PART TWO OF THAT ONE ANON'S ASK WITH THE REACTIONS OF IMPORTANT DEMONS TO SHEN YUAN (*pulls out the wiki*...now, who's important enough to yap about.....): Sha Hualing: Sha Hualing underestimates Shen Yuan at first, believing him to be just another stepping stone to power - if she can make Luo Binghe deal with her existence, she can do anything! So, she puts on the charm: "oh, Ling-er got lost...can the benevolent corvid deity help her?" all coy and demure. Then SY stares at her, and she can just SEE how her flirting flies over his head before he says "yeah! Of course I can." So, she thinks he's a moron, a brilliant thing for her if she wants to be more powerful. However, SHL then has to watch as all of these demons and yao trip over one another to try and court SY and is like "oh...oh I see...." and tips her hat to him - after all, she has to respect a man who can also use his pretty qualities to get as much power as he wants!!! She sees him, she knows what he's doing... Mobei-Jun: Mobei-Jun doesn't really care about Shen Yuan at all - it's strange that Luo Binghe keeps fawning over him and Sha Hualing nods in approval every time it happens, but it's none of his business. Let this strange crow demon do what he wants, as long as he leaves Mobei-Jun out of it. However, he soon learns that Shang Qinghua is close with SY. The same SY who SHL respects for his faux-innocent flirting with every man who has a conversation with him. MBJ MUST KNOW EVERYTHING. He goes to fight for his right to court SQH, has a singular conversation with SY, and realises that SHL is overestimating SY and that the corvid deity is actually just That Oblivious. So, instead of trying to kill SY, he starts grilling him for details about what would make SQH love him. SY needs a drink. Linguang-Jun: Linguang-Jun hears of Shen Yuan - a new demon that can compete with Luo Binghe, and therefore destroy him!!! PERFECT for LGJ's plot to kill Mobei-Jun. He simply has to get SY on his side, which should be easy to do with his natural charm- he gets hit with the wifebeam. Nobody sees this coming, not even me, but he ends his "interrogation" (conversation) sighing dreamily at the power this heavenly demon holds so casually, without even batting an eye about all the people he has under his thumb. GOD, he wants him carnally (only SY could make this happen in a freak like LGJ). Meng Mo: MENG MO HAS HONESTLY GONE INSANE. HE WAS SENT INTO THE MIND OF SHEN YUAN TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON IN THERE, BUT IT. IT MAKES NO SENSE. WHAT'S- WHO IS THIS FREAK. WHY'S HE SO NICE??? WHY ARE HIS THOUGHTS INSANE??? WHY DOES NOBODY FUCKING BELIEVE HIM WHEN HE SAYS THAT THIS IS A FUCKING WEIRDO WHO KNOWS FAR FAR TOO MUCH ABOUT EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING. THIS ISN'T JUST WHAT 'CROW DEMONS' KNOW. THIS IS SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY.

Been paying attention to c-dramas and finally understood the one-dimension villain trope. It awakened a brain cell I previously ignored. So Shen Qingqiu. He was a tropey scum villain because he had one actual trait (+scummy set dressing) which motivated him to attack the protag

Sorry. This gets a bit long:

We find out he actually had a complex inner world and a tragic backstory, making him no longer holder of a single negative trait. This is an important task Shen Qingqiu2.0 has to fulfill to flesh out the characters. Because one-dimensional scum villains are lazy writing and readers should look deeper

Which is why Old Palace Master, Linguang-jun, Qiu Jianluo, and Wu Yanzi are so fleshed out and complex. Obsessed with his student, scheming for power, siscon sadist, and greedy murderer are all very nuanced and unique traits... never seen before...

There is more thought behind them. "Everyone hates this guy but no one does anything about it" is very tropey. The other characters fit into their situation and the people's reactions to them are more realistic and thought out than PIDW's Shen Qingqiu, who is the kind of character that leaves you wondering how he even got the power he did without someone else doing him in

But that contrasts a lot of the analysis by fandom. The focus is not how fiction can examine institutionalized power structures and indulgent interpersonal relationships prop up cruelty and irresponsible behavior. Instead, the focus is "no one is 100% a bad guy" and are "can you condemn a person for what their trauma taught them?". While I enjoy those themes the text doesn't support it with 2 new scum villains revealed for each scum villain de-throned

The end result is something that feels more like passing blame up the chain rather than a clear message. It's not the Abuser's fault because we learned about him. So instead it was the Ones Who Abused Him.

