come to the dance floor for their first dance?”
Luz perks up at that and stands, offering her hand to Amity.
“Shall we, Mrs. Noceda?” She smiled at her and Amity slipped her hand in hers.
“Please, Mrs. Noceda.” She smiled back and let Luz lead her onto the dance floor. Their friends can only roll their eyes at the two, even as they smile.
The Moon is hovering directly overhead now and everything glows with its sapphire light as they stand hand in hand in the middle of the floor. The song that begins to play is one they have danced to many times, but the first time was under very similar circumstances in Blight manor under the same blue light.
Everyone’s eyes are on them, but they only have eyes for each other, as has always been the case.
The move in slow, graceful steps. Fighting or dancing the two have always been in perfect sync and they don’t even need to think about their movements, they don’t need to speak either, they simply enjoy this quiet moment, even if they are in the spotlight.
When the lilting slow song finally ends, much too soon for either, Luz grins at her. They still have something planned that only Gus and the DJ are aware of.
“Are you ready?” Luz is vibrating with energy.
“We haven’t been practicing this for three months for me not to be ready.” Amity grinned back as Luz stepped back and pulled off her jacket, tossing it to Gus who looks much too excited. Amity spun a finger and her dress glowed as the hem shrank up to her knees, freeing her legs.
“What are they doing?” Lilith cocked her head.
“Dunno, but knowing them, it’s gonna be good, whatever it is,” Eda smirked.
Sitting in Luz’s breast pocket is a bright red flower, she pulled it out and clenched the stem between her teeth before she wrapped an arm around Amity’s waist and held one of her hands in hers, arms stretched straight out as Amity set her other on Luz’s shoulder even as she’s laughing quietly to herself at Luz.
“You’re ridiculous,” she mumbled, grinning. Luz just wagged her eyebrows in response, making Amity giggle all the harder. She’s too happy to care one bit about Luz’s added ‘personal touch’ to what they’re about to do.
“Do you have any idea what’s going on, what’s with the flower?” Emira looked at Willow who shook her head, just as confused as the rest of them.
“Amity didn’t say anything to me, looks like Gus is in on it though.”
The two are standing, pressed so closely together that no light can be seen between them.
Luz glanced at Gus and nodded. The nineteen-year-old signaled the DJ and then music again filled the night air.
The assembled witches looked around at the brand new sounds.
Camila blinked at the familiar music that is starting to grow louder and faster
“Tango?” she questioned too herself.
Then the two take off to the quick rhythm of the accordion and drums, spinning across the dance floor in sharp, controlled measure, hardly ever far from the other and taking such fast steps around the other that it’s amazing they don’t trip on each other.
Luz twirled them around, both grinning as they follow the whine of a violin across the dancefloor, the fast clicking of their shoes on the hardwood adding an extra beat to the music.
Gripping her hand, Luz flung amity away in a tight spin, making her dress billow up around her knees as their laced fingers pulled her to a stop, arms outstretched. Whistles and shouts erupted from the guests and Luz tugged her back into her arms. Their hands adjust and then Amity is the one leading them across the floor in tight spins and quicker steps.
“Wow…,” Viney mumbled as she watched the two. Especially when they flip around again and Luz takes back the lead, jerking them to a sudden stop, Amity’s knee wrapped around her hip, and Luz’s hand pressed to the small of her back, they can feel each other breathe they’re so close.
“This feels wrong to watch…” Edric covered his face with a hand but is peeking between his fingers. There is certainly a charged feeling in the air between the two as Luz spun them around, still attached at the hips.
“But they’re so good…,” Willow said in awe, hands pressed to her face.
“Holy shit…” Eda is watching the dance, slack-jawed, Lilith can only nod, eyes wide.
The song builds to a crescendo in a pounding of drums and the rapid squeal of the violin as they finally separated in another spin before Luz pulled her back in, twisting around the moment Amity is back in her arms and dropped her in a sharp dip to the songs final beats.
It’s quiet as they looked at each other, breathing heavy and smiling so hard it hurt. Luz’s smile turned to a grin and she wagged her eyebrows at her again, teeth clenched around the rose she had made a special trip to the human realm for, Amity giggled as they stood up straight and the guest all cheered and clapped at the display.
Luz pulled the flower from her mouth and they both gave dramatic bows.
Regular music starts to play again and other couples move onto the floor.
“What. Was. That?” Emira asked the moment they returned to the table.
“It’s called Tango,” Luz laughed. “It’s a type of dance from the human world, we’ve been practicing,” she said proudly.
“That was amazing, you two,” Willow praised.
“A little risque…,” Edric laughed.
“Well, it is colloquially known in the human world sometimes as ‘sex on hardwood’.” Camila and the Clawthorne sisters chose that moment to approach the head table. Amity flushed at that, Luz had not told her that, and the sheepish grin she’s wearing told her that she had absolutely known it too.
“Can see why,” Viney snorted.
“Either way, that was pretty fancy,” Eda smirked at them.
“It was remarkable,” Lilith added.
“Thank you.” Amity nods, smiling.
They let several more songs play while they rest before they decided to finally cut the cake at Edric’s pleading.
As they do, Amity suddenly remembered a conversation she had with Camila about human wedding traditions.
“Your mother told me about another human wedding tradition last week involving the cake,” she started, cake in hand, and watched Luz from the corner of her eye as she hummed happily to herself.
“Oh, yea, which one?” she turned to look at her and Amity smashed a handful of cake in her face as she did.
It’s quiet for a moment, one visible brown eye blinked at her, face smeared with cake before a grin broke out across her face, and she shoved her fist into her own cake.
“That’s how you want it, huh, mi amor?”
Amity squealed as icing is smeared across her face in return to the sound of Luz’s laughing and then she’s laughing too.
“Food fight!” Eda jumped up, plate in hand.
“Yeah!” King jumped up as well but Camila and Lilith grabbed them both.
“NO, just them!” Camila shouted.
“Well, that’s no fun,” Eda grumbled, pouting.
Amity laughed as she watched Luz’s tongue dart out of her mouth to lick the frosting off her lip.
“Tasty” she grinned.
They let the caterers pass out the cake while they go and clean their faces off inside. They’re gone a little longer than they should be and Viney and Edric take bets on if they even come back at all or are just making out
“Oh, you know what I found out tonight?” Luz asked Amity as she wiped the frosting off her face in Hexside’s bathroom.
“Hmm?” she hummed and leaned in close to the mirror and trying to save as much of her makeup as she can while wiping the cake away.
“Your dad and Lilith used to date,” she said it so casually.
‘What!?” Amity whipped to her.
“Yeah! Crazy right? Guess they were together in school but after she joined the coven she felt so guilty about mom she spent all her time looking for a cure and they drifted apart.”
Amity has no idea how to process this information. She vaguely wonders what life would have been like if Lilith had been her mother.
“You okay, amor?”
She blinks and Luz is looking at her, brows creased with worry. There will be none of that, not tonight.
“Fine, it’s just such a bizarre thought.” She shrugged.
“Right?” Luz laughed.
Something for her to think about another time.
When they come back out, icing free they finally get to eat some of the cake.
“Lilith did an awesome job on this cake,” Luz mumbled around a mouthful of it. Amity just nodded an agreement, glad that Luz had always liked thornberry desserts as much as she did. “Hopefully it’ll taste half this good next year…,” Luz hummed and Amity blinked at her.
“Next year?” she questioned and Luz nodded.
“It’s a human wedding tradition,” she explained. “You save a piece of your cake and freeze it so you can have it on your first anniversary.”
“Then we need to do it now, my brother hasn’t walked away from the cake since we cut it.” Amity rolled her eyes and pointed her fork at Edric, who had stationed himself cake side for the last fifteen minutes.
“Uhh, yeah, probably, he called dibs on leftovers yesterday, so if we wait he’s gonna cart the whole thing outta here at the end of the night,” she snorted and Amity sighed, shaking her head. Her brothers only real loves; trouble and baked goods.
“I’ll get him, Emira said, rolling her eyes as she made a beeline for the cake and her gluttonous twin. Viney laughed at them.
“Are you sure you’re ready for that package deal?” Luz turned to the older witch who grinned at them and shrugged.
“He’s not bad.... and he’s definitely not going to be living with us…,” Viney deadpanned.
“You don’t think he’s going to end up at our house do you?” Luz looked at her and Amity stopped, fork halfway to her mouth.
“Absolutely not,” she said with finality. “I love my brother but no. He and dad will keep each other company in Blight manor.” Luz and Viney laughed at that.
“Hey, guys, it’s time for you to throw the bouquet,” Willow reminded.
“Oh, right,” Amity nodded and they stood from the table and quickly made their way to the empty dancefloor.
“Single Witches gather round!” Luz called. She and Amity grinned as a slew of their female guests tripped all over themselves as they hurried onto the dance floor. Luz caught sight of a certain witch standing in the back at the edge of the dancefloor and grinned wickedly before she leaned up to whisper in Amity’s ear. She snorted as gold eyes fell on the witch in question.
“Alright.” she nodded, still grinning.
Lilith watched the couple and their guests gather on the dancefloor, arms crossed over her chest. Perhaps it appeared as though she was being standoffish, standing alone in at the back of the festivities but if she had didn’t she and Eda would be brawling in the middle of the party, and as annoying as her sister could sometimes be, and deserving of a piece of cake to the face, she was not going to make a scene at Luz and Amity’s wedding. Camila seemed to have Edalyn in hand right now as the two sat at their table drinking hard appleblood and laughing.
She shook her head, smirking to herself at all the young women and a few men who had swarmed the floor as the two got ready to throw the bouquet.
“Good evening, Lilith.”
Lilith jerked, turning her head to find Alador Blight at her side.
“It’s been a while, Alador,” she greeted with a tilt of her head. He nodded, arms folded behind his back as his gaze turned to the couple.
“It was a beautiful ceremony,” he said, watching them. She nodded, humming an affirmative.
“I’m sure they’ll continue to be quite happy together, despite your wife’s attempts at the contrary.” She can’t help the little dig, she said that she wouldn’t speak ill of Odalia, that didn’t mean she was going to pretend to like her either, but Alador just hummed.
“Precisely why she is my ex-wife now,” he admitted, which makes Lilith look at him.
“Oh…” she’s not sure what to say to that. Alador nods as they observed the gaggle of witches gathered around the middle of the dancefloor.
“It’s just as well,” he continued unexpectedly. “I would hardly have called our marriage a happy one, even from the start.”
“I’m sorry,” is all the elder Clawthorne can think to say.
“No need, It was my own fault for choosing to turn a blind eye to her machinations from the start.” He ran a hand through his beard thoughtfully.
“You never struck me as the type ignore inconvenient truths, Alador.” she cocked a brow at him.
“I wasn’t, once. But I suppose after our… acquaintance, it was easier to ignore some… ‘inconvenient truths’ as you called them.”
Lilith stiffened at that, she never expected him to bring that up, not after over twenty-five years, nor the subtle implication about her being the cause of his relationship with Odalia.
Before she can even think of something to say in response the couple drew both of their eyes again.
“Here we go!” Luz grinned as she and Amity both held the bouquet in one hand and tossed it over their shoulders. The witches on the dance floor scrambled all over each other as it flew through the air, shooting way over their heads and across the dancefloor.
Lilith can barely raise her arms in time to catch the flowers as they fell into her hands.
She blinked down at them as the crowd whistled and clapped. Across the room, she can hear Edalyn laughing maniacally.
She looked up to find Luz and Amity grinning at her from across the room. She scowled when Luz had the audacity to wink at her.
‘Little shits’
Low chuckling at her side made her turn to Alador, who is laughing quietly.
“Well, I suppose that means you will be the one swearing an eternal oath next.” He smirked at her.
“That worked out better than I thought.” Luz laughed, watching Lilith scowl at them. Amity just shook her head and smiled exasperatedly at her wife.
A few hours later the party is winding down and they decide it’s the perfect time to make their getaway.
“Amity and I are gonna sneak out of here,” Luz told her mom’s. “Can you take Mami home later?” she turned to Eda who nodded.
“No worries, kid. I’ll make sure Cami gets home safe and sound, scouts honor.”
“Yeah… there’s no way you were ever any kind of scout,” she drawled and Amity crossed her arms, smirking.
“Do you want me to get her home or not?” Eda huffed, reaching out and ruffling her hair. Luz grumbled but let it happen. “I’ll see you two in a week.” The older women hugged them both before they pull away. “Try not to break any beds.” She smirked as the two walked away, and Luz groaned to herself. Camila just gave the witch a tired look.
They say quick goodbyes to their friends who hug them tightly and they promise to get together when they get back from their honeymoon.
Amity made a quick goodbye to her father and then they’re sneaking away from the party into the woods and Amity spelled her staff into existence and they are soon flying over the woods, the bright cobalt light from the moon lighting the way.
“Well, we’re not leaving for the coast until tomorrow morning, so now what, Mrs. Noceda?” Luz grinned as she set her chin on Amity’s shoulder.
“I could think of a few things.” Amity glanced at her over her shoulder knowingly, gold eyes glowing in the moonlight
“Well, take me home then!” Luz said and laughed as they picked up speed, wind whipping through their hair, as they flew through the moonlit night.

Eda Clawthorne x Fem!Reader x Lilith Clawthorne: Corpse Bride (2/2)
Summary: A happier, non-canon compliant Corpse Bride AU with Lilith and Eda.
AO3
A/N: This was done in collaboration with the amazing @scoutshonor69 !! They have written part one, so please pop over and read their work before this!
Part 1 :)
Warning(s): None
Tumblr media
There was a bout of silence that was too long for you to be comfortable in your admission. Hoping to fix the situation, you rushed to apologize, stuttering out your apologies.
“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make things awkward- Just forget I said anything!” You rushed out, trying hard to smile in a reassuring way.
The sisters seemed to snap from their shock at that. Both of them furrowing their brows in a way that was very similar.
“Why are you apologizing?” Lilith asked.
“I… I thought I made things weird.”
You practically whispered that, looking down at your feet embarrassedly. It would hurt, but you’d rather have them in a platonic way then not at all. They were everything to you.
Eda and Lilith couldn’t help but smile softly at you, their hearts melting. Eda tilted your chin up so that you were looking at the both of them. Then they both leant forward, placing a gentle kiss to each of your cheeks.
Heat erupted on your face as you became flustered. It didn’t stop a happy smile from spreading across your face, though - or the tears of joy welling up in your eyes.
“Oh, sweetheart, we didn’t mean to upset you!” Eda said, wiping one of the tears with a skeletal thumb.
You let out a laugh, leaning into her hand on your cheek. Being near them, touched by them, made you feel safe and loved. The tears were merely a manifestation of the joy flooding your heart. No misery was present.
“They’re happy tears.” You said warmly.
Lilith and Eda relaxed as you looked between them fondly. Wrapping you in their arms, you let yourself sink into the love surrounding you.
----
After that first moment, you thought you couldn’t get any happier. But you’d been mistaken.
Shortly after admitting your love for the two women, you realized how peculiar your situation was. You were in love with two sisters - one living, one dead - and they loved you back. But how do you make a life with two women, one of which has none?
Eda had built a life in the underground, while Lilith had a life in the city. So you did the best thing you could think of. Gathering the few important possessions you owned, you used your small sum of money and bought a cozy old cottage. An old cottage that just happened to be perfectly situated between the city and the entrance to the underground.
Lilith and Eda wouldn’t be there during the day, but that didn’t bother you much. You were clever enough to keep yourself busy. Baking, painting, and your newest endeavour- gardening.
The old cottage had severely neglected garden beds. Playing host to the husks of wilted flowers, disintegrating upon being touched. Such a beautiful building was marred by a decrepit landscape. Leading to your intricate planning and subsequent planting of a garden.
In the back there was a squared plot, full of vegetables and fruits, arranged neatly in rows. That wasn’t your pride and joy, though. The title of ‘pride and joy’ belonged to the lovingly planted flowers in front of the house. What once homed wilted, unloved husks now boasted bright blooms. Blooms that held meanings tied to your two loves.
Beautiful Edelweiss for Lilith. Meanings of courage, devotion, and the ability to thrive in harsh conditions rang true for her. In the worst moments, Lilith had suspected that she’d be the one to lose you. That you’d choose Eda over her. And still, she stayed, loving you through it completely.
Magenta Lilacs were planted alongside for Eda. None felt more perfect. The love and passion they symbolized had Eda written all over them. Her fierceness in protecting you when it mattered, and in loving you, though she had no way of knowing you’d return it.
Both flowers were planted with a soft, tender heart and gentle hands. Images of your loves in your mind keeping you company, as well as Owlbert. Owlbert was a skeletal owl who’d flown from the underground, finding his way to your cottage and decided to stick around. He hadn’t been the first undead creature to join your home. He certainly wouldn’t be the last.
But when none of the other creatures had been around, you rooted a third plant, back and away from curious hands. The Atropa belladonna. Deadly and yet beautiful, with its inky black berries. It wasn’t lost on you the meanings of the Belladonna plant. And though you were wildly in love with Eda and Lilith, you couldn’t deny that the plant felt representative of them.
Death and deception. Two unfortunately common themes in your beginnings with the sisters. You didn’t hold it against them though. The dark moments had been a stepping stone to the life you now shared with them. A life as bright as the Lilacs, but as enduring as the Edelweiss.
“Someone’s home!” The shrill voice of Hooty, a startling worm-like demon, screeched.
He’d done it a million times, but it startled you every time. Hooty wasn’t especially useful. Being the size of a worm, yet having the confusing ability of speech didn’t offer much in the way of productivity. So he took it upon himself to make announcements from the flower-pot on the windowsill that he lived in.
