happy Friday :D for DADWC this week, perhaps some modern AU Anders? đ
(I take prompts! See info here)
Ty for the prompt!! I took this as an excuse to write ~850 words of Anders in my big DA modern AU for @dadrunkwriting. Content warning for a discussion of an injured child (injured in an accident) and emotional abuse (by a templar).
âWelcome to my pride and joy!â Anders span a full circle, arms outstretched as he indicated the room. âIâd call it cheap and cheerful, but itâs free and weâre based in Darktown, soâŠâ
âSkint and simple,â Lirene surmised. Anders laughed. âIllegal and impoverished?â
"Not illegal,â Anders corrected. âLook.â He pointed in sequence to a poster stuck on each wall of the single-room clinic, which read, in large black and bold letters: âANDERS VALEN DOES NOT HAVE A MEDIAL LICENSE. HE HAS FIVE YEARS OF CIRCLE TRAINING, EIGHT YEARS OF HYBRID CIRCLE/TRADITIONAL MEDICAL TRAINING, AND TWO YEARS OF FULLY QUALIFIED PRACTISE. BY CONSENTING TO TREATMENT BY ANDERS VALEN, YOU FOREGO ANY RIGHTS TO COMPLAIN TO THE FREE MARCHES MEDICAL ASSOCIATION.â
Lirene blinked. âDubiously legal, then. But youâre just⊠offering this?â
âOf course.â He said it so simply. Like it was obvious; like people werenât, two blocks over, being forced to pay hundreds for treatment or wait three months. âThereâs a lot I canât do, of course, with no equipment and no authority to prescribe anything, but if thereâs anyone you think I might be able to helpâŠâ
âIâll send them your way,â Lirene confirmed. âWhat can you do?â
âEmergency healing,â Anders said. âInjuries, mostly. I can give advice or instructions, and there are a few diagnostic tests you can run with magic even if machines are more precise. I can ease symptoms of illnesses, too â but I canât cure them. Infections still need antibiotics, but if a kid canât breathe with a chest infection I can ease that, if you want an example.â
âRight.â She wrote as he spoke, but honestly she was most of the way to convinced already. He was a persuasive young man, clearly sure of himself, and clearly should have been qualified, but⊠âOne last thing, so I know what to tell people. Why arenât you in one of the Lowtown or Hightown clinics or hospitals, charging more than most can afford for a hybrid approach that heals faster than a traditional doctor?â
Anders grimaced. âTheyâll leave as soon as they come in if you donât warn them in advance, right?â
âDepends on how desperate they are,â Lirene said. She saw a lot of desperate people, these days â including people who would go to quacks just if there was a chance of fixing something. All she could do was inform them as to what they were getting into. âBut if you can give me something to tell them, Iâd hear it now.â
âAlright.â Anders sighed. âI worked emergency care in Central, and I was earmarked for all mage patients that came in. You get cases where kids have been hurt for or because of their magic, so seeing someone like meâ meant to be good, right?â
âOf course.â Lirene didnât need to be told twice when it came to what mage kids had to deal with in Kirkwall, even now. She saw it in the news plenty, and from experience she imagined actually living it was worse. âSo, something happened?â
âA lot of somethings.â There was a hard edge to his voice when he spoke, something that just hadnât been there when he was showing her the clinic earlier. âSometimes there were kids whoâd injured other people as well as themselves. Didnât matter how injured the other party was â if someone else got hurt, then when the mage kid came into the room, they had to have a Templar escort.
âThey were always brutes â nasty when they thought no one was looking. Even when they were meant to be looking after a kid in one of the most difficult experiences of their life so far. These kids are being rushed in to see urgently, and one of them that night? It was past midnight. Poor kid was crying his eyes out, electricity burns all up his arms. Heâd zapped his mum hard enough that she was out cold, so he was unaccompanied other than this Templar. Six years old. Could barely get a word out, and the Templar shouted at him to speak up.â
âBastard.â
Anders chuckled darkly. âIâm glad someone agrees. Anyway, I told the woman to fuck off, get out of my examination room. Legally, the kid had to be accompanied by a Templar, but the woman was so heated I had toâ well. I called someone from security I could trust, and he removed her anyway. Boy stopped crying, all the healing was done in five minutes, and I returned him to his lovely handler. I lost my license for breaking the law; endangering the hospital by removing the confessed perpetrator of a magical crime from Templar custody.â
He looked furious, and Lirene was sure her expression mirrored his own. It was patently unfair, and⊠well, she knew it couldnât have been the whole story, but it was enough of one that she knew what to tell anyone who came looking for her advice.
A free clinic for anyone willing to seek out a mage healer, manned by a doctor who lost his license in a miscarriage of justice for protecting a child. It certainly wouldnât earn him any enemies in the kinds of people she saw on a daily basis.

SaL anon here friend and it's Friday, i'm getting over my 12th cold since the year started, and AO3 is down so if you don't mind I'll be ranting about my recent Buddie thought. So with all the discourse over if Buddie is actually happening I've been thinking about scenes and got stuck on 4x14. As you've noted that episode would be pretty shitty without Tim's scenes, and I'm fascinated by the choices made in the scene where Buck talks to Chris. Obviously we start with Buck barely holding it
together when he enters. They talk, and then Buck gets that text that Eddie is going to be okay. And he just breaks. Now if this was JUST about Buck having to tell his BFF's kid bad news, when Buck gets that text shouldn't he have been relieved and happy?? Isn't that what his reaction you'd expect if the same had happened to Chim or Hen? But it doesn't happen here and it's easy to say after everything, he's just so relieved but that's a pretty specific reaction. I'm thinking something like Sense and Sensibility, when Eleanor cries finding out Edward isn't married and forever beyond her reach. Its the reaction you'd expect from someone who's had to think about never having this person in your life and finding out it's not going to happen and hate to tell KR, that is NOT a platonic reaction. I don't know why that got stuck in my head recently, but I blame the absolute boredom of last season for not giving me something better to think about.
Oh no! Iâm so sorry youâre struggling to stay well. đ„ș Also, Ao3 like...cannot be down, WTF are we all supposed to DO with ourselves? Introspection? Chores? Stop procrastinating on what weâre supposed to be doing? Sleep? I think TF not! Looks like âbitching about thingsâ it is! Bring it on!
Okay, so you know my thoughts about the shooting specifically being good, but 4x14 in general being way overrated just because of a couple scenes which ignores how KR sidelined the firefam from Eddieâs injury/recovery and also sidelined EDDIE himself from what should have been his own story. (Unlike Buck who still got to have a whole spin-off thing from his ladder truck injury. At the time it happened it was about Bobby, but Buck still got to be centered in his injury and recovery, just saying).Â
ANYWAY, that all aside, you bring up a VERY interesting point which is one of the things that people latch on to about this episode, and that, as you pointed out, nearly didnât exist because KR didnât think the audience needed to see Buck telling Chris about what happened to Eddie and Tim put his foot down. Now ostensibly, that was because Tim knew the dynamic is a favorite and a scene like that is right at the heart of the show and something at the time it was known for doing and doing well. However what we got was NOT an adult telling a kid some tough news, stepping out to take a call about an injured co-worker, letting out a shaky breath and sigh of relief, then returning to the kid to cheerfully give them the good news. Instead we saw someone the kid trusts enough to run away to when heâs upset, struggle to form the words, and then have a full-on sobbing breakdown when he found out his...âfriendâ made it through surgery while being comforted by the kid like they are a family. Not like Buck is just a co-worker and âdadâs friendâ coming tell Chris what happened before leaving him to his grandparents or something like you would see if they were just ânormalâ friends. Tia Pepa and Abuela are still around, we see them at Eddieâs party, but itâs never even suggested that Chris stay with them, or one of them come stay at Eddieâs. Like????? They both used to watch Chris before and Chris is much older at this point and Carla is around to help. Thereâs ZERO reason why the two of them couldnât come stay and watch out for Chris, or Eddieâs mom couldnât come in from El Paso right away. I just...WHAT IS THE REASON?!
We have seen several members of the firefam get hurt and the only time Buck came anywhere even close to how heâs reacted to Eddie being in danger is finding Maddie in the woods and even that heâs able to be focused and present on her and is just relieved they found her. With Eddie, heâs completely lost and has to have Bobby pull him together during the well incident, and during the shooting Buck freezes first, then saves Eddie but looks one second from falling apart the whole time, and the second he isnât actively keeping Eddie alive, heâs nearly catatonic. Speaking of other members of the firefam, we saw Bobbyâs reaction to Athena being attacked, and Maddie breaking down sobbing (very much like Buck did with Chris) when she hears that Chim is alive, and how Chim broke talking to and about Maddie in regards to her leaving, hell we literally JUST saw in Tomorrow Hen having the exact same reaction to Karen nearly dying and the way she broke down when they got Karenâs pulse back and handed her off at the hospital. The parallels there are....very loud. Which begs the question WHY was Tim so adamant that this scene take place and give us all of that, only to ultimately do nothing with it? BRB gotta go scream into the woods about this for a bit.
âI don't know why that got stuck in my head recently, but I blame the absolute boredom of last season for not giving me something better to think about.â Okay but for REAL it is *crickets* out here right now. Probably because we went through 9 hours of show that was about 6 hours of filler that didnât tell us anything at all. Not a great thing when your show is going to be off the air for 3 months.đ€·đ»ââïžđ€·đ»ââïžđ€·đ»ââïž
Thanks for giving me something to do while waiting for Ao3 to come back up, I am always here for the salt and the general âWTF is all this then?â-ness. And as always, itâs a delight hearing from you. Letâs all manifest some direction for 6b, a return to emergencies that mean something and actually pertain to the main characters and their arcs, FINALLY some good Ravi content, and most of all, Buck and Eddie being allowed to be friends on screen again. Considering that was something very loudly mentioned all season across the board, hopefully someone took some notes. Until then, Iâm always here for your rants- excited, frustrated, or otherwise!Â
#my sweet nonnie friends#sleeping at last anon#911#buddie#kr go work on a cop procedural and leave our weewoos alone forever challenge#maybe they SHOULD make a spinoff about L and her cop family#then kr could go do that and OG could get her out of their hair#and we could all cackle in glee when it tanks and gets canceled before the first season is fully out#because literally NO ONE asked for that except for kr and ak#ANYWAY#that's probably the booze talking#peanut butter whiskey is sooo good it hot chocolate by the way

REDESIGN REBUILD RECLAIM
This has been a rallying cry of mine since my huge fall from grace in 2016. A fall that I have been fighting to get back from and although obstacles get placed in my path, I am still here. Standing, fighting and most importantly, breathing.
The title of this piece comes from WWE superstar Seth Rollins. Seth was on a huge run, and was injured pretty badly. He needed to have surgery and was out of action for sometime. However when he came back, he released this mantra on his T-shirts and yes I own one. I have told myself this everyday since I had a psychotic break in 2016 where things began to unravel, but I fought hard and kept things together but lately, things have been harder.
I'm not going to get into the nuances of my issues. I am growing. I am getting stronger, but sometimes I fall and I fall hard. I don't say the right things and react very poorly to people and difficult situations. I have the tools provided to me, but I don't always use them. I read into some things too much. I feel too hard. Yes I have stuff. However my personal journey should not impact BNB. And yes it has. Boy it has.
We just got on spotify and another radio station has agreed to air the show. I dragged the beginning of that process with them, and I hope my latest actions will help. The last episode on Spotify was XI, and we are on XIX this week. I haven't written on this for at least a month and haven't produced new content on the site with my Monday Moments or anything else for that matter. I have been keeping up with the show on HCR on Fridays as it has been new shows every week. One show I dealt with my depression, which is what I am going to talk about here.
Depression is a mother fucker. It kills motivation, it crushes spirit, it makes you feel like you are unloved and unwanted. It's horrible. I have been feeling useless for the last two months. I have told people I am OK, but I'm not. I lie to make life easier for them. I don't want to be a burden but sometimes my emotions make it out, and I can't stop talking or doing things. Having BPD, ADHD, and a depressive disorder is a trifecta of terror, and I do my best to move forward. I'm not going to lie and tell you everything is OK. But I will tell you I am taking steps to manage it.
I do therapy once a week, DBT once a week, and now I have started seeing a psychiatrist to go down the rabbit hole of meds. It was meds that made me break in 2016, so I am being very cautious about this. It is my yoga practice that gives me strength along with a community of some super people, and the love I have for my children. I do not want to let them down.
So why am I telling you this? Well I need to really talk about it and get serious. I have feelings of doubt all the time. It's my biggest enemy of the five I have learned about during training. I doubt people like me. I doubt that I can touch people. I doubt I'm good for my family. However, I fight with doubt often, so I don't carry these feelings all the time. The bottom line is if I want BNB to be successful, I have to do a better job then what I am doing.
BNB is for everyone. I created it so people have a place to go to talk about the hard stuff, to work it out, to learn yoga and find awesome people who can help them as well. Many of the guests on the show have played pivotal roles in my life. I love them all dearly, and I am so thankful for the lessons they have taught me. Some on the mat, some off. So I wanted to be able to help people. That is why I am here and I will continue to do so.
So this is me making my promise. I redesigned my blueprint. I am rebuilding my brand, and I will reclaim the role that I believe I am born for. To make the world a better place with my voice, my movement, my energy, and my willingness to learn how to be better everyday. This will be my focus. This is my aim.
I will update this column on Wednesdays as I was supposed to. Join me for Monday Mindful Minute tomorrow live on facebook and possibly you tube.
Peace and love.
Namaste

Lost and then Found pt. I
Imagine being taken by HYDRA. After years with them, they set you loose on someone you haven't seen in a while. Unfortunately for HYDRA, you weren't as susceptible to their mind experiments like they thought.
Words: 8.6K Author's Note: Major trigger warning! There will be a bit of talk about non-consensual pregnancies and some failed pregnancies from said attempts. Also I didnât want to post this, but this upcoming week is going to be stressful for me and I honestly donât know how much writing Iâll get done. Please read the bottom note for help on hopefully part 2 of this.