To rectify the error, the system awards joint custody of Shang Qinghua's body to Airplane and OG-Qinghua, allowing both of them to reside in its Mind and splitting control of the body so each controls it every other day.

Especially when, thanks to the unwitting actions of Airplane in the body, OG-Qinghua gets close enough to Linguang-Jun to fall for him in... well, as close to love as a person like him is capable of, at least. Admiration. Lust. Desire. Craving.

And since Airplane is eternally loyal to his Mobei, well...

Feeding the 3000:

Bingge finds his Shen Yuan and brings him into the Harem. Shen Yuan is starry-eyed about all this and thinks it's awesome, so cool!! Bingge in REAL LIFE ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW? WHAT COULD BE BETTER???

Bingge romances him and tells him he'd give up his harem for him. But unlike most of the fanfics I've read where this works differently, SY is just like

And LBG confesses that no, things are very bad and sad, actually. And SY, the dedicated loverboy and 5-d chess player that he is, goes, "Well we'll put our heads together and fix it! We'll find a way to rekindle the spark with your wives!"

And they use dream magic, fancy-named plants with useful effects, and some other stuff to SOMEHOW manage a love life in the quadruple digits, learning a lot about the wives and how they've coped so far along the way XDDD

I think that if Shang Qinghua didn't start yelling for Mobei Jun during the Airplane Extras, Linguang Jun absolutely would have tried to fuck Shang Qinghua

(I cannot remember if Shang Qinghua started yelling for Mobei Jun before or after Linguang Jun broke his leg, but I stand by my claims either way. If Mobei Jun beat Shang Qinghua three times a day as part of his courting attempts, why couldn't the broken leg be a courting attempt on Linguang Jun's part)

So do you have any head canons for MoShen? I know you likened it to SessKag, but do you have any solid ideas for it? I kind of like the vibe of SY being kidnapped by LGJ for some kind of monster or demon knowledge he has and SY and MBJ working together to ruin his uncles plans. There’s some interesting ground to be tilled here.

I honestly had no specific ideas for MoShen outside of rogue cultivator!Shen Yuan and his demonic parole officer Mobei-jun until you asked. And then it just. Kept going. Maybe some vague ideas about Shen Yuan transmigrating early and trying prevent Tianlang-jun’s sealing and Su Xiyan’s death (tho being completely unaware of the plotline he’s about to gloriously derail). Maybe he succeeds, maybe he doesn’t, maybe he gets stuck with a screaming baby that he knows he can’t raise on a rogue cultivator’s income. (I just want LBH to grow up in all universes happy and mentally healthy with a parent figure he doesn’t become sexually attracted to 😭).

Which gives us a nice interim period where the demon realm is figuring their shit out/trying not to collapse beneath the massive infighting over the power vacuum left by TLJ. Maybe one of TLJ’s lieutenants takes over, maybe LGJ. Perhaps he’s rather paranoid with his nephew gaining support among the stronger demons and so when news crops up of a supposedly non-demonic cultivator with suspiciously intimate knowledge of demonic creatures going around not killing/exorcising said creatures, it’s the perfect excuse to get his meddling nephew investigating something trivial and getting him out of the way (for a little at least, not knowing he’s practically handing over the former demon lord’s heir and his rival for the leadership of the demon realm to his other rival).

SY isn’t gonna let his son get taken and brainwashed into a mini demon lord but accepts that it’s LBH’s birthright. And so he makes a deal: help MBJ overthrow his uncle via some weirdly specific plant/cursed artifact/magic creature that can nullify a demon’s power, and in exchange keep LBH out of the fighting until he’s old enough to fight back (plus allowing SY access to the demonic leader’s personal library afterward, but that’s an afterthought. of course. 👀).

MBJ has some childhood trauma of his own, caused by his uncle and some nasty humans, so he doesn’t trust SY in any way shape or form but the human’s requests don’t seem…outrageous.

But the problem is that he needs the human alive��for this to work and SY is making that incredibly difficult. He has a panic attack every time the human returns back to camp with some incredibly poisonous/venomous/carnivorous/bloodsucking monstrosity, fully intending on “examining it and maybe bringing it home” in SY’s immortal words. MBJ is not convinced the human isn’t suicidal. Only LBH’s sheer existence at this point makes him question how this idiot kept himself—much less a small child—alive.