“Thanks, Hooty.” You sighed after your heart stopped racing.
There was the tell-tale sign of a key in the door, before it opened to reveal the two women who meant everything to you. Lilith’s cheeks, flushed from the cold, providing a contrast to Eda’s pale blue tones. It never failed to shock you that they were as different as could be. And yet they’d both captured you.
“Welcome home,” You said fondly, greeting them both with embraces, and all-too-short kisses, “How were your days?”
“Dreadful, but much better now.” Lilith said with uncharacteristic softness.
“Mine was alright. I’m glad to be home, though.” Eda smiled.
“Good. Dinner is almost ready, so feel free to set the table.”
You gave them both a loving smile, before turning to walk back into the kitchen. Two pairs of arms wrapping around you and holding you in place derailed your actions. You couldn’t help but let out a squeal of surprise as the sisters showered you with affection.
Worries of the inevitably burnt dinner faded as you laughed. After all, what was one burnt dinner, when you had the rest of eternity?

Kinda going off the last one I sent, Eda teasing Lilith by bringing up some of Lily's teenage crushes?
-_-
“Will she be okay?” Luz asked once again as Eda led Lilith to the couch. The older Clawthorne’s blush hadn’t died down on the entire ride back and now she was a bit worried about her fainting.
“Eh, she’ll be fine. She gets like this every time she gets a crush.” Leaving Lilith to adjust herself on the couch, Eda hurried from the living room. By the time Luz had returned from the kitchen with a glass of water for Lilith, Eda had returned. She was cackling under her breath, holding a large wooden box. “This is a box of all her crushes.”
“Do you mean that in a literal sense?”
“No.” She opened the box, revealing a bunch of photos and letters. She plucked one out, revealing a cyclops girl in a Grugby uniform. “This was Chelsea. She was the Grugby captain before we joined the team. Lily joined the team to spend time with her.”
She pulled out a love letter. “This was the confession note Lily wrote for this one girl in Potions named Summer.” Another photo. “Her name was Sage. This one was Blissa and she had this awful laugh...”
They went through the box, ignoring Lilith’s glare. “And this one-”
“Eda had a crush on this boy named Jeremy and she tried to lock them in a closet together.”
Eda turned red as Luz tried not to giggle.
Send me a prompt, please!

Midnight Striga: Fairy Tail/Owl House Cross Fic Episode 6 Part 2
Hello, and once again, welcome back to midnight Striga! Thanks for reading!
With a shout, Eda gripped the arm, slamming the attached body onto the ground. Looming over the hooded figure now gasping on the ground, Eda growled. “Now listen here you sneaky bastard, I don’t know who you are but you caaaaaaannnnnnn!?” She trailed off from her threat, shock rising as the hood fell back.
“Oh, hello, Edalyn!” The old woman cheered, flipping herself up and onto her feet. In a blink, she rushed in, pulling a frozen-stiff Eda into a bearhug. “I have so much news to tell you about!”
Luz blinked, eyes flicking between the two, before the features clicked. Eyes widening, she shot Eda a look. “So… this is your mom?” She asked, pointing at the woman.
Shaking herself back into the present, Eda groaned, lightly shoving the woman away. “Yes, unfortunately.” Giving a deep sigh, Eda turned to Luz, gesturing to the woman next to her. “Luz, meet my mother, Gwendolyn Clawthorne, and one of the single most recurring pains in my butt. Speaking of which,” She turned to Gwen, scowling, “What do you want, mom?”
Gwen gave a beaming grin, tilting her head in apparent thought. “Is it really such a shock that a mother would want to see her daughter?” She asked, neither aware of the way Luz tensed at her question. Both Gwen and Luz reeled back at the response she got, however.
“Yes.” Eda bit out, intense bitterness coating her voice. Standing firm, she put both hands on her hips, head tilted up in anger. “Everytime… EVERYTIME!! You’ve visited me since I’ve been living on my own, it’s been to try some cockamayme cure for my curse. And they. Never. Work!! So yeah, I’d say it’s reasonable to be a little skeptical.” She finished, panting slightly at the exertion of her outburst, lightly covering part of her wrist, and the feathers underneath.
Luz desperately held in the urge to shout at Eda for talking about the woman before her like that, but she could grudgingly admit to seeing where she was coming from. However, neither of them were fully prepared for Gwen’s reaction. Gwen gave a tired sigh, a sad smile forming across her features. “I do suppose I deserved that.” She chuckled, reaching up to Eda’s face, tracing a hand across her jaw, much to her daughter’s discomfort. “I promise, Edalyn, I just want to talk. That’s all. Please?”
Eda bit her lip, conflicted. On the one hand, she was sick and tired of being burned by her mother’s antics… and on the other hand, she was sick of her family being in pain, and was honestly wanting to have genuine quality time with her mother for once. Deciding to take the risk and just bite the bullet, Eda sighed, relenting. “Okay, fine! We can talk.” She said, throwing up her hands in exasperation. Turning a raised eyebrow to Luz, Eda asked, “You want in on this, kid?”
Seeing the two witches giving her matching looks of inquisitiveness, Luz blinked, before rapidly shaking her head. “Oh no!” Pointing to Eda, she continued, “You need this a lot more than I do at the moment, and, if that brief back and forth was any indicator, the two of you have enough issues to work through WITHOUT me being thrown in.” She stated, stepping back, arms raised. Shooting Eda a brave smirk, “Don’t worry, I’ll just make a day of it in town. I mean,” she shrugged, “I’ve kinda got to get used to people being suspicious of me in public all over again, why not start now?”
Coming to an agreement (“If you die, I’m selling all your stuff!” “Love ya too, Eda!), the group headed their separate ways, promising to catch up later. Gwen giddily dragged Eda along, who was personally torn between annoyance at the manhandling, and amusement at her mother’s amusement. “Yeesh, calm down, Gwen! You’re gonna rip my arm off!” Eda half-joked. Gwen’s yanks actually did have a real chance of removing her arms, but it’s not like that was a problem with her condition, really.
“Oh, I’m sorry dear, I’m just so excited!” Gwen squealed, a sheepish grin filling her face. “I just…” Her smile turned sad, “I just really wanted to see you.”
Eda gave her own sad laugh. “Don’t worry, I can understand the feeling.” Her mind flashed back to how she was after she and Raine split up, all the nights she wished they were back, wanting to see them. A thought came to her. “Hey, I just noticed… where’s Hawksley?” She asked.
Gwen gave her a mischievous wink. “Oh, he’s just looking after our other guest.”
Eda shot her a look of bafflement. “Other guest!? What are- oh no.” She groaned, as realization set in. Turning her gaze, she was in no way surprised to see Lilith, glumly slumped over a table before them, Hawksley perched on top of her head. What did shock Eda, however, was the bottle of Appleblood Lilith was chugging. Turning accusing eyes towards an unrepentant Gwen, Eda shouted. “SERIOUSLY!?”
Cheerfully whistling to herself, Luz strolled along, using the noise of her whistling to tune out the whispers and muttering all around her. It was honestly a neat trick, but she was well aware it wouldn’t work forever, especially if she ended somewhere more crowded. Scanning the area, Luz was disappointed, if unsurprised, by the sight of parents tucking their kids behind them as she moved past. It hurt. It was understandable, but it still hurt.
Sighing, Luz slipped into the shadows, rolling her eyes when the sounds of the main streetside picked up in volume at her ‘departure.’ Still, the sheer amount of gossip was entertaining, if only for the wild speculations and rantings of the more… colorful members of the local communities. Seriously, her? A shapeshifting giraffe seeking to supplant the Emperor through a false army of Abominations wrapped in Illusions? Pfft! She was gonna have to tell Eda that one, preferably when she was trying to drink something!
Laughing internally at the thought of an Owl Lady Spit Take, Luz tightened her movements against the wall. Her ears pricked at the sounds up ahead; it didn’t sound like the usual rampant paranoia. And if she focused enough, she was almost certain…
“Look, I know things are… really crazy right now.” Amity’s voice sounded out, confirming Luz’s suspicions. “But I honestly think this’ll be good for all of us. The Moonlight Conjuring is an important aspect of our culture, and is a funtime all around. If you all show up while it’s still daylight, nothing should go wrong.” Moonlight Conjuring? Hmm… something to talk with Eda about.
“B-But what if those Oroboros creeps attack again!? I can’t put my parents through that!” An unfamiliar voice questioned, concerned murmurs of agreement sounding in response.
Amity’s voice sighed. “I… I know it’s scary. The things I saw at the Covention, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget, not entirely.” Her voice took a melancholy note, before firming. “But in a way, that’s why we have to do this!” At the sounds of confusion, she continued. “That attack was supposed to make us afraid, to make us all panic. Something that it’s managed in spades all across the Isles. But for all that Oroboros is powerful, it’s an organization with a finite amount of resources. They can’t be everywhere at once, and no organization would commit precious resources to attack a party for school youths!” The nervousness died down, replaced with cautious contemplation. Luz gave a little smirk; Miss Blight apparently had a way with words, and some serious charisma if they were already changing their tune.
“I’ll go.” A familiar voice said. It took Luz a moment to place it; it was the voice of that girl who Boscha had burned! Her voice spoke up again. “If you can find someone to protect us, just in case, I’ll go.”
“W-Well, that’s fantastic!” Amity said, faux-excitedly. If Luz had to guess, her friend speaking up had caught her flat-footed, and she was trying to get things under control. “And I know just the person to do so! If you all show up before sundown, I promise, on the Blight name, you’ll all have an amazing time!” At that, all potential opposition crumbled, a chorus of agreements and cheers going up. As sounds of footsteps headed off, Luz peaked around the corner. She saw Amity, jerkily waving goodbye to her… friends? Acquaintances? Her face stretched into a plastic smile.
Suddenly, Amity rammed her head against the wall, knocking her forehead against the stone repeatedly, frustrated grumbles coming forth. “Stupid. Stupid. Stupid! Oh, I’ll find someone to guard us, everyone! Leave everything to Amity, everyone! I swear it on my family name!” She slapped her hand against her face. “Titan, what was I thinking!?”
“I don’t think you were.” Luz dryly noted, walking out from her pseudo-hiding place. Amity leapt back, startled. Luz noted how quickly she shifted into a ready position, one arm pulled back to cast, the other slightly pressed forward to defend herself, legs prepped to spring to either side and out of the way. She was honestly impressed, the girl had some athletic experience.
“Oh! It’s you!” Amity exclaimed, relaxing slightly, if not fully. “Luz, correct?” She said, more than asked, extending a hand for a shake. Smirking, Luz complied, giving the girl a firm grip, Amity’s eyes widening at the painless pressure. Schooling her features into a cordial smile, she grinned. “It’s a pleasure to see you again.”
“Really?” Luz asked, blinking rapidly. She had honestly not been expecting that. She cocked her head. “I kind of expected you to be some level of scared of me.”
“Oh, don’t worry, what you represent terrifies me.” Amity said frankly, the sheer honesty in her voice drawing a surprised snort out of Luz. “However,” Amity continued, her eyes focusing on Luz. “I gained a look into your measure during the Covention. You are wild, independant, and freely and liberally resort to violence even faster than Witches and Demons do. But you’re also loyal, caring, compassionate, and understanding, with a strong sense of duty. While I find you puzzling, your traits are those that I find commendable.”
“HA! Glad to hear.” Luz smirked. Her face shifted into a serious frown, contemplative. “You know, I overheard your little problem. So,” She grinned cheekily, “You need to find a bodyguard, eh?”
“Ugh! Please don’t use that phrase!” Amity near-pleaded, hiding her face in her hands. “My family has been going nuts over my safety. I am honestly lucky that they let me go into town without an armed guard of Abominations!”
Luz snorted, blinking at the mental image of Abominations skulking around Bonesburough, scanning for threats and hovering over an annoyed Amity. “Wow, over-protective, much?”
Amity exhaustedly nodded. “Yeah. My parents… aren’t the best, but they do care about me. Even if they care about our image more.” She said, muttering the last part spitefully. Shaking her head, she refocused on the original topic. “But yes, I need someone who’s willing to stand guard for me and those I plan on inviting to my Conjuring.”
“What about me?”
Amity blinked. “I’m sorry?”
“What about having me be your guard?” Luz elaborated, shrugging. “I’ve got combat experience, free time, and you won’t have to pay me!”
“That’s-!” Amity started, before pausing. She brought her fingers to her chin, eyes narrowed in thought. “That could actually work.”
“Really?” Luz asked, cocking her head. “The offer was serious, but I wasn’t actually expecting you to agree.”
Amity gave a grave smile, nodding. “Indeed, I’m willing to agree to this. If you don’t have any requirements?” She asked, eyebrows raised.
Luz paused, thinking. “If you could invite Willow and Gus, I’d really appreciate it.” She finally said.
“Done.” Amity said decisively, typing up the messages on her scroll. “That honestly works out rather well; ever since their actions at the Covention, their popularity has sky-rocketed and my friends have been wondering about meeting with them so this is an excellent opportunity. If that’s all, I will see you at my home before sunset; you can ask Willow and Augustus for directions.” WIth that said, she turned on her heel, marching off. Luz shook her head at Amity’s antics, before turning to leave herself. Neither noticed the group of individuals perched on a nearby building, the apparent leader’s eyes tracking Luz’s every movement.
“Of course,” Eda muttered, staring in resignation at the sight of her sister, chugging away on the table in front of her. Shooting an accusing stare towards Gwen, Eda moodily stomped over, plopping herself down from across her sister, glaring at her.
“EeeeDalyn?” Lilith blearily asked, words slurring slightly. She hiccuped, bottle awkwardly cradled in her hand, the other bracing her against the table. “Since when are you purple?” She muttered.
“Purple?” Eda said incredulously. She turned to Gwen, concerned. “Is it me, or is she…?”
“Absolutely wasted? No, it isn’t you, she really is.” Gwen noted dryly, casually yanking the bottle of Appleblood out of Lilith’s hands, ignoring her weak protests. “I dragged her out of her barracks, kicking and screaming. I believe a few of the Coven Guards who tried to stop me may be in need of Healing. Now, we are going to take the time to stop, think, and figure things out. As a family.” She said firmly, arms crossed.
The bitter snort came from Lilith, of all people, much to Eda and Gwen’s shock. “A-A family.” She chuckled, swaying lightly. “Is that what we are?” She laughed again, slapping the table. “And here I thought we were a bunch of strangers, pretending we CaReD about each other!!”
Gwen and Eda shared unsettled looks. Gwen hesitantly spoke up. “Now, Little Flea, I know I’ve been… distant, but-”
“DO NOT CALL ME THAT!!” Lilith shrieked, eyes wild, before calming down. “I-I haven’t been ‘Little Flea,’” She muttered derisively, “Since you abandoned me!” She accused, fist pounding against the table.
“Abandon!?” Eda exclaimed, confused and alarmed at her estranged sister’s behavior. “Sis, I don’t know what’s been going on with you, but how has Gwen abandoned you?”
Eda reeled back at the bitter anger in Lilith’s face. “She never came to my induction into the Coven, did you know that?” She said, “She never showed up for any of my promotions, any of my awards, anything!! She just, up and left!” Lilith laughed, a bitter, hollow sound. “And here, I learned that she’s been visiting you for Years!! Trying to cure you!”
Gwen’s eyes grew misty. “I have made mistakes, and I apologize for that, Lilybug.” She said, reaching out towards Lilith, unconcerned when she slapped her hand away. “You were always so strong, so independent. I never meant to ignore you. I’m sorry if I hurt you because of it. But that’s why I dragged you both here!” She pleaded, glancing at the two of them. She wrung her hands in nervousness. “I just didn’t want to fail the two of you again. I know I can’t fix the pain between the two of you, and I don’t expect to. I just wanted to get you two together to hash out some ground rules, if that’s okay?” She explained, a hesitant note at the end
Eda and Lilith shared a glance, a moment of grudging understanding passing between them.
Eda turned to her mother first. “Okay, I guess we can do that. But if you’re serious about being in my life for real, I don’t want you coming around with crazy cures anymore.” Her voice took on a tender note. “If you’re gonna come over, I just want it to be so we can spend some time together, okay?”
“And I’d prefer you to visit me AT ALL!” Lilith shouted, some of the slurring fading from her voice. Eda was honestly surprised at how quickly she was recovering; a glance at her neck, and the Healing Glyph tagged onto it explained much; it was forcibly purging the Appleblood from her body, getting her back to normal. Eda winced; Lilith was going to feel like HELL when that thing wore off. “I want you to visit me, ask me about my day, take an interest in my Life!!” Tears pricked at Lilith’s eyes. “I want my mother back!” She pleaded.
Gwen turned a watery smile towards the two of them. “I think I can manage those requests.” She said, a pleased smile on her face. She grew serious. “Now then, If we are going to act like a family, as a whole that is, I am going to be doing my motherly duties, and establishing some rules for the two of you.” She stated, nodding even as her daughters groaned. She continued, ignoring their annoyance. “The rules are simple; Eda, you are to no-longer deliberately antagonize Lilith. If the two of you run into one another, you are to keep a civil attitude and in no way try to anger or upset her. Lilith, you are to cease your attitude in attempting to bring Edalyn in under the guise of being cured. If Edalyn is brought in, it is to be because she is a criminal and flouting the law, not out of an inane desire to cure her. Besides, I strongly doubt Belos would do so in the first place.” She finished, feeling a smug satisfaction at her daughters’ matching look of dumbfounded shock.
“B-But! He promised me!” Lilith said, whined really. “He gave me his word!!”
