GM Le Sabre Concept, 1951. The Le Sabre was the brainchild of General Motors head of design Harley Earl (pictured with a model of the car). The styling was Earl’s attempt to incorporate the look of modern jet fighter aircraft into automotive design and as such it introduced aircraft-inspired design elements such as the wrap-around windshield and tail fins, which became widely used on cars during the second half of the 1950s. It was powered by an experimental supercharged aluminium 3.5 litre V8 with a rear-mounted transaxle gearbox

Learning digital drawing and decided to start with my blog’s namesake and barricade-builder extraordinaire, Feuilly! This is a redraw of a French Revolution playing card inspired by this post. More under the cut!

Based on this card which features a sans-culotte, representing “Equality of the Ranks (the people)”:

Feuilly is stomping on the coat of arms of Louis-Philippe and the boulder he leans on says ‘La Barricade de Corinthe, 5. Juin 1832’. He has a globe and a Polish flag tied to his gun. The document in front of the boulder says ‘Droits des travailleurs’ (rights of the workers) because I could not for the life of me decipher what the original says :0

Et voilà, j’ai fini le tome 2 de ces Chroniques de l’érable et du cerisier, fabuleuse saga de Camille Monceaux.

On suit Ishiro qui quitte Edo pour Osaka, avec son ami fidèle et attachant, Shin. Un troisième personnage fait irruption dans le voyage, une ninja secrète et peu aimable, mais drôlement intéressante.

Ce volume est assez différent du premier, il est beaucoup plus axé sur l’action, avec pour décor le château d’Osaka, bientôt en guerre contre le shogun d’Edo. Il y a beaucoup de combats sanglants, et ce n’était pas ma tasse de thé. Mais le livre est riche en rebondissements et en questionnements ; Ishiro veut venger son maître, et honorer la voie du sabre ; il se révèle redoutable, et trouve sa place près des samouraïs aguerris. Mais il ne comprend pas bien la violence qui l’habite parfois, et sa capacité à guerroyer, lui qui peinait à tuer un lapin lorsqu’il était enfant. Cette interrogation sur la violence, sa nécessité, m’ont paru être un contrepoint intéressant pour de jeunes lecteurs.

Bref, c’est un volume sombre, plein de violence, d’action et de mélancolie. J’ai hâte de lire le tome 3 qui semble mettre à l’honneur un personnage bien aimé disparu tout au long de ce volume, et j’espère retrouver les plages méditatives et poétiques que j’avais tant aimées dans le premier tome.
