The Disability Library
I love books, I love literature, and I love this blog, but it's only been recently that I've really been given the option to explore disabled literature, and I hate that. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to be able to read about characters like me, and now as an adult, all I want is to be able to read a book that takes us seriously.
And so, friends, Romans, countrymen, I present, a special disability and chronic illness booklist, compiled by myself and through the contributions of wonderful members from this site!
As always, if there are any at all that you want me to add, please just say. I'm always looking for more!
Edit 20/10/2023: You can now suggest books using the google form at the bottom!

DOOMSDAY.
date: 13th february 2024 || time: 11:31pm
‘Joder, hermosa.’ The man groaned, the tight sensation against his cock causing his muscles to tremble, bucking his hips in a stable rhythm. ‘You feel increíble around me.’
‘Getting so close, Nando.’ She whined, her fingers gripping his ruffled hair with more force, trying to bring more pleasure to her body; enough to let the sensations consume her.
‘Mmm, Mads.’ He hummed at the tugging of her hands, pressing their frames closer, the woman almost able to feel the warm breath that escaped his lips, panting heavily with both lust and exhaustion.
‘I love you so much, Fernando.’ Her mouth moves towards his ears, whispering serenades of praises, the few words sounding like music to him, able to listen to her soft mumbles for eternity.
‘I love you too, mi vida.’ He chuckles, both of them now relaxing after the sheer adrenaline that pumped through the couple’s veins as they reached their highs. ‘Don’t know how I’d survive without you.’
‘I’m not leaving, not just yet.’ Maddeline giggles, nuzzling her now marked neck into his bare chest, allowing her muscles to rest after the romantic session, smiling at the heat that radiated from his skin.
As the two eventually began to drift off into a tranquil state, the sudden blare of sirens started to surround the once calm environment, immediately creating a sense of danger.
‘What was that?’ Her eyes blurted open, alarmed by the loud noise ringing in her ears, concerned about what was happening.
‘Don’t worry, cariño. You stay here, I’ll sort it out.’ Her husband reassured, planting a soft kiss on her forehead to promise their safety, the man climbing out of bed to wear something appropriate for the serious situation occuring.
Desperate to sort the issue so he could go back to his wife, Fernando slams the door open, marching down the elegant hallways as if he was on a mission, phone firmly gripped in his fingertips. ‘Carlos, get ready. Business to attend to.’ He declared, gaining as many forces as possible. The alarms were only triggered by something drastic, but Maddeline didn’t need to know that.
The angered man continued storming through the house, the device originally grasped replaced for a gun, loaded and prepared to fire if necessary.
‘Ready?’ Fernando makes his way to the entrance, added forces waiting for him to announce the attack on the intruders outside.
‘We’re ready, jefe.’ Carlos replied, weapon firmly gripped in his palms, holding it up towards his eye, able to get a perfect shot if bullets immediately began firing.
The blinding headlights shone as they exited the house, blocking the view of who was actually there unless they approached further.
‘Fernando Alonso.’ A somewhat familiar voice spoke, a stern tone prominent in his voice, whoever it was here was for business purposes only.
‘I’d recognise that Australian accent from anywhere, you’re one of Webbers.’ The group moved cautiously, trying to see the faces that they could only perceive through their speech.
Adjusting to the harsh light, a younger, brunette man leaned on his car, practically staring down the boss in the centre, un-phased by who he was sending daggers towards.
‘Oscar Webber-Piastri.’ Fernando eventually recognised him, unable to not remember the same sarcastic and unbothered personality the boy seemed to cherish. ‘Where’s your daddy?’ He asked, the delightful presence of his father sadly not present in this feud.
‘My dad is not here, sorting out other important duties, you know, actual necessities.’ Oscar huffed, annoyed at the older man’s childish remark, despite being 23.
‘So what are you doing here? Daddy send you to do his dirty business?’ He snickered back, maybe if he could get into the fragile boy’s mind he would be less defensive when the weapons began firing.
‘No, my dad sent me to cause some damage.’ Still emphasising that Mark was not his ‘daddy’, the enemy smiled, a wicked glint in his supposed innocent-appearing eyes.