Eda groaned, even as Gwen raised an eyebrow. “Lilith, Belos’ regime is built on his Coven System, something Eda’s very existence stands in challenge to,” She said gently, “There are no circumstances in which he will EVER cure her. If you bring her in, he will have her thrown into the Conformatorium, and nothing more. He has all the leverage, and all the authority, and you have nothing that could compel him into curing her at your behest.”
Lilith shakily pulled herself to her feet, staggering off, a mumbled excuse echoing as she rapidly walked off, tears in her eyes. Gwen sighed. That had gone about as well as she’d been expecting.
Eda turned an impressed look towards Gwen. “Well dang, Mom! Didn’t know you were such a rebel!”
Gwen shot her daughter an unimpressed look. “I’m not.” She said primly.
Eda had a look of disbelief. “Really? Because you didn’t have a problem calling out Bonehead on his crap.” She said snarkily.
“That is because I am under no delusions as to his nature.” She said, “Belos’ rise to power and initial rule was tyrannical and cold, utterly without mercy. I, and many others, chose to join his burgeoning power because it was literally either him or complete chaos and anarchy. Not everyone can survive it as well as you, Edalyn.” She said archly, almost daring her to protest.
Eda opened her mouth to do just that, but paused, considering. Ultimately, she sighed, pushing herself away from the table. “Yeah, that’s true. I still hate him, and I always will, but I can get why people shacked up with him, even if I disagree with him on principle.” She grudgingly, painfully admitted. Giving her mother a level look. “This, as short, weird, and awkward as it’s been, was nice. I really hope you keep in touch for real, okay?” She said softly, before walking away.
Gwen just smiled, tears of relief and sadness filling her eyes. It wasn’t much… but it was a start.

Curses!
Lilith looked down at her ragged robes  then up her younger sister who was floating above her. Eda’s staff and fingers still sparked with dark vengeful power.
The head of the Emperor’s Coven sighed in exhausted defeat”So what are you going to do to me sister? Turn me into a statue? Force me to vomit talking squirrels every five minutes? Come on Edalyne! Curse me! Get your vengeance!”
Eda smirked  down at her. “Your already cursed you sorry boot licking sack of dried griffon livers!”Her sister’s face turned scornful.”Your cursed to wake up every day and look in the mirror at the face of the jealous little brat that cursed her little sister while she slept! Your cursed to live as the pathetic weakling had to hurt the one who loved her more than anything to get everything she has.”
The owl lady sat on her staff stared hard down at Lilith. “Your cursed to be you Lilith. And their is nothing on the Boiling Isles worse than that.” Then she flew off leaving Lilith to stew in the rubble.
“Hmm. Still too soft Edalyne” The elder Clawthorn then headed to her rooms to prepare.
*The Next Day*
Luz poured her mentor a glass of apple blood and handed it her grinning.
“That sure was big of you not cursing Lilith like that.”She said sitting beside Eda and welcoming King onto her lap.
“What do you mean kid?” Eda responded after a long sip.
“That whole  speech about how nothing you could do to her was worse that being who she already was!” Luz clasped her hands and practically swooned.”You showed her who was the real mature one!”
Eda snorted and spat out her arcane beverage. Then she started to cackle uncontrollably.
Luz looked confused.”What’s so funny?”
Eda continued to laugh harder and harder only stopping to squeal out “mature” before giving into mirth once more.
Luz and King looked at her then each other and shrugged.
Meanwhile at the emperor’s castle the Coven’s head’s bedroom was a wreck.
“Something has to work! Something has to fix this!” Lilith cried. She grasped at her books and scrolls before throwing them down in frustration.
Lilith ran her fingers through her thick, bright orange curls and her now much to large robes fell off her skinny adolescent arms.
She grabbed at her enormous round glasses and threw them to the ground only to feel them reappear on her face.
Then she turned to brace her arms on the vanity and hissed at her acne in the mirror.
“The face of the one who cursed her little sister while she slept.”she spat at the all to familiar young  girl staring back at her.”You’ve always thought you were funny Edalyne.”

Kidnapped - Chapter 2
Amity knows she'll have to leave at some point.
Due to a sudden motivational spurt I decided to make a tiny little sequel xD
Ao3 / FF.net
---
It wasn’t that Amity wanted to go. Truly, she loved it here.
In the Owl House, she was surrounded by familiarity and warmth and she found herself calling this chaotic situation a home.
She was by no means forced to stay here, even if they pretended that she was, not to get her in trouble with the Emperor’s Coven. Even if she had originally planned on never returning.
It had become pointless to pretend if she was being honest. For all she cared, the Emperor could call her a liar and a traitor. If she was allowed to stay here, with the Clawthorne sisters, Hooty, King, and Luz, she would be content.
But she knew, deep within, that she’d have to return.
If she wouldn’t, deep-rooted traditions within her family would be interrupted, and that would cause dire consequences for her, her siblings, and extend to her siblings’ families. She’d be downgraded to a criminal, and the guards would search for her relentlessly. She’d be written out to be found dead or alive, and as she knew many of the Coven’s bounty hunters, they’d kill her just so she wouldn’t make problems while being handed out to the Coven.
She’d endanger the whole Owl House, all the wild witches, much more than she had when she’d still been a high-ranking officer at the Coven and been able to prevent most devastating strikes to the wild witches.
She knew she’d have to go home eventually, for the sake of her siblings’ families, for the sake of her friends’ safety, and for her own sake. She wouldn’t be able to live with herself if anything happened to her loved ones.
It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair to her that she had to be the one to suffer. It wasn’t fair that she couldn’t be some inconspicuous face like Steve, or just some random citizen.
It wasn’t fair that Blight was her last name, and that she had been accepted into the Coven as a well-known and feared member, due to coming from a prestigious family providing the Coven with Abomatons.
A single tear rolled down her cheek until she shook her head and breathed through. She wouldn’t wipe it away, though.
Pulling her hood up higher, Amity crossed the living room in which Lilith was sleeping soundly, then she slowly opened the door and exited the Owl House. Hooty was fast asleep, much to her relief, as was all of the house. She grabbed her staff tighter, then she mounted it.
Before she could do so much as say goodbye silently, a light came on in the Owl House and she recognized Luz’s silhouette in the window frame. She had probably been watching her already, and Amity knew there was no way she could still take off without a comment.
“What’re you doing?”, Luz asked and Amity flinched at the toxicity that dripped from her voice. She was betraying them.
Breathing through, Amity turned back to her, and she couldn’t help herself. Tears spilled from her eyes now, rolling down her cheeks and dripping from her chin.
“I-… I’m sorry, Luz.”
The human huffed, before hopping onto her own staff and gliding down to her, still in her pajamas. Amity couldn’t continue looking at her when the disappointed expression on her face became visible, the closer she got. Looking down to the ground, she saw Luz’s feet coming to a halt next to her.
“You’re not.”, she mumbled. Her tone had changed, apparently, she had seen her crying.
Amity’s chest got heavier as she sniffled and still looked away. She had learned from her mother’s chastising that usually, the punishment would get a little lighter if she showed obedience and submissiveness.
“I-… I am…”, she tried but Luz breathed heavily, before grabbing her shoulder. It wasn’t a tight grip, but Amity felt all the weight and disappointment in her hand.
“… Why do you want to go back?”, Luz finally asked and Amity squinted her eyes, not wanting to answer. She’d have to lie unless she wanted to blow her cover for the emperor.
“I can’t stay, Luz. I-…”
“You’re not loyal to him.”, the human stated, as a matter of fact. Amity didn’t want to admit that was the truth, because she had to play the part, and if she admitted it to herself, her cover wouldn’t hold up under the testing glare of the emperor. Especially not with her, after she had spent a week at the Owl House.
“I-… I’m loyal to him, a-and I have to return.”, she tried making her voice sound steady and reasonable but Luz looked right through her.
But instead of being punished and chastised for lying, Luz just pulled her close. Cradled her head, pulled her to rest against her shoulder, and just kept the hug for a few minutes.
“Why do you really want to leave?”, she finally asked and Amity broke. She couldn’t lie to Luz. Even if she had to keep the cover. Even if she was only doing this to-…
“To protect you.”, she finally forced out and the human pulled her in tighter. This was a behavior that she had not usually experienced, neither as a child with her parents nor with her job as an adult. Utter acceptance.
“You know that we can just-… Keep you our prisoner?”, Luz asked but Amity wouldn’t have it. She shook her head, sighing, snuggling closer to her human.
“You can’t do that forever. At some point, they’ll find you and kill you all. I-… I couldn’t-…”, she hiccupped and Luz’s arms wound tighter around her waist, holding her closer, pressing her into the warmth that Amity had come to love all those years ago and never forgotten how protected it made her feel.
“And what will happen to you once you go back, huh?”, Luz reasoned. Amity broke at that. She’d keep everyone she loved safe, at the cost of her own life.
“I-… I’ll serve the emperor.”, she recited, a sentence she had said so often already, but never meant a word.
“… I can’t let you leave.”, she finally reasoned, her arms locking around her waist and Amity couldn’t help, couldn’t deny but feeling just how happy that made her.
“He’ll kill you. If he discovers I’m a traitor, he’ll do everything to kill us all, my siblings’ families, my friends, everyone who’s close to me. I can’t let that happen.”
Leaning back, Luz caught her gaze. Amity didn’t want to lift her head, so she just rolled it to the side and looked up to Luz who was craning her neck to maintain eye contact.
“So-… You have to return.”, she said. Apparently, she had understood the situation Amity was in, now. It wasn’t her own safety or the safety of the Owl House on the stake, but her siblings’ and quite possibly Willow’s and Gus’ safety as well.
“I have to return and play my part.”, she nodded, but Luz wouldn’t let her go.
“I-… I don’t want you to leave.”
At the adorable pout Amity received, she couldn’t keep resting her head on Luz’s shoulder, and instead straightened up to press a soft kiss to her lips.
“It’ll be okay. I’ll play my part and everyone will be safe. Including you, if you don’t try dumb, reckless things.”
Huffing, Luz grumbled, but she finally let her go. Amity already missed her arms around her, pulling her in so close, keeping her warm, and holding off any negativity.
“I’ll come and save you.”, she promised and Amity sighed, nodding.
“I don’t doubt it. But I have to warn you. I’ll keep up the cover and do everything that you won’t kidnap me again. It’s safer if you just kept put and wouldn’t try anything.”
The familiar gleam in Luz’s eyes revealed that she had been talking to deaf ears. Round, deaf ears. Stupidly adorable, but still deaf ears.
Huffing, Amity cupped her face in both her hands and made her look at her.
“Luz. Don’t do it.”
Shrugging, the human grinned, then she waved it off despite Amity squishing her cheeks to keep eye contact.
“I won’t, not ever. I won’t kidnap you, like, at night when everyone’s sleeping, to a date off the radar, and bring you back before anyone notices.”, she drawled, and Amity had to admit, that did hex a little smile on her face.
“You think you’re that stealthy, huh?”
Bringing up a hand, Luz booped her nose, then she grinned.
“I got someone on the inside to help me. And besides. Maybe at some point, I will really keep you. And, I don’t know, set your room on fire or something, so that they’ll think you died.”
Sticking her tongue out, Amity once again mounted her staff, then she pressed the last kiss to Luz’s lips, which she happily returned.
“I’ll be waiting for you to stage my death, then.”, she hummed and Luz grinned, shrugging and taking her hand.
“Maybe it’ll be sooner than later.”
Laughing, Amity lifted off, even if Luz’s hand kept on hers.
“I’m counting on it.”
When Amity few away, Luz got smaller and smaller, but she never stopped waving.

the years wore on, and changed my heart (The Owl House)
AO3: archiveofourown.org/works/23366812
Summary: A Boiling Isles fairy tale about two sisters, a curse, and the demon king who did the cursing.
Characters: King, Eda Clawthorne, Lilith Clawthorne, Luz Noceda
Relationships: Eda Clawthorne & King, Eda Clawthorne & Lilith Clawthorne
you ever think of a theory so unlikely yet so sad that you feel the need to write a fic about it immediately? that's basically the origin story here. (title is from "East" by Sleeping at Last because boy oh boy does that song have some King vibes)
***
(This is the part of the tale that a few parents still tell their children, to scare them into behaving.)
Once upon a time, there lived two Witches. Two sisters, the same blood and same bile running through their hearts of stone. They loved each other, and protected each other, and even in their dreams of the future, they never left each other’s sides.
But the firey-orange-haired sister had a fierce and rebellious spirit, chafing against authority and conformity of any form. The dark-haired sister still loved her, of course, but love slowly turned to worry, and worry to fear — after all, there was no room in the Emperor’s Coven for someone who openly questioned the foundations of the coven system itself.
Once upon a time, there lived a mighty King of Demons. Fur as black as shadows, hypnotizing round eyes that shone like two twin moons, and a cold uncaring heart, drawn only to conquest and brutality.
But a King is no Emperor, and despite his might and his magic, he found himself ousted. To reclaim his usurped throne, he could not simply act alone — he needed an army of ferocious servants, loyal servants, powerful servants.
Once upon a time, the King spied a head of red hair questioning the Emperor’s authority. He donned a mask to approach her — a two-horned skull that fit neatly over his own head, concealing his royal identity — and invited her to meet him at a later date, for he believed they had many views about the Emperor in common.
The naive Witch accepted his offer, and agreed to meet him on the night of the next full moon. When she told her sister about the conversation, the dark-haired Witch begged her not to go — it’s a trap! There could be agents of the Emperor waiting for you! You could be arrested — and then how will we ever be able join the Emperor’s Coven together? Please, stay home! Don’t throw your life away!
The firey-haired witch was not swayed by her sister’s pleas, and when the night of the full moon came, she drugged her sister with an illicitly brewed potion and slipped out of their house unnoticed. The icy nighttime winds howled, as if they to were begging her to turn back, but she ventured onwards, through the forest and towards the lair of the deposed King.
The masked King cordially welcomed her inside, and invited her to sit down. He had a plan to overthrow the Emperor, he explained, but before he could trust anyone to join his rebellion, he needed to pose them a few questions:
Do you hate conforming? he asked. Do you hate the expectations this world has for you?
I do! the Witch replied. I always have! I knew you’d understand!
Would you like to be something original? he continued. Something unprecedented? Something fierce and powerful and chaotic that the world has never seen before, something that’ll shatter all their dumb expecations of what a witch or a demon should be?
Of course! the starry-eyed witch exclaimed. That’s everything I want to be!
The King smiled as he cast aside his mask, and the concentric circles within his eyes lit up one by one. Then thank you for enlisting.
Before the skull-mask even struck the rocky ground, one of its horns breaking upon impact, the curse had been cast. Like an extinguished flame, the Witch’s orange hair turned gray in the blink of an eye. Her teeth and nails sharpened into fangs and talons, while two wings sprouted from her back, and she let out a bloodcurdling scream so loud it woke her sister from her slumber back in town.
After she fled the cave, the cursed Witch’s sister found her first, and smuggled her to the house of a friend Potions track who could brew an elixir and slow the curse’s progression. But for a complete cure, they would need to beseech the Emperor’s Coven themselves for help — and the cursed Witch refused, for such was the fury that she held for the Emperor. She was too proud to let any coven brand her with their magic, even if she turned into a monster without their help — and turn into a monster she did, as the years passed by.
Some say the Owl Lady still dwells in the Boiling Isles even as her curse worsens, spreading dissent against the covens by day and feeding upon unsuspecting witches by night. Do not stay out to late, young Witchling, or she will steal you away and drink your blood.
Even more importantly, do not make trouble for your elders, or the deposed King will lure you away and curse you. Give thanks to your Emperor, for freeing us from that wretched demon’s reign of terror.
***
(This is the part of the tale that no one tells their children because the only two to ever know it were the Witch and the King, and they forgot it all as soon as it happened.)
Once upon a time, a King cast a spell, and once upon a time, a Witch fought back. As the Witch’s hair turned gray, so did the world surrounding her. As she was plunged into the void, she did not go quietly, and she dragged the King down with her.
Surrounded by darkness, the King still laughed. With each ripple of magic reflected in his eyes, the Witch transformed further, feathers bristling and fangs elongating, but the King paid little attention to the nails at his neck transforming into talons.
You’re my beast now! he roared. You’re going to help me regain my throne!
The Witch drew no circles in the air, but something dark and primal ran through her transforming heart — and with it, she tapped into the foundations of the cursing spell itself. It was a rare type of magic that she performed that day, fueled just as much by spite as it was by bile.
The King had cursed her with a spark of his demonic essence. Well, she was going to take it.
She was going to take everything he had, everything ferocious and bestial and intimidating about him. She was going to take everything except his orders.
You want to make me a demon?! she screamed. Fine! I’ll make you powerless!
The King realized, too late, what was happening. His body, made more of ichor and magic than of flesh, was losing its form, liquifying and reshaping within that blank gray void, and he screamed too as he lurched forward and his head collided with the head of the transforming Witch.
Upon impact, a bolt of pain split open two minds, and in an instant, the Witch and the King both forgot.
A mighty demon and a puny mortal walked into the deposed King’s lair that day, and a mighty demon and a puny mortal left it. Neither looked the same, nor remembered as much, as when they had entered.
The Owl Lady left first, scampering out of the cave on all fours and practically bounding into her terrified sister’s arms. She had clung to just enough of herself to hold it together, and restrain herself from lashing out at what by all means should have been her prey — but as the years passed by, her control would wane, and she would come to depend on higher and higher elixir doses to stay herself.
The deposed Demon King awakened more slowly, as the sun began to rise and turn fateful night to ordinary day. He felt tiny and out of place in this lair, dwarfed in stature by mere stalactites and startled by every shadow — but most of all, he felt confused.
What am I doing here? How did I get here?
As little as he remembered, he knew that something was wrong. He was more than this runt of a body, more than these cowardly instincts. He was important. He was a ruler. He was a King — so where were his offerings? Where was his might? Where were his powers?
