— “Is there anything I can say to make this less awkward?”
remus lupin x reader —★— word count 1.7k
summary: you attend your neighbour, sirius’ christmas party, where remus saves you from a bully before kissing you under the mistletoe :)
cw: fluff, mean bully cormac mclaggen, protective remus <333, reader gets panicky, sirius is a protective + matchmaker friend haha
Your eyes dart around the living room nervously, drink sloshing around the cup in your hand. The music from the speakers is booming, blaring disco lights making it hard to see much. You can’t seem to spot any familiar faces.
Sirius, your next-door neighbour and friend, was throwing a huge Christmas party. All his old friends were there too. You were familiar with them, having seen them quite a bit whenever they went over. And they seemed nice for the most part, if a bit raucous. You think you’d probably feel better around them than stranded in this buzzing, foreign crowd.
You continue taking cautious steps forward, eyes trained on the ground as you push your way through bodies of people dancing and snogging and puking and – fuck.
You don’t even realise that you’ve spilled your drink all over someone until he, not very nicely, alerts you to it.
“Hey!”
It doesn’t occur that he’s calling out to you. Your hearing is all but closed off to the noise of the party.
“Hey – you!” All of a sudden there’s a hand wrapped around your wrist, and you freeze, quickly whipping around to find the source. It feels like your flight or fight mode has been activated, and you’re squirming away before you can even spot his face in the sea of people.
Breaths are loud, deafening in your ears. They might be yours, or maybe they’re those of the crowd starting to gather round. You’re not quite sure.
Your eyes land on him. The buff blonde in front of you, grip tightening around your wrist as he pulls you closer. There’s words coming out of his mouth. Spit landing on your nose. But you can’t seem to make out a thing he’s saying, phrases like stupid girl and bitch slipping through your consciousness and adding fuel to the fire of panic in your throat.
You open your mouth to apologise, though you’re not quite sure what you’ve done. Nothing comes out but a pathetic croak.
The scary man’s voice gets louder and louder. You’ve never quite seen rage in human form, but here he was. Here he was. And he was going to be the death of you, you’re sure of it.
“Hey, man.”
Another voice, getting closer. It’s softer. Gentler. You feel an arm around your waist, and the touch is kind enough to not make you want to pull away.
“Let go of her, please. It was an honest mistake.”
“But this bitch –”
“I said,” you can hear the hint of hardness in the nice man’s voice, “Let go.” Somehow, you know it’s not directed at you. His grip on your waist tightens the slightest bit, but careful not to hurt.
There’s a beat of silence before the harsh hand leaves your wrist. The relief is immediate, the familiar feeling of a come down after a painful high. Your skin doesn’t feel so foreign to you anymore.
“Thank you,” the kind man says from beside you, though he doesn’t sound very grateful. “I’m sure Sirius could spare you one of his shirts, if you’d like.” Once again, there’s no actual apology in his tone.
Without waiting for a reply, you feel yourself being gently steered away. You look around as you walk, spotting expressions of shock and humour and all sorts of funny feelings.
You twist your head to take a look at your saviour, feeling like your heart might stop beating all over again.
Remus Lupin. You liked him more than you knew him.
You’ve seen him a few times at Sirius’ place, spoken to him even fewer. Yet nothing but sweetness came to mind at the thought of him; all softness and pretty scars and kind smiles. You think maybe the word gentleman was made for him. Even Sirius seemed to be lovelier in Remus’ presence, which was saying a lot, because you thought your neighbour really was quite lovely already.
You’d never seen Remus so riled up before. Honestly, you didn’t think he was capable of it. There was a silly little feeling in your tummy, to know that he had gotten so worked up to protect you.
“Sweetheart,” his voice brings you back to the present. And he’s back to normal, back to the soft, calm man you so adored.
“Hi.”
“Hi,” he smiles bemusedly, though his brows are bent with concern. You realise he’s brought you to the kitchen, where there’s fewer people and more air to breathe. The feeling of his thumbs gently rubbing your wrists is almost too much to bear. “You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m –” you try not to shudder as the thought of the angry man comes back to you, “fine. I’m fine.”
Remus gives your hands a squeeze. “Okay. You’re okay now, yeah? I’m sorry about Cormac. He was a dick in high school too,” he sighs. “Once a dick, always a dick.”
You let out a giggle. “Really?”
He grins, a proper one. “Yeah, really. One time, James — you know James, right? The bespectacled one with the curly hair —” he continues when you nod, “— yeah, so James walked right up to Cormac and —“
“Hey,” Remus is interrupted by Sirius, breathless as he shoves past people, into the kitchen. His brows are pinched together as he pulls you into a half hug. “Hey, babe. Are you good? I heard what happened just now with McLaggen, the asshole.”
“I’m okay, really,” you squeak out as Sirius pulls you even closer. “Sirius —“
You feel your cheeks heating up when you hear Remus chuckling. Sirius lets you go from the hug now, but his grip on your shoulders is vice-like as he looks you over like a concerned mother hen. “Are you sure you’re okay? He didn’t touch you, did he?”
“Well, he did, but —“
“He touched you?” Sirius sounds close to appalled. Remus is snickering now, and you feel like digging yourself a hole and crawling into it. “The bastard! I’m gonna —“
“Sirius!” you hiss, cutting him off. “I’m all good, I swear. Remus got me out of it.”
Sirius flicks his gaze over to Remus. In a split second, you know what’s coming when you see the twinkle in his eyes.
“Sirius. Don’t you dare.”
He flashes you a quick grin before turning to his friend, wiggling his eyebrows. “So, loverboy here saved you, huh?”
Remus quirks an eyebrow at you questioningly. You turn to Sirius with a pleading look; you knew he knew all about your little crush. But of course, he wouldn’t stop there.
“Did he swoop you into his arms? Catch you as you fell?”
“No…“ you mumble shyly, shoulders up to your ears.
“Well,” Sirius smirks, “He can now!”
The only warning you get is a wink, before Sirius’ hand is on your shoulder and he gives you a push.
You let out a yelp as you tumble backwards, straight into Remus.
Embarrassment washes over you as his strong arms immediately come around your waist, swiftly pressing onto your stomach as he steadies you. “Woah, woah, easy there. Are you okay?”
You blink. “I… um… I…”
The feeling of his hands on you is distracting, too much to take. It’s like your legs have turned to jelly, tongue to rubber. Words turn to dust on the tip of it.
Maybe this is how you perish, you think. You’d die of shyness in Remus’ arms; perhaps it wouldn’t be such a bad way to go.
A loud gasp startles you out of your reverie. Both you and Remus turn to find Sirius staring at you with his hands on his cheeks, eyes dramatically wide and mouth agape.
“Oh. My. God,” he gushes, stepping towards you. “What do we have here?”
You shoot him a glare, hoping it conveys both your desperation and annoyance. Sirius seems, or rather pretends, to understand nothing.
“Would you look at that?” he continues with a grin, chucking his head upwards. You look up to feel your heart drop.
There’s a quiet snort from Remus at the sight. Green leaves, red ribbon adorning it. Mistletoe.
“Mistletoe!” Sirius exclaims, as if it weren’t painfully obvious.
You cringe, immediately hanging your head to stare at your hands. You pull your bottom lip between your teeth and hope the red on your cheeks isn’t as obvious as you think it is.
Sirius is annoyingly loud as he continues to yap, but your heartbeat is louder.
Remus clears his throat. You blink, whipping your head upwards to find him looking at you with an apologetic smile. He rubs the nape of his neck bashfully. “Is there anything I can say to make this less awkward?”
A soft huff of laughter escapes you despite yourself. “No, I… I don’t think so.”
He grins. You feel your resolve melting into a puddle. “Kiss me.”
Remus blinks, eyes widening for a split second before his lips quirk upwards. “What?”
“Kiss me,” you breathe, hoping you don’t sound as anxious as you feel. “I mean, not because I want you to or anything —“ you laugh nervously, “— but because it’s mistletoe, and — oh.”
Remus’ lips are on yours in a moment. The squeak you let out dissolves into his mouth, hand gently cupping the back of your head.
You feel his soft hands on your waist and his sweet lips on yours and you feel like you’re falling all over again.
This is what that muggle singer Sirius loved — Elvis Presley — must’ve been feeling, you think, when he wrote Can’t Help Falling in Love. He must’ve been kissing the epitome of love itself, because you seemed to be falling into Remus, melting into his touch. If you were a fool for rushing in, then so be it. You’d be anything to taste his lips again.
Remus lets go all too soon, though you’d probably feel the same way if he let go after a lifetime. He gives you that sweet, sweet smile again, and you can’t help but smile back.
“You know, we don’t always have to be under the mistletoe to kiss.”
“We don’t?”
“No,” Remus grins, “like right now.”
He tugs on your waist, stumbling until your back hits the wall. He kisses you again, and you’re suddenly very grateful for Sirius. You’d have to thank him for three things this Christmas — introducing you to Remus, inviting you to this party, and most importantly — for that song reference.

Thank you! 💕💕
YOU'RE MY COMFORT!
Tumblr media
·˚ ༘ ꒱ summary when they comfort their s/o who's on her period
·˚ ༘ ꒱ characters isagi yoichi , bachira meguru , itoshi rin , nagi seishiro , mikage reo , chigiri hyoma , hiori yo , shidou ryusei , itoshi sae , michael kaiser , alexis ness
·˚ ༘ ꒱ warning fem!reader implied , lowercase intended
·˚ ༘ ꒱ a/n eeeek i took a kinda long hiatus after exams so sorry this was late- TT
Tumblr media
·˚ ༘ ꒱ isagi yoichi
isagi would be so sweettttt. like he’s 100% the type to google how to make your girlfriend feel better on her period and then go overboard. he shows up at your door with snacks, a hot water bottle, and a look of absolute determination.
“babe, i got chocolate, tea, and this random teddy bear i found. will that help??”
he also tries to distract you with soccer highlights and ends up ranting about strategy while you just cuddle into him. lwk adorable.
"yoichi, i don’t need all this, i’m fine—"
"nope. it’s my job to make sure you’re 100% okay!"
"…you’re too much."
"too much in love with you? absolutely."
·˚ ༘ ꒱ bachira meguru
bachira treats your period like it’s an adventure. he calls it “battle week” and declares himself your knight in shining armor. he’s running around like a maniac, making you laugh so hard you forget the pain.
he also makes you random art to cheer you up. one time, he drew a stick figure comic of you fighting a “period dragon” with a sword made of chocolate. you almost cried laughing.
"meguru, what is this??"
"you slaying your period. literally."
"you’re so dumb… but i love it."
"mission accomplished!!!!! >:D "
·˚ ༘ ꒱ itoshi rin
rin is… awkward. but he triessss. when you first tell him, he just blinks and goes, "okay. what do you need?" and when you say “nothing,” he goes into silent problem-solving mode.
he might not say much, but he’ll keep you company, bring you your favorite drinks, and make sure you’re comfortable. he’s like a walking checklist. it’s so sweet how seriously he takes it.
"rin, you don’t have to—"
"you said you have a headache, so i’m staying until it stops."
"you’re so stubborn-"
"you’re welcome."
·˚ ༘ ꒱ nagi seishiro
nagi is… so chill. you tell him you’re on your period, and he’s like, "oh. okay. do you wanna nap?" because in his mind, that fixes everything.
but the second you actually need something? he’s ( surprisingly ) up and moving faster than you thought possible. he’ll even let you steal his hoodie and hog all the blankets.
"sei, can you pass me the—"
"already got it. now come back to bed."
"why are you so good at this???"
"because i'm used to this by now."
·˚ ༘ ꒱ mikage reo
reo treats it like a high-stakes situation. he buys you EVERYTHING—snacks, heating pads, your favorite drinks, and even a blanket that looks like a giant burrito.
“what else do you need? should i call a doctor? a masseuse? build you a pillow fort?”
he’s over the top ( *cough* more than usual *cough* ), but it’s so sweet you can’t even be mad.
"reo, you don’t need to do all this—"
"yes, i do. you’re in pain, and i don’t like it."
"you’re insane."
"insanely in love with you, yep."
·˚ ༘ ꒱ chigiri hyoma
chigiri is so calm and collected about it. he’s like, “i got this.” he makes you tea, rubs your back, and lets you vent about how annoying it all is.
he also takes you on peaceful walks or sits with you by the window, brushing your hair and talking about random things to keep your mind off the cramps. it’s giving romance movie vibes.
"hyoma, you’re like… weirdly good at this."
"i have a sister. i’ve trained for this moment."
"oh my god, of course you have."
·˚ ༘ ꒱ hiori yo
hiori is the gentlest bean. he’s like, “do you need anything? want me to get you soup? should we watch your favorite movie?” he’s so soft and accommodating, it’s almost ridiculous.
he also writes you little notes to cheer you up, like: “you’re stronger than cramps 💪 i believe in you!!”
"hiori, this note is so cheesy—"
"but did it make you smile?"
"…yeah, it did."
"then it worked. :D "
·˚ ༘ ꒱ shidou ryusei
shidou is chaotic as ever, but surprisingly… thoughtful? he shows up with junk food, a heating pad, and an attitude like, “let’s beat this period’s ass together.”
he’s also the type to jokingly pick a fight with your u t e r u s ( you read that right ), yelling things like: “how dare you hurt my girl?! square up, you coward!” it’s dumb, but it works.
"ryu, stop yelling at my uterus—"
"not until it apologizes."
"you’re so stupid."
"but you’re laughing, so i win."
·˚ ༘ ꒱ itoshi sae
sae is quietly attentive. he doesn’t say much, but he notices everything—like the way you hold your stomach or wince when you move. suddenly, you’ve got a hot water bottle and your favorite drink in your hand, no explanation needed.
he’ll sit with you in comfortable silence, scrolling on his phone until you’re ready to talk. it’s subtle, but you feel so cared for.
"sae, you didn’t have to get all this—"
"you’re in pain. of course i did."
"…thanks."
"don’t mention it."
·˚ ༘ ꒱ michael kaiser
kaiser is so dramatic about it. the second you tell him, he’s like, “mein gott, my poor love! what can i do?!” he acts like you're about to be taken from him.
but honestly? he’s surprisingly good at making you laugh and keeping your spirits up. he’ll even let you boss him around for the day.
"michael, stop being so dramatic—"
"i can’t help it! your pain is my pain!"
"you’re ridiculous."
"and you love me for it."
·˚ ༘ ꒱ alexis ness
ness is the sweetest little bean. he immediately offers to make you tea and snuggle on the couch with your favorite blanket. he’s like a human heater—so warm and comforting.
he also sends you texts like, “you’re doing amazing, sweetheart 💖 cramps don’t stand a chance against you!” pure angel.
"ness, you’re being so extra—"
"only because you deserve it!"
"you’re such a dork."
"your dork 🥰."

hiii! hope you’re doing good and I’d like to give in a suggestion, could you make a fic about gnreader being choppers mother figure and both zoro and reader are fighting for the parental role 😭😭
(they later on share it lol)
Tumblr media
⛥゚・。 endgame
synopsis: prequel to inn -- when chopper asks about your past, zoro reminisces on your history together... and is reminded of exactly what you are to him.
cw: THIS IS A PREQUEL TO INN, fluffly fluff, comfort, takes place pre-timeskip during alabasta, young reader is so cute, protective zoro, ZORO IS WHIPPED, i really loved writing this.
a/n: i really, really loved writing this
Tumblr media
"Hey, Zoro!" Luffy called, eagerly. "Look over here! Look at what we're doing!"
"We're training!" Usopp added, clapping his hands together.
Begrudgingly, Zoro looked up from Chopper's fur, glancing toward the boys, who were standing under a huge stream of water like it was a ninja's waterfall.
"Real funny," he nodded, sarcastically, before returning to what he was doing.
After saving the kingdom of Alabasta, the king invited the crew to the royal bath, hoping to clean up after dinner.
The young doctor had asked for help washing his back, and the swordsman played it off as having nothing better to do.
But, in actuality... he enjoyed helping boy, feeling a sort of fatherly obligation toward him.
"Zoro?" Chopper piped up, quietly, eyes trained forward as the man went back to carefully scrubbing his fur.
"Yeah?" Zoro hummed. "What is it?"
"Do you know why (y/n) acts the way she does?"
Confused, Zoro raised a brow, unsure of what he was talking about.
"What do you mean?"
"Well... you know," the boy slightly stammered. "She's so nice... and kind... she cares for me so well even though I just joined the crew."
He looked down at himself, making sure to choose his words carefully.
"Even Doctorine didn't warm up to me this quick... but she treats me like she's known me all her life. And I figured since you two grew up together, you could tell me why."
'So, that's it...'
Zoro nodded, finally getting the picture.
"I see what you mean," he confirmed, moving on to the boy's shoulder. "(y/n)'s always been like that... even when we were kids. There's no rhyme or reason to it."
He glanced up, the memories rolling back like calm waves after a storm.
"She just... is."
"I thought I told you to stop following me! Cut it out!" a ten year-old Zoro exclaimed, glaring at you sharply.
"But... you're bleeding..." a nine year-old you reminded, worried, as you tightly clutched the handle of your first aid kit. "Kuina beat you up really bad this time."
"Shut up!" he barked. "I don't need your help! Or anyone else's! I'm gonna get stronger all on my own!"
You flinched at his tone, but held strong, despite the tears welling in your eyes.
"Well, you can't be the strongest if you can barely lift your arms!"
Zoro's eyes widened, surprised.
In your months of chasing him, attempting to patch him up, you had never raised your voice.
Not even once.
"I believe in you! And I wanna help you! So let's make a deal!"
Brows furrowed with determination, you pointed at him, firm in your disposition.
"Every night, I'll patch you up, and help you out with normal stuff, like food and clothes! And in return, you work your hardest to become the strong enough to beat Kuina! Sound fair?"
"No!" he scoffed, incredulously, and incredibly confused. "Why are you doing this?! You don't even know me! What do you get out of that?!"
