Let's talk about Revati women ♡

💗 Revati is ruled by Mercury the trickster and its a Pisces nakshatra so you can only imagine how these natives can cast an illusion, theyre like magicians or shifters. They're master manipulators (not in a bad way cuz they don't intend to harm others but it's like they know how to get their way and how to be perceived a certain way while being lowkey w their motives)

I noticed its easy for revati women to attract wealth through other people as well like having a sugar daddy or a provider or thro pretty privilege/using their femininity to attract. They make it seem effortless or they have this mentality of "work smart, not hard". I think its underrated how fking clever they are !

So I’m trying to figure what the actual narrative parallels the RatGrinders and the BadKids have because the classes being the same are obvious but what else?

So the easiest is kind of Fig and Ruben, they were both sweet sorta preppy kids before rage turned them in the direction of more gritty music, rock and emo. Fig was mad that her dad left and her mom refusing to tell her who her bio dad was and Ruben just got rage crystalled.

Adaine and Oisin are odd because you’d think they’d be sorcerers. A subclass for sorcerer is literally dragon blood so why Oisin isn’t inherently magical is weird. But the biggest thing they have in common is that they were both scrawny weak-ish kids before getting buff in Junior year. (Adaine‘s furious fist and Oisin getting muscles)

I like to think that Gorgug and Mary-Ann parallel each other because they both do something that isn’t typical not them being barbarians per se. Mary-Ann, a kobold, being a barbarian and Gorgug, a half-orc, multiclassing an artifer. Which is great

Kristen and Buddy Dawn are much more obvious because it is said in the show that Buddy reminded Kristen of herself and that they both brought gods into the world in the gimnasium. Also Riz and Kipperlily are compared multiple times in the show so not really sure what to add.

But Fabian and Ivy are really hard. We’ve got no clue what Ivy’s homelife is like besides people theorising that she’s from leviathan. And that makes their dynamic the most interesting because she and Fabian have nothing in common except that they’re popular(not sure if Ivy is). If anything Ivy is more of what Fig would be like if her dad wasn’t Gorthalax. This catty, fashionable, ranger wood elf could easily have been Fig. So it’s kinda unfortunate we didn’t get a lot of characterisation for Ivy.

I've been thinking about FHJY recently and one thing I can't stop coming back to is how the bad kids (and kinda the intrepid heroes) haven't processed that they're not low status anymore. It's a bit like Zelda said in c2 to Gorgug where she is frustrated with him because he hasn't processed that he's extremely popular and is still stuck in the "backpack kid" mindset and can't understand how some of the stuff he does makes her feel insecure. The party as a collective hasn't moved past this self perception of being the "plucky loser freshman fighting back against the school!" not realizing that they're now not only extremely popular and influential both in and out of school, but are also upperclassmen.

Partly it's because it's a show made by comedians and will always have a comedic undertone in some respects but in freshman year when they were making jabs at people like ragh and penelope they were very low social status freshman and it was very much a punching up type deal. It's like in the MisMag holiday special where the magical misfits go really hard on Axelby thinking of him as part of the messed up wizarding world and end up just being unnecessarily cruel to him and feel bad about it. When they have that mentality of being kinda snarky to everyone they're sometimes just being bullies. During junior year they still think they're always punching up and don't realize they're now just punching down.

I feel like it's especially prominent with their first interaction with Kipperlily. Obviously as outside viewers and the IH as players knowing this is a story and the tone of the scenes we can infer from context clues that with the narrative foils in the rat grinders being set up that Kipperlily is most likely an antagonist. In universe though, Kipperlily has done literally nothing to be mean or antagonistic towards them to their knowledge at that point and Kristen immediately says that her name sounds stupid and decides to run for class president out of spite purely because they decided she seems a little stuck up. They're still in the mindset of thinking they're like freshman being sassy to the popular senior but in reality they're just verbally berating another kid with basically no provocation other than KLCK just having a funny name and being kinda type A.

Mary Ann Skuttle

Mary-Ann. Pretty neutral, she seems like she doesn't give two fucks about what happens which is kinda cool but kinda boring as well. I do absolutely love the 'tiny person very strong' trope so bonus points for that. 6/10 she's cool but atm seems unremarkable.

Ruben Hopclap

Seems like a dick tbh. Trying way too hard to be edgy but is also a cool foil for Fig in that way. He appears to genuinely like Wanda Childa so I feel a bit bad for the psychological break he will probably suffer when he learns that she's Fig. 4/10 (loses points for dragging the Thistlesprings into his little band ritual thing).

Ivy Embra

She's hot, ngl. Seems very similar to how I'd imagine Sandra Lynn at that age which is kinda interesting. She is a bitch however and did not seem AT ALL remorseful when she saw "Lucy". 3/10 she made fun of Mazey Phaedra.