‘Then what are you waiting for, huh?’ Fernando teased, waiting for the boy to actually make a move instead of standing there and attempting to intimidate him. ‘Do you even know how to use that little toy you like to call a gun-’
*BANG*
‘CHECO!’ The loud screams of Alejandra’s filled the atmosphere as the bullet ripped through the man’s skull, the explosion sending blood everywhere as he fell dramatically to the floor.
‘Told you I knew how to use it, old man.’ Oscar smirked, proud of his accomplishment. ‘I said I was here to cause damage, and I think I’ve already caused a bit of commotion.’
‘Fuck you, you’re asking for it now, cabrón.’ The man seethed, anger fuelling his muscles as his arms jerked up, pressing the trigger on the pistol, beginning the shower of gunfire.
Bullets flew across the two groups, most hiding behind any shelter they could discover to protect themselves, not wanting their last moment to be this very scene.
‘Shit.’ Alejandra cursed, the soaring metal basically skimming her body as she ducked behind one of the cars, scouring the surroundings every so often to check if any enemies could be nearby.
‘Looking for me, darling?’ The voice boomed, the girl’s eyes widening in fear as she recognised the same Australian accent that made people shiver, the person who just murdered one of her father’s loyal workers in cold blood, unable to show a slight indication of remorse.
‘You gonna shoot me too, Piastri?’ She challenged, anger clearly prominent in her voice as she glared at the armed man.
‘Maybe.’ Oscar debated, moving the gun closer to the girl, aiming directly at her forehead.
‘You shoot me and I’ll shoot you. Seems pretty fair.’ The woman added, similarly moving her weapon to a vulnerable area, one click and he would drop dead. ‘You’re not going to, are you? You won’t as much as you might want to.’ Alejandra continued to tease, inheriting the same manipulative skills as her father.
‘Don’t worry, I will eventually.’ His eyes squint, rage consuming his pupils, visibly angered by her attitude that she couldn’t help but smirk at the effect she had on the boy.
*BANG*
All heads swiftly turned to the slamming of the entrance door, an older man storming out.
‘Mark Webber.’ Fernando remained shocked, wondering how weak his security must’ve been to allow the mafia boss to waltz into his home so easily. The house where his wife is sleeping peacefully.
‘Fernando Alonso, it’s been a while.’ Mark greeted, being a long time since he paid the Spaniard a very welcoming visit. ‘Sadly I can’t stay long, my work here is done.’ He almost pouts at the situation, heading back towards the cars. ‘Oscar, come on.’
‘You got lucky, darling.’ He removed the weapon from her head, appearing dissapointed that he was not able to cause any more wreckage.
‘Your wife says hello.’ Mark snickered as he entered the parked vehicle, and that was finally the breaking point.
‘MADDELINE!’ The husband’s voice echoed around the house, desperate for some sort of signal that she was safe, and that all that Mark had spoke was just some scare to make the man weak.
But that theory all came crashing down when he walked into the bedroom. There she lay, once sleeping peacefully for the night. Now resting forever in a pool of her own crimson fluids.
‘Máma?’ Alejandra peeked through before immediately turning away, a slight sickening taste building up in her throat. Usually it would not phase her, but seeing her own mother in that state broke her.
‘Hey, come here tesoro.’ Carlos comforted, wrapping his arms around her as she dipped her head in his chest, allowing the tears to flow down her face, attempting to block out the scene before her.
‘Don’t worry mi vida.’ Fernando was overwhelmed by the crushing feeling of grief in his heart, but it was slowly developing to an enraged desire.
‘I’ll get my revenge for you.’

Note
what kinds of things did you read while you were learning spanish? any reccs for early intermediate level?