"I get to watch you!" you grinned, jumping at the chance to gush. "You're so cool! And tough! I'm no good at sword-fighting, but you're amazing at it! I can tell you're gonna be a really great swordsman someday!"
Happily, you looked up at him, your starry eyes bringing a faint tinge of pink to the boy's cheeks.
"And I wanna be there to watch the whole thing!"
For a moment, Zoro paused to think, weighing his options before caving with a sigh, unable to say no to your hopeful smile.
"...Fine."
"YAY!"
Without hesitation, you pulled him into an embrace, overwhelmed with joy.
"Hey! Hey! Hey! No hugging!"
Zoro chuckled, moving the scrub brush to the young doctor's head.
You were the strangest, most persistent girl he had ever met... but the only one that believed in him from the very beginning.
Even if it was at your expense.
"What were you thinking?!" a twelve year-old Zoro scolded, haphazardly applying band-aids to all your cuts and bruises. "You know Haru and Kenzo are stronger than you. Why'd you try to fight them?"
An eleven year-old you sniffled, using the back of your hand to wipe away the stray tears rolling down your cheeks.
"They were making fun of you," you mumbled, looking down at your lap. "They said three-sword style was stupid, so I tried to punch them... but I missed and they ganged up on me."
"Did they, now?" Zoro glared, turning to the two boys next to him.
Quickly, he struck them both in the back of the head, giving them two giant welts and adding to their multitude of injuries.
"What do you two say to her?!"
"We'wre sowwy..."
Chopper lit up, relieved to her you had no ulterior motive in your kindness.
"(y/n)'s been this nice all her life? Wow! I wish I met her sooner! She sounds like a really great friend!"
Zoro nodded, fighting off the small smile threatening to rise to his lips.
"I was lucky to meet her when I did... her enthusiasm always gave me something to look forward to."
He sighed, dreamily reminiscing on the thought.
"Even when the future was unclear..."
"I can't believe it! We're actually leaving!" an eighteen year-old you squealed, watching the island of Shimotsuki get smaller and smaller as you clung to the mast of your small fishing boat. "This is so exciting!"
"I know," a nineteen year-old Zoro agreed, watching with an air of pride. "Feels like a new chapter. One step closer to becoming the strongest."
You nodded along, until you were suddenly hit with a thought, which forced you to sit down.
"But... I can't help but wonder," you started, glancing up at him. "Why'd you bring me along?"
He raised a brow, confused, and silently asking you to elaborate.
"You know I'm not very strong. Hell, I can barely throw a punch," you reminded. "I won't be much of a help..."
"All those years ago... didn't you say you wanted to watch me become the Greatest Swordsman in the world?" Zoro asked, rhetorically. "You can't do that cooped up in a dojo."
Your eyes widened slightly, not expecting such a straight-forward answer.
"I promised you I'd work hard to become the strongest. So you better believe you're getting a front row seat," he smirked, plopping himself down next to you, slightly rocking the boat. "You're stuck with me, (y/n). There's no backin' out now."
You replied with a chuckle, carefully resting your head on his shoulder, blissfully unaware of the flush on his cheeks.
"Thanks, Zo'."
He nodded, slowly and warily looping an arm around your shoulder, letting out a sigh of relief when you didn't move away.
"Don't mention it."
"Wow! I'm so happy!" Chopper cheered, jumping up from his seat. "I'm gonna go dry off and give her a big hug to say thank you for all the stuff she's done!"
Quickly, he turned to Zoro, his blinding smile warming the swordsman's heart—though he'd never admit it.
"Thanks for telling me Zoro!"
Without a word, Zoro nodded, and Chopper zoomed off back to the rooms, leaving the man alone with his thoughts.
Glancing at the divider separating the men and women's bath, Zoro listened closely, tuning out Luffy and Usopp's roughhousing to see if he could hear you.
And he did.
From beyond the great wall flowed in your silvery laugh, the delightful sound hitting his ears like the world's greatest song.
Closing his eyes, the swordsman rested his arm on his knee, and his cheek in his palm, allowing himself to fully experience its beauty.
God, he was so in love with you...
Words couldn't even begin to express.
You were the most consistent thing in his life.
His personal nurse.
His number one supporter.
His best friend.
His childhood crush.
If he was being honest, he didn't know where would've ended up if it weren't for you, or the person he would've turned out to be.
You taught him the value of kindness and compassion at such a young age, and were never afraid to wear your heart on your cheek if it meant pushing him closer to his dream.
And you knew him so well.
He couldn't have found a better partner in crime if he'd searched for a thousand years.
Muscles relaxing, a small smile rose to his lips as your laugh floated into the air once again, accentuated by the occasional, adorable snort.
There was no one else in this world for him.
There would be no one else in this world for him.
You were absolutely, positively, without a doubt... his endgame.

Blue Lock x Reader Headcanons
Tumblr media
Itoshi Sae x Reader Headcanons + Scenario
Tumblr media
Sae acts all cool like he doesn’t care about cute couple stuff, but then you catch him saving a picture of the two of you as his lock screen. When you call him out, he’s like, “It’s a good photo, don’t overthink it.”
Sae gives off “don’t touch me” vibes, but he secretly loves it when you run your fingers through his hair. He’ll act annoyed but lean into your hand anyway.
He’s not the flowers-and-candles type, but every once in a while, he’ll say something like, “I don’t know how I’d focus without you around.” And then he wonders why you’re blushing so hard.
Sae’s texts are always dry, like, “k” or “see u.” But he sends you random pictures of sunsets or food with no context because he knows you like them.
He’ll wrap an arm around your waist if someone stares at you too long, but when you tease him about being jealous, he deadpans, “I don’t get jealous. I’m just better than them.”
He’ll drag you to his matches and casually point out, “That goal was for you,” like it’s no big deal. But if you miss it because you were distracted, he’ll sulk for hours.
Instead of saying you look pretty, Sae will blurt out something like, “That outfit’s decent.” When you laugh, he tries (and fails) to defend himself: “What? I meant good decent, not bad decent.”
If he’s exhausted after a match, Sae turns into a clingy blanket. He’ll flop onto you and refuse to move, mumbling, “Stay. You’re warm.”
Sae doesn’t say “I love you” often, but he’ll refill your water bottle, put an extra jacket in your bag when it’s cold, or show up unannounced just because he missed you.
Sometimes he says things so casually, like, “You make everything less annoying,” and then gets confused when you’re melting inside.
"wake up, you're late for your classes," the pink-haired pest nudged your sleeping figure awake. you groggily rubbed your eyes, trying to process his words.
"wait, what?!"
"it's fine, i can drop you off on my way to training," he added casually.
you grabbed your phone and checked the time, letting out a relieved sigh. "sae, my classes don’t start for another three hours," you yawned, flopping back onto your pillow.
he frowned, gently flicking your forehead. "the earlier, the better," he said, tugging at your arm to pull you upright. "come on, if you’re quick, we can grab breakfast beforehand."
you groaned, defeated by his persistence. "if you wanted to spend more time with me, you could’ve just said so."
"nuh-uh," he muttered, avoiding your smirk.
you snickered and rolled your eyes. "alright, my favorite mosquito. i’ll be downstairs in a bit." grabbing a towel, you added with a teasing point, "oh, and you’re so repaying me for my lost sleep later."
he watched you leave the room feeling proud of himself.
"i don’t act like a mosquito..."

Just Hold Me
Twice Sana x Male reader
6K Words
Content Warning: smut, fluff, really sappy, mentions of depression and abuse, kinda unrealistic elements
Minors DNI
Tumblr media
A/N: I came up with the plot for this one with a friend of mine who I met on here not too long ago. Super cool guy who enjoys my fluffier fics so I didn't mind writing this one.
Please enjoy this really... really fluffy fic. More to come!!!
-
That's what Sana does, and it's why you know that she's the love of your life.
-
It's the sound of the rain hitting the glass, the endless thudding against your bedroom window that has your attention. You stare at it silently, waiting for her to join you in bed as you lay there cold and almost lifeless. There wasn't anything profound about the harsh rainfall outside, you just needed something—anything—to focus on besides your thoughts.
The rooms dark and everything just feels so heavy. It always gets like this when you're alone. You've gotten better at distracting yourself but on nights like these when there's not one single thing that feels right, it gets so hard.
So you find yourself thinking again, your eyes so empty and lost without any purpose. You were in one of your depressive episodes which came around every few months. You've been able to hide it from her for a while now. You kept a smile on your face, you were never not there for her and you found yourself only letting out your true emotions in the shower or any time you had by yourself.
(Usually in the car right after work)
Being all emotional with Sana is something you never want to do. She's too perfect, too precious, and way too pure to have to deal with the absolute train wreck that you are. Something tells you that you need to be the perfect man for her, be strong, be stoic, be a protector. It's in the back of your mind and it's so loud and persistent that you actually believe it.
You can't be there for her if you're crying in her arms about your problems
So when you see her beautiful face come through your bedroom door, you suck in every bit of sorrow and somehow manage to force a slight smile. She shuts the door behind her and climbs into bed right where she belongs, wrapped in your arms. You get the covers over you and then there comes the warmth that you've been longing for.
Even with her here, your mind is still going and your thoughts begin to swarm. You're too stuck in your head that you don't even notice the lack of words she spoke or the eerie and unusual silence that continues while she's in bed. You only hold her tighter and for the first time tonight you hear her soft voice and it immediately brings you back to reality.
"Y/n"
You only hum in response, staring into the dark room because the position you were in didn't allow you to face each other. You were both laying on your sides, your arms wrapped around her and your chest pressed flush against her back.
Sana brings her hand up and holds yours that rested on her belly "What's going on with you?"
The tone she uses nearly breaks you. It's how concerned she sounds, how genuinely worried she is about you. "What are you talking about?" You really try to make it seem like you have no idea what she means because you know that she shouldn't have to deal with this.
"You've been coming home from work late, you barely eat, and I feel like I haven't seen you smile in weeks"
Your heart sinks as you realize that you may not have been masking it well like you thought you'd been. Not at all.
You force a chuckle "I'm smiling right now"
She turns over to face you, the side of her face sinking into the soft pillow as she looks into your eyes with serious worry. She doesn't even crack a smile at your joke. "Stop it, I mean a genuine smile. Something's not right... I can see it in your eyes"
"It's really nothing, I promise. Works just been a little stressful"
"Is that all?"
"I promise, princess" You reach over to move her hair out of her face, then you caress her cheek.
Sana sees the way you nod and how you're looking into her eyes as you speak. She almost believes it but she still has a feeling that there's something you're not telling her. If only you knew how frightened she is about this sudden change in you. She's watched it happen in real time and it brings this uncomfortable twisting feeling in her stomach. One that comes anytime she thinks about it.
But she reluctantly nods after staring into your eyes for a moment "Okay" Is all she says before initiating a change in position. Sana nudges you to lay on your back then snuggles herself into your side, draping her leg just over your lower abdomen. Her arm comes next, landing on your chest. Then she kisses your cheek "I hope you know that I'll always be here for you if you ever need to talk, I love you" She mumbles into your skin.
"I love you too"
Those were the last words spoken before the silence came back and stayed for good. Sana holds you tight like she thinks you might go somewhere and then she falls asleep, leaving you to think about her words. The look in her eyes is now engrained in your mind. They were almost desperate, looking to you for any answer that could give her some knowledge or anything that she can use to help you. It couldn't be more obvious that you need it.
It's killing her and you haven't noticed until now.
-
You couldn't sleep much at all and by the morning, you found yourself solemnly sitting on the edge of your bed deep in your thoughts once again. It was getting bad. So bad that you didn't even notice when Sana woke up. The moment her eyes flutter open she almost immediately feels it in the atmosphere—the darkness accompanied by the rain knocking against the window.
She looks over to the digital clock on the nightstand.
Five AM
"Babe?" Sana mumbles through a stifled yawn, sitting up in the dim room. It's still kind of dark out but she can see you clearly. She rubs the sleep out of her eyes and gives in to a short yawn as she waits for you to hum like you always do, or turn around, or do something to at least acknowledge her presence.
She sits up and scoots over "Please talk to me, you're scaring me" She says it in such a cute and wholesome way with her voice as sweet as honey. She's navigated her way next to you, her feet hanging off the bed as she tugs on the hem of her shirt nervously.
It's only then when you're actually snapped out of every bad thought you were having. You look over into her wide eyes and you open your mouth to say something, to lie and tell her to go back to bed. But you can't because there's a lump in your throat so big you're unable to convey any words so instead you swallow and turn your head away.
"Please"
In one last effort to get you to say something, Sana pushes her hand through the space between your arm and your torso, then she holds your hand and interlocks your fingers. She squeezes her hand and you squeeze back to let her know that you're there. You look over to her one last time and she's silently pleading with her teary eyes. "Sana, I..." You pause and swallow again when your voice wavers.
She perks up "It's okay, take your time baby" She comforts you.
"I never told you but... I've been through a lot in the past and I'm fucked up because of it"
Sana gives you a look. It's pity and it's so prominent that you can't even bring yourself to look her in the eye. She's silent for a moment and you start to worry if it's all too much for her to handle. She shouldn't have to deal with someone who's got tons of baggage. "Why did you feel the need to hide it from me?" She asks as a tear rolls down her cheek. That's not the only one though, following it comes multiple, leaving streaks of clear dripping down her face.
"It's a long story and it doesn't matter now. All I'd be doing is wasting your time if you let me sit here and bitch about my problems all day long. You don't deserve that"
You turn your head away from Sana when you feel a tear threaten to fall and you blink it away as quickly as you can. "I will sit here for days and listen to your story if I have to! I'm your girlfriend, I deserve to hear it" She persists but you only keep your head turned away.
"It's irrelevant"
A heavy, punishing silence follows your statement and you feel Sana let go of your hand and pull it away. You assume that she's going to let it go like you've told her to but instead she puts her palm flat on your back. There's this feeling of relief you get from it and when she begins to rub softly in circles, you feel comfortable again.
Then you look over to Sana because suddenly she's stopped the comforting motions and her eyes have seemed to go empty and there's this look of devastating shock on her face.
The thing is, she's seeing it all. All of your past experiences, the abuse, the negligence, the bullying, everything. Her breaths turn rapid as she sees it so vivid and clear. Graphic images of the torturous violence you've faced when you couldn't have been more than ten years old and then the nasty words they've said that's engrained so deep into your brain.
"Worthless" "Useless" "disgusting" "Kill yourself"
She hears it loudly echoing in her head then she gasps and a new rush of tears falls from her eyes.
You don't know what's happening but it's fucking terrifying and you try your best to snap her out of this trance-like state. "Sana" You call her name and grab her by the shoulders. Then you shake her a bit and with a blink she seems to be back "Are you okay? What happened?" You ask, your heart racing wildly.
Sana comes back, then she looks into your eyes again. But this time there isn't any pity. It's more-so understanding. Something about her gaze feels like she sees you, like she gets it and you didn't even have to say a word. "Oh" She almost sobs, then she whispers "My baby boy" and she wraps her arms around you.
Your heart melts completely and you finally break.
You cry into her shoulder, your tears staining her top but she could care less about it, she only holds you closer and tighter. She runs her fingers through your hair "My sweet prince" She starts, then she has to breath for a moment "You're perfect... you're enough... you're my everything."
"Sana" You shake your head, trying to reject it all, trying not to feel as much as you are right now.
"No" She pulls away from the hug, then makes a quick move to straddle your lap "I fucking love you... I need you" She holds your face in her hands so you have no choice but to look into her eyes. Those beautiful orbs that are so easy to get lost in. So much so that you don't even notice when she leans in to kiss you until your lips are already connected.
Your eyes shut and so do Sana's as you allow this newfound warmth to bind you. The kiss is so slow and sensual, you move your lips in unison with one another. You understand each other like that. If she parts her lips, you know your tongue should be in her mouth. That's exactly what you do. You lick into her mouth with a passion that tells her how much you love her—how much you need her. "I love you" You mumble into the kiss "I need you" then repeat what she said.
You can taste the salty mix of your tears, but neither of you care, you just continue to enjoy this kiss. It feels so good that you actually forget, you actually can't think of anything but Sana right now. That's all you've ever wanted to do. Your hands run up her top and you get a hold of the warm skin of her bare waist then you pull her closer to you.
Sana's hands leave your face, she grabs a hold of your shoulders and begins to push on them. You take the hint and lean backwards until you're laying flat on the bed with her on top of you. You shuffle around so your feet are also on the bed and she helps out with that. Then in no time, your lips are connected again and now you're back to devouring each other.
"Please... I need..." Sana mutters through the kiss but then she breaks it completely and puts her hands on your chest "I need you" You nod your head and watch as she pulls her top over her head. You need her just as bad right now in this vulnerable moment when you have so much love to give--she's all you need.
So you take your tank top off, almost missing the way her breasts fall free from her shirt. Sana leans over again and kisses you, there's more passion in it this time and you reach your hands over to feel her body. Her skin is always so soft and warm. Moments later you let your hands gravitate to her breasts and you begin to massage them slowly, almost like you're kneading dough but with a bit less rigor and a bit more care.
She moans softly into your mouth and then she pulls away. Sana looks into your eyes for a moment, then scoots herself back so she's sat on your thighs. She grabs the waistband of your pajama pants and begins to tug on them. You raise your hips and allow her to strip you of your pants along with your boxers.
Sana takes your cock into her hand and pumps you to life with her soft hand (There wasn't much work to do because you were already halfway there). You prop yourself up on your elbows so you can watch the moment she lowers her head and sticks her tongue out. She licks the tip softly with her hand still holding the base firmly and then she takes you into her mouth. The first feeling of her soft, saliva coated lips has a low and long groan forcing its way out of your throat.
Her eyes lock with yours and she begins to descend, her hot mouth taking as much of you as possible. Once her lips, come into contact with her fist she comes back up and starts bobbing her head while she strokes you. "Fuck.. Sana - that feels so... good" You sigh while her velvety tongue scrapes against the underside of your cock.
