3.34 Excuses, Excuses

It’s starting to warm up around the time we go camping, although it never gets that cold in San Sequoia in the first place. Seeing Lexie in her hiking gear reminds me of our trip to Granite Falls, which I guess was about a year ago. It’s a bit of a sad memory; after all, that was the beginning of the end for us. But now she seems carefree and happy, no longer burdened with the weight of living a life she wasn't meant for. I have a feeling camping together will go a lot better now that we’re just friends.

Another bonus for this trip is that Lucy, Paul, and Danica are much more experienced with outdoorsy stuff so no one is struggling with things like putting their tents together. Lacey, Lilly, Lexie, and I are more than happy to sit back while the three of them get to work.

Once everything is set up, we start walking around, eager to take in the fresh air and sunshine. As we walk Lexie comes up beside me.

"Kind of weird going camping together again, huh?" She asks.

I laugh awkwardly. "Yeah, it is."

"I promise I won't be too grumpy this time."

"Good, I'd hate to have to feed you to the bears."

Lexie laughs and smacks my arm. "Better not!" We come to a clearing at the end of the trail and decide to take a rest. Lexie and I sit slightly away from the others. "So, what's the deal with you and Lacey?"

"What do you mean?" I respond, knowing full well what she means. Like a lot of people, she's picked up on how much time Lacey and I spend together at work.

"Well, do you like her? Are you just friends? Somewhere in between?"

"Somewhere in between, I guess. I mean, I haven't really been dating since..." I trial off, but we both know how the sentence ends. I haven't really been dating since you broke my heart. The uncomfortable truth.

"I get that, I really do, but I don't want to be the reason you're not putting yourself out there." Her brow furrows and she bites her lip.

"Hey, you're not the reason," I assure her. "It's me. But I've been working on it, and I feel more ready to date now."

"Then why not ask her out?"

"Well for one thing," I pause, looking in Paul's direction. "I don't think I'm the only one interested in her."

"Oh, Lucy's brother? So what? She's either interested in you or she's not. Why give him the chance to be the first one to ask her out?"

Lexie has a point, I'll admit. Maybe I'm just making excuses again. "I'll think about it," I tell her.

Gwen's eager to put her name to some hard-hitting journalism, but first she has to navigate a less than inspiring interview subject, a broken computer, a malfunctioning elevator, and the strangest nightlife scene known to man.

Gwen: Lilly-Bo Chique, you're one of Bridgeport's hottest rising stars. Tell me, what should people know about you?

Lilly-Bo: Umm... I don't know. I guess I really love pizza. Let's see. What else? Oh! Did I tell you my favorite food is pizza?

Lilly-Bo: Gather round, all! It's scary story time!

Lala: Oh my god, Lilly, your scary stories are always, like, so... scary.

Bar Patron: Oh, hell no! The last time I stuck around for one of these, I couldn't sleep for an entire week.

Hot Female Bouncer: I could've sworn we banned this bitch from the premises! Time for me to kick her weirdo ass out... again.

Elvira: What do you mean, I can't come in? I'm a celebrity, damn it!

Tough Male Bouncer: [unimpressed snort] In your own mind maybe.

Elvira: I'm a fucking vampire! I could rip your goddamn throat out for this!

Tough Male Bouncer: Go ahead and try.

Gwen: What is in the water in this place?

Okay, so I have the full set of "A mix of good and bad" household updates. And if you followed me for more than a nanosecond, you know I like to do an updated version of "the original" sim, but then do a gender-flipped version. And usually I can come up with alternate but still appropriate name for the new version.. but this one eludes me. It's Lilly-Bo Chique. I just don't know what to call him! Beau became Belle, because they are similar sounding, but also are reasonably related meaning-wise. And the others are Marina -> Marino; and Bianca-> Blanchard. But what to do with Lilly-Bo?!?

I was inspired by images of "Japanese street-style fashion" but I'm not going to claim that they are in any way an accurate reflection of the aesthetic.

Anyway.. if nothing else they are cuter than the original hopefully. That's the main thing. And if someone can help me out with an appropriate name, I'd appreciate it.

It looks like Lilly is ahead of him in everything. In the blink of an eye, she has totally stolen Daisy's attention.

In order to regain that attention, Pat orders a pizza; Daisy served it to him and went back to her work as if it was nothing. Oh, well, at least he and Jun will have pizza.