He didn’t remember how, but he knew he had been humiliated. He couldn’t be seen like this, he couldn’t be recognized. He needed to hide —
Frantically pacing in tiny circles, he nearly tripped over a skull lying on the floor, one of its horns intact and the other broken. It would do nicely to hide his identity, he realized — and maybe, just maybe, strike terror in his enemies’ hearts.
For the second time in recent history and first time in recent memory, the King donned his mask. Then he set out into the surrounding forest, in search of answers and royal subjects that he would not find.
***
(This is the tale no one tells their children because it’s only just now happened, and no one knows how the story will end.)
Once upon a time, there lived two Witches, torn apart by a curse. They both thought themselves successful, and believed the other was throwing their life away. They still loved each other, of course, and would never wish grave harm upon each other — but oh, were they loath to admit it.
Once upon a time, there lived a puny, impish King. He loved dreaming of conquest, and of sacrifices made in his name, but most of all, he loved the gray-haired Witch who’d taken him in off the street. The Owl Lady was what they called her, and The Owl Lady and The Demon King had a wonderfully ominous ring to it, after all. They made a good team, especially once the Human arrived to complete their sinister triumvirate.
Sadly, the Witch was afflicted with a curse, and this upset the King and Human greatly. Though the King often spoke of ruling with a cold heart and iron fist, he hated seeing the Witch upset — and he’d never seen anything upset her more than her worsening curse, no matter how insistent she was that she was fine, and there was nothing to worry about.
When he took back his throne, the King decided, he would convene a royal panel of investigators to track down whoever did this to the Witch. Then he would throw them in the dungeon until they agreed to undo the curse, at which point he would allow them to do so, before throwing them back in an even darker, smellier dungeon for the rest of their natural life.
He decided as much within an hour of learning of the curse’s existence, and informed the Human of his plan very matter-of-factly. She patted him on the head, and told him he would make a great ruler one day — but the King was more perceptive than he seemed. He sensed the doubt in the Human’s voice, and the sadness in her eyes.
She didn’t think he could do it, and he wasn’t quite sure if he blamed her.
The King was weak, and he knew it. Even from beneath his grim mask, he could hardly inspire fear, much less inspire ferocious warriors to listen to him. He was in no position to command an army of demons.
But once upon a time, while plotting revenge against an usurper his equal in size, he made a discovery: the Witch, while only half-transformed, would obey his commands with no hesitation. Knowing not of the spell-gone-awry that had tied them together a lifetime ago, the King was surprised — but the surprise stirred familiar feelings.
Confidence. Determination. Vengeance.
The Owl Lady was the most powerful demon the King had ever met, and at first, he feared this development was too good to be true. But a ghost of a memory had already returned to haunt him, presenting itself not as a recollection, but as an idea too tempting to resist:
He would use her to take back his playground throne — a logical first step towards world domination. It would be over quickly, and the Witch wouldn’t be hurt — she didn’t seem unhappy in this cursed form, after all — and no one would be the wiser. He would do this just to prove that he could, to prove that he was still a natural-born leader. To prove that he wasn’t as weak or as puny as he looked.
But upon reaching the playground, the Witch once again did what she did best — she rebelled. The King’s vague memory had prepared him for this possibility, and he had half-consciously resolved not to make the same mistake twice, but he hadn’t expected the backup elixir to fail him. He hadn’t expected demon hunters.
Most of all, he hadn’t expected to do the unthinkable, and abdicate his newly reclaimed throne. But the King loved the Witch more than any throne or kingdom or offerings, and deep in his heart, he knew there was no other choice he could make.
He squealed with all the rage he could muster — far more than a demon his size should’ve been able to contain. It was anger with the person who’d cursed his Witch, and it was anger with himself, for using the Witch in his own selfish scheme… and against all odds, it worked. The Witch remembered — not the truth of the past, but the truth of the present.
The King was her friend. She didn’t want to hurt him.
Later that night, the Witch admitted to the King what she’d never admit to the Human — whether it was because she’d known him longer, or because he’d clearly already assumed as much, the King didn’t know. But, for whatever reason, the Witch admitted that her elixirs weren’t working anymore, and as she spoke, her confident facade cracked and split open like the King had never seen before.
He hugged her. He didn’t know what else to do. How could he feel so helpless, so powerless, yet so guilty?
She hugged him back, cradling him in her arms and tucking him just beneath her chin, but even that felt just wrong and undeserved. He’d schemed, and manipulated, and hurt his dearest friend — and if this was what it took to be the King of Demons, then he wasn’t even sure what he wanted to be, anymore.
He told her, an admission for an admission. How he’d discovered that she would listen to his orders. How he’d been so power-hungry, and desperate for the reclaiming of his playground throne, that he’d used her. How inexcusable the whole affair had been.
I’m sorry, Eda, he sobbed. I’m so, so sorry —
I know, King, the Witch murmured, running her fingers through the fur on his back. That’s why I forgive you.

Moonlit Masquerade: Moonlit Ever After Pt 2
Luz hopped off her staff in front of the portal, letting King down to scamper back into the house with Eda and Lilith before she stepped through the door. That uncomfortable magicless feeling washed over her and she shook herself as she dashed out of the old shack.
She jogged to her mother’s house, today was Halloween, so no one walking up and down the street even blinked an eye at her as jogged past in her usual witchy attire, staff on her back.
She'd have to bring Amity here next Halloween. They could do something fun for their first anniversary and just walk around as they were and no one would think twice.
"Mami, you home?" Luz peeked her head in the door, not bothering with knocking.
"Coming, Mija!"
Her mother appeared on the stairs, her hair lying in a shiny, flat curtain against her back and dressed in a knee-length, dark green dress, a belt cinched around her waist.
"Ay, looking good, Mami!" Luz grinned, shooting her a finger gun.
"Thank you, baby, but wait until you see Amity." She smiled knowingly, and color Luz intrigued. She of course was already waiting on bated breath to see her soon to be wife, but her mother making mention of it has her even more excited.
"Was she beautiful in her dress? I mean, I know she must be, she's always beautiful, even when she first gets up and is grumpy and has bed head and morning breath…," Luz rambled excitedly and her mother just smiled knowingly at her. It was always nice to see the ways in which Luz hadn’t changed while she was away; made it feel like she hadn’t missed quite so much.
"That girl just owns you, heart and soul, doesn't she?" Camila laughed, bringing her rambling to a halt and Luz chuckled, cheeks pink, scratching the back of her head.
"Yeah." She can only nod in agreement, she couldn’t even think to deny it.
"As for her dress, you'll just have to wait and see, Mija."
"I'd rather wait till tonight anyway." Luz shrugged with a smile. "Are you ready to go?"
"Si, si, let's go, you need to start getting ready, your hair is a mess." Her mother fussed, trying to smooth her windswept locks.
"I'll fix it after I shower," Luz laughed, but resigned herself to letting her mother fuss over her.
When they returned to the Owl House Gus and Edric were waiting there, dressed in their matching dark blue dress shirts under black vests and coats. Luz is glad to see that Edric has shaved off his mustache. She didn’t mind it, but she knew Amity hated it and was threatening to ban him from all photos if he didn’t shave it off.
“You guys are early!” Luz smiled as they walked into the house. Camila greeted the boys before walking into the kitchen where the Clawthorne sisters were sitting at the kitchen table.
“Better early than late, right?” Edric grinned.
“Amity would kill you.” Luz grinned back.
“Too true, sis.” Edric nodded sagely, arms crossed over his chest.
“Are you excited?” Gus grinned gleefully at her, bouncing on his toes.
“Very, I gotta go shower and get dressed. You guys got everything else taken care of?”
“Everything is set up at the tree.” Gus nodded.
“We stopped by the school too, they have everything just about set up there too,” Edric gave her a thumbs up.
“Great, I’ll be back in a little bit!” she hurried up the stairs and the sound of the shower running followed.
Two hours to curtain time and everyone in the owl house was in the living room, waiting on Luz.
“Have you heard from the girls today?” Lilith looked at Edric who nodded.
“Em just messaged me that they’re leaving for the school now, so everything is on schedule,” he confirmed.
“Now if we can just get the other bride to get a move on,” Eda snorted, crossing her arms over her chest.
“She should be down any minute now,” Lilith replied.
As if summoned, a door closed upstairs and Luz thumped down the stairs.
“How do I look?” Luz asked nervously as she finally appeared from upstairs, making her family look up, and they went quiet.
Luz stood in front of them in her shiny dress shoes and white pants, her button-up shirt a vivid violet, tucked into her pants under the white vest and tie knotted smoothly against her neck. Her long hair combed back carefully, laying against her back atop the matching white, tailed coat.
She does a little spin and Camila is already tearing up as she looks at her, while her soon to be brother-in-law whistles.
“You look amazing, Luz!” Gus gushes.
“Sharp as ever, Kid.” Eda smiles at her softly from the couch.
“Amity will be smitten even further, if possible, the moment she lays eyes on you,” Lilith agreed with a nod and smile as Luz chuckled.
“Thanks, guys.” she fretted nervously with the buttons of her coat and smoothed the perfectly straight, bright white tie.
“Why all the white? No one here believes you're a virgin,” Eda cackled and Luz flushed brightly against the stark color. Camila shook her head, exasperated by the gray-haired witch. Edric wheezed at that while Gus just flushed.
“I just liked how it looked…,” she mumbled.
“You look wonderful, Mija,” Camila assured her, walking up to her smoothing her coat before cupping her cheeks in her hands. “¡Oh, mi bebé se va a casar!” Camila smooshed her cheeks as her eyes got misty.
“Mami, por favor…,” Luz begged, prying her mother’s hands off her cheeks.
“¡Amity es una chica muy afortunada!” Camila sniffled, making Luz smile.
“I think I’m the lucky one…,” Luz mumbled, grinning at her mother, who smiled at that.
“Yeah, yeah, you’re both very lucky, you can be sickeningly in love together for the rest of your lives,” Eda broke the moment with a grin. “Are we ready or what?”
“We got the rings?” Gus asked and King held up the two boxes in his clawed hands. “Do you have your vows?” he turned to Luz.
“Vows?” Luz repeated, blinking before she slaps her hands against her face. “...I forgot to write vows…,” she said quietly, staring wide-eyed into the air with horror, mouth hanging open and Eda starts to laugh uncontrollably, doubling over on the couch as Edric snorts, trying to choke back his laughter while Lilith sighs, shaking her head, fingers pressed to her temple.
“Luz…,” Gus sighed, pressing his hands to his face.
“Mija…” her mother is shaking her head tiredly.
“It’s okay! I got this, I am a master of improv!” she insists. “I mean, it’s basically just saying things I love about Amity, I can do that in my sleep!”
“She can, I’ve heard her yammering about her in her sleep.” King nodded, rolling his eyes.
“See?” Luz held her hands at the demon.
“I dunno if this is the best time to be practicing your improv, Luz,” Gus said, worried.
“Well we have to leave now, there’s no time to write any,” Lilith sighed.
“Ride with me kid, you can jot down some thoughts on the way over,” Eda said, finally standing, and wiping mirthful tears out of her eyes.
“I don’t need to write anything down, trust me, I got this!” Luz insists, hands on her hips.
“It’s your wedding/ funeral.” Eda shrugs and holds out her hand, something crashes in the bowels of the house before her staff flies into her hand. “Let’s get this matrimony show on the road!”
They pile out of the house into the front yard.
“Come on, Mami, you can ride with me,” Luz said as she hopped on her staff.
Camila nervously climbed on behind her and Luz grinned as she clung to her as they lifted off the ground.
Edric and Gus are already taking off on their own staves with Eda and Lilith behind them, Luz following along a little slower for her mother’s sake, who clings to her tightly.
“It's okay, Mami, I may never have learned to drive, but I am a master with a staff,” she promised.
Camila squeezed her tighter. Luz just smiled to herself and kept flying, slow and even toward the cliffside where they were getting married.
Amity and the rest of the girls were going to be at the school while Luz and the boys would go straight to the tree. The sun was starting to dip below the horizon, the moon already rising across the sky, and it’s blue hue was apparent to all, though it yet had no light of its own as the sun’s bright orange rays drowned it out as it dropped below the horizon line, casting bright oranges and pinks across the sky.
Luz smiled to herself as they approached, she could see the bright pink tree standing tall over the rest of the forest. When they touched down she grinned to herself, the tree was still in full bloom, even though its pink leaves and flowers were slowly falling from their branches with every stray gust of wind. Even better were the hundreds of little orbs of light floating in the air above them, lighting the area up with their gentle glow.
It was a simple set up, there was a long dark rug stretched from under the tree, back out into the forest toward the school, where a large curtain had been set up in the trees where Amity would appear later. The cliffs on the other side and several rows of white folding chairs on either side,
A few people had already arrived and were sitting around talking, including Bump, several of the council members, and some of her and Amity’s friends and old allies from the various covens.
It was happening here in just a scant hour. They were getting married.
Luz swallowed, suddenly feeling a little stiff as she looked around at everything. Was her tie too tight? She suddenly found it hard to breathe and wondered for a moment if her PTSD was choosing this moment to make the worst timed appearance of all time, but there’s no quiet buzzing under her skin or whispering in the back of her mind, it’s blissfully quiet, though she suddenly feels an anxiousness settle in the pit of her stomach. It feels different than the kind that usually accompanies one of those days.
She fidgeted with her sleeves, foot-tapping anxiously on the ground, drawing both her mothers’ gaze.
“Mija?” Camila looks at her, concerned.
“You okay, Kid?” Eda tilts her head.
“YEaH…” her voice cracked a little and she cleared her throat. “Yeah, I just…” She glanced around, unsure.
“Oh,” Eda smirked, seeming to catch on. “Finally getting cold feet?” she asked knowingly.
“What? No! I just… I dunno, I just feel so nervous all of a sudden.” she frowned.
“That’s perfectly normal, Luz.” Her mother laid a hand on her shoulder, squeezing gently. “This is a big step in your relationship with Amity, a lifelong commitment, It's natural to be nervous," she soothed.
"Yeah, you still wanna marry her right?" Eda slapped her hand atop Luz's other shoulder.
"Of course I do!" Luz nodded. "I guess it's just… it never felt like this day was ever actually going to get here… now it is and It's like I just did a milk shot. My stomach is all squirmy." She placed her hands over her stomach, frowning.
"I felt the same way before I married your Papi," Camila admitted and that made Luz's racing nerves screech to a grinding halt.
The most she knew about her dad was that he had died before she was born, her mother had never wanted to talk about it when she was a kid, always telling her that they would talk about it when she was older, but then she'd vanished for the last six years. It had never really bothered her, she'd just gotten used to functioning as though she didn't have a dad, since she actually never had, and she had being the school weirdo to contend with most of her first fourteen years.
"Huh?" Is all she can get her mouth to say as she looks at her mother.
Camila's smile is soft and sad. It had been over twenty years, but she still found it hard to talk about, she'd even gone as far as getting rid of all the photos, they had just been too painful to look at at the time and pictures of their daughter had taken up the spaces left empty on the walls shortly after.
Till Luz had vanished, then they too had been packed away, but she had gotten her baby back and more in the form of her soon to be daughter-in-law.
"We'll talk about it soon, I promise, Luz, but for now, trust me, this is normal and once you see Amity all those nerves will go away.” Camila smiled at her daughter.
“Yeah,” Eda threw in. “I’ve been watching you two be grossly in love for six years, you two are sickeningly perfect for each other.” She grinned, squeezing Luz’s shoulder.
Luz took a deep breath and tried to quell the flipping in her stomach.
“Right, I know… I should go... talk to some of the guests…,” she mumbled before walking over to the coven heads who were seated already.
“Hmm, we should keep an eye on her…” Eda set a fist on her hip and Camila nodded as they watched Luz chat with the group of witches.
~ ~
Amity took a deep breath as she stared at herself in the mirror, smoothing the imaginary wrinkles from her dress, her fingers brushing the brooch Luz had given her, pinned to the left of her chest, she never took it off. Just next to it, beneath the top of her dress was the power amulet Lilith had given her for her fifteenth birthday, she was never without that either, it had saved her life a few times during her many battles, and powered the final spell of the war.
Another pillar crashed to the floor, in the wake of Amity’s flaming abomination, set ablaze by Luz’s glyphs shoved inside of it and raising a cloud of dust and debris that stung her eyes as the two teenagers dived behind another pillar to catch their breath while the creature distracted the weakened Emperor.
The castle was shaking and trembling as witches fired off spell after spell in every hall and corridor in the place. Rebels and loyalists fighting bitterly everywhere, dust fell from the ceiling with the force of the magics that battered the walls and ceilings from every direction. Even the floor beneath their feet is a mass of broken and loose stone from the force of the attacks being flung about the room.
Amity hissed, looking down at her leg, blood was dripping down her calf and into her boot, but she didn’t have time for that, she could tend her injuries when Belos was dead.
“I’m nearly at my limit…,” Luz panted quietly, knees shaking and Amity sucked in a sharp breath at that.
Once, Luz had claimed that her glyphs didn’t suck up energy or make her tired the way Amity’s own spellcasting did. One thing the war had taught them was that that was horribly untrue. Luz had just never needed to expend that much energy on the small glyphs she usually used in day to day life to notice the drain. Hours or even days of endless fighting had proved that her form of magic did suck up her energy, till she could barely lift her head, an alarming thing they had discovered after the first few battles of the war. After that, Luz had to learn to better monitor and sparse out her magic, though it certainly made her a much shrewder and acute fighter.