It's one of the best feelings ever, the best part being that Sana won't take her eyes off of you. Although she can't speak, her eyes tell you everything that you need to know. She's looking at you with so much love and care that it brings you some actual comfort, like you two are the only living beings in the entire universe right now. Anything that matters or has ever mattered is now irrelevant, not even your demons could get to you in this bubble.
That's what Sana does, and it's why you know that she's the love of your life.
You've known it for a while now but never has there ever been a moment like this thats made the fact so apparent. "I love you" There's a shudder in your voice when you say the words because she's doing everything right. Both her mouth and her hand are working together to please you and it only feels better the sloppier everything gets.
In a moment, Sana withdraws her mouth with a popping sound following and she begins to jerk you off "I love you more" she smiles, then pokes out her tongue to let it rest against your tip so she can lap up the pre-cum leaking endlessly. "You ready for me?" There's a cute smirk that accompanies the simple question.
"Yes please" You nod and then you watch as she takes off her shorts and panties. Now her completely bare body is exposed to you and everything about it is pure perfection. "You're perfect" You sigh as she climbs on top of you.
Sana only giggles "Not as perfect as you my sweet prince." Her smile makes your pupils dilate nearly ten times as big as they already were. You didn't agree with her, but you let her have this one because there's no use in ruining this beautiful moment with something as morose as self deprecation. It doesn't at all change the fact that her words make you so feel warm inside that it might just be enough to make the thick ice in your cold heart thaw.
She leans over, laying her soft body on yours and she kisses you softly. Your hands find her waist again—because they're supposed to be there—and you squeeze her supple flesh "I need you... so bad" You mumble the words desperately against her lips and Sana kisses you harder, reaching her hand down to find your cock.
It's throbbing in her hold, only for her and you feel her smile when she notices it. Sana lifts her hips and presses your tip into her entrance, wasting no time to lower herself nice and slow. Her tight cunt grips you firmly as she sinks down and you can't help but moan into her mouth as your nerves begin to register the heat.
"Fuck" Sana breaks the kiss, her face only millimeters away from yours when her thighs land on your lap. Her face twists up, her jaw clenches and her eyes shut as she tries to get used to the stretch of your thick cock. "Your cock is so fucking..." She grits, exhaling a hot breath against your cheek before raising her hips and slamming them back down.
She connects your lips again and then she begins to ride you, moving her hips up and down in this slowed and steadied rhythm. It has you bucking your hips to meet hers half-way because she feels so fucking good. Sana moans into your mouth freely and loudly, struggling more and more to continue the kiss as she fucks you.
Soon enough, her mouth is hanging open and it's you doing all the work, kissing, licking and sucking her plump lips.
There's something so perfect about being inside of Sana, especially when she's riding you. Her pussy wraps around you just right, like a tight warm hug (only it's sopping wet). With each movement she makes lighting each one of your nerves on fire to make sure that you feel the almost electric pleasure. It's how she moves her hips with such direction and purpose that has your toes curling and your heart pumping. Then it's the way her cunt clenches occasionally when you're completely buried inside.
Sana's an expert at this, she's mastered the art of riding you at this point in your relationship. She knows exactly what movements make you tick, how to moan your name, how to praise you--all to get you reeling with her name on your lips.
She knows you like the back of her hand.
She lifts herself a bit then plants her hands on your shoulders and she begins to roll her hips back and forth in a way that has your eyes threatening to roll back into your skull but you keep them on her. You have to see it. How perfect her tits look bouncing with the force of her motions, the pleasureful look on her face, the lust in her eyes and the sweat beading on her flushed body. Sana looks too perfect right now for you to miss anything.
"Sana, your pussy... feels so damn good" You moan, hands still holding on so tightly to her waist that you're leaving marks. "I fucking love you"
"You're so perfect, my love" A warm smile shows on her lips, she takes your hands and interlocks your fingers, pinning your arms to the bed. "I can't imagine... fuck" She moans involuntarily and she's getting close already "I couldn't imagine life without you" She admits through her warm haze.
"I'm not going anywhere, princess" You promise with so much conviction it's like God himself is speaking through you.
Because Sana fucking needs you just as much as you need her and you just can't let this depression eat you alive when you have her.
You won't.
Sana's the opposite of a liability. She only uplifts you, she makes you feel so good about yourself that you'd think you were on top of the world. She makes life worth all the bad and she's probably the best thing you have in this life. She's someone you can brag about without fail or embarrassment.
That is where you find some hope. Some actual hope in the sea of despair you've been floating lifelessly in.
"I-I'm close" Sana warns, snapping you out of your thoughts and it's definitely coming. You see all the signs. The way her hips stutter, how she's just bouncing her petite ass on your lap with her eyes shut and her bottom lip tucked between her teeth. There's also that pulsing inside of her wet heat that you just can't ignore.
She's right there
When she starts struggling to make her movements smooth, you take her waist back into your hands. Then Sana falls forwards, some of her brown hair getting in your face as you hold her in place tightly so she cant move. Before Sana can even complain about it you're using nothing but your core strength to piston your cock into her at a speed so ungodly it has her jaw dropping.
"Yeah - Yeah just like that, princess. Cum for me" Your voice shakes as you sing her praises because your body could give out at any moment if you keep fucking her like this. You begin to break a sweat, your cock burning up as you fuck her soaked cunt. The noise is filthy. Now that she's gone silent, you can hear it loud and clear. Every sticky squelch when your hips meet the backs of her thighs is so obscenely loud in your ears. "Come on, Sana" You nearly heave into her ear.
Then she begins to shudder and you know you have her when "Ah fuck baby I'm cumming. I'm fucking -" she cuts herself off with a vocal moan. Her slick wets your entire lap, spreading everywhere as her hips go wild in an attempt to ride out her high. You never stopped grinding into her either, all deep and slow inside so she'd feel every inch as she cums. "God" She sighs and then she stops moving and you follow suit.
Sana weakly brings her head up and connects your lips again. You kiss back, immediately pouring your entire heart into this kiss because she deserves it. She deserves everything. When she starts moving again you stop her with your hands "Baby" She whines, then your lips disconnect. She pouts at you "I want to make you cum" She tries moving again but you don't say anything.
You flip her over gently, then get yourself between her legs "I want us to cum together"
She looks into your eyes then lifts her hand to caress your cheek softly "Whatever you want my sweet prince" You nearly melt at the term of endearment because it makes you feel so connected to her. The genuine tone in her voice accompanied by the softness makes it even more intimate and the 'my' signifying that you're hers because you'll always be.
It's one of your favorites.
Sana notices how your eyes soften as you look into hers and you don't even break eye contact when you guide your tip towards her begging entrance. As you slide in, her eyebrows furrow, but she keeps looking at you with those big beautiful eyes. You lean over to put your lips on hers once more and that's when you begin to move.
You make sure Sana feels every single inch, the way you fuck her with such a slow, burning passion. It lights her heart on fire. "I can't - baby.. you're so deep" She's losing it at the angle because nothing compares to the way your cock rubs against her walls, just brushing past all of her tender spots.
The only thing you do is kiss her harder, your tongue exploring the warm confines of her mouth. Kissing Sana has always been one of your favorite intimate acts to do with her and if she'd let you, you'd have make out sessions that last hours upon hours on end.
Sana takes your lip in between her teeth as you pull away and then she lets go, her moans soft when you pick up the pace. You duck your head into her neck and you begin to kiss, lick and suck on the soft skin "Do whatever you want, I'm yours baby" Sana assures you, running her fingers through your hair as you begin to leave sweet marks on her.
You increase your speed a bit, not so much that it feels punishing but enough for her to know that she feels so good that you almost can't help yourself. "So wet and tight for me, princess" You growl against her skin and Sana begins to lose her breath.
"Yes - right there - fucking hell baby" Sana gasps, her arms wrapping tightly around your body. She stops herself from scratching even if she wants to and in the back of her mind she know's you would never mind it.
Either way she only hugs your body close to hers.
"Princess... I hope you're almost there cause... I" You almost whimper the words into her neck.
"Shh- I know baby, just go ahead" She rubs the back of your head in a way that feels so good that it's almost like magic. "Inside" and then a small gasp escapes her lips and before you know it, your cock is spasming inside of her and you're filling her tight cunt, painting those perfect velvety walls white. A choked groan escapes your lips and tears begin to brim your eyelids as the pleasure takes over your entire body. It has you nearly shaking, making the most expressive 'O' face you've made in maybe months.
"Fuck" You groan as you keep thrusting, fucking your load so deep it'll probably slip past her IUD. Then when everything else subsides, your cock almost goes numb as you try your hardest to get Sana there no matter what because she deserves it.
"Don't stop" Sana begs, and her voice sounds so desperate when she does because she's so close. All it took was for her to feel your cock spraying your warm cum inside of her to get her there.
When Sana's chest begins to rise you know you've got her "There you go baby, cum for me" You whisper and that's when a strangled—almost sob-like—moan leaves her mouth. You keep the pace to fuck her though it as she shudders through her orgasm.
You stop completely and you two just lay there in that position for a moment. Soon Sana begins rubbing the smooth skin on your back and you take a deep breath "I love you" you murmur.
"I love you" She begins and you give her a moment to gather her thoughts. You'd give her all the time in the world if you could. "I know I said it already but you can tell me anything. No matter what. I don't care how long it is or how fucked up it is, I want to hear your story. I need to"
"You won't look at me the same after" You mutter weakly, still not moving from where you are.
Sana stays silent for a moment "Yeah, maybe you're right" She starts off and it catches you off guard a bit but then she continues "When I look at you, I'll see someone strong. Stronger than who you were before because whatever you went through, it couldn't have been easy to endure. Most people would've already given up"
You finally decide to get off of her and you sit up on the bed. "How would you even know that?" The question might've seemed harsh but Sana knows you don't mean it like that. The reason you ask is because its scary. So scary that she's saying all the right things.
It's almost like she...
"Because I saw it!" Sana sits up as well, kind of regretting how her words come off "Well, glimpses of it" She corrects, then begins to think again and you allow it because you have no clue what to say at all "When I touched you, before we..." She shakes her head "I saw like... small pieces of everything. I saw the abuse, I heard the words.. I just... I couldn't believe it"
You only tilt your head because it's all you can really bring yourself to do. This revelation is nearly bone chilling and so inconceivable that you force yourself to believe that she's lying whether or not if it was out of character for her to joke or lie in a situation like this. "Sana that's not funny" You sort of scold her, but your voice isn't at all cold about it.
"I'm not joking" She insists.
Then, in your bedroom at maybe seven-ish in the morning, with the rain still hitting the window, Sana explains everything she saw in her visions in detail.
That's when you come to really believe that she isn't joking.
-
The warm water from the shower head cascades down your body smoothly and comfortably, nothing like the harsh rain outside. You wrap your arms around Sana and rest your chin on her shoulder "So if you already saw what I went through, why do I need to re-tell it to you?" are the first words spoken for the entire duration of your time in the shower.
It started off silent, the two of you cleaning each other and kissing as you enjoyed the hot water and each others presence. It was a well needed contrast from the endless talking you did in the bedroom just before. You can see the soft smile on Sana's face in the reflection of the glass door "Well, I didn't see everything" She turns around in your arms "and it'll be good for you to say it out loud, I mean I don't expect you to be better in a day. I get that it takes time but-"
Sana stops talking when you put your lips on hers, leaving a small peck on her lips. "Listen princess, you're not my therapist. I don't wanna dump that burden on you. You understand that it wouldn't be good for us, right?" It's true, treating your significant other like a therapist can lead to many bumps in a relationship. But maybe that's just another excuse as to why you've been hiding everything from Sana.
"Oh? Where'd you learn that?"
"The internet" You shrug
Sana puts her hand on your bare chest and looks into your eyes, with those loving eyes. "Well, I may not be a licensed therapist but it's important for me to know because I'm your girlfriend and I want you to be able to open up to me like I open up to you about everything" You open your mouth to say something else but Sana shushes you then she reaches for the shampoo "Now wash my hair for me, pretty please?" You can't help but smile because she's so adorable.
When Sana turns around and tilts her head back, you grumble "I still think its super weird that you have like... superpowers."
"How do you think I feel? I'm still freaked out about it" She whines playfully as you lather her hair in her shampoo. The scent is warm and floral and you can't help but lose your breath trying to inhale more and more of it. It's one of those scents that only Sana has. So to you, it quite literally belongs to her, no matter who else may use it.
-
"The rain stopped" You mutter softly to the girl laying on your chest with her leg thrown over you. Sana only hums at your realization and you turn over to look at the window. It's covered by your curtains because you've both decided to go back to sleep but you can still see the sun peaking through.
You smile softly, thinking about how you agreed to tell her everything when you wake up. It doesn't feel scary anymore. In fact, you were actually looking forward to getting everything off your chest. You know you'll probably end up crying in front of her again--which you're still a bit embarrassed about--but you also know that she'll be there to hold you and knowing her she'll probably cry too.
That's when you eventually doze off, and for once it's easy.
"Babe?" Sana calls your name but she only hears your heavy breathing and from that she concludes that you're asleep. She innocently shifts just a bit to make herself more comfy and it happens again.
She sees something
At first it's kind of blurry so it's difficult for her to make out but as it gets clearer, she realizes that it's the both of you cuddling in bed together.
Then just like that, it's gone. Sana jumps, a small gasp escaping her lips and it wakes you up. "Whats wrong princess?" You ask tiredly, blinking when you notice the tears running down her cheeks. "Bad dream?"
Sana only shakes her head "No... baby, it's beautiful" she cries. You try to sit up because you're really concerned but Sana stops you. "Just let me hold you" She sniffles and you reluctantly nod, allowing her to wrap her arms around you the best as she can.
You're put at ease because she doesn't seem sad at all.
It's almost like she's right where she wants to be.

Fire Up The Night
Tumblr media
A/N: usually i don't write for Marco but this was a gift for a friend (I don’t remember if you wanted me to tag you or stay "anonymous" 😅) actually meant to be posted on christmas but i f'd up sorry so here's your belated gift
Plot: during a sparring session with marco things take a heated turn
Warnings: smut, nsfw, p in v (implied), MDNI
Characters: Marco x F!Reader
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting a golden glow over the training deck, the energy between you and Marco shifted.
You could feel the adrenaline coursing through your veins, fueling your movements as you danced around him.
This time, however, there was no holding back. You were done playing it safe; it was time to take your game to the next level.
With a fierce determination, you feigned to the left, then spun around, aiming for his ribs. Marco anticipated the move and sidestepped effortlessly, but you were quick, pivoting to regain your balance and lunging at him again, your sword gleaming in the fading light.
“Not bad,” he admitted, a hint of challenge in his voice. “But you’re going to have to do better than that if you want to catch me.”
With a sharp intake of breath, you charged at him, forcing him to parry your blows with renewed vigor. Each strike was heavier, fueled by the desire to break through his defenses—not just in the sparring match but in the tension that simmered beneath the surface.
You could see it in his eyes—he was enjoying this just as much as you were, relishing the challenge and the way you pushed him to his limits.
In a sudden surge of boldness, you slipped past his guard, maneuvering your body against his.
“Let’s see how well you handle this,” you teased, leaning in closer, your lips nearly brushing against his cheek as you pressed your body against him.
Marco’s breath hitched for a moment, surprise flashing in his eyes, but it quickly morphed into something darker—something primal.
“You’re playing a dangerous game,” he murmured, his voice low and filled with a challenge.
“I know,” you replied, your tone sultry and daring. “But a little danger makes things more......interesting.”
With that, you wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him down to your level. The world around you faded away, leaving just the two of you and the heat radiating between your bodies.
Before he could react, you pressed your lips against his with a fiery passion that ignited the air around you. The kiss was bold and demanding, and Marco responded immediately, his hands finding your waist as he pulled you closer, deepening the kiss.
But this time, he was no longer just reacting. He took control, pushing you back against the wooden training post, pinning you there with a heat that left you breathless. His mouth moved against yours with a fierce urgency, a mix of desire and raw power that sent shivers down your spine.
You could feel the warmth of his body against yours, the strength in his grip making you feel both vulnerable and exhilarated. The kiss became more frantic, more desperate, as you lost yourselves in each other, the boundary between rivalry and something deeper blurring with every passing moment.
As you broke away, panting, your foreheads resting against each other, you could see the desire swirling in his eyes—a hunger that matched your own.
“You’re not afraid to get rough, are you?” he asked, his breath mingling with yours, hot and intoxicating.
“Never,” you shot back, a playful challenge lacing your voice. "Are you?”
He grinned, the mischievous glint in his eye making your heart race.
“Oh, I think I can manage.”
Without warning, he grabbed your wrist again, his grip firm as he twisted you around, forcing you to face the post with your hands pinned above your head.
“Let’s see how long you can keep up this little game of yours,” he whispered, his breath warm against your ear.
A thrill shot through you as you leaned into the pressure, feeling both restrained and excited.
“You think you can intimidate me?” you taunted, your voice low and sultry. “I’ll show you how resilient I am.”
With a swift movement, Marco released one of your wrists, giving you just enough freedom to turn slightly, your bodies brushing together in a tantalizing way. You could feel the heat radiating off him, the power he exuded sending another wave of desire crashing over you.
“Oh, I’m counting on it,” he said, his voice low and teasing as he gripped your waist, pulling you flush against him again.
“But you’ll need to be careful. You don’t want to get burned.”
With that, he pressed his lips against yours once more, this time with a fierce passion that left no room for doubt. The kiss deepened, turning more demanding, filled with urgency and a wildness that matched the chaos brewing between you
Each kiss sent another wave of excitement through your body, a thrilling mix of pleasure and urgency.
Marco’s lips were like a fever, igniting every nerve ending as he deepened the kiss, pulling you further into this whirlwind of desire.
Then, as if sensing the tension escalating, Marco decided to turn it up a notch.
His hand slid under your shirt, fingers brushing against your skin with a careful yet possessive touch that made your breath hitch. You gasped into his mouth, feeling his warmth seep into your very core.
