I think Yuta means well, and he genuinely cares about Gojo, but to frame his final decisions as becoming something "monstrous," I think is another example of Gojo being misunderstood, or understood for only part of who he is.

"Are you Gojo Satoru because you are the strongest, or are you the strongest because you are Gojo Satoru?" It's both, isn't it? Gojo's strength is as part of his identity, as is his humanity, but the two are opposed. Gojo doesn't have the luxury of being "selfish," to "seek meaning" for himself by carving out his own path the way that Geto does when he leaves, because a single misstep from him could upend the world. A Gojo Satoru who pursues his own truth, the way everyone else in the world does, is monstrous, and he's aware of the fact. That's the contradiction at the heart of his loneliness. He cannot realize himself, as an individual, without giving up on his humanity (meaning, his ability to connect with others as a human). But to preserve his humanity, his sense of belonging in the world, Gojo cannot pursue self-realization as an individual actor.

So Gojo stating he can't avoid becoming a monster and wanting to catch up to Geto who left him behind ... man that hurts me. Push meets shove, and he has to make a sacrifice. And Gojo chooses (or resigns himself, for lack of other options) to strength, the path of loneliness.

In what way does Gojo want to ''catch up''? To finally use his strength to chase after his own ideals, taking action, moral uncertainties & collateral be damned? I think that's the decision he makes when he kills the higher-ups w/o being certain it's the right thing. I think it's also in a very literal gay yearning way -- he wants to chase after Geto, the last person in his memory who could stand at the top with him and that he had a true connection with albeit for a short moment in time, because choice notwithstanding, it still remains that Gojo doesn't want to be alone.

For what it's worth, I don't think that means Gojo doesn't "care" about his students, fellow teachers, or humans in general. But he gives up his sense of "belonging with" -- instead of the form of attachment that is "love," his care takes the form of detached, unilateral "compassion," as a deity feels for its subjects.

So that's Gojo's state of mind when he goes into this fight vs. Sukuna, embracing/giving himself up to the loneliness that comes with unrivalled strength. But in the end he finds in Sukuna a distorted reflection of his own "monstrosity," someone who matches and in fact exceeds him in strength. Gojo finds someone who knows his positionality, who's powerful enough to witness him, give him the chance to just selfishly be, and go all out. Someone with the capacity to understand him, to whom Gojo can show his "love." Which Sukuna doesn't reciprocate of course (if only Geto were there!!! then he couldve had it all!!). But Gojo went out being acknowledged by someone who could finally understand him. He didn’t die alone.

I don't think the fact of Gojo's students using his body is tragic in a new or different way. Gojo's stated himself that he doesn't care what happens after he dies (paralleling what Sukuna tells Yorozu, also, another skg w), and I don't think they have much of a choice given the state of affairs, though of course it always hurts to be reminded of how detached and alone Gojo was. But after sitting on it for a while, personally, I feel like this chapter helps understand what Gojo says in 236, and takes the sting out of his death.

Doing a little math again because I'm legit insane ✨✨ about Light Yagami ✨✨✨

THESE ARE ESTIMATES AND GUESSES DON'T COME FOR ME but I wanted to see how many people he'd killed by the time the broadcast happened!

I counted all the names on that one manga panel—thirty-two lines with four columns per row, which puts us at 128 names per page. There are obviously pages before the ones Light shoves in front of Ryuk, so that's already over 236 people dead.

Then the police say that all of Kira's kills are between the hours of 4:00pm and 2:00am—eleven hours total.

The average person can write anywhere from five to twenty words per minute; I took a guess and went with the upper bit of sixteen words per minute being Light's writing speed. NOW with this hypothesis (doing science in my DN headcanons now, watch me if-then), accounting for any breaks Light might have taken from writing between those hours by knocking two whole hours off altogether and making it a nice nine, given that he's shown to develop a bout of insomnia for that period—but not accounting for any names that are more or less words than two (which brings up the interesting question of if Light would need someone's middle name to kill them...hmm questions for another post)—Light fills about three and three quarters of pages per hour. That's 480 names per hour.