Oisin Hakinvar

Probably the best member of the group so far. He was nice to Adaine even though she didn't recognise him. He also apologised for the actions of his friends! This implies that he maybe doesn't agree with what they're doing. Does follow Kipperlilly's lead as far as we know, so his biggest flaw seems to be being a follower. 7/10 i would also have a crush on Adaine even if my team leader hated her.

Buddy Dawn

Smarmy and self-assured. Absolutely brilliant characterisation from Brennan, bc Buddy is kind of how I would imagine Kristen would turn out to be without the bad kids. I think he could possibly be a good person if they showed him the truth of Helio and the world but he's also extremely annoying and dangerously dedicated to his grandfather's agenda. 3/10 he would comment "It's not too late to be saved" on queer Instagram posts.

Kipperlilly Copperkettle

I've said this before but I actually like her name, I think it's cool. As for her character: she's a deceitful, manipulative control freak who doesn't hesitate to sabotage her classmates and (potentially) murder her friends if she thinks they're in her way. 1/10 I don't like her.

Sometimes I think about things like, what kinda non-alchoholic drinks the bad kids would drink.

Fig feels like someone who has a monster can wall, organised to be aesthetic, so I'm gonna say monster, although whether she drinks it cause she likes it or she drinks it cause she thinks it's cool is a different story.

Riz, I think, survives purely off coffee. Like doesnt like the taste of energy drinks but loves the caffeine of it all. That guy owns a travel mug,he fills it with filter coffee 2-3 times a day minimum.

Adaine is maybe a lover of lemonade, either the one that strongly tastes like Lemons or like sprite/7Up. She drinks it in little sips while she focuses on something else, mutters ideas under her breath with each sip.

Kristen, just for the chaos of it, probably drinks something that's not as popular, something that's a little bit hard to get a hold of in some places. I'm thinking Irn Bru. Obviously she's a health juice girl in the new season but I can absolutely see Kristen drinking Irn Bru and trying to get the other bad kids to drink it and it not catching on at all.

Fabian drinks Coca Cola or sparkling water. I have never felt so sure of anything in my life.

I feel like Gorgug consumes both a healthy amount of water and an unhealthy amount of red bull. Especially this year, like he spends hours studying every single day in school, at practice, studying. He works so hard, almost harder than any other other Bad Kids (he fights maybe Riz and Adaine for top spot), get this boy a red bull.

i know a lot of folks want her to join kristen in following cassandra but i personally think that casssandra and like letting in doubt could be a part of her finding a way to worship helio in a way that feels good to her. similar to the way that tracker follows and influences galicaea, i see bee devoting herself to a reformed, more inclusive helio. we've only ever seen a very extremist standpoint of the harvestmen side of helio worship, but bee, worshipping the god of the harvest, of change and growth as a trans girl? i think thats lovely.

bee is so scared of the fact that their is so much that she just doesn't know. where kristen was so curious and excited coming into aguefort, bee is just scared cuz that's what she was taught to be. it's hard especially cuz she sees so much of herself in this stuff that she doesn't understand, and she was taught to hate what she doesn't understand

she is super particular about stuff being designated as 'hers' especially with the amount of things that she has to share with her brothers. she has to sit in the seat behind the driver's seat in the car, she has to use her yellow plate and if she has her comic book mug that no one else is supposed to use

she is little miss words of affirmation. a lot of her growing up was seeing her sister being so praised and cherished in the church so when someone would take a moment and give her a little bit of affirmation too she just. melts.

she joins the gsa in sophomore year and she becomes fast freinds with torek. she's kinda obsessed with the fact that torek is not traditionally feminine by human helioic standards but still is like confidently and obviously a girl as well as torek just being cool as shit and not taking any crap.

pretty much her entire life she existed in kristen's shadow and for so long she used to wish that she could just get a little bit of that attention, that she could be *special*, but then all of a sudden kristen is gone, and she is getting that attention she thought she wanted but she realizes really quickly that it's not good attention. she has to deal with all of this pressure from her parents while realizing what her sister had been going through, and all through it she doesn't know whether to feel bad for her sister or hate her for leaving.

her and bricker are the closest in age so they did a lot of activities together as kids just cuz it was easiest but they are such total opposites. they were on a peewee soccer team together as kids and while bee was on the field trying her best and failing miserably, bricker, who was the best kicker on the team was sitting on the sidelines eating grass. they also shared a room until kristen left and it was a constant battle between bricker who is a slob and bee who Is Not

she is a cub scout! she's been a scout since she was pretty young, used to be part of the kinda helioc version some folks at her church ran, but she eventually grew out of it and had to beg her parents to let her joinng the elmville scouts but they eventually let her. she loves camping, hiking, general outdoorsy stuff as well as all the folks in her troup

before she transitioned, she was a pretty typical polo and khakis church kid, but as she was able to wear more fem clothes and experiment a little bit, she is a lot more drawn to looser, more flowey and floral materials. a lot of her stuff isn't necessarily explicitly feminine cuz a lot of the girls in her life aren't really tradionally fem so she doesn't force herself to do more than she's comfortable with. also she fucking loves cardigans