The sensation of his fingertips exploring your waist was electric, setting your skin alight in a way you’d never experienced before.You moved your hands instinctively, trailing them along his firm chest, feeling the strength of his muscles beneath your fingers. The heat radiating from him only intensified the thrill coursing through your veins.
It was thrilling to explore this side of him, and you relished the way he reacted to your every touch.
“God, you’re intoxicating,” Marco breathed against your lips, his voice laced with a mixture of desire and urgency.
His fingers continued their journey, tracing delicate patterns along your sides, igniting every inch of your skin where he touched.
"Maybe I should be saying the same about you,” you replied, your tone teasing as you leaned in closer, brushing your lips against his neck. The taste of him lingered in your mouth, and the raw desire swirling between you was palpable.
He tightened his grip on you, pulling you even closer as he tilted his head to give you better access. You kissed along the line of his jaw, feeling the hard contours of his body pressed against yours, making it hard to think straight.
The urgency of the moment made your heart race, and as Marco’s hand slid higher under your shirt, you couldn’t help but let out a soft moan. The sound fueled him further, and he turned to press you against the wooden wall again, his body pinning you in a way that made you feel both vulnerable and powerful.
“Are you sure you can handle this?” he asked, a challenge lacing his voice as his gaze locked onto yours. The intensity of his expression sent shivers down your spine, the playful game now teetering on the edge of something much more profound.
“I’ve never backed down from a challenge,” you shot back, a smirk playing at the corners of your lips as you leaned in to kiss him again. This time, the kiss was hungry, filled with a passion that had been building between you from the very start.
As you pulled away momentarily to catch your breath, Marco’s fingers lingered just under your ribs, teasingly brushing against your skin.
“You’re playing with fire, you know,” he warned, his voice low and husky, filled with a mixture of desire and something more protective.
“And I’m not afraid to get burned,” you replied, your confidence surging.
You could see the flicker of approval in his eyes, the way his smile hinted at both amusement and admiration.
“Are you really sure about this?” Marco murmured between kisses, his breath warm against your lips
"I wouldn't be here if I weren't,” you replied, your voice steady despite the racing of your heart. You could feel the warmth pooling in your core, igniting every nerve ending as you surrendered to the moment. With a determined glint in your eyes, you pulled him closer.
Every touch felt electric, and you couldn’t help but arch into him, craving more of the heat he radiated.
“I want to see how far we can take this,” you whispered, your voice a mix of challenge and invitation. There was something intoxicating about the way he looked at you, as if you were the only thing that mattered in that moment.
Marco’s eyes darkened with desire, a smirk playing on his lips.
“Careful what you wish for,” he replied, his tone teasing yet serious.
His hands moved again, this time sliding lower, finding the hem of your shirt and pushing it up, revealing more of your skin. The cool air sent goosebumps racing across your body, heightening your awareness of every sensation.
“I could easily take you right here,” he murmured, his voice low and filled with promise.
The heat in his gaze made your heart race, the idea both thrilling and terrifying. You raised an eyebrow, feeling bold.
“Then what are you waiting for?” you teased, your voice laced with challenge.
The air crackled with tension, and Marco’s expression shifted from playful to serious, the weight of your words sinking in.
“You really want that?” he asked, his tone suddenly more intense.
“Maybe I do,” you replied biting your lip, the adrenaline coursing through you making you feel invincible
His gaze bore into yours, a mixture of desire and something deeper reflected in those vibrant eyes.
“Then let’s make it a night to remember,” he declared, his voice steady with conviction.
He led you to a quiet corner, where the stars twinkled above and the sound of the ocean filled the air. The moonlight spilled over the deck, casting soft shadows that danced around you.
he closed the space between you, capturing your lips again in a kiss that was both hungry and tender. His hands found their way to your waist, pulling you closer as you melted into him. It was a dance of passion, an exploration of the uncharted territory between you.
Just as you thought things couldn’t get any more heated, Marco broke the kiss and trailed his lips down your neck, sending waves of sensation rippling through you.
“You feel amazing,” he murmured against your skin, his breath hot and intoxicating. The way he spoke, filled with desire, made your heart race even faster.
“Marco…” you breathed, your voice barely above a whisper as you tilted your head back, granting him better access.
The sensations were overwhelming, and you found yourself surrendering to the pleasure he was invoking within you.
Suddenly, he paused, pulling back slightly to look into your eyes, a smirk playing on his lips.
“I could get used to this,” he teased, his gaze lingering on your flushed cheeks
You began to explore, your hands roaming over his chest and shoulders, feeling the taut muscles as you pushed his shirt off. Marco watched you intently, a mixture of admiration and desire in his gaze as you confidently explored this new dynamic between you.
But he wasn’t about to let you have all the fun. With a swift motion, he turned the tables again, gripping your waist and lifting you effortlessly, placing you against the railing.
Your heart racing as you kissed him again.
As the kiss deepened, you could feel his hands tightening around your waist, fingers digging in just enough to remind you of the strength he possessed. You wrapped your legs around him, pulling him even closer as the world around you faded into insignificance.
In a single motion, he lifted your shirt over your head, exposing your skin to the cool night air, contrasting with the heat building between you. You gasped at the sensation, the thrill of vulnerability heightening your desire for him.
He took a moment to admire you, his eyes roaming over your body, drinking in the sight before him.
“You’re breathtaking,” he breathed, his voice thick with admiration.
You felt a rush of heat at his words, a mix of pride and excitement swelling within you.
“Show me how breathtaking I am,” you urged, your voice steady and filled with anticipation.
With that, Marco’s lips descended on you again, exploring every inch of your skin, every curve, every secret that made you who you were. His hands roamed, gripping your waist, pulling you closer as if he couldn’t get enough of you.
You could feel the heat building between you, a hunger that was all-consuming. Each kiss, each caress only fueled the fire until you thought you might explode with desire. The night air was thick with tension as you both surrendered to the moment, losing yourselves in the sensations that enveloped you
As you explored each other’s bodies, Marco’s touch was both gentle and commanding, igniting a fire within you that demanded to be fed
The taste of him was intoxicating, a mix of salt from the sea and something uniquely him. The heat of your bodies intertwined, and every kiss ignited sparks of electricity that made your skin tingle.
His hands found their way back to your waist, fingers deftly unbuttoning your pants with a confidence that made your heart race. You gasped as he slipped them down, leaving you vulnerable yet exhilarated.
“You’re so beautiful,” he breathed, his gaze filled with lust.
You felt a thrill run through you at his words, a blend of shyness and confidence as you pulled him closer, pressing your body against his
With a grin, Marco wasted no time in lifting you off the ground, cradling you against him as he found a more comfortable place and position. You wrapped your legs around his waist, holding onto him as he maneuvered you with ease, pressing you against the soft, worn wood of the deck.
He took a moment to admire you again, his eyes roaming hungrily over your exposed skin, the moonlight casting an ethereal glow around you.
“You’re a temptation I never knew I needed,” he said, his voice low and filled with intensity.
The moments became a blur of heat and passion, the sounds of the ocean the only witness to your intimacy. With each caress and kiss, you felt the barrier between you dissolve, leaving nothing but the raw, unfiltered connection that sparked between you.
As the intensity grew, Marco’s kisses traveled down your neck, his warm breath sending shivers through your body. He paused to nibble at your collarbone before moving to your nipples, drawing a gasp from you, and you could feel the tension building within you, a throbbing need that only he could satiate.
“Marco,” you breathed, your voice thick with desire. “Please.”
His eyes locked onto yours, a playful smirk dancing on his lips.
“What do you want?” he asked, his voice teasing.
"I want you" you whined
With a low chuckle, he obliged, his lips finding yours again as he shifted your bodies, positioning you just right. The night air caressed your skin, contrasting the heat radiating from both of you, and every touch, every kiss felt electric.
As the intensity escalated, Marco’s movements became more urgent, and you could feel the tension between you building to a near-breaking point. He kissed you deeply, capturing your breath as his hands began to roam lower, teasing you with tantalizing touches that made your heart race.
With a swift movement, he slipped your panties aside, leaving you completely exposed to his gaze and touch. You gasped at the sensation, the thrill of vulnerability mixing with the hunger burning inside you.
Marco took his time, exploring every inch of you, his fingers skillfully teasing your clit, coaxing soft moans from your lips.
“Marco, please,” you begged, the urgency in your voice growing more pronounced as the waves of pleasure built within you.
He grinned, his eyes dark with desire.
“Patience,” he whispered, leaning down to place soft kisses along your thighs as one hand played with your nipples the other circling your clit driving you to the brink of madness.
You felt yourself getting closer to the edge, your body craving more as he worked his magic, but just as you were about to tumble over the edge, he pulled away, leaving you gasping for breath.
“Marco!” you cried out, frustration lacing your voice.
“Just a little longer,” he teased, his smile infuriatingly charming. “I want you to remember this.”
With that, he captured your lips again, kissing you deeply, his tongue tangling with yours as he brought you back to the heights of ecstasy. As the kiss deepened, you felt him aligning himself against you, his body pressing closer, and you could feel the unmistakable heat of desire radiating from him.
“Are you ready?” he asked, his voice low and filled with promise. You nodded, your heart racing as you felt the world around you disappear once again.
“Yes,” you whispered, the word barely escaping your lips as he positioned himself against you.
With a slow, deliberate movement, he entered you, and you gasped at the sensation, the initial stretch igniting another wave of pleasure that crashed over you.
Your breath coming in shallow gasps as the heat within you grew.
Marco began to move, slowly at first, as if savoring every moment. Each thrust sent shockwaves of pleasure coursing through you, igniting every nerve ending in your body. You could feel the tension building again, the heat rising between you as your bodies moved together in perfect harmony.
The world outside faded completely, leaving only the sound of the ocean and your shared breaths. Each thrust brought you closer to the edge, the intimacy between you deepening with every moment as you let out a loud moan.
Marco responded with a low growl, his pace quickening as he pushed you closer to the edge. The tension built to an unbearable level, and you felt yourself on the brink of madness, a wave of ecstasy threatening to pull you under.
“Marco!” you cried out, your voice rising in pitch as pleasure coursed through you, overwhelming your senses.
With a final thrust, the world exploded around you, and you surrendered to the ecstasy that enveloped you, your body arching against his as you cried out his name, lost in the sensation and not caring if anyone could hear you.
Marco followed soon after, his release washing over him in waves as he pressed his body against yours, their connection deepening as the two of you rode the high together.
In the aftermath, as the waves of pleasure subsided, you found yourself wrapped in Marco’s arms, both of you breathless and entwined. The world felt both endless and timeless, a perfect moment suspended between you.
“Wow,” you breathed, still reeling from the intensity of what had just transpired.
Marco chuckled, brushing a strand of hair from your face, his eyes filled with warmth.
“Yeah, I didn’t expect that either.”
You smiled, a mix of satisfaction and mischief dancing in your gaze. “Neither did I. But it was worth it.”

People do realise he only got back from Nepal & a very big strain on his body and organs like a week ago??? Questioning him reposting at 1.30am or 3am means nothing. His sleeping is going to be messed up for weeks. Also reposting stuff twice is an easy mistake, he’s probably exhausted and forgets which he’s reposted as confusion can happen when re-acclimatising to normal altitude and reality after that. Goodness me the man can’t just do normal things without everything getting picked apart
Tumblr media
Oh Anons, especially Anon 2.... I think you'd gonna explode if you saw my inbox. You only see the bit on other blogs and ignorant people making assumptions and acting surprised about something, getting outrageous about something that they could have known already for a while..... if you pay attention to the right things that is, not to the things that do not matter at all. 🙄
Yes, I agree very much, that trek he did, the affects it has on your body, it doesn't matter how well you are trained or how much you always live in a jetlag style off life, it has a strain not only on your body also on your mind as well. Just go figure it's not for nothing he waited to take that opportunity after he had no more responsibilities and ties for a series he has been working on for all these years. And we all know this is something he always wanted to do.
Also agree on how he shared his wonderful experience together with the posts of Jake N. I loved to explore the maps to see where and how they went, look up pictures and places, read about the challenges. And then read it first hand from the ones who really did it. What a nice change from all the booze advertising, but even more what a welcoming change in my inbox. I pretty much enjoyed the calm, apart from that one persistent Anon that kept on going on and on about........ Ash.
Yes really even then, no need for me to check her IG as I would have a daily reports about what she posted together with the most biased opinion about it, of course all in the most extreme negative way. Get a life, get a hobby... that's what I would shout at this Anon's face in real life. What poor life do you have if this is your daily business and you keep on writing to me to get it out of your system even if I do not post any of it. Yes, I chose not to post or give it any attention in here... because I just know how giving this air is only gonna make it worse!
You know it's always the sort of people that are determined to judge about someone else's life, they always know what is best for you, they even think they know better what is best for you than yourself. Even though they do not walk in your shoes or see the sun and the moon like you do. And when you do not choose the path they think is best for you.... well.... yeah, that! Talking about getting picked apart Anon 1, and agree Anon 2, this whole agenda people have with him is so unhealthy
Anyway I could have predicted, I did in fact predict exactly two weeks ago what my inbox would look like today. How it would flood with messages about 'Ash this', and 'Ash that', and the 'no doubt he must be' and the 'are you still sure about...' exactly the way it did beginning this year with Sarah H. And here we are again, nothing changed.
Boom Ash is in London! - Sorry, no not Boom as if lightning struck, she announced it already 2 weeks ago people! And not only that, a week later she also announced she was gonna be in Glasgow. These are the stories of 13 and 20 December!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So how is it any surprise to people now? Oh wait, yeah you didn't see those stories, you just see what is now. Oh she's in London, oh he posts late a story and twice the same one.... must be... right, no doubt... Can't be anything else now can it???
Yes Christmas Day she posts from London (and before you ask no that is not Sam's hand)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as well as Boxing Day
Tumblr media
And let me help you here a bit, location Dear Jackie at Broadwick Soho. for the ones unfamiliar, yes that is the same location the Flute is in, remember that weird 'launch' party organised by Flaunt magazine and MGMplus UK?
And then OMG she turns up in Glasgow posting from EDA... oh wow. Let's just throw out all common sense and make things fit a certain narrative. Let's just simply ignore how Sam has been posting all Christmas Day constantly from 7am until after 11pm. Because that's what you do when you try to hide you're in London secretly meeting up with somebody who announced her presence there weeks ago. Right? Let's just pay attention to the fact he posted at 1.30am and 3am the night after Boxing Day (where he also posted almost all afternoon). Let's just conveniently forget that there are a ton of other options, like going out with other friends in Glasgow, or having some good times with family like his brother and newly wed wife f.i. or falling asleep on the couch while watching Netflix (his latest follow on Christmas Day) and I can think of lots of other options.
Nope, we just go by the one option that fits our narrative, right? Cause we all want some entertainment, and so we just claim he was with her in London without a shred of evidence, not even a voice or hand to be recognized not even a matching cloud on the horizon. And my persistent Ash-Anon (how I call her) is all satisfied as she get's her way with all the attention she so hard tried to stir in this fandom and now she can accuse him again of all kind of mischief.
Yes, my inbox keeps flooding, even while I write this post. I already lost count. The weirdest things, because... you all take this one narrative as a basis and lose all sense of reality focussing on minor things that do not matter and by ignoring things that do not fit the narrative and other simple options and things like:
You really think Sam would fly one day to London while knowing she would be in Glasgow the very next day? Especially after a trip that wasn't peanuts and had its strain on his body and mind? That he wouldn't spend time with family and friends in these holidays after that trip but run to London cause his employee is there all alone? And gosh why would they not meet up at some point, have a drink or dinner or whatever together while she's in town, why would he say no? Is that in any way proof he started to date his employee, or have some hidden relationship with her?
Even though it is a bit awkward how Ash pushed herself into his circle of friends, is it that strange she'd go to EDA to work out? Is it strange that when she follows 3.231 (and we thought Sam follows a lot!^^) that it she follows a lot accounts mutually as Sam does? And by following them, are they suddenly all her friends as well? Do you really think Ash never traveled before in her job representing the Jagermeister brand? Like she doesn't know anybody else in London but the people and places connected to Sam? Like she doesn't know anybody else in Scotland but Sam? (what about Shiobhan who became her bestie?) But nooooo... she traveled to the UK during the holidays, she can't have anything to do in the UK. She can't have any other friends there who told her about hogmanay in Scotland perhaps? Oh wait, that doesn't fit the narrative, let's just skip that, okay? Because then we have entertainment and we all can go on telling how somebody else must live his or her life, because we all know better than themselves.
Why do you all care?
You know what? I'm just gonna leave it at this and post this song with the lyrics. As they apply to all of us
youtube
Because, you know we're all just passengers in this world, much unlike those high mountains that are here forever to stay. Tomorrow or next year, it will be all the same, Just another drama and another name, Another fight who's right or wrong, And they all forgot about yesterday... when we were young!

Hi hi! Ive just stumbled across your writing and i adore it so much! You capture Azriel so perfectly!! I don't really have much of a specific request in mind (but trust me, I'll think of one and come back if that's okay??) But could I ask for something with our Az and a super strong, independent, sarcastic reader. I just love the idea of totally smitten Azriel and just all the fluff. I'm so sorry this is so vague but
Happy holidays!!
No Damsels Here
Pairing: Azriel x Reader
Summary: A fiesty Valkyrie with a sharp wit and the brooding Shadowsinger find their lives slowly intertwined through training, quiet moments, and unexpected gestures, leading them to realize there may be a growing connection they can no longer ignore.
Wc: 2.7k
A/N: Ok be honest, did you hack into my account and read my drafts bcs….I had just the fic for this request rotting for far too long. I hope you enjoy, it’s not my fav since I think my writing is better now hence why it’s been in my drafts lol and it’s like semi proofread—BUT thanks to this request y’all get more fluff. Everyone say thank you! :b
——
The morning air is cool and sharp, biting at your skin as you jog toward the training ring, late as usual. The sun hasn’t fully risen yet, its rays barely spilling over the horizon, but Nesta is already there stretching, as she is every morning. Ever the Valkyrie.