Amity grit her teeth, she’s exhausted too. It had been a blow for blow firefight just to get them to this point, then just to weaken him enough that he could no longer meld into the floors and walls. She cursed under her breath, she knows she can’t do this alone, and the others are all fighting elsewhere, their next attack is going to be their last and they need to make it count, or every spilled drop of blood and snuffed out life will have been for nothing.
An explosion sends bits of singed abomination goo across the room, beyond its ability to reform. Their time is nearly up.
Her mind is a whirling mass of thoughts.
“Come out, children.” Belos’ low voice echoed in the cavernous room, but she can tell it’s strained. They’re not the only ones injured. Amity squeezed Luz’s arm, drawing exhausted brown eyes to her, allowing her to see the long cut, seeping blood on her cheek.
“I need you to hold on just a little longer, love. I have a plan.” Amity’s voice is a tight whisper in Luz’s ear and her white-knuckled grip on her staff tightens further as she jerks a nod.
“Tell me what you want me to do.”
Stone cracks behind the pillar and Belos turns to it, eyes blazing beneath his mask.
He rounds the pillar, staff raised above his head but an abomination lunges around him, covering him in its gelatinous body, and before he can move it glows blue and ice erupts across its gooey flesh, freezing solid around him; trapped.
The crackling of a portal, makes him turn his head as far as he can to see the two teenagers appear behind him.
Amity stood behind a trembling Luz as she held a fire glyph in front of her. Between the ice glyphs and the portal, Amity’s left arm wrapped tightly around her waist is all that keeps her standing, and sheer willpower is all that stands between Amity and passing out.
Amity reached around, power amulet in hand, and grabbed Luz’s trembling hand gripping the glyph card, the stone amulet pressed between their skin is warm, alive with magic she’s been storing for months and she wills the stored power free.
They were both enveloped in the bright magenta glow and then the glyph blazed to life and fire erupted like a volcano from it, the sweltering heat licks at their skin, and the thunderous sound of the roaring blaze pounds in their ears.
Their eyes slammed shut against the blinding, white-hot light. It seemed to drag on and on, before finally, the amulet’s power is expended and the flames faded to flickering embers, leaving them in the dimly lit room, blinking away the spots in their vision.
Luz panted, slipping to her knees, and Amity drops behind her, head on her shoulder and arms limp. They poured everything they had left into that one spell.
When her vision finally cleared, Amity, with great effort, lifted her head to find that where the Emperor had once stood is nothing more than a large, smeared, black stain against the singed stone wall. A pile of ash is all that remains, along with a half-melted, broken staff.
She waits, holding her breath, eyes flickering around the room, as if waiting for him to pop out of the shadows and finish them both, it would be easy, they’re boneless and have nothing left to give, but the longer they sit there on their knees, Luz’s ragged panting the only sound in the room, nothing happens. Her grip on Luz tightens and tears prick at the corner of her eyes.
“He’s ...dead…” her choked voice is foreign to her own ears, but it makes Luz lift her head and she looks at the smeared pile of ash that is all that remains of the once tyrant Emperor of The Boiling Isles.
“It's over…” her voice is barely a whisper and she’s so tired. She relaxes and her consciousness slips away, body slumping to the floor.
“Luz?… Luz!” Amity leans down, pressing a pointed ear to Luz’s back, and relaxes when she hears the steady rhythm beating inside her chest. It takes the last dregs of her strength to pull Luz’s limp body up so her head lays against her chest.
They stay there until the rest of the rebellion bursts into the throne room and finds them, both unconscious on the floor together.
She shook her head, casting away those thoughts, and drags her finger away from the amulet. She hasn’t had to use it since, but its presence is comforting. She knows the devastating power she can unleash with it.
A knock on the empty classroom door makes her jerk.
“Come in.” She glanced over her shoulder as her sister poked her head in the door and smiled as she looked at her sister in her dress, auburn hair done in perfect, bouncy curls, and her makeup done immaculately, if Emira did say so herself, she had done it after all.
“Hey sis, we got like, thirty minutes, you bout ready?”
Amity nodded, still fiddling with her clothes as Emira stepped into the room, closing the door behind her.
“Still nervous?” she smiled gently as she stood behind her and Amity looked at her in the reflection of the mirror.
“Actually, no. I was this morning, I thought I was going to throw up after breakfast but now I’m just… excited.” She smiled and Emira grinned at her and flicked a few of her curls with her finger.
“You should be, Ed was just here, apparently our new little sis looks sharp enough to cut. Said you better hold tight to your heart when you see her,” Emira laughed and Amity’s smile turned into a toothy grin. Luz was pretty content most of the time to just throw on something clean under her cloak, but Amity was intimately aware of her ability to turn the knob all the way to the max on her appearance when she wanted. More than once she had left Amity near speechless on special occasions, and as far as special occasions went, she couldn’t think of one Luz would put more effort into than their wedding.
“I’ll do my best,” Amity chuckled.
“Alright, we’ll be waiting out front when you’re ready.” She threw over her shoulder as she turned to go. Amity nodded and the door closed. She took another breath and picked up the bouquet of blood-blossoms sitting on one of the desks and smiled at them, running her fingers over the petals The flowers always made her think of Luz, being the same kind she had once put on her locker.
She’d been the first one to ever gift flowers to her.
Actually, Luz had been her first… well, everything. Crush, kiss, girlfriend, love.
She won’t say first wife, because that implied that she might have a second someday and Amity has no plans to ever let that happen, and maybe it’s naive, but she’s sure that she’s going to be with the human all the rest of her life.
They’ve known lots of other couples over the years and it always astounded both of them how some other couples could argue about things that could so easily be fixed if they just talked about it. Sure, they fight sometimes, but never for long and never anything like the screaming matches they’ve witnessed other couples have. Ugly, knock-down drag outs that leave someone in tears. The only times they’ve left the other in angry tears have been because the other did something dangerously stupid.
Usually, it was Amity, but after the battle at the knee, it had been Luz, who had screamed at her for fifteen minutes while sobbing. Maybe it wasn’t the smart thing to do, too so carelessly throw her life around, but she meant it and means it still. She would always put her life on the line for her and that argument was quickly ended by Amity telling her that she damn well would have done the same thing and she knew it, and her life was worth no more or less then Luz’s
That stopped the screaming, but it didn’t stop the tears, it took a while for those to stop.
It’s strange when she thinks about it, loving someone so wholly and fiercely that the threat of her own death seems like such a trivial thing in the face of losing her, that someone can make her feel so totally fearless in one moment and then terrified to breathe the next.
Amity huffs, smiling to herself. It sounds so sappy, like something straight out of the pair’s favorite book series, but she and Luz have a powerful bond, forged first out of love and affection, then the complete and total trust that could only come from being tempered with blood and the fires of war.
If Luz told her to jump off a cliff Amity knows she would do it because she trusts Luz above all else; she always had a plan.
Amity rolled her eyes at herself. She’s such a sap, not that Luz is any better, which makes her feel a little better.
Their friends are right.
They are gross.
There’s a knock on the door and Amity straightened.
“I’m coming, Em!”
The door opened but her sister didn’t say anything. Amity turned and stopped.
“Dad…,” she breathes as she stared back at her father, standing in the doorway.
Alador Blight smiled at her.
“May I come in?” he asked her.
“Of course!” she nods and he stepped into the room, closing the door behind him.
She can only stare at him as he crossed the room to stand in front of her, gold eyes aglow in the last bits of light coming in the classroom window, the sun has set, but a faint orange glow still rests on the horizon, slowly being overtaken by the blue glow of the bright, full, blue moon that is rising overhead.
“You look breath-taking, Amity.”
“Thank you, I’m glad you came.” she smiled at him, and she is. For all their disconnects over the years and her hurt feelings at his absence as a child, she can’t stop loving the man in front of her, and because she knows her dad loves her, he wouldn’t be here if he didn’t.
Alador’s smile fades at that.
“I apologize for not being able to send Thrasus to you sooner, I have been rather preoccupied with your mother.” Nothing about that surprised Amity, but his next words did. “Getting her to agree to unbind our eternal oath has been a tiresome affair.” His brows furrowed between his eyes, frown deepening.
“What?!” Amity blinks wildly at that, her eyes dart to her father’s left hand, and sees that he no longer wore the gold band that had sat on his finger since before she could remember.
Alador folded his hands behind his back and looked pensive.
“I loved your mother dearly once, but I have realized in recent years that I let that blind me to certain things that I should have seen, especially things concerning you and your siblings.” He looked so tired right now, the lines in his face are deep rivers around her mouth and beneath his eyes. “When you left Blight manor to live with Luz they suddenly became clear, and after questioning Edric and Emira, I’m ashamed to admit that I let so much get by me that should not have, and for that, I am truly sorry, Amity.”
Amity chewed her bottom lip. She wants to say it’s fine, but it isn’t and they both know it. Luz told her once that it was okay to not be okay, and she was right.
“Thank you.” Is what she settles on and Alador nods.
“I've spent the last three years trying to understand and find that woman I once know, but after you came to the Manor and told us about the wedding, I realized that she does not exist anymore.” He turned his head away and Amity can see the sorrow on his face. She reached out and took his hand, drawing his gaze back to her.
“It’s over between the two of you?” she questions and he nods.
“I’m sorry,” and she means that. She’s sorry her father is hurt.
“To be completely honest with you, I don’t think the woman I knew ever existed, I chose not to see. I’ve always known that your mother did not care for me the same way I cared for her, but I hoped it was more than I thought. I could have spared myself twenty-five years of wasted time had I been willing to accept that when I was young, I did not, but despite that, I can’t find it in myself to regret all that time.”
“How can you not regret wasting half your life on someone you know didn’t love you back?” Amity can’t understand that at all.
Alador only chuckled at that as he looked at her, gold eyes the same shade as her own staring back at her. He turned his hand over to hold her, dwarfed in his much larger one as he held her hand between both of his.
“Because what I got was worth much more.”
Amity fully anticipated she would cry today, expected it, but not before the wedding even started.
Alador tuts and pulls the kerchief from his breast pocket and dabs at her wet eyes.
“There is no time for that, Amity. If you’re going to cry, then save those tears for Luz.”
She laughs, despite herself and nods, willing back the water.
“I’m glad to know that you won’t face a similar problem in the future”
“How can you know that?” she asked, she knows it’s true, she does, if there is one thing in life she doesn’t doubt, it’s Luz.
“I’ve seen the way that woman looks at you enough times to know that she cares for you just as dearly as you do for her,” Is her dad’s simple answer. “I’m sure you’ll be quite preoccupied after the ceremony, so I came to tell you that I’m proud of you, Amity, you’ve proven yourself to be so much stronger than I could have ever hoped.”
Amity just smiles and Alador pulled his pocket watch from his pocket and popped open the face.
“I believe it’s time for you to go, my dear.” He smiled and Amity nodded. He turned and started for the door.
“Dad…,” Amity called and he stopped, turning to look at her over his shoulder. She hesitates for a moment but carries on. “Would you walk me down the aisle?”
His eyes widened at that and he turned to face her completely.
He looks like he wants to question her, she can see the jump in his jaw, through his mouth never opens to voice any of them.
“Yes,” he finally said and Amity smiled, and walked up to him, slipping her arm through his.
“Then we better go.”
He nods, and they leave the school.

Moonlit Masquerade: Moonlit Forever After Pt 1
Finale and Part 15 of the Moonlit Masquerade Series
Luz woke slowly, bright sunlight shining on her face from the opened, stained glass window. She grumbled to herself, scrunching her face before turning over to snuggle into Amity. She frowned to herself when she found no warm fiancée and reached out, hand sliding across the sheets, searching, but found them empty and cold, she frowned before peeling an eye open to find the other side of the bed empty, devoid of Amity.
“Oh, right…,” she mumbled groggily and frowning. Amity had stayed with Willow last night so they wouldn’t see each other till tonight at the wedding. She grumbled and let her eye slide back closed, almost falling back asleep.
Her eyes popped open, grogginess falling away as she sat up in bed.
The Wedding!
Today is her wedding day!
She jumped out of bed and dressed quickly. Once she’s finished she stops and looks around at what has been her bedroom for the last three years, then her and Amity’s for three more. The room is barren save for the bed, her things for the ceremony, and some boxes sitting on the floor, they have already packed up all their things over the last week and moved most of it into the new house sitting just a short walk away. They decided to wait until after the wedding to move in, even though the house has been finished for over a month. Neither could bear to leave the owl house yet, knowing the time would come soon enough, and now it was here. She looks around at the bare walls a little sadly. It feels so final, even though she knows she will be back in this house many, many times from this day forward, even if it won’t be her house anymore, the Owl House will always be home. She carefully makes the bed for the last time before taking a deep breath and smiles as she walks out, passing the clothes hung up on the closet door in their garment bag, she wouldn’t get dressed in those till the last minute before leaving the house. She took the stairs two at a time before sliding into the kitchen.
“Buenos dia, mi familia!” Luz grinned brightly at Eda, Lilith, and King, sitting at the kitchen table. “Today is the day!” she declared as the Clawthorne sisters smiled back at her.
“Excited?” Lilith asked with a grin.
“Terrified actually, but also excited, yes.” she grinned, grabbing some apple blood out of the fridge before sitting down with them.
“Last chance to back out and run away to the knee and start life as a hermit,” Eda said with a grin that spoke of her teasing.
“Not on your life.” Luz grinned making Eda chuckle.
“Just checking.” Eda smiled at her fondly from across the table and Luz smiled back, looking around at them and knowing that there will be many more days like this again, but they will never be quite the same as this one. It’s sad even as it’s exciting, starting a whole new chapter of her life, with Amity as her wife.
“I’m kinda nervous just thinking about it, this time tomorrow I’ll be Luz… well, still Luz Noceda, but you know,” Luz chuckled.
“You’ll be Mrs. Luz Noceda, married to Mrs. Amity Noceda,” Lilith supplied, nodding and Luz’s stomach erupted in butterflies at that, the same way it did every time someone said it.
Amity Noceda
She grins stupidly to herself at the thought and Lilith and Eda share an amused look.
King sniffles, looking up at her from his breakfast.
“Do you have to go?” he blinks up at her with wide eyes and Luz smiled at him, picking him up and squeezing him gently, he lets her, squeezing back, burying his face in her chest.
“Yes, King, I do, but it’s okay. You can always come over to our house, and I’ll still be here all the time, me and Amity,” she assured the little demon, squeezing.
“It’s quite sad in a way.” Lilith smiled at her forlornly. “The end of an era, it won’t be us sitting here having meals as a family anymore.”
“It won’t be exactly the same,” Luz agrees. “But Amity and I will come over often, you can bet on it.” She set the demon down in his chair and he sniffles but nods. “You’re still gonna be my ring bearer tonight, right, boo-boo buddy?” Luz asks him and he jumps back up, nodding.
“No one will bear those rings better than the King of Demons!” he declares, clawed fist raised in the air, and luz smiles at him.
“I don’t doubt it.”
“You and Amity might be the Noceda’s after tonight, but you’ll both always be Clawthorne’s” Eda declared and Lilith nodded in agreement. Luz smiled at them, truly touched by that.
“I could probably convince Amity to let us be the Noceda-Clawthorne’s.” She grinned.
“Aw, that’s too much of a mouthful, Kid, but I appreciate it.” Eda smiled at her.
They eat breakfast in comfortable silence, pancakes, and enjoy this last breakfast that is not the last, but it’s the last one that will ever be like this again.
Luz pulls out her scroll and taps Amity’s contact and types out a quick message.
‘Good morning, my soon to be wife! Can’t wait to see you, mi amor. <3’
She slipped it back into her pocket and looked up at everyone.
“Welp, the caterers, and stuff are in charge of getting everything set up tonight for the reception at the school, and the rest of the wedding party promised to get the chairs and stuff put up at the tree, so I guess I have a while to kill before I have to go pick up Mami. You guys wanna do something? One last unmarried, family hoorah?” she looked around the table.
Eda and Lilith looked at each other curiously before a grin broke out across both their faces.
Luz blinked.
~ ~ Amity yawned as she slowly rolled over in bed, immediately reaching for the warm body she’s so used to and is disappointed when she finds only cold sheets. Her eyes slide open and she’s met with an unfamiliar room and remembers she’s at Willow’s place, while Luz had stayed at home to spend a final day as a resident of the owl house with the others before tonight. She frowns, sitting up, it was strange, sleeping alone after almost never doing so for the last three years. Even during the war when they were out in the field they would curl up together in a tent or even on the ground to rest. Not waking up with Luz’s gentle breath in her ear or her arm wrapped around her; she doesn’t like it. Though she knows that after today it won’t happen again.
She slid out of bed and got dressed, passing her dress bag hanging on the wall as she walked out into the living room, checking her scroll, and seeing Luz's message. She smiled to herself and tapped out one back.
'I can't wait to see you either, querida. Xoxo'
Willow, Viney, and her sister were standing around the kitchen when she walked in.
"There's one of the brides to be!" Emira grinned.
“Hey!” Willow looked up from the stove, smiling.
“Mornin’.” Viney nodded with a smile.
“Good morning.” She smiled at them as she sat at the table.
“Are you ready for tonight?” Viney asked.
“Yes ...and no,” she sighed, running her hands through her loose auburn hair. “I’m nervous, but excited too…,” she mumbled and Viney chuckled as Willow and Emira set plates on the table and they all sat to eat.
“Nervous? You're marrying the biggest dork in the Boiling Isles,” Emira snorted. “Granted, an incredibly brave, sweet, and powerful dork, but a dork nonetheless.”
“Maybe, but I love that, sweet, brave dork.” Amity smiled to herself as the others grinned. “I want tonight to be… and I hate this word; perfect,” Amity hummed, playing with her eggs.
