Method

Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker.

Shake with cracked ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

@thewriterowl aaaaand bind number 17 and 18 are finished! I decided to bind “the untimely business of an office engagement” and “Like flurries on gold” since those are both so cute and I’ve re read them so many times as a mood booster. These are quartos, basically pocketbooks, since the fics are on the shorter side for a full sized print. I tried to add as many personal elements from the story into the typesetting as well, so for the Untimely Business I had a mug of hot chocolate for the chapter headings and a pair of chopsticks for the section breaks. For Like flurries on gold I had alternating drawings of a cupcake and some ice skates, and unfortunately I could show the section breaks but they’re basically mini versions of the chapter titles haha

I also tried out French double core end bands for the first time, which I think turned out pretty nicely! I tied to play into the themes with the covers as well, so I think the fresh, lemony one worked well with Luke’s bright personality and love for baking, but I couldn’t really get the hallmark, romcom vibe for the untimely business, since I didn’t have a matching book cloth at hand, so I tried to lean into the cool, winter feeling instead.

Anyway, these were super fun to work on and I wish I could show more but alas, tumblr has a photo limit.

Luka looked up as the bedroom door opened, a smile warming his face as Marinette walked out.  She was yawning, her short hair a mess and her arms raised above her head in a sleepy stretch that pulled the hem of his old Jagged Stone shirt higher on her creamy thighs.  She hadn’t bothered putting her pants back on.  He wondered if she’d given the same courtesy to her underwear – if it was still lying on his floor, wherever he’d thrown it earlier that night.  Her arms were still above her head, hands clasped on her elbows, when she opened her eyes and caught him staring.  A lazy, sleepy smile curled her lips.

He loved that smile.  It was one of his top five favorite things in the world.

I got up this morning wanting to make lemon poppyseed muffins from scratch.

But first I found out that the lemon yogurt has frozen from being too far back in the top of the fridge. So I put the container in a bowl of water to thaw.

Then I found out we didn’t have any butter. I know I could run to the store but I’m broke, having only had 3 paychecks since the 2nd of March. I start a new job tomorrow but a paycheck 2 weeks away doesn’t buy me butter today.

But I had heavy whipping cream that needs to be used up anyway.

First I put some in a jar with a lid, with a dash of salt and an ice cube. My aging arms would have fallen off before I could shake that jar enough.

So I put that and the rest of the cream in my kitchen aid mixer and turned it up to 9. Had to cover it with a towel that I’ll now have to wash in Dawn, to keep it from splattering the whole kitchen. I got some on my shirt.

After half an hour of effort, I has fresh butter. I washed it with cold water to make it clump together and to get the milk out.

I could have gone to the store and back in that time but 1) I didn’t have to leave the house, 2) I didn’t spend any money, and 3) I kept Wolf entertained with my exploits over the phone for half an hour. DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW HARD IT IS TO DO THAT WITH 2 ADHD PEOPLE? Ok then.

I still didn’t have muffins, and I was still hungry.

By now the yogurt was thawed enough, so I zested and juiced a lemon, dug in the spice rack for poppy seeds, and then used the same mixing bowl and made the muffins. They are light and lemony and good.

Eggplant slices are roasting with salt, pepper, and a little curry mix while I wait for a few of my ingredients I don't have to arrive so I can turn it all into lasagne. Gonna be a great refrigerator meal. Lotsa veggies, some meatballs, TONS of cheese a few fresh herbs I have in the fridge so I can use them up, and a little treat for me at the end of the night doing all this cooking (the treat is lemon flavored icing because I like lemony things and it's cheap)

Anyway, the rest of the recipe is going to be easy. Layer eggplant slices, ricotta, meatballs, veggies, sauce, and cheese in a big ol casserole dish and make a lasagne that will last us several days of delicious delicious meals, including tonight with some lil extra baked cheesy balls on the side for fun and profit (I will not be making that effort for leftovers lmao)

Hopefully they'll come out the way I hope and we'll have a new recipe in rotation because I really do like eggplant, I just never know how to cook it myself. Fingers crossed this recipe is my solution.
