@archduchessgortash tagged me for the last line i wrote, so here it is, from a regency-ish betrothal fic between an oc and josephine montilyet dragon age that i will never finish and wrote purely out of spite lmfao.

(and yes, it's two sentences, but the very last one is three words of dialogue, so i don't really count that)

She stands there, smile as radiant as the sun, eyes sparkling like stars against a new moon, and when she speaks there is a melting sweetness that curls around her words. “Careful, my lady.”

heyyo! so this has been about a week in tge making and i apologize for not posting sooner. between working full time, doing remedial physics lessons in preparation for my upcoming semester, and my grandpa’s failing health i haven’t had much time to participate in tag wars. but things are starting to calm down a little so i’m finally doing the thing!

these excerpts are from the final installment (ch.3) of Myth, the ficlet i wrote for weyler week 2023. just a fair warning to my readers, this chapter will have multiple trigger warnings/alerts so please beware of that when it is released.

FIRST SENTENCE:

He was screaming in his sleep. Tyler. He had been plagued with night terrors and sorrowful dreams since our first meeting and every night was a war waged. But he had never screamed before. He would groan. Cry. I had heard him whimpering in a fit of tears twice. But they were never screams.

The doctor told me to let him work through it. That by interferring I could stunt Tyler’s progress or make things worse. So there I laid, useless and desolated as I watched my love suffer through the night—crying out for help. Help I could not give him. And every tear shed was a broken shard of glass plunged through my heart; twisted with vindictive glee by the monster that tormented Tyler as if it were mocking me.

LAST SENTENCE

I sensed Tyler behind me before I heard or felt him as he pressed into me from the back, gently pinning me against the countertop next to the fridge. He had always been the one to wake up early to make us breakfast so I decided to spoil him this morning. To wake him up with breakfast in bed while wearing his favorite flannel. I did not know what to say to ease the agony he had endured in his sleep.

What words could be said to heal wounds when I did not know the root cause of the trauma inflicting them?

So rather I spoke to him through physical touch. It was how we both communicated—Tyler and I—when words were lost and emotions ran high. I would crawl into his lap in silence on the couch whenever work had me exceptionally miffed and Tyler would seek out my kiss and embrace, much like he did now as I bloomed beneath his knowledgable hands that were already so acquainted with my body they masters of decoding enigmatics.

“So this is where you snuck off to,” Tyler purred, his voice deep and rough from sleep. I bit back a moan but faltered with a gasp as one hand soared under and up the flannel to toy with my breast while his other dipped down to slowly—lovingly—torment my clitoris with lazy firm circular motions. “Just my flannel and no underwear?” he said with a smug smile and bite to the back of my neck. “What’s the occasion Tink?”

Cheating a little since this is from an outline, but here you go:

Can I just say that one of my favorite parts of the 457-dynamic in fandom is that usually In-ho’s big bad nefarious evil plan to convince Gi-hun to join his side is — to show that he loves him? That’s it. No frills, no nothing. He just worships the ground Gi-hun walks on.

And here’s the best part.

It works. Gi-hun is not a protagonist who’s above it all. He doesn’t turn his nose up at it. Even when he rejects In-ho, it’s not about whether he’s tempted or not, it’s about him being opposed to In-ho’s ideology. The man, for all his kindness, for all the way he freely gives affection, has probably never been treated like he’s worth something in his life. He’s so touch-starved, love-starved — that actually yeah, being in love with him is a strategy that works.

And the way it’s practically canon too. For example the part where In-ho slipped up and called Gi-hun by his name:

Do you know you’ve known this man for two days Gi-hun? Do you know you’re third-wheeling a room of four-hundred people? Oh my god get it together!

Honestly it’s downright diabolical. They are soulmate-coded and I eat it up.

"Dude, are you checking fucking rugby scores on your phone right now?" Rex hisses under his breath, quietly enough not to draw attention to themselves. Cody glances sidelong at his brother and shrugs, unashamed. This wedding has been dull as shit so far, and they'd only had to attend the reception. The speeches had all been incredibly scripted and unremarkable, without even any real teasing or embarrassing anecdotes for entertainment (and Cody can hazard a few guesses why, considering the stern-looking old man that seems to be lording over the whole event and stared down anyone that happened to be holding the microphone at any given moment), and the food is…well. Cody's sure it was expensive. Their family takes up most of one table just by themselves, thankfully—he can't even imagine the sort of mind-numbing bullshit most of the guests here are willing to talk about—but even his brothers aren't enough to change the fact that he feels like he's watching paint dry. Especially when they've all been threatened into "good behavior". "If I get any more bored," he mutters back, "I might actually let Buir set me up with an alpha just for something to do." Rex scowls, his entire face screwing up with disgust. "Gross, man," he grumbles. He peers over at Cody's phone where Cody's holding it half-hidden under the table. "Who's winning?"

Hang in there Cody, don't worry, this wedding is about to get a whole lot more interesting and a whole lot more fun for you 😏😏

I remember, quite clearly, being a child when I witnessed my first possession by an unseelie fae. I was eight. Just barely though. But still eight when I watched one of the girls at the slumber party I was attending begin to convulse in her sleep. Her parents claimed it was epilepsy. That seizures had made her speak in a tongue that was gibberish to all others but me. Seizures that made her eyes go black and skin turn ashen pale.

Emma Waters died that night.

A week later there was a memorial service held at our school. The attending pastor gave his sermon--I hardly remember a word of it now as a young adult. However, it was a passage in the hymn a church elder's wife sang that has remained with me.

When God is gone and the Devil takes hold, who'll have mercy on my soul?

"Conversations with Death" or "O' Death" was the hymn. A rather morbid choice considering the audience. And a peculiar decision when one thought about our location--the song being from the Appalachian region while we were solidly placed in Southern California.

But death hadn't spared Emma that night and it wasn't the devil that had taken hold of her.