🍫 A headcanon about food

she cannot cook to save her life but she isn't half bad at baking. she's great at following directions and it was one of the things that she got to do alongside her sister growing up when their family needed to bring something to a bake sale or a potluck. she has made so much cornbread in her life she can do it without even having to look the recipe she could honestly do it with her eyes closed

the applebees household was not a place that allowed for tears, so growing up she was taught the only appropriate way to deal with negative emotions was through anger, so she is just so angry all the time and even though she hates it, it's hard for her to rewire her brain to think about it any other way. for a while she tried to just shut down, figuring if she doesn't feel anything than at least she's not angry but it just festers till she explodes. as she kinda deconstructs and reconstructs her religion and the righteous anger that seems to go with it hand in hand she quickly realized that anger can be used as a tool, those emotions leading her to let her feel that anger and then move with it and past it to fix the problem.

Sometimes I imagine what senior prom would be like for the bad kids, and especially Riz. I think at that point everyone one else might not be dating somebody, but they have someone to go with. Maybe Oisin asks adaine, gorgug probably has a comedy or errors trying to figure which of the many ppl he's hooked up with at this point he should go with. Kristen and tracker, ayda and fig, fabain and mazey. Riz, being vice president, probably had a hand in some of the planning and setting up, but eventually day of, the bad kids realize that he wasn't actually planning on going. That or he was just gonna see the beginning to make sure it ran smooth and then go home.

When I feel particularly angsty, it think all of the parents came to chaperone, especially cause so many work at the school. And that includes his mom and gorthalax. So after a song or two he sneaks out and goes to the cemetary to talk with his dad. Eventually after a while he gets kinda emotional and very frank and talks about whether or not this is what the rest of his life will look like. Being alone while everyone else gets partnered off. After he leaves, his dad gets worried about his mental state and sends down an angelic companion/familiar for him. So the next morning they all get woken up, hungover as hell, to riz sending pictures and Eventually coming around with the companion animal.

When I'm less angsty, I think jawbone invites him to play fantasy dnd with him, Lydia, and Lynn for the night. Eventually he starts dming, and finally has a non work hobby.

For the sad one -

The worst part about it is his friends didn't notice he left. Noone came to find him (he literally went to one of his top-three places people should look if he disappears and wasn't making himself hard to find and he was there for a long time). He also probably would have come back if someone called asking where he went. They were too busy having fun with their partners at the prom while he was alone, partnerless, and it just hits him all at once that 'yeah im less important to them than their romance lives... this is fine... im ok (he's not)'. His dad is frantically filling out paperwork while Riz has a breakdown because ah fuck my kid needs a therapy animal.

For the less sad one -

You know he would get so into it. The only problem is any campaign he makes he has to plot out every. single. thing. his PC's could do and ends up obsessing over it to the point of loosing sleep.

Wilbur doesn't like techno that much. I mean, kinda hard to shake the image of the guy pointing a gun at your dad, even if it is understandable. And that's fine! Techno gets it. He doesn't really like Wilbur either, thinks he's endangering the group by letting Phil tag along. He avoids Wilbur, Wilbur avoids him, all's fine. Until tommy gets pulled into a zombie horde, and before techno can think to jump in after, Wilbur pushes him to the side, tells him to go get Kristin and runs in after Tommy

Ummm thoughts about Ed’s NPD and BPD? Interested to hear especially after reading your fic

AAAAA THANK YOU FOR READING IT!!!!! with my worldview of Ed having both I feel like his NPD is more prominent and noticeable, it's his first go-to when it comes to his defenses even if he is hiding it (aka season one, I would say he is more overt in his narcissistic vulnerability while covert in his grandiosity in that season, he flip flops around a lot in his presentation on his narcissism in the series buttttt from what I can remember he goes back and forth from hiding his grandiosity but not hiding his vulnerability to hiding his vulnerability but not his grandiosity.) his bpd came first to me, and since most people dont like those traits and he often gets maniuplated for them, he tries to repress it and focus on his narcissism. his npd also keeps him from splitting on himself more often too, both borderlines and narcissists often times see everything as either good or bad, you either are all good or your all bad, which is why treatment is often very hard for both of these groups because no one is all good or all bad. this is why narcissists try to avoid anything that shows a flaw in how they view themselves, they cannot have done a bad thing, since doing a bad thing means they are a bad person, their defenses are more stable and hard to overcome than a borderlines because of this.

