The Trimaran hulls of the Independence-class LCSs make them by far the strangest looking warships I've ever seen.

A TREMENDOUSLY expensive ship building program that has utterly FAILED. Several of these ships have already been retired with less then 10 years of active service simply because they're a maintenance headache that never seems to end.....

LCS are high-speed, agile, shallow draft, mission-focused surface combatants designed for operations in the littoral environment, yet fully capable of open ocean operations. As part of the surface fleet, LCS has the ability to counter and outpace evolving threats independently or within a network of surface combatants.

Second LCS now over 64% complete

US Navy decommissions Littoral Combat Ship after only 7 Years in Service

The United States Navy (USN) just officially decommissioned the USS Milwaukee (LCS-5) Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) after only seven Years in Service. It was commissioned in November 2015, just two months shy of what would’ve been its eighth Year of Service.

The Ship has had numerous Problems, including its Propulsion System which caused it to break down at Sea just less than three Weeks after being commissioned and had to be towed back to Port for 74 km for Repairs. The Freedom-class Vessels also had persistent Defects with their Combining Gears