The team had been hanging around various floors of the tower when FRIDAY alerted everyone that they were needed in the meeting room ASAP. And when FRIDAY sounded urgent, the team knew it must be serious. Leaving the gym, Steve and Bucky run into Clint and Natasha who had been coming out of the locker rooms.
"Any idea what's going on?" Bucky asks Nat.
She shakes her head. "FRIDAY wouldn't cough up any more information. I contacted Tony, but he just urged me to get my ass moving."
As they wait for the elevator, the doors slide open and they nod to Wanda who's already standing in the back corner. With her arms crossed over her chest, she nods to each of her teammates as they file in. Ever since she had lost Vision, she hadn't been quite herself and everyone knew to give her whatever time she needed.
In the meeting room, the atmosphere is immediately tense. Sam is at the table and as a testament to how serious the situation is he doesn't even crack a joke the second he lays eyes on Bucky. Everyone takes a seat, with the exception of Tony who's still pacing at the front of the room with a tablet in his hand.
"Tony," Steve calls out. "What's going on?"
A moment passes and then Tony stops at the head of the table, looking up. "This." He swipes up on his tablet screen, sending a video hologram to the middle of the table so everyone can see. "This came in about fifteen minutes ago."
The video plays and the team watches on in shocked speechlessness. The video shows a young girl who couldn't have yet been a teenager be strapped down to a gurney and injected with several different vials. They listen as the poor girl screams and thrashes, and sobs about burning on the inside.
The video cuts out before popping up again and shows the same girl, a little older this time, and having a mouth piece shoved into her small mouth before a contraption is lowered around her head. Eyes dart to Bucky and no one says a word as his metal arm whirs when he watches the young girl go through something very similar to what he went through. As she screams, the video cuts out again yet again.
Everyone had been so focused on Bucky's reaction, that no one paid any attention to Wanda as her eyes widened when the video came back for a third round. The girl on screen is definitely older now, her baby fat has all but vanished, and she looks defeated. Her hair hangs in limp strands around her face and there's a collar around her neck that Wanda knows gives off one hell of a shock to the person wearing it when they disobeyed orders. An older male walks into view and the girl cowers away. She winces, her hands flying up to the collar around her neck. "Begin," a voice then sounds. The male lunges for the small female and she tries her best to fend off his blows, but she ends up beaten and bloodied within thirty seconds. At the end of the fight the man is given instructions and then he walks over to the girl, kneeling down and biting her around the wrist. She screams, the man takes a bullet to the back of the head, and the video cuts out.
This time when the video comes back, the girl looks a little more steadier on her feet and less beaten down. She looks ready for a fight. Towards the end of the clip she has bloodied, pointed fingertips. She's shoved back into a chair and that's when her emotionless mask drops, begging to not be wiped. She screams as they start the procedure and then by the end of it there are no more tears. There's just an emotionless female awaiting orders as the video cuts out.
Finally the last clip shows her fighting like she's been doing it for years, taking down one attacker after the other until she's the last one left standing. There's a sharp whistle and the girl stands at attention, and the video zooms in on her stoic expression before cutting out altogether.
"Who sent this, Tony?" Steve readily asks.
"Don't know. I have FRIDAY chasing an IP address that just keeps pinging in every part of the world."
"Do we even know who she is?" Natasha asks. "And what the whole point of this video was?"
"No. Not a cl-"
"Her name is Y/N." Everyone looks to Wanda who can't take her gaze off her hands in her lap. "She was already there with HYDRA when Pietro and I showed up so long ago."
"Willingly?" Clint wonders.
Wanda shakes her head. "When we had gotten there, she had just turned nineteen. She was already stronger than the average human, but we never truly saw what she could do. She was different." She finally looks up, expression sad. "HYDRA was not all that we thought it would be, but by then there was no turning back. We'd seen Y/N around base, but she was always so stoic and never spoke to anyone. But when we had one on one time with her and the guards would leave us under her care, it was like a switch had flipped within her. She was so much lighter and she spoke to us like we had been friends since we were children."
"Why didn't we find her the first time we met you and your brother?" Tony then asks.
"She had been gone for weeks by then. They told us she was killed on a mission they sent her on, and that me and Pietro were going to be the new fists of HYDRA."
"The last video was stamped a week ago," Bucky says. "HYDRA lied."
Sam huffs. "Of course they did."
"They must have seen you, your brother, and Y/N getting friendly. They couldn't have their best weapons socializing and turning against them," Bucky says.
Clint sighs. "So what's the plan?"
"We get her back," Wanda says, leaving no room for Tony or Steve to say otherwise. "She was forcefully taken, unlike Pietro and I. She does not belong with them."
"It's been years, Wanda," Natasha says softly. "She might not be the same girl you knew."
"But what if she is? She is the only family I have left."
For a long moment no one says anything, so Tony takes it upon himself. "Then we look for her, but you're responsible for getting through to her. She'll only know you, not us."
"Fine."
Steve and Tony talk a bit more about being prepared for when FRIDAY tracks down their target, and then everyone is being dismissed.
Wanda takes a moment, letting everyone get up and walk out first, when Clint walks up behind her chair. Placing a hand on her shoulder, he leans down some to say, "Y/N is not your only family, kid. We're your family too." Wanda's heart cracks just a little and she reaches up to cover Clint's hand with her own to let him know she understands. "Just keep that in mind in case we don't find Y/N or she's no longer who she used to be."
Wanda gulps and then nods. "I will."
Working for HYDRA has been absolute hell. Ever since you had been taken as a little girl you were hell-bent on getting out of there which meant doing anything and everything to be in their good graces. Obviously you didn't learn to do so until you were sixteen and had most of your emotions under control.
They experimented and tortured and even tried their mind wipes like they did on their beloved Winter Soldier, but surprisingly your mind was never empty like they hoped to be. Of course, though, you kept that little detail to yourself wipe after wipe. But after everything that went on while you were in their grasp and after whatever they turned you into, you realized you couldn't quite leave and turn yourself loose on the public while you had no control over what you could do.
So you stayed and obeyed like a good little soldier, and attempted to train their new little puppets. Only being left alone with Wanda and Pietro became the one thing you started looking forward to up until they told you the twins didn't survive one of the trials. You had been heartbroken and devastated, but you couldn't let them see. So you nodded, let them move you to another facility and began anew.
You lost yourself within HYDRA, honing your skills and becoming someone even the other soldiers started to become wary of. The mind wipes became less and less the more obedient you became, but then they had a new mission for you- a mission which made your loathing for them hit an all time high.
You've been sitting in solitary for weeks now, biding your time until you could break free and get the hell out of dodge. All morning you've been antsy and it only becomes worse when you can feel the tension mounting all around you.
The door opens and you immediately snap to attention, but the guard that comes in does not have a lunch tray in his hands. Instead, he has a uniform which he readily tosses at you. "Get dressed. You've got a mission."
You quietly snarl at the guard after catching your suit and his hand immediately goes to the electrical prod at his side. "Careful," you drawl. "You wouldn't want your superiors to find out you injured their most prized possession."
His right eye twitches and he lets his hand fall limp. "The clock's ticking on your life, bitch, and when it's up I'll happily put you down."
"We'll just see about that."
The guard turns around and stomps away so he's standing just outside your door, and you hurriedly strip to get dressed in the apparent new uniform. The material for the pants are thin and fit like a glove, but you've worn these before and you know they're impenetrable to blades. Your boots are standard issued, but the long sleeve shirt- the shirt gives you pause because of the padding that's been added to it.
Once you're dressed and your hair has been tied up, you march up behind the soldier and readily clasp your hands behind your back to await orders.
Emotionless mask in place, you're led out and about the base. Everyone seems to be in a tizzy and the smell of gunpowder and blood is thick in the air. You can hear the gunshots and shouting from behind closed doors several rooms away, and you're not surprised that that's exactly where you're led.
The General meets you outside one room in particular and he dismisses your guard with a wave of his hand. You bite your tongue to keep from smiling at the fact the guard grumbles at being dismissed so easily.
"Ah my dear Y/N," the General coos. "Come. We've got several mice trapped and we need you to rid us of them once and for all." You blankly blink at him, nodding once to let him know you understand your mission.
The second he turns around to enter the code for the room, your shoulders drop just a bit and you attempt to put yourself in the mindset of fighting once again. The door slides open and you follow like an obedient little soldier, only to stop short at the sight of the assembled heroes standing on the opposite end of the room. One in particular stands out, her scent hitting you like a freight train and you have to try your hardest not to show an inkling of knowledge about who she is.
You stand next to, but an inch or so behind, the General's left side with your hands still clasped behind your back and feet shoulder width apart as you stare straight ahead. You're trying your damnedest to focus on the red, white, and blue shield Captain America is holding out before him, and not show any recognition for Wanda who is desperately calling out to you in hopes of recognizing her.
You block out what the General is saying, no doubt gloating about your skills, and zone back in just as he gives what he thinks is a command you're programmed to obey. With your right foot planted, you take a step back with a left and flick your wrists out at your sides so claws unsheathe themselves. You can hear several heartbeats pick up speed and you finally meet Wanda's gaze. She seems to still as you offer her the faintest of grins and send her a wink, only to twist on your right foot a moment later and send your clawed left hand into the throat of the General.
The Avengers all tense and prepare for a battle as the General gurgles on his own blood, and you lean in close to his ear so you can say, "Your first mistake was taking me from my family when I was just a little girl." He tries to pull your hand from his throat, but he is no match for your strength. Growling, you squeeze your hand that's still embedded in his throat. "And your last mistake was reintroducing me to Wanda, and giving me hope." Just as the alarms start to blare, you rip the General's throat out and let his limp body fall.
"Y/N?"
You glance up, smirking at Wanda and her wide-eyed expression. "Hello, little Maximoff." You flick your hand free of some of the blood and then smile at her companions. "Avengers." You nod at them in greeting.
"You remember."
You blink at her, not bothering to answer the obvious. Instead, you can hear walkie talkies going haywire outside the room and you turn around to glance up at the windows where you know others are watching. You mockingly wave at them with your bloodied hand and start pacing in the middle of the room, putting Wanda and the Avengers at your back. Looking up at the window, you let your smirk drop into a scowl. "You think you can take me from my family, torture and brainwash me, and then sic me on the only other family I've ever known?" You yell, seething. Cracking your neck, you let your rage take over and feel the bones shift uncomfortably in your face. Even your eyes burn and you know they're flaring an electric blue. "You're fools for thinking you could control me."
You feel a soft pressure on your wrist and immediately turn to growl at the person who dares touch you, but you lower your head in shame when you see it's just Wanda. She softly gasps and you try to turn away. "What did they do to you?" She asks as she gently grasps you by the chin to make you face her once more.
"What they do best?" You mumble, sharp teeth catching on your bottom lip. "They turned me into a monster."
Wanda's voice catches in her throat, but before she can say anything you're facing the door and stepping in front of her to shield her. Seven soldiers rush in, electrical prods gripped tight in hand.
"Why don't they have any guns?" You hear one of the Avengers ask.
"They must want her alive," someone else answers.
"If you don't stand down, we're going to have to resort to drastic measures," one HYDRA agent says.
"Then resort to them," you growl, "because now that I know Wanda is alive you're gonna have to kill one of us just to separate us again."
Wanda steps up next to you then, hands slowly rotating at the wrists as red energy floats around them. "And trust me, I am not so easily killed."
You can sense the Avengers all stepping into line behind you, but you don't bother looking at them. Instead, you focus on the threat in front of you and the fact they have more people gathering outside once the first line falls. Then from one second to the next, there's a silent command that sends the HYDRA agents into fight mode.
You break off from Wanda, drawing a few agents towards you. Your fighting skills come into play and it's easy for you to either block or withstand the shock of the electrical prods. However, the agents are not so lucky since you're going in for the kill. If you're not kicking in knees and snapping necks, your claws and teeth are digging into throats and ripping out flesh. You're roaring and snarling, and scaring most of the agents you come into contact with, but there are a select few which are all too happy to disobey orders and engage you in physical combat.
You take quite a few hits to the face and sides, and for a moment you're worried, but you have to push through and worry later.
You're not sure how long the fight lasts, but all you know is hat the last agent you claw until he's gurgling on his own blood is the last one to go down. Panting and heaving, electric blue eyes scan the room. All the Avengers are still standing, most of them don't even look like they participated in the fight, but all are watching you with wary eyes.
Wanda steps in your direction and you growl, but then stop the moment her hands go up to show you she means no harm. "It's over," she tells you, her accent heavy and reminding you of so long ago when you first took her under your wing. "If you want to leave, you need to calm down. My team has no idea who you are and you being so hostile makes them nervous."
"Team?" The word rumbles through your throat as your gaze jumps from person to person. "But where's Pietro?"
When your gaze lands back on Wanda, she's smiling softly. But that smile soon wobbles as she shakes her head. "He died a while back. I'm sorry."
You shake your head as you take a step back and Wanda quickly closes the distance between the two of you. She wraps her arms around until you lower your head to her shoulder and you sniffle quietly. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay. He died a hero," she says. "We saw the error of our ways and the Avengers took us in." You finally allow yourself to wrap your arms around her, breathing her in and calming your rage. When you feel yourself sag against her, you finally pick up your head and smile as she runs a finger down the bridge of your nose. "There you are."
"M'sorry."
"For?"
"For you having to see me that way. I didn't even know you were alive and then they just told me to dress and take care of a mice problem they had. I didn't know it was the Avengers."
"It's okay," Wanda assures you. "You did the right thing."
"Um, I hate to break up this crazy reunion, but we need to go."
You glance at the man with wings and nod. "That would be a good idea. They'll send more soldiers soon."
Captain America glances at Wanda. "Get her to the quinjet. We're gonna do a sweep of the base before bringing it down."
Wanda gives him a nod and then she's urging you to follow her. You follow her through the winding hallways and an elevator ride up to the surface, and you huff a quiet laugh when you see the destruction left in the Avengers' wake. Off in the distance there's a jet and Wanda wastes no time in leading you up the ramp, and onto a seat.
"Just wait right here." She rushes towards a door and you're surprised a small bathroom sits behind it. She grabs what appears to be a hand towel from inside and then walks over behind the cockpit of the jet, grabbing a bottle of water from inside a bench seat. Then walking back over to you, she gestures to your face. "You've got a lot of blood."
"Oh." You take the towel and water, and quickly wet the towel to start wiping off your face and hands. There's nothing you can do for your clothes, so you leave them be.
As you wait for the others to return, you fidget in your seat and exhale softly as you catch Wanda's gaze. "What made you guys hit this specific base?" You wonder. "They're usually very careful about the comings and goings so they didn't attract the wrath of the Winter Soldier."
Wanda smiles and takes a seat across from you. "Bucky has been going on a world tour of tearing down HYDRA bases in his free time. We think HYDRA got tired of it and wanted to lure us into a trap, so they sent us a video of you."
You frown. "Why me? And what video?"
"They wanted me to rush in and not be at one hundred percent, hoping I'd make a mistake," she says. "Bucky and Natasha believe HYDRA saw us getting close, so they separated us and told us the other had died so we'd follow them faithfully. And when they sent that video, I was stunned. I wanted to rush in and bring you home, but the team made me take a beat." Having stood up halfway through her explanation, Wanda had retrieved a tablet and tapped away at it. Handing it to you, you find a paused video on screen.
Pressing play, you watch yourself be tortured and experimented on, and taught to kill. You wrinkle your nose at how young you were and how sickly you were at one point until they found a method that took and made you what you currently are. You're so caught up in the video that you aren't paying attention to your surroundings and are surprised to see the Avengers walking up the ramp.
"Done already?" Wanda asks.
"All we have to do is detonate once we're up in the air."
Wanda exhales in relief and you meet the gaze of several Avengers who don't know what to think of you after seeing you rip through the HYDRA soldiers like it was nothing. To break the ice, you say the first thing that pops into your mind. "So that was fun."
Iron Man snorts as he walks on by, heading straight for the cockpit. "Great. Another murder-happy supersoldier."
"Uhh, I'm not a supersoldier," you say. The rest of the team glances at you and you go on to explain. "On the video, you all saw the man bite me. Right?" There are various forms of acknowledgement. "Well that's what turned me into what I am. A bite."
"A bite from what?" Black Widow wonders.
You shrug. "The best I can come up with is a werewolf."
Hawkeye snorts, but at your no nonsense expression he sobers up. "Oh. Uh, those exist?"
"I'm assuming so," you say. "I get extra rage-y during a full moon, so I'll probably have to be chained up when the next one comes around." Wanda looks startled at your confession, but you flash her a small grin. "It's fine. I'm used to it by now."
Everyone takes a moment before either taking a seat or steadying themselves, and then there's lift off. The quinjet rises higher and higher until it hovers mid-air. Captain America walks towards the cock-pit and after giving the all-clear you can hear a distant boom and concrete caving inward.
"Well that's another base down," Captain America says.
Exhaling in relief, you allow your eyes to close and relish the feeling of being free. Your moment of peace, however, is short lived when you feel eyes on you. Opening them, Captain America and the Winter Soldier are sitting across from you now. Wanda has taken the seat next to you and you smile as she lays her head on your shoulder.
"I know you've been through a lot, but we have some things we'd like to discuss," the good Captain says.
You nod. "Ask away."
"They wiped you over and over," the Winter Soldier says matter of factly. "Why didn't it take?"
"I honestly have no idea," you admit. "The first time, it took. I didn't know who I was or where I was."
"How did you break out of it?"
"Something one of the doctors said triggered a memory from when I was younger and it just snowballed from there. I started remembering, but a few months after that I was wiped again. The second time didn't take quite so well, but I still forgot. I just knew there was something missing and slowly but surely it started coming back," you say. "But then after I was bitten, the mind wipes completely stopped working. It hurt like hell and I learned to fake it until I could find a way out of there."
"We didn't find much on you," the Winter Soldier says. "Their computers were already self-destructing, but we did manage to find a book where they wrote down your trigger words. You don't mind if we say them to make sure you're telling the truth?"
Wanda's head immediately snaps up, no doubt ready to tell them to back off, and you grin at her protectiveness. "It's fine." She then turns to look at you in shock and you wave her off. "Honestly, it's fine. They don't work. I should seriously win an Oscar for best actress."
Hawkeye and the Black Widow stand on either side of Captain America and the Winter Soldier, and he slowly reads the words aloud after opening the book. "Blue. Full moon. Bitten. Beta. Wolf. Red."
Everyone seems to hold their breath and the corner of your lips quirk into a grin. "Still doubting me?"
Captain America huffs. "That's unbelievable."
"You've fought aliens and Asgardian princes, Captain. My broken mind should be the least unbelievable thing."
"Steve. My name's Steve," he says. "And you're not broken." Your grin falters as you blink at him in surprise. "And this is Bucky." The Winter Soldier nods at you and you return the sentiment.
"Clint," Hawkeye says.
"Natasha."
"Sam."
"And I'm Tony Stark, but I'm sure you knew that."
"Uh, sure," you slowly muse. When he squawks and turns around his seat, you huff a small laugh. "Of course I know who you are. I know who you all are thanks to HYDRA and their obsession with you. I just wasn't privy to the fact that Wanda was part of the team until now."
They take your word for it and now that with the knowledge that the trigger words do nothing to you, it seems to bring some ease to the group and everyone finally settles in. According to Wanda the jet ride is going to take a bit so you might as well make yourself comfortable.
About twenty minutes into the ride, you shift uncomfortably in your seat. You chalk it up to the fact the seats aren't really that comfortable to begin with, but when you move to stretch your back a little you feel a pang just to the right side of your abdomen. The pain causes you to still and when it lingers you close your eyes to concentrate on your hearing. Unfortunately, the roar of the jet's engines prevents you from hearing anything.
You abruptly stand up which causes every gaze to snap to you, but you pay them no mind. You feel a cramp suddenly take hold on your lower abdomen and you bend at the waist, breathing through it.
"Y/N?" Wanda calls out.
"Something's wrong." With those two words, you feel the tension in the jet amp up. Your hand goes to your side, rubbing there and then following towards the cramp in your lower abdomen. "Something's really wrong."
"What's going on?" She asks.
You whirl around, eyes burning and you don't even care that they're flaring blue at your friend. "Your magic. Can you feel things with it? Or people. Anything?" You ask in a rush.
"I- I don't know what you-"
"Can you feel someone's conscious or whatever! I need- I just-"
"Okay. Okay," she slowly stands up. "I can. Now tell me what's wrong."
You immediately grab her right hand and set it against your abdomen. "Tell me if you can feel anything." Your eyes burn again, this time with unshed tears. "I can't listen for a heartbeat over the jet's engine."
As your words sink in, Wanda's eyes widen. "You're pregnant."
"Holy shit," you hear someone mutter behind you.
"It hurts." You finally allow the tears to fall. "It's not supposed to hurt."
"How- how far along?"
"Three and a half months. Please, Wanda, I can't-"
Without further prompting, Wanda's eyes glow red. You glance down and see her hand glow red as well, her magic then slowly encircling your abdomen. After what feels like an eternity, she slowly smiles. "There it is." Her gaze darts up to you and the red fades away. "I can feel him. Or her."
You choke back a sob, your hand flying to your mouth to muffle it. Wanda immediately embraces you and you sink into the comfort she's offering you. Then after a moment there's a hand on your shoulder that doesn't belong to Wanda and you lift your head up to see Sam.
"Hey girl, mind if I check you out? You fought awfully hard back at the base and given your condition I'd be more at ease if I knew everything was good."
Your brow furrows. "You're a doctor?"
"No, but I've got some training bandaging people up for the real docs. The most I can do for you right now is check for tender spots so I can report back to the doctor at the compound and insert an IV."
You look to Wanda for her opinion and she nods to let you know it's okay. Then looking back at Sam, you nod. "Okay."
Clint immediately pulls down a cot from where it was folded against the quinjet wall and Sam gestures for you to lay down. He instructs you to lift your shirt and you do so, lifting it until it's bunched beneath your bust. "Okay so I already see some bruising."
His fingertips touch the side of your abdomen and you automatically growl. He freezes and you wince. "Sorry. Instincts."
He chuckles. "It's okay. Given what you apparently are and the circumstances, that's to be expected. Am I good to proceed?"
"Yeah." You inhale shakily. "You're good."
Sam continues his brief examination, pressing here and there around your abdomen for any tender spots. You wince at one particular push and he quietly apologizes. When he's done, he leans back. "You're definitely gonna have to be checked out as soon as we get to the compound."
"Understood."
"But I'd like to get an IV started if that's okay. With you being pregnant and under HYDRA's care, I rather get some fluids in you that I know haven't been tampered with."
"Yeah. Yeah, that's fine."
You sit up and Wanda walks over to sit next to you on the cot, taking your hand between both of hers to offer you some semblance of comfort. Steve gets up to go speak with Tony and you ignore the quiet conversation they're obviously having about you. You can feel various stares on you, but you keep your gaze dead ahead and manage to keep from fidgeting or lashing out.
You don't know when, but you end up dozing off against Wanda. Then the next time you're conscious, you're being gently shaken awake and you watch as everyone starts to disembark the jet.
"We're home," Wanda murmurs. "Are you ready for this?"
"Yeah."
Slightly stretching, you're apprehensive about any sort of pain flaring but it never comes. You're thankful for it and then stand up to walk side-by-side with Wanda. Arm hooked through hers, you follow her off the jet and into the sleekest building you've ever laid eyes on. Sam is waiting for you, alongside a woman who smiles kindly at you. She introduces herself as Doctor Cho and you readily follow after her.
The labs make you apprehensive, but Wanda and Sam assure you everything is fine. Doctor Cho has you change into an unflattering medical gown and she talks through everything right before she does it so you're not caught off guard. All in all, being poked and prodded by this woman is a lot more pleasant than when HYDRA's doctors did it.
After a while, Doctor Cho comes back with a tablet in hand. You can see she wants to ask for privacy, but you immediately let her know that you're okay with Wanda and Sam hearing everything. Since you're staying wherever Wanda is, it's only fair the others know what's going on with you so there are no secrets.
Smiling, Doctor Cho glances at the tablet before looking up at you. "So everything seems to be completely normal," she says. Sam and Wanda exhale in relief. "Sam mentioned some bruising around your abdomen when he first walked in, but there is no sign of any bruising whatsoever. You and the baby seem one hundred percent healthy given everything you've through."
"I heal fast," you quietly admit. "I'm not sure why it took so long for me to feel the pain, but I panicked because of the baby and I wasn't thinking straight back on the jet."
"As an expecting mother, it's normal to panic. I had first hand experience with Mr. Stark's wife a few years back. Panicking is normal, but you just have to remember to breathe and take it one step at a time."
"Easier said than done," you mumble.
Doctor Cho chuckles. "Well for the next few weeks, I want you to take it easy. I'm not putting you on bed rest because of your accelerated healing, but I don't want you doing any strenuous activity."
"Don't worry," Wanda muses. "I'll make sure her butt is planted on the sofa at all times."
"Well okay then," Doctor Cho says. "I have some clothes for you if you want so you don't have to get back into that suit."
"I'd like that. Thank you."
"And if you're up for it, I'd like to see you again next week so we can make sure you and baby are still heading on the right track. I'll even order in some prenatal vitamins and a few others that you're lacking."
You nod. "Okay. That sounds good."
Reconnecting with Wanda had been easy. You were happy that she and Pietro got away from HYDRA when they did, even if Pietro didn't get to enjoy his freedom, and she was sad that you had been under HYDRA's thumb this entire time. But a little wine (for Wanda) and a lot of grape juice (for you), and the two of you were chatting like you hadn't missed any time at all.
After that, settling in at the Avengers' compound was a lot easier than you anticipated. Everyone, with the exception of Tony and Clint, lived just behind the compound in a new building that had been erected not too long ago and it was a lot more homely than you were expecting. You had moved in with Wanda for the meantime, keeping to her quarters so as to not step on any toes. But on the rare chance you decided to stretch your legs, you were surprised that the others would cordially start a conversation with you to see how you were doing.
Then after several visits with Doctor Cho where she continued to tell you that you and baby were doing extremely well, Wanda decided to have a family dinner in celebration.
"So who's all going to be here again?" You ask, already looking through the refrigerator.
"Just the usual," Wanda tells you. "I didn't want Clint and Tony to have to drag their families out here, but they do check in every now and then. They're happy you're settling in."
You snort, shutting the refrigerator door and standing straight. "Are you sure that's it and it's not because I haven't ravaged anyone to death?"
"Y/N.."
"I'm only joking." You grin. "Now can you please contact the others and tell them to hurry up? I'm starving!"
Grinning, Wanda takes her phone in hand and starts tapping away. She chuckles at something on her screen a few moments later, but before you can ask what's so funny you hear several individuals approaching. The aroma of the food hits you next and your mouth immediately starts watering. Steve, Bucky, Natasha, and Sam walk in- each and every one of them carrying various bags of takeout.
"Hey Y/N, think you got a little drool there," Sam says, gesturing to the corner of his mouth.
And without missing a beat, you say, "Not only am I a pregnant woman, Samuel, but I'm a pregnant wolf. I will eat you if you don't stop teasing me."
Sam gasps in offence as everyone else chuckles, and then they're setting the food down on the table to start unloading it as Wanda asks you to help her with utensils and drinks. But the second you turn back towards the table and see all the food laid out, you pause and take it all in. And then promptly burst into tears.
Everyone seems startled, but you're quick to get yourself under control. Sniffling and then wiping the tears away, you say, "I'm sorry. It's just that there's so much food!"
Steve is the first to chuckle. "You're crying because there's a lot of food?"
"Well yeah. You brought all this food and you're not expecting anything from me." Steve's smile instantly vanishes. "HYDRA would offer me nice things, but it always came at a price."
Sam whistles lowly. "Well that just took a turn for the depressing." A beat passes and then, "Come on, little momma. Come grab some grub."
Wanda smiles kindly at you and you finish making your way to the table. You end up with her at your side and Bucky across from you, and a table full of food laid out in front of you. Then the second Natasha reaches for pan fried dumplings, you reach for one of the largest burgers you've ever seen and a whole tray of fries. You groan at the first taste and proceed to finish it off in five more bites. You eat some fries and then stare at the remaining burgers with longing.
"Go ahead," Natasha tells you. "We have more than enough."
You sheepishly grin in her direction and grab another hamburger, devouring it without a care in the world.
But then when you eye the sushi and reach for it, you gasp when the chopsticks in Bucky's hand whack the back of your hand. "No. Raw fish is bad for pregnant women."
A growl unconsciously slips free and the whole table freezes. But then the situation you're in sinks in and you roll your eyes as you pull your hand back into your lap. "Then just say so, Barnes. Don't whack me. I'm not a damn dog." You're scowling at him, but then your words sink in when you see the corner of his lips twitch. "Oh shut up."
The whole table laughs and you shake your head, grinning as you then reach for a container of Chinese noodles that smell absolutely divine.
Later, stuffed full and laying across a sofa, the whole lot of you are relaxing as the TV plays some random TV show Sam had put on. A commercial comes on for pampers and you groan. "I am not looking forward to diaper duty."
Wanda chuckles, but it's Natasha who asks, "So you plan on keeping the baby?" You startle at the question, glancing over at her. "I mean everyone just kind of figured you wouldn't want to given the circumstances of when and where you became pregnant, so-"
"No, I get it," you tell her. "When HYDRA first told me the plan of birthing them a soldier, I kind of lost it. I pretty much went feral at the idea of forcefully having a baby." Gulping, you quickly sit up to explain all that went down. "They wanted to breed me," you sneer, "and they had to sedate me for their chosen soldier to just enter the same room." Immediately your nose tingles, everyone's anger wafting off of them in waves. "Unfortunately for them, they forgot to take into account that my metabolism burned through everything ten times faster than a normal human and I came to just as my pants were being unbuttoned. The guy barely had time to smirk before I ripped his throat out. With my teeth."
The men all stare at you in various stages of shock, but Wanda and Natasha both smirk. "Atta girl," the redheaded assassin muses.
"Killing their top candidate was a big upset, so they attempted to wipe me again," you say with a shrug. "But when the higher-ups got wind of an unscheduled wipe, they came down to see what that was all about. Needless to say, they were not impressed with their Doc's breeding tactics. Doc One took a bullet between the eyes and they brought in Doc Two who was a big fan of artificial insemination." Everyone winces. "Pregnancies one and two didn't stick, so they tried pregnancy three with a sample they had in the freezer. I don't know who the father is, but HYDRA was really ecstatic when month three came along and the two of us were still in good health."
"And you're okay with keeping this baby?" Wanda softly asks.
"I kind of have to be. This baby," you say while gently touching your abdomen, "is half me and half someone else who I'm pretty sure is enhanced. Even if I thought adoption was an option, I don't think I could live with myself knowing a piece of me was somewhere out there."
Everyone takes a moment after your story sinks in, thinking about all that you've been while in HYDRA's control. Afterwards, Steve clears his throat. "So before anyone goes overboard with baby stuff, we're gonna have to put you in your own apartment." He smiles when he notices he catches you off guard with that. "No need to overflow Wanda's apartment with baby things when we have plenty of room to spread out still."
"A-Are you sure?" You ask. "I was ready to start looking elsewhere for a place to live, but-"
"No. HYDRA will be on the lookout for you and that baby," Wanda says. "You're staying here where they won't dare to infiltrate."
You glance at each present Avenger, taking in their pleasant expressions and sniffing them out for any hints of deceit. Finding none, you allow yourself to relax and grin. "Okay then. We'll stay here."
Cohabitating with the Avengers is nothing like you expected. Everyone's guard is down while at home and everyone likes spending time together in the communal spaces when there's not a mission for them to be worrying about. Sam especially gets a kick out of seeing how your appetite holds up against the two supersoldiers and he's impressed that you can eat the same amount or sometimes more.
And when the full moon is less than a week away, it's not just you who's worried about it.
Tony flies in when they notice you're quick to anger and they quickly clean out the hulk proof room that hasn't been used in quite some time. Steve and Wanda take charge, asking what would make you most comfortable, and you admit that anything with your scent on it will do. But what catches everyone off guard is that you sheepishly request something with their scent on it as well and you have to embarrassingly admit that it's a werewolf thing. With you spending so much time with them, you've kind of latched on and your wolf considers them yours.
Everyone is game to get you whatever you need and within half an hour they've got your bed set up in the room, and blankets and pillows from those you'd been living with these past couple of weeks. Everyone takes care to not annoy you the couple days leading up to the full moon, and then you're encouraged to go ahead and settle in the room the day you snarl at Tony for making a puppy joke.
Wanda sits in an armchair in the room as you sit against your headboard, talking about anything and everything as you practice some of Bruce's meditation tips. The door to the room is open for now, and every now and then you can hear someone pass by to quietly check in.
No one needs to tell you when the moon's reached its apex because you can feel the change within you. Your breathing becomes a little heavier and your fidgeting is no doubt more apparent. Sweat starts to bead along your hairline and you curl your fingers inward so as to not shred any of your bedding when you feel your claws suddenly elongate.
"Y/N..?"
"Wanda." You inhale deeply and slowly release it. "I think it's time you go."
You hear the armchair creak under Wanda's weight. "What? I can-"
"Go." You exhale deeply once more, slowly glancing up and eyes burning blue. "You need to go."
A growl slips free and then Steve's immediately in the doorway. "Wanda, come on."
Your gaze stays glued to Wanda as she cautiously stands and she smartly walks backwards to the door rather than giving you her back. And the second the door slides shut, you're leaping out of bed and pacing the entirety of the room. Your agitation ends up getting the best of you and you end up ripping your shirt off, thankful that you had been talked into wearing a sports bra underneath.
The walls are opaque, but the second a voice comes over an intercom you're whirling around to glare at the exact spot where everyone is congregated around screens and keeping watch over you. "Y/N, you need to calm down. Your heartbeat is way too fast."
You snarl and a fist flies towards the wall. There's a loud thump, but they put you in a hulk-proof room for a reason. No matter how much strength you have, you won't make a single crack in the glass.
As you pace all around the room, you growl and roar out your agitation.
Fortunately for you, you have a fair amount of control and you never resort to harming yourself. You do, however, tire of pacing and your bed looks all too welcoming. So once you deem it safe enough to let your guard down, you crawl into bed and surround yourself with the various pillows and blankets of your pack.
The following morning when you wake up, Doctor Cho whisks you away for an evaluation to make sure the full moon didn't affect the baby. And once you're given the all clear, Wanda and Sam lure you into the kitchen with a promise of a hearty breakfast.
You're more tired than usual, but you manage to perch on one of the bar stools at the kitchen island, setting your elbow on the island top and setting your chin in the palm of your hand. Wanda starts to slice up some avocados when you notice there's an itch under your skin that's telling you you need to do something, but you aren't sure what. The feeling amps up as the time ticks on by, but before you can get up and start pacing in agitation there's an arm draping around your shoulders.
The familiar scent of Steve overwhelms you and you feel yourself automatically lean towards him. He chuckles. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I wanna snuggle the hell out of you," you mumble. Leaning away from him, you turn on your stool and part your knees, pulling Steve as close to you as possible. "Seriously, just hug me. I need to scent everyone again."
Sam snorts from his spot at the stove and Steve happily obliges you. Your arms wrap around his waist and you lay the side of your face against Steve's chest, a happy rumble slipping free as Steve embraces you back. "I don't know why you're laughing, Wilson. I'm cuddling all of you."
After about five minutes, you let Steve go and you readily drag Wanda into his vacant spot. She laughs, but hugs you back the moment your arms go around her. You shove your face into the side of her neck and you can't resist rubbing your cheek along her shoulders.
Sam ends up getting the same exact treatment right before breakfast is served up and since Natasha isn't really a hugger, she does sit next to you and allows you to at least drape one of your legs over hers underneath the table.
Afterwards, instead of heading back towards the apartment you share with Wanda, you eye Bucky who's sitting on the couch with a book in his right hand. And though he's been perfectly cordial with you since you've been brought in, you knew better than to just approach him out of the blue like you can with Wanda, Sam, and Steve.
Steve chuckles as he sees your hesitance, but he offers you no help in broaching the cuddling topic with his best friend. However, just as you enter Bucky's peripheral, he readily lifts his left arm that had been resting on the armrest. You sigh in relief and crawl in Bucky's lap, sitting sideways and laying your head on his shoulder. His metal arm curls around your back and his hand which he's holding the book settles down atop your knees.
You soak in Bucky's warmth and scent, and before you know it your eyelids get heavier and heavier.
The click of a phone's camera sounds and Bucky glances up to see Wanda pointing her phone at him. "What?" She feigns innocence. "It's adorable."
"She's exhausted," he says. "I'd fall asleep anywhere too if I had to go through what she did."
"I can take her if you want," Wanda says. "Float her on back to our apartment."
"No. It's fine," he's quick to assure her. "I wasn't planning on moving anytime soon anyway."
Wanda nods, hiding her grin as she walks towards the elevator where Steve and Sam are already waiting. Getting in, all three individuals smirk at Bucky cradling a sleeping pregnant werewolf in his lap.
"If she names that pup after Barnes, I'm throwing hands," Sam says.
Wanda laughs. "I don't think she's thinking about naming her child after a man she's only known for a couple of weeks, Sam."
"Well some would think that one would not sleep in the lap of someone they've only known for a couple of weeks, but here we are," Steve then says. "Unless it's a werewolf thing."
Wanda, Steve, and Sam take a moment to think about it before Sam says, "I got twenty that says those two end up hooking up before the baby bump makes itself known."
"What? No way." Wanda shakes her head. "I have twenty that says she's just extra cuddly because she's hormonal and just came down from the full moon."
"Guys," Steve admonishes them. A moment later, he grins. "Twenty says a real attraction grows and those two end up together."
"You're on, Rogers."