It was actually a lot of YA stuff. At my school's library there were a lot of things in Spanish, like the Spanish version of Goosebumps books, or at the time Harry Potter and Percy Jackson were really popular
But I was recommended to try to read things set in the first person because it often used yo forms and especially present and preterite irregulars would show up a lot
I also was reading things I should not have been trying to read at my level, like it took me a really long time but I read Don Quixote before I considered myself fluent and that was a struggle
But in class we read La Casa en Mango Street and Esperanza renace. I later had to reread House on Mango Street in college for Spanish literature classes so it was nice to revist it
Me personally I have a lot of things written by Laura Gallego on my reading list. I also like horror so I have some Spanish versions of Grady Hendrix books, and a few comic books in Spanish. Sometimes big fancy literature is hard for me to get into.

Laisser sa partenaire choisir son cavalier... ;
La laisser être dirigée... ;
Plus tard avec Ana j’ai pu ainsi beaucoup apprécier de temps à autres de partager et de sucer une belle bite ;
de me faire prendre par un doigt, un godemichet ou même un gode-ceinture ( je voulais réellement savoir et discuter avec elle et son amie qui me prenaient tout à tour, ce qu’elles ressentaient et ce que cela transformait, transportait comme sentiments, émotions, ressentis physiques et autres ressorts psychologiques chez elles...J’en appris beaucoup sur les femmes et leurs désirs de masculinité assez souvent subconscient mais aussi souvent bien présent...) ;

Cyberchase Character Discussion (for your local Cyberchase trivia quiz) - #1: Inez
Since I have been archiving data from the Cyberchase section of the old pbskids.org website for the FlashPoint Archive Project lately, I thought should share some content I have dug up, particularly information that was provided on the different characters. Much of the information is no longer on the site. While much of it is available in the FlashPoint Archive Project now, and I would consider the project easy to look into and setup, not everyone will take the time to do so. #1: Inez I figure the best place to start is with her official "Meet the Cybersquad" character bio from back in the day. This was placed on the pbskids.org website way back in 2001, before the series initially started airing in 2002. This is no longer on the pbskids.org site, so I can't promise that it is still canon.
So, we start off learning that Inez is the youngest of the group, at nine years old. We never see the kids in school together, but I would not be surprised if Inez jumped forward a grade or two. The page emphasizes her curiosity. Now, would you call the parkway vs. driveway thing pedantic? For me: no comment.
Tumblr media
The second page tells us that her favorite color is purple, her favorite food are popcorn and mangoes, and her favorite book in "By the Shores of Silver Lake", by Laura Ingalls Wilder. That is part of Wilder's autobiographical "Little House on the Prarie" series, with this particular book being published in 1939. I know its a classic that has been republished numerous times, but I do find it interesting that she went for such an old book. Her favorite music is by Mac Anthony. The page doesn't mention specific genres, and Marc Anthony has done several different genres over the years. I don't know his discography very well, but it looks like he was best known for Latin Salsa in the late 1990s and early 2000s, so that's probably her favorite music genre overall.
Tumblr media
The third page tells us that her favorite move is "Harry Potter", as she loves Hermione Granger. Because this bio came out in 2001, only Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone would have been released as a movie at the time.
Her pet peeves are listed as heights, bad sportsmanship, and whenever Matt calls her "Nezzie". According to TVTropes, she did conquer her fear of heights by the time The Cyberchase Movie came out. She has one pet, her cat, Gatito. We do see Gatito in a few episodes of the show.
Tumblr media
Now, there's something odd about Inez's design on the "Meet the Cybersquad" page. The star on her shirt is purple, as opposed to the yellow we got in the show. I'm not sure how this happened, as Inez had the yellow star as far back as the 1999 pilot.
Tumblr media
This reminds me of another piece of trivia. During Season 4 Episode 2 "The Icky Factor", the kids get wetsuits for the first time, as they need to swim around Aquari-yum. They had already been to Aquari-yum twice by this point. However, they stayed in the sub the whole time during Season 1 Episode 16 "Codename Icky". Then, during Season 3 Episode 6 "The Grapes of Plath", they just wore their regular clothes with a bubble helmet to walk around the bottom of the bowl.