“I’m sure that no matter what happens it will be perfect.” Willow smiled at her.
“Even if something blows up, it’ll still be perfect for you two, cause at the end of the night, come hell or high water, you’re gonna be married,” Viney agreed.
“And let’s be real, it’s Luz, so the chances of an explosion are not as low as we might hope,” Emira laughed.
“Don’t say that…,” Amity moaned as they laughed.
“Did you ever finish writing your vows?” Willow asks as they eat.
“Ah, yes!” She jumped up and hurried into Willow’s guest room before coming back with a stack of paper. She set it and her pen on the table and the other three looked at it questioningly. Emira set her fork down and reached over to pick up the hefty stack of papers and flipped through it, eyebrows drawn between her eyes as she read some, flipping through the many pages covered in her sisters neat, sloping penmanship before she finally looked up at Amity, who was flushed. She knows what’s coming. She went overboard, she knows.
“These are your vows?” Emira blinked holding up the literal sheath of paper.
“Yes…” her cheeks darkened.
Emira, Viney, and Willow share a look.
“It’s an essay…” Viney cocks a brow.
“This is a book…,” Willow says, failing to hide her amusement.
“Mittens… you’ve written a manifesto of your love for Luz…,” she says, flipping through the pages with a laugh.
“I got going and then found I had a lot to say…,” Amity mumbled, face hot.
“Obviously,” Viney barked a laugh.
“I’m sure everything in here is super sweet and cute, sis, but we don’t have all night for you to harangue about why Luz is the most thoughtful and wonderful person who ever lived in any realm.” Emira grinned knowingly at her making Viney laugh harder and Willow coughed, unconvincingly into her hand.
“I know…,” Amity whined, resting her head in her hands. “I can’t figure out how to cut it down…,” she mumbled.
“Let’s try this…” Emira took a blank piece of paper from the bottom and ripped it in half and slid it across to Amity. “Only what you can fit on this,” she said.
“That’s not nearly enough space…” Amity frowned looking down at the half sheet of paper.
“It is, only the really important things, the things you really want to tell her tonight. It should fit on this slip of paper perfectly,” Willow agrees.
“Yeah, you have the rest of your life to wax poetic to her about why she’s the best thing since sliced bramble wheat bread.” Emira nodded. “And if you actually want to be married before tomorrow morning, you need to cut it down.” she smirked as Amity scowled at her.
“I have thirty snails that say Luz forgot to write vows,” Viney piped up over her toast.
“I’m not taking that bet,” Willow smirked, if there’s anyone who knows Luz nearly as well as Amity, it’s Willow.
“I will, my dear sister-in-law can be just as sappy as Mittens.” Emira grinned and Amity frowned at the couple as they shook hands.
Luz would never..., that's what she wants to say, but Amity knows Luz, knows she can be as unpredictable as the ocean. Whether or not she remembered to write her vows is a toss-up, yet Amity can't find it in herself to be annoyed by this, it was all part of Luz's charm. She wrote as much on page five of her own vows.
"So!" Emira starts, pushing the slip of paper and pen toward her. "What do you really, really want to tell Luz tonight when you promise to be her partner in love, insanity, and anarchy for the rest of your lives?" Her sister asks with a grin and Amity chewed her bottom lip and picks up the pen, but she doesn't hesitate, the words come easy, and before she knows it the paper is filled. She reads it over a few times before sliding it back across the table to the other three.
Emira picks it up and the other two look over her shoulders as they read. Emira bites her lip as her eyes glaze over. Viney's mouth hangs open and Willow just smiles and they all look up at her.
"Well damn…," Emira says thickly at last.
~ ~
“Faster, faster!” King squealed from Luz’s shoulders as they sped through the air on her staff.
“Whoo!” Luz whooped as she dived past Eda and Lilith on their own staves. “I know you two are faster than that or are you that old now?” she goads as she and King fly past the sisters. “So much for the ‘Mighty Clawthorne sisters’,” she laughed and King cackled.
“Oh, those are fightin’ words!” Eda shook a fist as she took off with a wicked grin, gaining on Luz. Lilith hot on her heels, scowling as they zipped between the bones of the Isles.
Luz laughed as she flew through the air, barrel rowling and flipping as Eda and Lilith chased her, their laughter echoing through the air as they chased each other through the sky.
Eda and Lilith pulled to a stop next to each other, hanging in the air and laughing as they watched Luz shoot straight up into the sky.
“There she goes.” Eda grinned, pulling out her scroll and tapping the record button, as she held it up.
“What are you doing?” Lilith cocked a brow at her sister.
“Nothing…,” Eda said far too innocently.
Luz pulled her staff straight up, rising higher and higher and higher into the sky, wind whipping at her face and hair., the Isles growing smaller and smaller as she climbed into the open blue sky.
“Ready, Buddy?” Luz grinned as the air thinned around them.
“I’m the King of Demons, I was born ready!” King screeched, hunkering his body against her back, claws dug into her shirt.
Luz allowed the magic of her staff to fade and she slowed as gravity’s grip took hold and pulled her back toward the ground. She let herself go limp, save her grip on her staff, and started to fall, she let it drag her for a second before flinging herself into a few spins and flips
King’s exhilarated scream is swallowed up by the howling winds as she righted herself and held her arms out, whizzing toward the ground nose first and closed her eyes, feeling the cold wind whip at her face and clothes.
At this moment, as she plummeted back toward the earth, she can only think about how incredibly lucky she is that she chased Owlbert through the portal door six years ago.
There were moments that weren't so magical, naturally.
Sometimes she and Amity fought, argued over stupid things and frustrated each other, or she’d have bitter disagreements with members of the covens about the politics of the Isles and how things should be under the new order, and sometimes, even though she tried to avoid it, and though not often, she would still get anti-human rhetoric from some witches and demons.
There had also been the truly dark days of course.
She’d hurt her mother, she knows and feels guilty about it, because as much as she wishes she hadn’t, and that she wanted to take that pain away, she knows that she wouldn’t change the past, and that eats at her some nights, the whispering of selfishness in the back of her mind, but she’s seen and lived through enough things to know that there's no point living a life of regret; it changes nothing.
Lilith had kidnapped her, tried to kill her, and captured Eda, making her lose her magic and she’d destroyed the portal trying to right her wrong and save her mentor.
Eda and Lilith lost their magic, which took them a long time to come to grips with. Sometimes they had been bitter and angry about it, and Luz tried her best to help them adjust in those first few years, showing them how to do things the non-magic way, or the human way as she called it, to make it seem a little less dreary; having their staffs helped.
Then the war had come and they had killed and struggled to survive for two years, feeling like the fighting would never end. Blood and fire had drowned the Isles in so much red Luz still saw it in her nightmares. At times she could still feel the dried, flaking liquid under her fingernails and smell the metallic tinge in the air mixed with smoke and ash that choked her on the days her PTSD reared its ugly head.
As dark as those days had been, they are shadows in her memories, drowned out by the bright light of the last six years spent on the Isles and they are the farthest thing from her mind today.
She met Eda and King, started learning magic, then she met two incredible, lifelong friends, she knew would always be by her side in the form of Willow and Gus, among the others she knew she could call on anytime, day or night and they would come running.
She’d fought a war and changed The Boiling Isles forever, for better or for worse.
She’d met her best friend and fallen head over heels in love with her. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do for Amity, and she knows she is loved back just as fiercely, even when they argue, they always make up quickly, they learned long ago to just talk it out.
After fourteen years of feeling like she was an outsider looking in, a character in the wrong play, trying desperately to blend into the scenery; she had finally found the place where she belonged.
She feels weightless.
“Luz!” King shrieks in her ear.
She smiled, opening her eyes as the ground was rushing up to meet them.
She twirled her staff beneath her, feet planted on it and with one hand she jerked upward, pulling them out of their free fall, arcing out of the dive a scant fifteen feet from the ground and Mochuelo’s wings flap as they soar back into the sky toward Eda and Lilith with loud whoops of joy.
“I’ve never felt so alive!” King is squeaking, breathless.
“Nice, Luz,” Eda laughed, tapping a few buttons on her scroll before slipping it back into her hair.
“Quite the graceful maneuvering.” Lilith smiled and Luz only grinned, planting herself back down on the staff.
They hang around, drifting lazily through the air and enjoying the scene of the Isles sprawled out beneath them in all its glory. The bones of the Titan laying still and quiet in eternal slumber, belying the constant hustle and bustle far below. The sun has moved to the western side of the sky and Luz knows that she needs to go pick up her mother. More than half the day has slipped through their fingers, having felt more like only a couple of hours then the closer to six or seven it’s been.
“I need to get Mami,” she finally announces and they know it’s time to go home.
“Right, we gotta get ready too, especially Lily since she officiating the whole shebang.”
Lilith nods and they fly back toward the owl house.
~
Amity and the other girls spend the day primping to the extreme at Emira's insistence.
She would be fine just sitting at Willow's house and hanging out as they prepped but she gives in quickly when Emira offers to pay for all of them, her wedding gift to her sister, who can’t refuse her gift.
The Boiling Isles version of a spa is very similar to the ones in the human world according to Luz, though she admits she’d only ever seen them in shows, she’d only been fourteen when she’d come to the Isles so she’d never actually been to one, but she said the ones in the Isles were pretty similar to what she’d seen, with a few key differences. Such as massages being given by multi-tentacled demons, which was where Emira and Viney had gone, but she digressed.
“This was really nice of your sister,” Willow hummed, sinking further down into the warmth of the hot tub.
“It really was, even if it was unnecessary…,” she agreed.
“Speak for yourself.” Willow looked at her and Amity laughed.
“Has helping with the wedding been that taxing?” Amity cocked her head and grinning.
“No, not that, recently I’ve been getting a visitor to my shop…,” Willow mumbled.
Amity looked at her questioningly.
“Boscha,” Willow grumbled out a name that had caused her nothing but dread during their Hexside years.
"Boscha!?” Amity jerked up. “I haven’t thought about her in a long time… she’s been to your shop?” Willow nodded. “She hasn't been bothering you or anything has she?” Amity frowned and Willow barks a laugh.
“As if she could,” Willow smirked and it’s well deserved. Amity had watched her childhood friend take out scores of loyalists over the two years the war had raged. Last she had heard Boscha’s family had sequestered her away from all the fighting, choosing neutrality. Cowardice, Amity called it, but the result was the same, Boscha was a gnat on the wall compared to Willow.
“So what does she want?”
Willow sighed.
“She comes in twice a week, tries to make small talk with me, buys some flowers or plants and leaves,” she said. “… she apologized, for all the things she did to me when we were kids, and wants to make amends for our school years.”
Amity doesn't know what to say to that.
“She seems different… but I don’t know, after all the things she did to all of us, it’s hard to brush that aside even if she really is different. Hell, she almost destroyed you and Luz.”
“It did end up working out for the best in the end, Luz and I would never have had the courage to be public with our relationship if we hadn’t been forced into the light like that; we were too afraid.”
“You’re condoning what she did?” Willow asks incredulously.
“Absolutely not, I’m just saying that it happened and it ended up working out in our favor, nothing more.” Amity shook her head.
“I don’t know, I’ll think about it.” Willow hummed.
“How’s the water, girls?” they looked up as Emira and Viney walked over.
“Great, how was your massage?” Amity asked.
“Great, I don't know what Luz is talking about, you just can’t give a good massage if you only have two arms.” Emira shook her head as they slipped in beside the other two.
They sat chatting a while before Willow’s scroll dinged and she sat up out of the water and drew a spell circle, the device popping into existence.
“Oh, Eda sent me something…” she tapped the video and watched, the only sound coming from the scroll was the sound of static and wind but a grin was breaking out across Willow’s face.
“What, what did she send you?” Amity asked.
“I don’t know if I can show you, you’re not supposed to see Luz until tonight.” Willow hummed, her grin was teasing, and to say Amity’s interest was piqued was an understatement.
“I think that only counts for in person, I mean, her scroll background is a picture of the two of them together after all,” Emira hummed.
“Checks out,” Viney nodded in agreement.
Willow turned the scroll around to show them the video from Eda of Luz on her staff, climbing higher and higher into the sky, King on her back.
“Oh, we’ve done this before!” Viney said.
“What is she doing?” Emira asks.
“It’s called free falling, watch.”
Finally, Luz reaches the apex of her climb, and then she’s falling and Amity’s chest lurches automatically but relaxes as she watches her fiancee's bright grin as she spins and flips through the air before just letting herself bolt rapidly toward the ground, past the camera, looking serene and at peace.
‘Is she going to splatter?’ Eda’s voice comes out over the speaker and they hear Lilith grumble in reply.
‘Amity would kill us both…’
That makes them laugh.
Finally, just before she meets the ground, Luz pulls her feet atop the staff and pulls up in a graceful arch, flying back toward Eda as she and King whoop with excitement, and then the video ends.
“She is a riot…” Emira smirked.
“Luz in a nutshell,” Willow laughs and Viney nods.
Amity just smiles to herself.
Titan, does she love that crazy woman.
When they get back to Willow’s they start getting dressed
Amity tried hard to follow Luz’s advice and not be so controlling about the things that didn’t matter and let her three bridesmaids pick their own outfits for the evening, though she is secretly glad that the three seem to have at least coordinated with each other and are wearing the same burgundy colored dress, much darker than her own, but in the same family, so she’s happy. She wonders, not for the first time that day, what Luz and the boys picked out.
“Have any of you seen what Luz and the boys are wearing? I don’t want to know what, I'm just curious.” They all looked at each other and shook their heads.
“I doubt they coordinated with each other.” Willow planted a hand on her hip and sighed.
“Well, this could be interesting…” Viney grinned, combing out her hair.
“So long as my future wife is not dressed as a werewolf, it’s fine,” Amity hummed to herself as she curled her hair into loose ringlets, making the others laugh.
“I’m surprised you got Bump to let you have the reception at Hexside,” Emira says.
“Really?” Willow looks at the older woman amused. “Amity and Luz were both top of their tracks, and became the two most famous witches of the war, especially after they killed Belos, they’re legendary Hexside Alumni, it’s great press for the school, being able to say they got married there.”
“We're not getting married there, we’re just having the after-party there,” Amity reminded. “And he offered it to us when we invited him.”
“Wha- really?” Emira laughed. “I shouldn’t be surprised really, you were always a teacher’s pet,” Emira teased and Amity huffed.
“I’d also remind you that Hieronymus Bump was a member of the rebellion and Luz and I fought side by side with him on many occasions, he even saved Luz’s life once. We wanted to invite him, he was our headmaster as kids, but he’s our friend now.”
“Sometimes forgot how powerful old Bump really is,” Viney added her two cents. “Still, nice of him to let you use the school courtyard, especially since it’s so close to the grom tree.”
They chatted about their old headmaster and school as they went about getting ready.

Moonlit Masquerade: Read All About It! Pt 2
Luz sleeps only because she cried herself to complete exhaustion the night before.
She wakes up slowly. Her whole body is tired. She manages to push herself up, blinking away the remnants Knowing of sleep, and looks around. She's still wearing her school clothes. Eda probably carried her up here after she passed out. She'd cried in Eda's arm till she fell asleep, never making it out of the living room.
She looks at the window, the sun hasn't risen yet, casting her room in a cool gray-blue of predawn. She needs to get ready for school, but she knows that she has to talk to Eda first. Everyone is probably wondering just what all that was last night.
She climbs out of bed sluggishly and straightens out her uniform, and brushes her hair into some form of compliance before leaving her room and walking quietly down the stairs.
The living room is empty, but there are sounds coming from the kitchen, the clatter of plates, and silverware, and she can smell something delicious being cooked. Pancakes?
She walks in to find Lilith and King sitting at the table, the former sipping on her customary cup of breakfast tea, and the latter, gnawing hungrily on a fork.
King notices her first.
"Luz!" He drops the fork and jumps down from his chair, and scampers up to her, wrapping his arms around one of her legs and looking up at her worried. “Are you okay?”
Luz looks down at him and picks him up, kissing his furry cheek.
"I… don't really know how to answer that…," she says and King lets out a whine, nuzzling closer to her, which makes her smile a little.
"How ya feeling, kid?" She looks up at Eda as she walks over, and she shrugs.
"I… don't know," she admits.
"You wanna tell us what happened now?" she asks softly.
Luz sighs, but nods and Eda leads her to her customary spot at the table and they sit. Luz tells them about the events of yesterday. A variety of emotions filter across both Clawthorne sister’s faces as she recounts the day before Eda’s finally settles on rage.
"That rotten little bit-"
"Edalyn!" Lilith scolds before turning back to Luz. "I'm sorry you both had to go through that, Luz." Lilith frowned.
"So now you're just… waiting?" Eda asks and Luz nods. The older witch sighs. "I'm sorry, Luz." Eda laid a hand on her shoulder and squeezed.
"Thanks…," she mumbles.
"Chin up, kiddo. We'll deal with it as it comes. For now, how bout pancakes?" She smiles and Luz realizes that she's absolutely starving. She hasn't eaten since breakfast this time yesterday.
"Please," she moans. Eda grins and stands to grab Luz a tall stack of pancakes.
She wolfs it down in record time to fill her empty belly that’s eating itself and when all that remains on her plate is a puddle of syrup, she sighs contently, satisfied.
"Thanks, mom," she says as she stands to leave.
"Have a good day, Luz," Lilith says as she grabs her bag and makes for the door.
"Thanks, and you're right." She turns to Eda, who cocks a brow at her. "Boscha is a bitch," she says and runs for the door. "I love you guys, bye!" She bolts out the front door and heads for school leaving Eda cackling behind her. Lilith rolls her eyes at them. In another universe, Luz was definitely Eda's.
