rewatching the first episode of Hannibal and holy shit I forgot how good this is but it's actually insane that Brian fuller set up the ep like this, he introduces will and Hannibal by first briefly showing them at their core, at the darkest, most vile part of them---we get a glimpse behind the curtain---and then its gone, the curtain is snapped shut and we see their masks, their human suits.
Will empathizes with killers because he likes it, and he wants to kill but he refuses to give into the urge because he knows how much he'll like it and he won't be able to stop. So he lives vicariously through other killers, satisfying his own dark urge by feeding it little morsels of secondhand blood lust. Every crime scene he works gives the urge something that satisfies it, not enough for it to grow, but enough for it be sate. Enough that he can ignore it for long enough that he can walk around and be Professor Will Graham who is Weird, Brash, and Non-sociable.
And Hannibal is a cannibal at night and a psychiatrist by morning.
#hannibal#hannigram#hanniblogging#hannigram brainrot is real#also ive watched the entirety of hannibal like four times and everytime i watch it i still find stuff to lose my mind over#brian fuller the brain that you have#winston my beloved#also plzzzz the way hannibal was just gonna kill jack with like no hesitation#AND the way hannibal was fucking smitten from the moment he spoke to will#like wills all like i hate eye contract its distracting as hell and hannibal is just looking at him like ššš#plss you are embarrassing yourself#also question#when will was like how do you see me and hannibal said that shit about the mongoose and the snakes and will just looks at him like ????#do yall think he was confused because he was genuinely like dude what the actual fuck are you saying#or because he understood it#and the woman at hobbs' work being like two guys from the fbi#and neither of them are technically from the fbi#just two insane dudes having a first date by larping an active fbi investigation#omg and when will shoots hobbs he realizes that oh fuck this is my chance this is my chance to kill and finally satisfy that dark urge#so after he shoots him once he just keeps shooting shooting shooting till its impossible for hobbs to survive for hobbs to be dead#till it was will that killed him

do you know much about/know somebody who knows much about old school fantasy larp? i recently found a rulebook for a larp system by the labyrinthe club and if there are people out there who are interested in this sort of item, i'd like to help it find its way to them.
(Digging further back into the neglected ask box)
I don't know as much about early LARP publications, since I never was a true LARPer. I did some historic reenactment, and I played Steve Jackson's Killer in public back when you could shoot people with toy weapons on a school campus or in a municipal government building and get away with it.
I get the impression from the vague histories online that some of the early development of live action roleplaying is shrouded in a bit of mystery today. I imagine the rules for many early LARPs started as relatively ephemeral documents, one-off bundles of notes or zine-like booklets at best, like the unpublished drafts of "The Fantasy Game" that later became D&D, or similar to many early miniature wargame rules.
We've seen a lot of books recently about the origins of tabletop roleplaying. There probably is someone out there with a similar interest in LARP history who would love to compile the early evidence for who wrote what when.

"A dark, sexy non-verbal dance game using the mind-control mechanics that made the larp Bjergtaget a hit"
i do find it immensely charming how much the LARP community assumes deep knowledge of their very niche scene in literally all their game descriptions. hi, i'm a VERY Onlineā¢ nerd who's been to an entire larp convention at this point, plus multiple smaller games. i have never heard of Bjergtaget. i do not even know how to pronounce it. when i google it, the first result is a random PDF embedded in some Wordpress CMS in a .se domain i've never heard of. might i ask what the definition of a "hit" is. is it a hit if 30 people play. if 100 people play. it's gotta be somewhere below 1k, right, i KNOW the community is not that big
#don't get me started with how the scene defines Genreā¢#thank god for the one friendly nerd helping me when i signed up for my first intercon#so i could ask him questions like The Fuck Is A Litform. The Fuck Is A Freeform. Are You Guys Just Making Up Words (yes)#larp but make it fashion

If it helps the discourse still kinda exists in the aspd and npd community but itās now in the form of accusing everyone of larping. I swear I have seen every and all ways ASPD can present being called fake on here. Itās so stupid and annoying but has its funny moments. But now I just donāt ever talk about my experiences because of it. š
aspd fakers this, npd fakers that.
enough idle talk. to find the One True Narcissistic Psychopath we must lock all of cluster B tumblr in the octagon and fight it out
#aspd#npd#yeah itās always been like that. such dumb shit because 1) not an attractive/socially advantageous disorder to fake imo#(either one. npd specifically tho)#2) this is TUMBLR. of course some percentage of ppl are larping. its not your job to figure it out lmao. just make peace with that fact and#connect with people whoās experiences resonate. witch hunting is kinda pointless bcā¦ no ones gonna post a therapy transcript or smthn. lol.#obviously not pointed at anon but to who theyāre talking about#ANYWAYS. iāll always remember the only person i met as a youngster w aspd. an ex haredi jewish girl in my group home. tumblr would hate her#and call her diagnosis fake probs#questions and answers#fuck had to edit cause i didnāt finish my sentence eee embarrassing