Look at their wetsuits. Matt gets plain blue wetsuit, Jackie gets a plain yellow wetsuit, and Digit gets a plain orange wetsuit. Inez gets a green wetsuit with a yellow star on the front and a purple vest. I like this detail. It's about as close to matching her color scheme as they could get without making the top half of the wetsuit pink, which would have just been weird. Maybe a full pink wetsuit would have been a little better? I don't know. If they did that, she would be missing out on the green from her shorts
Tumblr media
Anyway, the next piece to look at is this page from Cyberchase: How It All Started: Webisode 3. This was an official prequel web comic that come out before the show started airing, so its a little off. I promise that this is the original image without any edits.
https://web.archive.org/web/20080610025304/http://pbskids.org/cyberchase/webisode_3/7.html
Tumblr media
They got her skin-tone and hair color very wrong, as they showed her as white with red hair. The lenses on her glasses aren't as opaque. They did get the yellow star right this time, but I would consider her skin tone to be far more important. I would love to hear the story of how this mix-up happened. You know what? I'll add my attempt at fixing their mistake below, based on skin, hair, and glasses colors picked from "Meet the Cybersquad". I don't have much GIMP experience, but I think I did a pretty good job.
Tumblr media
Anyway, the main reason I brought this image up was that she is noted as being a computer whiz who loves to go on the Internet. As far as I remember, she never uses her computer skills in the show, probably because they played it so fast and loose with the terminology.
So, that first image only showed her from the waist-up, but we do get a shot of her riding her bike to the library to meet her new friends and start the first episode. They did it again.
https://web.archive.org/web/20080607121655/http://pbskids.org/cyberchase/webisode_3/8.html
Tumblr media
I honestly wouldn't care if it was just the shirt, vest, or shorts being the wrong color. Alright, I have added a color-corrected version below.
Tumblr media
The second page gives us "Oh no, this is not good at all!" That is the prototype for her iconic phrase: "This is not good! This is not good at all!".
Did you know that on her way to the library, Inez road her bike all over town to run other errands? She went to Betty's House, the Post Office, and the Video (VHS) store before arriving at the library just in time to make some new friends and upload her mind into the Internet.
Tumblr media
As far as character trivia goes, Cyberchase did have official printable trading cards. Here's the one for Nezzie. I love this card. One of her favorite things is E-mail. Her other favorite things include experiments and big words, but we all knew that already. They picked a more optimistic, but less iconic, favorite line for her with, "Hey, I've got an idea!" rather than "This is not good! This is not good at all!". She is great at basketball, which may be surprising to some, given her height. We'll come back to that. She is also great at reading, standing up for herself, and singing. We do get to hear her sing "Brahm's Lullaby" in Spanish for Chewcrocca's baby during Season 3 Episode 1 "EcoHaven CSE".
Tumblr media
I can think of two pieces of official Cyberchase media related to Basketball. There was Season 6 Episode 7 "Jimaya Jam", which had a sport of the same name, except it took away dribbling. However, Inez was actually separated from the group at the time, with Creech taking over her role during the Jimaya Jam game. Presumably, Inez was just too powerful.
The second piece is from the singular Cyberchae chapter book, "The Search for the Power Orb". The story actually starts with Inez playing basketball against Matt. She is frustrated that he is able to block her shots due to his clear height advantage, and his teasing about her height doesn't help. Towards the end of the story, they retrieve the titular Power Orb, which is roughly the size of a basketball. It needs to go back into its basket to save Cybersite Serentia from complete deletion. Inez is able to use her short stature to run between The Hacker's legs, get a boost from Izzy, and slam dunk the Power Orb.
Tumblr media
What else? I found this early concept art on the Cyberchase wiki. It seems like the biggest change was the style for her boots.
Tumblr media
There is also this write-up from a "Who's Who" document. I don't know whether this was always available to the public, or if this was an internal document when they were developing and pitching the show. It doesn't add too much information to what I already posted, but it does state their intent to make her a tomboy, and it talks about her tendency to giggle, give inspirational quotes and stand on her head.
Tumblr media
I figure no Inez compilation is complete without her standing on her head at some point. Here she is in Season 2 Episode 12 "The Guilty Party" flinging herself out of a handstand, twisting around, and landing on her feet.