MAIN MASTERLIST
Avengers x Teen!Fem!Reader
Word Count: 5,450ish
Requests: I put two requests together for this one. I hope that itâs okay.
1-What about one with the Avengers and reader (maybe they have super speed???) where the reader is a teenager and super stressed out for whatever reason so the Avengers decide to get them moving by doing something with water (like water guns, balloons, slide, etc) with them. Just like fluff, I think itâd be kinda cuteÂ
2-Can you write an avengers x teen!reader, where she lost function in both of her legs, which makes her really sad and depressed? The others have to help her with everything and she feels bad, so she ends up trying to do things herself, but gets hurt. Maybe steve and tony play a more significant role. Thanks!
Warnings: angst / fluff / paralysis / wishing to have diedÂ
âHey Speedy!â Tony called over the comms. âYouâre up!â
âFinally!â You exclaimed.
The mission had started almost an hour ago, and the plan had been for you to hang out in the quinjet until you were deemed needed. Which annoyed you. Even though you were barely 17, you had been a part of the Avengers for almost 3 years. Longer than even Peter Parker.
Due to some freak accident during the Battle of New York, you somehow ended up with super speed abilities. Thatâs how Steve and Tony found you almost 3 years old. The two were in the city for meetings and you were zooming around helping people and playing pranks. You thought it would be fun to do something to those two. But before you could do something, Tony and Steve had you pinned to the wall with part of the Iron Man suit. Apparently, their âmeetingâ was to actually find you and bring you in.
The whole Team was interested in getting to know you very quickly and get you properly trained. Natasha, Clint, Bucky, and Steve handled your combat training personally, while Tony and Bruce tested your abilities and created gear that would help you.
Steve and Tony, though definitely not a couple, took on the role of your parents. You even had begun calling them as such. Steve was Pa and Tony was Dad. They didnât always agree on exactly how to handle you. But they loved you and that was a step above your real parents, who you didnât even know.
âY/N! I need you to get in the building and get anyone and everyone out!â Steve instructed. âAs fast as you can! I think the building is going down!â
âYou got it Cap!â You responded.
Using your super speed you rushed out of the quinjet and into the building. You zig-zagged through each floor. The first few were empty, but eventually you ran into some people. You quickly helped them out of the building to continue your search. You were almost done with you sweep when you felt the building tremble. You paused, glancing around.
âKid!â Tony shouted in the comms. âThe building is going down. Where are you?â
âUh⊠I donât think you want to know,â you responded.
âPlease tell me youâre not still in the building, Y/N,â Steve said.
âIâm sorry, Pa. Iâm almost done with my sweep. Just one last floor.â
âNo, Y/N! Get out of there now!â
âJust one more floor!â You sped away to get to the last floor.
âIâm on my way to you, Y/N,â Tony said. âMeet me at the Northwest window.â
âAlright. Iâm almostââÂ
You suddenly heard a loud cry. You turned to see a little girl huddled up in the corner as the buildingâs tremorâs worsened. Rushing to the little girl, you barely missed the ceiling caving down and breaking the floor.
âIâm outside the window, kid!â Tony exclaimed. âYou need to get here, now!â
âThereâs a kid in here!â You retorted, grabbing the little girl. You sped to the window. âYou need to take her.â You held her out to Tony.Â
âNot without you!â
âJust take her, Dad! Please!â
He quickly took her from your arms. âDonât do anything! Iâll be right back!â
He flew off and the floor began to crack worse beneath your feet. You knew, even with your super speed, that you wouldnât be able to make it out of the building without Tony coming for you. When another section of floor collapsed, you knew you needed to get out of there.
âDad!â You shouted.
âIâm almost there, honey!â He responded. âJust hang on!â
The floor cracked beneath you, sending you falling. You grasped onto the ledge.
âDad!â You screamed.
âAlmost, thereââ
âAHHH!â
The buildingâs roof collapsed, with the rest of the building following. You were pushed down with the debris, screaming.
âY/N!!!â A multitude of voices screamed over the comms.
But you didnât hear anything else, because you landed with a thud, hitting your head and blacking out before the rest of the building landed on you.
~~~
âTony, come take a rest,â Clint urged. âAt least drink something.â
You had been stuck under the building for hours at this point, with Tony working non-stop to try and get to you.Â
âI canât,â Tony responded. âMy kidâs down there.â
âScottâs almost here, heâll shrink down and see whatâs going on.â
âI canât afford to waste a second.â
âStark, we donât know if moving any of this will make it worse for her,â Bucky said. âWe could just be killing her faster.â
âYou donât think I know that!â Tony spun around. âBut sheâs the closest thing I have to a daughter! And Iâve already let her down once today.â
âYou didnât let her down.â
âIâm the one who told her to go into the building,â Steve said, everyone able to feel the self blame in his words. âI did this to her.â
âStop with the blame game here, guys,â Clint interrupted. âY/N wouldnât want that. Now, we needâ"
âIâm here! Iâm here!â Scott yelled, running up with Hope. âRomanoff and Banner got us hooked up to cameras and we brought extra Pym particles so that we can get her out of there.â He briefly made eye contact with Tony and Steve. âWeâre going to get her out of there.â
âWeâve got this,â Hope confirmed.
Shrinking, the two quickly got into the rubble. The others rushed over to the screens so that they could hear and see what was going on. It was dusty, that much was clear. But the couple were quick to follow FRIDAYâs leads on where to go. The AI was trying to to its best to sense were you were by heat signatures.
âMiss Y/N should be just below,â the AI informed the two in the debris.
âThere she is,â Steve breathed out, seeing your head on the screen. It was clear that blood had been, or still was, coming from somewhere on your head. âTell us whatâs going on guys. Whatâs her status?â
âSheâs breathing,â Hope confirmed. âSheâs scratched up, but it looks like the bleeding as stopped.â
âSheâs lost quite a bit of blood,â Scott added. He turned, revealing her bottom half, squished under a large piece of cement. âThatâs not good.â
âShit,â Tony whispered. âNo.â
âWe need to shrink her before the damage gets worse,â Hope said. âGet on the other side of her, Scott.â
âOn it,â Scott replied.
âYou ready?â
âUh-huh.â
âShrink her in 3, 2, 1.âÂ
Your body was quickly shrunk. Hope and Scott quickly worked together to secure you to Hope.
âOkay, sheâs secure,â Scott said. âWeâre on our way up.â
âYouâre going to want to get everything ready,â Hope warned. âWe arenât going to want to bring her back to normal size without being ready to work.â
âHelen Cho is waiting back at the compound with her team,â Bruce informed. âNatasha and I have the quinjet ready to stabilize her as much as we can on the way.â
âSteve, Tony, you may want to stay away. Itâs worse than the cameraâs probably caught.â
âNot a chance.â / âLike hell!â
âHope is right,â Clint said. âBruce needs to be able to check her out with out you two hovering.â He looked at Bucky, the two seemingly having a silent conversation. They both took a step towards the two other men. âWhen they bring her out, we canât have you two going all papa bears.â
âWeâre in the quinjet,â Scott informed.
Clint and Bucky were quick. Bucky went for Steve, fighting with him to slow him down. Clint quickly shot an arrow at Tonyâs arc reactor, shutting down the suit and effectively locking Tony in it. While that was happening, the others raced to the quinjet, getting it off the ground before the four men could get there.
Scott normalized himself first before helping Hope with herself and Y/N. Natasha and Bruce were waiting, ready to grab you as soon as they could. You were limp in Bruceâs arms, so incredibly so that it scared even the Hulk to his core. He and Natasha worked quickly and efficiently together to do everything they could before getting to the compound.
Back at the site, the four men had slowed down their fighting.
âHow could you do that Clint?â Tony asked, clearly hurt as he was able to get his helmet off. âYou have kids. You should understand the need to be with them when theyâre injured.â
âI do,â Clint replied. âThatâs why we knew we needed to stop the two of you.â
âWhatever happens, itâs going to be hard,â Bucky said. âAnd they need to be able to fully evaluate her. It was either this or sedation⊠Weâre sorry. We want to be there for her too."
~~~
It was two hours before Cho had finished running all the tests and an hour after that before Tony and Steve could wait at your bedside. You were all bandaged, bruised, and scrapped, but you were alive. Thatâs all that really matter. The test results had yet to come back, so the men had to try and be patient. You sucked in a breath, alerting the men to the possibility of you waking up.
âY/N?â Steve softly called. âYou there, doll?â
âPa?â You rasped, head turning towards the sound of his voice while your eyes crept open.
âHey.â He smiled.
âHi, kid,â Tony said.Â
You turned to look at him. âDad.â
âHow are you feeling?â
âLike I feel a hundred feet and then a building landed on me.â
âWeâre not surprised there,â Steve commented.
âHey, Y/N,â Helen Cho greeted as she walked into the room with her tablet. âHow are you doing? Any unusual pain?â
âWell the drugs youâve given me are trippy,â you replied.
âDrugs?â She repeated concerned, glancing at Tony and Steve.
âYeah. I can feel my upper half, but my waist and below are completely numb. What did you give me, doc?â
Helen immediately went to work. She tore off the blankets covering your feet and immediately began running her pen up and down them.
âWhatâs going on?â You asked, trying to sit up.
âSteve, go get Bruce,â Helen ordered. Steve nodded and rushed out.
You looked at Tony. âDad? Whatâs going on?â
âI-Iâ oh my gosh,â Tony stammered, hand covering his mouth.Â
âDad!â
âWe didnât give you any pain meds, Y/N,â Helen stated.
âWhat?â
âWe wanted to see if there was any damage done, so we didnât want the pain meds getting in the way.â
âSo⊠IâI⊠I canâtâŠâ You began hyperventilating. âIâŠâ
âHoney, lay down,â Tony urged, gently pushing you onto the bed. âBreathe.â
âIâm here!â Bruce said, hurrying in with Steve. âWe need to get her into the scanner and compare it to the other tests weâve taken.âÂ
Helen quickly went to the head of your bed, unlocking the wheels. All of this was scaring you.
âDad?â You looked at Tony, teary eyed, before looking at Steve. âPa?â They both grasped one of your hands.
âWeâre right here,â Steve said, bringing your hand up for a kiss as Helen and Bruce began to wheel you away.
âYou both need to stay here, while we run the scans,â Bruce said.
âNo! Please!â You pled, crying.
âIâll be with you, Y/N. Tony and Steve just need to stay here.â
Bruce and Helen pushed you away as you begged and cried out for Steve and Tony. The rest of the Team rushed into the hallway to see what was happening. They witnessed you being pushed down the hall.
âWhat the hell is going on?â Sam asked, looking into the room where Tony and Steve had been left. Both men looked distraught, and absolutely heartbroken.
âSteve?â Bucky questioned.
âShe⊠She⊠IâŠâ Steve couldnât pull his thoughts together.
âTony?â Natasha questioned.Â
The man fell back into a chair, burying his head in his hands. âShe couldnât feel her legs,â Tony whispered. âShe couldnât feel her legs.â
âShe thought they had given her pain killers,â Steve continued, whispering as well.
âSteve, sit down,â Bucky said, moving to help his friend. âYou look like you could pass out.â
âI might⊠she couldnât feel her legsâŠâ
âSheâs going to be alright,â Sam said. âY/Nâs a fighter.â
âYeah, but⊠she couldnât feel her legsâŠâ
~~~
After getting you into the scanner, Bruce and Helen actually gave you drugs to help you calm down. You were asleep almost as soon as they were injected. The two doctors worked together to look over each scan and previously done test. Only to reach the same conclusion each time. You were paralyzed. This brought on a multitude of worries, but the biggest one had to do with your abilities. Would you ever be able to use them again?Â
After finding out about the diagnosis, it was the first question to leave Tonyâs lips. Tony and Steve were standing outside your med-bay room, Helen and Bruce in front of them. The two doctors sighed, glancing at one another.
âNo,â Bruce answered. âShe wouldnât be able to use her abilities again.â
What they didnât know was that you had woken up just in time to hear Tony ask the question and Bruce answer it. Covering your mouth, you squeezed your eyes shut and tried to stop from sobbing.
âSheâs going to need help with everything, especially right now,â Helen continued for Bruce. âSheâs going to need to be looked after. And Iââ
âWeâll do it,â Steve replied, firmly. âWeâre her family, weâll take care of her.â
âI know that you twoâthis whole team, sees her as family. But this is going to be a long, hard road.â
âWhat are you saying?â Tony asked. âThat we send her away? Sheâs almost 17! Who would be willing to adopt her at that age? Especially when we are her family!â He motioned between himself and Steve. âWe are her fathers!â
âI understand, Tony. But you need to be prepared. Sheâs going to need help with the little everyday things. Bathing, getting changed, going to the bathroom. Somebodyâs going to need to help her with it.â
âWe will,â Steve repeated, still as firm as before. âWhatever she needs, for as long as she needs it. Whether itâs officially legal or not, she is our daughter and we will help her through it all.â
âI can make her braces,â Tony said. âJust like I did with Rhodes.â
âWe actually believe that it would be more valuable if she learns to live with a wheelchair first,â Bruce responded. âJust in case anything were to happen with the braces, that she wouldnât be completely helpless.â
âI agree with Bruce on this one,â Steve said. âShe needs to be able to live in a wheelchair before she tries braces.âÂ
âWe will have her in physical and occupational therapy such, so she doesnât lose all the muscles in her legs.â
Just then, Wanda rushed passed them, heading for your door. âWanda?â Steve questioned. âWhatâs going on?â
âThe pain,â Wanda replied. âSheâs in so much pain.â
Following Wanda into the room, they witnessed you trying to control your emotions. Though it was clear you were upset. Tony and Steve rushed to either side of you.
âItâs okay, honey,â Tony whispered, wiping tears off your cheeks. âItâs okay.â
âN-noâŠâ you rasped, shaking your head. âItâs⊠n-notâŠâ
âDid you hear what we were talking about?â Steve asked. You nodded. âIâm so sorry, doll. You shouldnât have had to find out that way.â
You couldnât stop the sobs at this point. You had just gotten the worse news you could have imagined. You were paralyzed and know unable to use your abilities. In your mind, you were basically useless.Â
Steve quickly got into bed with you, pulling you into his arms. As he cradled you, he tried to get you to calm down. He glanced around worriedly at everyone else in the room, who didnât know how to help.
~~~
âYou need to eat, Y/N,â Tony pressed, trying to hand you a plate again.Â
âIâm not hungry,â you replied, voice void of all emotion.
You had fallen asleep in Steveâs arms, where the two of you stayed until morning. Tony brought in breakfast while Steve went to get ready for the day.
âYou need to eat,â he said again.
âI said, Iâm not hungry,â you repeated.
Tony sighed, seating the plate down. âDo you not like waffles? I can have Happy go get something else. A burger? Fries? Ice cream?â
âI want my legs back.â
âKidââ
âDonât try to make me feel better about this. You have no understanding about how I am feeling.â
âI wasnât trying to. I justââ
âCan you leave me alone? I want to be alone.â
Tony knew that you just needed a moment. So without responding, he got up and left, closing the door behind him. He leaned against the wall next to it, running a hand down his face. The guilt he was feeling was real. If only he had grabbed you and the kid, or if he had just flown faster.
âYouâre going there too?â Steve asked, coming up to lean on the wall across from Tony.Â
âThe guilt is real,â Tony responded.
âYeah⊠I shouldnât have had her go into the building. What was I thinking?â
âI shouldnât have let her convince me to take the kid⊠but, I guess, feeling this way wonât do her any good now, will it?â
âNo, unfortunately, it wonât.â Steve looked at the closed door. âHow is she?â
âShe refused to eat⊠Iâm thinking about having Happy get all her favorite foods for lunch.â
âGood idea. Maybe we could even try the wheelchair out and bring her to the common area.â
âI like it.â
âIâll let everyone know about it.â
âYeah, Iââ
âExcuse me, Boss, Captain,â FRIDAY interrupted. âBut Y/N is in need of immediate assistance.â
~~~
After Tony left, you huffed. This was miserable. You didnât want to be stuck in this bed. And, honestly, the longer you sat there, the more you needed to go to the bathroom. You just didnât want to ask for help, you didnât want that to be your life. Studying the distance between your bed and the toilet for a few moments, you decided to get there yourself. Besides, they hadnât tried to stand you up and get you to walk, maybe this was all one big cruel joke.
Taking a deep breath, you flung your covers off. You pushed yourself towards the edge of the bed, helping your legs to rest over it. Other deep breath in and you pushed yourself off the bed, trying to stand. You immediately fell. Trying to brace yourself, you landed on your hands. One of your wrists cracked, failing to break your fall. In the midst of the struggle, your bladder decided to let loose, causing you to lay in a pool of your own pee. You clutched your wrist close to your chest as your door burst open, revealing two extremely worried men. You looked at them, with tears cascading down your cheeks.
âIâm so sorry,â you said. âI just wanted to do something by myself.â They looked at you with complete pity, which you absolutely hated.
âItâs okay,â Steve said, getting on the floor beside you, minding the puddle. He noticed your wrist. âDid you hurt yourself?â
You nodded. âIâm sorry.â
âIâll go run and get you clothes, sweetheart,â Tony said. âSteve will help you into the shower. Itâs all going to be okay.â He rushed out.
âNo it wonât,â you whispered as Steve scooped you up into his arms. âIt will never be again.â
And Steve thought his heart couldnât shatter more than it already had. As he lifted you, he could practically feel the weight that this was having on you. You wouldnât look at him as he took you into the bathroom and set you on the shower floor.
âCan I help you undress?â Steve asked.
You inhaled sharply, closing your eyes. This was your life now. Though you could undress yourself, you would always need help, basically be waited on all the time.
âIf you want, I can go grab Natasha,â Steve suggested. âOr Wanda. Or, Pepper might even be in today. You love Pepper.â
âI want to be alone,â you mumbled.
âY/N, I just want to help. Just let me help.â
âAnd I just want to be alone.â Tears were still falling, though you couldnât understand how.
âY/Nââ
âJust leave me alone!â You shouted, pushing yourself into the corner.
âWhatâs going on in here?â Tony asked, bringing in the clothes with Pepper following.
âLeave me alone!â
âWhy donât you guys wait outside?â Pepper suggested. âIâll help Y/N.â
Steve sighed, straightened up from his kneeled position and hurrying out of there. Tony looked at you sadly before taking his leave. Pepper shut the door and came to your side.
âWhat do you want me to do?â She asked softly.
âI want to be left alone,â you responded, frustrated and not willing to look her way.
âThatâs not going to happen and you know it, Tony and Steve wonât allow it. Those men out there care about you and are so extremely worried. All they want to do is help.â
âI donât care.â
She let out a small sigh. âWill you at least let me help? We need to get you out of those clothes and washed up. Especially since that wrist needs to get checked out.â
After a moment, you gave in and looked at her. âOkay.â
Pepper smiled at you briefly. âOkay.â
~~~
Apparently, there was already a hairline fracture in your wrist because of the accident. Your fall off the bed didnât do anything to help it. You had willingly let Pepper help you clean up, but other than that you were still fighting asking for help.
The Team had tried to lift your spirits at lunch out in the common area, but to no avail. After that, you were taken to your regular room, where a twin bed had been added.
âWhatâs that?â You asked, you hadnât spoken since the bathroom.Â
âSomeone is going to stay in here with you until things start becoming normal again,â Steve replied, pushing the wheelchair further into the room.Â
âNormal,â you scoffed.
âBuck and I were thinking we could have a movie night today. Maybe try and watch all of theââ
âI just want to sleep.â
âThatâs okay too.â
âI would be here too kid,â Tony added, âbut Pep and I are working out somethings with the physical therapist.â
âWhatâs the point of physical therapy? My legs donât work.â
âItâs to keep your muscles, so that one day you can get braces.â
You nodded, glancing around until you were staring at your tennis shoes on the floor. They were brand new, Stark designed shoes. They were meant to not wear as fast because of your speeding abilities. Your speeding abilities that you could no longer access.
âCan you do something with those?â You asked, pointing at them.Â
Both Tony and Steve looked over. They got a tad deflated after remembering how excited you had been about those shoes.
âYeah, sure, kid,â Tony responded, grabbing them. âIâll just put them up in your closet. We canââ
âNo,â you interrupted. âI want them gone.â
âY/Nââ
âI donât need any reminders of what Iâm now unable to do.â
âSweetheart,â Tony got down in front of you, âyou can still, or will be able to, do a lot. You got lucky.â He immediately regretted his last sentence, even Steve flinch.
âI got lucky? I. Got. Lucky?â
âY/N, thatâs not whatââ
âGet the hell out!â
âHey, thatâs not how you talk to yourââ
âMy what? Father?! Cause you arenât, remember? Maybe you should take Helenâs advice and give me away! Might make it easier on everyone!â
âYou are my daughter, damn it! Whether itâs official or not, or by blood!â
âY/N, Tonyââ Steve tried to interrupt.Â
âNo! I actually will say that you got lucky. You did because you have people willing to help you, willing to support you.â
âWell stop!â You shouted back. âHave you ever thought that I donât want any of your help?! Maybe I think that you should have just left me down there to die! It would have been better that way! Iâm basically useless like this!â
âEnough!â Bucky yelled, barging in with Nat. âSteve, Tony, out.â
With a glare sent their way from Nat, the two men didnât even argue. You were refusing to look at Bucky and Nat. Half embarrassed that you said those things to the men you considered your dads, and half embarrassed that you were believing the terrible thoughts your mind was taunting you with.
Bucky and Natasha looked at each other, unsure of what exactly to do. You let them help you into bed before they left you alone, leaving with a promise to bring food later.Â
In the loneliness of your bedroom, you let your thoughts consume you. How you were now useless as an Avenger without being able to have super speed. How you wished they would have just let you die. How you wish they wouldnât be so helpful, it was driving you crazy. How you really didnât have any family, you were all alone.
~~~
To respect your boundaries, Tony and Steve decided to let the others help them. No matter how hard it was. It hurt them to see you struggling through everything and not rush to your side. Not that you would let them help, you werenât letting anyone without putting up a fight.
Steve and Tony had had many talks since they realized you were wishing that you had just died. Tony had made sure that FRIDAY had surveillance on you 24/7 and the Team, besides Tony and Steve, were switching sleeping in your room every night.Â
It wasnât easy on anyone, especially since you were having nightmares about being stuck down in the debris. Someone would wake you from the dream, only to be quickly shut out. The terrors would leave you trembling, sweating, and in a state of panic. But, with you not willing to let people help, the others were forced to watch you struggle with this.
Physical and occupational therapy was a whole other issue. You were rude to the therapists and unwilling to do anything. As the weeks went by, the Team could see the affect it was happening on your legs and they were concerned. Steve and Tony would watch each session from above, angry at the whole situation.
It had been two months since the whole incident, and you still werenât showing any signs of changing your attitude any time soon.
âCome on, Y/N,â your therapist sighed. âWhat Iâm asking you to do isnât all that hard. Iâm going to do all the work.â
âNo,â you stated, determined.
âY/Nââ
âWhy donât you go help someone whoâs more able to do things? Maybe someone who will actually get better. Iâm sure theyâd love your help."
âI canât watch this anymore,â Tony said to Steve, watching from above. âSheâs hurting herself.â
âYou know we canât force her to do anything, Tony,â Steve replied. âWe have to let her do this on her own.â
âNo, we donât.â Tony turned around and headed for the room you were currently in.
âTony! What are you going to do?â
âUse the hate she is harboring towards what happened, towards us, for her benefit.â
Tony burst into the room, causing you and the therapist to jump. You furrowed your brows, confused at what Tony and Steve could possibly be doing here.
âHand me your leg, Y/N,â Tony demanded.
âWhat? No,â you responded.
âHand me your damn leg!â
âNo!â
âFine!â Tony marched over and picked you up from your wheelchair.
âPut me down!â You tried to push off Tony. âLet me go!â
âTony!â Steve called. âWhat are you doing?â
âItâs time for some tough love,â Tony responded. He set you down, not gently, on a therapy table. He grabbed your leg and began doing the exercises.
âLet go of me!â You demanded, trying to reach and pry him away, but failing.Â
âNo! Donât you see what you are doing to yourself? What youâre doing to those around you?! You are miserable and you are making others miserable! Yes, what happened to you was absolute shit. Trust me, Steve and I will have that guilt with us for the rest of our lives. But itâs up to you to decide how to come out of this. You ever fight to live, fight to find the new normal, or you let yourself whither away. And Iâm not about to let that last one happen.â
âYou may think youâre alone in this, but you arenât,â Tony continued. âSteve and I, the Team, we all want to help you through this. Even if that means sticking with you for life.â
During Tonyâs whole thing, you had began crying. He was right, you were making yourself and everyone around you miserable.
âIâm sorry,â you cried out. âIâm so sorry⊠I just⊠I just wishâŠâ
âI know, honey, I know,â Tony said, moving to pull you into his chest. You melted into him, crying. He placed a kiss on your head. âIâve got you⊠Iâve got you.â
âDonât leave me, Dad.â
âIâm not going anywhere.â
Steve came over and grabbed one of your hands, gently kissing it. You gave his hand a squeeze.
âIâm sorry, Pa,â you croaked.
âItâs okay,â Steve replied with a tiny smile. âNo need to apologize. Just please donât say that you would have rather died again. I donât think I could take it if you did.â
âIf I died or said it again?â
âBoth.â
âIâm sorry.â
âI know.â
âWill you guys⊠uh, will you guys help me with my exercises?â
âOf course, honey,â Tony replied. âBut maybe Steve should do the other leg, because I think I wore myself out.â
Steve stood. âIâll exercise that leg better than you could, Stark,â he commented.
âOh, youâre on, Rogers.â Tony swiftly stood up.
âGreat,â you muttered. âNow this is going to be a thing.â
~~~
Now that you were accepting help, things were beginning to look up again. Not that things werenât hard, but they were better and you could handle it all better. The Team had decided to celebrate, but wouldnât tell you how. Wheeling your wheelchair into the common area, you found it pitch black.
âFRIDAY,â you called out to the AI, âcan I get some lights?â
âOf course,â the AI responded.
The lights came on and suddenly you were being pelted with water from squirt guns. The Team came out of their hiding spots, laughing, as they continued to fire at you.
âGuys!â You squealed, trying to shield yourself. âGuys! St-stop!â
âNever!â Sam exclaimed as he made his way closer to you.
âHere,â Peter said, lowering himself from the ceiling. âTake this.â He offered you a large gun. âSave yourself.â
You laughed as you began to fight back. Suddenly, you were pulled backwards by both Steve and Tony, who were trying to use you and the chair as protection.
âTheyâve turned against us!â Tony exclaimed.
âHelp us, Y/N!â Steve added.
You couldnât stop laughing as you, Tony and Steve worked together to try and defeat the others. The Team couldnât stop smiling as they watched you act so happy. It was so refreshing. After the common room was all but turned into a pool, the Team decided to change and then meet down in the movie room to relax for the night. When Y/N had arrived down there, Tony and Steve had saved a place between them.
âCan I help you onto the couch?â Steve asked.
You responded with a nod and let Steve pick you up, wrapping your arms around his neck. He carefully guided you through the maze of lodging teammates to the spot him and Tony had chosen on the couch.
âThanks Pa,â you said as he set you down. You pulled your legs up close to you.
âNot a problem,â he smiled, sitting down beside you.
Tony spread a blanket over you guys. âThanks, Dad.â
âOf course,â Tony responded, leaving a little kiss on your forehead.
You curled up against Tony as Steve moved your legs to rest over his lap, allowing him to massage them. FRIDAY quickly turned on your favorite movie. You glanced around, taking in everyone around you, and you couldnât be more grateful. Though your life was going to continue to have its challenges, you were glad you had found this family.