This might be like a weird ask, but like can you explain how larp works? I play ttrpgs so I know like the basics of roleplaying but like is it the same group everytime? But there seem to be so many people involved? Do you get assigned your character or do you create them? Is there some kind of a gm? I imagine the logistics are super complicated but maybe you could explain it a little? Also followed for db content, stayed for larp sideblog!
Not a weird ask at all! But oh boy, where do you begin?
Every larp is organized differently, and the things I'm about to say are by no means universal. I'll just explain this using the Mythodea campaign as an example.
Just like in ttrpgs, you've got one-off games, and long running campaigns. Mythodea is one of the largest german campaigns. There are several Mythodea events happening each year, the biggest one being Conquest with just under 10000 players. Then there's the Chroniken and the JdS, which usually have around 1500 players attending. There's a few more smaller events throughout the year, too.
These all happen in the same universe, with the same plotlines. Like sessions in the same game of DnD. Some players only attend the Conquest, others show up at several or most of the smaller events as well. All depending on how involved you want to get
Do they assign you a character?
No! There are larps that'll hand you a pre-made character, many don't. However, individual groups within the Mythodea campaign (say: certain nations, orders or camps) might have a certain design concept that they'd want your character to fit into if you want to join them. A knightly order wouldn't exactly want a random pirate joining their ranks. In the overall campaign, you can pretty much show up with any vaguely medieval (ish) fantasy (ish) character that you came up with.
Is there some kind of GM?
Kinda, yeah! The overarching plot is written by a team of organizers, who then brief the NPCs on what's supposed to happen next. The players, like in ttrpgs, then react to whatever gets thrown at them. Occasionally they'll brief "important" individual players, too, for logistical reasons. But as a player you ideally get minimal direct info from the game runners.
Since this is a giant campaign with all sorts of factions and groups, there is a fuckton of plot that isn't dictated by the game runners. A lot of conflict and storylines just evolve naturally, and you can attend most of the bigger events without necessarily having to interact with the given plot.
How are the players in such a big game organized?
The players are, in this case, split into groups. There's different kingdoms (in Mythodea you have four main kingdoms: southern, western, northern and the realm of roses. We don't talk about the east for, uh, a bunch of reasons. Plus a big number of independant kingdoms and groups). That's how the camps are divided. Within those big kingdom/group camps, you have smaller factions within said kingdoms. Like specific guilds, families or organizations. You'll usually have one or two people per small camp, and then again a few people for the umbrella groups organizing the logistics of who goes where, who's showing up, etc etc. If this sounds horribly complicated and like one mess of a snowball system, that's because it is. You just hope that whoever's directly above you in the chain of People Who Organize Things knows what they're doing.
#ask#larp#i tried. i think this is what you were asking about specifically?#its all a mess tbh#but always feel free to ask questions. i do like answering them. logistics are just the worst part of this hobby

So, uh, is Lyra over Werner?
Things do end up pretty well between those two in Lyra's OG plotline but I still need to draw that sometime š
What I'm drawing right now is more of a group story collaboration! She ends up with someone else and still does live happily ever after >:)
#theres like. three timelines in my head#but it's gonna be hell to explain#it's like the routes in some choice game#lyra's original plot is standalone and isolated#with her not being a part of the Avis unit but definitely a dispatch team from Astera#that storyline is where a John MonsterHunter exists#and lyra is just some sort of sidelines character#all alone in the old world with a bunch of researchers#god i can yap in the tags all day but please.....#any specific questions and i will answer#we larp this game so theres just too many to mention and draw and arghghhg#ask#holyshit an oc ask thank u anon

So does any mineral oil work on steel armor to remove old wax and oils? Or do I need a specific type? It's my first time re-waxing my helmet, and I don't want to mess it up. It's pretty dry right now, like I think all the oil that was on it dried up. I just know I'm supposed to remove stuff with a microfiber cloth, use steel wool to get rid of rust, then put the new wax on. But I'm just concerned the mineral oil I have at home won't work, or will ruin the helmet.

So uh, executive functions a bitch hey? Anyways, here's the long overdue 'fit reveal of my Wams and Hose (the pink and green fabric from this post, with the original idea being this) and my Hemd.
So this outfit is around 16th century German, and on the simpler side of Landsknect. All the pieces are made of linen (except for the tights, they're just ballet tights I ordered online), and the cord was braided by both myself and a friend.
Patterning the hose (shorts) was a very, um,, intimate experience... In order to make the pattern some old tights were sacrificed, I stood very still, and was mummified in duct tape. As you can see, they fit quite well, and the short inseam gives me quite a considerable range of motion
The wams (top) are attached at the front and back centre by ties. I'll eventually add more attachment points on the side I think, but for festival they held up spectacularly.
Overall I'm very happy with them, I missed my colour goals slightly, but also they're just the cutest watermelon palette >:)

#its uh#2am right now imma go to bed#feel free to ask any questions and ill do my best to answer them tho#aesa's crafts#scablr#historical reenactment#reenactment#reenactor#sewing#sca#larp#landsknect#hand sewing#i did both really

okay one trait I gave my WoL is that heās a himbo and this means that when I fuck up a mechanic in a duty, I just tell my sister that I was playing him in character
#simply larping the duty#this is bc there were a lot of spots in the story where they ask you a question#and thereās a right answer but I always ended up picking the wrong one LMAO#and theyād be like āā¦ā¦.. good try but no#and so now itās a character trait for him
