i don’t think there are words in the english lexicon to describe how much i hate kurzgesagt and their promotion of imperialism, capitalism and western hegemony to impressionable young people and adults who think they’re intellectually superior because they chose to wedge imperialist US propaganda further down their throat.

how uniquely ghoulish to make this video at all, and then to describe one of the things that people ‘know and love from south korea’ as being SQUID GAME as if it isn’t a critique of capitalism and the havoc wreaked on the vulnerable in society. similarly, by positioning south korea as being under threat by using this pseudo scientific language that pretends to critique and evaluate their sources, they are setting up the proliferation of fascist rhetoric. not to mention the presupposition that south korea should even be a country at all, and that it isn’t solely a country formed in opposition to the DPRK. of course a country formed as a response to the ‘threat’ of communism is going to be very susceptible to the accelerated decline of capitalism lmao.

anyways kurzgesagt is a capitalist propaganda machine and you should stop watching them. they’re pseudoscientific and ahistorical and no one will ever realise that they’re prageru but for conservatives in denial because their graphics are so ‘lovely’ and they cite their ‘sources’

This Kurzgesagt video on how the brain constructs conscious experience has been out for a few days, but I love and keep coming back to it because I think it really concisely conveys something I don't think a lot of people know or have really internalized, but which is pretty fundamental to accurately understanding the world and self; that when people say that consciousness is an illusion, that's not just some vague philosophical assertion refuting dualism, but that consciousness really is measurably, mechanically an illusion. That from a signal processing perspective, it is simply not physically possible for our experience of the world and ourselves to match reality.

Of course dualists can still hand wave that away with magical souls, but it's important to understand the solidity of what is being argued, I feel.

It really changes how you think about what and where you are in a deep way. In the same way, my perception on hallucinations as a symptom transformed drastically once I sufficiently realized that our entire cognitive-sensory experience is already a hallucination itself, made up of best guesses by a very savvy neural network that knows everything we do and that we're trained to ignore the typical shortfalls of.

Of course that mechanism would malfunction in a lot of people for a lot of reasons. It's a wonder that it isn't a lot more common!

So in g/t writing, size matters a LOT for the Tinies. Depending on how tall they are in your world, they might be near-impervious to fall since they weigh so little, or seriously endangered by water since it’s tension can pull them under and refuse to let go. I watched the crash course lecture from John Green on tuberculosis 2 weeks back and it made me realise how some of my professors are utterly pitiful and ineffective. I remember almost every detail from that video and it made me curious for more.

It contained everything from tuberculosis's history to the modern predicament and that is how I want to learn things. I could spend an eternity if everything is taught this way. Crash course has always been my favourite. Through channels like Crash Course, I ain't limited to a major I can learn everything, and with so good creators too I want to learn everything.

Creators like Kurzgesagt, vertasium, Ted Ed, crash course, and similar are why I pay my internet bill.