Sounds of horns and shouting filled the air outside as you stood on the packed bus. Cramped in from every side, it was hard for you to tell where you were going. Not as if you were paying much attention anyways.
âOkay, you left fish and pasta in the fridge⊠he could use the tv or read a book for entertainment while you are goneâŠwhat aboutâŠâ You ramble incoherently to yourself.
Even though the storm hit Athens hard yesterday, your studio art professor was still having classes today. Forcing you to leave Triton alone at home. You shouldnât be nervous. There was no reason to. After all, Triton is a god, he was hundreds of years old.
ButâŠ, he was still a child. No matter how old or what type of being he is. He could still possibly injure himself or get into trouble. And that single fact alone made you feel sick to your stomach.
âIs this how parents feel leaving their child alone for the first timeâŠ?â You groan to yourself, leaning your head forward so it hits the window in front of you.
âNow Approaching *Athens International School of Art*. I repeat, Nowââ The robotic voice announces over the intercom. At the familiar name of your college, you squeeze your way through the other patrons on the bus to make your way to the doors.
Sweet, sweet air, you think to yourself as soon as you exit the bus. It was starting to get way too cramped in there. So much so, you wondered if it was a safety hazard. Though it wasnât as if you were one to talk, you left a little boy aloneâ
âArgh!â You scream out, slapping the cheeks of your face. You needed to stop thinking of Triton. He was going to be completely fine. But, what ifâŠ
âIâm getting too attached alreadyâŠâ You groan to yourself. It had only been a day. One singular Day. But you were already smitten by the blonde haired child. âIt doesnât help that he's absolutely adorable as wellâŠâ
âWhoâs adorable?â A voice calls out from behind you, making you jump in surprise. Whipping around, you let out a sigh once you identify who it was.
âBryce⊠how many times have I told you not to sneak up on me like thatâŠâ
Bryce Kroger. He was studying abroad at Athens International School of Art for a year just like you except he was instead an architecture major. You met him by coincidence while taking art history so you didnât know much about the guy, the only thing being the few stories he told you about his home country of Australia.
âOi! Itâs not my fault you're so skittish!â Bryce banters back with a huff.
âWhateverâŠâ
âEh? Wait, where you heading?â Bryce questions as he watches you walk away, âI thought you had Studio Art on Fridays?â
âI do. Iâm heading to the library first though.â You yell back to the tall male who stayed put where he was standing. Not even bothering to follow you.
âYou need to stop studying so much!â
âShut up!â
âITâS THE TRUTH!â
âSHUT UP!â You scream back with one final huff before storming off. So what if you studied so much. You just wanted to get good grades in the classes that counted. Itâs how you got here in the first place. By working your ass off.
Unconsciously, you feel your hand twitch as you open the library door. So what if you spent hours studying. So what if you didnât go out with friends that often. So what if you didnât have a social life. So whatâ
You feel yourself pause, your expression turning sour. Lonely. Thatâs what you were. You were lonely. A miserable lonely girl.
âMiss!â
Startled out of your thoughts by the sudden call, you realize you were no longer standing at the front door but instead standing in front of one of the librarians. You must have unconsciously walked up to the front desk while you were lost in thought.
âA-Ah. Sorry, I was just looking for books on Leonarââ
You feel your voice trail off at the end as a book on the counter catches your eye. It wasnât the gold detailing nor the leather texture. No. It was the simple words of âGreek Mythology: Tales of Zeusâ printed neatly on the front.
ââŠActually, Do you perhaps have any books about Poseidon?â
You just found something better to do with your time.
â.â.â.â.â
âDamn⊠this is extremely confusingâŠâ You mumble to yourself as you glare at the pages of notes in front of you. Each book seemed to be a little bit different from the last. âPerhaps I should recapâŠâ
Okay, so what makes sense to you is that Poseidon is the second eldest of three brothers and is the ruler of the seas. The things that donât make sense are⊠practically everything elseâŠ
You werenât sure if you wanted to cry or scream out of frustration right now.
According to the books, Poseidon has had many consorts over the years. One of them being Tritonâs mother, AmphitriteâŠ
âMy mother⊠can be quite mean to other women. Even to some of the female servants around the palace. She believes that they are trying to seduce my fatherâŠâ
âŠbut that doesnât match up with what Triton mentioned last night. According to him, it sounds like Amphitrite scared away any women that would even come near Poseidon. This also leads to another flaw in the mythology books. You doubted that Poseidon would be able to have an affair with any other women with Amphitrite antics, nevertheless have 10 other children with them.
âTriton also never mentioned having any other siblingsâŠâ
Letting out a groan, which you seemed to be doing a lot today, you banged your head against the table. It seems like these mythology books werenât going to be of any help after all. ThoughâŠ. you couldnât help but wonder why the books were so off in the first place.
Lifting yourself back up from the table, you glare down at one of the book covers. It was blue, almost silvery in a way, with a giant black silhouette of Poseidon right smack dab in the middle. Or, at least, what Poseidon might look likeâŠ
âWell, my father is extremely strong and handsome. All the sea nymphs stare at him with big heart eyes half the time. Oh! B-but, father doesnât pay any attention to them. Father is not a cheater like uncle ZeusâŠâ
ââŠIs FatherâŠ? Oh. Heâs alright⊠Heâs nowhere as bad as my mother. Heâs never hit me or anything. Heâs just⊠cold. Extremely cold. He really just ignores me half the timeâŠâ
ââŠI do love my fatherâŠI just wished he would at least spare me a glanceâŠyou know?âŠAcknowledge his own sonâŠâ
âGod damn jerk!â You hiss out in anger as you push the book aside. Your blood practically boiling at even the slightest thought of Tritonâs father, Poseidon. He doesnât deserve to have such a good and nice son like Triton.
However, as much as you want to curse out Poseidon more, you realized class would be starting soon and you really had to get a move on.
âShit. I canât afford to be late again.â
â.â.â
âUgh. Why did the professor have to assign me this type of painterâŠ?!â You whined to Yuri. Class had already ended by then with the professor long gone. The only people left were students that were conversing with others or trying to get a head start on their paintings.
âWell, it didnât help that you barged into class late for the second time this week, (y/n).â Yuri explained with a sigh as she continued to set up her palette, not even sparing you a glance.
Yuri Saito, Or rather Saito Yuri, was an abroad student from Japan. She was the closest person you knew at the college as you both were similar in many ways. Especially since you were both homebodies.
âI get that but at least I showed up in the firââ
â(Y/n)!â A voice shouts out interrupting your talk with Yuri. You turn around to see Bella Woods, a student apart of your major, approaching you. â(Y/n). You were part of your student council back in high school right?â
âUh, Yeah. Why?â You answered hesitantly. You werenât sure why, perhaps instincts, but you were already having a bad feeling about this situation.
âWell I need your help on somethingâŠâ Bella explains, her voice trailing off at the end as she grabs something from her bag. Itâs a piece of paper, a flier to be exact.
âAâŠA Cultural Festival?â
Bella nods her head at your words, âYeah. The college wanted to put something on for the public to show what our art school is all about and Mrs. Yamamoto suggested this. A-Apparently, itâs something schools and colleges do back in Japan.â
âB-But how can I help? Wouldnât it make sense for someone like Yuri to do this? Since sheâs from Japan and all.â
It was the truth. You didnât know a single thing about japanese culture festivals.
âHey donât drag me into this, Iâm busy.â Yuri counterbacks with a glare before returning back to her painting.
âWell⊠you see⊠The school wanted to change Mrs. Yamamotoâs idea a bit since they really didnât know anything about Japanese Cultural festivals either. So itâs like a Cultural festival, kind of not.â Bella rambled. You could tell all this information was scrambling her brain as well. âBasically, itâs like a Greek version of a Cultural festival where each major picks a Greek god and plans an event or booth around it.â
ââŠOkay⊠So itâs just like a school festival in a way?â You questioned cautiously. This was a lot for you to take in at once.
âYes. Precisely. We are just taking inspiration from Cultural festivals.â
âOkay. OkayâŠâ You answer as you rub the back of your neck, âI still donât understand why you need me though?â
âWell, I kind of⊠kind of saw you reading the mythology books in the library today and we need more people on the planning committeeâŠâ Oh, god. It seems like everything is coming back to bite you in the ass, ââŠJust. Please (y/n), We need your help!â
You let out a small sigh as you watch Bella give you a pleading look, âFineâŠâ
âYayâ!â
âButâŠâ You start cutting off Bellaâs cheers, âBut Iâm taking care of something really important right now at home so I canât always make meetings and things like that. I can help with planning but thatâs it. Okay?â
That was correct. As much as you wanted to help Bella and your department out with this festival, Triton was your top priority right now. His care and needs were above all else right now, even your own. So if this would get in the way of that then you would drop this project instantly. Instantly.
âOf course! Oh, thank you (y/n)!â Bella cheers, her body visibly relaxing now that a stress has been taken off your shoulder, âWell, Iâm not sure if you're busy right now but⊠the committee is currently planning two classrooms down⊠so if you couldâŠâ
âIâll goâŠâ You sighed out. Damn, whatâs with you lately. Less than two days ago, people hardly approached you. Now you are as busy as a bee. A person magnetic⊠Well, more like god magnetic as welâ
Wait, a minute. You feel yourself tense up as a thought flies into your brain. If Gods could travel and spend time on earth, could they live here as well? Just like how Triton wants to?
Shit. What if some that live here are able to identify Triton? You could be in big troubâ
â(Y/n)? Are you coming?â Bella calls, snapping you out of your thoughts.
âY-yes.â
It seemed you would have to worry about that later. Not that it mattered right now, you could always just ask Triton when you got home. And even if he didnât know the answer you would just have to be careful bringing him out of the house. Yeah⊠you would just do that.
âGuys, I would like to introduce you to (y/n). Sheâs a fine arts major just like us and knows about mythology. I think she would make a great addition to our group.â Bella introduces you as you enter the room. As you looked around the group of only 4 other people, you realized you really didnât know anyone.
That is until everyone started to introduce themselves. You never heard of the first threeâBrian, James and Kyleâbut you found the last name, Marissa Samudra, quite familiar. You wonder if she was that Marissa.
Who you were talking about was Marissa, the hottest girl in school Marissa. Well, at least thatâs what all the boys in your major told you. The girl in front of you at least seemed to fit the part. With white silk like skin, light green eyes and dyed coral pink hair, she truly was a sight to see.
âOkay. So shall we get started.â James suddenly spoke up, seeming to want to get the meeting started. You nodded your head in agreement before taking a seat next to Holly. As well as across from Marissa. âWell, I think we should first decide which god we should do. Culinary, Music, Visual performing arts and architecture already have chosen Aphrodite, Hades, Ares and Zeus. (Y/n)âŠâ
You lift your head up at the call of your name.
ââŠas you know the most about Mythology, who do you think we should pick?â
âWell,âŠâ You feel yourself pause, your palms growing sweaty out of nervousness. You really didnât know that much about Greek Gods, only the class you took last year and the books you skimmed this morning. You also didnât expect so many of the main gods to be taken already.
ââŠHow aboutâŠâ
You needed to think of someone fast. Someone that would satisfy all parties here. Someone that would bedazzle people coming to the festival.
ââŠPoseidonâŠ?â
Why⊠Why was that what your brain had come up with? Poseidon? The very god that you were cursing out this morning. Wishing near death upon.
âFish man?â Brian questioned, letting out a small chuckle at his own joke, âYou really want to go with Fish man as our god? Isnât there anyone better?â
âI think Poseidon is prettyâŠcool.â You feel a shiver go up your spine as you compliment the man. It was official, you might actually puke. ââŠHeâs the king of the seas. It gives us a lot to work with for his character. Especially since most Fine Arts students are good at realistic elements, we could really do well on painting or using sea life.â
âTrue⊠butââ
âI think itâs a wonderful idea.â
You are shocked as you hear Marissa cut Brian off. When you first sat down, she seemed totally uninterested in the topic at hand. Caring more about her hair and nails than anything else. But now, now, she was paying attention to every little thing. You couldnât help but wonder why. âOh sorry. I really like the sea. It holds a special place in my heart⊠you know?â
Oh, that makes sense. You totally forgot Marissaâs paintings were mostly about the ocean and sea. Never drifting off to other topics.
âN-no. Thatâs actually pretty cool. You know what, we should totally do Posedin⊠or whatever the dudeâs name is. He sounds really cool.â Bryan agrees as he bashfully rubs the back of his neck. Gross, could he make it any less obvious that he was smitten by her. And not in a nice way either.
You feel yourself shiver as you watch him sneak small glances down at Marissaâs chest area. Disgusting pervertâŠ
âWell, with that decided letâs move onâŠâ
âŠGreat⊠You could already tell this was going to be a long meetingâŠ
â.â.â.â.â
Again, for what felt like the hundredth time today, you banged your head against the wall. This time however it was against the door of your apartment.
âSeriously⊠a CafĂ©âŠ?â
Yes, a CafĂ©. Thatâs the brilliant idea your group came up with. An under the sea type themed cafĂ©.
In hindsight it didnât sound all that bad. You could have a couple of students paint some props and decorations. Then another couple of students who know how to cook plan out the menu. Maybe even borrow some culinary students if you were lucky.
But,⊠thereâs that.
Outnumbered three to two, the boys of your group insisted the girls that are serving customers should wear togas. Togas. They stated it was to bring in more customers but it was pretty obvious they had other intentions behind it. Especially since they didnât even bother waiting a couple of minutes afterwards to ask if Marissa wanted to be part of the waiting staff.
âPoor girl⊠I feel bad for her.â You mumble to yourself as you pull out your keys, finally unlocking the door to your apartment. You wished you could just beat all those men senseless with a baseball bat. âThatâs actually not a bad idea⊠Could I bring a wooden club and say that it's part of the character? They seem to not know that much aboutââ
âMiss (y/n)!â You hear shouted as something comes barreling into you. Knocking you onto the ground right as you enter your apartment. âO-oops I meant to only say (y/n)âŠâ
Even though you got the air literally knocked out of you, you still let out a small chuckle as you reached up to run a hand through the perpetratorâs locks. Tritonâs blonde locks. âItâs okay. I only told you this morning to stop referring to me so formally. It will take time for you to get used to it.â
Suddenly, you wince at a feeling of pain as you move slightly. Triton sure was strong. You, honestly, wondered if he held back some strength when he jumped at you. If so, you wondered how strong Triton was nonetheless an adult god.
Speaking of an adult godâŠ
âHey Triton.â The boy lifts his head up at your call, âDo any gods live on earth?â
The boy seemed to take a moment to think, âWell kind of? Not really Greek Gods though. Most of them are too proud to live with humans.â
âOh well thatâs gooâ Wait, a minute! Other gods are real as well!?â
Triton nods his head furiously, âYeah pretty much all gods. As long as it is considered as one, it exists. Thereâs Nordic godsâŠ, Indian godsâŠ, Oh! Even Buddha. I like Buddha, even though Iâve only met him once. He introduced me to salt water taffy! Itâs delicious.â
âI-I seeâŠIâll try to get you some then. Another time.â As much as you wanted to hide your surprise you couldnât. Learning that Greek Gods actually existed was one situation but learning that All Gods existed was a whole nother ball game. Did that mean demons existed as well?
âHey (y/n). Could I ask you a question?â Triton asks, suddenly seeming bashful all of a sudden.
âSure. Whatâs up?â
âCould IâŠâ Triton pauses for a moment, âCould I call youâŠâ
You leaned closer to Triton as his voice slowly got softer and softer at the end. His ears and cheeks were bright red as he waited for you to answer. However, you couldnât answer him as you didnât hear the last part of what he said.
âI apologize. Could you repeat what you said, Triton? I couldnât hear the end of it.â You felt bad for asking him to repeat it as his face only seemed to get even more red when you asked.
âI-I⊠Could I call you⊠Mom?â
It was silent as his question, or rather request, fell upon your ears. You thought about it for a moment. Especially whether it was morally right for you to have him call you âmomâ. Even if his true mother was a terrible person, she was still his mother.
Though, then again, She really didnât act like his mother. Especially in all her hundreds of years of existence of having him. At least from what youâve heard from Triton. Sheâs had plenty of chances to show her love for him and she never did.
âOfâŠOf course you can.â
You feel yourself smile as Tritonâs face lit up. And you knew, Deep down inside, that you did the right thing. You would show this boy the love he deserved.
âHey (Yâ Mom.â You giggle at how Triton seemed to practically beam with happiness once the title left his lips.
âYes, Triton?â
âCould we have dinner right now?â
You feel yourself jump up a little in surprise. Since you stayed later than what you usually would, due to the meeting, you didnât have anything prepared ahead of time for dinner.
âAh, yes. Do you think you could wait in the living room while I prepare it?â
âOf course!â Triton answers as he scrambles up off of you. As you make your way to the kitchenâwhich was technically in the same room as the living roomâto start dinner, you find yourself drifting off into your thoughts.
You realized you really hadnât thought this through. Taking care of Triton and all. Your apartment was small, he didnât have his own room, he seemed to eat a lot more than a human boy his physical age and so much more.
You wouldnât be able to buy a bigger apartment right now. Going through college and all. But you could take more shifts at work. After all, it was literally down the street. You were also good friends with the owner of the toy shop next door. You bet he would allow Triton to play with a couple of toys while you worked.
As you continue to list things you would need to take care of Triton especially if it was long term, Triton was watching cartoons on the couch.
ââŠWonder cats will be right back!âŠâ
As the show goes to commercial break, Triton feels himself let out a sigh. Television sure was awesome and all, much better than the plays and coliseum matches used to entertain gods, but he despised ads more than anything.
âWho in the world created such a malicious thingâŠâ
Tritonâs voice trails off at the end as the ad changes to another. As he stares at the screen, he feels a shiver shoot down his spine. As quickly as he could, Triton changes the channel to another before shakily dropping the television remote. A cold sheen of sweat breaks out all over his skin as he collapses back onto the couch.
To anyone else, the commercial before looked like any normal hair dye commercial seen on Tv. But not to Triton. Especially when he saw something oh so familiar.
âT-that hair colorâŠâ Triton feels himself shiver at the thought, âL-looked too much like Aunties. MomâsâŠNoâŠ
âŠAmphitriteâs Sister.â
Author Note: Ahhh this chapter contained so much but I knew I couldnât split it up. Especially if I was doing posting Tuesdays and Thursdays. I was worried that the time frame in between would mess my readers up. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this Chapter. I know there wasnât a lot of Triton moments but I wanted to get the ball rolling on the plot so that things and certain characters (*cough* Poseidon *cough*) will appear soon. Well thatâs it for now, see you next time :)))

Raise the Barre (Ch. 6)
Author: kpopfanfictrash
Pairing: Jimin / Reader
Rating: 18+ (Eventual Smut)
Genre: Enemies to Lovers / Dance Academy!AU
Warnings: Underage drinking, sexual harassment (not from any of the main characters)Â
Word Count: 7,295
Summary: You and Park Jimin have been rivals for as long as youâve known one another; ever since he tripped you in the front row of your first dance convention. When you graduate from high school and enter Russet Ballet Academy, you tell yourself youâre leaving all past quarrels behind. The main problem with this though, is that your past seems determined not to leave you alone.
Worse still, the obstacles you face while out in the real world might prove more challenging than anything your enemy has to offer. Â
Dr. Gonzalezâs assessment of your ankle turned out to be correct; by the end of the week, you were feeling much better. You had to give some of the credit to Jimin, whoâd been like a hawk in his watchfulness all week. The second you landed a difficult jump, Jimin would pop up beside you like the worst kind of clickbait, scolding you for not marking your movements.
At first, it drove you crazy â it was like having your parents out on the dance floor. Each time you pliĂ©d, Jimin would clench his jaw hard enough to crack walnuts. It got to the point though, where you began to find it amusing, pretending to do something full-out just to mess with him.
Jimin didnât find this as amusing as you did.
The Monday following your injury, you returned to Dr. Gonzalezâs office for a check-up. After examining your ankle and a few routine tests, she nodded in satisfaction and declared you fit to dance. A massive weight lifted from your chest, you practically bounded upstairs and into ballet.
Mr. Vladâs ballet class wasnât the type of place people usually bounded to, so you drew several stares when you entered the room. Dropping your bag beside Noelle, you stood at the barre and began to shed your warm-ups.
âIt feels so good to be back,â you groaned, lifting your leg.
Noelle grinned, mirroring your movement. âItâs good to have you back,â she agreed. âI felt like a worried mom all week, constantly watching out for your ankle. Now, I can finally be selfish again.â
You laughed. âWell, thank god for that.â
âMiss Y/L/N!â Smiling, Mr. Vlad came to a stop alongside you. âGood as new, I take it?â he said, glancing down.
âYep,â you said, rolling your ankle in a circle to show. âDr. Gonzalez cleared me to dance earlier this morning.â
âGood, good.â He nodded. âIâm glad to hear it. Itâs always a shame to see talented dancers injured. Make sure you donât jump back in too quickly, though. Take it easy.â
âWill do,â you said, somewhat dazed as he turned to walk away.
Noelle leaned forward. âDude,â she whispered, staring at his back. âMr. Vlad just called you a talented dancer. Mr. Vlad. Vlad Copson.â
âI know,â you whispered, trying to stifle a laugh. âWow.â
It was a wow moment indeed, since before now you hadnât been sure whether Mr. Vlad even liked you. Heâd given you and Jimin a compliment a few weeks prior, but everything else you received from him was criticism. Despite knowing this to be his reputation as a teacher, you honestly had no idea where you stood with him at all.
Hearing him call you talented was enough for you to hope it would be a good day. Barre passed by quickly and, true to your word, you tried not to overdo things. Despite your initial positivity, it soon became apparent youâd fallen behind. By the time you finished barre and walked to the center, your earlier enthusiasm had somewhat waned.
Although youâd improved since the start of the year, taking a week off had put a damper on your progress. Even just seven days of marking was enough for you to feel lost while moving through the combinations. Luckily, Jimin was there to help you remember the steps.
âLuckily, Jiminâ was never a phrase you thought youâd say and yet, here you were. Aligned by the same goal, Jimin had proven himself to be a useful partner. Nearly a month into your truce, things were going well between you. Steps came easier once you were certain he wouldnât drop you on purpose.
Obviously, you still had work to do between you, but it was easier without constantly wondering what Jimin was thinking. Trust was tricky enough without years of rancor between you, but somehow you and Jimin were making this work.
Miss Britt had explained during your first week that pairings at Russet were random on purpose. It was one of the most valuable lessons your first year could teach you, sheâd said â learning to trust someone you didnât choose for yourself.
Oftentimes, your company or choreographer would pick your partner. Even if you didnât like them as a person, you needed to learn to trust them as a dancer, which was something you had no experience in before. By this point though, you found you no longer harbored dislike for Jimin as a person or as a dancer.
Jimin helped you during the week, walking you through tricky steps youâd missed the week prior. He even stayed late one night to practice a lift without you even needing to ask. By the time Friday rolled around, you felt almost completely caught up in your classes.
Miss Brittâs class was quickly becoming a favorite. She was more modern than some of the other teachers, choreographing to contemporary music instead of the traditional classical. This alone was enough to make you ecstatic, but she also encouraged improvisation.
You supposed this was why Miss Britt had suggested you practice the fundamentals. It was impossible to learn the fun, partner lifts if you couldnât even complete a pirouette.
Todayâs combination was one of the hard ones â Miss Britt tended to do that on Fridays, adding more complicated moves as a way to end the week. This turned out to be both blessing and curse, since it was fun to branch out, but it came at a cost.
âAnd â from the top!â Miss Britt called from the front. âSissonne, sissonne! Cabriole, and chassĂ© â tour jetĂ©! PliĂ©! And rise â hold! PliĂ©, battement and grand fouettĂ©!â
Seokjin stood at her side, demonstrating the moves with grace and poise. Every now and again, Miss Britt would join in to show particularly tricky footwork.
By the time you executed the combination full out, you and Jimin were sweating, fingers slipping while you grabbed at each otherâs hands. Grand fouettĂ©s â sometimes called Italian fouettĂ©s â were difficult enough without adding pointe shoes and a partner. In grand fouettĂ©s, the woman did a grand battement effacĂ© (facing forward), swept her leg through first position while turning, only to end up facing the same way with her leg in attitude derriĂ©re (behind her, and bent). All of this, of course, occurred within two counts of eight.
Jimin helped you balance, although he needed to move fast to avoid getting kicked in the head by your leg. The combination moved across the floor, starting in one corner of the room and ending up in another. By the time youâd practiced the moves a few times, both of you were dripping sweat on the floor.
âShit.â Gasping for air, Jimin lowered both hands to his knees. âMiss Britt isnât taking things easy on us, huh?â
Silently, you shook your head no, as you fought to catch your breath.
âAlright!â Miss Britt clapped her hands together. âLine up in the corner and weâll go two couples at a time. Sabrina, Paulo, Alex and Jasmine â youâre first.â
Sabrina and Paulo were practicing close by, dutifully finishing the steps of the combination. While you watched, you saw Sabrina wobble and Pauloâs hand slip from hers. Sabrina managed to keep her balance, but her timing was thrown, and she missed the last fouettĂ©.
âSabrina!â Miss Britt called out sharply. âBe sure to stay on the beat!â
Stricken, Sabrinaâs head turned as she finished. Landing in fifth, she managed a nod before she turned to cross the room. Paulo followed suit, swallowing at the look of annoyance she shot him.
Once they were in the corner and ready to go, Miss Britt motioned the accompanist to play as she crossed her arms.
As the music began, the first group moved forward. This time, Sabrina got her timing right for the fouettĂ© turns, but still didnât seem happy. Finishing the combination, Sabrina struck her ending pose â only to exhale, expression dropping as soon as she stalked from the floor.
Miss Britt didnât seem to notice, her attention already moved on to watch the next group. Nudging Jimin with your elbow, you indicated you both should move up in line. Noelle and Eamon were in the second group across the floor, so you two would be next, along with Irene and Brian.
Waiting to start, Jimin exhaled and rolled his neck. Glancing sideways, you were surprised to find you also felt nervous. This was a difficult combination, so you couldnât expect to do things perfectly, but the fact that Sabrina had failed didnât bode well for you at all.
âNext group!â Miss Britt called.
Breathing deeply, you placed your hand in Jiminâs and fell into tombĂ©. Your first steps were in unison, feet skimming the floor while you traveled forward. Jiminâs hands gripped your waist, lifting you easily to set you back on the ground. Each step flowed to the next, barely allowing time to think as your limbs found each other.
Even the complicated footwork section was in tandem, Jiminâs pliĂ© matching yours when he lifted you overhead. The ending segment â a series of partnered jetĂ©s, culminating in a grand jetĂ© â happened easily, making you feel as though you were floating on air. When you landed and struck your ending pose, your heart hammered against your ribcage.
âVery good, Y/N and Jimin!â Miss Britt smiled before she moved on.
Schooling your expression to stay calm, you felt almost giddy as you ran from center. Jimin was close behind, barely able to contain his excitement.
âDid you hear that?â you gasped, spinning to face him.
âA very good from Miss Britt.â Jimin wriggled both brows. âMight as well move us to the top of the class now.â
âDonât get cocky,â you warned, though you laughed when he high-fived you.
Walking off to the side, you joined the rest of your classmates who were waiting in line. As you waited to reverse the combination on the left, you practiced the steps in your mind.
Miss Britt continued to yell corrections and when your turn finally came, you took a deep breath to relax. Emptying your mind, you forced yourself to focus only on the movement. For the first time since your arrival at Russet, the steps felt almost natural.
Partnering had been difficult for you to learn after so many years of solo competition. Unlearning your independence as a dancer was hard, but you finally felt as though you were making progress. When you and Jimin finished on the left side, you realized with some amazement Miss Britt hadnât yelled out any suggestions.
As soon as everyone had gone, Miss Britt motioned for the pianist to stop and walked to the center.
âGood job, everyone,â she called. âJust a few notes today. Irene, be sure and keep your weight centered in attitude. Donât rely on your partner to keep you steady. Louis, make sure you really push Ari across the floor. Her momentum should come from you, not just her legs. And Sabrina,â Miss Britt said as she turned.
Sabrina straightened, clearly expecting a big heaping of praise. Miss Britt always had something nice to say for her star pupil. It wasnât bitterness which made you say this â Sabrina was just that good at ballet. As much as you disliked her as a person, you couldnât deny Sabrinaâs prowess as a dancer.
Miss Britt frowned. âDonât step so far forward next time. Paulo had to rush to catch up, which is why your timing was off. And Y/N,â she said, moving on.
Sabrina froze, staring wide-eyed at Miss Brittâs back. The shock in her expression was clear and if Miss Britt hadnât moved on to you, you wouldâve relished for longer in Sabrinaâs confusion.
âExcellent work.â Miss Britt smiled. âThat was a beautiful combination. Have you been practicing with Jimin as I suggested, Y/N?â
Instantly, heat rose to your face.
âI, uh,â you stammered, searching for words. âIâve been working with Sana Minatozaki, actually. She graduated last year from Russet?â
âAh, Sana!â Miss Brittâs face lit up. âDid Seokjin introduce you?â
Seokjin nodded, giving you a thumbs up as soon as Miss Britt turned.
âWell, it was wonderful,â Miss Britt continued. âMuch improved, both of you â keep it up. Jasmine,â she said, moving on. âYouâre lowering your chin right before you turn.â
In the corner of your eyes, you saw Jimin glance in your direction, but chose instead to stare at the clock. Pretending as though the time needed your undivided attention, you managed to avoid him for the rest of class.
Across the floor leaps were always the last combination of class â they were considered the âfunâ part of ballet, so of course teachers chose to save them for the end. As you turned and jetĂ©d across the floor, your stomach churned imagining what to say to Jimin.
Maybe you could pretend Miss Britt had been confused. You could say she mistook you for another student, or that youâd never considered asking Jimin for help â even as you thought this, you released a small sigh. You should just tell him the truth and get it over with. If Jimin had proven one thing to you over the past couple of weeks, it was that he wasnât the person youâd always made him out to be.
Still, it would be humiliating for Jimin to know how close youâd been to being kicked out. Miss Britt had told you to seek help barely a week into classes and now, Jimin would know that.
A part of you hated this since that same part of you thought often about that one practice session. The night Jimin had stopped and said he loved watching you dance.
You still werenât sure what to make of that night, but you couldnât deny it was something you often returned to.
As soon as Miss Britt ended class, you made a beeline for your things and plopped down on the floor. Undoing your pointe shoes as fast as you could, you tossed these in your bag and pulled on some sweats. Throwing your bag over your shoulder, you garbled an excuse to Noelle about needing to go and frankly ran towards the hall.
Glancing over your shoulder, you checked to make sure the coast was clear â only to crash into Jimin as soon as you left the room.
âWhoa!â Jimin caught you by the arms. âCareful, Y/N. Youâll sprain your other ankle.â
âI didnât sprain my ankle,â you huffed.
Arching a brow, Jimin continued to hold your arms. His dance bag was slung over a shoulder, sweatpants pulled on over his ballet clothes. Dimly, you realized he hadnât had to take off any pointe shoes. Stupid male dancers and their stupid male benefits.
Behind Jimin, you saw Noelle exit the classroom. Tossing a beseeching glance in her direction, Noelle saw you and paused â only to wink and continue walking away. Aghast, you stared in shock at her back.Â
Traitor, you decided. Sheâd pay for that later.
âCan we talk over there?â Jimin nodded down the hall.
âI â sure,â you said, unable to think of an excuse. Why couldnât you think of an excuse?
Releasing your arms, Jimin turned to leave and you followed. Once you were far enough away from class to not be overheard, he turned around. Coming to a stop, you fiddled with the strap of your bag pulled across your chest.
Oddly enough, Jimin seemed as nervous as you were. âWhat⊠was that?â he asked, glancing towards the ballet room.
âWhat was what?â
Jimin gave you a look. âThat comment from Miss Britt. Were you going to ask me for help, or something?â
Wincing, you glanced away. Hearing Jimin speak brought back all the resentment you felt when Miss Britt first pulled you aside. You thought youâd grown since then â and maybe you had â but remembering that day still made your stomach sink. If there was one thing you hated, it was admitting you werenât perfect.
âI â well, no,â you said, looking up.
Jiminâs expression remained unsure and after a moment, you sighed.
âAlright, yeah,â you said. âKind off. Miss Britt⊠suggested I ask you for help at the start of the year.â
âOh.â Jiminâs face was unreadable.
Someone laughed far off down the hall and another door banged open, a different ballet class letting out. Jimin glanced away, hesitating a moment before his gaze returned to yours.
âWant to get going?â Jimin offered. âThe next class is starting, so Danley is going to get crowded.â
âSure,â you said, following as Jimin turned around.
You were silent the entire trip down the hall and even outside, as you began to walk down the sidewalk. Jimin was correct; Danley Hall was crowded at this time of day. After Miss Brittâs classes on Fridays, you didnât have any set schedule unless you chose to take an afternoon master class.
Jimin walked next to you on the sidewalk, brow furrowed and seemingly lost in thought. About a block away from Danley, he glanced in your direction.
âWhy didnât you ask me for help?â Jimin said.
Rolling your eyes, you hitched your bag higher. âOh, come on,â you sighed, shooting him a look. âIt wasnât like we were on the best of terms. You wouldnât have said yes.â
âMaybe I wouldâve.â
âBe serious.â
âMaybe I wouldâve!â he insisted, cracking a smile. âLook â youâre not the only one who needs extra practice. What did Miss Britt say you needed to work on?â
Falling silent, you stared straight ahead and considered what to reveal. The air around you was crisp, the sky blue overhead and the leaves orange against it â in other words, it was a perfect fall day. You hated to ruin something so wonderful with talk of improvement.
At long last, you sighed.
âTechnique,â you admitted. âYou know that my background isnât as a ballerina. Miss Britt thought it would be a good idea for me to take lessons from someone strong in ballet.â
âHm.â Jimin considered. âI guess that makes sense.â
âHey!â
He looked your way in surprise. âWhat? Youâre the one who said it was something you needed to work on!â
âI know,â you grumbled. âIt just sucks hearing you say it.â
âWhatâs wrong with hearing me say it?â
âYou know,â you said, gesturing vaguely. âYouâre you. Park Jimin. Hearing you say it just reminds me of all the ways weâre different. All the ways youâre⊠better than I am.â
Jimin didnât react in the way you expected. You thought maybe heâd deny it, or maybe even gloat, but instead he just frowned.
âDifferent doesnât mean worse,â Jimin said slowly. âIt just means⊠different. You need help with ballet technique? Well, I need help with performance.â
âYou â what?â you said, caught off guard.
Jimin gave you a rueful smile. âI kind of wish youâd said something sooner. I got feedback last month that I needed to work on emoting. Apparently, my technique is good, but I forget what to do with my face in difficult combinations.â
âReally?â you blinked, somewhat amazed. âIâve always thought you were good at that.â
âWell, Iâve always thought you had great technique.â
âWas that... an actual compliment, Park?â
âDonât act so surprised.â Jimin snorted. âMost people think Iâm a really nice guy.â
âYeah, well. Most people havenât had you tell them to break a leg and mean it.â
âI didnât mean it.â Jiminâs lip twitched. âMost of the time, anyways.â
âAha!â you said, leveling a finger in his direction. âSo, you admit it. You meant it some of the time.â
Jimin shrugged. âWhat can I say? I wanted to win. Sometimes it felt like⊠I donât know, sometimes it felt like you were the only thing pushing me.â He paused, then continued, âThere were some days things were so bad, I just wanted to quit. I wanted to give up, but then Iâd think about you. Iâd think about our bet, our next competition and⊠Iâd keep going,â he said, finishing quietly.
You remained silent for a moment, allowing this to sink in.
Deep down, you understood what Jimin meant. Dance was difficult; that much was obvious from your first semester at Russet. It was hard to find the drive to keep going. Youâd be lying if you said you hadnât sometimes felt the same way. There had been weekends in high school you just wanted to be a normal student and hang out at the mall â but then youâd remember Jiminâs maddening smirk when he won and force yourself to work harder.
âI guess fear is a great motivator,â you said softly.
Jimin hesitated, then nodded. âDonât get me wrong. Itâs not like you were the only reason I danced. Itâs just⊠on some days, you were that push.â
Again, you knew what he meant. The mental, physical and emotional exhaustion of dance could eat at a person until there was nothing left. An iron-clad will only got you so far â on some days, you just needed something more, something external. That push.
âI get it,â you said, glancing his way. âI felt that way sometimes about you, too.â
Jimin straightened. âReally?â
âYeah.â After a moment, you shook your head. âBut seriously â would you be interested?â
âInterested in what?â
âIn helping me practice,â you said before you could talk yourself out of it.
The words hung in the air between you, Jimin blinking while he considered your proposition.Â
Immediately, you wondered if youâd made a mistake. Sabrinaâs easy dismissal came to mind, but you tried not to jump to any negative conclusions. For all the difficulties youâd had in your past, Jimin hadnât done anything detrimental to you in nearly a month.Â
At some point, you needed to learn to move on.
âDoes that mean youâll help me, too?â Jimin glanced hopefully sideways. âI wasnât kidding about the feedback I got. Iâve been trying to find someone to teach me for weeks.â
âDeal,â you said, offering him a smile.
Jimin nodded, digging around in his pocket for his cell phone. âWhatâs your number?â he said, glancing up. âI can check the practice room schedule and let you know whatâs available.â
Rattling off your information, you waited for Jimin to send you a text. When he did, you pulled out your phone and saved his information.
âCool.â Jimin shoved his phone back in his pocket. âI guess Iâll see you around, then. Whatâre you doing tonight?â
Normally on Fridays, youâd take one of the available master classes, but part of your new deal with Finn had been to see each other at least once a week. Tonight, you were heading to a club with Finn and his friends despite having ballet tomorrow. This had been a compromise on your end, which was something you realized you hadnât done much of.
âIâm going out,â you said with a shrug. âWhat about you?â
âBefore Mr. Vladâs ballet class?â Jimin raised a brow. âBrave of you, Y/N. Iâm probably just going to read, go to bed early. Real wild stuff.â
Adjusting your bag, you laughed and turned away. âBrave or stupid?â you called as you climbed the steps. âDonât knock yourself, though. Your night sounds pretty great to me. Self-care and all that.â
âYeah, sure.â Jimin laughed. âHave fun at your thing. See you tomorrow, Y/N!â
When you reached the top of the stairs, you turned and saw him wave goodbye. Returning the gesture, you pulled your key from your pocket and let yourself in. As soon as the door swung shut, leaving you in darkness, you realized Jimin was saved in your phone.
After a moment of pause, you continued your walk down the hall. If youâd told yourself one year ago that this would happen, you wouldâve assumed it to be a prank or a joke.Â
It only went to show how easily people changed.
Except for people in clubs, it seemed.
Seated in a back booth of Excelsior nightclub, you drummed a hand on your knee and gazed around the warehouse. A strobe-lit dance floor lay directly before you, a DJ booth situated on a table several feet above the dancers.
Sweaty, half-naked bodies writhed to the beat of deafening music. Watching this from afar, you couldnât help but wince. It wasnât that you hated dancing â obviously, not. It was just this form of dancing which always confused you. There was no intimacy to it, no emotion, and no connection to gain from grinding your ass on someoneâs crotch.
Most men didnât bother learning to dance, anyways. Most were content just to sway side to side, watching their woman do all the work. Finn was amongst this crowd, but you couldnât really blame him for that â the man truly had no rhythm. This led to you oftentimes being bored on the dance floor; there was only so much you could grind with a stationary being.
Even the people who went to these clubs were annoying. Eager, college freshman waiting to try out their new fake IDs. Tipsy sorority girls at the bar, sipping on cranberry vodkas and scanning the room for a partner. Around the edges of the dance floor lurked creepy men, attempting to grab on before their faces were seen.
You hated all of it, but you especially hated it sober. Had you been drunk, maybe you wouldâve found the noise and crowd to be tolerable. As it was though, you were completely sober and found everything around you to be incessantly annoying.
Finn and his friends had pre-gamed before your arrival at his dorm. By the time you reached them, Finn was already three beers deep, red-faced and tipsy when he threw open the door.
âY/N!â he had cheered, pulling you in for a hug.
Youâd already forgotten several of his friendsâ names by now, although this wasnât entirely due to your faulty memory. Half kept calling one another by nicknames, making it difficult for you to keep up with their discourse.
Compared to the other girls in the party, you found yourself to be severely underdressed. They all were wearing tight body-con dresses and stilettoed heels. You, on the other hand, had thrown a cardigan over your tank top before you left in case it was cold.
The look on the other girlsâ faces when you entered continued to burn uncomfortably in your mind. Theyâd looked at each other over the rims of their drinks, clearly unimpressed. Their meaning had been clear enough. This was Finnâs girlfriend?
Usually, you didnât care what other people thought. As Jimin had pointed out, you werenât the type who acted insecure. In that moment though, surrounded by Finnâs inner circle and feeling entirely out of place, youâd had a brief lapse of inadequacy.
Not being able to drink had solidified this wedge between you. Friendships were often forged in the throes of drunken adversity â your sobriety placed you firmly on the outside.
To his credit, Finn did his best to include you. Heâd stayed by your side the entire evening, pulling you into games and introducing you to everyone in the room as his girlfriend. It was physically impossible for him to be everywhere at once though, so there were some unavoidable moments when you were left alone.
The pregame had started nearly four hours previous â sometime around midnight, youâd traveled downtown to the club and now the time was close to 1:00 AM. You kept glancing at your watch, wondering with increasing anxiety when you would leave. The group showed no signs of slowing down and your ballet class started at 8:00 AM the next morning.
You probably shouldâve discussed this with Finn earlier, but heâd just been so happy to know you were coming. You hadnât wanted to throw a wrench in this excitement by demanding he make a schedule.
Toying with the rim of your water, you glanced over at Finn and realized he didnât seem bored. Ben was seated on his other side, a guy named Rico across the table and two of the blondes were sandwiched on either side.
The rest of Finnâs group were already on the dance floor, having found suitable partners soon after arrival. Two of his friends were currently sucking face by the DJ booth, and youâd seen another two earlier try and sneak towards the bathrooms.
Rico snorted, which prompted laughter from the rest of them. You didnât see what had been so funny about Benâs joke â it had seemed kind of demeaning towards women â but the two blondes at the table didnât seem to mind. You tried not to think less of them for that, lips tightening as you looked away.
Given how stifling the club was, youâd removed your cardigan soon after arrival and tied it around your waist. The air felt sticky on your skin, heavy with the musk of so many people. Finn had smiled when you did this, slipping an arm around your waist to pull you closer. Itâd been a sweet gesture at the time, but now the warehouse was boiling and you felt dangerously close to overheating.
As the music switched to a new song, one of the girls across the table gasped and jumped to her feet.
âThis is my song,â she said, clapping both hands. âCome on, guys â letâs dance!â
Grabbing her friend and Rico, she pulled them onto the dance floor. Ben downed his drink and joined them, so Finn moved to stand.
âYou in?â he said with a grin.
Hesitant, you glanced around. âCan we sit for a while?â you yelled, fighting to be heard over the music. âIâm kind of tired after today.â
âYou sure?â Finn called back, also fighting to be heard. He frowned. âCome on, Y/N. Just one dance!â
The rest of the group proceeded to enter the dance floor, hands up while they sandwiched themselves between other people. The sight looked frankly nauseating, but you caught the look of open desire on Finnâs expression.
Knowing he wanted to join them, you pushed aside a sigh and stood. âOkay,â you said, slipping your hand into his. âOne dance.â
Finn instantly brightened, tugging you along towards his friends. Shoving your way through the crowd, you tried your best not to breathe through your nose. Slightly claustrophobic at the best of times, clubs had the ability to become your worst nightmare. Especially when everyone was drunk except for you; it made you feel even less in control.
Turning around, Finn lifted your arms and placed them on his shoulders. âSee?â he said, sliding closer. âThis is fun, right?â
Tilting your head upwards, you nodded and concentrated solely on him. Usually, you found Finnâs touch soothing, but tonight his grip felt too hot and people kept bumping into you from behind. All you could think about was how badly you wanted to leave. It had been such a long day of dance and you needed to wake up early tomorrow.
Pressing yourself closer, you tried to lose yourself in Finnâs normally clean scent. Tonight though, he smelled like sweat and alcohol, and so you released a sigh.Â
Hearing this, you felt Finnâs arms tense around you. Lowering his lips, he brushed them to your ear. âYouâre not having fun, are you?â
Stricken, you looked up. âNo â no! I am.â
Finn gave you a look.
âAlright, fine,â you admitted. âIâm just⊠tired, Finn. I didnât know weâd be out so late.â
Rather than apologize or offer an explanation, Finn tensed a bit more. You knew from his face he was drunk; youâd known this objectively, given all the beer he consumed. When Finn drank though, he tended to resort to stubbornness. Seeing his expression harden, your heart slowly sank.
âYou didnât think weâd be out late at a club?â he asked you, brows raised.
âI thought weâd pregame, head to the club and then leave,â you said, somewhat defensive. âHow long can you dance with the same, sweaty bodies?â
Finnâs jaw clenched and he looked away. âDonât you mean â how long can you dance with me?â
Eyes widening, you pulled away.Â
âWhat? No! Finn, what are you even saying?â
Although his hands remained on your waist, his grip wasnât gentle. Finnâs expression stayed tight, looking over your shoulder in order to avoid your gaze.
âYou love to dance,â he said slowly. âSo, what youâre saying is you donât want to dance with me.â
âFinn.â You stared at him in amazement. âThatâs not what Iâm saying. Iâm just tired â thatâs all! I had dance early today, I have dance early tomorrow. Canât we go and grab food somewhere? Just the two of us?â
Finn exhaled and it seemed as though he might acquiesce â but then he exhaled and returned to you.
His gaze seemed clouded, and you wondered in alarm how much Finn had drank. You didnât know how much heâd had to pregame and found yourself wondering if he might throw up. Finn had a very thin line between tipsy and puking.
âWhy donât you like my friends?â he demanded, hurt in his gaze.
Taken aback, you could only stare. âI â what?â
âSee?â Finn looked away. âYou didnât even deny it.â
âNo, I â you just took me by surprise,â you said, reeling a little. âYour friends are fine, Finn. Theyâre just not my friends. I donât know them very well.â
âWell⊠alright,â he said, slightly chastised.
Unsure where this was coming from, you stood there a moment and let everything sink in. Finn wasnât a yeller â he still wasnât really yelling â but something was clearly bothering him. Maybe it was the dance club around you, but you had a feeling it wasnât just that.
âWhatâs this really about?â you said, having to yell in order to be heard over the music.
Finn shrugged. âNothing.â
âFinn.â
âNothing!â
âWhy donât we go somewhere so we can talk,â you said, stepping back. âMy headâs starting to hurt, anyways. We can go ââ
âNo,â Finn said abruptly, cutting you off. âI donât want to leave.â
Your eyes widened in amazement. âNo?â
Finn met your gaze. âYou said this was our night, Y/N,â he said, stepping closer. âI havenât seen you all week and you promised weâd go out together tonight. This is what being out looks like, Y/N!â he said, sweeping an arm. âLook around!â
âI â okay,â you said, baffled. âBut I have class in the morning.â
âYou always have class the next morning.â
âBecause I do!â
Dropping both arms, Finn took a step backwards. His expression hardened a little, but beneath all that exterior you saw an undercurrent of hurt.
Lifting a hand, you rubbed at your temples. You hadnât been lying when you said you felt a headache coming on. This was the same argument youâd had weeks ago, but you thought that had been settled. A few weeks prior, you wouldnât have come out to the club at all but now here you were, nearing 1:00 AM.
âNothingâs changed, has it?â Finn asked, his voice louder than normal. âYou still donât want to be here, do you?â
âWant to be here?â you blurted. âI mean, no â not really, Finn! I wanted to spend time with you and instead, here we are. Clubs kind of suck!â
âWell, sorry the things I want to do arenât fun enough for you.â
âDo you seriously want to be here?â you asked in disbelief. âYou want to be sweat on by strangers while drinking a watered-down rum and coke at 1:00 in the morning?â
âYeah, kind of!â Finn huffed. âSorry if my interests arenât high-brow enough for you, or whatever.â
âThatâs not what I meant,â you groaned.
âWell, thatâs what you said.â Shaking his head, Finn glanced away. âFine. You know what? If you want to leave so badly, then go.â
âWell, I donât want us to leave if ââ
âNot us,â he corrected, returning his gaze to yours. âYou. You can go if you want Y/N, but Iâm staying.â
Before you could respond, Finn spun on his heel and shoved into the crowd.
You stared after him in shock, jaw dropping as he disappeared between people. Before you could run after, someone stumbled into you hard from behind. Cold soda and ice poured down your back, making you yelp as you jumped.
Nearly slipping on liquid, you spun around â only to realize your perpetrator was wasted. The girl giggled, then hiccupped, not realizing her drink was empty as she raised it.
âSorry,â she slurred, blind to your distress.
Rolling your eyes, you stalked past her. Yelling at someone that drunk would offer no sense of retribution.
Scanning the crowd, you searched for Finnâs clothing but saw nothing. Heâd been wearing a dark t-shirt and jeans, so he unfortunately blended easily into the crowd. After tapping several strangers on the shoulder and in turn, getting hit on by several strangers â probably due to your soaked, see-through tank top â you gave up and walked towards the edge of the dance floor.
Vision starting to blur, you yanked out your cell phone and swiped up. Your fingers hovered over the call button a few times before you gave up and shoved your phone in your bag. The logical thing to do wouldâve been to find Finn, or to find one of Finnâs friends and convince them to leave but for some reason, you just couldnât.
The idea of seeing Finn right now made you furious. Heâd been a jerk and you knew if you saw him, youâd only end up saying things youâd regret. Instead, you clutched your bag tighter and spun towards the front.
As you passed by the coat check, you slowed enough to notice the line outside. People stretched down the block â if you left the club now, thereâd be no getting back in. Turning around, you once again searched the crowd.
The booth youâd sat in wasnât far away, but it remained empty, all of Finnâs friends still out on the dance floor. Had you seen Finn at that point â had you seen anyone familiar â you might have decided to stay, but as it was, you saw no one. Finn hadnât run after you, he hadnât called and he hadnât sent a text. Clearly, he didnât care what happened to you tonight.
Buoyed by this knowledge, you gritted your teeth and walked out the door.
As soon as you stepped outside, the air dropped ten degrees. Shivering a little, you pulled out your phone and checked the Uber app. The moment you saw the surcharge, you winced. The cost for a cab back to Russet was three times the normal price. If you had to pay that, youâd be screwed.
Exiting Uber, you opened the train schedule and again checked the time. When you saw 1:15 AM, you groaned. All trains in this neighborhood stopped running at 1:00 AM. This was why youâd planned on splitting an Uber home with all of Finnâs friends.
âHey, you! Princess!â
Head jerking upwards, you found an unfamiliar guy leering at you from line. Glancing over your shoulder, you realized he was talking to you.
âYeah, you!â he said, hanging over the ropes. âWant to come in the club with us, princess?â
Immediately, you wrinkled your nose. âWhy would I want to go back in the club?â you responded. âDidnât you just see me leave?â
His smile dropped. âDamn, I was just asking. No need to be rude!â
Rolling your eyes, you stuck your middle finger up in the air as you walked away.
âWhatever, bitch!â
Fighting back a shiver, you continued to walk until you were halfway down the block. It was quieter there, but that wasnât always a good thing. Glancing around, you saw several alleys and tried to place yourself strategically away from the shadows. You hated going to parts of town you didnât know, especially at night and especially alone.
Suddenly, your rash decision to leave the club struck you as foolish. Opening your phone, you pulled up Finnâs number and pressed call. Screw your dumb pride â youâd forget all about the fight if heâd come stand outside. Finn may have been drunk, but he wasnât an asshole. You knew if Finn knew your situation, heâd immediately leave the club.
His phone went straight to voicemail.
Blood turning cold, you stared straight ahead for a moment. Hand shaking, you pulled your phone away and stared at the screen. Finnâs outgoing message continued to jabber, but to you the audio seemed almost blurred.
Trying his number again, you once more reached voicemail. At this point, you began to see red. No matter how annoyed heâd been at you, Finn had absolutely no reason to turn off his cell phone. And yet, it was the only explanation.
Spinning around on your heel, you marched back up the block and to the front of the line. Tapping the bouncer on the shoulder, you waited until he turned around.
âYeah, hi,â you said, not bothering with a preamble. âI need to get in.â
The man gave you a strange look. âHuh?â
âTo the club,â you said, jerking your chin. âI need to get back inside.â
âUh, sure. You and the rest of the line.â
âNo, you donât understand,â you said, crossing both arms over your chest. You were just now remembering the spilled drink from earlier. âI was in there earlier. Look,â you said, showing the stamp on your wrist. âYou mustâve seen me exit a few minutes ago. Just let me back in!â
âNo can do, sweetheart.â He shook his head. âRules are rules. When you left, we let someone else in. The clubâs already at capacity.â
Stomach sinking, you stared at him for a moment, but he refused to budge. Glancing over his shoulder, you could see the dance floor in the distance, strobe lights flashing and bass thumping. Before you could try anything else, the leering guy from the line reached the front.
Seeing you, he did a double take. âPrincess!â he said, slurring a bit. âDid you change your mind? You want to come party? Iâll forgive you if you give me somethinâ in returnâŠâ
Teeth gritted, you immediately turned and walked away. The guy continued to call after you, so you sped up your pace to put distance between you. Fighting another chill, you forced yourself to keep walking and not turn around.
In one hand, your thumb hovered over the emergency button on your phone. If the guy broke from the line, you werenât above calling the cops. Finally, both his shouts and the sound of the club faded away.
Paused on the sidewalk, you realized you were in the same place as before. Knowing this was a bad situation, you reluctantly opened the Uber app once again. Screw the cost â better to be in debt than abducted from an alley.
As soon as you opened the app, you saw the surcharge remained at 3x and the wait time had risen to fifty minutes.
âOh, hell no,â you groaned, closing the app.
Staring at the street, you went through your mental checklist of options again.
The train was a no, as was Uber â you could walk and find a cab, but this was an unfamiliar part of the city and you didnât like those odds. You had none of Finnâs friendsâ numbers and Noelle was likely asleep. She didnât have a car to come get you, anyways.
Still, she could probably figure out a way to find you if you asked. Sighing, you thumbed through your contacts until you found the right number. It took you a long moment before you forced yourself to press call.
Lifting the phone to your ear, you hugged yourself with one arm while you waited. When the person on the other end answered, you squeezed your eyes shut.
âHey,â you sighed. âItâs me. Can you⊠come pick me up?â