“You’re late,” she remarks as you step onto the mat beside her.
“Fashionably late,” you correct, tying your hair back. “Besides, I needed an extra five minutes of sleep. Someone decided to keep me up last night with her endless talking about smutty romance novels.”
Nesta doesn’t bother to hide her smirk. “Don’t act as if you’re not interested in my books.”
Before you can retort, Cassian’s booming voice cuts through the quiet. “Alright, enough about your romance book things. You’re here to train, not gossip.”
You glance over the training grounds, your eyes instinctively flicking toward the familiar figure standing on the far edge of the ring. Azriel is adjusting the strap of his leathers, his wings half-furled behind him as he surveys the weapons laid out with his usual quiet focus.
Nesta catches the direction of your gaze and nudges you with her elbow. “Still brooding, isn’t he?”
“He’s not brooding,” you reply, a little too defensively. “He’s… serious.”
Nesta gives you a knowing look but doesn’t press further as Cassian begins pairing everyone off for sparring.
“Y/N,” Cassian calls, grinning wickedly. “You’re with Azriel today.”
You blink, trying not to focus on how your heart jumped. Across the ring, Azriel’s eyes meet yours, and for a moment, you think you see the faintest hint of amusement in his expression.
Sparring with Azriel is both exhilarating and frustrating. He’s fast—almost impossibly so—and he moves with a precision that leaves no openings. You’re strong and quick on your feet, but against Azriel, every strike feels like a gamble.
“You’re hesitating,” he murmurs, dodging your swing with ease.
“I’m calculating,” you snap back, twisting to block his next move.
His lips twitch, the faintest ghost of a smile. “You’re thinking too much.”
“And you’re talking too much,” you retort, aiming a strike at his side.
He blocks it effortlessly, his wings shifting slightly as he steps into your space. For a moment, you’re close enough to catch the faint scent of cedar and something darker, something so distinctly him.
“Focus,” he says, his voice low and even, and you can’t help the way your pulse quickens.
But you don’t let him see that. Instead, you smirk and lunge to the left before sweeping his legs out from under him. He lands on his back with a soft thud, his wings flaring slightly to cushion the fall.
“Gotcha,” you say, planting your hands on your hips.
Azriel props himself up on one elbow, looking up at you with an expression that’s almost impressed. “Not bad.”
“Not bad?” you echo, laughing. “That was a textbook takedown.”
From across the ring, Cassian claps his hands. “That’s my girl! Show him who’s boss, Y/N!”
You smile proudly at Cassian, bowing exaggeratedly before turning back to Azriel with a proud smirk.
“Again?” he asks, his tone calm but with a flicker of challenge in his eyes.
“Obviously,” you reply, and the sparring begins anew.
You’re sitting on the edge of the ring after the session, toweling the sweat from your face as the others disperse. Nesta sits beside you, nursing a bottle of water and watching Azriel, who’s speaking quietly with Cassian.
“You know he likes you, right?” Nesta says, breaking the silence.
You choke on your water. “What?”
Nesta gives you a look, one brow arched in that infuriatingly smug way of hers. “Don’t play dumb. He’s been watching you all morning.”
“He watches everyone,” you argue, though your voice lacks conviction.
“Not like this,” Nesta counters. “Trust me, I’ve seen the way he looks at you. It’s different.”
You shake your head, refusing to entertain the idea. “He’s just… observant. It’s his job.”
Nesta doesn’t respond, but her silence is louder than words.
Over the next few weeks, you start to notice the little things. The way Azriel lingers near you during training, offering quiet pointers or stepping in to demonstrate a move. The way he always seems to know when you’re pushing yourself too hard, handing you a water bottle or calling for a break just as your muscles start to protest.
And then there are the gloves. The day before you’d worn down your leather gloves to their last seam, small tears at the knuckles.
You find them waiting for you one morning, neatly folded and left on the bench where you always sit. They’re sleek and well-crafted, the leather soft and pliable. With your name written on a piece of parchment laid neatly on them, in his writing.
“Nice gloves,” Nesta remarks as you slip them on.
“They’re… new,” you say, frowning slightly.
“Azriel left them,” she says, her tone far too casual.
You freeze, glancing at her. “How do you know that?”
Nesta smirks. “Because I saw him put them there.”
You open your mouth to respond, but before you can, Azriel approaches, his expression as unreadable as ever.
“Do they fit?” he asks, his gaze flicking to the gloves.
You nod, flexing your fingers. “Perfectly. Thank you.”
He inclines his head, his lips curving into the faintest smile before he turns and walks away.
“Hopeless,” Nesta mutters under her breath, but you don’t bother arguing this time.
It’s late one evening when Azriel finds you sitting on the balcony of the House of Wind, staring out at the twinkling lights of Velaris below.
“Couldn’t sleep?” he asks, his voice soft as he steps into the night air.
You glance over your shoulder, surprised but not unwelcome. “Something like that.”
He leans against the railing beside you, his wings folding neatly behind him. For a while, neither of you speaks, the quiet stretching between you like a warm blanket.
Finally, Azriel breaks the silence. “Something is on your mind”
“Oh? Am I that easy to see through Shadowsinger?” you ask, turning to face him.
“No, not always” he says, his hazel eyes meeting yours. “But you only come out here when something is.”
You hesitate, unsure how to respond. But before you can, he continues, his voice low and steady.
“You don’t have to tell me,” he says. “But if you ever want to, I’m here.”
The sincerity in his tone takes you off guard, and for a moment, all you can do is stare at him.
“Thanks,” you say finally, your voice softer than usual.
He nods, his gaze lingering on you for a heartbeat longer before he turns back to the view.
The silence stretches, comfortable but crackling with unspoken words. You lean your elbows on the railing, the cool metal pressing against your skin. Azriel doesn’t move, his presence steady beside you, a quiet sort of comfort.
“So,” you say at last, breaking the stillness. “Is brooding a full-time job for you, or do you just do it in your free time?”
His lips twitch, though he doesn’t take his eyes off the city below. “Depends. Are you asking because you want tips?”
A laugh escapes you, sharp and unrestrained. “Please, I could out-brood you any day of the week.”
Azriel turns his head slightly, enough that you can see the amusement flickering in his hazel eyes. “I’d like to see you try.”
“Oh, you will,” you quip, straightening up and crossing your arms. “But don’t come crying to me when I leave you in the shadows.”
“I don’t cry,” he replies smoothly, his expression as impassive as ever.
You snort, shaking your head. “No, of course not. The great spymaster of the Night Court doesn’t have emotions, right?”
His mouth curves into the faintest smile, and for a moment, you swear you see something softer beneath the usual calm exterior.
“Wrong,” he says quietly.
The sincerity in his tone catches you off guard, and for once, you’re at a loss for words. Before you can respond, Azriel shifts, his wings rustling softly as he straightens.
“I should let you get some sleep,” he says, his voice low and even.
“Sure,” you reply, recovering quickly. “I’ll need it for when I take you down in training tomorrow.”
His soft chuckle is the last thing you hear before he disappears into the shadows, leaving you alone with your racing thoughts.
The next morning, you’re determined to shake off the lingering feelings from last night. You throw yourself into training with a vengeance, sparring with Nesta and Cassian until your muscles burn and your breath comes in ragged gasps.
But no matter how hard you push yourself, you can’t ignore the fact that Azriel’s eyes are on you. He’s not overt about it, of course—he never is. But you’ve gotten good at reading him.
“Do you think he’s capable of blinking?” you mutter to Nesta during a break, jerking your chin in Azriel’s direction.
Nesta smirks, following your gaze. “Why? Is it distracting you?”
“Hardly,” you scoff. “I just don’t want him pulling something from all that intense staring.”
“Maybe he’s impressed,” Nesta says, her tone teasing.
You roll your eyes. “He’s impressed by my fighting skills, obviously. Who wouldn’t be?”
“Obviously,” Nesta echoes, her smirk growing.
“Don’t start,” you warn, grabbing your water bottle.
Nesta raises her hands in mock surrender, but you can see the gleam in her eye.
After training, you’re stretching near the edge of the ring when Azriel approaches. You glance up, noting the slight crease in his brow as he surveys the scrape on your arm.
“You should get that looked at,” he says, nodding toward the cut.
“It’s nothing,” you reply, brushing it off. “Barely a scratch.”
Azriel doesn’t look convinced. He crouches beside you, pulling a small vial of salve from his pocket.
“Hold still,” he murmurs, reaching for your arm.
You consider protesting, but the look in his eyes stops you. So instead, you sit there, watching as his fingers work with careful precision, his touch surprisingly gentle.
“You know, this is the second time you’ve fussed over me this week,” you say, breaking the silence. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were trying to impress me.”
Azriel doesn’t look up, but you catch the faintest hint of a smile on his lips. “Is it working?”
The question takes you off guard, and for a moment, you’re not sure how to respond. So instead, you settle for sarcasm.
“Not yet,” you say, grinning. “But keep trying. You might get there eventually.”
His quiet laugh sends warmth curling through your chest, and as he finishes wrapping your arm, you find yourself wishing the moment would last a little longer.
Later that evening, you’re in the kitchen with Nesta, raiding the cabinets for a late-night snack.
“So,” she says casually, popping a grape into her mouth. “What’s going on with you and Azriel?”
You freeze mid-reach, turning to glare at her. “What do you mean, ‘what’s going on?’”
Nesta shrugs, far too nonchalant. “I mean, he practically hovered over you all day. And don’t think I didn’t notice him patching you up earlier.”
“It was a cut,” you say defensively. “Hardly life-threatening.”
“Uh-huh.” Nesta leans against the counter, studying you with those sharp eyes of hers. “And the gloves? Or the way he’s always watching you during training?”
You groan, pinching the bridge of your nose. “You’re imagining things.”
“I’m really not,” Nesta replies, a sly smile creeping onto her face.
“Well, even if he does… like me, that’s his problem,” you say, crossing your arms. “I’m not some damsel in distress, waiting for someone to sweep me off my feet.”
“No,” Nesta agrees, smirking. “But maybe you’re someone who could use a little… sweeping.”
You throw a grape at her, and she laughs, ducking out of the way.
The realization of Azriel’s attention lingers in your mind longer than you’d like to admit. You try to shake it off—try to convince yourself that it’s just his nature to watch everyone, to care quietly. But there’s a warmth to his gaze when it falls on you, a softness that feels different, deliberate.
And once you notice it, you can’t stop seeing it.
Like during training the next day, when Cassian barks at everyone to do laps. You’re running alongside Nesta, your legs burning and breath hitching, when Azriel quietly falls into step beside you.
“Don’t overthink your breathing,” he murmurs, his voice low enough that only you can hear.
You glance at him, eyebrows raised. “I’m not overthinking it.”
His lips twitch, almost imperceptibly. “You were counting your breaths.”
You narrow your eyes, your tone laced with mock offense. “You’re watching me breathe now? That’s not creepy at all.”
Azriel doesn’t rise to the bait, but the faintest smirk graces his lips. “Just trying to help.”
“Uh-huh,” you reply, rolling your eyes. But when you refocus on your breathing, following his advice, the run feels a little easier.
A few days later, you find yourself in the House of Wind’s library, searching for a book Nesta recommended, the one she had mentioned to you a few days ago. You’re muttering under your breath, cursing the ridiculously high shelves, when a familiar voice speaks behind you.
“Need help?”
You whirl around to find Azriel standing there, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
“Not unless you’ve got a ladder hidden somewhere,” you reply, crossing your arms.
Azriel steps closer, his wings shifting as he glances up at the shelf. “Which one?”
You point to the book near the top, and without a word, Azriel extends a wing, brushing it against the shelf as he pulls the book down with practiced ease.
He hands it to you, his fingers brushing yours briefly. “There.”
You take the book, trying not to let the warmth of his touch distract you. “Thanks. I guess having wings is good for more than just flying, huh?”
His smile widens slightly. “They’re versatile.”
“Show-off,” you mutter, but there’s no bite to your tone.
Azriel doesn’t respond, just tilts his head as if studying you. The silence stretches, heavy but not uncomfortable, and you find yourself wondering what’s going on behind those hazel eyes.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” you ask finally, your voice sharper than you intend.
Azriel blinks, as though pulled from his thoughts. “Like what?”
“Like you’re trying to figure something out,” you say, narrowing your eyes.
He hesitates, his gaze steady but unreadable. “Maybe I am.”
Before you can press him further, he nods toward the book in your hands. “Enjoy your reading.” And then he’s gone, slipping back into the shadows as easily as he came.
The tension between you grows, subtle but undeniable. It’s not something you can ignore anymore—not when his gaze lingers just a second too long, or when his words carry a weight you can’t quite name.
One evening, after another long day of training, you find yourself wandering the halls of the House of Wind. You end up on the same balcony where Azriel joined you that night, the city lights below twinkling like stars.
You’re not surprised when he appears again, his presence so quiet you almost don’t notice until he’s standing beside you.
“Do you ever sleep?” you ask, glancing at him.
“Rarely,” he admits, his voice soft.
“Figures,” you mutter, leaning against the railing.
The silence stretches, but this time, it feels charged, as though both of you are waiting for the other to speak.
Finally, Azriel breaks the quiet. “You confuse me.”
You blink, turning to face him. “What?”
“You’re strong, stubborn, sarcastic…” He trails off, his lips curving slightly. “But you care. Even when you try not to show it.”
You stare at him, caught off guard by the honesty in his tone. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means,” he says, his gaze meeting yours, “that you make it very difficult to stay in the shadows.”
His words hang in the air, and for once, you don’t have a witty comeback. You’re too busy trying to process the way your heart is racing, the way his eyes seem to see straight through you.
“Well,” you say finally, your voice quieter than usual. “Maybe it’s time you stepped out of them.”
Azriel’s smile is small, but it’s real. And in that moment, with the stars above and the city below, you feel something shift between both of you—something neither of you are sure you can ignore anymore. Not when he feels that golden thread that glows in his chest, connecting his soul to yours.

Hello!! I know the requests are closed, but when you can, could you write one about Pau Cubarsí having a girlfriend who races in the Formula 1 Academy or even other training categories. I really like your writing, it's very creative. Thanks!!
racer girl / Pau Cubarsí
Summary: Pau x Formula 1 Academy driver!girlfriend!reader - Pau is always there to cheer on his racing girlfriend.
Requested?: Yep! Thank you very much! Also, I really appreciate you saying my writing is creative; sometimes I don't feel like it is so I feel very encouraged to have someone say that! 😊
Author's Note: I didn't say it anywhere in here but it's basically implied that this is the reader's first race win!
After the best qualifying of your life, your entire body seems to be pumping with pure adrenaline, even long after you're out of the car and are now in the garage.
And if you thought things couldn't get any better, they do as soon as you feel your boyfriend's arms wrap around you from behind, and his proud voice exclaim, "Y/n! That was insane!"
You immediately start giggling and turn around to face him, saying with a little sigh as you use a towel to wipe a bit more of the sweat off your face, "I just don't know how I did it..."
Pau grins, saying softly, "I know how you did it."
You raise your eyebrows.
"An amazing driver like you isn't the kind to let a bad start set off your weekend." His smile softens a bit. "That's just one of the reasons why I feel so proud to call an amazing driver like that my girlfriend, too."
You grin, nodding, before settling down on one of the stools in the garage and saying with a little sigh, "It's just... this week has been so hard. With first, feeling sick at the beginning of the week, and then having two terrible free practice sessions... God, it's just been a lot."
Pau nods, gently resting his hand on your shoulder. "I know... But you were able to break through that. I'm so proud of you." He smiles, kissing the top of your head gently.
You let out a little sigh, glancing up to him. "Now let's just hope things go well for the rest of the weekend in the races."
He smiles. "I know you'll put your all into it. I believe in you." With that, he sits down by you in another chair in the garage, saying simply, "And just focus on the first race right now. After you win that one, then you can worry about the next one."
You smile softly, nodding a bit, though looking down at your hands clasped around your towel. "Yeah, you're right," you say with a little laugh. "One step at a time, right?"
He grins. "That's what you always seem to tell me when I'm too worried or too hard on myself in my sport. It goes the same for you, in yours."
"I guess, it's just... you know, you've been able to come this weekend. I'd hate to end this great start with some sort of terrible flunk."
"Oh, raise your eyes," he says gently, reaching over to place his hand on your shoulder again. "You'll do great. And I'll be proud of you whether you win both races or DNF both or anything in between. Because I'm impressed you do any of this at all. And I know that you put your everything into every single drive."
You smile softly, nodding. "Once again, you're right."
He nods, squeezing your shoulder. "Just as long as you're just as confident in yourself as I am in you, hm?"
Your soft smile shifts into a more determined grin as you nod, saying, "Oh, Pau, trust me."
And he just beams, exclaiming, "There you are! That's my racer girl!"
The moment Pau watches you spin out in the race, the first thing he feels is likely a much more dumbed-down devastation than what you must be feeling right now. And the next thing he feels is guilt.
Yesterday, he spent all that time reassuring you and telling you, essentially, you could and would win the race, and here you are, with your car in the barriers.
Before the race, you were so pumped, ready to do whatever it would take to stand on the top of the podium by the end of it and feel the pride swell within you to do so.
Now, as Pau watches you get out of the car, the emotion cuts in him to see your devastated figure walk off the track.
When you enter the garage with your helmet still on and your visor still down, Pau goes to you, trying to talk, or help, or something.
But you walk straight past him, ignoring his grab for your arm and even pushing him away a bit.
It has nothing to do with him. Of course you're not blaming him, or anywhere near being mad at him. You're mad at yourself, and the situation, and simply desperately need some time to cool off. Alone.
But Pau doesn't know that, and sits around with his head aching and his heart pounding for the longest time, in worry for you and regret for whatever he thinks he's accidentally done wrong.