i think a easy way to tell is how people with npd and people with bpd split. since npd is more so focused on the self and maintaining the ego, theres three catergories of viewing relationships instead of just two. the first one is someone to perform to, someone to get easy praise from and being able to keep your self essteem in check so you can still feel good about yourselves ( i dont think i need to state here that narcissistss dont actually love themselves, only the image they are trying to contain, this kind of splitting can also be seeing the person theyre performing for as a equal but its not really close, its more superficial ). the two other types are more devaluing, the second kind of narcisstic splitting is seeing someone as someone to inghore, someone who just does not get it and is too stupid too ever get it, the thrid one is the most simliar to borderline splitting since it sees the other as a predator, someone trying to sabotage and hurt them and trying to vitcimize them.

bpd splitting is more so focused on the other, seeing them as someone who is just perfect and you want to know everything about them and always make them happy and how they're just perfect, to them being someone being an abuser manipulator who never cared or loved them in the first place. both of these kinds of splitting are similar in structure but still different, narcissism still mostly focuses on the self while borderline focuses more on the other, narcissism as a defense mechanism is more so focused on the superficial while borderline is more focused on the personal.

when you apply this logic to how ed splits on people, then you kinda start to see this way of performing to keep his ego in check just does not apply to how he treated oswald! his attempts to please him and to help him were exteremly self sacfricial and often put his life on the line! he didnt need to do all of this for oswald to get oswald's praise and admiration, what he does for oswald is more simliar to a borderline wanting to do anything for their favorite person and showcase how much they care for them than a narcissist thinking they met an equal which brings their self essteem up! in the end of how the riddler got his name ed said he based his whole self worth on oswald, and instead of letting himself grieve normally, he tells himself he doesnt need anyone anymore and that hes fine now. the narcissism took over, it didnt even let him fully grieve. he didnt see oswald as just someone to bring his ego up like he did with kristen he didnt reduce oswald's existence to just that, oswald was the only person who ever loved or cared for him and was this amazing figure who ended up being someone who never actually loved him and was only using him in ed's eyes.

i would argue his relationship with lee was more so borderline too, she was the only person he was close to and was the only person who could take his shit during that whose collapse of his ego. he genuinely cared for her and was willing to kill himself out of paranoia he would hurt her! that is not narcissism, he did have narcissistic intentions with their relationship at the start of season four, but it changes into the codependency similarly to what he had with Oswald, only this time being a bit more one sided

That's why ed sticks to his narcissistic defenses more, because, to Ed, this is the only way you can love someone! you can only ever fully love someone if you would basically cut off your whole arm for them just to give them a gift, there are no boundaries! if he only acts selfish in his relationships then he will end up killing them like he did with Kristen too, so as a cope he pretends he doesn't want or desire close relationships during the later seasons, trying to paint himself as a cold logician just so he can have some admiration and praise and love but only from a distance since he knows if he gives too much, something like what happened with Oswald might happen again, and if he takes too much, something like what happened with Kristen might happen again. an Oswald will lead him into being weak and dumb, and a Kristen will lead him into being a monster who only exists to leech off and hurt others. if he just doesn't date then he can never experience either event again and can brush them off like they say nothing about him.

IDK if this whole thread makes any lick of sense, I don't think he was being borderline with Kristen but I do think he realized she was a real person with her own beliefs and opinions only after he killed her, which caused him to panic and repress any guilt or grief he had for the incident and convince himself it was no one's fault and was just destined to happen. Edward is terrible at accepting he did something awful or has emotions and needs, so he represses whatever he feels that conflicts with the image he has of himself and thinks that will be his permanent solution when it always fails him after a few months. he basically ignores and represses his borderline until he finds someone who seems like they are amazing to him which is just. kinda explodes all over the place I AM SO SORRY THAT HIS WHOLE EXPLANATION SUCKS ASS I HOPE I MADE MYSELF CLEAR ASK QUESTIONS IF I WAS UNCLEAR!!!!

Riz:

Gideon the Ninth is basically a who dunnit murder mystery. Riz would eat that shit up and have a conspiracy board up in 0.001 seconds after starting the book. Up all night reading coming to school talking nonstop about it. Obviously not spoiling anything not because he thinks the others will read it but because whatever he says is incomprehensible for them.

Talking about big buff ginger with a sword gets Kristen interested so Riz just hands her his not annotated copy. (Yes he has two copies one annotated and another if he runs out of space)

Kristen:

Junior year Kristen is a big buff ginger like Gideon so she obviously likes the book. Riz kinda forgot about all the religious trauma because he was so focused on the mystery board. Kristen is so not prepared for all the feelings that bubble up while reading. The pool scene hits her hard but luckily Jawbone is never not available to talk to.

Harrow and Kristen have so many similar experiences I wish these two could talk together and figure shit out.
