So about that “What if in another universe” thought again after Treasure Planets’ cancelled projects…What about the Emperor’s old groove?
This is Pacha’s OG design, meant to be Manco’s (Kuzco’s OG name) doppelgänger/twin in the scrapped movie “Kingdom of the Sun”. An Incan influenced version on the “Prince and the Pauper” storyline was in the development, but was unfortunately re-worked….Sort of conflicted upon finding it out but I think it was for the better =)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Was not initially a 45-year old family man with a wife and 3 kids!! He was an 18 year old Llama herder who adores the sun; contrasts to Manco who was basically Kuzco: self-centered, and abrasive towards his royal duties.
He did have a love interest though, she’s called Nina and together had a duet called “One day she’ll love me”. Cute =)…Oh they scrapped it with Yzma’s villain song too =(
This is the Kuzco and Pacha we know today:
Tumblr media
And This is Manco/Kuzco (left) and Pacha (right) in the OG:
Tumblr media
Still cool to know!!

Early Yzma sketches by Andreas Deja, from when The Emperor's New Groove was in development as "Kingdom in the Sun". He envisioned her as "a sultry, seductive and power hungry diva", and was inspired by supermodel poses he saw in fashion magazines.

Disney's post-Renaissance: An alternate Timeline
Tumblr media
Round 3 of my alternate universes involving Disney eras. I should note, though: given that I made the AU for the revival era first, it exists independent of my AUs for the renaissance and post-renaissance eras, which exist together here. BE WARNED: as someone who lived during this era, it's one I am not a big fan of, so I'm making a bunch of changes based on my own opinion; while the renaissance era AU had additions, the post-renaissance AU has deletions/replacements.
Tumblr media
Fantasia 2000--The film turns out the same as it did in the OG timeline (perhaps better box office, though), but in this version, the animation style for "The Firebird Suite" leaves an immediate impact on audiences.
Tumblr media
Kingdom of the Sun--In this AU, "Pocahontas" (named "Amonute" in my AU) had more financial returns and the screening of KOTS had better audience feedback, so the concern of a serious, ambitious film wasn't a problem for Disney--though they did replace Huaca with Kronk for some light-heartedness. Despite all odds, Disney is able to crank out an original Incan musical epic. A spoiled king trades places with a lookalike peasant, but when the king is kidnapped and the peasant is blackmailed by the royal vizier to become a figurehead for her to rule through, they must get help from a kindhearted noblewoman and a tough female guard. If they fail, the kingdom could very well become the Kingdom of the Shadows. While the casting of non-Indigenous or Latino actors did earn some negative press (unless you want to imagine that they made this a priority to cast Latino actors), the film received overall praise and comparisons to renaissance-era films which hadn't been seen for a little while now. The film grossed roughly $400 million at the box office and gained positive critical reception, with a sequel series focusing on more twin hijinks, and Yzma's nephews Zim and Zam are used a bit more to balance them out. The king (called Manco) and his love interest join the Disney Princess/Disney Prince lineup.
Tumblr media
Atlantis: The Lost Empire--Due to the success of "Kingdom of the Sun," "Atlantis" was retooled in two ways: it was to be made a musical, and more focus would be put on the magical aspects of Atlantis instead of the technology aspects. Needless to say, this caused quite a bit of ruckus in production one year out, but they pulled through with $350 million at the box office and received a sequel direct-to-video film shortly after. Kida and Milo joined the DP lineup, but James Arnold Taylor dubs most of Milo's subsequent appearances. That said, it was surmised that the film might've made more had it been 3D, given the growing demand for the style.
Tumblr media
Lilo & Stitch--Mostly the same, but Nani and Lilo's relationship gets more attention (in the OG film, it was important, but the B-story to Lilo and Stitch's relationship), as well as more Disney references and appearances as shown via the parody trailers. The latter detail set the stage for the cameos in "Ralph Wrecks the Internet." The film meets roughly the same success, but it gains a little bit more thanks to previous films being more successful.
Tumblr media
Treasure Planet--Mostly the same, but a crucial change is made. Given the ambition the film had already with it's story and plans to combine 2D and 3D animation, the developers noted the change in atmosphere in the animation landscape (notably with the feedback from "Atlantis") and decided to make the film completely 3D instead. While this disappoints some fans, it's financially a smarter decision, making $300 million at the box office and Disney greenlighting a straight-to-DVD sequel (and a rumored TV series that never materialized).
Tumblr media
Brother Bear--Given that "The Lion King" is with humans in this AU and "Amonute" got more praise, CEO Michael Eisner suggested a combination of the films, making another Native American musical and using animal motifs. Seeing how all their musicals had been 2D up to now, this art style was kept to not risk losing the core audience. Noting the positive feedback of the sibling relationships in "Kingdom of the Sun" and "Lilo & Stitch," they push forward with a story about three brothers who go on a journey for Kenai, the youngest, to discover his true self after being bestowed a bear totem, which he attributes to being a premonition of a poor future. In a flip to the common trope of female leads being able to speak with animals, once the brothers receive their totems, they are able to do so as well--except for Kenai, who vehemently resents and rejects his totem. The film grosses over $350 million with praise for it's depiction of Native American culture, though there was concern about the use of spirit animals being misconstrued.