When her laughter fades away Eda's face grows more somber and she sits in Luz's empty seat across from Lilith, looking at her seriously. Lilith looks back at her, waiting, as she takes a sip from her cup.
"Theoretically…," she starts, tapping her long nails on the table. "We could just... kill this girl and dump her body in a river, right?" she asks nonchalantly.
Lilith looks at her over the rim of her cup for a long minute before she takes another long sip.
"Theoretically…" she agrees and sets her cup on the back on the table with a quiet clink. “But it would be easily discoverable in the river… burning on the other hand…”
~
Luz isn't surprised when she arrives at school and more people than usual look her way when she passes them.
She doesn't care about them though. Her only worry is about Amity and her parents. In the human world, she was used to people whispering behind her back or looking at her strangely. It's gotten easy for her to ignore.
Her friends and Amity are waiting out front, near the stairs.
Luz runs up to them.
"Hey, guys," she greets and it's noticeably more subdued than most mornings.
"Hey, Luz." They smile at her and if it's a little sad, she doesn't say anything. They too have noticed the looks their group is getting from other students. Amity is the only one who seems a little shaken up by it, shoulders tensing every time other students walk by into the building past them and their gaze lingers before they start whispering to themselves. It stabs at Luz’s chest, as well as the exhausted look on her girlfriend’s face.
She grabs Amity's hand and squeezes.
Amity blinks at her, surprised, but then she squeezes back. Everyone already knows, they have no reason to hide it anymore.
"Anything happen last night?" she asks quietly and Amity shakes her head, leaning her shoulder against hers.
"I don't think they've heard yet…" she frowns. Luz hums.
“There’s no point in worrying about it till something actually happens.” Willow reasons. It hurts her to see the two so solemn.
“Yeah, try not to worry about it for now,” Gus agrees.
“They're right.” Luz looks at Amity and she nods tiredly.
“Right…,” she mumbles, leaning her head on her shoulder, but their friends' words don’t bring her any comfort and Luz knows it, they don’t help her much either, but she appreciates the effort. She presses a kiss to green hair.
“Try not to worry, mi amor,” she says and Amity nods.
The bell screams soon enough and they have to all make their way to class.
They meet up again at lunch and it feels like everyone’s eyes are on her as Amity walks into the cafeteria with her lunch. She sees the table in the back where Luz and their friends are sitting and quickly makes her way over, she doesn’t look at anyone and tries to block out all the quiet whispering that she knows, without even having to hear, is about her.
She quickly sits down next to Luz. They try to just have a normal lunch, but Amity feels like she’s crawling in her skin with all the attention centered on her. She glances at Luz, who doesn’t seem at all bothered by it. She wishes she could do that, but between the gossiping and the looks in her so far today in class and just passing in the halls, not to mention the threat of when, not if her parents are going to find out, looming over her head, she just feels like tightly wound spring, looking to release all the tight energy spiraled up inside her.
Luz looks up at Amity to see her staring intently down at her uneaten food with a pensive face and frowns.
"When was the last time you ate?" Luz whispers, jolting her out of her thoughts as she turns to look at her. It takes her long enough to answer that Luz knows that the answer is probably sometime yesterday.
"I'm not hungry," she finally mumbles, still picking at her food.
"I know… but please, eat something. For me?" Luz tries. Amity looks at her and the meaning is clear.
'that's not fair'
Luz smiles at that and Amity sighs and finally takes a bite.
It tastes like sawdust in her mouth but she eats it all anyway, for Luz, and maybe she does feel a little better with her belly full, but she's not going to say so. Luz looks happy about it though, and that's good enough for her.
What does lift her spirits are when a surprised shriek fills the cafeteria, and from where they're sitting they can see Boscha, jump up from her table, covered in her own lunch.
As she does, more food flies from several more directions, pelting her in the back and the face.
The whole cafeteria erupts into laughter as she wipes the green goo out of her eyes, especially as yet more food flies through the air to hit her from several directions and she runs out with her group of cronies behind her and screaming with rage.
Gus snickers to himself and they look at him.
"What was that about?" Willow blinks, and he grins.
"The illusion track," is the answer.
"Whaddaya mean?" Luz asks.
"Ed and Em rallied the illusion track students this morning to play pranks on Boscha. They've actually become really popular since they stopped all the mean jokes, not that it was hard to convince anyone, no one really likes Boscha," he explains. "Oh, you guys missed it this morning, but someone magiced her locker to explode trash slug slime on her when she opened it!" he laughs.
Luz and Willow grin at that and Amity smiled.
Her brother and sister are too much sometimes, and she loves them.
With the distraction of Boscha's drive-thru lunch, no one seems to be looking at them anymore and Luz throws her arm over Amity's shoulders, tugging her close. The human grins at her and Amity feels herself relax some.
Maybe the threat of her parents is still looming over her, but for now, here with her friends, knowing her siblings have her back and saddled up close to the girl she loves, she's happy.
The rest of the day goes by quickly. Thursday and Friday are easier, after  Wednesday the luster of their secret has already worn off and people are more distracted by the constant pranks being played on Boscha by the illusion track. Her locker has been filled with all sorts of gross and disturbing things between every passing period and something always goes awry at lunch.
Ed and Em deny ever doing a single thing to the girl when Luz asks them, but the devious looks on their face tell another story altogether.
It seems being one of the top students in the beast keeping track gives Viney some pull too if the griffin excrement in Boscha's locker or the baby chupacabra she finds in her bag during potions Friday morning are anything to go by.
Not to mention that Luz is well-liked by most of her classmates in all her tracks, and it doesn't take long for word to spread to the other tracks about what's going on and they soon join and collaborate with each other. There are a few people at Hexside Boscha hasn't bullied or demeaned, so no one blinks an eye at the potions slipped into her lunch that have… less than favorable effects or the sound effects the bard track adds whenever something bad happens to her. The members of the healing track are always curiously absent as well from the medical wing whenever Boscha has to go see them, for chupacabra bites or the like.
After school Friday they tell Eda and Lilith about the potion someone must have slipped her that made her break out in a full-body rash. Eda, as the chaotic witch she is, is delighted by it and even Lilith grins, though she tries to hide it behind her teacup.
They go upstairs Luz jumps on her bed with a tired sigh, Amity makes an agreeing noise as she plops down next to her, letting Luz curl up around her tiredly. She smiles to herself and runs her fingers through her girlfriend's soft, dark locks, they hang down the back of her neck now and her bangs droop around her eyebrows. Amity thinks it's a cute look, and while she of course isn't forbidding Luz from cutting her hair if she wants, when asked her opinion, she simply says she likes it how it is, which is enough to keep Luz from cutting it. She needs to cut her own soon, her roots are showing again, much to Luz's delight.
Luz hums contently in her grip and they just lay there.
"Hey," Luz starts after a while.
"Hmm?" Amity's eyes are closed, face buried in the warm girl's neck.
"I've been thinking… about switching to all potions track…," she finally says.
Amity's eyes snap open at that and she leans back to look at Luz. The surprise is clear in her wide eyes.
"What, really?" Is all she can ask and Luz nods.
"My potions teacher thinks I could go really far if I took potions more than once a week," she says.
"I'm sure you could, you're already the top student after all… but you love taking all the tracks." She frowns, brows furrowing between her eyes.
"Yeah, I do, but focusing on the thing I'm really good at seems like the more… responsible thing to do…," she says and now Amity knows something is up, and she has a pretty good idea of what it might be.
"Luz, does this have anything to do with my parents?" she asks and Luz frowns, eyes glancing away and Amity knows for certain now.
"I mean… they don't really like the multitrack thing right? Besides, I'm good at potions, maybe they wouldn't mind us being together if I was just the top student in the potions track only," she reasons, looking back at her again and Amity frowns. "I just don't want to lose you…," she mumbles under her breath. There's a pain In her heart at those words, that strikes Amity like a hot coal, her burns, hot in her chest
"Luz… no," she starts, pulling her hands away from the back of Luz's neck to cup her face, thumbs running across her warm cheeks. "I don't want to lose you either, but I also want you just as you are, I don't want you to change to try and please my parents, I do enough of that for the both of us already…" she says quietly. "If you want to take all potions, then do it because that's what you want to do, not for me, and especially not because of my parents. I love you just the way you are, querida." She presses her forehead against Luz's, who smiles, reaching up to hold the hands pressed to her face.
"I love you too," she says, leaning in to close the small distance between them with a firm kiss.
"You two are gross…" they both jump at the voice and turn to see King standing in the doorway, with his arms crossed.
"Probably," Luz grins, tightening her grip on Amity. "Did you want to come snuggle with us, King?" She asks in that baby tone.
"No!" he squeals.
"Good, more for me." Amity huffs, wrapping her arms back around Luz's neck, but is smirking to herself, face hidden in her girlfriend's neck. Luz grins, knowing what she's doing, and cuddles closer.
King lasts all of thirty seconds before he screeches and runs over, scrambling up the side of the bed to wedge his way between them.
"King demands cuddles!" He shouts as they laugh and squeeze him between them. Once he's settled down, they share a look over the top of his head, smiling at each other.
~
When Amity gets home she heads straight for her room and sets her bag down.
She's just sitting down at her desk when her siblings burst in unannounced, as they usually do.
"Hey, Mittens." Edric grins at her, as they make themselves comfortable on her bed.
"Soooo, how"s school been?" Emira drawls with a sly, knowing grin that completely betrays her.
Amity smirks at them.
"Rather uneventful on my part actually, though Boscha seems to be having an unusually hard time, but I'm sure you two don't know anything about that, do you?" she asks.
The twins glanced at each other, both wearing equally shit-eating grins.
"I can't say that we do," Edric says, kicking his feet as he lays on his stomach across her bed, head in his hands.
"Doesn't ring any bells." Emira flips her hair over her shoulder and leans back on her hands.
Amity just shakes her head at them, she's grinning.
A knock on the door makes them all freeze, smiles falling away.
"Yes?" Amity calls, trying to keep the sudden nervousness out of her voice.
The door opens and her mother appears.
Odalia Blight looks as prim and proper as ever. Her dark chartreuse hair pulled into a perfect bun atop her head and her lavender dress perfectly pressed and tidy. Her face is stiff and serious, though it's hardly anything other. Her sharp, olive eyes land on Amity.
"Amity, dear, your father and I would like to speak to you in his study," she says.
Those words send ice coursing through Amity's veins. This has to be it, the moment she has been dreading for two days.
"Yes, mother." The response is automatic, she doesn't even realize she's saying it. Her mother nods and disappears down the hall toward her father's study.
Amity takes a shaky breath as she stands.
The twins scramble off the bed to lay a hand on each of her shoulders.
"It's gonna be okay," Emira says and Edric nods.
"Relax, take a breath."
She nods and takes a slow steadying breath. The twins pat her and she walks out of her room and down the stairs toward her father's study. The large wooden door is indistinguishable from the rest of the house, unassuming, but it is one the Blight children never enter unless they've been summoned.
She knocks and a deep voice calls for her to enter.
She takes the handle with a shaking hand and pushes it open.
The room is large and spacious, lined with bookshelves fit to bursting with thick, leather-bound tomes. A large, violet rug lays over the dark wood floor and one large window fills the opposite wall from the door, in front of which an old, sturdy desk sits.
Behind that desk, sits her father, looking down at something in front of him. Her mother stands next to him, hands folded in front of her.
Alador Blight is a tall, thin man, with auburn hair that extends in a well-groomed beard that follows his jawline and grows long on his chin. He is never seen in less than long, black dress pants and dark gray, and white pinstriped dress shirt under a black vest, a gold chain hanging from one of the buttons to the pocket where his pocket watch rests against his chest.
He looks up and gold eyes the same shade as her own land on her.
"Come here a moment, Amity, we'd like to discuss something with you," he calls.
"Yes?" she asks quietly, folding her hands in front of her tightly as she stops in front of the desk.
"We were hoping you could explain this," her mother says, picking a piece of paper off her father's desk and holding it up to her.
She can't help but wince as the poster of her and Luz is held up in front of her face.
She swallows thickly.
"It's… a poster, Boscha posted at school," she says simply. Her mother makes a sour face at that.
"Clearly it is a poster." There's a sharpness in her voice that cuts at Amity. "What we are referring to, is what you are doing in this… scandalous photo," she says. Her father watches silently.
Amity doesn't see any way to mitigate this other than the truth, after all, it's right there, in full color. She mumbles something and winces when her mother sighs sharply.
"Blight's do not mumble, Amity. Speak clearly," she scolds.
"Kissing my girlfriend." She says louder, cheeks turning pink as she says it out loud to her parents.
"Girlfriend?" Her mother looks appalled. "The human?" She's aghast. "How long has this been going on?" she demands.
"Almost six months…"
"Six months?!" Her mother's olive eyes are wide and her father's brows tick upward at that.
"You've been gallivanting around with that human for six months?" Odalia is beside herself at that news, and Amity's shoulders hug her neck. Her mother presses a hand to her temple and shakes her head, but every time the word 'human' slips past her mother's lips makes Amity's stomach roil with anger. Like that's all Luz is and that's all they need to know about her, that she's human, not that she's the kindest, most thoughtful, loving person Amity has ever known
"The human…," her mother starts again.
"Luz" Amity finally speaks, cutting off her mother who looks at her, startled. Her father is also looking at her surprised now. Amity swallows, but plows on.
"Her name is Luz. Luz Noceda."
Her mother only frowns at that.
"Of all the witchlings on the Boiling Isles, you choose that girl of all people…, why?" her mother makes a face and throws up a hand, begging to understand why their most level-headed child has done this.
"I…" she glances between her parents. She has nowhere else to go with this. "I love her,"  is her simple, honest answer.
Her mother scoffs, rolling her eyes as she sets the offensive paper on her father's desk.
"You couldn't possibly know what love is," Odalia says imperiously. Amity clenches her fists.
She might be young, but she's not five. she's read enough books and seen enough people in love to know what it's supposed to look and sound like.
She's learned over the last six months exactly what it feels like to.
It's an all-encompassing desire to be with someone, wanting nothing but to make them happy, and being happy just because they are. Taking care of each other, knowing they're there for you no matter what, even when no one else is.
Luz has literally shed blood for her and kept on fighting, and if all that isn't love, then Amity is sure no such thing exists in this world.
She's been head over heels in love with Luz for long enough to know this, and maybe she's never bled for her, but she can at least make this stand for her.
"Yes I do, and I love her!" Her voice raises as she slaps a hand to her chest, leaning forward, gold eyes narrowed and mouth pulled back in a snarl, and her mother looks at her like she's lost her mind.
Auburn brows shoot upward into his hairline as Alador regards his youngest daughter from across his desk. He can't remember the last time Amity argued with them, and he doesn't think she's ever raised her voice at them, much less the look directed at her mother now, whole body rigid. He's intrigued by this, by this human girl that elicits such a strong reaction in his youngest, and usually, most well behaved child.
He speaks before his wife gets the chance to open her mouth, and he can tell she's about to harshly scold Amity but cuts her off at the pass.
"Tell me, Amity," he finally speaks since this conversation started, steepling his fingers in front of him."...Tell me about this, Luz Noceda," he says, leaning back in his chair. Odalia's head whips to look at him, but his gold eyes are trained on Amity, who is looking back at him with the same eyes.
That catches her off guard, and she blinks back in surprise. She never expected that from her dad, who is looking at her curiously, waiting.
Normally, on any other day of the week she could confidently sing her girlfriend's praises to anyone, but at the moment, put on the spot in front of both of her parents, she struggles to speak for a minute.
"She's kind…," she finally starts. "She's always kind to everyone, but especially to me…," she says, unsure. Tons of things come to mind, but she knows well enough that some of them are things that most people would not find as endearing as she does, especially not her parents.
Her father doesn't say anything, only continues to look at her expectantly, she does her best to ignore her mother, looking at her with narrowed eyes. She knows the kinds of things her mother wants to hear.
"She's very intelligent, and studies all nine tracks at school..."
"Yes, we saw her… interesting uniform, in the photo," her mother says distastefully. Whether that distaste is aimed at Luz's education choices or the content of the photo, Amity is unsure, and her cheeks pink a little, the fact that her parents saw that photo… but she doesn't have time for that right now, she can sense that this is her make or break moment by the simple virtue that they're having this conversation at all.
"She's one of the top students in beast keeping, and is the top student in potions," she says, standing straighter, shoulders pushed back proudly at Luz's achievements. Her mother blinks surprised at that. Being the top student in any of the tracks is nothing to sneeze at. "Humans don't have bile sacs, so she can't do magic the same way we do, but she works hard to work around that, harder than anyone, we spend a lot of time studying for abominations," she tells them.
"Interesting, how does she perform magic?" Her father tilts his head.
All three Blight children know exactly how best to appeal to their parents. Anything that makes them look good is the quickest way to get their mother to agree to something.
Her father, however, has a natural, insatiable curiosity, anything that grabs his interest is the best way to garner his attention. Amity inherited her curious and studious nature from the man, after all.
"With glyphs, usually on paper, but anything she can draw on. She's taught me some."
"Show me," he commands, sliding his desk notepad and pen across to her.
Amity steps forward and takes the pen, she hesitates a moment before deciding on which glyph she wants to use, and carefully drawing it out on the paper and tapping it gently. The paper crumpled up, forming a floating orb of light, it's gentle glow casts shadows across both father and daughter's faces.
"Fascinating…" Alador pulls at his beard thoughtfully as he observes the light spell floating above his desk. He's done his share of research about ancient magics and this reminds him of what he's read, to see it, is another matter entirely, even if it is only a simple light spell.
"Wild magic…" his wife frowns.
"She's the Owl Lady's apprentice," Amity says, and her mother's olive gaze turns to her.