Hi Laurie! Very important ice cream questions are delievered right to your doorstep:
For your top 3 favourite characters at the moment: What is their favourite ice cream? Do they like to try new flavours or do they stick to the classics? Best occasion to eat it and best way to eat it? Coup, cone, fancy cone, out of the tub?
Kisses, love and spaghetti ice cream for you, byeeee 💖🍝
thank you for exposing my poor knowledge of ice cream flavours (i'm a simple girl, i like my soft serve vanilla & chocolate swirl). i have about 8 tabs open of lists of popular flavours, i'm putting in all the work and research because this is an important question! thank you for sending it back to me! i'm craving ice cream now! 💖🍦
divider credits: @/firefly-graphics (i've always wanted to use this cute ice cream truck divider, thank you for giving me the best opportunity to use it!)
Tumblr media
RUSTY SABICH
cherry something. ben & jerry's cherry garcia, cherry cheesecake, just cherry related ice cream. or a very good quality vanilla bean ice cream, the one with tons of vanilla specks in it. he has his designated bowl in the cupboards, he never waits enough for the ice cream to chill a bit so it's always too hard and he always gets frustrated when he scrapes some off the top and it goes flying on his face. rusty is not known for his patience. i think barbara would appreciate pistachio or a good dark chocolate ice cream, so he steals some from hers but he never tells her. he mostly eats ice cream at home, sitting in the couch with his family or in the sun room on a rainy day that prevented him to go out for a swim.
i love how we both agree on the fact cherry ice cream is for cheaters (he probably genuinely enjoys maraschino cherries, there's truly something wrong with that man). yeah of course he's my top current fave character right now because i'm pathetic just like him. sigh.
ELWOOD DALTON
sorbet, specifically mango. i don't know what kind of fruits grow in the florida keys. if the university of florida says mango can grow in the keys, then mango can grow in the keys. i think coup is best with sorbet and i believe dalton would love to stick to the pure flavours of the fruit (similar to the dark cuban coffee), but he secretly likes to pick the tiny colourful plastic scoop that matches the funky shirt he is wearing.
i don't see dalton as much of a dessert guy anyway, he doesn't go out of his way to get some but he'll happily eat whatever dessert you buy or bake for him. i like to think that laura invited him to go out for ice cream the same way she offered him a ride and he said no the first time but then she teased him the next day about how yummy the ice cream was and then he was like :) okay :) and she invited him again and he accepted (this time it was only the two of them) and he had mango sorbet, he didn't really care what he was getting anyway. laura probably told him it was good, fresh local fruit and everything, and it became his favourite after the first bite. mostly because she seemed happy he liked her suggestion. he's very nice and charming with the workers so he always gets an upscale, whether it be an extra scoop or he gets offered the large size even if he paid for the small.
TOMMY CAHILL
cookie dough or cookies and cream. he's definitely the most likely out of this list to try new flavours, he just wants to try them all at least once in his life. these two are his favourite. if he's out and about, stopped at an ice cream truck or a proper creamery, he gets the normal sugar cone (with extra napkins, he always makes a mess). he can go for a dipped cone as well if he's feeling fancy. if he's eating at home, he definitely stirs his ice cream until it turns into a milkshake.
most of his ice cream related memories involve his nieces, isabelle and maggie. he takes them out for a swim at the pool or out at the park where he pushes their swings extra high (in the safest way possible) or even goes down the slide with them and their reward is an all you can eat ice cream buffet aka one cup they can fill with whatever toppings they want. grace and sam absolutely hate him for it, he brings back two hyper kiddos on a sugar high but tommy is just happy to have fulfilled his uncle duties. he made it into some kind of game as to who can make the craziest concoction. the kids would go for gummy bears with strawberry ice cream and sprinkles convinced that they won the contest, but then tommy would show up with a mountain of crushed oreos, mini m&ms, choco chips, drizzled with all the sauces they had and he would easily win. he'd get sick afterwards (probably because the girls ended up sharing his ice cream and he had to eat theirs instead) but it would be their favourite way to celebrate the end of summertime before school starts again.