Meanwhile, outside Eugi's, it is still raining cats and dogs. 🌧️☔

Note: You may have noticed that in the parking lot there is only Patrick's car, and inside the bar there are not many sims. This was before installing the @lazyduchess Lot Population mod, which I am currently testing in Starlight Shores. I must say it works beautifully. 🥰

i hated beau's default look, i made him into a leather jacket wearing bad boyyy.

marina was giving me effortlessly pretty girl next door so i didn't do too much with her look.

ea did lilly-bo chique so bad omfg. my inspiration for her was colorful y2k cool girl. i might edit her face more later. imagine her being your stylist... i think she's a fashion icon actually

bianca. she made me think of icy 2000s mean girl paris hilton.

i kinda want these girls to overthrow beau and rebuild their friendship. are you really beefing over community dick?

3.24 A New Outlook

Part 2 of 2

As the afternoon begins to fade into evening the group settles down for more relaxing activities. Lucy has packed some marshmallows and a few of us gather by the fire Paul started for us. Lacey sits between me and Paul.

“Your family must be pretty active,” she says to Lucy and Paul.

“Not really,” Lucy laughs. “Mostly just me, Paul, and our brother Matt.”

“Yeah, I think that’s why the three of us are so close," Paul explains. "We have some common interests we can share. Although Matt prefers to workout in the gym.”

“Sounds like my sister,” I chime in. “She’s always trying to get me to go to the gym with her, but I get bored.”

“I totally get that!” Paul agrees. “I do use the gym sometimes, though. I’ve taken a few yoga classes there.”

“Oh, I love yoga!” Lacey leans in closer to Paul. “It really helps me relax and get in tune with my body.”

“Yeah, I try to start my mornings off with yoga. It sets the tone for the day.”

“I try to start my day off with yoga but I somehow always end up smoking a cigarette and ruminating on my life choices instead,” I quip.

Paul laughs. It’s one of those ungraceful snorting laughs, which I wasn’t expecting. 

“Speaking of cigarettes, I could use one right now,” I say and start to stand up.

“You can’t smoke out here!” Lucy chides.

“Why not?”

“It’s a fire hazard!” 

I gesture to the campfire. “I think it’ll be okay.” Lucy just glares. “I’ll make sure to put it out all the way,” I assure her and begin walking towards the pond. 

“Smoking is really bad for your health!” Lucy calls out behind me. “Tell him, Paul!”

Paul grumbles. “I’m sure he knows that already,” he protests. I can’t see them but I can sense Lucy glaring at Paul the same way she did at me. Paul sighs and rattles off a list of statistics about smoking and tells me how unhealthy it is.

“So is my outlook on life!” I call out. 

I can hear Paul snort behind me and I can’t help but laugh to myself. I’m realizing he’s kind of a dork which makes me feel a little less threatened. When I glance back, though, I see Lacey is still hanging onto his every word. I finish my cigarette and before I can even throw it down, I hear something behind me.

“Now!” Lucy yells. I turn my head to see her and Lacey coming towards me and before I know it, they push me into the pond.

“Hey!” I yell as they break out into laughter. 

“At least you know your cigarette’s out now!” Lacey teases.

“Okay, very funny. At least help me get out.” 

Lacey and Lucy foolishly reach out to me and of course, I pull them into the pond with me. Rookie mistake. By now the others have started jumping in. It’s a shallow pond; a little murky, but the water feels nice after spending the day in the heat. The sun has disappeared behind the horizon and the moon is casting its glow onto the water’s surface.

Lacey and Lilly are splashing each other in a way that’s playful but vaguely threatening. Lucy is helping Quinn swat mosquitoes away. Robi and Clara are hovering around each other in the way that they do, pretending that they’re not totally into each other. Danica jumps onto Paul’s back and he begins to shake her off.

I’m suddenly aware that I’m by myself in a group of people who’ve known each other for a while, but I don’t feel alone. 

Lacey swims toward me. “Sorry for pushing you in earlier,” she apologizes. 

“That’s okay,” I tell her. “I’m having a great time.”

“Yeah, me too,” she smiles.

Hello, hello! I’m back with another makeover! (Again?!)

So, I just made over Beau and I learned that Lilly-Bo is a very unique looking sim and I just love that! So I made her over lol.

She isn’t the ugliest sim, she one of the worst dressed ones though, I mean, what the heck is this?!

And somehow her formal is worse, yeah, think about that.

She's a fashion disaster, but I had fun making her over.

And despite his flaws, never let it be said that Beau Merrick doesn't absolutely adore his fiancee, and submits himself to any and all of her creative visions (co-authored by her sister, Flo-Flo, of course)

All of this to say, I'm playing Lilly-Bo Chique and Beau Merrick in my personal game and I am absolutely smitten with this couple and their kooky family (including the aforementioned Flo-Flo, as well as Lilly-Bo and Beau's son, Cyril)
