I think everyone should be required to have at least one improvisational rp experience before they can have an opinion on qsmp characters actually.

Films watched (2010s): MADE IN DAGENHAM (2010) dir. Nigel Cole; screenplay by William Ivory. Starring Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins, Miranda Richardson, Geraldine James, Rosamund Pike, Andrea Riseborough, Jaime Winstone, Daniel Mays & Richard Schiff.
"What do you think this strike's all been about? Oh yeah. Actually you're right. You don't go on the drink. You don't gamble, you join in with the kids, you don't knock us about. Oh, lucky me. For Christ's sake, Eddie, that's as it should be! You try and understand that. Rights, not privileges. It's that easy. It really bloody is."

I personally think in lifeboats that Logan grabbed shiv’s hand because he thought she was someone one else, probably Marcia, and I think that means he probably did the same thing to Marcia and I do think Marcia was trying to be so aggressively firm w Shiv to make sure nothing happened to her. Because Marcia while no saint, has no desire to be mean to anyone except if she’s mad and feels wronged which is pretty fucking normal. And has her own daughter, and only let shiv go up after shiv invaded her privacy illegally. So yeah I think if shiv hadn’t jumped the gun maybe she could’ve had a woman in her life who cared about her.

dinner in america is such a “take what you want from it and leave the rest” movie for me because i do think it’s very cute and i can buy into some of the wish fulfillment nature of the story but admittedly there are some parts that really don’t work for me, there are some parts that fall a little flat either in terms of the characters or humor, and the pacing is a bit of a challenge tbh. but it’s unbelievable what the human brain can overcome by virtue of simply Just Liking That Guy

rattling the bars of my cage over how much hotd struggles to function as a fantasy show and not just a pseudo historical drama just like got did. tiny example that will NOT leave my brain and has not for like 2 years now: hotd is supposed to be THEE asoiaf adjacent story that highlights the cruelty and unfairness of misogyny in society. we know from the context of asoiaf and got that women who act outside of their gender roles are treated as immature at best and freaks at worst. even dany with three dragons and many victories has to fight and claw and outsmart her way for every inch of ground as a girl queen and conqueror and she is not even in westeros. the men who serve her struggle at times with the fact that she is a girl AND their queen AND conqueror but most of the time they see her as DIFFERENT because she is a targaryen but would she be treated with such deference by and within her family if her family had lived? beggar king viserys implies that no she would not have and would have faced misogyny regardless, and hotd endeavors to not elaborate on that lol
female dragonriders are still expected to play active parts in war with their dragons. it's fascinating that baby girls are even given eggs in their cradles in the first place. a woman's war is in the birthing bed and yet rhaenys is scouting in the air for days on end, laena rode like she was going to battle even when it was just for show, baela is shooting crossbows and rushing garrisons, rhaenyra is throwing her weight around on syrax, nettles is a girl AND common and rides sheepstealer in war. where does this custom come from that's so different from how the rest of westeros views women? is it simply assumed that as many dragons as possible should be hatched at all times even if that means giving women the power to burn entire towns and cities to the ground if they feel like it? if noble targaryen women go to war then why is the line drawn before female knights or female soldiers of any kind? how does everyone feel about targaryen women gaining glory in war? targaryens are supposed to be closer to gods than men and so of course rhaena feels lesser for not having a dragon, but through her will we learn more about what it means to have or not have a dragon AND be a targaryen woman in westeros?
i assume that riding dragons is hard, much harder than riding a galloping horse. dany almost died on drogon let's be real. so do targaryen women exercise? who trains them? who teaches little girls the "dracarys" command?? are girls taught how to aim a dragon mid-flight to burn an army? do they train with the men or not? who is bringing targaryen women into lessons on warcraft so that someone like rhaenys knows how to scout, how to navigate a blockade, and more? and how does everyone, the women especially, square all this with women then being relegated to the typical westerosi standard of femininity - look pretty, act the noble lady, have babies? we see this struggle with young rhaenyra in season 1 and then syrax kinda just disappears for most of the time so idk, is adult rhaenyra a battle-trained dragonrider or not
or is all of this just a quirk of the Dance and everyone was so desperate to win and survive that everyone forgot about sexism and the social contract between men for a few years and so we shouldn't care? that would be wild, considering that hotd is, again, a show about sexism. that sure would be wild if hotd ignored sexism whenever it was too inconvenient to write about these issues when they come up

Le lac des morts vivants (Zombie Lake, 1981)
"Stories about the lake of the damned go back to the Inquisition. They used to celebrate Black Masses back in the Middle Ages: they would sacrifice children, which they threw into it so as to appease the spirits which otherwise rose out of their watery grave in search of blood. And we too, we've used it as an unholy grave during the war. But the soldiers we threw in were not a sacrifice... and they're coming back with a vengeance."
#le lac des morts vivants#zombie lake#horror imagery#gore tw#video nasty#jean rollin#julian de laserna#julián esteban#jesús franco#howard vernon#anouchka#pierre marie escourrou#antonio mayans#nadine pascal#youri radionow#bertrand altmann#marcia sharif#yvonne dany#pascale vital#gilda arancio#1981#easily the most disappointed I've been with a Rollin film‚ but then this is barely his film at all. it began life as a Jess Franco movie#until he quit in pre production when he balked at the meagre budget (and considering how cheap his films were‚ it must really have been#tiny). Rollin took over only as a favour to the producer‚ a friend‚ and also brought on another director with whom he split duties. this#was by every account just a paycheck to the French maverick of phantasmagoria‚ and boy does it show. his disinterest in the material is#palpable‚ and can be forgiven considering the shoddy script‚ largely terrible cast (Vernon is giving it his all tbf) and the truly woeful#zombie makeup. some green looking nazis creep out of a lake‚ kill some naked women‚ and creep back in. rinse and repeat a few times and#that's basically all there is to this faintly depressing little misfire. of interest really only for its inclusion on the video nasties#list and as a comparison piece to the film Franco made instead (Oasis of the Zombies) but otherwise this has very little to recommend it#if you had any interest at all in watching a Rollin film‚ then watch any of them but this (but ideally The Iron Rose or Living Dead Girl)

desperate to see a cowboy movie where every character is played by a woman but it's just. not commented on. the script calls them cowboys and addresses them as he/him but no effort is made to make them look like men. a group of honest cattle herding cowboys and a gang of ruffian outlaw cowboys who resentfully share the same trading posts are forced to work together when a new sheriff comes to town and threatens both their livelihoods, but along the way two cowboys, one from each gang, fall in love??? and they're girls... 🏜️