Tumblr media
Rumpelstiltskin--In 2004, Disney released a powerful tale of motherhood, focusing on a young queen named Aurelia who finds her fairy tale happy ending thanks to her ability to spin straw into gold and save the kingdom from poverty. However, things go awry when a clever warlock appears and reveals that the queen isn't as graceful, clever, or skillfull as she had pretended, as he had helped her gain the king's favor, and now was taking their child as payment for it. Paying homage to classic Disney films (the animation style and storytelling is reminiscent of "Sleeping Beauty,"), the musical concerns Aurelia racing to find this creature who stole her child, as well as the name that could banish him once and for all. The film has been labeled "twisted Disney" due to Rumpelstiltskin changing his form to several darker versions of iconic Disney characters. Like with "Beauty and the Beast" (in my AU), they took influence from the film "Labyrinth," with the writers for the film researching child abduction for a more authentic and moving piece. The film's darkness made it a dark horse at the box office, grossing similar numbers to the other musicals, though it's still viewed as underrated; Aurelia was originally placed within the Disney princess line, but subsequently removed due to her physical similarities to Princess Aurora and their similar names, as well as the fact that Aurelia was a queen and controversially referred to as "too old" to join the line (both points are a source of contention among fans).
Tumblr media
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe--Released in 2005 and sometimes just marketed as "Narnia," Disney had been inspired to make the film following the success of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," though they originally planned to relocate the film to America instead of England, which eventually fizzled out. The animation style is heavily influenced by the animation style for "The Firebird Suite" from "Fantasia 2000" in order to truly transport the audience. The film plays off mostly the same as the OG timeline with similar figures (and let's assume the OG cast was re-used, with singing voices when needed; it was mostly the magical creatures who sang in the film to give Narnia a fairy tale vibe while the Pevensies were "real" people), becoming somewhat of a phenomenon thanks to it's large box office and nostalgia for fans of the book. Jadis was seen as a blueprint for Elsa later on, and Lucy was seen as too young to join the Disney princess line.
Tumblr media
Tam Lin--Released in 2006, Disney made a musical based on the folktale "Tam Lin," about a young woman who vows to rescue a man from the queen of the fairies. Given that the subject matter was similar to "Rumpelstiltskin" and this was their FOURTH musical in a row, Disney was concerned about taking on the tale and having to top (or at least meet) previous successes. As such, they did several things: the film embraces the Scottish background in contrast to previous European-esque fantasy films that went for a less clear atmosphere; the female protagonist, named Máirín, is a shy loner in comparison to the outgoing Disney females, while the male protagonist, named Sachairi, was a bit more rugged and mature than previous Disney males, inspired by video game leads like Chris Refield and Solid Snake; the story also takes influence from several other Scottish tales, such as "Rushen Coatie," and "The Sea-Maiden." The result led to a story about a woman who ventures to save the kingdom with her trusty red cow when the prince is kidnapped and imprisoned by a wicked selkie. The film earned praise for it's reliance on a specific European culture (even if some details were incorrect) and grossed $400 at the box office. Along with this, Máirín was originally intended to be a redhead, but her design eventually opted for dark brown hair, with Snow White and Natalie Portman as influences (though Pixar did use this for their own Scottish princess). As one might've expected, Máirín and Sachairi join the Disney royal line.
Tumblr media
Meet the Robinsons--Pretty much the same film, though perhaps it makes a bit more money due to the fact that it's the first non-musical Disney film in 5 years and people were curious to know if musicals was all they were good at.
Tumblr media
Night and Day--Released in 2008 after much turmoil, Disney comes up with a musical loosely inspired by "The Frog Princess" and "The Nightingale," the film revolves around a Korean prince who ventures with a magpie to find the secrets of immortality to save his ailing father. The film was more comedic in tone than previous musicals, but ironically seen as one of Disney's more intimate and emotional films, particularly between shy Prince Jiyu and Sujin (the magpie turned human), and it's praise for accuracy for Korean culture--except certain details like linguistics. It's noted that "Avatar: The Last Airbender" was a heavy influence, and while financially successful (making about $300 million), it's seen as underrated in contrast to the success reached during the revival era. But at least Sujin and Jiyu joined the Disney royal line.
Hope you don't mind me re-writing your childhood! My rewrite stuff with the Disney eras is probably done, but maybe I'll rewrite the concept of their direct-to-DVD films sometime.

