I think it's a sign of good media when you have to reread or rewatch it to get the full experience. First time is for getting your brain blasted by the story and being confused second time is for knowing who's who and what's what and willingly getting your brain blasted again.

Queer books: The Locked Tomb
In honor of Pride Month, and the fact that this is technically a book blog, I bring you 31 queer books I like. Today, 1/31.
Tumblr media
First off, lesbian necromancers in space. These books are so queer. They’re science fiction with a hard dose of dark fantasy via the aforementioned necromancers. There’s a 4th book coming out sometime, which should wrap things up? And explain things? (ha. hahahahahaha ah.)
But anyway, these books are hella gay. Recommended for people who like speculative fiction, unreliable narrators, and haunted swords.

I am *SO* glad that i started reading again when i did, and that i stumbled into reading two of my new favorite series as the first thing i started to read, and that those series are both getting new installments this fall.
like I'm usually never this lucky. feels good :3
also both feature smart, teenage, traumatized bald, social dumbasses for protagonists who grew up in a cult and have a dark secret about the story of their inception and birth who fall in love with another teenage girl. and both take place in the far of future of earth and reference aspects of popular culture as in-universe relics of our "ancient" human society. idk that's just a weird parallel I'm thinking up right now
Read The Locked Tomb Series by Tamsyn Muir and Read The Mortal Engines Series by Philip Reeve!

I have started reading The Locked Tomb series after getting my book club to pick Gideon the Ninth for this month's book. I was worried that it was my Tumblr friends who had me thinking of TLT as "that lesbian necromancer series," but no, the back cover text of Gideon explicitly advertises lesbian necromancers IN SPAAAACE
Maybe next year I can get us to read The Traitor Baru Cormorant, which my Tumblr friends have me thinking of as "that lesbian war crimes series."

Remember when Harrow threatened to kill Gideon by putting bone in her food. And we were all like that's horrifying but also lol.
Then Harrow loses all sense of security and, in a panic fueled sleep deprived haze, decides that actually that sounds like a solid assassination plan. And she successfully explodes a Gideon.
It's funny but also makes me want to cry.

He said, "I guess you could say... we had beef."
When she did not laugh he said, "I can't believe nobody's ever going to laugh at my jokes again. I can't believe it. It's all gone, I'm the only one left. It's just me and you and no more jokes."
She said, "I still love you.”
And he laughed and said, "That was a good one."
Then he wept again.
Nona the Ninth page 193.

The funniest thing about this post is the belief that a Google search would make anything about the skeleton lesbians less confusing.
Every day those skeleton lesbians are on my dash beating the shit out of each other or making out or playing mario kart. I don't even know what kind of media the locked tomb is. Is it a tv series? A collection of plushies? A webcomic? A limited edition beverage with an oddly detailed lore behind it? Perchance. All of these questions and more could be solved by a simple google search, yet I kind of like having something that I have no context for - or understanding of - cross my dash occasionally. Adds a bit of spice. McGriddle and Shark? I hope they get gay married. I hope this isn't a queerbaiting situation or whatever. I hope they have lots of skeleton babies and their coffee shop continues to thrive. I hope they finally kill the onceler.