"Edalyn Clawthorne…," her mother sneers. "A brazen criminal…"
"A former criminal," Alador says, drawing both their attention. "The Emperor himself pardoned her and her sister by the will of the Titan," he reminds. "It is thus, not our place to question that… even if her character remains… questionable," he says. "There is no denying that the Clawthorne sisters' are both formidably powerful."
Odalia frowns but doesn't argue either point.
He hums and glances at the poster still sitting on his desk, and the photo of his daughter wrapped in a rather passionate embrace with the human he had heard rumors off. He doesn't like this obvious power play by his colleague's daughter, trying to discredit Amity, but that is a concern for later.
"I'm intrigued, Amity," he finally addresses his daughter, and stands from his desk, cupping the light spell in his hand as he walks around to stand in front of her.
He towers over her, but he towers over everyone in the family, Edric aspires to be as tall as their father someday.
"Clearly this, Luz, is of importance to you, so I wish to meet her," he says and Amity balks.
"You do?" Is all she can say. Her mother looks just as shocked.
"Yes, I've heard the rumors of the human attending Hexside, and her magic is interesting. I'd like to separate the facts from the myths myself," he says and hums thoughtfully. "I believe we have no prior engagements Sunday? "he turns to his wife questioningly, who nods. "Invite your girlfriend to dinner Sunday night, Amity. I will gauge her character for myself," he says with finality.
Amity's tongue works soundlessly in her throat before she nods.
"Yes, father," she finally managed to say.
"Good, that will be all, Amity." He dismisses and she nods before quickly leaving the room.
When she's far enough away from her father's study, she books it back to her room.
Edric and Emira are standing inside, waiting for her.
"Mittens!" They practically jump on her.
"What did they say?!"
"Dad… wants to meet Luz," she says, still shocked by this.
"Really?" Emira blinks.
"Yeah… he wants me to invite her to dinner Sunday night." She looks between them.
"Well, that will be an interesting dinner…" Edric cocks a brow and Emira elbows him.
"I have to tell Luz!" Amity runs over to her desk and pulls open a drawer, sitting next to the little maroon box that her brooch rests in is a large, folded up piece of paper. She pulls it out and unfolds it on the floor. it's poster size, and has a large, intricate glyph is drawn on it.
She taps her hand to it and a portal blazed to life.
"Fold this up and put it back in my drawer, I'll be back soon." With that she hops into the portal and is gone, leaving the twins alone.
"Okay, we have got to get her to draw one of those for us," Emira says. Edric nods.
Amity appears, dropping onto the floor of Luz's bedroom.
Luz screams, falling out of her desk chair, where she'd been bent over some homework.
"Amity?! Don't do that!" She gasps, pressing a hand over her chest where her heart is beating rapidly against her ribs. "I coulda been changing or something…"
"Sorry!" Amity says, helping her stand. Carefully choosing not to mention that her changing is a moot point after her drugged dunking in the river and she had to help her change clothes. "I had to come to tell you right away." Luz's face turns concerned at that.
"What, what happened?" she asks quickly, grabbing hold of Amity's hands.
Before she can say anything the bedroom door slams open and Eda, Lilith, and King burst in, staves at the ready.
They take one look around the room and see the two teenagers standing there holding hands. Eda scowls, lowering her staff.
"What part of 'door open' do you two not get?" Eda frowns as she stands in the doorway.
"I'm sorry, Eda, I just got here, my parents found out today," she says and Eda's annoyed look quickly melts into surprise as she steps into the room, the other two following.
"What happened, kid?"
"They want Luz to come to dinner Sunday. My dad wants to meet you," she says, turning back to Luz.
"Well, that's a good thing right?" she asks, looking confused. Amity looks very worried about a dinner invitation.
"I… don't know," she admits. "My mom certainly didn't seem happy about it…," she says.
"Okay, but this is our chance, they didn't outright forbid you from seeing me. We can do this!" Luz smiles and Amity can't help but return it. Luz always has that effect on her.
"You at a fancy-schmancy Blight dinner? I'm not sure you have the right breeding for that kid." Eda plants a hand on her hip.
"Hey, you don't know what kind of breeding I have!" Luz huffs.
"Eda's right… your usual table manners are fine… most of the time…" Amity gives her a sideways look, and Luz knows she's referring to the eating contest she and Gus had, where she shoved her whole face into her lunch tray a couple of weeks ago. "...but dinner at my house is a little more formal," Amity continues.
"Couldn't you teach me?" Luz asks.
"I don't have time tomorrow and I snuck out just now to tell you…" Amity bites her lip.
"I think I could be of assistance." Lilith steps forward.
"Hey, yeah, Lily is the queen of all that prissy, pompous stuff." Eda slaps her sister's back, making her jerk and she rolls her eyes.
"I often had to attend dinners and ceremonies during my time in the coven. I am quite up to date on the necessary etiquette that the Blights would employ at formal dinner." She agrees.
"Yeah, Lilith's a great teacher!" Luz says.
"So?" Lilith looks between the two teens. Luz turns back to Amity who nods.
"Perfect, we're about to have dinner, Luz, I can assess what you know and what areas we need to work on."
"You stayin' for dinner, Kid?" Eda asks Amity, who frowns.
"No, thank you. I need to get back before my parents realize I'm gone," she says. Eda nods and the sisters make their way back downstairs with King.
Luz squeezes Amity's hands and tugs her in for a quick kiss.
"Don't worry, mi amor, I will learn everything!" Luz promises with a determined nod that makes her smile.
"I know you will." She says before she steps away to the permanent portal glyph drawn on Luz's bedroom wall and taps it before disappearing inside.

Moonlit Masquerade: Ch 13 - End
~
Luz had a hard time looking at either of the Clawthorne sisters as they sat Sunday morning eating breakfast.
Mostly Eda.
Anytime she caught the older witch’s eye she would grin and snicker, causing Luz to flush.
King seemed to catch on pretty quickly.
“What’s so funny?” He looked between the two. “Tell me!” he demanded, pointing a clawed hand at the witch.
“Nothing!” Luz squawked, before Eda could say anything. “Nothing is funny!” Her voice climbed an octave which made Eda snort into her cup of apple blood, but decided to take pity on her lovestruck apprentice; for now.
“Yeah, yeah, nothing,” Eda said but still couldn't wipe away her grin. King grunted in disappointment.
“Leave her be, Edalyn.” Lilith said, but there was a small smirk on her own face, that if anything, was worse then Eda’s full-blown laughter.
It was one of the longest breakfasts of Luz’s life.
Embarrassed as she was she was still riding the high from the previous evening. It had taken her a long time to fall asleep with all the happy, excited energy coursing through her.
She’d laid in bed drawing light glyphs for a while and simply basking in their light as she replayed the entire evening in her head over and over.
Skimming over some of the emotional whiplash from initially being turned down and focussing on every smile or laugh she’d been able to get out of Amity, their dances especially took up a lot of her thoughts. She could still feel the other girl’s head resting on her shoulder and her fingers wrapped around her neck. Her skin tingled with the ghost touch she swore she could still feel.
One moment more than any other always came back to the front of her mind.
Standing in Amity’s bedroom, close enough they could feel each other's breaths, hands gently smoothing her mussed hair and the way the young witch's eyes glowed in the cobalt moon light before Amity’s finger threaded through her hair as she kissed her.
Her face grew warm thinking about and she squirmed happily under the covers.
She let her face drop into her pillow and sighed dreamily.
She thought she had been a mess before, this was something else entirely. Something overwhelming and awe-inducing; something wonderful.
'Is this what love feels like?' she wondered as her eyes drooped closed.
Eventually, she fell asleep with dreams of warm golden eyes and a smile she always wanted to be the cause of.
She’d promised Gus and Willow she would meet them right after breakfast today to tell them how it all went; she needed to get going.
When breakfast mercifully ended she stood and headed for the door.
“I’m going to meet Gus and Willow, bye guys,” she called back toward the kitchen.
“Hold up, kid,” Eda called before stepping into the living room, catching Luz as she reached for the door.
Luz stopped to look at her mentor, who wore a serious expression.
“When you get back I think we need to have a talk.”
“A talk?” Luz blinked, brows furrowed. “About what?”
“You know…” Eda twirled a hand as if searching for the right words. “The Talk.” she finally said.
“The…” Luz started before realization struck her and her face turned crimson. “Oh my gosh! No!”
“It’s an important talk every young witch needs to have.”
“Eda, No! My mom is a nurse, I’ve had the talk!” she wailed, red faced.
And she had. The most awkward conversation she had ever had with her mother, or anyone really, after telling her she was bi, complete with charts and diagrams from her work that made her grimace just thinking about it.
“Well you have a girlfriend now, you need a refresher.” Eda crossed her arms.
“I’m leaving!” Luz didn’t look back as she ran out of the house, the door slamming open and cutting off Hooty’s call of good morning.
Eda snickered to herself as her apprentice vanished into the woods.
“You’re terrible,” Lilith huffed, from the kitchen table, but couldn’t stop the small grin playing on her lips.
“If I’m going to have a kid and all the responsibilities that go with it I should at least get the fun parts too.” she shrugged.
Lilith only rolled her eyes.
~ ~ ~
Gus and Willow were waiting for her at the fountain in town when she arrived.
“Luz!” They called when they saw her.
“Hey, guys.” She grinned.
“Well, tell us everything, how did it go?” Willow leaned in, practically vibrating with anticipation.
“Did you tell her, what did she say?” Gus followed bouncing in place.
“Okay, okay, I’ll tell you.” she chuckled, unable to wipe the grin off her face.
They sat on the edge of the fountain while she recounted the entire party to them, though she did leave out a few things here and there. They didn’t need to know about what she and Amity had talked about when they had been sitting in her backyard playing twenty questions, that was personal and she was sure Amity wouldn’t appreciate her sharing those things with anyone.
She also carefully left out what happened in her bedroom. They would never go around telling people about it but that was something she wanted to keep all for herself. She decided to just conclude her story by saying the evening as a whole was… well, magical.
“That’s so romantic, Luz.” Willow gushed, holding her hands to her cheeks. “Like something out of a love story.” Gus made a face at that but still congratulated her.
"So, are you two dating or?" He asked quizzically.
"Well, we're going to meet for lunch today and it is a date...so, I guess?” She shrugged but there was a happily sheepish face on her smile.
“Whoo!” He cheered.
“I told you you could do it, Luz.” Willow smiled knowingly and Luz squinted at her. Now that she had a better view of the whole picture there was just something suspicious about how Willow had acted about it all over the last couple weeks; it suddenly clicked.
“You knew, didn't you? You knew Amity liked me the whole time,” she asked after a moment, but it wasn’t really a question. She knew she had been oblivious but she knew Willow was much more observant.
Willow’s eyes shot open and her cheeks turned pink.
“Well… yeah,” she admitted.
“Why didn’t you tell me?!” She threw up her hands.
“It wasn’t my place, would you really want to hear it from me rather than Amity herself? Didn’t you just say last night was amazing?” She held out a hand.
“It really was…” she smiled dumbly to herself, starting to drift into her thoughts of last night before catching the teasing grin on Gus’s face and snapped herself out of it. “You’re right… thanks, Willow.”
They spent the rest of the morning walking around the market and chatting before Luz realized it was almost time for her to meet Amity and waved goodbye to her friends as she took off toward the bakery, weaving through the moderate traffic of people meandering through the street and stopping to look at the various stalls and their wares.
She rounded the corner and could see the shop at the end of the street, but her eyes zeroed in immediately on Amity, standing outside of it, waiting, and Luz grinned, chest swelling at the sight of her. She was wearing the same outfit she had been the last time they had met in the market when she had let her borrow her fifth volume of the Azura series, except instead of her necklace she had Luz’s brooch pinned to the front of her dress and it made Luz giddy to see.
Amity hadn’t spotted her yet and she self-consciously brushed any imaginary dirt from her clothes and straightened out her hoody before jogging over.
“Hey, Amity!” she called.
The witch jumped, turning toward her and a smile immediately broke out on her face that made Luz’s stomach roll.
“Sorry, I was with Gus and Willow in the market, I hope you weren’t waiting long.”
“No! no, I just got here,” she quickly assured, a lie, she’d been waiting outside the shop for over half an hour, but Luz didn’t need to know that.
“Great!” She grinned and held the door open for Amity, who managed to keep her face only a slight pink as she walked into the shop with Luz hot on her heels.
The same man Luz had seen before looked up as the bell chimed and he greeted them.
“I’m gonna guess I know what you want?” She looks at Amity questioningly as they move toward the counter and she digs through her pocket for some of her tip money.
“No, let me, you’ve spent enough on me lately.” Amity quickly interjects. After everything Luz had done for her over the last few weeks she feels like she really needs to reciprocate in some way.
“I don’t mind.” Luz smiles and Amity knows she means it, but she feels guilty, unlike her, Luz probably has to work for her money and she knows well enough that flowers and jewelry aren’t cheap, besides, she wants to treat her.
“Please?” she insists and Luz can’t find any will to argue with that face.
“Okay” she nods, she is not going to argue about something so silly, she’s just excited to be here with her.
“Do you know what you want?” she asks and Luz taps her chin, contemplating the display case filled with food.
“I dunno, food is so different here than in the human world… I’m never sure what's not poisonous to me… or still alive…” she grimaces thinking of some of the things she’d seen Eda eat, or the weird things served in the cafeteria. Amity giggles at the look on her face. “Surprise me.” She finally shrugs and turns back to Amity, smiling.
“Alright.” she returns the smile but it turns into a grin. “I’ll try not to poison you.” she teases and Luz grins back.
“That would be very much appreciated. I’ll go find us somewhere to sit.”  She pointed over her shoulder with a thumb. Amity nodded and she trotted off.
The place was mostly empty so she plopped herself on a stool at a small round top table near the windows. The bright sunlight streaming in warmed her face as she kicked her feet back and forth nervously.
This was her first date, and even though she liked to think she knew Amity pretty well and knew for a fact she felt the same way she did, it didn't stop the nervous energy bubbling up inside her.
She looked out the window at the various people and creatures moving about town. It was weird how used she had gotten to the sights after only about two months.
She must have been staring for a bit because suddenly Amity was sliding onto the stool across from her with two little white saucers with matching tarts on them. Thornberry tarts, Luz was sure.
"I hope this is okay…," Amity started, sliding one of the plates across the table to her.
"Yea!" Luz grinned, pulling it close to her. "They look just like the ones back home, I was half tempted to eat the one I got you," she said, looking down at the treat in front of her, it's deep red filling was shiny in the sunlight.
"Ed kept trying too...till I bit him," she mumbled the last part, but Luz heard her and looked up.
"You bit him?" she laughed, and Amity blushed.
"Only after the third time he tried to stick his hand in the box," she grumbled. Luz just snickered and Amity couldn't help but smile.
Amity waited, watching as Luz picked it up and took a bite; she really hoped she liked them. She didn't have to wait long as Luz's face immediately lit up, brown eyes sparkling in delight.
"These are so good!" she said with utter amazement after swallowing the bite. Amity smiled behind her own tart before taking a bite; sugary sweetness coated her tongue.
They didn't say much as they ate, Amity savoring hers and Luz practically wolfing down hers. It was hands down the best thing she'd ever eaten since coming to the Isles, she said as much too as she licked any remaining jam from her fingers.
"You have jam on your face,” Amity said in response, smiling.
Luz licked at her lip, hoping to get any remains of the sweet filling.
"Did I get it?"
"No," Amity snorted as Luz continued to try and lick off the jam and made silly faces as she tried. Amity rolled her eyes even as she grinned and picked up her napkin without thinking and reached the short span across the table to wipe the red smear of her date's cheek.
They both turned pink as soon as the action was finished.
"Oh, heh, thanks." Luz smiled sheepishly at her.
"No problem…" Amity trained her eyes on her food, till Luz smacked a hand on the table, making her head jerk back up.
"Why didn't you tell me I had your lipstick all over my face when I left last night!?" Luz suddenly said, remembering.
"What?" Amity's face darkened at the sudden exclamation.
"When I got home there was lipstick all over my mouth." As she said it her face pinked and Amity's went from pink to red.
"I…" Amity scoured her memories of last night, as though she hadn't a hundred times already since Luz had left Blight manor, but now she was thinking specifically of the few moments on the porch before Luz had flown off and realized there had been some discolored smudges around the other girls mouth. "I didn't notice," she finally said, eyes wide and mortified at the sudden realization. "I'm so sorry!" Her face was bright red.
"It's okay!" Luz waved a hand, chuckling. "Eda thought it was funny…she laughed for fifteen minutes… maybe next time let me know," she mumbled, still pink.
"Next time?" Amity squeaked, almost dropping her tart.
"I mean… not that there's going to be a… next time per say, or that there won't be... I uh…" she trailed off, not exactly sure where she was going with this.
Amity seemed to recover first, playing with the crumbling edges on the crust of her treat, face still hot, but looking up at Luz from beneath her lashes.
"I'll tell you next time," she finally said, the corners of her mouth twitching upwards.
Luz nodded, and couldn't keep the bashful grin off her face.
"Do you… want to go to the library?" Amity asked when she's finished eating and only crumbs remain on both their plates.
Luz perked up.
"Secret book club?" She grinned, bouncing in her seat and Amity chuckled.
"Secret book club," she agreed.
"Yes!" Luz flung herself off the seat but paused at the table side, a quick thought flashed through her mind and before she could doubt herself or rethink it, held her hand out to Amity who blinked at the outstretched appendage for a moment before smiling and slipping her hand into Luz's, fingers intertwined.
"Let's go!" Luz pulled them along as they ran out of the shop and down the street, both smiling, hand in hand.