480 names an hour for nine hours is 4,320 names a day.

So in the frantic panicked haze Light would've been in during those five days before Ryuk showed up and told him he wouldn't be dying, Light likely killed somewhere around 21,600 people.

It slows drastically after this, because Light begins to calm down and think his kills through more thoroughly, developing an actual plan of action to justify all the people he's now killed. He starts getting proper sleep again, and likely does a lot more research because the "worst of the worst" (at least those in public eye) have already fallen under his pen. They had to have, given the number of them he nerfed in those first five days.

So he puts his sleep schedule back in place, starts doing more thorough research; that knocks his time down to about six hours a day to write names, give or take depending on the day. After Ryuk appears, there's only two more days before the broadcast. In those two days, using my prior calculations, Light likely killed around 5,760 additional people in those two days.

Putting his kill count as of the Lind. L. Tailor broadcast at a little over 27,000 people :D

(Then of course he levels out to twenty-four people per day once it comes out that L thinks Kira is a student, which is a FAR more drastic change from fucking over 4,000 per day. Really highlights how his priorities switched from cleaning the world to playing his fun new game with L lmao).

Hi Vox, what books do you like to read? Genres etc, physical or e-books? Also do you have any recommendations on books to read? I'm dying to get into new books but I have no idea where to start looking.

Recently, I've mostly been reading online even when I'm not reading fanfic—stuff like the SCP stories, r/nosleep authors and series, and original fiction on Ao3 and Fictionpress. Been hearing good things about Royal Road too, though the popular genres there may not be to my taste.

Anyway, when it comes to published books, I prefer fantasy or SF. Or both! And I'd rather have physical books than digital ones.

As for recs, the ones from my recent reads are—

The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir. It's a blend of SF and fantasy. It has four parts, and three are currently out. We're waiting with bated breath for the final one.

How to Survive Camping series by Bonnie Quinn. It's a complete four-part series of supernatural mystery and horror that started out on r/nosleep but has been published as books.

My last proper reading spree was over five years back, so I have no idea how I'll feel about these books if I were to read them now:

Hannibal

Hannibal (also known as Hannibal Barca, l. 247-183 BCE) was a Carthaginian general during the Second Punic War between Carthage and Rome (218-202 BCE). He is considered one of the greatest generals of antiquity and his tactics are still studied and used in the present day. His father was Hamilcar Barca (l. 275-228 BCE), the great general of the First Punic War (264-241 BCE).

These wars were fought between the cities of Carthage in North Africa and Rome in northern Italy for supremacy in the Mediterranean region and the second war resulted directly from the first. Hannibal assumed command of the troops following his father's death and led them victoriously through a number of engagements until he stood almost at the gates of Rome; at which point he was stopped, not by the Romans, but through a lack of resources to take the city.

He was called back to Africa to defend Carthage from Roman invasion, was defeated at the Battle of Zama in 202 BCE by Scipio Africanus (l. 236-183 BCE) and retired from service to Carthage. The remainder of his life was spent as a statesman and then in voluntary exile at the courts of foreign kings. He died in 183 BCE by drinking poison.

Early Life

Although Hannibal is easily one of the most famous generals of antiquity, he remains a figure of some mystery. Scholar Philip Matyszak notes:

There is much we do not know about this man, though he was one of the greatest generals in antiquity. No surviving ancient biography makes him the subject, and Hannibal slips in and out of focus according to the emphasis that other authors give his deeds and character. (24)

Nothing is known of his mother and, although he was married at the time of some of his greatest victories, no records make mention of his wife other than her name, Imilce, and the fact that she bore him a son. What became her or her son is not known. The story of Hannibal's life is told largely by his enemies, the Romans, through the historians who wrote of the Punic Wars.