After much too long for Pau's liking, though, you come wandering to find him, and as soon as you do, you say, your voice still tender, "Hey, Pau..."
"Listen, I'm sorry-"
But you look at him with such a look of shock and confusion that he stops talking mid-sentence. "What on earth have you got to be sorry for? You didn't do anything wrong! It was me who pushed you away without explaining!"
"O- Oh," your boyfriend says softly as he realises, quite honestly, just how extremely stuck in his own head he was. "Y/n, you don't have to worry about that..."
"I should have explained I just needed some time alone. I'm sorry."
His eyes grow more tender. "Hey. It's okay. I understand it completely."
You sigh, nodding, looking down. And somehow, seeing that crestfallen expression all over your face, Pau can't help but pull you into his arms.
You sigh again, deeper. "I screwed it up. One of my best chances of the entire season for a win, probably."
"Y/n, it happens. And the only thing that's going to keep that as your one and only best chance is the mindset that it was. This is only the beginning of the season. You have plenty more races and weekends to go to prove that different, including the race tomorrow."
You sniff. "I guess I've just had such rotten luck all week, and I thought maybe things were actually about to look good for me, and get better, but it just turns out in the end it all got screwed over anyway."
He sighs, stroking your hair. "I know. I know."
He holds you in his arms for a while in silence, just like you do with him after a tough football match, until you've had some more time to think and let the cut scab over, and he says gently, rubbing your back, "There's always tomorrow. And after that, there's always the next race week. I know it's a big bump in the road, and I know it will be tough, but I also know you're an overcomer, right?"
You nod slowly. "Yeah... I know. I know you're right."
He kisses your scalp before saying into your hair, "I want you to know, I'm proud of you. This happened, and it's tough, but you're dealing with it really well. And I'll be proud of you again when you get a better result tomorrow."
"But what if I don't?"
"We both know you can't entertain thoughts like that. I know you can, and you know it too. If I can have so much faith in you, don't you ought to have just as much, if not more, faith in yourself, in order to succeed?"
You sigh shakily, leaning away from him, your back strengthening. "I've got to leave the past in the past and press on to tomorrow. You're right." You stand up, and he understands you have to go now, for your other duties with the team. But it's then that you add, "Just as long as we can cuddle tonight, to help me feel ready for tomorrow?"
Pau beams like a boy on Christmas morning. "Of course, Y/n. And I can't wait for that, too."
After waking up this morning in Pau's arms and having him deliver a caring, gentle pep talk in the sweetest of tones before your freezing cold shower, you felt ready for this day. Ready to conquer it, ready to win. Ready to prove to yourself you can do it, because at this point, to you, whatever anyone else thinks really doesn't matter at all.
But of course right now, that is the very last thing on your mind. In fact, you have absolutely nothing on your mind right now.
Because a strange phenomenon that you've found, at least with yourself, that is, is that when you're feeling such an incredible amount of intense emotion, which it be good or bad, or even a mix, there comes a point when there's so much of it that there's absolutely no space left in your head to even think thoughts, and instead, at least in the case of this situation, the only proper reaction you can find in response to what you're feeling is to turn on your radio and squeal at the top of your lungs into it in your car as you fly past the chequered flag before every single other car on the track.
Because you have just won the race.
It's absolutely unbelievable, that for some reason, there, in the car, you begin to cry, just a little. Maybe just a few stray tears.
But the most glorious part of it is that when you thought you couldn't do it, in the end, you did. You did it for yourself, to yourself, and proved your negative thoughts and misfortune throughout the week to be completely, utterly wrong.
And as you make your way to the top step and stand on it proudly, you're soaring, and you're absolutely positive that this simply must be the best moment of it all.
But then you think that all the hugs and congratulations from everyone around who supports you no matter what must be the best part of it.
But you're only met with truly the best part of it all when your eyes set upon the adoring eyes of your boyfriend. It's then that you fly, that your pounding heart truly swells with the pride, the realization, the glory of it all.
And then his strong arms envelop you, and he kisses you all over and says so many lovely, perfect, amazing things to you, but somehow, it's one phrase that really sticks with you in the end:
"See what happens when you simply believe? Why, Y/n, it's then that we have the strength to move mountains."

New year, New Arundhati (??) [lmao not really but hey!! small redesign!!]
Tumblr media
Taglist!!
@queengiuliettafirstlady @ike-garden2024 @sh0jun @welp-back-on-my-bs @colourless-hydrangeas @oda-princess @obeymetalesandikemen
Yippee!! And as always please let me know if you want to be added or removed from the list💛!!
More about Aru under the cut!!
To be entirely honest, there isn’t much I’m changing about her apart from her appearance (slightly). I also feel like I could have done a better job talking about things than I did in her previous bio but for the most part, things stay the same. I might just not be great at writing these lmao.
I want to emphasize that Aru is playful, warm, and at times, silly though she can be distant at first. Yes, the transition to the Sengoku Era was rough and Arundhati is fundamentally changed by it ( I believe anyone would be) but while she does become distant / detached at first, she manages to overcome that in time. Her “ruthlessness” and “tunnel vision” (as I put it in this post) all stem from the fact that she was thrown into a hostile world so unlike anything she’s ever known.
I think it’s also worth mentioning that she spent two years with her first mentor/guardian/teacher/boss Mochizuki Chiyome and even though she ended up being a mother-figure to Aru, was not particularly motherly. Chiyome’s training was harsh and it is somewhat of a miracle that Aru could pick up anything at all but it gave her the necessary skills to survive as a ninja in the Sengoku Era.
However, Aru at heart ( and to those who are close to her) is a compassionate person though she struggles to express it initially but give her time and she will find a way to show you she cares by taking the time to learn what it is you like. She’s observant, awkward and if she’s just met you but stick around long enough and you’ll see that she’s actually pretty silly, playful and genuine too.
Now for some Arundhati trivia because it’s important to me:
• She LOVES thrifting
• She has insanely sharp hearing.
• Very fast, agile. Not as strong. She can use a sword pretty well but she really does prefer her poisons.
• Has horrid handwriting. Even Yoshimoto, a man who manages to find beauty in almost everything, is taken aback.
• Her handwriting is so bad that Shingen came close to hiring a member of the Mitsumono specifically to decipher Aru’s reports because they were starting to drive him up a wall.
• The part of her backstory where she’s engaged to a man named Gaël remains the same (you can read more about it here though its not very much as I haven’t written all of it out)
Its worth mentioning that it was an extremely toxic relationship (I simply don’t go in depth in the previous writing of it) that had been falling apart for a long, long time.
• She’s strategic but sometimes said strategy will go out the door if she’s hit with an intense emotion. It’s rare but it happens and when it does, she has to rely solely on whatever skills she has at her disposal to get out of the mess she threw herself into.
(Im bolding the next one bc its so so important (= funny) to me)
• She can keep up with Sasuke’s STEM jokes. Has used physics related pick up lines on him before.
ie. “Sasuke, are you a quasar? …because you’re the hottest thing in the known universe.”
And that’s when he knew she was the one.
They really match each other’s freak in every sense.
Though there are moments where he’ll fluster her and she’ll shut down + vice versa.
• She has tattoos!!
—> A sun design on her left shoulder. Her name written in Tamil in her grandmother’s handwriting on the back of her hand. An intricate flower and another sun pattern on the right side of her hip going down her thigh (a pretty large tattoo at that.)
• She’s allergic to peaches. (but she has eaten some to prove a point to Kenshin. she regretted it afterwards).
[I’ll add more later!!]

Happy late Christmas, @winniemaywebber. I'm your secret santa this year. Sorry for the delay in posting
It's honestly been such a pleasure getting to know you. You're an amazingly talented writer and content creator. Thanks again for letting me borrow Olive for this story, and I hope I did her some justice. And a special thanks to @blakelysco-pilot for letting me name drop her fabulous OC Val. Please check out both of their amazing stories to get to know their girls better than I could ever hope to write them !!
Thanks aswell to @hbowardaily for organising the event !
Tumblr media
There had been nothing remarkable about that day nothing to set that Thursday apart from any other on the base. Rain, powdered eggs, and endless training. The kind of day that blurred into the monotony of military life, destined to slip through his memory unnoticed. The kind of day that had bored him senseless before he flew his first mission.
Sweet Like Honey
Unremarkable.
People didn’t die on unremarkable days. There were
no letters to write, no footlockers to pack and ship home. Those days didn’t bore him anymore.
It would have stayed unremarkable if Blakely hadn’t dragged him out. And he wouldn’t have gone at all if DeMarco hadn’t been rambling on about some girl he was hoping to impress. Douglass couldn’t resist the chance to witness that particular disaster unfold, so he went.
He’d settled into the seat next to Blakely, beer in hand, completely unaware that he was about to live through a moment that would stay with him forever.
He’d remember the brass band playing Moonlight Serenade in the corner of the room, the air thick with smoke and cheap cologne. He’d remember the way his heart skipped when the door swung open. How Blakely had straightened in his chair, his dimples deepening as a grin spread across his face at the sight of his Val.
And then, there she was hand in hand with Val.
The soft blue of her dress stood out against the sea of endless uniforms. But it wasn’t the dress, lovely as it was. Nor was it the way her soft brown hair fell in perfect curls around her beautiful face. As flawless as all that seemed, nothing could compare to her eyes.
The way they scanned the room, wide and searching, like she was seeing it for the first time. Like this little bar was something special, something set apart from every other dance hall or pub in England.
And yet, there was something in the way she walked confident, poised, as though she’d been here a hundred times before. She moved like she belonged. And yet, to Douglass, it felt like she was stepping into his world for the very first time.
“That’s hardly DeMarco’s girl, is it?” Blakely whispered, leaning in as they watched the man in question make a beeline for her.
“Not yet,” Douglass teased, though his confidence wavered when her eyes locked with his across the bar.
She held his gaze for a moment, long enough for him to notice they were hazel. Long enough for him to shoot her a wink more out of habit than intention. Her cheeks flushed, and she quickly averted her gaze, making him grin.
“Don’t do it,” Blakely warned, shooting him a knowing look.
“Can’t a guy introduce himself?” he shot back, though he was debating it in his mind.
He liked Demarco and hed been talking about this mystery girl since she’d “appeared out of thin air,” as he’d put it. He should have done the decent thing and stayed away, given Benny a chance.
But then she caught his eye again.
There was something so different about her. Maybe he just knew. Knew, the way the characters in Brady’s fancy plays always seemed to know in those great love stories. He’d never believed in that love at first sight.
Then there was Olive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was no room for fear in a flying fortress. He couldn't afford to let it seep into his mind—not when the flak got so heavy the plane pivoted, not in the silence that followed, brief as it always was before the Luftwaffe arrived. There was no place for fear among the scattered bullet casings. He ignored every hit as best he could, blotted out the holes as they appeared, and dismissed the bullets that zipped by all too close.
He couldn't fear not when he needed steady hands and a clear head. Not when Blakely put all his faith in him and handed over control. Once, he'd asked Blakely what it felt like to lose that control, for a pilot to let go of the plane and trust someone else. Blakely had simply raised an eyebrow, probably worried about the whiskey that had led his friend to such a serious question. Then he'd smiled and said, "As long as it’s you, Douglass, I ain't got no fear."
He’d never admit to the feeling none of them did. They left it behind on the hardstand, buried it under routine checks and procedures that reduced every mission to a series of ticked boxes. When rubber met tarmac at the end of it all, he thanked God he’d made it and moved on.
But as the air miles racked up and the missions grew more intense, it became harder to leave it behind. Harder to leave her behind. She’d smile and kiss his cheek, wishing him luck with a determination in her eyes so fierce he sometimes wondered if her will alone brought him back. But he worried now. As casualties mounted and men went missing, as their missions grew riskier and less planned, the fear followed him into the cockpit.
The fear of leaving her behind.
So he became determined to make every second count, to give her more than one memory to remember him by.
“Are you sure it’s not too... I dunno, cheesy?” he asked, eyeing the blanket he’d laid out on the ground. His cheeks burned. He wasn’t shy, but he’d never made an effort like this before, and her silence wasn’t helping. He was afraid to look at her.
Her hand found his, and their eyes finally met. “It’s perfect,” she said, her voice cracking slightly.
“You’re sure?” he asked, his thumb gently brushing over her knuckles.
“I’m sure.” To drive away any doubt, she kissed his cheek.
“Well then, sweetheart,” he said, flashing his best smile as he guided her toward the quilt. The light purple fabric stood out against the lush green meadow that rolled around the hardstand, still covered in the soft dew of morning. He’d laid a tarp underneath to keep the damp from seeping through.
He helped her sit, settling down beside her, close enough to catch the sweet scent of her perfume. She hadn’t had much time to prepare—he’d told Val to drag her out of bed and send her his way at dawn. It showed. Her face was bare of makeup, soft pillow lines still visible on her cheek. But her uniform was perfect, and he liked her this way.
“It’s a little early,” she teased with a yawn.
“Had to be,” he said, smirking. “You’d miss it otherwise.” He gestured toward the horizon, where the sun was breaking through the clouds. He’d seen his fair share of sunrises lately.
“Oh,” she breathed, her eyes lighting up. He couldn’t help but admire her.
“You James Douglass are more romantic than you let on,” she teased, though a slight shiver betrayed her. It wasn’t exactly warm, and he almost felt guilty for dragging her out of her cozy bed.
“Here,” he said, pulling a lavender blanket from the picnic basket he’d hidden in the long grass. He draped it gently over her shoulders and smiled as she snuggled into it, leaning against him.
“You hungry?” he asked, pulling out the delicately wrapped pancakes he’d bartered for in the mess. They were worth the Lucky Strikes he’d traded to see her smile. He handed her a bottle of cherry Coke, knowing he was onto a winner.
“What’s all this for?” she asked, not skeptically but in that teasing way of hers.
“Can’t a guy treat his girl?”
She smiled and placed a soft kiss on his cheek.
The sun climbed higher, tiny rainbows glinting in the morning dew. The base wasn’t fully awake yet—just a few distant shadows of men returning from the pub or finishing night shifts. But the meadow was alive in other ways. Birds sang softly, unaware of the war, as if it were just another morning. Swallows swooped low, catching sleepy bugs, while cows grazed peacefully in the distance.
“You make me strong, Ollie,” he whispered against her ear as they ate. As they huddled closer together, his arm dropped around her shoulders. Her head tucked gently against his collarbone. He couldn’t resist the urge to run his fingers through her delicate curls. She didn’t complain, though he was sure he was slowly unwinding them from their tight spirals.
“It’s beautiful, Dougie,” she sighed, her eyes watching the horizon.
“Ain’t as pretty as you.”
She sat up and faced him, the slightest hint of a blush on her cheeks.
He wasn’t sure who closed the gap. Maybe they’d both just been falling, pulled together by some invisible string. It was natural now, more polished yet no less exciting than their first kiss. No less perfect. She had a way of taking his breath away.
His hands stayed wrapped in her soft hair as hers ran along his uniform jacket, awakening every nerve in his body. There was only her.
When they pulled apart, breathless, their eyes were wide with want. The taste of her lingered on his lips, as sweet as honey.
“You’re staring at me,” she whispered against his lips.
“You know I can't help it ” he smiled.
i've managed to get really far with my ep4 meta, i've only got just over 3 scenes left (the "be my bf" scene, style finding out the truth, the gym scene, and i gotta finish the nc scene) but the problem is that i've only got about 4h left which i'll probably need to write it all up in the first place (also it's less than 3h bc i'm also travelling) and then i would still need to make the gifs and proof read it, which is also gonna be time consuming rip
New Age AU (Error's Wacky Wild Plan)
Hi guys. So. Crazy Story. The crisis that stopped me from working on my banner art actually catapulted me into writing this drabble finally! (Also the wonderful @ancha-aus was also a life-saver and helped me hammer out a few plot points for this installment <3)
Currently my only context for this drabble is that Error is tiny, and ran away from home because Geno moved to Reaper's kingdom to make money to send back home, and Fresh spent too long away on his trip. Error was expelled from his magic academy and came home to an empty house, so he left! Now he's been on the road for about a month? Nightmare has been ruling for about 6-ish years now, almost 7.
(Hello @mutzelputz and @papiliovolens hi guys!!!)
     The town was bustling.
   Error had been through a lot of towns since he’d left. Big ones, small ones, ones he was convinced weren’t even towns at all, just a few barns in a general closeness to one another who decided they needed to call themselves something besides the outskirts. Those people had been particularly hostile to his passing through.
   And, lately, they’d been really weird. People staring at him when he’d walk on the streets, or pass by shops. When they saw he had money from a different kingdom (he didn’t even realize he’d left his own, but he figured it meant he was on the right path) they’d squeeze their faces like they bit a lemon and hastily take his coin. Like it was cursed, or something. They were lucky it wasn’t cursed, honestly. He could probably figure out how to do that.
    This town, though, was filled so full with people that he imagined they couldn’t look at him weird if they wanted to.
   People were riding horses, chatting in the streets, all sorts of stalls and merchants were peddling goods, and he was almost positive he could hear music lifting down the street over the general drone. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d run into a place so busy. He’d always been told to stick to the side, out of the way, out of danger.
   He didn’t have to listen to that anymore. Though, he did skirt the crowds. The mass of people seemed all too willing to bump shoulders or elbows with each other in the early morning sun, and the last thing he wanted was to have his magic act up in a crowd. He’d done well so far.
   Every booth, every merchant, every passerby seemed jubilant, ebbing and flowing. It was like some sort of party.
   That was, until, Error spotted it.
   A big building, something that Error recognized only vaguely.
   It was an amphitheatre.
   Geno had taken him to see one once. Or, at least, the ruin of one. It hadn’t been too far from their home, and it was pretty abandoned and lonely. Plants had crawled up its walls, stones had fallen off in chunks, animals seemed to have deemed its high windows a perfect spot to build nests. It had been breathtaking, and ancient.
   This one? Seemed perfectly in-use.