Cutting Room Throwdown - Series Prelim. - Disney Films/Misc. (FIXED)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda below:
Propaganda:
Miguelito Maracas - oh yes the lost fourth member of the Three Caballeros: A cuban rooster who owned a tobacco plantation. Also he was supposed to be the smallest of the group.
Carlos Madrigal - hes so silly ur honor :) EMO BOY EMO BOY EMO BOY
Bastion - LOOK AT HIM!!! HE'S SO KIND AND HANDSOME!! It's not that I don't love canon Eugene, and they *did* recycle aspects of Bastion's character design for Kristoff later on, but just think about what might have been if he'd made it into the final film as he is in these early concepts. Big gentle giant bear disney prince, my beloved.
Yzma - Have you listened to Snuff Out the Light. Also I like Emporer's New Groove bur I want so badly to have had the old version released
Henry - Original version of the movie Bolt that was scrapped.
King Magnifico and Queen Amaya - Instead of repeating the movie's mistake and separating this amazing power couple into two, we need to keep them together! Imagine how amazing the movie could have been if they were colluding all along to take wishes! Amazing power couple for the ages! Let evil people deserve true love too!!!!
The top 2 will move on to the proper bracket alongside the Star/Starboy from Wish, Queen Elsa from Frozen, and Jack Savage from Zootopia.

"No touchy!"
Kuzco's design is so eye-catching and memorable(I find myself doodling him in sketchbooks all the time lol), I can't even be mad we never got 'Kingdom of the Sun'. I am however really mad we didn't get the Snuff Out The Light song for Yzma. Really sad this movie wasn't allowed to just bake in the oven a little more because of merchandise contracts :(( fascinating to read about tho

So we all agree Malina was based off of the scrapped love interests from kingdom of the sun, Mata and Nina? Mata + Nina = Malina? I mean just look at them and their biographies.
Mata
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She even has the Malina smirk down
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Nina
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have the same hairstyle.
While I'm glad we got the movie we got I'm also glad some of the concepts from this project lived on in the show. Guaca also was the name of a sidekick character who was Kuzco's advisor turned bad.

