The upcoming live-action spin-off film, Jigen Daisuke 「次元大介」, has a brand-new action-packed trailer!
Narrated by the current Japanese voice actor of the animated Jigen, Akio Ōtsuka, the trailer gives a better look at what we can expect from the film, along with a glimpse at its supporting cast.
Yōko Maki is due to play Jigen's arch-enemy, Adel, an assassin who has lost both a leg and her voice - neither of which stop her from being a formidable foe for our hero.
Kotoka Maki features as Oto, a young girl targeted by the villainous Adel's organization.
Masatoshi Nagase stars as Takeshi Kawashima, an assassin and right-hand man of Adel who possesses impressive mimicry and disguise abilities.
Honami Satō plays Ruri, Kawashima's lover, and Mitsuko Kusabue plays Chiharu Yaguchi, the world's best gunsmith whose run-down watch repair shop serves as a front for her services.
The film is releasing “worldwide” (exact locations to be revealed) on October 13th, 2023, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Tetsuji Tamayama, who previously portrayed the character in the 2014 released feature film, will be returning to the role of Jigen. He is the second actor to take the role of Jigen in a live action Lupin III film, with Kunie Tanaka being the first in 1974’s Strange Psychokinetic Strategy.
Yoshimasa Akamatsu (BD ~Akechi Tantei Jimusho, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows) has produced the script for the upcoming film, and Hajime Hashimoto (The Detective Is in the Bar franchise, AIBOU: Tokyo Detective Duo, Shimauma, Signal) is on directing duties.

Yuzo Kayama and Yoko Tsukasa in Scattered Clouds (Mikio Naruse, 1967)
Cast: Yoko Tsukasa, Yuzo Kayama, Mitsuko Kusabue, Mitsuko Mori, Mie Hama, Daisuke Kato, Yoshio Tsuchiya, Yu Fujiki, Tadao Nakamura. Screenplay: Nobuo Yamada. Cinematography: Yuzuru Aizawa. Production design: Satoru Chuko. Film editing: Eiji Ooi. Music: Toru Takemitsu.
As Scattered Clouds opens, Yumiko Eda (Yoko Tsukasa) is as happy as a married woman can be: Her husband has just had a promotion that will take them from Tokyo to Washington, D.C., and she has just learned that she's pregnant. And then he's killed in an accident and she loses the child. It's a mark of Mikio Naruse's masterly control of tone that he chooses neither to show the accident happening or to make explicit how her pregnancy ended -- whether it was a miscarriage or an abortion. The cause is less important than the effect: Yumiko's utter devastation. And then we switch from her point of view to learn that the driver who killed her husband, Shiro Mishima (Yuzo Kayama), was devastated by the accident in his own way. Although he is exonerated -- he was in no way responsible for the death of Yumiko's husband, the result of a blown-out tire that caused him to lose control of the car -- he suffers at work: His company wants to avoid scandal and transfers him to a less-desirable location. He also suffers from guilt: Desperate to make amends, he arranges to send Yumiko a monthly stipend. She needs the money: Her husband's family coldly distances itself from her, and the insurance isn't enough to live on. But she proudly rejects Shiro's offer, regarding it as "blood money," until it's apparent that she needs it to survive. To that point, Scattered Clouds is a probing look at the nature of grief and guilt. And then melodrama sets in: Shiro's transfer coincidentally puts him in the neighborhood of the inn that Yumiko's sister-in-law runs, and Yumiko takes a job as hostess at the inn. As their plot-crossed paths intersect, Shiro and Yumiko overcome their initial antipathy and fall in love. But what matters in Scattered Clouds is not the familiarity of the tropes of melodrama but the skill with which Naruse, his actors, and his crew -- especially composer Toru Takemitsu -- handle them. It's an irresistible film, no matter how contrived its plot, and if you're not a little teary-eyed when it ends, I feel sorry for you.