   The walls were all in-tact, stones, an easy to look at grey, smooth and covered in little intricate carvings. Spells, he had to imagine, in some language he didn’t know. Curtains hung over the huge arched entrances, and heavy gates seemed to be lifted, the spikes at the base loomed over the heads of every passerby.
   He couldn’t help but marvel. Was this a restoration, or maybe it was new. Some sort of imitation. Regardless, he found that his feet carried him to one of the entrances, which stood largely empty aside from some folks who looked strikingly like guards.
   Two of them stood, long spears in-hand. They both stood stock still as Error approached, and didn’t move a muscle as he passed them. They were strange, definitely different. Not at all the town guard he was familiar with.
   The inside of the theatre was even more impressive. Rows and rows of stands seemed to line up either side. Huge tapestry hung from the high arches past those seats, and down the runways of the bleachers, all a bright teal and dark navy blue. They seemed fancy, and much newer than the curtains which had hung in the entrance.
   Beyond the walkway where he stood, was a set of stairs which led down a level or so, before it leveled out into an open space. Sandy, and very flat. It seemed like there were people there, too. A much smaller crowd, but still a crowd nonetheless.
   Error was almost amazed he’d not been stopped by someone yet. Whatever was going on seemed important, and so far in his experience, people did not like him sticking his nose into important business.
   With that in mind, he decided he’d stick to the entryway for now. He leaned his bag up against the wall and watched from a position where the sun still shadowed his form. He was often grateful for his miscolored bones. It made hiding in the dark a whole lot easier.
   It took a bit for him to really process what he was watching in the morning light.
   There were four people sat on a sort of raised box toward the front of a stage. A huge stage, raised up off the sand with wood slats. They had a long-table before them, and quills and ink jars in-hand. Well, three were sitting. One was standing. But the point is, they were all watching the stage very attentively.
   On-stage there was… basically nothing. Only a simple backdrop Error had to imagine was there at all times, because it looked like it was coated in sand, even from the distance where he stood.
   A person would enter the stage, the people sat on the box would speak to them, and then there was a flare of magic. Another. Another. And then they were dismissed.
   It wasn’t until he really bothered to think about what magic was being cast that he realized those were extremely simple spells being used. Levitate, Create Water, Mimicry. Or Flame, Gust, Light. All just three easy spells, and then they were off-stage. That was taught magic. It gave him memories of his entrance exam to his school. He’d been way overqualified to get in, Geno taught him after all…
   But, no, this didn’t feel the same. There were plenty of people who seemed to stumble at spells they didn’t recognize, or who couldn’t muster a simple breeze. Then others who were very old and obviously skilled. Obviously they found the three spells to be child’s play. Like Error would. This was no entrance exam, so what-
   “Hey, pipsqueak, what are you doing there in the dark?” A voice startled him, and it took all of his willpower to avoid jumping away from its origin.
   Error twisted rapidly, just in time to avoid the thrust of an elbow in his direction.
   There was a monster there. Three, actually. Two lizards, both bright green and tropical, and one who looked more like a dragon. The green one closer to him must have spoken, because he laughed at Error’s flinch.
   “Why are you bothering me?” Error shot back haughtily.
   The lizard seemed to grin at the response.
   “Oh, so we’ve got a feisty little small fry here? Thinks he’s scoping out the competition?” The dragonish one hissed, voice deep.
   The other green one tittered a giggle, “So cute! I can’t believe the King really decided to let just anyone try out for Royal Mage.”
   Oh…
   The lizard before him seemed to take this silence as a weakness, and reached out quicker than Error could react. A flick to the middle of his forehead.
   Error winced and pulled away, back and into the arena. He grit his teeth and clutched his skull, where at the same moment the lizard jumped back and shook their hand in the air a bit. His magic had reacted poorly again, and while it was better than it used to be, it still stung like 5 wasps touching down and stinging the same point all at once.
   “Little freak.” Was all the monster hissed, before he fled. His two friends moving on behind him in confusion. Approaching the line to the stage.
   Error stood there in the sun for a moment, rubbing at his forehead until the pain was more of a numb static.
   If anything, he appreciated the little run-in with those wanna-bes. Now he knew exactly what this was, and why it had felt so familiar to him.
   The Mage Trials.
   Geno had to go through them, and he’s been very thorough about his every single detail while doing it. Even though he was the best mage Error had ever known, he’d still stressed and wrote page after page of plans and spells and had placed them into a folder that felt thicker than an encyclopedia. Geno had always been the only one of them who bothered studying. Fresh couldn’t go to school anymore, and Error… Well, Error didn’t need to.
   Thinking about it, Geno had been very quiet about it, but Error had looked into his folder a few times. Just out of curiosity. It’d been split into three rounds, something Geno had said was standardized. The first was a test of someone’s basic magic skills, the second were more complex spells which the mage has practice in, and the third, the one that had given Geno the most grief, was the personal spell round. In the last one, there were no restrictions to what someone could do, so long as they had done the work themselves, and that it mostly used magic.
   If he was right, and he usually was, then this was the first round. Eliminating those with nothing but a hope and a prayer in their pocket before they got embarrassed before the one looking for the Mage in the first place. In this case, whoever this kingdom’s king even was.
   In just a few moments, Error had decided.
   This was how he’d prove himself.
   The line was already starting to get longer, and he didn’t want to be here until nightfall in a queue. He dusted off his scarf, his shoes, his bag, and set off into the bright sun to secure his place in this contest. No prep. No warning. Just with his raw skill and what he’d learned so far. Nothing could possibly go wrong.
.
   Finally.
   Error felt like it had been hours in the warm sun before he was finally up next.
   He’d been watching, of course. Watching as the people before him were passed or failed. It was just as he’d expected, and he couldn’t help but be a bit giddy as the two green lizard who’d bothered him earlier both failed. Though their dragonish friend had passed, it was still enough of a victory for him.
   Along with that, he noticed that the three people sat were all in robes of nobles. Something the wealthy and lofty would think to wear in a blazing hot arena all day. The one standing, though, was wearing all black. A hood was over his head, but Error thought he might be some sort of cat-monster. Very stone faced, very still. The only time Error had seen him move was seemingly to veto whatever choice the other three were making. He thought it was interesting.
   That didn’t matter, though.
   Based on what he’d seen, these people wouldn’t have any qualms with his magic. He was much better than half the people who’d already been passed, and knew he could keep him calm up on the stage. It’d be just like his entrance exam.
   He watched as the monster who’d gone before him, a skeleton who was twice his height and twice as animal-ish, bowed gratefully to the people on the boxes, the evaluators, and exited. She’d passed fairly easily, Error thought. Though, her focus seemed elsewhere based on how shaky the hold on her last flame had been.
   “Next!”
   The call was shrill, and Error had heard it over a hundred times already today, but this time it bounced in his ears as he lifted himself up the steps and strode onstage.
   If he’d thought about it, he would’ve tried to find a place to stache his bag, but it was too late for that, and frankly he didn’t trust it not to get stolen once it was out of his sight. Not with how busy the city seemed.
   When he was stood in the center of the stage, he looked out across the way to the evaluators. They seemed closer up here than they did when he was on the ground. Interesting.
   “First spell,” The person on the far left called, though Error could tell now that it was a voice projection spell. So they didn’t strain their vocal chords, “ Levitate.”
   That was simple. One of the first spells he’d been taught as a kid.
   His eyes skimmed briefly, there had been a few props on stage that he only noticed once he was closer that were meant to be used with this sort of spell, but Error wasn’t for that. Instead, he muttered the words under his breath, outstretched a hand, and felt his magic reach out around him. Beyond the stage.
   There… There was a barrier of some sorts, pushing back against his magic, between himself and the evaluators. He furrowed his brow and urged his magic forward. He didn’t have to break through it. He just. Had to- His magic felt like it was looping and wriggling like a worm through the dirt, but when it broke through on the other end, it felt so much more clear. He could feel a potent magic there, something raw and wet, like the air before a storm.
   That didn’t matter, though. None of it did, because he was on a mission. His magic finally found its target, the stacks of ink bottles which the middle evaluator had just before their parchment. The magic latched on, and Error finally allowed himself a grin as he tugged his hand upwards. They floated calmly into the air, three of them, and did a quick spinning motion, before settling back down just where he’d found them.
   He didn’t catch the looks on the threes faces, but he had to imagine they were priceless. He was more focused on letting the spell dissipate and preparing for the next.
   It took a moment, before, “Second Spell,” They said, “Create Water.”
   Another easy one.
   Error held his hand out again, though this time his palm faced the sky rather than the ground. At the mutter of his words, he could feel the water manifesting. Tiny droplets leaking from his fingers and into the air above his open palm, where he let it gather into a nice, easy sphere.
   It hovered, and for this one he could see the nods from the three evaluators. The fourth, the cat monster, didn’t move an inch. A good sign.
   Error, after a breath, moved the orb of water and simply set it on the stage floor. If he had to release it, he didn’t exactly want to get his clothes wet. That orb tended to shoot outwards when he released it, and the water would go everywhere.
   “Third spell,” They must’ve been contented with his simply setting down the water, for they continued, “Flame.”
   Ah, one of his favorites. He was never very good at it, of course, but it was certainly very fun. If nothing else it’d be a taste of his raw power.
   He rolled up his hanging sleeves, quickly using strands of string to wrap them in place, before he picked back up the water orb in one hand. With the other, he faced his palm toward the side of it, and spoke the words for the flame spell.
   The heat gathered in his wrist, and all at once shot out of his palm, like a cannon blast. The heat was intense, and Error laughed quietly to himself in pure elation as the fire did exactly what he was hoping. All at once, his glasses fogged, and a burst of steam blew past his face, off to the exiting side of the stage. He’d evaporated his orb, no longer needing to risk someone seeing him fumble with it and soak himself.
   He let the fire die after a few second, and quickly grabbed the hem of his scarf to wipe down his glasses from the fog left behind on their surface.
   The moment the red rims were back on the bridge of his nose, the voice spoke up again.
   “Name?”
   Error cleared his throat, before calling back his name in response. Just the first one, the last one didn’t matter anymore.
   There was another few breaths of quiet, before,
   “Age?”
   Error hadn’t heard them ask anyone else for their age, but he figured they’d noticed. How strong and talented he was at such a young age.
  He puffed up his chest when he announced, “Twelve!” to the arena.
   There were a few muffled murmurs from the line, but Error was too busy grinning across the way at the evaluators as they seemed to talk amongst themselves.
   He was ready to hear the word that would mark him to continue. The next part was tomorrow, after this round was concluded and the king arrived. He’d heard about it in the line while he was waiting.
   One of the evaluators lifted their gaze back to him. Opened their mouth.
   “Disqualified.”
   That.
   Huh?
   Error must’ve visibly glitched at the response, because one of the evaluators seemed to flinch. Ever so slightly.
   “How come?!” Error called back, reservations immediately fleeing his mind.
   How could they disqualify him? He hadn’t heard them do that to literally anyone else so far today.
   The evaluator on the far right spoke up, “Too young. Now please move off the-”
   Error might’ve let his mouth speak before his mind, if he hadn’t seen the way the mysterious cat monster seemed to slink forward. A simple tap to the evaluator’s side and they stopped mid-sentence, attention drawing to the person.
   He waited with balled fists. Hoping, against it all, that this person was using his mighty veto powers to get him his passing review.
   “The Knight wishes to speak to you further.” They said, when the person, the Knight, took a step back. “Exit the stage.”
   Mm.
   This was his chance. This was his moment. He was being allowed to move on, he was sure of it. It had to be.
   He practically scrambled off the stage and down the steps, and found that the Knight had closed the distance very quickly. He gestured silently for Error to follow him off to the side of the arena, seemingly outside of the voice spell’s range, as the noise of magic and calling for the next viewer seemed all muffled and contained.
   Something Error noticed about the guy, now that he was right beside him walking along, was also that he wasn’t a cat monster. No, he had some sort of mask shaped like a cat. Black spots painted on black fur, with piercing white eyelights hidden in the darkness cast by his black hood. A cloth mask covered the lower half of his face, so Error would’ve had no idea what kind of monster he was, if he hadn’t left his hands uncovered. They were grey and grimy, but they were most certainly bones.
   The other thing he noticed, was the magic. That damp, airy magic was no-doubt from this guy. It practically enveloped the both of them until they were stood in the shade of the wall separating bleachers from arena floor.
   “You said you’re twelve?” He finally asked, shifting on his feet to look at Error.
   The last thing he noticed, which only happened once he was able to look past the aura, was that. Well. He was a bit taller than this guy. Not by much, but there was certainly something stark about having to look a bit downwards to meet his eyelights.
   “Yes, I am.” He claimed proudly, still convinced this was to be his ride to the top.
   The knight seemed to skim him with his eyes. Surely taking in Error’s clothes, his bag, his glasses, the weird bones. Though, it didn’t feel pervasive.
   “Impressively strong for a kid,” He praised loosely, “And probably talented in spells if the nerds were any indication.”
   His voice was quiet and raspy, but Error had no problem listening to it. This strong and very cool guy who was called a ‘knight’ was praising him. This was much better than getting yelled at by his professors. Much.
   “Does that mean I passed?” He asked impatiently.
   He needed this. He needed this.
   The guy’s eyelights lingered on his face a bit, and it was then that Error finally noticed how virtually unreadable this guy was. Impossibly quiet, posture unmoving, all facial features shrouded in shadow and covered by masks?
   “I’m not sure what kingdom you’re from, but you’ve got to understand that the folks up there didn’t say no because you’re bad. They said no because the king made a new decree. “No soul under the age of 16 shall be put to work under the crown.” They’ve gotta take it seriously, just like everyone else has to follow the new rules about their own shops and businesses.” He said evenly, eyelights never leaving Error’s face. “You’re a couple years too early is all.”
   It felt like he’d been shoved into a ditch, and he could already feel his right hand starting to tremble with the beginnings of a glitch. He was furious! How could they possibly say no to him because of some stupid rule about his age?
   “No!” He exclaimed, trying to bite back the distortion on his voice, “I’m not going to just walk away. If I could just move on to the next round, they’d see I’m different! I’m not some weak little baby!”
   He clenched his fists, driving his jittering one forcefully into his pocket.
   The knight didn’t even flinch at his declaration.
   “They’ve already seen that.” He said easily. “Listen to me. Error, right?”
   Error hesitantly nodded.
   “Error, ‘m sure that if my Lord saw you in action, he too would agree that you are very strong and resourceful.” The knight said, and Error hated that it sounded earnest. “But, he set that law into place for very good reason. If by any means those folks back there were to let you through, to pass you, and you made it before the king next round? They’d have committed treason, and I’d have their souls on the end of my bone in three seconds flat.”
   His voice was hard and serious, and Error held strong as a loud crack echoed out beside the knight. A bone raised from the ground, sharp and jagged on the end, absolutely radiating magic.
   “Do you really want their blood on your conscience, just so that you get sent away by the King anyways?” The knight offered.
   Error hunched his shoulders a bit, and he felt his static worsen as he let his eyes linger on the bone. Yes. He muttered inside his head. He wanted to scream it at the man before him. Tell him that this was his one golden chance to prove himself.
   But to who? He would ask, and Error wouldn’t be able to say it. It’d be a wasted sentiment and wasted time and wasted lives just for his temper tantrum.
   “...No.” He bit out meekly.
   He stood there, feeling a familiar shame creep up his spine. The knight made no move to leave, though he did let his bone disappear. The ground looked untouched from where it had split out of. Just more sand. Sand that was getting into Error’s bones. That he’d have to clean out later. Swinging in his hammock, lonely and moping.
   “Heh,” The chuckle was almost inaudible, and Error was almost ready to let his distress turn back into rage, but, “Better kid than I was.” The Knight mused into the open air.
   He seemed to shift his stance again, and Error took a half step back.
   “You’ve got your life ahead of you, kid. Don’t let this keep you down. Take the road less traveled by or whatever.” He said then, waving a hand loosely before him.
   Error stared at him, trying to even his breath, before he had an idea.
   “The other two rounds will be here, right?” He asked, voice still harshly stuttering and screeching. The Knight seemed unbothered.
   “Yeah. Planning on sticking around to watch?” The knight questioned, though it felt more like a warning.
   Error nodded in agreement without hesitation. “If these geezers can get the job, I need to see what kind of tricks they have up their sleeves.” He agreed.
   That earned another little chuckle, before the knight looked back to the stage.
   Up in the center was a new mage, a human who seemed to be making a pretty wild wind that was whipping the sand around, bothering the people in line behind him. Error heard the knight make a scoffing noise, before turning back towards the stage.
   “Go hang around somewhere else for a while, why don’t you? I have to go make sure those nerds don’t pass that guy.”
   Error didn’t even get to say a farewell before the Knight was off.
   It seemed like every stride he teleported a bit further, building speed until he stopped cleanly up on the pedestal. Just in time for the sandstorm to die down.
   Error didn’t want to walk away from this, he didn’t, but staying would only waste his time. It only took a few more seconds, to watch the knight nudge the evaluator and hear the muffled call of ‘fail’ ring out across the arena before he was turning tail and moving out of the sandy paradise, back into the bustle of the living city.
.
.
.
   It was impossible to miss it. The sounds of celebration as the monarch entered the town.
   Error could see the royal carriage from his perch, an old temple tower that had at some point lost its bell. It seemed untouched, birds nests and cobwebs, so he’d set up a hammock and a little makeshift shelter inside using his strings just before night fell.
   He’d snatched some food from the town as dusk was setting in, and he’d been comfortably whittling away the dark hours, working hard on his plan.
   With the King officially in town, that meant the second round would be starting up shortly, taking the numbers of who would be in the third round down by hundreds. He hoped the king was stingy about it. He hoped that dragonish monster would stumble on his spell and turn someone into a frog.
   The thought humored him, and he cackled quietly to himself from his makeshift room.
   The sun was high again, and he was only a part of the way through. His spells required a lot of his magic to be woven into them, and while it was much much faster than what he’d heard was the usual, it was still difficult to make.