Warnings: implied or mentions of sm*t, a curse word, past references of blood and beatings, nothing else. And this is a long chapter, and my first attempt at writing what I Hope looks like implied sm*t, I have no experience whatsoever on such in anyway, so I really hope itâs goodđŹ let me know!đ
âThe Secrets of Gotham-Unmaskedâ
Chp. 10
  Y/n came home later that afternoon and sat with Bruce and Alfred at the kitchen table while munching on more blueberries to talk about what had gone down at the GCHQ,
   âSo turns out that the new vigilante made its appearance, well kinda at least, heâs made it known that heâs around.â
  Alfred got up to serve them more tea as he asked,
  âHow so?â
  âSo turns out he calls himself RedHood. Or at least thatâs what he told the guys he beat up. At least 16 men made it to the emergency room last night because of him, they were all still alive but seriously injured, but at the end of the day.. these 16 men are part of the list for Gothamâs Most Wanted. They wanted to offer him money in return but the havenât found him sense. Heâs like a predator at night, only taking prey and leaving at first sight of someone else.â
  Bruce plopped a blueberry in his mouth before he added,
  âWhy RedHood? Why is he called that?â
  Y/n reached down to grab her backpack, and opened it taking out a sketching, she placed it in front of Alfred and Bruce as she stated,
  âI had the men describe to me what RedHood looked like, so I sketched it to the best of my ability.. turns out I was pretty accurate. They all said it was him. And I asked each of them separately.â
  Bruce grabbed the sketch and held it up, he took off his shades to get a better look at it, he placed it on the table and sighed,
  âI wouldnât even know where and who he is exactly, heâs faster and.. and dangerous too, he could possibly kill someone at some point, which wouldnât make him a good guy anymore.â
  Alfred then added,
  âBruce is right, what could be his motive? He literally just showed up out of the blue. And beat the living daylights out of 16 men. 16 men!â
  Y/n scratched her scalp and said,
  âI wouldnât know Alfred.. I wouldnât know, I told Gordon I would keep an eye out for him, I have night shifts coming up after Christmas.â
  That perked Bruceâs attention immediately,
  âWhatâs night shift? Youâll be working all night?â
  âYeah.. from 9pm to 5am..  it Iâll be fine, itâll give me more of a chance to snoop on Mackenzie-â
  Alfred put a pause right away,
  âDear, dear.. listen, I know your purposes for such intended actions, but you have to be careful.. how are you going to go in anyways?â
  Bruce then took out a set of keys from his pocket and placed it on the table,
  âWith this.â
  Y/n stared at the keys blankly before looking at Bruce with confusion painting her features,
  âHow the hell did you get these?â
  âGordon gave them to me, he made a copy after Mackenzie told him to bring them to him after he had forgotten them, so he made a copy for you. You just have to track the timings from when heâs there and not. Though Gordon told me heâs not there every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. So thatâs a start.â
  Y/n sighed with satisfaction,
  âGosh this is great Bruce, better than anything at the moment.. say have any of you heard about Saunders? Learned anything about him?â
  Alfred smiled with pride while handing her a couple of pages,Â
  âThatâs the old address to where he used to live.â
  Y/n read through the pages and questioned,
  âYou mean to tell me heâs been in Gotham all along? He literally lives here?â
  âYes dear, but now you just need to find exactly where, but.. what are you going to do when you see him?â
  âIâm planing on introducing myself to him, as Iâm Y/f/nâs daughter, then try and see if he wants to help me out with some of the details of the case? I mean it might or might not work out.. but I have to try. Actually tonight Iâm going to look for him-â
  âIâll come with.â
 Bruce chimed in, Y/n nodded her head in agreement as she implied,
  âI think by 10 we can head out, maybe check this address out and see if we get anywhere.â
   âSounds good to me.â
 Alfred couldnât help but give his honest opinion and a few suggestions,
  âAlright, all though this sounds like a great idea, I do have to say that you need to be safe about this, you donât know who he his, and you donât know if RedHood is going to be around, Bruce, take the night off as Batman, itâs barely â8:30â, you guys can head out by midnight, Bruce you could be-â
  âMr.Scribbles?â
 Bruce and Alfred turned to look at Y/n with twisted brows and with Bruce scrunching his pointed nose, in a huff Alfred asked,
  âWhoâs Mr.Scribbles?â
  Y/n then realized that they didnât know that while Bruce was going out as the drifter to send her the orange envelopes, she had given him the name âMr.Scribblesâ, because she sit want to keep calling him the âgenerous creepâ. Y/n the shyly confessed,
  âoh.. thatâs what I called Bruce as heâs in his drifter mode.. I didnât know how else to address him, I got the name from his handwriting, it was neat, but scribbles too. Soo.. yeah?â
  Alfred chuckled lightly as Bruceâs face turned a shade of light pink, Bruce then corrected,
  âI go by âthe drifterâ when Iâm not in the suit, but you can call me whatever you like.. either is good.â
  Y/n smiled sheepishly,
  âok.. well, then Bruce will be âthe drifterâ tonight and Iâll be-â
  Bruce then added
  âshadow.. you can be âshadowâ.â
 It was Y/nâs turn to be confused,
 âDid you just give me a code name?â
 Bruce immediately got worried he went to far as giving her a code name, like he did for himself, he tried to answer but was stammering instead,
  âW-well, you- sorry- I mean- well itâs cause-â
 Y/n interrupted him with a happy smile on her face as she bounced in her seat,
  âItâs perfect!!! I love it Bruce! W-What do you think Alfred?!â
 Alfred shook his head approvingly, it was like watching two kids come together to play cops and robbers or something,Â
  âI like the sound of it, The Batman and The Shadow.. your Batmanâs Shadow Y/n, I think itâll work out, good choice Bruce.â
  Bruce eased off the worry he felt, it felt good to know Y/n was copping with him, and was already putting two in two together. She was ready for the next ten steps. Bruce then added with a more calm expression now,
   âAlright.. if weâre going to do this tonight, I need you to come with me and put your gear together, I need you with protection for just in case.â
  âYou made something for me?â
  Bruce smiled as he corrected,
  âI made âsome thingsâ for you, come on, Iâll show you.â
  Y/n jumped out of her seat and grabbed Bruceâs hand into hers with desperation and excitement, she then asked Alfred,
 âAre you going to come with us?â
 âNo dear, I have a few errands to run for the afternoon, but you two go ahead, Iâll be here before you leave.â
  Bruce asked him,
  âWhere are you going?â
 Alfred shot him a knowing look, he was supposed to remember about buying the Christmas tree!! Bruce took a few seconds of confusion,
   âWhat errands.. I took care of that, well, he MADE me take care of tha- OH THE CHRISTMAS TREE!! Right!â
  At the remembrance of this he raised his brows and almost dragged Y/n to the cave,
  âOk! Um, please call if anything goes wrong, do not be out until dark, and I mean it, call me.â
  âI will Bruce, now go take care of your things.â
  âRight, câmon love.â
  Y/n immediately knew something was up with the two, but she trusted them enough to not question it or go deep thought into it. As soon as Alfred was out of sight Bruce scooped Y/n into his arms, she yelped in surprise but none the less burst into giggles as Bruce slipped his hand under her shirt and rubbed her bare hips and tickled her sides with his calloused hands. In return she kissed and nibbled the sensitive spot behind his ear making him get all jelly inside and out. After almost tumbling down the stairs and Bruce âalmost almostâ dropping her in the elevator down to the cave because they couldnât stop playing around they finally made it down. Bruce as usual set her on his desk and placed a sweet kiss to her lips, then pulled out a few things from his box as he explained,
  âSense the first day I met you, I had planned lots of things for you.. I knew you were a detective and weâll go on field sometimes, or all the time. So, I made these for you.â
  He set beside her an ear comm set, a bullet proof vest, an emergency button, a set of knives, and a stun gun. Y/n picked up each one with astonishment painted on her face, in a low whisper she asked,
  âYou made this all for me? Like.. -Bruce you made this?â
  He shook his head and went on,
  âIf we are going to do this, like go out at night... we have to take every precaution, this is Gotham City, and- well.. itâs dangerous.â
  Y/n smiled approvingly,
  âYour right, as it is the GCPD system doesnât provide the safest equipment to go out in. Come on help me get suited up!â
  She hopped off the desk and Bruce walked to another mannequin he had hidden behind his own, his suit was big enough to hide what was behind, he picked it up and brought it to Y/n, at the sight of what was on the mannequin made Y/nâs jaw drop,Â
   âNo way....â
 Bruceâs heart warmed up at her jaw dropped face, she was in awe. It was an all dark grey suit. It was cargo pants with a turtleneck top, but all plated with the same material that made his Batman suit.
  Right in the middle of the chest plate of the suit was a symbol, the same large black Batman symbol that was on Bruceâs,  but in the middle of that symbol was a small grey one. Y/n walked up to the suit as held her fingers on the small grey symbol, it was cool to touch, it was metal.Â
  She looked at the boots, the looked liked they went up to the knee, all back but had dark grey laces. She then voiced a memory,
  âRemember that first night we went to Arkham Prison and I lost my boot?â
  Bruce covered his face with embarrassment,
  âI swear I was just trying help you get your foot out, but.. yeah I dropped your shoe down the sewage drain.â
  She chuckled and told Bruce,
  âI think these boots are enough payment... thank you.â
  He opened his arms and let her run into his embrace, she wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face into his chest, he rested his cheek on her head with his arms around her too, he heard her mumble against his chest,
  âThank you for taking care of me baby.. for, just being prepared, being my anchor. And for letting me come with you.â
  He relaxed in her touch and replied,
  âAs much as I donât want you to come because itâs dangerous, I need you.. and you need this too. So, I made sure to have this all ready for you. Because I care about your safety and I love you Y/n.â
  She picked up her head and pecked his lips,
  âI love you more Bruce, I promise to be more careful, I really do, I canât lose more.â
  âNeither can I... now, letâs get suited up. You go first.â
  âok.â
  Though he said that he didnât let go, and neither did she. They both held on tight, like if they would let go they would disappear. Bruceâs mind was going a million miles, just thinking about what soon he was going to bring on Y/n,
  âWill she want to go undercover? Will it scare her? Will they figure out who she is? Kill her or attack her, use her against me to hurt me.. to bring me out of the mask. What if they compromise her, change her? Hurt her heart more.. no-â
  âBruce are you ok? Your heart is beating out of your chest.â
  Y/n pulled away a little and looked into his now worried gaze, he didnât realize that his haunting thoughts were causing him to freak out a little. Sense her head was against his chest she heard the sudden change in the heartbeat. From calm to now beating wildly. She rested her hand over his heart and noted,
  âIf you donât want me to go-â
  âNo no.. itâs ok, we can do this.. itâs just- something else.â
  His gaze dropped to the floor or anywhere else to not look at her, but Y/n grabbed his cheek so he could look at her,
  âYou know you can tell me anything.. weâll work it out, whatever it is.â
  He took a deep breath and saw nothing but her honesty and curiosity in her eyes,
So he went on,
  âGordon and I need.. no, Batman and Gordon need something from you. But itâs risky.. and more dangerous than what weâre about to do, I told him I would tell you about it in front of him, but I canât hold it in anymore.â
   âok.. go on.. Iâm right here.â
  She held his hands in hers and let him proceed,
  âMackenzie goes to the Iceberg Lounge and The 44 Below, to buy and sell drops, along with many other officials, he helps run what Maroni and The Penguin have established. And we need to know where heâs getting the amount of money he has at the moment. Cause drops are not cheap. And neither is running the business to keep it up-â
   âYou want me to go undercover?â
  Bruce halted and questioned,
  âWell no, I mean. Would you-â
  âYes! Of course Bruce, if that is what itâll take to catch that blood sucking man then yes.. Iâll do it.â
   âBut you donât understand Y/n, it isnât like any other-â
  âBruce does it matter at this point?â
  Bruce shook his head and let her go,
  âYes it does Y/n,  you got to understand this is dangerous, youâve never been in there or seen what Iâve seen. You have to be serious and think about it. Who ever goes in sometimes doesnât come out, and no one will hear about it. The system and Gothamâs society is so fucked up. Why do you think Mackenzie got away with your fatherâs murder and made it look like an accident? When you and I know it wasnât, it was a hate crime, arson, and he planned it. Your father got too close to catching him and Mackenzie stopped him from going further-â
  At the mention of her fathers death it made anger begin to deep into her chest as she argued,
   âThatâs why I have to go in and catch him! He holds everything that will lead us to the truth Bruce! No matter how long it takes, months or years, he has to be caught. You think this doesnât scare me Bruce? It terrifies me! I say yes because thatâs all thereâs left, if I say no, heâll never be put away. Heâll keep on with his vendetta and we fall between the cracks because weâre scared. I took the badge knowing there would be risks, knowing everyday that I went out that I might not come home. Knowing my life is on the line at every second, but I do it because I can. You know, not everyone that is around can defend or fight for their justice like we do. Some of them donât have a voice, or the power that we have. And if I know I can do this and decide to not do anything about it, it only makes me just as bad as Mackenzie... after losing Y/b/n Iâm not taking any chances to sit around and wait, if I know thereâs something to pursue then Iâll go. Alone or not.â
  By this time Y/n had tears running down her cheeks, but Bruce knew it was more out of the anger that all of this brought, the corruption of her fathers death and to losing Y/b/n. Bruce stayed quiet and let her come back into his arms and he wiped her tears away as she continued to say but now in a calmer tone as Bruce held her,
   âI know you and I are scared Bruce, I mean who wouldnât. We take unnecessary risks every night, we could just drop all of this and go cuddle in bed or by the fire, but instead we both choose to do what we know no one else canât. I know that if my father was here, heâd want me to do this.. heâd want me to finish where he left off. No matter how scared or terrified it made me, because thatâs what we do, we-â
  ââProtect those who canât protect themselves.ââ
  Bruce said in sync with Y/n, and he repeated,
 âWe protect those who canât protect themselves.â
   âExactly.. itâs justice for Gotham, and if youâre going in so will I. I want to do this with you-â
  Bruce crashed his lips onto hers after that last word. He felt a sudden urge to have her, to feel her skin against his. A dam in his heart had broken at the words âI want to do this with you.â He grabbed the back of her thighs and hoisted her onto his desk without breaking the kiss for a split second, she grabbed his face with her hands and began to trail kisses down his jawline, causing him to let out a throaty moan, only making her do it more. Bruce then picked her up and led her onto an empty futon he had there, sometimes when he was too tired to make it to his room he would crash there. But as Bruce laid her gently onto her back, Y/n was going to continue to kiss him, but he grabbed her chin putting her to a stop when he said in a shy whispered tone,
   âI want you.. but I donât know how, Iâve never done-â
  âItâs ok, I donât know either.. but weâll guide each other... because I want you too.â
  They met in the middle as they kissed again with a passion and hunger they had never felt before. Bruce broke the kiss to get air and to strip out of his hoodie leaving on display what Y/n called his beautiful body. Her cold hands went straight to touch his bare chest and Bruce hissed at the sudden sensation,
  âbaby your hands are freezing.â
  âSh sh I know câmere.â
  Bruce came impossibly close and grabbed the end of her blouse with a questioning gaze,Â
   âmay I?â
   âhmm hmm.â
  He then shook his head no, he needed to hear her words say it was ok, he wanted her to be comfortable with him, he knew what was about to happen, and he wanted it to be good and perfect for Y/n. Back in time he had heard about what it was like when other men over talked about it at Galas as they dragged around the women they called their own, but they only used them for pleasure and as trophies, but Bruce promised himself, that whoever was placed in his life he would love and respect, care for them and have them come first in everything,Â
  âNo no, I need your words baby, please?â
  Y/n knew Bruce only said this because it was his first time and he needed to hear that it was ok. She was still kinda surprised that he didnât have a body count, he was the freakin Prince of Gotham, he could have anyone, yet, here he was between her legs needing to hear her say it was ok to take off her blouse. But it was her first time too, she wanted to hear his words as well. She was nervous and her heart was beating rapidly, she had heard stories about pleasure and all but they always said it was painful and that men only focused on themselves, but she trusted Bruce, she wanted to believe that they would both be there for each other and nothing else. Y/n put her hands over his and confirmed,
  âItâs ok, you can touch me Bruce, wherever-â
  âWherever?â
Â Â ïżœïżœïżœYes.. may I-â
  âYes yes please. Iâm yours Y/n, all of me.â
  âand Iâm yours too, all of me.â
  âok.â
  âok.â
 They gave each other a warm big smile and they helped other strip to the bare, letting the scars that painted their skin be exposed. But in each otherâs eyes they only saw they best of themselves, not letting shame and fear come over them, pouring their love for each other regardless of what there scars screamed. Â
  Bruce then got between her legs and held himself up with his elbows to not put his full weight on her body, he kissed her gently and praised,
   âYouâre so beautiful.. I love you Y/n Y/l/n.â
 She breathed out a sigh of relief and happiness,
   âI love you more Bruce Wayne.â

