This scene makes me see How Young zor el (kara's father) looks Compared to Clark's parents, even though apparently in this universe he and Kara would be the same age

Okay so I've been thinking about this for a while. So back in the 80's John Byrne overhauled the Superman origin story to come up with the concept of Krypton as this cold, technologically-driven planet--and this was partially so that the ship Superman arrived on earth in was an artificial womb so that he would kind of, technically, be 'born' on Earth (which honesty cuts into a lot of the pathos of Krypton and Lara and Jor as parents and also cuts into the 'Superman as immigrant' narrative which we've come to love so much). And this did end up influencing Superman lore because, hey, Krypton as a technologically-driven society that is deeply flawed but also convinced of its own perfection is still really interesting.
Cut to Snyder making 'Man of Steel' in 2013 where he asserts that Kal-El is the first "natural" birth on Krypton in centuries. So basically because Snyder wanted to work in more of his Christ metaphor for Superman ("His birth is a HUUUUGE DEEAL"), you end up back with the lore that yes, Kal-El was a (born) baby when he got put in his rocket and thus it's back to an immigrant narrative.
Anyway, ANYWAY, my point is, even though both these writers were working from a weird conservative place that fundamentally misunderstands major points of Superman's character (In Byrne's case, Superman as an immigrant, and in Snyder's case, Superman as Jewish/Space Moses) it has resulted in what may be my favorite implication of Superman Lore: That Jor-El and Lara were considered pervert freaks for having a baby the old-fashioned way. If Krypton never blew up, Kal-El would have grown up relentlessly bullied, like "That's Kal-El, his parents had him by having sex, without input from the proper committees, he came out of a vagina, what a freak."
Sidenote but I'm actually really enjoying the "House of El" YA graphic novels right now, because it's basically Lara and Jor going, "The only way to save Krypton is by inflicting ADHD on random teenagers."

Spoilers for Absolute Superman #3
Tumblr media
Okay, so this issue kinda implies that the other kriptonians have escaped in the spacecraft Lara and Jor-el build (they didn't show us, so not sure yet). And because both Martha and Lara say the same thing ("sweet angel boy"), this makes us assume that Martha is, in fact, Lara. The Kent family is a disguise for House of El.
But why is Martha so old when Kal looks so young?
My guess is that the spacecraft needed pilots while the rest of the refugees (who were majoritarily farmers) were put in some kind of cryosleep. And since they were the only ones who build it and knew how to pilot, the job couldn't be done by anyone else. So they stayed awake, making sure they would arrive in a planet where they could live.

Stepping back from Clark's perspective. I bet the Kents wondered about this meeting all the time. Jonathan and Martha probably thought about Clark's birth parents a lot. Couldn't help it. Every time he struggled or felt different they would have wondered if he would have been better with his "real" parents Jor El and Lara would have probably only seen these two humans who gave their baby a home, a name, and love. Clark and the Suneater bit
First of all, the Suneater opens his face (?) and wags his little tail when he hears Kal. Obviusly he has bonded with the little guy to the point he is able to hand feed him is just so cute. Then he pets it. Literal friend shape.
Then the most interesting bit happens. When Clark and Lara are talkig he express his feelings about wanting to comunicate with the suneater to learn more about him or to make him feel less lonely.
In one hand it parallels his situation. He is also a little guy how whats to comunicate/bond whith others and wishes others to make him feel at home or at least less lonly. Both of them are also the last of their respective species
In the other hand it shows his rol as a scientist. And why he looks kind of ashamed when he tells Lois he is not a warrior . Of course he is part of an empire and all of that but the empire also needs scientist and reaserchers. If you only have people who think they are the best at everything then they will discard reaserch made by others.
They might not be as important as the warriors but the empire has a way to make use of the kindness of its members.
Like just imagine if Kal gets to befriend the suneater. The empire will use his findings to turn it into a weapon. I guess the empire just kill the entire species off or they were already not many of them Who knows im not a suneater expert. But there is alot to think about that section of the episode. May write a fanfic.

This issue was very good, but like 30% of it was Clark doing "They don't know they are going to Explode."