   Weaving the blue strings from his sockets, to his fingers, around his fingertips, and into the shapes he needed. It was monotonous, and boring by all accounts, but with every strand there was a new flow of power. A new pump of adrenaline into Error’s soul as he recognized his creation becoming more potent. Intent, intent, intent, every loop and knot was filled to the brim with it. His frustration sat at the core. Much more volatile and destructive than his usual intent, but it would serve him well if he wanted this plan to go well. Around it was his determination. The strings woven in with a sense of stubbornness which refused to let go, like a snake swallowing its prey whole. This would compress the first layer into a proper state. Let it coil and coil and coil until it burst. It’d be big, and loud, and send out that message he so desperately needed to be heard by the king.
   Skipping the second round would probably hurt him in the long run, but… That knight had said he’d have to kill those people if he showed his face in round two. So, he’d just appear in round three instead, and make up for missing the second one. A final act, of sorts.
   He’d have to be at this all day to make the time crunch. The orb was hardly as big as his palm, not nearly big enough. Though, he had wasted time making the shelter and finding food. He’d just have to skip a couple meals to make up for it. He didn’t really need to eat that much anyways, he’d known that for years. He just tried to make an effort when he smelled something tasty.
   He knew he could manage.
   It was late in the night when Error finally started on the outer layers. Those which would be filled with his patience, so that the potent insides would not be sensed as he moved with it among the many magic users.
   The town had begun to line the streets with torches and party as the stars arrived. No doubt celebrating those who would be at the third and final round tomorrow. The ones who would be competing to become the new Royal Mage.
   To Error? Every single moment down there was dedicated to him. They just didn’t know it yet.
.
.
.
   The morning came, and Error only had a few more layers.
   By the time the sun was almost in the center of the sky above, he had finished it, and carefully tucked it into his backpack. He unraveled the strings and carefully wrapped them, shaping them, changing them into a thin net with long ends. This was shoved into his jacket sleeve, the ends clutched tight in his hand.
   It took him hardly any time at all to get to the arena, and he was early.
   Good.
   He settled himself up in the stands, as close to the stage as he could get. Many people seemed to be staying outside the arena, sticking to the streets, but there was still enough of a crowd in the bleachers that Error had to be careful as he worked his way along the edges. He needed to be closer. Closer…
   There.
   He stood at the railing behind the stage.
   From here, he could see the line to the left, and he could see the people who had finished lingering on the other side. None of them spoke to each other, only standing about, icily, waiting for the rest to finish so they’d know which of them was chosen, and who was not. Error had to imagine that these folks were just as lame and boring as the seniors from his old academy. No fun at all.
   He waited, so, so patiently, for the next few people. The last few.
   Though he couldn’t see the spells themselves, he could certainly feel the pressure coming off of them. The control that they’d need to balance it. How much it might’ve drained their energy to do it just once. He was attuned to that sort of thing, he had to be.
   His assessment was that all of these last few folks weren’t bad, but they were no match for Error’s raw talent.
   Each spell cast seemed to tick away at Error’s patience, until it finally happened. The last mage went on-stage. It seemed there had been 15 of them.
   He’d have to make 16, then.
   It felt like a blur as he jumped the rails and let his strings carry him across the open space, much to the shock of the few who had been watching the competitors from around him. The blue lines snatched at the wooden supports of the stage, and he swung right over top, landing a bit messily in the center of the stage.
   He didn’t have time to look at everything. All he knew was the crowd was much larger than last time, that there was a shout of ‘Hey!’’ from somewhere to his left, and that the box across from the stage now held only three people. Monsters. One Error recognized, the knight in shadows who’d spoken to him. The other two he didn’t know, but he had to assume the one in the middle, tall and imposing, and dark, with an eyelight the same colors as the tapestries, was the King he was looking to impress. That was all he needed to know.
   “M’lord, my name is Error!” He called out across the sand, and in one motion he shrugged the bag off his shoulders and used his strings to tug the orb out of its canvas body. “I want to prove that I’m more capable than any of the adults who just went before me! I could be your mage!” He would be the mage.
   The orb sat cradled in Error’s hand for only the briefest moment, before it was inside the little net he’d made. He swung it in circles. Again. Again. Again.
   He had to be fast. He had to do this quick.
   Error spent one last moment, extending his reach through his strings, muttering words and igniting an intangible spark.
   For a brief moment, he watched as the King seemed to ease forward. A hand now raised, seemingly calling off his knights, who had been almost in motion.
   He released the orb directly upwards, momentum carrying it up.
   Up.
   Up.
   Into the blue sky. Practically into the sun.
   Error watched it rise above him.
   Only.
   “Shit.”
   His calculations must’ve been off. He must’ve added a layer too many, or maybe he released it a swing too soon. But he could tell that it wouldn’t clear the top of the arena.
   Maybe if he had a few more seconds he could’ve used strings to boost it. He could’ve sent a magic gust to lift it further.
   Not the case.
   He watched as the orb detonated, just like it was supposed to.
   The wave moved horizontally through the air, and swept across the air above the arena so quickly that it sucked the sand from the top layer and threw it against the tall walls. Error’s footing slipped, and he stumbled to his knees on the stage as the wind whipped and tugged the heavy curtains into the air current as well.
   It was an almost invisible force, Error had to imagine anyone without a solid grasp of magic would entirely miss it as it spread out.
  He winced as it finally reached the edges of the arena, where he had just barely managed to fall short of clearing.
   As the magic passed over the stone and mortar, he saw as it fell. Not in chunks, but crumbled like dust into fine particles. The upper half of every arch at the top of the grand amphitheatre, turned pitch black, then wasted away.
   He hadn’t meant for it to come in contact with anything. It wasn’t supposed to do anything but harmlessly wave over everyone’s heads. As a show of his strength. That was all.
   Error could only think back to when this had happened before. When he’d accidentally exploded Geno’s favorite mug while metering the strength of his strings. When he’d broken the wheel of a carriage passing through the woods with a wayward slingshot blast. When he’d broken all ten of the large windows in the lecture hall of the academy when he failed to complete a spell the way it was written. When he’d done it too well.
   As he rose to his feet, he half expected the nagging voice of his older brother to be there, chastising him for not being more careful, before taking him home and making him dinner.
   It wasn’t that, though.
   He watched out across the sand. The king had his head tilted only slightly, looking up at Error’s lofty mistake. At the clean cut where stone now met unbothered air. His knight, the one in all black, was leaned ever so slightly towards him. They must’ve been speaking. Or, at least, the knight was.
   About Error, he had no doubt.
   He stayed in place, watching, swaying a bit with the residual force of his own spell lingering in his fingertips. Every instinct which told him to run and to hide were smothered and stamped out by the ligering fact that he had nowhere to go. Without his brothers, there was no one to help him. He knew it.
   Even in front of this crowd. These mages. This King and his knights. He couldn’t bring himself to move offstage. Some part of him, deep down, childishly wanted the King to announce that he was impressed. To parade him offstage and let him experience what Geno had. Let him know why Geno left.
   The King’s single eyelight swam back over to look at Error in the silence.
   Error felt like the world had stopped.
   It hadn’t.
   There was a clattering of armor and rustling of fabric, suddenly loud in his ears, and he had no time to react as everything came rushing in all at once.
   Hands. Heavy, gloved hands. Two sets, two hands each wrapped one of his upper arms, and immediately lifted him off the ground. Into the air.
   Pain flooded into his bones from his soul, like twin lightning strikes, trying to singe the bone and the magic in its core. The pressure wasn’t much, his mind knew that, but his body usually didn’t listen to him. He tried desperately to hold it in. The rampant part of his magic that had been hurting him since he could remember. That made it hard to touch anyone. To shake hands. To hug his brothers.
   “Let go!” He pleaded, though he wasn’t sure if his voice made any sense. Fresh always told him they couldn’t tell what he was saying when his voice got too bad.
   More pain. He kicked his legs at the open air, and tried to muster control over his strings, just for a moment, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t focus.
   And all at once it stopped.
   Error’s feet were on the ground again, though that promptly became his knees again as he swayed and wavered in the sudden aftermath of his active magic dying down. Receding back into his soul. Because it didn’t need to ‘protect’ him anymore.
   He spotted then, as his vision returned to something aside from the gloves or the sky, that the King was no longer in his throne. In fact, there was a heavy, encompassing, magical weight behind him now. Somewhere very, very close-by.
   He took a deep breath, grounding himself.
   “We are taking a recess.” Announced a booming voice. Very nearby. It was deep, and felt almost the same as the projection spell from two days prior. Then, more quietly, “You will leave the boy to me. Go ensure no one was injured, then manage the crowd. I’ll make my choice tomorrow at sunrise.”
   The second bit felt quieter, an edge to the tone that Error didn’t quite like. Considering he must be the boy in question.
   It was a moment, a few muddled ‘Yes, my king’ s, before Error found a pair of boots stepping before him. His head swam as he looked upwards.
   The King, he figured that had to be him, was dark. Very dark. Like a living, dripping, shadow. Magic seemed to be all he was made of, an aura radiating from him. Dripping off his back into long slimy worms, twitching as they sat near the ground. He wore a fancy cape, too. One with huge gold clasps on his shoulders, one was shaped like the moon.
   Error looked to his face last. In hindsight, something that could’ve been very, very bad. He was met with a dripping face. Skeletal. The place where his right socket should’ve sat was covered in that dark substance. The other hollow, with that bright cyan orb staring right back at him.
   “Can you stand?” His voice came easily, and Error braced himself.
   Could he?
   He had to, he didn’t want to be touched again.
   Error took another breath, and managed to rise silently to his feet.
   “Good,” the King said once he was standing, “Follow me.”
   It was an order he didn’t dare refuse.
.
.
.
   Error found himself in an odd position.
   He’d been given time to sit and recover from his magic’s outlash, and now he was sat in a room beneath the bleachers of the arena alongside the King and that knight he’d met before. The other one was guarding the door, he thought.
   It’d been silent for a while, and it was almost expected when the silence was finally broken.
   “You said your name is Error, correct?” The King asked, and Error gave a nod of yes. He forced himself to meet the King’s gaze.
   “Dust says that you’re only 12, and our people disqualified you in the first round. Is that right?”
   Error nodded again.
   “And Dust even explained to you why you were disqualified?”
   Another nod. It seemed he’d at least made an impression on the knight. Dust.
   The King tilted his head ever so slightly to the side, eyelight holding Error’s tightly.
   “Then, I’ll ask, what brought you to think this was a good choice? To try and become Royal Mage above any cost it might bring?” The king asked, and Error was surprised to find it was a shockingly gentle tone. “Your home, your family, your life. You are so young, why put it all on the line like this?”
   Oh.
   It was almost funny. Was this whole thing because the king was some sort of charitycase? So disillusioned by his perfect life that he couldn’t even think of the hardships any random kid could go through? He almost grinned at that, barely keeping his mouth from twitching in a mix of frustration and humor.
   “I wanted to prove myself,” He muttered, “And besides, becoming the Royal Mage would be great.”
   He waited, waited for the King to inhale, to say something, before,
   “I’m an orphan.” He spat, finally. “Family abandoned me, house is left behind, expelled from school. I don’t want to keep wandering.”
   It was basically the truth. This was his big break. His one last chance before he became a hated little vagabond. Maybe even a criminal. Maybe he’d have to go on the run for the rest of his life, live as a nomad. Join a caravan. Those people got stopped a lot though, kingdoms didn’t like them. He’d probably explode some city’s bakery by mistake and get put in jail for-
   “Wait!” Error suddenly exclaimed, breaking free of his thoughts, “Am I in trouble? Am I going to jail??” He asked then.
   His worries slammed to a grinding halt and he stared wide-eyed at the two before him. Geno had always told him not to go making his big stuff near town, because if the guard caught him he wouldn’t be able to bail him out. He’d end up in jail. Of course, it’d never happened back then because he was always fast enough. Always smart enough to get out of dodge when he broke something or made poor decisions. Here? Here he hadn’t run when he had the chance.
   The King stared at him, his one eyelight nearly mirroring Error’s in surprise at the question.
   “I mean,” he started, “You’re young. If I wont let you work for me, I wouldn’t dare put you in prison either.” The King stated, “Though, you did do quite a bit of damage to the theatre.”
   Error watched him break eye contact finally and look over his shoulder to the Knight stood there. He’d been silently watching Error too.
   When he had no insight, The king seemed to heave a sigh, and the shadowy extra limbs which draped around him twitched.
   “You’re sure you have no family? No home?” the King asked him again, and Error nodded.
   The king muttered something under his breath, and shot the Knight another look. The knight shrugged.
   “I… Will not employ you. Though, I do see talent in you, Error.” the King said carefully, a bit slower in his words than he had been up until now. Almost… unsure. “I will, however, extend to you the title so that you may conduct…” He waved a hand before himself, as though searching for a word, “ You may conduct independent research. If you accept, of course.”
   “You would be free to resend your acceptance at any moment, no strings attached, and may take any work you complete along with you, and any pay you receive would be given to you after your 16th birthday, if you stay that long.” He added, “I’ll have to rewrite the contract, but-”
   “I accept!”
   Error couldn’t help himself. He was so excited he could puke. The last thing he’d expected was to pull this off. This shitshow of a scheme actually got him the job? He could scream. He could jump up and down for joy. He didn’t, he sat eagerly and tense in his seat instead, but he could’ve.
   The King seemed to hesitate, for a few breaths, before relaxing. He stood, and offered a hand out slowly to Error.
   Error stood too, grinning. He could manage this one. He could do it.
   It was brief, but he grasped the King’s hand and shook it firmly.
   “Dust, will you help Error locate his belongings, and escort him to wherever he is staying tonight? I’ll send Cross to swap with you a bit later. We’ll reconvene in the morning just before sunrise.”
#new age au#Gods these guys are so so silly to me#I wanted this to be Error's perspective mostly but also. I love the others dearly#I need y'all to know that Dust and Nightmare 100% talked about Error's situation after Night offered the deal and they agreed it was#probably the best call for Error's sake if nothing else. But like. What poor timing for such a strong orphan to come out of nowhere#and immediately mess up Night's new rule lmao.#Also idk if I lost steam into the 2nd half so I apologize if that's not as tasty but like... I had a lot going on and I knew if I stopped#it would never get finished ever haha-#Let's see what other thoughts i had...#Definitely need to write Error first arriving and feeling the whimsy of meeting Geno and getting to rant to Nightmare about his newest craz#idea and getting his own courtyard to try things out and all that jazz#And also experiencing Ccino panic at the sight of a young child because ??? Night ur better than that what happened??? And subconsciously#pick up on the brotherly energy they have towards eachother.#And to let Error set boundaries about his tower#who can come in and who can't and how to call for him (use strings outside like a door-knocker basically) and just! Watch him adjust and#thrive!!!!#anyways yeah. Dust definitely becomes the one Error speaks to the most often besides Nightmare. And Nightmare is busy so he mainly just#checks in on him to listen to his new ideas and make sure he's still alive#so there's not a whole lot of interaction aside from Night being a positive and encouraging force to Error's magic practice (maybe they#train on occassion too?)#And then. Y'know. Nightmare shrinks and is just a lil goofy nerd and loves listening to Error and thinks he's super duper cool.#(OH! And Error turns 13 like. a few days into his emplyment#so he's 14 when Night becomes 13 again-)#okay good night everyone!!
Can I just for a minute complain as someone dyslexic about how when I was young everyone would always be like "well look up the spelling in the dictionary"?
Just now, I go to type a word and I spell it something like "erevicobly", which is obviously wrong, but... no idea
Well, I throw it in the search engine* and find out it's irrevocably (didn't spell it right there either, but got it close enough spellcheck could fix it)
Now you might notice something here, which is if I'd looked it up in the dictionary, I wouldn't have found it, no matter how long and hard I searched, because I'd be looking under "er" not "ir"
So do you see why that advice made me mad as hell as a kid, and I stand by my feelings today?
*literally one of the few ways search engines are a blessing is being a really great way to find spellings
#like my typing is great with very few mistakes; but my spelling while mostly alright these days isn't great#cause like... literal diagnosed dyslexia since I was a tiny kid#and let me tell you; no matter the reason; people will shit on you so much for poor spelling (no matter the age too)#fucker; we speak english; everything you said was a lie#there's not (consistent) rhyme or reason to it; and sounding it out is terrible advice cause we've all got fucking accents#and sometimes even if you don't the word is fucking worcestershire and you're fucked#actually gets me a bit heated how many good teachers I had who still acted like this#I actually have many strong opinions on linguistics and teaching despite not being a linguist or a teacher#give me descriptivism or give me death#prescriptivism can burn in hell where it belongs#and one thing that technology has 100% made better (at least for me as a dyslexic adult) is being able to spell well and quickly#it's an aid and an accommodation to me; we just don't look at it like that#I literally can't even spell accommodation; but you get to see the right word there#I have a vast vocabulary... I just can't fucking spell half of it#so prespellcheck you just kind of... had my writing look a lot worse and be a lot harder to parse#the main thing that helped with my spelling wasn't school or anything... it was everquest#you want to be able to type to people and be understood; there's no spellscheck or anything... you work to get it right quickly#mmos are a great way to teach typing if you don't have voice chat#similarly it's actually thanks to tumblr that I'm a quick typist; zero formal training with it and sucked through my teens#was a quick chicken scratch typist... pretty fast; but I pecked#through typing a lot of messages and asks to people on here and wanting to do it quickly I stumbled on something pretty...#close to what I think they teach; though I'm pretty sure there's gotta be some differences#it's nothing formal for one thing; it's all muscle memory; the fingers go where they go#but I can type pretty fast and accurately with my eyes closed#and it's just cause... I wanted to say things to people and say it quickly#eh... I hope I kill myself soon#... it seems out of nowhere; but that's just how my brain works; this is stream of consciousness more or less so... figured I'd leave it#anyway... there whatever this is... is#mm tag so i can find things later