For Fun: Here's My Favorite Disney Songs That Were Deleted/Changed In The Final Film (Part 4)
Tumblr media
"Someday" was meant to be Esmeralda's song in Hunchback of Notre Dame, but was replaced by "God Help the Outcasts" in the final version. It was sung over the credits, however, and both would be sung in the stage adaptation.
youtube
"Shooting Star" was the original "I Want" song from Hercules, but was cut for being "too soft". I could take either or, but "Go the Distance" is still a classic.
youtube
"I Can't Believe My Heart" was Meg's original song. It was cut for similar reasons as "Shooting Star". I definitely prefer the version we got.
youtube
Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the lyrics for Pocahontas and Hunchback with Alan Menken as well as all the music for Wicked, was originally tapped to write the music for Mulan. He left early in production to work on the music for "The Prince of Egypt" at DreamWorks. "Written In Stone" is the only song of his version available to listen to. It would've been in the spot where "Reflection" exists in the final film.
youtube
Speaking of "Reflection", when composers Matthew Wilder and David Zippel joined the film after Schwartz left, they wrote a much longer version of the song. The fact that this version is not in the film is a crime.
youtube
"Keep 'Em Guessin'" would've been Mushu's song as he introduces himself to Mulan, but Eddie Murphy's dialogue worked much better, and made things much more succinct. The song is enjoyable imo, tho.
youtube
Famously, Disney was working on a film set to release in late 2000 called Kingdom of the Sun. It was a sort of an Incan retelling of The Prince and the Pauper, with some magic and gods thrown in for good measure. It was supposed to be another grand musical on the scale of The Lion King, even sharing its co-director, Roger Allers. To match that scale, they brought in musician Sting to write the songs, thinking he'd bring the same energy that Elton John brought to Lion King's songs. Sting and co-composer David Hartley wrote three songs for this version. The first, "Walk the Llama Llama", would've been the opening song. It was to be sung by the main character, Pacha (here played by Owen Wilson), a teenage llama herder who coincidentally looks exactly like the spoiled teenaged Emperor Manco (played by David Spade). The song is Pacha expressing his love for the llama as he herded them. Pacha's singing voice would've been Sting himself in the final film. There also would've been a reprise halfway through the film and at the end, though nothing from these reprises has appeared online. Unfortunately, the only clean version of the song is this country-fied version by Rascal Flats on the Emperor's New Groove soundtrack.
youtube
The second song, "Snuff Out the Light", would have been sung by the villain of the film, Yzma (as played by Eartha Kitt). In this version, Yzma would have been an aging sorceress who hated the sun for causing her wrinkles. She would've discovered that Manco and Pacha swapped, and turned the real Pacha into a non-speaking llama. She would've manipulated Pacha into doing what she wanted. She planned to summon the Dark God, Supai to block out the sun so she wouldn't grow old. This song was fully recorded, and the sequence had quite a bit of animation finished on it before the story changed.
youtube
youtube
The third song, "One Day She'll Love Me" would have been the love song of the film, and been sung by Pacha and the emperor's betrothed, Nina. Pacha has fallen in love with Nina, but feels guilty for living a lie. Nina is starting to fall in love with him, but still believes he's Manco, and doesn't know why he's changing.
youtube
Continued in Part 5!

going back to emperor's new groove as an adult, especially knowing all the bullshit it went through during production, makes me really sad.
like, i probably am not the first to say this, but the writing isn't... great. it moves too quickly. there are spectacular bits, but most of them feel extremely disconnected. they sort of acknowledge some of the bullshit with the "by all accounts it doesn't make sense" line from kronk, but lampshading it doesn't make it any better, tbh.
and seeing the test animations from snuff out the light alone, it makes me fucking mourn for the movie we could've gotten. yzma as a necromantic sorceress trying to take over the kingdom would've been an incredibly iconic and competent villain. but noooooo.
i haven't watched the sweatbox, which is a documentary made about kingdom of the sun/emperor's new groove's troubled production, but i should at some point.
i just wish we had more of that.

