the IPRE playing Civ 6
This post started as a teehee joke, but then it became. Well. Far too long.
Anyway, it started with this simple idea: to ME Barry Bluejeans loves the Sid Meier's Civilization series. Do I feel this way because he's a long-time blorbo and I'VE been really into Civ lately? perhaps.
Anyway. He brought a copy of Civ 6 with him onto the Starblaster. He managed to achieve all victory types for all leaders by the end of the stolen century.
On what would have been his 100th birthday (if they were tracking ages normally), he got all of the crew to play a 7 player hotseat multiplayer game with him.
For those unfamiliar with Civ: it's a strategy game where you play as a fictionalized version of real life historical figures, seeking to create an empire which can survive throughout the ages. Each leader and country have certain bonus attributes, which can influence your playstyle.
Barry - Eleanor of Aquataine / England: This is a really weak civ for multiplayer, since her leader bonus only really works against the AI. But I think he purposefully chose that to try and give himself a disadvantage, since he has so much more experience. Plus it gives him Court of Love.
Lup - Hammurabi / Babylon: I think she'd like the really chaotic and off-beat playstyle of Babylon, which allows you to unlock some things crazy early if you focus in on the right tasks.
Taako - Qin Shi Huang (Mandate of Heaven) / China: I think he'd approach Civ as mainly a city building game / teehee wonders go brrr. Along with the bonus's to wonder production, the Great Wall would allow him to play more defensively.
Lucretia - Seondeok / Korea: A leader which allows her to rush a science victory, which feels thematically appropriate for the future creator of a fake moon. Requires a lot of thoughtful planning.
Davenport - Harald Hardrada (Konge) / Norway: powerful naval-focused civ goes brrr. considered giving him Portugal for a more peaceful approach, but tbh I think it'd be funny if Davenport was really cutthroat at the game.
Magnus - Tomyris / Scythia: I had to think on this one for a while, because at first I was tempted to try and pick something thematic for Magnus - a Diplomacy civ for his rustic hospitality, a civ which focuses on builders for his carpentry, etc etc. But ultimately, I think if you give Magnus Burnsides a game like Civ 6, he's mainly just going to want to have some fun making an army and attacking people.
Merle - Theodora / Byzantium: I think Barry told Merle to pick this one because she's one of the strongest civilizations in the game + she has a focus on faith and culture. Merle proceeds to get a Great Prophet, found the religion of Pan, and then mess up at the game in every single way possible.

The last time Princess Märtha Louise married, King Harald's speech was broadcast on TV and published by the Royal House. This will not be the case if he gives a speech in Geiranger.
- Any speeches will not be published, writes communications manager Guri Varpe at Slottet in an email to NTB.
The Royal House confirmed on Monday that King Harald, Queen Sonja, and Princess Astrid will attend Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett's wedding in Geiranger this weekend.
The entire Crown Prince Family, except for Marius Borg Høiby, will also participate. According to Crown Prince Haakon, Borg Høiby politely declined to attend Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett's wedding before the summer.

3-8 A/b Kong Harald

So, apparently the news network Ynetnews have crowned Norway as the most Israel-hostile country in Europe. Which, good for us, I guess, we already knew that we were among the more hostile according to their Norwegian ambassador (who has still not returned) after Norway decided to achknowledge Palestine as a state, and it just shows how either-or-extreme the terror state is in everything; you either blindly kiss their feet and agree with their horrid actions, or you are their worst enemy.
Here is a rough, amateur translation of the ingress:
For a long time, Ireland was in the lead, the big news paper Ynetnews writes, but Norway has now received first place as Europe's most Israel-hostile country. The paper points to how Arbeiderpartiet (Worker's Party) refused King Harald to give condolences to Israel after 7th October, and that the Arbeiderpartiet-government refuse to define - as the only European country - Hamas as a terror organization. The paper is not in doubt why Israel and Norway are in the most desperate diplomatic crisis ever. There are lines of examples when Norway is justly placed in this embarassing corner of shame.
I can translate the rest of the article, but it was long and basically, in my opinion, conspirators that look for anything to hang Norwegian figures on, in particular the Norwegian foreign minister Espen Barth Eide, as he has repeatedly spoken "against Israel". Examples included how Eide did not want to call Israel's actions a genocide early on, but that Israel was, objectively, commiting war crimes.
Continuing reading the article, and other Israel-defending articles, one really gets the impression that they rely heavily on "trust me, bro"-energy, because Eide saying that above is, according to this article, proof that Eide is more concerned about his own interests than that of Norway's. Even though he was simply stating a fact, and if anything, being blindly loyal to Israel like some other Norwegian politican is being feels much more like caring more about own interests than Norway's. (I'm not saying Eide does not care about his own interests, I'm sure he does, but this was not an example of it.)
Also, because this article claims that the politicians refused the King to give condolences - making it sound like the King wanted to - I decided to check it out more, because it does not sound like Kong Harald to be that publicly invested. So I found this article that, at least for me, seem to be closer to what might have actually happened. The idea to give condolences is because either the King or the prime minister has given condolences when a terror act has happened (in the western world) for a while now, and so a guy brought it up during a meeting that the king should do it after 7th October. When he was asked directly, the King stated it was on the table and thus a posibility that he would do it, but that it is the foreign department's decision whether they give the condolences or not, and whether it is him or the prime minister. In the end the prime minister had spoken about the incident enough that the department considered that akin to giving condolences, so they did not think it was proper of the King to do more. King Harald did not give any hint as to what his own opinions on the case was.

Civ 6 Tickle Headcanons Pt. 23: Harald Hardrada (Konge)
Tumblr media
Harald Hardrada (Konge): Ler
I'm really going through with this pun now. Normally Harald wants to focus on naval power, but now he wants to focus on navel power, as in power over your ticklish tummy. Normally all their naval units have the ability to pillage coastal improvements, but now he wants to get all his science, culture, and faith right from your tummy. Look out, here he comes again!
-
(This is based purely off of their appearances and special attributes as CIV 6 characters, and not off of their traits as actual historical figures. I do this for the sake of drawing a line between reality and fiction, as it feels simply wrong to enforce a separate narrative of my own onto real people.)