DANNY SHARP (bonus teehee)
salted caramel. waffle cone. topped with a waffle cookie on top. danny strikes me as a caramel syrup person for some reason, so he probably asks for extra drizzle of it on top when he needs an even bigger pick me up. he has to eat it in secret, go to the creamery alone, so he doesn't hear castro begging to tag along (he will go out for ice cream with castro every once in a while and he will pay for his three scoops sugar extravaganza and he will complain about it although he secretly likes to make his employee/friend/flamingo zookeeper happy).
my first thought was neapolitan because he wouldn't need to choose so he could have a bit of all flavours (less anxiety inducing). that was probably his favourite as a kid, he could share with will and let his brother have his fave flavour. my second thought was distinguished ice cream to enjoy while wearing a cashmere sweater so that's why i switched my answer.

A little introduction into a fanfiction that I'll try to continue and finish. I hope you like it. It's based on Deadpool and Wolverine (only on that, not the whole franchise).
I'm sorry for any spelling mistakes, english isn't my first language :(
CHAPTER 1
"Children of stars, that's what we are"
The air was hot, thick and carried a sweet scent of fruit. Oh, to be fruit, to be rotten and still as sweet as ever, to still be desired at your worst. To be even sweeter than the prettiest of flowers. To rot with a purpose...
Weird things come to humans' minds when they're high, music blasting into their ears and while cooking something they have no idea how to cook actually. The same thing was happening to Alice. Her mind was elsewhere as her body was desperately clinging into this reality, such a funny combination. But here she was, peeling apart a pomegranate, while the mango cubes were sizzling on one of the pans. Music blaring into her ears, louder than her mind. A moment of relief. The chaos of thoughts stopped for a second, letting her take a breath without a fear of causing another outburst of voices. Having to reach for a joint wasn't on her to-do list for today, that's for sure, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
As her hands got covered in red, sticky juice while carefully peeling the fruit apart, her mind somehow managed to focus on the scene. The air was hot and heavy, filled with the weight of the upcoming storm, sticky with humidity, not even the AC could fight that. Filled with the smell of fruits spread out on the counter, the sizzling mango and freshly cut open pomegranate, of lemons resting nearby waiting to be used. It was rotten, but in that sweet way, filling her lungs with sticky sweetness, making it hard to breathe sometimes...
"Hi Allie, what ya doin'?!"
She jumped in place, suddenly pulled out from her focus. Turning around and taking one earbud out to face Wade. All happy and excited. Did that man even have a different setting?
"Cooking. Don't scare me like that when I have a knife in hand."
"Afraid I might like it?"
"Sometimes I forget you're completely insane."
She muttered, turning back and peeling the fruit apart, in the meantime turning the heat off under the mango so it wouldn't burn. She was peeling the fruit apart gently, each section. Juice staining her hands red but the seeds weren't flying around, she was careful with it, after all cleaning the whole kitchen like it was a murder scene wasn’t really in her plans or tonight. Her mind felt a bit hazy again as she shook the open fruit over the bowl to empty it at least a bit.
“You were smoking again, weren’t you?” he asked with a serious tone in his voice.
“It got loud again. I needed a way out, before I end up like you.”
“You don’t need to be rude to me all the time. you know? Second, you mean the voices?”
“Sorry,” it was sincere, “I told you I don’t like it when you call it the voices. They’re much more than that, unfortunately. Or it is much more to be precise. It’s only my voice, speaking over and over again, and I can’t silence it. So I am willing to sacrifice a bit of my health to not go mental.”
“Fair. But maybe find a different way? It’ll end you…”
“Oh well…” she said with a simple shrug of her shoulders “I guess I’ll head out for a walk then.”
“High?”
“Yeah. If something happens, I’ll call you or Logan. Or Laura. I guess she’s the most responsible out of you three.”
“Rude again.”
“Bu-bu-boo”
“You spend too much time with Logan.”