A Kuzlina interpretation of "My Funny Friend And Me" (Kuzlina song of the day)
I know this song was made for Pacha and Kuzco's characters in The Kingdom Of The Sun, when Kuzlina didn't even exist yet, but listening to the lyrics I think it fits so well for them too.
"And we wondered just what happened
To the life we knew
before the world changed
And not a thing I held was true"
I'm imagining this applying to Kuzco being forced off the throne into attending Kuzco Academy. He lost everything he had. His power, his money, and any respect he had as the Sapa Inca. It can also apply to Malina meeting Kuzco, as although she seemed fine in life, without meeting him she would never discover certain things about herself.
"But you were kind to me
And you reminded me
That the world is not my playground
There are other things that matter"
Malina often helps Kuzco see the value in other people and having morals, much like Pacha.
"But you stayed in my corner
The only world I know was upside down"
Malina stayed a supportive friend all throughout Kuzco's time at Kuzco academy, even when he was being difficult.
"We could be lost we could refuse to try
But we made it through in the dark night"
Again there were times when Malina and Kuzco argued and disliked eachother but ultimately they graduated on good terms and supportive of eachother.
"I'm not as clever as I thought I was
I'm not the boy I used to be because
You showed me something different, you showed me something pure
I always seemed so certain but I was really never sure"
I'm interprating this line as Kuzco being in love with Malina. He already went through an arc of character development with Pacha, but he had never been in love before or see the value in that, and I think that really changed him on a fundamental level.
"But you stayed,
And you called me name,
Others would have walked out on a lousy game"
I always think of the very first episode where Kuzbunny is all sad and alone and Malina calls out to him.<3
"Just like the patterns in the big sky
We'll be together till the end is nigh
Don't know the answer or the reason why
We'll stick together till the day we die"
I see Kuzlina as a very strong and everlasting relationship.
"If I had to do this all a second time
I won't complain or make a fuss
Who would the angels send but that unlikely blend
Of those two funny friends
That's us"
If Kuzco got to do Kuzco Academy again, I don't think he would have given Malina such a hard time or been so whiny. I do think in his universe he would see Malina, and their relationship, as a gift from the gods.  <33

Above is the initial, first ever story outline treatment for Disney's Kingdom Of The Sun, a film that never saw the light of day when the project was overhauled and became The Emperor's New Groove.
Now I love love love LOVE The Emperor's New Groove as much as anyone, and feel like if Kingdom Of The Sun was not materializing in a way deemed satisfying and workable then it was for the best that we got that film instead, it kind of irks me that this story is being slept on and no one talks about it, even when over in the Wish fandom discarded concepts like Shapeshifting Star Boy, Princess Asha, and Evil Royal Couple dominate. And what I personally love most about this story treatment is that it's skeletal yet just thorough enough in detail that on the most basic level it does legitimately, sincerely feel like a Disney animated movie story, to the point where just from reading it I can imagine what it might have been like had this been drawn, animated, voiced, scored, edited and put to film, and it's like bittersweet imaginative food.
And reading this made it occur to me that I'm so in love with the Wish: Fully Fulfilled Edition treatment I wrote up (recently revised btw!) for the very same reason. It reads like a legit Disney film, and the great, enchantingly special Disney film I would've rather we'd recieved for Disney's centennial year; not a knock against any fans who love Wish as is, it's a pleasant and enjoyable enough watch for me too but this is just how I feel it could've seen vast improvement.
(I do hope that Wish gains more of a following and appreciation like The Emperor's New Groove got for how genuinely outrageously funny it is, but for Wish it should be for how astonishingly awkward and mostly underbaked it is in its presentation despite all the best of intentions in its set-up and all that it's got going for it that could've made it an animated fairy tale masterwork rather than a fascimilied homage to the animated fairy tale masterworks of Disney's past. There really is a lot of fun that could be had there!)
So, here's to lost/alternative Disney, fellas!