I was curious if youâd be up for headcanon of adopting Gabi Braun, or what itâs like being her older sibling?
If not maybe just Pieck relationship headcanons
Please and thank you
im so sorry im getting to this so late đđ€ ty for requesting âŒïž
âŒïžCONTENT WARNING: SPOILERS FOR SEASON 4 AND CHAPTER 139âŒïž
adopting gabi braun headcanons (canonverse)
characters: gf!sasha braus x gn!reader, platonic!gabi braun x gn!reader, fatherly!levi ackerman x gn!reader, platonic!falco grice x gn!reader
warnings: death, angst, hatred for kids (fuck them kidsâŒïž), peepaw levi đđ
- uhhhhhh,, your relationship w gabi had a very rocky start. Lol !
- it all started when your friend eren jaeger decided to run away to infiltrate marley causing the survey corps to go get him just as a war was declared between your countries, and then two kids snuck onto the airship you were using to escape and shot your girlfriend. and she died. Lol !
- you had a lot of hatred for gabi in the beginning, and it was understandable
- you blamed her for shooting sasha, but you also blamed yourself for not being able to save her.
- you were a trained medic, you were supposed to save people, and yet you couldnt even save the woman you loved. it was like a slap in the face, like god was playing some cruel joke on you
- you remember sitting against the wall with sasha's blood staining your hands. you could barely process what happened at the time, and then levi came
- he sat next to you, taking a handkerchief out of nowhere seemingly, and just wordlessly wiped your hands down.
- your relationship with the older man was never defined, even today, but you both cared for each other
- the next time you saw gabi, was in that restaurant, niccolo had attacked gabi and falco, injuring them both, and said she killed sasha
- your blood went cold, you felt so many things, the grief you had pushed down in favour of your job, anger, fear, among other things
- niccolo had said there needed to be justice, he said that gabi should die for what she did, he tried to get sasha's father to kill her, and all you did was stand there.
- your body went on autopilot, barely listening to mr. braus' speech, you watched as kaya pointed a knife at gabi, and you listened to her wails of agony as you blindly led mikasa, armin, and gabi to a different room
- you were scared of yourself, for what you were thinking. did you really want a kid to die ? she did kill your girlfriend, the woman you wanted to spend the rest of your life with, the woman that shared her food with you, the woman that held you when you got scared at night, the woman that promised you that after the war you two would live on a farm together, and have a family of your own.
- but she was still a child. she didnt know any better. you were conflicted in your feelings, especially after hearing what niccolo had said, but it all just emphasized what was already known to you. she was a child
- your blood was pounding in your ears, and you could faintly hear gabi asking your comrades if they wanted to kill her. when armin reassured her they didnt, she looked to you and asked "what about them ?"
- you didnt answer her, and continued to lead them down where eren would be meeting you all. you were supposed to drop them off, but eren made you stay, and then a fight broke out
- you dont remember when you did it, but you held gabi in your arms, shielding her from the fight. you think you needed to be held more than she did
- things got more complicated after that, and slowly the hatred you had for sasha's killer went away, until all you had left was a hole in your chest from guilt and sadness.
- at fort salta, you thought you were going to die there, next to your friends. you thought you'd become a mindless titan, like connie's family
- but you didnt, well you did, but only for a short time, and when you turned back, you reunited with your friends
- looking around for gabi, you saw her tackle falco into a hug, which made you smile
- "y/n !" jean called, you remember looking behind you in confusion, he sounded distressed, but you understood why when you saw sasha saluting the three of you
- you felt your legs move on your own, and you ran closer to her, before stopping about a meter away. she was dead, you knew she was dead, but she was there, wearing that goofy smile on her face and looking at you as if you'd hung the stars in the sky
- she looked at you. "you did good." hearing her voice felt like a dream. your mouth felt dry, and your jaw opened and closed like a fish before you felt tears sting your eyes. "i love you."
- she nodded, before looking at the sky. "i know." she replied. sasha looked back at you before giving you a soft smile. "you know what to do now." before she disappeared in the debris
- you knew what to do, so you did it
- you found levi sitting against a rock, and when you leaned down next to him he muttered something. "i saw erwin again. and hange. all of them." you nodded. "i saw sasha." he looked at you, and gave you the closest thing to a smile. "i guess we're both at peace now."
*****
- three years later, you've become a school teacher in paradis, teaching young children how to read, to write, and basic math. you teach them about art and music, and nature. its nice being surrounded by children all day, kids are lovely.
- you live with gabi, falco and levi, in a small house inside wall sina. levi's legs have gotten weaker with time, causing him to use a wheelchair and crutches. he's given up on his dream of a tea shop, but is content with the life he has now.
- gabi and falco have gotten more rowdy with age, but they've both matured quite a bit. they make you proud
- you send letters to sasha's family. kaya is growing up, and has taken over archery just like her sister. niccolo is living with them now.
- you'll never be able to let go of sasha, or what happened to her, but the pain in your chest has dulled immensely. you think about her sometimes, when youre in bed alone, wanting to feel the warmth of her body in your arms, you know you should move on, you get teased about not having a new girlfriend, even levi has made comments about there being "plenty of fish in the sea"
it was a late night, on a friday. you were grading spelling tests at the dining room table, one lone candle being your source of light. your pen moves swiftly across the different pieces of paper, adding check marks or x marks when needed, adding a note at the bottom of each test, before adding a smiley face on all of your students' hard work. it was tedious, but it needed to be done, and you had to remember to bring them in on monday, you couldn't forget like last time.
you heard footsteps coming down the stairs. they were soft, and slow, and at first you thought it was levi but realized it couldn't be since you couldn't hear the soft tapping of his crutches on the stairs. they came down to the bottom and stood there, it was gabi, dressed in a light pink nightgown that came down to her knees, and her disheveled hair in the braid you did for her before bed.
you pushed your reading glasses to the top of your head. "what are you doing up ? it's late."
she shrugged, and walked over to sit across from you at the table. gabi grabbed the stack of papers that you already graded and shuffled through them, giggling when she found a misspelling.
you rolled her eyes. "don't laugh, they're six."
she shook her head. "i was spelling ten times better than this when i was their age."
"uh huh."
"are you calling my bluff ?"
you chuckled. "maybe. you should be in bed though."
"why ? it's not like we have school tomorrow."
you shrugged. "i was thinking we could go on a picnic outside the walls. it gets stuffy in here."
she nodded. "that would be fun."
the silence came back for a while, until you finished grading and set your papers aside.
"you know, i hear you sometimes." she whispered.
you looked at the brunette in confusion. "how do you mean ?"
"when your in bed, sometimes you cry."
you scoffed, and leaned back in your chair. "yeah well, i try to muffle it."
"i don't think ive ever apologized to you," she started. her eyes welled up with tears and her hands shook on the table. her cheeks and nose became pink as she held herself back from crying. "i know i feel bad, and i regret killing her but, i've never actually apologized to you for-"
"don't." you said. you kept your eyes on your lap, you felt your throat growing tight. "please gabi, don't say anything."
"i need to apologize-"
"you don't. you killed her. she's dead, the war is over. it's done. just let it go." you said, your voice wavering.
"have you let it go ?"
your head shot up to her. "i lost the woman i was going to spend the rest of my life with. she promised me a safe home, a farm, and a family. and she promised we'd grow old together. and that didn't happen. i grew up with her, i've known her since i was twelve, we started dating when i was sixteen. of course i haven't let it go, gabi."
gabi looked shocked by your outburst, but nodded. she understood how you felt, and she felt so guilty. "you don't forgive me do you ? i get it, i really do. i'm sorry."
you shook your head. "gabi no, i do. i do forgive you. i just, i can't forget it." you whimpered, tears started streaming down your face and you choked back a sob. "i loved her with all of my heart, i still do, but i don't hate you-"
gabi rolled her eyes, tears coming out uncontrollably now. "you should. i killed her, i ruined your chance of a happy life ! she was your family and i-"
"gabi no !" you exclaimed, cutting her off. at this point you both looked like a mess, and you were worried you woke up the boys. you grabbed her shaking hands in your own and held them to you. "you are my family. you are. so is falco, and so is levi. i forgive you, and i love you with all of my heart." you said, a sad smile on your face. her eyes widened at your words, before she started sobbing.
you got up from the table to come to her side, and held her in your arms as she cried. her arms wrapped around your shoulders while she dug her head into your neck, tickling you with her hair.
you rubbed her back and cradled her head while shushing her. she sobbed out a muffled "i love you so much y/n." that you chuckled at.
"i love you too so much." you whispered back.
it took a long time for gabi to calm down, but when she did you still held her, rocking her and yourself back and forth slightly. you two moved from the chairs down to the floor, funny enough.
you kissed the top of her head before talking, the only noise in the room being your whispers, her sniffles and the living room clock. "you know reiner's coming home soon. are you excited ?" she nodded against your skin and sniffled again, clearing her throat too.
"i hope he brings me a gift or something." she whispered back, her voice hoarse. it made you laugh, and you had to cover your mouth to keep quiet.
"they're going to shiganshina district for a couple of days, to visit mikasa and eren, and then mikasa will come with them to the capital."
"do you miss her ?" she asked.
"so much. i miss all of them, but mikasa is a close friend of mine, she holds a special place in my heart."
"do you think you and levi will go to the meetings between the marley ambassadors and the jaegerists ?" she asked.
"maybe, if they feel as though they really need us."
you sighed through your nose, which was a bit stuffy from crying. "after we turned back into humans, i saw sasha again."
gabi lifted her head up from where it was resting on your shoulder. "what ?"
"yeah, i saw her ghost i think." you looked down on her with a smile on your face. "she told me i knew what i needed to do, and then i went and got levi and you and falco." you paused for a moment, thinking about how you would word what you were thinking. "i did what i needed to do, i got my family together." gabi's eyes widened. "sasha promised me a family, and although this wasn't the family i had envisioned, it's still a family nonetheless. i believe her last gift to me was you, falco, and levi. and i am so grateful to have you all in my life."
gabi smiled before hugging you. she opened her mouth to say something-
"oi !" a deep voice came from the top of the stairs. "you two woke me up with all of your crying. go to bed." before your heard the creaking of the floorboards and the closing of a door.
you chuckled before standing up, pulling gabi with you. you walked her to her room, and even tucked her in, you both exchanged 'i love yous' and 'goodnights' before you retreated from her bedroom, closing the door behind you.
across the hall, levi stood leaned on his doorway with his arms crossed together. "that family speech, that was cute." he commented. you rolled your eyes at the older man. "were you listening in on a private conversation ?" you teased.
the ex-captain scoffed and looked away. "go to bed y/n. we have a picnic to go on tomorrow." before closing his door.
you chuckled to yourself, remembering how you brought up the idea to him that morning, and he only replied with a curt "we'll see" before sipping on his morning tea.
you went back to your own room, and got into your bed. you turned on your side, and looked at the space you always left open for sasha, and brushed your hand against the pillow.
"goodnight love."

sk8 headcanons because i am Bored
autistic langa likes frozen fruit a lotâstrawberries are his favoriteâbecause he likes the cool texture
reki has lip freckles that really stand out after heâs been in the sun a lot ! thereâs like four or five of them :)
just thinking about âall those friday nights / under the lights / under the bleachers together / you and i were meant to be something more than a faded memory / till you and i / something divided usâ but matchablossom,,,
âbut iâve already lost it once / what i already won / iâve lost too much now to care / but i know that somethingâs still thereâ ,,, matchablossom,,, ahhhhh
miya and shadow being besties,,, shadow being miyaâs parental figure and miya being his adopted nb child,,,
shadow being the first person miya comes out as nonbinary to,,,
adam going to jail,,,
reki having a stuffed animal collection and letting miya name some and then realizing that miya never had a stuffed animal growing up so reki gives miya one of his older ones that he loved as a child and then buys them a new one too⊠and miya asks reki to name it for them because sentiments,,,
after seeing the girl he had a crush on kiss someone else, shadow takes out his feelings on the only thing he knows how toâskating at s but heâs not in a good mind and he feels sick because he thought he thought he thought he had a chance and he doesnât pay close enough attention and gets hurt and miya calls him an idiot and patches him up and shadow feels like a kid again but itâs kind of nice to have someone else actually help with his wounds instead of just attempting to wash them and then cover them with makeup by himself,,,
joe and shadow bonding over hating the feeling of loneliness so they make up for it the only way they know how which is being loud and being extra because they donât feel as lonely if theyâre loud
reki, miya, and cherry = adhd club
cherry and reki drawing together⊠and reki teaching cherry how to be more loose and carefree when he draws and cherry teaching reki how to add more structure to his art,,,
langa stealing and wearing rekiâs headbands,,,
langa with glasses
rekiâs sisters doing cherry and joeâs hair,,, or even reki, langa, and miya doing their hair and shadow just watches and takes pictures and reki puts cherryâs hair in fishtails because he had practice with his sisters and cherry secretly likes it (and so does joe) and miya and langa just. completely messing up joeâs hair and putting hair clips in it and langa attempts a ponytail kind of like how cherry does his hair at s (and no cherry did Not find it very attractive shut up)
shadow being a scrapbooker and having like ten scrapbooks from his life,,,
shadow not being as good of an artist as cherry or reki but he does it because he enjoys it and when cherry and reki find out they invite him to draw with them
the crew / sk8 fam all going to shadowâs house and doing a couple scrapbook pages together and itâs a mess but itâs them and itâs one of shadowâs favorite pages because heâs never scrapbooked with anyone before
langa is just naturally beautiful and photogenic so the art squad always asks him to model for them if they want to draw people
joe has depression because i want him to
and shadow has anxiety
because i do Not want any of them to be neurotypical
yeah so joe has depression, shadow has anxiety, cherry has add and anxiety, miya had adhd and separation anxiety, langa is autistic, reki has touretteâs and adhd and depression âđ»
when miya gets old enough, shadow gets them a part time job at the flower shop
miya likes a lot of pillows
langa sleeps with no pillows (unless reki is partially his pillow)
thinking about after rekiâs second beef with adam,,, joe after he tells adam off and theyâre away from the crowd, he passes out because letâs be realâthere is absolutely no way he didnât get injured and the worse one is probably a broken nose and a huge gash at the back of his head with like skin peeling and stuff like need stitches so the gang all goes to cherryâs and they help patch reki up
somewhere in that time the love hotel gets brought up and by extension getting hit by the car and getting beat up and joe and shadow are on the verge of slamming their heads against the wall at rekiâs nonchalantness
and rekiâs p injured so heâs laying in the couch with his head resting in langaâs lap,,,
joe tells everyone embarrassing cherry stories from school like all the time (but joe was a foolish child so cherry gets revenge)
miya likes crime documentaries
joe unironically watched supernatural and thatâs part of the reason why he and cherry broke up
(maybe joe just thought dean was attractiveâsue him!)
lol wait what if cherry sued adam to pay for rekiâs medical bills since they inevitably had to take him to the hospital
cherry constantly tells joe that he will sue him
joe may unironically watched spn, but cherry unironically watched glee
langa wrote destiel fanfiction once upon a time
langa wrote cas bakes dean a pie--
miya is carlaâs favorite (after cherry)
cherry and langa with weighted blankets also
sometimes reki steals langaâs but only if he stays the night or langa brings it over and usually if he âstealsâ it, itâs them sharing it or reki needs the comfort of the weight if heâs not having a good time mentally lol
joe with depression,,, i just think about that a lot sometimes,,, sometimes cooking feels meaningless and, like langa, he only feels something when he skates but itâs only this temporary feeling of joy and life,,,
and shadow with anxiety,,, over-compensating his anxiety by being shadow at night and being over the top and sometimes mean because internalized ableism,,, and if he pretends he doesnât have anxiety then maybe he wonât feel it late at night or when everything seems to go wrong during a shift at work and he keeps dropping flowers because his hands are shaking and girls donât like guys with anxiety, right ??? so shadow thinks that he CANâT have anxiety :/// poor dude
miya with separation anxiety pushing people away before they get attached because if they push them away before they become friends, then they wouldnât be able to leave them,,,
langa always bouncing his foot in class and all the time because itâs his main form of stimming (look at that boy and try to tell me he doesnât bounce his legs like thereâs no tomorrow i dare you) and sometimes it makes his legs sore and cherry and joe once recommended using a heating pad if it got really sore and langa does sometimes and it makes him happy
reki with ts having anxiety when he has to speak in front of the class / do presentations because heâs hyper-aware of his tics,,, so he always meets langaâs eyes and watches langa the whole time and langa sometimes mimes taking deep breaths which really helps but honestly just seeing langa makes reki feel like he can do anything (because he would do anything for langa)
cherry doodling to stim as a child and always getting in trouble for it because teachers used to like get pissed when students doodled (or maybe they still do and itâs just always been pissy teachers and not specifically teachers when our parents were kids) and eventually cherry got fed up with getting points docked for doodling so he started writing lists and stuff and been realized he had impeccable handwriting (also joe let cherry doodle on his hand during classes they had together so cherry wouldnât get in trouble)
cherry once had a dream that he was rachel berry and joe was finn uhh *insert last name here* from glee and joe had a beautiful voice when they sang duets in his dream so he managed to convince joe to sing in reality and turns out joe cannot sing and cherryâs glee dreams were never the same (look i am tired lol)
joe likes being the strong one in the group and he enjoys being able to mess around / show off by just casually picking people up (he also does it as an expression of love because theyâre basically hugs depending on how he holds you) and one day cherry is like⊠done with it ??? and just strolls up to joe and just throws him over his shoulder or something and joe combusts because he did Not know cherry can do that and no his face isnât red shut up he doesnât find this attractive whatâre you talking about
miya wants a sword and keeps trying to convince everyone to get them one for their birthday but no one will agree because âtheyâll hurt themselves and everyone else it does not matter that all your favorite characters have swords that does not mean You should have oneâ
langa is the kind of person that puts peanut butter on a cheeseburger
rekiâs love language is a mix of gift giving and acts of service, but he tends to lean more towards giving gifts. his receiving love language is words of affirmation but he does Not know that yet (langa doesâhence his constant âyouâre amazing, rekiââand eventually so does the rest of their gang lol)
shadow likes theatre
miya has internet friends,,, so does cherry,,,
joe posts those affirmations on his story all the time
rekiâs texts are sometime hard to read because a) his hands get injured a lot and b) touretteâs but langa (and soon the others) learn how to read reki texts
langa sleeps with a fan on for white noise
shadow was worried (and feeling a little left out but if he doesnât acknowledge it, then that emotion is not real⊠thatâs how that works, right???) since he was in the hospital when reki skated against adam the second time, so when they all went back to cherryâs to tend to rekiâs numerous wounds and also celebrate friendship, miya kept shadow on a face time call the entire evening
langa has an android phone
reki is super comfortable with periods because he lives with five girlsâhe also usually has a couple of pads and tampons on him at all times because heâs the older sibling lol
langa wears socks with sandals,,, so does shadow,,,
shadowâs feet get cold easily so he wears fluffy socks a lot
cherry keeps his fingernails at the perfect length to dramatically tap them against the table (also to freak people out by doing that)
miya is Not a morning person
miya also likes having the windows to shadowâs car rolled up because their hair gets in their face otherwise but shadow likes them down so itâs this constant struggle
i still stand by cherry suing ad*m and using the money he won to pay for rekiâs medical bills (⊠and shadowâs⊠and langaâs if he needs any)
i just feel like many people have reason to sue ad*m
ponytail langa rights
joe had really bad acne as a child and teen and cherry helped him feel less self-conscious about it and helped him embrace having acne and thatâs one reason why he exposes so much skin as joe because itâs a reminder of personal growth <3
also joe has acne scars on his chin and cheeks
joe has cherryâs calligraphy all over his walls
ik i already said so in reki with ts headcanons but he doodles pictures for everyone in the sk8 fam and they all keep each and every one and shadow even puts them in his scrapbook
let langa punch adam 2k21
let reki punch adam 2k21
actually they All deserve to punch adam 2k21
miyaâs favorite movie is coraline
langa canât snap his fingers
joe and cherry always argue over whether even numbers or odd numbers are best
miya does esports
joe was in marching band and was in drumline
cherry stays up late to look at the stars and he had those plastic stars taped to his ceiling as a child
reki eats tomatoes like apples and it makes joe want to cry
okay if the atla & and the sk8 characters became internet friends⊠these are who i think theyâd be internet friends withâŠ
cherry: katara
joe: suki
langa: sokka
miya: aang
reki: zuko
shadow: toph
note: suki, joe, miya, and aang are all actually besties. aang is the kind of person that would usually annoy miya but they just canât dislike aang no matter how much he may want to and they somehow find themselves attached
but suki and miya would also get along really well because I know they would and aang and joe would just have fun and like itâs what they deserve so they are interchangeable / all besties
also sk8 characters if they were benders...
cherry: fire or waterbender,,, cannot decide
joe: earthbender
langa: waterbender
miya: firebender
reki: resident nonbender
shadow: earthbender
#corey rambles:)#i have a lot of feelings#also i am really bored#no i totally didn't spend like a half hour going through texts with grace just to find all the sk8 headcanons i sent her wHAT#i should be doing homework but uhhh instead i am thinking about Them#it's fine everything is fine the day isn't over yet but it will be over soon keep it together twilight keep it together--#anyways this was brought to you by corey = bored#sk8 headcanons#kyan reki with touretteâs#kyan reki#hasegawa langa#higa hiromi#chinen miya#sakurayashiki kaoru#nanjo kojiro#sk8 langa#sk8 reki#sk8shadow#sk8 miya#sk8 cherry#sk8 joe#y'all idk what to do i might just write fanfiction#at least i'm bored in my apt and not in the er hahhahhahhhahahahha wednesday#maybe i'll make some tater tots#oh and i stand by the glee and spn one#i am not wrong#joe had a crush on dean winchester#anyways i'll stop talking to myself in the tags#lol#wait i will also die on scrapbooking shadow hill

