Shlomo Ron, 85: Sacrificed himself to save his family “They protected the kibbutz and guarded the border because the kibbutz border was the border of the state. Even when they were with small children, and in the years when things started up with Gaza, they never left,” a niece said.

Israel’s resilience in the wake of the Oct 7 onslaught has astounded many of its overseas supporters and opponents alike. Israel is making an astonishing comeback, as this week’s positive newsletter highlights.   On the Jewish New Year for trees, JNF-USA volunteers planted thousands of trees at the site of the devastated NOVA music festival. Israel’s largest printing press resumed operation 3 days after Hamas overran the kibbutz. The IDF brought back a tractor stolen by Hamas on Oct 7 from Gaza to its kibbutz owners. Wounded IDF soldiers are being brought back to health thanks to heroic rescues, surgeons using hi-tech medical technology, and empathic volunteers providing rehabilitation, respite, and emotional support.   Aside from the war, Israeli medical technology brought back the ability to communicate to a paralyzed Israeli woman. And an Israeli startup won an international award for regrowing human bone tissue. Meanwhile, two initiatives are restoring trust between Israeli Jews and Arabs.   Israelis are helping the USA bring its aging power grid back to life; and an Israeli startup is recycling waste into fashion products. Israel’s economy is certainly coming back, and a new Resilience fund is helping war-impacted startups make a comeback. Meanwhile El Al is increasing its flights to bring back tourists and to encourage international business.   The warm winter and welcome rains have brought back color into Jerusalem’s streets; Israel’s ice hockey team came back from being banned from a tournament, to winning all its 5 games; and Israel just celebrated the 20th anniversary of its greatest ecological comeback – the rehabilitation of the Hula Valley.   Finally, "they will all come to Jerusalem" – as the world gradually recognizes that the Jewish People have come back to their ancestral homeland, the Indigenous peoples of the world have opened an embassy in Jerusalem. The photo is of the Netanya offices of Elbit Systems, which has helped Israel make a fighting comeback.

The remains of a 12 year old Israeli girl who was burned alive on Oct 7th have been laid to rest by her family.
Hamas terrorists burned Liel Hetzroni with her body so badly destroyed that there wasn’t even a body left to bury.
All that remained was her ash and a few bone fragments.
Her twin brother, Yanai was also burned alive.
Her grandfather was shot as he hid in a safe room on Oct 7th and bled to death.
Today her family held a farewell ceremony for her, laying her ashes to rest in a small cemetery in Kibbutz Revivim in the Negev Desert.

That should probably read "and if statements given by people held in captivity are made under duress".
Like, yes that's a large possibility given these are IOF soldiers, I'm just saying it still needs to be written specifically.

Tell me more about the kibbutz musical! I’m so intrigued!
Technically I'm not supposed to tell ppl irl but this is online sooooo. The play is about a teen and his sister moving into a kibbutz from England (they're Israeli at birth but have been living in England for most of their lives). Their dad couldn't make it with them to the kibbutz (and their mom is dead) since he has some business to take care of so they're waiting for him to arrive in the meantime. The sister Yisraela is extremely excited about living in a kibbutz in Israel and accommodates enthusiastically. But the brother Oz who is the main character misses their dad and is extremely unhappy with life in the kibbutz, having very little privacy, having to do lots of chores and sharing his things. This creates conflict with Avi, who runs the chores schedule and is pretty much the leader of their age group, so they split up said age group into those who want to keep living the traditional kibbutz life and those who want the rules to change. There's more to the plot obviously but this is pretty much the premise. The story and characters are original but we're using songs by Israeli music artist Harel Skaat. The show is called יבואו ימים אחרים (other days will come) which is his most recent song and the one the musical ends on.

JULY 7 2024 - Israeli media Haaretz finally confirms that on October 7th, three Israeli army facilities used the Hannibal directive, an Israeli military policy that dictates the use of maximum force to prevent the capture of an IDF soldier by enemy forces, including the preemptive killing of their own soldiers in order to prevent them from being taken hostage.
Haaretz also confirms because of the Hannibal Directive, the IDF indiscriminately launched mortar shells, tank fire and artillery fire at anything moving in Gaza's direction, close to the communities of Be’eri & Kfar Aza, without knowing how many soldiers, hostages, or civilians were there, which likely killed civilians and hostages. Haaretz notes on instance where the IDF killed 13 hostages in the house of Pessi Cohen at Kibbutz Be'eri due to indiscriminate shelling.
This comes eight months after Haaretz had originally wrote articles labelling independent journalists "conspiracy theorists" and "denialists" for investigating and suggesting that Israel used the Hannibal Directive on October 7th.

Kibbutz leader confirms movement’s role in establishing and maintaining Israeli apartheid
The kibbutz has long been celebrated by liberals as an example of Israel's socialist pedigree, but movement head Nir Meir says the “first mission” of kibbutzim was “to conquer the land," and today it stands ready to "maintain outposts" by Gaza.