She rolled her eyes at that with a hint of a smile on her face. Alice finished preparing the fruits and cleaned up the mess she made. She felt Wade watch over her as she prepared to leave. Sure, everything around was a bit blurred and shushed to some point, making the world a bit more bearable. She put the earphones back in, took her phone and just left the flat, sinking into the music playing in her ears, breathing in the heavy air, this time filling it with the unpleasant scent of the city, instead of fruits. Ugh, such a shame, that going on walks is connected to leaving such a perfect environment for something so disappointing.
But how did it happen that she knew the mighty Wolverine and not so mighty Deadpool? It was probably one of the fate cruel jokes that led to it. In short, being abandoned by your family can lead to meeting two people that are sort of like heroes and then them ‘adopting’ you. She didn’t regret that, but for now her mind was letting those memories slip away, her feet carrying her to her usual spot. Cassandra Nova… It was in her mind again. That topic of someone who almost destroyed the whole multiverse, someone so crazily powerful that got defeated by them. Why was she coming back to it? Why ever since hearing that story, her mind was wandering over to that person? To that stuck up, bald, void princess as Wade sometimes called her? Maybe, just maybe, it was about the fact that Alice was also a telepath. Not near as powerful as Cassandra, but sure she understood the pain and complications of being one. Or so she liked to believe that she did. After all it was possible that everyone had it differently and maybe she was the only one suffering from too many thoughts in her head at the same time.
She walked ahead of herself, her eyes stuck on the invisible horizon, hidden behind many buildings. It was a long walk to her favorite thinking place, she turned up the volume of her earphones, feeling almost like the song was now coursing through her veins, washing out any noise. Outside and inside. She felt the urge to just run, to chase the invisible sun, to see it set once more, to see hope disappear into the void of darkness just to reappear in the morning. Her heart beating faster, her lungs chasing after it, soon she was in motion against herself, picking up speed with each step, like she was escaping the feeling of insanity. To leave it all behind means to be free.
She ran for long, her red hair many times ending up in her eyes. She should touch up the roots though, they were already showing and that wasn’t good. Her lungs and throat filled with the burning sensation, she slowed down when finally reaching the bridge. It was as busy as ever but luckily with just cars, it was comfier when there were no people walking around and getting in her way. In the way of her small ritual.
She walked down to it, slowing her breath and following the pavement by the side of the road, watching the golden ray slowly disappear in the dark waters. One by one making the air and earth colder with each passing moment. When she reached about the middle of the bridge, she slowly pulled herself up to sit on the railing, her back to the sun. Watching the passing cars. Her mind is getting louder, not even music silencing it anymore. So the effects are wearing off. Such a shame. How long has she been running for? It’s a big distance. Few nice kilometers. Oh well, not like it was really that important right now.
She looked down on her hands, holding the railing tightly, she slowly let herself bend backwards as the last rays of sun sank into the waters. It was ironic that this was comforting. She was scared of heights and couldn’t swim, yet almost dangling over such a vast void was comforting, the thrill of being near death, the feeling of freedom mixing with adrenaline with each breath she took. The lights on the bridge were still off, so she could see the sky get painted with more and more stars each moment.
She looked up at the sky above her, a smile spreading on her lips on its own, her eyes filling with tears caused by the cold wind. Cassandra Nova… She came to her mind again. But why? Could she really be gone? Could a powerful being like that vanish from the Earth plane forever? With no trace left? Was it really the end of the story? Was it really that simple? Or maybe she was somewhere out there in the stars still? Reaching out to an open mind? Was it possible?
“If he was Xavier… Why were you Nova? Was it to be different? To not be seen as him? Maybe it was like a supernova? Or hypernova? Powerful event only some chosen by fate people will ever witness. To be significant, to fall under your own weight and desires. Was it all what you were meant to be? Power that collapses due to its own fault?”
Alice asked more herself than anyone else, her words barely a whisper carried on by the wind. She closed her eyes, sinking into the darkness of her own mind. To soft tones of music piercing it every now and then. On night like that, she was unable to calm her mind, to silence it and not come back to a topic that should be gone from it for a long time now.
“And if you were a telepath like me… Did you struggle the same? Was there a way to silence your thoughts? Or were you just left to be consumed by the void of your mind?”
