If they were in a non pokemon au I can see red being a tradesman/handyman who does odd jobs for low prices. I can't see him being able to stand an office job or anything customer servicey. Green being in some research field would be cute. He goes off to college to study but he refuses to use oaks money to pay for it because he wants to be independent and prove himself. To who? Only he knows. In pokemon you can just say oh he's a pokemon professor without expanding but if I wanted to actually write an au for this I think I'd have to choose an actual specific field. Okay, the little “History is…” talk in the new Amelia Project is making me emotional. Because, as a history buff, my absolute favourite part of history IS the people and the individual stories! One of my favourite things is to read the correspondences of people who never thought that their stories would ever be worth telling or would be important to the historical record.

“History is just wars and dates.”

“No. It’s people! It’s like… it’s like… what is it like? It’s like reading sci-fi but instead of the future it’s the past. But it’s still all stories and cultures and people and they’re different and you never really meet any of them-“

It’s such a lovely way of putting it. And, as Kozlowski points out, the past is still tangible and still impacts and exists in our modern world. Even if it bears little resemblance to what it once was 100 or even 500 years ago. Wars and dates are how we categorise the past, what we define eras by. But it does not give an accurate representation of the living, human parts of the world. How people still played practical jokes, how cultures were evolving or clinging to stay alive, or how for all of time people have always been here just as we are now. Just in different settings. And you know what, that’s beautiful.

The past is horrific and brutal and ugly. It’s also inspiring and worth remembering the stories that make it all up, the threads in the tapestry that is continuing to be woven. It’s about significant names such as Moliere and his death but it SIMULTANEOUSLY about the joy of that one day you found the perfect waffle.

I've been randomly running around hyperactively giggling whenever I've looked at y'all's reblogs and replies- my service dog is very concerned. Stitch is like "you're more excited than normal" and I'm like buddy I'm fine stop jumping on me it's not a panic attack for once I'm just happy. Side note, but have yall ever stubbed your toe with a service dog trained to jump on you and alert when you're in medical distress? Because if I stub my toe and fall he's like "it's an emergency!!! I'm helping I'm helping!" And I'm like buddy no I'm fine I just stubbed my toe- and he's like "I'll fix it I love you I'll help you feel better!" And it inevitably turns into a cuddle fest whenever I fall accidentally and it's not actually an emergency lol. Anyways Stitch the service dog has even noticed that the difference- I'm so grateful for you. I'm blessed to get to know you thank you so much. And Stitch says hi, he loves you too :)

I'm quite grimly fascinated by the YouTube pen pal creator sphere. Like… first of all, these people are just putting their full name and address on screen, huh?

Also, Idk, it just feels kind of disingenuous that they're always all "It isn't about the decoration or the extras! A simple heartfelt letter is what's important!" when they've built their entire online brand around elaborately decorated letters—that they, again, show in full on screen to millions of people who are not the recipient—with a bunch of stickers and tea bags and bits of confetti and washi tape samples added as gifts on top of what's used for decoration. Like, I don't know, if you have to disclaim a million times that having a pen pal is Not A Stationery Swap and that people shouldn't expect to be given these things, maybe you could reflect for a moment on what may have created this impression?

Like, personally, I never for a second believed that I needed more than "just an ordinary sheet of paper and any pen at all uwu" to send a letter, so it's sort of baffling to be gently reassured by people spending hours of work designing a visual aesthetic for their letters that, of course, I don't have to do it like that. Like, yeah, no shit, Sherlock.

I mean, I'm all for people having fun with stickers and washi tape and markers and whatever, but I feel like they've created this very false barrier to entry that I'm not about. It's bullet journals all over again.
