Re-watching the first scenes of the first episode and what I noticed is that when Colin returns Penelope just avoids him, even though with her he is himself.

So he got frustrated and when he chased her out of the ball he tries to charm her in the way he had learn to pose with his new persona.

Penelope is NOT BUYING IT ...AND THEN Colin uses the same fake charm he used to every lady since he came back to PEN.

He says...I missed you, but it is with a sly look, with pride, charm and smile and yes he feels it but he is delivering it with a shallow way.

When Penelope asked "You missed me?"

His look is ...yeah I got her.

Only he does not because Penelope is not like everyone else.

AND THEN IS WHEN SHE SNAPS AT HIM... and it was the push she needed to actually tell him she heard him at her mom's ball saying he would never court her.

And in all those interactions PENELOPE READ HIM SO WELL that while what she wrote in Whistledown is something she later regretted (because Colin came back and was honest and real with her without using his new little tricks) it does not make it any less true.

Like Penelope SEES HIM. She is the only who actually SAW through his bullshit and did not even have to try to guess why he was doing it like the rest of his family did.

And Colin lashing out about how he will ruin LW because of what she wrote about Marina and Eloise is also bullshit.

Penelope struck a nerve with what she wrote because ultimately it was so true that Colin could not believe that someone could see through him so clearly and expose his most inner insecurities like that.

And IF Whistledown writes gossip in that moment Colin could only wonder if what he was doing was actually wrong and the Ton gossiped about it behind his back.

Colin got hurt in the previous two seasons and tried to wear a fake armor in order to fit in and Penelope was NOT HAVING IT.

Girl was like....I SEE YOU! YOU ARE NOT FOOLING ME!

I’m guessing they mean with the fact that in less than a week we’ve now had the second big publication come out with a new Ryan issue and promoting Oliver’s along with it. Both times Oliver’s was not exactly recent either so it truly is an eyebrow raise to suddenly have them pushing his again. DAMAN was like 3 days ago? And now A Book OF. Plus comparing Oliver’s book of to Ryan’s is…wild with how much they mirror each others photos etc. (This was also Something that fandom was led to believe was what was going to happen with Oliver and Lou and have been heavily bragging about for weeks now remember)

Then the things Ryan was saying in his interview portion and the gender neutral of it all

Oh, thank you. The way that Ryan is talking exactly like Oliver was must've stressed them out. I am very intrigued by the way both magazines decided to reshare their issues with Oliver now that the Ryan ones are out. And the way that the poses match for some of the pictures is madness. The promo has been driving me mad for real.

While waiting for MSI, I did look up and watched Lovely Writer. Up ATE the hell out of Ming OMGGGG. I did not realize how different it is until I watch his previous series. Damn that's 2 different men and I can't believe people still doubt his acting skill. I'm amazed

I will always be grateful to LW because it is THE series that catapulted my full obsession with Up Poompat. Like even back then, I was always not a big fan of branded pairing, but when LW came out and made those sharp commentaries on BL industry and shipping, I was hollering every episodes.

but most of Up's fans/followers being from Lovely Writer era also posed a challenge to him being casted in My Stand-In because most fans were already used to seeing him as the cute grumpy writer in LW (especially fans who are fixated on Up playing uke roles), so a lot of people had doubts about him being able to pull off the arrogant cold beauty seme that is Yan Ming Xiu.

I personally think he's proven himself enough having played Put aka lite Ming in Step By Step. But I also get not everyone can be open-minded about an actor completely transforming and doing a 180 for a character.

I'm so glad that the series characterization of YMX into Ming has fitted Up perfectly because I think Up can pull off the obnoxious yet sometimes cute roles very well.

I'm also really proud that with only 5 episodes into the series, Up has generally been accepted by cfans/fans in the My Stand-In weibo supertopic even though there were so much uproar against this casting decision when it was initially announced. The producer Yuan and director Pepzi seem to be really proud of being able to cast Up as Ming (i bet @thasorns can attest to this when P'Yuan spoke about this as well at the IFYLITA screening in Berlin) after 9 months of looking for the right Ming and Joe.

But I think there are still a few similarities between Ming and Gene, like the hot temperament and jealousy ୧⁠(⁠＾⁠ ⁠〰⁠ ⁠＾⁠)⁠୨ but in very different fonts 🤣

all in all, yes yes yes. i absolutely agree. Up is killing it as Ming and i wouldn't have asked for any other actor to play ming. perhaps if the series had gone with trying to make Up play a character exactly like Novel!Yan Ming Xiu, i think it wouldn't have been as convincing tbh (⁠*⁠˘⁠︶⁠˘⁠*⁠)⁠.⁠｡⁠*⁠♡

but like i'm also up poompat defender so you can probably tell, my opinions are very biased <⁠(⁠￣⁠︶⁠￣⁠)⁠>