Lila Rossi: Iâd Say Sheâs a Good Villain, but Then Iâd Be Lying (300 Follower Special)
Deception and cunning are easily two of the most important traits an antagonist could have. It shows that even if they don't have the strength to overcome obstacles, their wit is more than enough. This kind of trait is why characters like Lex Luthor, David Xanatos, and Princess Azula are so beloved, simply because of how intelligent they can be as villains and pose a real threat to the heroes.
It's clear that the Miraculous Ladybug writers want Lila to be seen as this, but the writing seriously fails to back that claim up.
Easily one of the most controversial characters in Miraculous Ladybug is Lila, mainly for the writing surrounding her. But there was a time where she was actually more of an ambiguous character, mainly for the lack of screentime she had until Season 3. But unfortunately, the more appearances she's had have painted a very poor portrait of an antagonist.
Lila's Tragic and Sympathetic Motivation for Hating Ladybug
Lila's first appearance was at the tail end of Season 1, âVolpinaâ. She was a new transfer student from Italy, and quickly made friends with a lot of her classmates for the lies she told, including being friends with Ladybug (which Alya blindly believed without doing any research like any excellent journalist). But because of how close she was getting to Adrien, Marinette, in a rare act of selfishness, transforms into Ladybug just to chew out Lila for lying about knowing her, humiliating her in front of Adrien. And this is the only motivation we get for what Lila does afterwards.
I'm not saying that it's wrong for Lila to get upset at Ladybug for doing this, and I like the moment of weakness Marinette has, but this is literally the only explanation we get for Lila deciding to side with Hawkmoth, a literal terrorist. As much as I hated the way the arc turned out, I could still understand Chloe siding with Hawkmoth, as it was clear that Hawkmoth was manipulating her and taking advantage of her ego. Lila? Ladybug's mean to her one time, and that inspires her to conspire with a complete stranger who brainwashes people to attack the city, which endangers innocent people and causes God knows how much in collateral damage if not for Miraculous Ladybug fixing everything.
I just don't get how a single negative interaction with someone is enough to conspire with a literal supervillain. Even in Season 3, when Marinette and Lila truly became enemies, it was because she risked exposing all the lies she told, which could damage her reputation. Sure, it's petty, but it makes sense for Lila to want to keep up the illusion. If she was simply an antagonist to Marinette in her civilian life like Chloe was before âMiracle Queenâ , I'd be fine with that, but the writers clearly want her to be seen as on the same level of evil as Hawkmoth. I'll get into why that doesn't work later on.
Why Lila is an Excellent Liar
In my Master Fu analysis, I had pointed out that despite all the flaws he had, the narrative insisted on portraying him as an incredibly wise mentor. The same problem applies for Lila as well. We're supposed to see Lila as an expert manipulator and liar, but her lies are insultingly obvious. She always claims to be friends with celebrities and does all these awesome things, and in an age where we can have almost any question answered thanks to the internet, nobody ever stops to question her.
It's even more frustrating when you hear Lila talk about saving Jagged Stone's cat, when Jagged Stone is established to be very fond of Marinette (evidentially more than his own daughter), and nobody ever points that out. I think if Lila's lies were more stories about her travels around the world than outright lies about real people, it could have worked. It'd still be hard to believe, but it's something.
But this is a problem with writing shows aimed at children. As much as we hate writers who need to spell out things to kids, sometimes, they just don't understand some of the media they consume. Seriously, I never got this joke in SpongeBob as a kid, and I can't believe Nickelodeon actually approved this.
youtube
So the dilemma when writing a show with children in mind is finding that sweet spot between assuming your audience can figure it out, but not being too vague in your details. It's even harder when you need to find a way to convey the fact that someone is lying without being too obvious. Unfortunately, the show clearly fails to do that
Okay, this is going to sound like an incredibly weird thing to cite, and I only know about it because I used to know someone who was a huge fan of the franchise, but the movie Monster High: Friday Night Frights does a better job of subtly explaining to the audience that a character is lying. Please, just hear me out.
The movie follows the main characters competing in their high school's roller derby for the season after everyone on the usual team gets injured, and the championship match is against another school whose team tends to cheat to win matches. How they manage to do this without getting caught is anyone's guess. While the main characters are practicing, their coach, Clawd, notices a spy for the enemy team taking video of them to study their moves. In response, he calls over one of the athletes, Operetta, to chew her out for her showboating attitude. In reality, he's alerting her to the spy. Only using facial expressions, he clues her, and by extension, the audience, in on the fact that they know what the opposing team is trying to do.
This soon leads to Operetta pretending to tell the enemy team about their secret plan for the championship match, which was really an attempt to outsmart them to gain the advantage in the final stretch. The brilliance of this is how the audience is informed of this with no dialogue, and there's no scene afterwards spelling it out for those who don't get it. It manages to convey deception without being too obvious that Clawd and Operetta are being deceitful.
I think if there were more subtle hints to show the audience Lila was lying, she would be seen in a better light. As it is, Lila's lies are just pathetic, and it's ridiculous that everyone believes her. Which leads me to...
Lila, the Master Manipulator
I once read a Star Trek: Voyager fanfic that poked fun at the series by claiming that the reason a lot of the dumber episodes like âThresholdâ and âTwistedâ happened was because one of the crew members was an alien who unintentionally produced mood altering pheromones, with Captain Janeway actually realizing they were all high because of said pheromones, while two of the unaffected crew members were wondering what the hell they were doing before they found out the cause. Why do I bring this up? Sometimes, it feels like Lila is an unintentional parallel to the alien in that story.
Like so many characters, it's clear the show desperately wants the audience to view Lila in a certain way, but her actions do very little to actually back up that claim. When she's not using lies to tell stories about so many famous people she knows like her uncle who works for Nintendo, Lila is using strategies to manipulate everyone that are so obviously deceptive, the Thermians could pick up on them. Everyone and their mother knows how ridiculous a lot of what Lila does in episodes like âChameleonâ and âLadybugâ are, and I've talked about them before, so I'll try to be quick.
First off, as someone who had access to accommodations through high school and has had assistance in college so far, there is no way in hell that Ms. Bustier should take Lila's tinnitus at face value in âChameleonâ. If a student has a disability that could interfere with the education process, physical or developmental, not only does the school have to evaluate their performance, and determine if they're eligible for an Individualized Education Program, or IEP, but her teachers would have to be notified in the first place. As her primary educator, Ms. Bustier would be part of the team to oversee Lila's IEP and determine what accommodations she needs to help her learn better with her tinnitus and arthritis. But because the writers don't know what Google is, they just ignore it, Â assume that Lila can just say she has a disability, and have everyone believe it. Even when Eric Cartman pretended to be disabled to compete in the Special Olympics, he put in more effort to look the part, even if he looked like a caricature.
Then there's the fact that that in âChameleonâ, everyone just believes Lila when she says Marinette stole her grandmother's necklace when not only is said necklace from the Agreste line of jewelry, but Alya, who is Rena Rouge, can't pick up on the fact that it's a fake. All she does to justify these lies is come up with a sob story about how nobody believes her, yet nobody ever tries to defend Marinette except Alya one time, and it was after she got expelled.
Or what about in âOni-Chanâ, where Lila thinks having Kagami kill Ladybug while claiming she'll back away from Adrien is a good idea? Let's say Oni-Chan does kill Ladybug or at least take away her Miraculous, what then? We know Lila wouldn't go through with this promise, and as soon as Kagami sees her harassing Adrien, she'll be ripe for akumatization again. Overall, not a great plan.
And yet somehow, this last example is what made her worthy enough to become one of Hawkmoth's most trusted agents. I'm just going to say it: Lila is not a good fit for the power of illusion. Whenever she's Volpina or Chameleon, she always goes out of her way to make a big show instead of being subtle with her deceptions. âChameleonâ is the worst offender, as even though Lila gets the power to shapeshift into someone else, instead of being discreet and cornering people into kissing them and gaining their appearance, she just runs around to get Ladybug's attention instead of being subtle. Even Felix had the bright idea to pretend to be Adrien to catch Ladybug off guard. How do you lose to something that happened in âFelixâ?
Despite all of these screw-ups, we're still supposed to see her as this master of deception worthy of allying with Hawkmoth in both his supervillain and civilian form, when really, she's a terrible liar on the schoolyard and on the battlefield.
Why Lila is an Important Character
In the grand scheme of things, Lila just isn't as important of a character that the show loves to parade her around as. She's nothing more than a plot device used to raise the stakes in an episode, given how much reality seems to bend over just to accommodate for her lies. Even when the show alludes to her being part of bigger things, like her deal with Adrien, or her rivalry with Marinette, they don't even go anywhere.
She just feels pointless when you remember Astruc's brilliant idea to force Chloe into being the final Akuma for the season while Lila isn't even mentioned once. She only really makes appearances whenever the writers feel like it, which is why itâs hard to take her seriously. Why should I take this character seriously as a threat if the writers refuse to take her seriously as a threat? Why build Lila up as a big threat and not give her a major role in the finale? Why even include her in the show in the first place when you could show Chloe being more manipulative to fill in the plots Lila plays a big part in?
As of the time I am writing this analysis, four episodes of Season 4 have aired, three of them have been about lies or deception, and Lila hasn't been mentioned at all. It honestly seems like she won't appear unless the writers need a easy way to drive up the conflict, so they can justify it by saying that Lila's âsuperpowerâ of lying is more powerful than the common sense of everyone else.
I'm sorry this post was shorter than the last one, but compared to Master Fu, there's not that much to say about Lila that I haven't already said. Even the show barely gives her any attention, so it's hard for me to really find a lot to talk about.

It's been a while, but the Undertaker role on Friday night among us got me thinking!
The glitch where a player doesn't die instantly after being injured happens again, this time to Etho. He's in shock at first and can't communicate what's going on, and the Undertaker imposter (pick who might go best with Etho) starts to drag him away. The Imposter quickly realises that somehow, horribly, this guy isn't actually dead, and makes a snap decision to drag him to the medbay and try to save him rather than hiding the body, knowing they'll probably get seen on the way and have their cover blown. Whether or not the Imposter succeeds in their first aid attempt is up to you!
(Also gives room to explain Etho's absense that night with him having to recover from the glitch! Fluffy recovery opportunities!)
yay for the return of the long-and-painful-death glitch! lol
technically a sequel to this one
...
  Itâs the first match of the session and the tension is palpable. The newest role has everyone quietly excited: the Undertaker role, allowing an imposter to move a body from one place to another. Itâs such a simple thing and yet, as with all the special roles, it could be a game-changer.Â
  Crewmate Etho is on his own again, monitoring the cameras in security. Thereâs six people left and even though theyâve already ejected Impulse, Etho isnât completely convinced it was him. He has two suspects in mind, and he wants to make sure he knows where they are.Â
  But all of a sudden, he hears the vent flap open and he spins aroundâŠ
  ...just in time to see a flash of green and feel a sharp pain in his stomach.Â
  Etho sinks to his knees, pressing his hand against the wound to try and help the pain. He lets himself collapse to the floor, the agony dulling his senses and threatening to pull him under. Heâs not even attempting to stem the blood flow; he knows heâll be dead in seconds.Â
  But seconds go by.
  A minute.
  He doesnât die.
  His mind is fuzzy. But he knows something is wrong. He just canât do anything about it except lie on the ground and slowly bleed out.
  Eventually, something takes hold of him under the arms and starts to drag him away. Even though heâs seconds from death, he feels a bolt of panic and he lets out a groan.
  Immediately, the grip on him is released and at the same time, he hears a quiet yelp: âHOLY fu-!â
  A very brief pause.
  âE-EthoâŠ? Are you⊠aliveâŠ?â
  This time, Etho canât muster another noise. But as he attempts to move his hand, arm, leg, anything, his chest spasms and he lets out an involuntary cough.
  âOh my actual god, you ARE aliveâŠ!â
  Etho is able to identify the voice now, and itâs one of the people he suspected of being the imposter.Â
  But before he can make another attempt to speak or move, Brody takes hold of him again and continues dragging him. More panic hits him; Brody must be the Undertaker but he knows Ethoâs not dead, so where is he taking him? He wishes he could look but when he opens his eyes, the world around him is still too fuzzy for him to register where he is.
  Finally, Brody stops dragging him and heaves him up. Etho canât work out what Brody is trying to do until he registers a soft surface below him and he realises.
  Brody has brought him to medbay.
  âStay with me, Etho,â Brody murmurs, hurriedly collecting up first aid supplies. The benefit of being an imposter here is the fact that heâs able to shut the medbay doors to ensure heâs not disturbed.Â
  But he realises there are two people who need to know about this.Â
  Thankfully, one of them vents into the room just as Brody is cutting open Ethoâs shirt to access the wound.Â
  âBrody, what on earth are you doing?â Astro demands. âWhat is this?â
  Brody fixes him with such a serious look that a chill runs down Astroâs spine. âAstro, thereâs been a glitch. When you stabbed Etho, he didnât quite die.â
  Astro stares at him in shock. âWh-What?â
  âHeâs still alive and suffering horrible pain. Astro, I need you to go get Evil.â
  Astro, frozen in horror at what heâs caused, doesnât move.
  âGo get Evil!â snaps Brody, giving him a quick push. âJust GO!â
  Managing to shake himself into action, Astro jumps back into the vent.
  Brody turns back to Etho and finishes cleaning up the wound. Unfortunately, the majority of the machinery in medbay is just for show, so he canât assess any internal injuries Etho has. But all he really needs to do is keep Etho alive until the game ends.Â
  As Brody is patching up the wound, the medbay doors slide open and Astro reappears, followed by Evil. Astro closes the medbay doors again while Evil dashes over to the bed, his worried eyes asking a silent question.
  âIt happened again,â Brody confirms.Â
  âAgain?!â Astro bursts out. âThis has happened before?â
  Evil nods slowly, ignoring Astro. âYou two are the imposters, then?âÂ
  âYeah. But I donât care about that now. I just need to keep Etho alive until the game ends. The post-game process will heal him.â
  âGuys, WHAT are you talking about?â Astro demands. âWhatâs going on?â
  Brody huffs annoyedly. âEvil, catch him up.â
  As Evil explains, Brody finishes patching up Ethoâs injury and starts to wrap a bandage around his body. Throughout all of this, Etho has remained pale and still, prompting Brody to continually check his pulse. Heâs still alive, but barely. Brodyâs treatment is helping him cling onto life.Â
  Evil appears back at Ethoâs side. âHow is he?â
  âHanging in there. Whereâs Astro?â
  Evil points over at the corner near the vent, where Astro is sitting against the wall with his knees drawn to his chest, his face buried in his hands.
  âWhatâs wrong with him?âÂ
  As a response, Evil simply gestures to Etho.
  After a moment, Brody sighs and hands the tail end of the bandage to Evil. âFinish this off for me quickly.â
  He joins Astro in the corner and crouches down next to him, awkwardly placing his hand on his friendâs shoulder. âThis isnât your fault, Astro,â he says.
  âHow is this not my fault?â Astro responds despondently, his voice muffled through his hands. âI caused this.â
  âYou were playing the game. Thereâs no way you couldâve known this would happen.â
  He doesnât get a response to this, so he gently pulls Astroâs hands away from his face, forcing his friend to look him in the eye. âAstro. You canât blame yourself for this, okay? Etho is gonna be fine. And going by what happened last time, he wonât even remember that this happened.â
  âBut I will, wonât I?â asks Astro quietly.Â
  âActually, Iâm not sure,â Brody admits. âImpulse was the imposter in this situation last time and as far as I know, he never found out what happened.â
  âOh. So even though Etho wonât remember me stabbing him and leaving him to bleed out very slowly, I actually might?â
  Brody nods reluctantly. âYou might.â
  Astro lets put a low groan. âI feel sickâŠâÂ
  âBrody?â calls Evil at that moment, his voice low and shaky.
  Brody turns his head. âWhat?â
  âHe- Heâs not breathing.âÂ
  Brodyâs stomach drops and he shoots forward so fast he almost trips over. He rushes back to Ethoâs side and checks his friendâs pulse using both his wrist and his neck.Â
  He finds nothing.Â
  Touching Ethoâs hand, he finds his friendâs skin cold already, confirming what he already knows to be true.Â
  A muted noise comes from Astro as he turns away.Â
  As Brody hangs his head, Evil reaches over and gently touches his shoulder. âIâm sorry,â he murmurs.Â
  âWe need to end this game,â says Brody, forcing himself to keep his voice steady. âNow.â
  With almost no hesitation, Evil says, âOne of you kill me.â
  Brody glances sharply at him. âWhat?â
  âThereâs five of us left, right? Etho was the sixth. So thereâs five left now. Kill me and end the game.â
  âAre you sure?â asks Brody hesitantly. âThe glitch might happen again.âÂ
  âIâm sure,â Evil responds firmly. âLike you said, we need to end it. Itâll take too long to just vote you guys out; Iâm standing right here so you may as well end it by killing me.â He glances over at his friend. âAstro?â
  âNo,â says Astro shakily.Â
  âAstro, itâs okay.â
  âNo itâs NOT!â Astroâs voice rises. âYou think I can bear causing so much pain and suffering to two of my friends in the same game?! Iâm NOT killing you!âÂ
  Evil quickly nods. âOkay, I understand. Brody?â
  âArenât I in the same boat?â Brody says. âDo you really trust me to do it properly?â
  âYeah, I do.â Evil gives a brave smile. âI trust you, Brody. With my life.â
  Ignoring the twinge in his chest, Brody draws his gun and aims it directly at Evil. âOkay. Good luck.â
  Taking a deep breath, Brody fires.Â
  BANG.
  And luckily this time, the game acts as itâs supposed to.Â
  As soon as Brody respawns in the lobby, he rushes over to his friend. âEtho, hey. You good?â
  âMe?â Etho blinks. âYeah, why?â
  Brody gives a slow nod. âNothing. Just checking.â
  He draws Evil aside to a corner of the lobby. âOkay, Etho definitely doesnât remember,â he confirms.â
  âDoes Astro?â asks Evil.
  Brody glances over at their green-clad friend, whoâs leaning against the wall, arms folded and eyes staring blankly out into space.
  â...I think he might.â
  Evil and Brody approach Astro, who glances numbly at them as they get closer. âI remember,â is all he says.Â
  âSo the crewmate in the situation wonât remember what happened but the imposter will,â says Brody thoughtfully. âInteresting. I wonder why that is?â
  âI donât really care,â Astro responds bluntly. âI just want to forget that whole thing ever happened.â
  âNo, this is good. Kinda. It means youâre now part of our little trifecta of people who know about the glitch. Evil and I promised each other last time that if we experience this again as imposter, weâll go find each other and let them know, even if weâre the imposter.â He fixes his friends with a serious look. âThis is a dangerous glitch. Astro, promise me that if this does happen to you again, youâll come find one of us.â
  Astro watches him for a moment, before slowly nodding. âOkay. I- Hey, Ethoâs leaving.â
  Brody turns just in time to see Etho leave the lobby. Frowning, he quickly follows Etho out and catches him just going down the corridor. âEtho, wait!â
  Etho pauses and glances back. âOh, hey. I just let Tango know I had to leave; Iâm suddenly not feeling too great.â
  âO-Oh.â Brody stares at him. âIâm sorry to hear that. Feel better.â
  âThanks. See you.â
  Brody watches his friend disappear round the corner, his mind racing. This has NEVER happened before. Etho has never felt unwell this early in a session before â or really ever. Surely itâs no coincidence considering what happened last round? Even though his brain doesnât remember what happened, maybe his body does.Â
  Or maybe his code does.Â

with loki having returned to earth, the avengers call upon their newest recruit, an angel to help. only, loki refuses to believe the truth until itâs too late. (1.9k)Â

Sighing to himself, Tony walks away from the vault as Steve awaits him outside. âAny luck?â Steve asks, receiving a look that says more than words could. âWell, weâre not out of options yet.â Steve adds, trying his best to remain hopeful as Tony rolls his eyes.
âHe still not talking?â Natasha pipes up as the pair return to Tonyâs lab where the rest of the team stand, eager for any form of update.
âHe wonât budge, thanks for that, Thor.â Tony quips, shooting Thor a look who simply shrugs before placing his hammer down on the metal table with a heavy thud.
âItâs not my fault my brother is so unwilling.â Thor comments, keeping his head down.
âHe killed three people and threatened the lives of everyone in this building.â Natasha reminds him, and Thor raises his head meekly.
âHeâs adopted?â He weakly states.
âThis isnât enough, I think we gotta bring in the big guns.â Tony rises to his feet, pacing around the room as all eyes turn to him.
Shifting on the spot, Steve clears his throat before speaking up. âTony, I donât think thatâs wise.â
âOh, and do you have any better ideas, Cap?â Tony shoots back, frustration rising through him as Loki remains locked up in the vault, tormenting them endlessly. âDidnât think so.â He mutters under his breath. âFriday, can you send our sunshine a message to meet us in my lab?â
âOf course, Tony. Message sent.â Friday responds, and Steve glances over to Natasha, knowing itâs too soon.
Within a matter of minutes, you tiredly walk through the doors of Tonyâs lab, seeing the Avengers all stood around. âAm I crashing some kinda party?â You chuckle, but your laughter isnât well received based on the solemn expressions. âTough crowd.â
âHowâre you doing, sunshine?â Tony walks toward you, resting his arm over your shoulders.
âIâm better today.â You tell him truthfully. âHealing is taking a bit longer than usual, but Iâll be fine in a few days.â
Tony hums to himself, glancing over his shoulder to the rest of the team. âListen, Y/n, weâve got a favour to ask of you, and it might not be easy.â Tony begins and guides you back to face the rest of the Avengers.
Steve holds out a chair for you, noticing your breathing becoming shallow and your eyes drooping. You silently thank him as you sit down, glad to take the weight off your feet.
âHow can I help?â You ask, a bright smile on your face.
Despite everything youâve been through these past few months, youâre still more than willing to help everyone else.
âWell, Thorâs brother decided to pay us an unexpected visit,â Tony trails off as you raise a brow to Thor.
âLokiâs here?â You watch as Thor nods. After hearing countless stories from Thor about his brother, you canât believe heâs here. âSo where is he?â
âIn the vault.â Natasha states bluntly as you whip your head around. âSorry, Y/n. Itâs the safest place for him to be.â She adds, and you nod to yourself, knowing itâs probably for the best after what happened last time.
âHeâs not talking to anyone, is he?â You knew your goal at that moment as the Avengers nodded in response. âOkay.â You mutter under your breath as you rise to your feet, forcing back a groan as a sharp pain shoots up your side.
Steveâs hands hover naturally toward you, but you push through it. âWeâll be in here, Y/n.â Steve tells you. âIf you need us at all, or want out, just say.â He adds.
âThanks, Steve.â You smile sweetly before carrying on alongside Tony, heading toward the vault that you have only ever entered once.
âWe just wanna know what heâs planning, why heâs back and all.â Tony briefly explains what they currently know, and the many gaps in Lokiâs story as you stand in front of the doors to the vault.
You watch as two men open the doors, revealing a metal bridge leading to the glass container where Loki is sitting.
Loki lifts his head up, and as you catch his gaze it isnât what you expected. After hearing countless tales of the past you anticipated seeing someone who radiated evil. But sitting before you is a God weakened by his past, not someone who revels in it.
âWeâll be outside like Cap said.â Tony mutters to you as he glares to Loki who merely smiles back.
âBye, Tony.â You wave to him as the door is closed, leaving you and Loki in a moment of silence whilst you compose yourself.
âYouâre not afraid,â Loki speaks up, now standing as he paces around the cylindrical container, a reinforced version of the previous one. âitâs awfully stupid of you.â He adds, and you canât help but laugh quietly.
âWhy should I be afraid?â You dare to ask as you lean against the railings, heavily relying on them as you make eye contact with Loki. âYouâre just a God.â
âOh my dear,â Loki laughs, shaking his head. âyou have no idea who youâre talking to, clearly. Youâre a mere mortal, why do you all think you can trick me into telling you anything?â
Sighing to yourself, you push your weight from the railings and step forward. âPerhaps because Iâm not a âmere mortalâ?â You suggest, now catching Lokiâs attention. âI grew up with Godâs, some, like you and others well,â You trail off. âwe donât talk about those ones.â
âWhat are you saying? Youâre a God?â He coldly asks, but you shake your head in response.
âOh, Gods no.â You admit. âIâm an Angel.â You state.
âNo, youâre not.â Loki bluntly comments, looking you up and down before turning away from you. âAngels donât exist, theyâre a fairytale to keep children calm and believe in an afterlife.â He scoffs.
Itâs your turn to scoff as you pause, waiting for him to look back at you. âSome say your kind are fairytales, Loki. Doesnât mean that you arenât real.â You explain, nearing the glass. âWhy are you adamant that I canât be an angel?â
Turning on his heels, Loki smirks as he approaches the glass, hovering before it and towers over you. âI would know if angels existed. Now, if you donât mind I was in the middle of thinking about the thirty different ways I can escape here without the need for a mortal to interrupt me.â Loki states.
âFair enough.â You shrug your shoulders as you cross your arms over your chest. âHowever, Loki?â You call out. âThere are thirty-seven ways out of here, just so you know.â You chuckle, stepping back and return to the railing, trying to hide the pain in your laugh as it ripples through your spine.
Lokiâs lips part to respond, but his eyes focus on your hand clutching your side. âYouâre injured, arenât you?â He asks, watching as you nod. âIn the tales of Angels arenât you supposed to heal within minutes of being injured? The whole âimmortalâ aspect of being an Angel.â Loki paces around the cell once more, but his eyes never leave you.
âItâs a bit more complex than that.â You tell him through gritted teeth. âWhen an Angel falls from above or rises from below, our powers are still within us, but they arenât as effective since weâre in the mortal world.â Your breathing slows down now, and you canât help but slip down to the ground.
âHow did you fall?â Loki kneels behind the glass, focusing on you closely. Yet, your breathing becomes slower, and the curiosity Loki has for you increases. âTell me!â He yells, slamming his fist to the ground.
âI was sent to guard over a human, something we all do at some point.â You begin to explain, picturing the young boys face as he sat with a bloody nose in the middle of the park as children walked away, leaving him to suffer. âHe, well, despite my efforts of guarding him, he didnât make it.â Tears fill your eyes as you remember the day you fell, the consequences of your actions or lack thereof. âHow about you, Loki?â You quickly change the topic of conversation. âWhy did you come back to Earth?â
âYou think Iâm going to simply tell you because you told me a story?â Loki remarks.
âStranger things have happened in all my years.â You tell him, shifting as you try to rise back to your feet. âAnd trust me, Iâve had plenty of them.â You joke as you stand back up, firmly gripping onto the railing behind you.
âNonsense,â Loki mutters. âyouâre a mortal, no older than Thorâs beloved Jane.â
You shake your head. âIâve lived for nearly three hundred years.â You tell him. âItâs all in the eyes, Loki. But you only ever see the fear in them, whereas I see hope.â
âYouâre here to envoke hope? That I might somehow change with the help of an âangel?ââ
âLike I said, Loki.â Your voice quietens as you try to ignore the growing pain searing through your body. âStranger things have happened.â
âWell, I am truly sorry.â Loki chuckles. âBut this has been fun, a great story youâve construed together Iâll admit.â He laughs softly. âAs if a mortal of such a young age could try and tempt me.â
âI wasnât here to tempt you, Loki.â You state clearly, despite your vision beginning to blur. âAs I said, I was here to try and help you. As thatâs what I do, itâs what I know.â Your voice softens as words struggle to leave your lips coherently.
âNice try, mortal. But youâll never get me to crack.â Loki spits to you, and thatâs when you fall to the ground.
Immediately, the doors open and Steve rushes in.
âWhat did you do to her?!â Steve yells to Loki as you lie unconscious.
âHow could I do anything when Iâm stuck in here?â Loki holds his hands up in defence.
Steve glares to the God as he tries to pull you into his embrace. âTony?â Steve calls out, and Tony walks in with Thor behind him, causing Loki to sigh heavily.
With the help of Thor, Steve is able to get you to your feet, but as you stand up your wings appear.
âCareful!â Steve warns the others. âY/n told me her cloaking doesnât work if sheâs unconscious.â
âCome on then,â Tony mutters as he helps Steve carry you out, minding your large bright wings.
Yet, standing in disbelief, Loki canât help but rethink his entire conversation with you. He watches as your wings drap across the floor, feathers catching on the metal and he winces as some are left behind.
âAngels are real?â Loki thinks aloud.
âWhat did you do to her, dear brother?â Thor asks, defeated as he hovers by the glass. âY/n is nothing but a kind spirit, a real angel, Loki. Couldnât you see that?â
Lowering his head, Loki remains silent.
Without another word being said, Thor exits the vault, leaving Loki alone as the door is sealed shut once more.
Staring down at the stray feathers you left behind, Loki buries his head in his hands. âIâm sorry.â He mutters under his breath, wishing he couldâve believed you whilst you were here and seen the hope in your eyes, and the fear looking back at them.