I just watched the Jigen Movie. Read of my thoughts.
(spoilers under the cut! I had a great time 😊)
MR TETSUJI TAMAYAMA SIR YOUR ACTING IN THIS FILM WAS INCREDIBLE!! Especially in the bits between him and Oto; the hand shake he did when reading Oto's backstory was just AAAAAAAHHH PERFECTION
All the performances in this movie were great honestly! Special mention goes to Kotoka Maki and Mitsuko Kusabue as Oto and Chiharu respectively. Loved them
TOTALLY thought Chiharu was gonna die like three separate times in this movie. Was very pleasantly surprised when she survived. And she even adopted Oto!
Really liked Ruri the prostitute girl too
Felt really bad for Kyoko and Yuya
The whole street thinking Jigen was Chiharu's nephew and Oto was his daughter was hilarious. One of the best scenes in the movie
The stuff about Adele was really interesting
Also the shapeshifting gimmick of Kawashima or whatever his name was I forgot
James's music... *chef's kiss*
I appreciated the Monkey Punch photo and the Fiat at the end (I KNEW there was gonna be a cameo!)
I swear to God I thought Shun Oguri was about to come out of that car for a second
Jigen making sukiyaki and spaghetti... I see what you did there 😆
I really liked the look of the city in this movie. While there were parts where I couldn't really tell what was going on, on the whole I think it was really well lit.
I thought Akio Otsuka was supposed to narrate this but I didn't hear him anywhere! Maybe I missed it, maybe it was in the credits and I didn't see it cause I skipped them, idk.
Also thought they were gonna make at least some mention of Kobayashi but didn't see any
This one was a LOT of fun. Took a little bit to really hook me but when it did I had a BLAST. And now to wait and see what the hell they're gonna do next!

Yuzo Kayama and Hideko Takamine in Yearning (Mikio Naruse, 1964)
Cast: Hideko Takamine, Yuzo Kayama, Mitsuko Kusabue, Yumi Shirakawa, Mie Hama, Aiko Mimasu. Screenplay: Zenzo Matsuyama, based on a story by Mikio Naruse. Cinematography: Jun Yasumoto. Music: Ichiro Saito
Mikio Naruse's Yearning could almost have been a Douglas Sirk romantic melodrama, with Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson in the roles played by Hideko Takamine and Yuzo Kayama, except that Hollywood would never have allowed the Japanese film's bleak downer ending. (Sirk argued for an ending to the 1955 All That Heaven Allows in which Hudson's character died, but was overruled by producer Ross Hunter.) Like Sirk, Naruse takes the woman's side and uses the film for sharp commentary on the changing role of women. Reiko Morita's (Hideko Takamine) husband died in the war, after a brief marriage, but she stayed on to help the Morita family rebuild its business after the war ended, and in the subsequent years has run the family grocery and liquor store with great skill. But now a new threat has emerged to their business: the supermarket, which can afford to cut prices below what the Morita's store is able to charge. Reiko runs the store almost single-handedly, with no help from her brother-in-law, Koji (Yuzo Kayama), a college-educated layabout. And then her sister-in-law, Hisako (Mitsuko Kusabue), acting on a suggestion from her husband, proposes that the family convert the store into a supermarket because of its prime location. Koji, as the surviving male in the family, would become president -- if he can clean up his act. The problem with the plan is that there's no room in the scheme for Reiko, who is not actually a member of the family, even though she has kept it going for years. Meanwhile, Koji also discloses to Reiko that he's in love with her, which causes problems because she's his brother's widow as well as because she's 11 years older than he is -- the kinship and the age gap being huge challenges to tradition. When the situation reaches a crisis point, Reiko decides to go home to her own family, which lives far away. Koji follows her onto the train and in a long ride they try to work things out. Naruse and his lead actors give this concluding section a great poignancy, though it ends abruptly and painfully, leaving the audience to work out the consequences of the ending for themselves.