Guide to my Rewrites (and other content)
I post a lot of things, and some of those things are rewrites. As such, I thought this would be a nice guide for fans of my rewrites in particular. I'm still adding new things! Lemme know what you think.
Alternate Takes (Disney)
These are projects that have the same characters and settings (for the most part), but different plot points. These particular alternate takes suggest ideas that would've made me enjoy the movie more (or at all) and aren't a fanfic so much as bullet points with pictures.
Aida
Pocahontas
Hercules
The Princess and the Frog
Tangled
Frozen
Big Hero 6
Moana
Frozen 2
Raya and the Last Dragon
Encanto
Strange World
Wish (Note: working on a full-length rewrite unrelated to the ideas used here)
I also did rewrites for two Dreamworks movies:
The Road to El Dorado
Sinbad
Reimagining Disney Movies
These are projects that take Disney's framework (ie a fairy tale) and create my own characters, plot, setting, and song titles for it.
The Snow Queen
Kingdom of the Sun
Rapunzel
Reimagining Disney eras
These posts are designed based on what if Disney eras made different decisions (either based on my own ideas or rejected concepts) for their films. Note: I made the revival post before the renaissance and post-renaissance posts, so they kind of flow in different continuities. I also wanted to include future ideas for Disney's next era. These posts also work independent of my "Alternate Take" posts.
Reimagining the Renaissance
Reimagining the Post-renaissance
Reimagining the Revival era
Plotting out the Reinvention era
Marvel
Not quite as detailed as my other rewrites, but I thought I'd include them.
Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness
Thor: Love and Thunder
X-Men (Because they have more content than my other Marvel things)
This pretty much just includes my rewrites.
X-Men: Evolution--New roster, Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Roster (Timeskip), Season 4, and Season 5 (I did a poll months ago, and maybe I'll do a post brainstorming a Marauders spinoff).
Wolverine & the X-Men--New Roster, Season 1
Fox's X-Men films (I may remake this)--Part I (First 3 films) and Part II (Phoenix, NM, and Dark Phoenix)
Extensive rewrites
TV shows that I've remade episode-for--episode, perhaps removing and adding some as I see fit.
Miraculous Ladybug--Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Season 4 (currently working on Season 5; been dragging my feet with that!)
Anime as comic books
Yes, this is a topic. I remember when I was in this headspace, and it was really fun. I basically reimagined what if popular anime had been created as superhero comic books that golden or silver age.
Dragon Ball
Naruto
Anime rewrites
Black Butler
Naruto: Part I (Part II is not cancelled; I just put it on the backburner)
High Card: Season 1 (Season 2 is not cancelled; I just put it on the backburner)
Video Game Rewrites
These aren't quite as detailed as my usual rewrites.
Bayonetta
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Fire Emblem: Fates
Fire Emblem: 3 Houses
Kingdom Hearts
Hogwarts Mystery (MAYBE; ongoing internal discussion)
My OCs
This section covers my original characters for a few fandoms. Thinking of making OCs for books/anime/comics, but I do not have the confidence that I know the universe(s) well enough.
Fictif
The Arcana
Hogwarts Legacy
Baldur's Gate 3
Mood Boards
Just something I've made for fun to inspire others! Not an expert on making them, but it was still something I wanted to do.
My Wish rewrite (temporary)
Disney's Swan Lake
Disney's Hansel & Gretel
Disney's Rumpelstiltskin
Disney's Red Riding Hood
Sub-Saharan Disney musical
Disney Superhero Film
Japanese Disney musical
Actors who could play Disney villains
Choices: Stories You Play
REALLY into this game for a period--but it started to get awful when "Witness" came into play. Here's a list of reviews (which I've stopped doing) as well as concepts for new books (originally on Reddit before I got banned).
"Before I Say I Do"
"Celebrity Status"
"Summoned to Court"
"Arkikara"
"Fairy Godparent"
"Hierarchy: Scheming University"

I wish Disney would stop the live action remakes and make movies based on the concepts of old ones.
Three examples that jump to mind. The Kingdom of the Sun version of Emperor's New Groove The version of Frozen where Elsa stays the evil Snow Queen The version of Wish where the star becomes a human guy.

The main challenge in writing this was the question of how much to focus on the actual finished products of either film represented versus the history of their infamous creation processes and how different and better they could have turned out. In Zigzag's case, I had little choice but to lean more towards the former approach since by all accounts, his role was the most fully-realized and least interfered-with compared to the other characters and storylines in The Thief and the Cobbler... with the convenient exception of an intended climax involving an illusory dragon, leading to its appearance here opposite the dark deity Supai, both artistically rendered by Fruzmig.
Additional huge special thanks for visual contribution here go to YDGeon for the ending animation.
The idea that evolved into this started years prior as Zigzag Vs. Jafar, with the Genie replacing the latter mid-battle, which I quickly abandoned after Robin Williams' official appearance with the prominent references to his Aladdin role in ERB; it's still crazy how that's still the most representation they've ever given a Disney animated film, though if such had to be limited to a depiction of an actor visually evoking their Disney character while still primarily representing the real person, Robin Williams was certainly as worthy a choice as any.