All That Glitters Is Not Gold (part 7)
Summary: Y/n gets hired to be the avengers chief physician and also happens to be an ex assassin.
Word count: 3.2k
Warnings: Needles, swear words, reader getting angry.
A/N: Okay yâall so maybe the reader has slight anger issues.
đđȘđč đźđŠ đ¶đ± đźđș đ„đąđłđđȘđŻđš.
_
Y/n suddenly became aware of the very persistent beeping noise in her ear. No matter what she tried she couldn't get it to stop and it was starting to annoy the hell out of her. She cracked her eyes open, the light-flooded her blinding her for a few seconds but her eyes quickly adjusted.
The first thing she noticed was the white plain walls of the Med-Bay. The memories flickered through her head like a flashing light. Y/n looked down to her bandage arm she peeled it back a bit, by looking at her wound she guessed she might have been out a little over a day and a half.
She grabbed the cords attached to her body and yanked them out causing the heart monitor to start flatlining. Wanda shot right up out of a dead sleep at the sound, looking over to make sure her friend was okay. Y/n didn't even know she was there until she spoke up "Oh good you're alive."
Y/n grimaced "Very much so. How long have I been out?"
"A little over a day," Wanda said confirming what she thought. "After FRIDAY alerted us, Barnes got there first to see you all bruised and bloody."
Y/n could tell Wanda was trying to keep the conversation light which she appreciated. She rolled her eyes and chuckled "You should see the other guy."
"Oh trust me I did." Wanda grinned. "I should probably go get bruce though so I'll be right back."
Wanda left her room. Bruce came in and checked her vitals and drew some blood just to make sure there wasn't anything toxic left in her blood. He said that they couldn't use the cradle because it could harm her further so there would be a scar. But Y/n didn't mind much a little bit of meditation and it would be long gone.
Wanda gave Y/n her phone but had to go because Vision needed some help. Y/n was checking some emails and she heard a little sniffle. She looked up to see a red-eyed Peter peaking into her room. She set down her phone and motioned him over. "Hey, Peter what's wrong?"
Peter seemed a little unsure of himself hesitating to speak. He once again sniffles wiping his face with his shirt. In a little voice, he mumbled, "I was scared you were going to die."
Y/n's heart broke into a million little pieces. She didn't know what to say to him. She wanted to comfort him but she didn't know-how. Y/n did the only thing she knew how. Made a joke out of it. "Oh, Pete you know some half-ass assassin can't get the best of me."
Peter chuckled also while hiccuping. He looked down then back at her. He rushed toward Y/n wrapping his arms around her. Y/n slowly wrapped her arm around him the stayed like that for a few seconds. She rubbed his back and patted it. "Can't breathe. Super strength." She choked out.
Peter pulled back standing next to her bed and rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly "I forgot sorry."
"Don't worry about it. And hey get some sleep I'm the one in the Med-bay and you look worst than me."
Peter promised he would. He gave her a get-well card that he bought with his aunt May. He turned to leave. Bucky was standing in the doorway. Peter told him he could go in and left.
Bucky walked into the room. Y/n's face lit up when she noticed him standing there. "Well look who it is. My savior."
Bucky gave a small chuckle. He looked her over. He can't get the image of her lying limp in his arms out of his head. He doesn't think he's ever been that scared or panicked in his life. It became blurry to him after she passed out. He vaguely remembers carrying her the few feet to the med bay and Bruce ordering someone to get him out. Funny how someone can change your life within a few months of knowing them.
"How are you doing." He breathed out turning serious. He sat in the chair next to her bed setting her clothes on the tabled next to them. He couldn't explain it he felt like it was her fault she was in here. Even if he hasn't done it personally.
"Good, I'm good. How's Alpine? I know she has separation anxiety."
"Well, last night she somehow got into my room again. And right now I think she's with Wanda. I'm pretty sure she sneaks her extra treats."
Y/n and Bucky continued to talk. She genuinely enjoyed his company. There was a feeling that she didn't want to name that started to open up whenever he came around. They decided to watch a movie. Y/n was sitting crisscross applesauce and Bucky had his feet kicked up onto her bed while laying back in the chair.
"You actually liked this movie," Bucky exclaimed. Y/n got to pick the movie and she picked newsies. She thought it was the right thing to choose considering it's about young boys in New York. Though it was a little before his time it was basic Bucky and Steve.
"Yes, it was my favorite movie of my teen years. Believe it or not, I thought their New Yorker accents were really hot."
Bucky laughed. He couldn't believe what he was hearing "No way. They are so bad. They aren't even accurate."
"Hey don't judge. I can't help what my teenage hormones find attractive." She jokingly kicked his feet and he put his arms up defensively.
"I'm not, I'm not. It's just that I don't see you like that type of girl. Back in my day, they use to associate accents with thugs or gangs."
"It's the 21st-century hun. Times are different." She put her non-injured hand on her hip.
Bucky raised his eyebrows and smirked "So I'm seeing."
The buzzing of Y/n phone interrupted their conversation. The caller ID read Anthony Y/n put up a finger to signal to give her a moment. She clicked the accept button and a nervous sounding Tony picked up "Hey Y/n how are you? I heard what happened."
Y/n? He never uses her real. That only means one thing. He did something that could potentially piss her off. She was out for one day and this is what happens. "What did you do Tony."
"Okay look so don't be mad when I tell you. Meet me in the debriefing room in 10." He hung up before she got the chance to object.
Y/n slide to the edge of the bed. She swung her feet over. She attempted to stand up but when she put pressure on her foot she nearly collapsed. Y/n didn't remember hitting her foot or anything but it must have been when she dove over her desk. Bucky put his hands on her waist to steady her. "Woah you okay there doll?"
"Yeah. Can you like?" She made a turning motion with her hand. Bucky immediately stood up and turned around.
Y/n took off her hospital gown. Buck caught a glance of 2 long scars crossing her stomach and what looked like to be a burn on her hip through the reflection of the window. He quickly turned away out of respect. Y/n slide on her pants and cleared her throat. "I'm done."
Bucky turns around and sees her supporting most of her weight on her right foot. "Do you want me to get you crutches or a wheelchair?"
"Why would I do that when I have a perfectly good super soldier right here?"
She hobbled over to Bucky and wrapped her good arm around his waist. He rolled his eyes at her being difficult but put his arm around her. He wouldn't admit it but he secretly liked it and thought it was sweet.
They got down to the debriefing room. Tony was pacing around the front muttering something to himself. Y/n and Bucky took up the last two seats. Y/n's foot was throbbing so she put it on the table to elevate it. They waited a couple of minutes for him to start. Natasha finally decided to speak up getting annoyed "You want to tell us what this was about before you burn a hole in the carpet."
Tony stopped to look at them and started to pace again "Okay so I didn't tell you guys everything. That meeting I had was with the UN. They are trying to get General Ross to be ahead of the Avengers instead of Nick Fury."
He paused to let them take it in. Some were confused, and a couple were mad. "Wait are they just trying to do this since we didn't sign the Sakovia accords?" Steve said what most were thinking.
"See that's what I said but they were talking about some bullshit about us being unorganized and dangerous. And the only way they'd stop it is if someone took a truth serum and I said Y/n would."
Oh, this is why he told her not to get mad. She had to take a deep breath so she wouldn't pull off her shoe and beat him with it. Is he stupid? He's a genius but he can't think before he speaks. "So how does it work?" Clint asked.
"Well, they will hook you up to a lie detector machine and inject you with the truth serum. The way it works is that every time you lie the serum will start to burn and your heart rate will start to accelerate."
"So what all do I have to lie about." Y/n finally questioned. She was chewing her lip in contemplation. She's pulled off worst than this and has had more on the line than this.
"What I know for sure is that I said you've been with us for 2 years, you can't tell them how you got that cut and anything that can potentially get us into trouble. Also, you can't take any strong pain meds."
"So basically she has to have one hell of a poker face," Bucky concluded.
Y/n sighs and rubs her head."How long do I have."
"12 hours until wheels up." Tony better buy me so many boxes of pizza she thinks.
_
Bucky watched as Y/n sat on the floor crisscross applesauce. Her back is the door and the only light in the room is the light from the hallway in the quinjet. Y/n could hear the soft buzz of Bucky's metal arm with her eyes still close she says "You know you can come in Sarge."
That startles Bucky. He walked into the room and sat on the floor taking up space next to her. He looked at her "I came to tell you we are almost there. Are you nervous?"
Y/n thought for a few seconds. Most people in her position would probably be pissing their pants at this moment. Having to go in front of the United Nations and lie straight to their faces. So she answered truthfully "No, no I'm not."
Bucky was surprised. She was genuine in her answer. If it was him he would be having a near stroke. "Really? Anyway so why do meditate it doesn't actually help with anything."
"Actually it does. It helps with my heart rate and it helps me heal faster."
"Oh?" He looked at her expectingly obviously not believing her.
She kicked out her leg and lifted the pant leg to her suit. The bruise was gone and she rotated her foot and wiggle her toes to prove she wasn't in any pain.
Y/n grabbed his shoulder as a crutch to help her get up and grabbed her heels. Bucky looked up at her. "You know I can't seem to figure you out."
Y/n paused and pursed her lips in thought "Somethings are better off left as mysteries." She patted his shoulder and walked out.
_
Wanda, Natasha, and Y/n broke off from the rest of the Avengers, having to go to the medical room so she could get a mini medical exam.
The girls walk through security. Natasha dropped all of her weapons in a bin so she could pick them up later. They put a device around Wanda's neck so she couldn't use her powers. Y/n could see how uncomfortable it made her. She walked over to Wanda and whispered "I feel bad you have to wear that. You didn't have to come."
Wanda looked at her and have a small sad smile "What you're about to do is worst than this. It's the least I can do for you helping us."
Y/n nodded to her. Security officers escorted them to the medical room. They had Y/n sit on a bed. They made her pee in a cup, took her blood, and checked her medical history. Natasha was giving her advice. While she knew most things it was still nice having someone coach her through and remind her of it.
When they finished Wanda went to join the rest of the Avengers. Natasha walked her to the door she adjusted Y/n's suit "You've got this. We'll be supporting you in the crowd."
"Thank you Nat for everything really." She hugged her and Natasha gave Y/n's arm a reassuring squeeze.
Y/n took a deep breath. She stepped into the room. The room was a half-circle shape with large windows behind it. In the back were journalists and reporters. And in the front were the UN personnel were located. Y/n walked past the Avengers and took her seat in the middle of the room.
Y/n could feel everyone's eyes on her. She got blinded momentarily from the flashes of the cameras. She looked over to the Avengers. Tony, Bruce, Clint, and Steve at the end. Bucky in the middle. And Sam, Natasha, Wanda, and Vision on the other end. Wanda gave her 2 thumbs up and Y/n smiled back at her.
Staff came over and started to unpack and hook her up to the lie detector machine. They took off the jacket to her suit and connected wires to three fingers on her right hand. They put a blood pressure cuff on her left tricep and inflated it. Ross stood up and cleared his throat being the room's attention on him.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I'm General Ross and I will be doing the questioning on the behalf of the UN."
He turned his gaze to Y/n. "We're going to test the lie detector first." Â Y/n nodded to him and he began.
"Is your legal name Y/n Y/l/n?"
"Yes." Y/n states.
"True." The man in the chair next to her says.
He looked down at the paper he had in his hand looking for his next question. "Very well. Were you born Y/B/D 1995?"
"Yes."
"True."
"Are you nervous?"
Natasha's words come back to Y/n. Lie once. Lie about something small. So they don't get suspicious. Y/n let her heart rate pick up a bit and purposely avoided eye contact. "No."
"Lie."
"It's okay to be nervous. God knows I would." Ross joked a few people chuckled and Y/n had to physically hold back an eye roll. He thinks he got her but in reality, he's right where she wanted.
He nodded to the staff and they walked over to her and began to prep her. They cleaned a small area of her arm with an alcohol pad. "This might hurt a bit." One muttered.
They stuck the needle into her arm and injected the serum. At first, it felt cool but then it hit her all at once it felt like someone poured a pan of grease on her. Y/n's skin was on fire, she bit her cheek so hard it nearly drew blood.
Bucky watched as Y/n closed her eyes and took a deep breath. If it was anything like the Super Soldier serum he knew it burn. She opened her eyes and if he didn't witness it he wouldn't even know it happened seconds ago.
General Ross walked back to the front and began to speak "We are ready to proceed. Did it hurt? I've never tried it."
"Yes." Like a bitch.
"What role do you play for the Avengers? Tony mentioned you've been there for 2 years."
"I'm their Chief Physician." The second part of his sentence was a statement so she missed lying by an inch.
"True."
He asked questions like that for a while or worded them differently. The questions were getting repetitive and Y/n was getting bored and impatient. She hasn't had to lie yet not that she wanted to. Especially not when she has the truth serum from hell injected in her veins.
"Have the Avengers ever put you in any unnecessary danger?" Ross questioned.
"Never." She replied trying not to bounce her leg.
"True."
"Tell me Miss Y/l/n how did you get that cut? It looks pretty deep." He paused seemingly watching for her reaction.
"My cat. She has some pretty mean claws." Y/n stated without missing a beat. She felt the burn of the serum. It wasn't as bad as the injection but damn did it fucking hurt. Despite that Y/n kept a straight face starting to get annoyed with him. She could hear the flutter of the cameras.
"True."
"Would you consider Miss Maximoff unstable in any way, shape, or form?"
Y/n has to stop her eyes from going wide. What the hell kind of question was that besides rude. It's like he wants her to lash out at him. "No."
The man watches the monitor for a few seconds "True." He finally says.
"Would you consider Mr. Barnes dangerous?"
The audacity of this man. You want to see someone dangerous? Let's see how dangerous I am when I choke you out with this cord that's wrapped around my finger- "No"
"True."
"Are you aware of his past?"
"Very much so. And that where it should stay the past. I don't know what you're trying to get at general."
"True."
"Were you aware that we are starting a search for Lilith and anyone with information on her that doesn't come forward will be sent to the raft? And were you aware that if we find her we are ordered to kill on sight?"
Y/n gets a bitter taste in her mouth. This cannot be happening. She can't freak out right now. She clenched her jaw "No I was not aware of either."
"True."
"Very well that's all." Ross returned to his seat among the UN.
The staff came over and unhooked her from the machine. Y/n felt like she could finally breathe. She stood up and walked out without glancing back. The Avengers did the same meanwhile getting swarmed with paparazzi.

Chap. 3.
The tension that appeared the moment you received the phone call from Baekhyun did not dissolve with time. In fact, the opposite happened â it grew as the time passed, and as Saturday came closer and closer. Finally, once your Friday to Saturday night shift came to an end and you stumbled into your flat around 4 in the morning, you knew that you wouldnât be able to fall asleep easily. Yet, you forced a whole cup of green tea into yourself in an attempt to soothe your nerves before sleep. Your alarm was set for noon, and you were supposed to meet at 3 PM.
You woke up feeling energized, but you knew this pattern all too well already â the tiredness would come and hit you with its whole power the day after, and youâd spend Sunday sluggish and drained. But that was okay, because Sunday didnât matter half as much as Saturday did.
You felt a small urge to dress up; even more, actually, you felt a need to pay attention to details rather than looking fine at the first glance. Some common sense hyped up by years of watching other people and reading stories â a thorough shower, shaving, paying attention to not only what you wore outside, but also your undergarments. You lacked things that could be considered âsexyâ, but â letâs face it â you didnât think it mattered much; not after what youâd found out so far. Yet, it would be a shame if your panties had a hole in them. Wearing something neutral, but fresh was your best bet. Every few minutes, you kept reminding yourself â you donât even know what will happen, you donât even know if anything will happen at all. There was no reason to think that heâll want you to undress in the first place, you said it yourself that youâre not ready for sex.
But then, it still helped you gather confidence that you definitely needed at a moment like that. Details allowed one less thing to worry about, and a better ability to focus on others, and so, you made sure the details were worked out well, and that you didnât overdress, either; a beige shirt and jeans, all wrapped up with sneakers and another knitted cardigan of yours â neutral and polite, maybe a bit school-ish, but these were the things you mostly wore on daily basis, and you felt that going in the other direction â of tight pants, mini-skirts and see-through shirts â would not be appreciated. Your hair was pulled up into a loose bun, nothing like the ones you admired in YT tutorials, but the best you could do on your own. Maybe it was the age difference that made you feel obliged to show respect rather than expose yourself. You trusted your instinct on that, and so far, nothing happened yet to prove it wrong. The weather was starting to get warmer; these days were particularly sunny and dry, so you felt at ease without an extra jacket. It couldnât get that bad in the evening, and you put faith in your cardigan.
Baekhyun must have thought similarly.
You stood in the barâs entry, looking up at him for a moment; he leaned back into his usual couch, not aware of your presence just yet. He was wearing a black button-up and jeans as well, something he still looked pretty well put-together in, but not too formal â similar to your own thought process, noticeably.
You inhaled deeply, and took your time to exhale the air â until you felt ready to walk up to him.
âHi thereâ he spoke as you approached his couch; as expected, he was there alone today.
âHi thereâ you replied with a slight nod and a smile; your voice was quiet, as quiet as it could be without trembling in anticipation.
âYou want to drink something before we go?â
You considered it for a second, and then nodded again. Baekhyun moved a bit to the side, encouraging you to join him on the couch, and you took the offer with gratitude.
âBeer? I donât want to get you drunk, but we may sit here for a bit just to relax.â
âYou can tell I need it?â
âYes. I can tell. Your shoulders are very tense. May I?â
His hand reached to your shoulder and you nodded slightly, a bit unsure what you agreed to just yet.
He suddenly squeezed your muscle, and you whimpered. He kneaded it, and you found the tension dissolving gradually as he went on. Even with only one hand and unfavorable position, he managed to find some of the spots that required touch; that touch was welcome, slight pain coming along with it was desired for the best outcome. You didnât notice when Baekhyun must have given the bartender some sort of a sign, but the man soon came with a beer and water that he put on the nearby table. That was when Baekhyunâs movement slowly ceased, cautiously letting go of your shoulders. You felt as if you were in a different body, the tension in your body almost gone, just as the one in your mind â the moments of physical interaction were enough to chase some of your worries away.
âYou donât drink?â You reached towards the table â it was closer to you than to him â and took the two glasses, handing him the water and keeping the beer for yourself.
âNot before,â he explained curtly, which you accepted without further questioning.
âSo⊠what are we gonna do?â you asked carefully, sipping the beer through a metal straw, trying to give off a casual vibe despite focusing deeply on what you were about to hear.
âDepends. On how much will you allow me to do.â Baekhyun focused his gaze on something in the crowd; you felt as though it was his habit to avoid a direct gaze in an attempt to sound collected. âI had the idea of showing you some things. Just so you feel it out a little. Itâs not final, but it may help the both of us figure out how we feel about it. Like a free trial, you see my point?â You nodded, but didnât say anything, so after a moment he continued. âI wonât introduce you to everything, and it wonât last as long as usual sessions, either. Iâll talk to you a bit beforehand so we figure out some basic things. It shouldnât make you uncomfortable. I wonât be trying anything beyond your comfort zone.â
âSo, no deals aâla Fifty shades?â you felt silly the moment these words left your mouth. Baekhyun laughed awkwardly.
âNo, it wonât be necessary. If you want to draw a comparison to that, I definitely wonât be dumping the whole scheme on you when you donât even know what itâs like.â
And you wonât fuck me first thing in the plot, you added in your thoughts.
âThere are a few things that I may ask you here, so that we have those out of the way,â he spoke; his tone lowered a little. âI need you to tell me if you have any illnesses or old injures that could influence your physical capacity.â
You thought for a bit; the answer was important, but you couldnât recall much.
âI donât think thereâs anything important.â
âIs there anything unimportant?â His gaze pierced through you as he caught on your wording.
âUh⊠Iâm taking pills for my thyroid, but itâs nothing very dramaticâ you explained. âNothing else that I know of.â
Baekhyun nodded slowly.
âFair. Next question, is there anything youâre particularly scared of? Phobias, or things youâre scared of in general, anything overly triggering that you want to avoid at all costs?â You already revealed some of these during your first conversation. But now you felt more at ease, and you thought you could be more detailed without sounding overwhelming.
âIâm⊠scared of fire. And hate my hair being pulled. I donât know, why. I canât explain it. Itâs justâŠâ
âItâs alright. You donât need to explain yourself to meâ Baekhyun looked at you with his eyebrows slightly furrowed. âYou sound like it would stress you out to share. You donât need to be afraid of that. You donât owe me anything, keep that in mind. Itâs not supposed to feel like an obligation.â
âI-I know.â
âIâm scared of heights, by the way.â You stared at him in confusion. âHm? Just thought itâs fair to share if you did.â
âOh.â
âChill out.â He nudged your glass with his hand to urge you to drink some more of the beer you managed to forget about by then. It was halfway through â you didnât want to leave the glass with some of it still inside, although it managed to make you feel just a bit sick already.
His own drink was at around the same level too, and as you finished yours, he drank the remaining water in one go as well.
You werenât the best at handling alcohol, and even the small amounts made you a bit weak in the knees. But you felt sober enough as the two of you finally got up; Baekhyun paid for your drinks and you left the bar.
The weather was nice, as expected. Going out into the sunlight again startled you, somehow; you felt as though a lot of time had already passed. But no, it was still the same afternoon.
It was true that Baekhyun lived nearby. His apartment was in a different direction than your place, though, and you estimated it would take around twenty minutes to get from one place to the other. You knew this area, although not too well â there were only some tenement houses, but no stores or academic buildings that could gain your attention or regular presence. It was on the more expensive side, although not a place a well off office worker wouldnât afford; just maybe not suitable for a student. The tenement houses were old, but well-kept, and you knew that the apartments were way bigger than in a place like yours.
Opening the door for you, Baekhyun invited you into the dark hallway of his apartment. There were no lights, as every wall had doors to other rooms: two to the left, one at the end of the corridor, and two more to the right, perfectly symmetric.
âKitchen, my office, bathroom, my bedroom, and the living room,â the man told you, starting from the left. One glance into the living room on the right made you realize just how big the rooms were; enormous, in your honest opinion, with the area of something around a classroom at school, but with ceilings that reached far up, almost twice higher than in your own place. Heavy curtains hung from the top of the tall windows like limp branches of a willow tree, giving the most dramatic effect, and â likely â gathering tons of dust throughout their lifetime. Wooden, carved furniture added to the effect, and you, in all your sincerity, would not dare to ask how much such a set cost, although it would be a lie to say that you werenât curious. Wooden panels on the floor were already worn and grey, giving you a thought that the interiors were kept in this particular shape for long years before Baekhyun began to reside in there.
âThatâs huge,â you only uttered. Your eyes rested on a painting in the middle of a wall on the left side of the room, above an eclectic-green, velvet couch, in front of which was a wooden coffee table, and which gave a perfect sight into an old TV on the side of the room, as it was one of the old-styled, small models that would be hard to look at from the distance between one wall and the other. The painting looked old, but you wondered from the distance, whether it was not just printed in good quality, with all the details of lights, people and nature making it look like a piece of national heritage rather than a small private property. It portrayed a battle scene coming to an end, warriors in shining armor stained with blood resting upon trees and a small pond of pinkish water, at either sunset or sunrise â you werenât sure.
âYou like it?â He caught your stare and followed it, giving himself a few seconds to adore the painting as well, as though he hadnât looked at it enough despite living here.
âItâs too violent,â you decided after a moment. âBut itâs nice to look at.â
âItâs not that violent in itself, I think. But it does conjure the thought of it.â
He left the living room with you still in the doorframe, staying to look at the painting just for a few more seconds. When you turned around, he was entering the kitchen â this room also looked old, but less well kept; it was cleaned up perfectly, however the furniture was shabby, with the surfaces often partly rubbed off and grey; this room simply screamed for renovation. But you felt way more at ease with the fact that it looked similar to yours â the one that was over twenty years old when you moved with and you had no way of changing it without getting in trouble with the landlord. And not like youâd want to do it at all, since youâd move out right after your studies anyway. The only difference was that you tried to make your apartment look a bit warmer with colorful lights and other cheap ornaments here and there, while Baekhyunâs kitchen was just left as it was, as though he gave up on it the moment he moved in.
âHungry?â
âNot much.â You were still full of the freshly consumed beer.
Out of the fridge, Baekhyun took a bag of half-eaten potato chips. You stared at him with your eyebrow raised as he ate a few of these, and then extended the bag towards you, to which you only shook your head and he put the bag back in the fridge. He caught your look.
âFood moths,â he explained. You slowly nodded in understanding. Thatâd be a useful tip if you ever got those. The summer was slowly coming; soon, your small apartment would also be filled with bugs, and fruit flies, mosquitos, and sciarids because you kept a few plants in (discovering that sciarids and fruit flies were not the same thing was an important step in achieving perfect harmony in your adulthood).
You sat awkwardly by the table, observing him as he reached for the bag he must have left on the counter before he went to pick you up, and took out leftovers â probably from work â putting them back in the fridge.
âYou worked today?â you asked.
âYeah, just an average thing, a strategic meeting with co-workers. My working hours are not regular, so I didnât really know I was gonna be out today.â
Once he was done, he sat by the table as well, and you leaned a bit forward, resting your chin on top of your hand.
âYou could have postponed it with me, you must be tired,â you said.
âDonât worry, Iâd rather have a chance to relax with you.â
That didnât sound as innocent as he probably tried to make it, and he looked over his shoulder to make sure he didnât scare you with the choice of words. You only laughed awkwardly.
âAnyway. Since, as I said, I donât want to intimidate you, I think weâll stay in the living room since you seemed content with that,â he spoke casually.
âSo, no playroom?â you uttered. Baekhyun choked on the chip in his mouth.
âI donât own such a place. I just usually use the bedroom. Or the bathroom,â he explained.
âOr the office?â you felt bold enough to suggest, giving him a small smirk.
âNo, I assure you the office is for what offices usually are.â
You smiled innocently as Baekhyun stared at you, probably trying to mask sudden shyness.
âEither way,â he cleared his throat. âI told you some about what I want to do, but you havenât told me if thereâs anything youâre interested in trying out. I assume you did see some things, so⊠Is there anything that youâve been particularly interested in?â
The harmless way in which he phrased the question absolutely didnât change the fact that he was, basically, asking what kind of porn you watch.
âI uh⊠I like watching different things, just out of curiosity, but Iâm not really sure if thereâs anything I like particularly more than other things⊠I suppose bondage is the biggest basic.â You tried, you really tried to sound neutral, but your voice trembled a little. âBut Iâm not really sure, to be honest. Iâm quite open-minded, I supposeâŠâ You felt silly; how could you not be able to answer the most basic question â what do you like? But Baekhyun seemed to understand that very well, as he only nodded slowly.
âWhat about, letâs say, pet play?â You blushed slightly. âYou know what Iâm talking about? I feel like a lot of young women start from there.â It took you a moment to realize that you, too, were a young woman. âBehavioral training. Humiliation. Regression. A bit of pain, if suitable. Trying out a few things to see how you respond. What do you think?â
âI think it may be funâ you said slowly. âDoes it have something to do with theâŠ?â you motioned your neck, hoping heâll get the cue. You remembered the collars the other people wore â they were the main reason you got interested in the first place, after all. Baekhyun smiled, catching on your observation.
âSometimes, but not necessarily. Itâs just a thing I like. Do you?â
ââŠI may,â you answered carefully.
âGotcha. We may try it out. You know, everyone is different. The collars are different too. I usually order them after Iâm sure the personâs gonna stay, and when I know what type will be the most suitable for them. I canât do that for you yet, but I have some spare items.â
âDo you have the ones of people who youâre not with anymore?â you asked, out of pure curiosity.
Baekhyun was silent for a moment.
âI do. But Iâd rather not use them. Theyâre there for memory, not for use.â
âGotcha. I was just curious,â you quickly explained.
âDo you have a safe-word?â Baekhyunâs gaze rested on you.
ââŠNot really. Never needed one,â you uttered sheepishly.
âYou have anything on your mind?â
âUm, the⊠thing with lights? The red light, yellow and green?â you proposed carefully.
âThatâs a good one. Tell me how you understand them.â
âSo, the green one means everythingâs alright, the yellow is when we need to slow down, and the red stops the scene,â you recited, as if you were reading from a book.
âThatâs right. Itâs easy to remember, so we can go with that.â You bit on your lips to prevent yourself from getting too excited with the apparent praise; it wasnât anything big, of course â but you felt as though it was a praise in itself, being acknowledged for saying something right. âAnother thing is that I need you to know a few rules, before we start.â You were all ears. âFirst, I donât want you to be reluctant for the fun of it. Whether you want to be a brat later or not, today weâre just trying things out and I donât want to mistake your attitude with actual discomfort, do you understand?â You nodded slowly, memorizing the words and waiting for him to continue. âSecond. No pain that I will impose on you will be a matter of punishment, unless I specify so. If you donât enjoy it, you need to tell me so. It doesnât mean Iâll stop right away, unless â of course â you use the safe-word. However, I still expect honesty. During, as well as after the scene, when we review it. Do you understand?â The breaks in between the points gave you enough time to acknowledge the information and encode it in your memory. You nodded once again. âAnd for the last. Do you trust me?â
The tone made you look up at him, finally focusing on his person rather than the words alone.
âI do,â you finally decided; knowing very well what this answer would lead to.
Baekhyunâs eyes sparkled as he smiled at you warmly.
âWell then, shall we start?â
* * *
You stand in the middle of the room, the cardigan and shoes are off, your feet feel cold against the floor despite socks wrapped around them comfortingly.
Donât move a finger, youâve been told, and so, you stare at the painting before you, the warrior in the front staring at you back with contempt you havenât noticed before.
Your breath trembles in anticipation as you try to hear sounds from other rooms â you do hear some shuffling, but nothing that you can figure out for sure. He must be in his bedroom, you think. What is he preparing? Which tools out of many that youâve seen on the screen of your phone all these nights that, despite spending perfect eight hours in bed, did not end in getting perfect eight hours of sleep?
Your arm itches, but you fight the urge to scratch it; be obedient, he said.
Steps echo in the corridor and you hold your breath. Your head snaps to the side the moment you hear him enter the room again.
âEyes down,â he commands without sparing you a glance; you havenât had enough time to see what he brought, but you instantly obey his words. âDonât look at me unless I allow you to.â His voice is stern, and it makes your stomach clench nervously. But itâs not a bad sensation, not at all â you grow excited. âDown. On your knees.â
You try to comply, but he still scoffs at your apparent sluggishness. You almost fall over as you let your knees bend and you finally kneel down as well as you can, eyes facing down as well, although you feel awkward as you do so.
âOn your toes,â Baekhyun commands; something small but hard hits your heels, startling you, and your head whips around to see a wooden pointing stick. You swallow the gasp of surprise at the sight.
You fix your posture, your toes instantly begin to cramp; thatâs uncomfortable, and your toes arenât too flexible, it seems.
âStraighten your back. Youâre slouching.â
The task turns out almost impossible to do, the whole weight lands on your toes and you frown in discomfort.
âIs it necessaryâŠ?â
âLook at me.â It feels unnatural to do so now, but you oblige, turning your head to the side where he stands. âWhatâs wrong?â
âMy toes hurt,â you admit quietly. Baekhyun watches you for a moment.
âStraighten them. Kneel as you did before.â You bite your lips and nod, uttering a small thank you that you find suitable enough as the position gets a bit more comfortable. âBack. Straighten.â
You automatically snap back into the position. But it does feel a bit silly â like something your teachers would say, donât slouch! A laughter comes out at the comparison, but you attempt to stifle it.
Apparently, not well enough.
The pointer hits the nape of your neck; not too hard, but the message gets through.
Baekhyun stands in front of you and, most likely, stares you down â you canât tell; your gaze is fixated on his lacquered shoes. The shoes then move, kicking the middle of your thighs.
âSpread.â
You feel a bit awkward as you oblige this command; you only glance down to make sure your pants arenât ripped â you never know. To your relief, theyâre not. Then you try to glance forward â but, whatâs in front of you, makes you more shy than anything, so you just fix your gaze on his knees instead.
âYouâre slouching again.â
âPets often do,â you note before you manage to bite your tongue; you do remember your conversation from before â wasnât it what he was aiming for? You thought so at first. But the words were not thought through at all; you just felt a need to say something, anything, just like youâd talk back to a teacher when they became too annoying in their remarks.
You hold your breath as Baekhyun crouches down to your level.
You feel his eyes on you, and you unwittingly tremble under his gaze, forcing yourself to look even lower, not daring to break the rule. The seconds seem to last hours as he doesnât speak a word â and he doesnât have to. You feel intimidated.
âYou want to be a pet?â
He stands up; heâs right in front of you, if you so much as leaned forward a little bit, your forehead would touch his thigh. You slightly crave the touch; but not enough to move, not when you grow petrified. The question is rhetorical. You wait for him to finish the thought.
âThen Iâll treat you like one.â
Without waiting for your reaction, he steps behind you. You hear shuffling in what had to be a box placed behind your back; you see nothing.
But you hear the harsh, recognizable clink of metal and your stomach drops.

Please, reblog if you enjoyed, it'll help me a bunch!
Author's note: Hello, have you missed me??? I'm sorry it took so long to upload, it's hard to find time among exams I had in June, and now my (first) new job!
