Leola's Last Wish

The one thing that comes to my mind regarding Leola's wish is a possible explanation for why it was worded the way it was. (That's just my theory on the matter.)

Before Leola is fully taken by the darkness and erased, Aaravos holds her, assures her that he loves her, that she will go to a place filled with love, that she will always be able to feel his love for her. Leola (a child) was sad, afraid and about to be alone in the darkness. The last thing she experienced was her father's love. And based on that experience, she shapes her wish:

I wish that even in the dark

Sad Afraid Alone

that every child should know…

You Are Loved.

I love TDP so much. You physically can't be mad at any character (except karim) because they all have a reason for acting like they do. You get everyone's side of the story, and you sympathize with all of them.

But it's really about how they deal with their suffering. When Leola dies, Aaravos deals with his grief with anger, with revenge and resentment. Yet, when Harrow dies, once Ezran is ready to take on his grief, he handles it with respect and understanding, it is not the entire elf species that killed his father. Do I believe that if he wasn't forced to be king he would've handled it differently? Sure. Do I believe he would've handled it in a morally wrong and cruel way? No. Yet just because they deal with grief differently, it doesn't mean they both didn't experience the pain of it.

So even after seeing everything they've done, you can still sympathize with them. You can't even get mad at them, because you or someone in your life would handle their grief like aaravos, and someone else would handle it like Ezran. Some would handle it like Viren, cruel; yet in the end taken accountability; healed and redeemed.

The point is that no matter how mature, immature, morally correct or wrong someone handles a situation; there is a reason. There is a reason (usually) just as well as yours and they are suffering too, so try to make something of that. But just because they are suffering does not mean they shouldn't take accountability for their actions, either. You just have to see all points of view. How others hurt them, how they hurt others, and how they handle it in the very end, and why they did what they did.

I just realized that if Aaravos chose to die with Leola, they probably would've been like how Ray and Evangeline became connected stars, if my theory of Leola's remains being the South Star is correct.... 😧

Leola giving magic to humans out of curiosity, with no harmful intentions, but it nonetheless causing much pain, "the beginning of the end," etc, made me think about the myth of Pandora's box.

(it's a very well-known myth, but I'll summarize it quickly)

The olympians gave Pandora a box- and instructed her not to open it. She didn't... for a while. One day, she simply got too curious, and opened the box. By opening it, she unleashed horrors unto the world. Greed, madness, death, sorrow, etc. but there was something else in the box. Hope. (hope was released eventually, just much later.)

Obviously, all the awful things unleashed from Pandora's box can be easily tied to dark magic. Leola unintentionally released all of that into the world by "gifting" humans with magic. So many awful things happened due to that. However, something good did come out of that. That "hope," I believe, is Callum. He is hope. His magic is still human magic, sure, but that is only true because he's a human. It's not dark magic. He is the good thing to come out of Leola's last wish, hope out of Pandora's box.

Aaravos and adult Leola I love stuff like "what would happen if…". I think Leola would have partly copied her father's style. And of course she would be a great beauty.
