Moves and countermoves
There is no space in the thoroughly colonised mind for the notion that the unique democratic legitimacy of the Scottish Parliament could trump the authority of a parliament that derives its authority from a guy in a sparkly hat.
As I began to read in The National of a new report which recommends the Scotland Office be given powers to call an independence referendum, I experienced a moment of dread that I was about to be told an SNP spokesbladder had welcomed the suggestion. (Give UK Government new indyref powers to break stalemate, major report says) As it turned out, my fears proved unfounded – at least for the moment.…

You know for someone that has not infrequently defended kezia dugdale (because I feel sorry for her) I sometimes forget that she was rude to me once at an independence debate summer 2014

As bad a Scottish Labour leader she was, I actually feel quite sorry for Kezia Dugdale. She’s been absolutely hounded by her own party and they’ve treated her like shit, going so far as refusing to sit next to her in the Scottish Parliament.

Politics gotta have soul!
Politics gotta have soul!
Did you hear Kezia Dugdale’s statement announcing her departure from ‘front-line’ politics to become a name on the letterhead of the John Smith Centre for Public Service? Did you manage to hold on to your breakfast?
Her career having suffered a catalogue of self-inflicted setbacks and evidently weary of being just another British politician squatting in the Scottish Parliament on the seats…

okay so I literally just found out about this and I need to share ???
so this is Kezia Dugdale, she was born in Aberdeen, she’s a Member of the Scottish Parliament (=MSP) for Labour, used to be the leader of the Scottish Labour party. meaning, she’s an actual serious politician and all.
Tumblr media
she’s currently on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, which I mean, whatever, she wants to reach more people and get more recognition, I guess and she is donating the money she gets for the show and her MSP salary for the three weeks she’s away to charity, so. (btw she almost got suspended from the party because she forgot to disclose that she’ll be out of the country during a parliamentary session which is hilarious)
Tumblr media
well anyway, it turns out she has a girlfriend !! and WAIT FOR IT her girlfriend is also a politician: an another MSP !! her name is Jenny Gilruth, she is very vocal about sexual harassment and female representation in parliament
Tumblr media
but THAT’S NOT ALL because you’re probably thinking oh, they must have met at like a Labour party event and started dating, BUT YOU WOULD BE WRONG, BECAUSE GUESS WHAT
she is an MSP for the SNP !!! THE SCOTTISH NATIONAL PARTY !! LIKE CAN YOU BELIEVE, THEY ARE IN OPPOSING PARTIES
AND THEY ARE IN LOVE ??? LOOK HOW CUTE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
seriously though !!! Jenny drags the Labour party on her twitter ALL THE TIME, they must have SO MANY disagreements, but you know what else she does ???
tweets about watching Bake-Off with her girlfriend
Tumblr media
she defends her when it comes to trolls ???
Tumblr media
she supports her !!!!
Tumblr media
she drags her when she gets Harry Potter questions wrong on I’m A Celeb
Tumblr media
they go to football games together because if one thing they can agree on is that Scotland should always win
Tumblr media
and they are just generally good inspirational strong LGBTQ+ women
Tumblr media
anyway, the point is that feminism is well and alive and I’ll let Scotland’s First Minister finish it for me:

Don’t Be Mistaken About Sturgeon..!
The SNP is a deeply illiberal party of hypocrites.
It pretends to be progressive, calls itself ‘social democratic.  Yet not only is it, in reality, a blood and soil ethnic nationalist socialist movement, it is STUFFED with real homophobia.
At one point - when the leaders of Labour, the Conservatives and the Scottish Greens were all openly gay - the SNP still presided over its feral army of vile ‘cybernats’.  They spouted hate and rage from behind keyboards across Scotland and beyond.  In addition, volunteers, councillors and office-holders of the SNatis party too would take their rage and bile cues from the SNP leadership and vent hate speech at meetings and demonstrations, in gatherings and conference fringes.
The rank anglophobia was so commonplace its went unremarked.  But plenty of the ‘joyous and civic’ nationalists also made their hate of Scotland’s other parties into homophobic jibes.  Ruth Davidson, the former Conservative leader, was called a “Dyke” in an SNP skit performed at a party social gathering.  The ‘hilarious’ skit was publicly praised by resident in-house lesbian Joanna Cherry - which was supposed to make the homophobia immune from criticism.  It didn’t work.  Yet it still took more work on the SNP before there was any kind of apology (and it wasn’t a real apology at that..!)
See also the forensic takedown of SNatsi cyber-trolls in another blog.
Kezia Dugdale was pursued by an online hate-monger, exile-SNatsi and foul reprobate for calling out his hate words.  He feigned £25,000 worth of hurt and loss.  The judge said “no”.  And even if he’d won his case (which he didn’t) he was worth only £100.  Yet hundreds of SNatsis rallied to HIS aid and his banner as he tried to shut up an openly gay politician after she dared to speak up for decency and called him out on what she clearly saw as homophobia.
At the same time as alas this - this party apparently enforces a ‘SUPER INTERDICT’ - obtained from the courts in Scotland -  to prevent any and all talk in public about Sturgeon’s alleged sexual antics.  Its a ‘super interdict’ because it also prohibits talk about theft that there even is an Interdict!
THAT’s how paranoid the SNP is about any suggestion that Sturgeon’s marriage is a sham or that she is shacked up with a lover somewhere in the Bridge of Allen.
The question is, then, just how progressive are you:
when attacking someone’s sexuality is apparently fair game;
when even your openly lesbian members praise homophobia it its a form of political attack on your opponents; and
when the sex-life of your allegedly secretly lesbian leader is so controversial it has to be shielded by one of the most draconian and illiberal legal moves on the books?
The truth is - like on every other subject - this aspect of the ugliness of this parcel of crooks, rogues, thugs, and shouty, angry hate-warriors, will out.
The SNP is NOT a cuddly soft-left progressive party - its a deeply illiberal pathogen dedicated to one thing.  It quite prepared to mimic any other form of political life, and even to kill-off its host, just so long as it gets its way.

The episodes are definitely getting more entertaining, but I do hope someone blows soon- I'm looking forward to a good argument -"we lost ours [dignity] a long time ago" 😂😂 -I love how bad this trial is and how everyone knows it -why did Iain's voice go really high pitched when he was talking about the cockroaches? -do you want to tell us how perfectly safe it is again Iain? -"it'll be a celebration chunder" oh that's a lovely image isn't it -oh wow, it's really touching that Becky was talking about her depression- that was so brave -I don't think just asking the pig to move will work Dennis -Kath doesn't have the same effect as Keith -isn't Kez on maintenance? Why is Amir kicking off at her keeping up the fire? -they do like that explosion metaphor don't they -I'm really excited to see Stanley to do a trial, I hope he does really well. Let me know what you thought!

I just blogged at Musings Of A Mild Mannered Man - Kezia Dugdale’s girlfriend defends decision to appear on I’m A Celebrity
The girlfriend of former Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale has defended her decision to appear on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! The former leader, who stepped down in August, joins Boris Johnson’s dad Stanley Johnson and Dennis Wise, a former footballer. While the other...

The outcast of Scottish Labour takes a brilliant swing at Tory Adam Tomkins. If only she’d had the courage to do this during her leadership.
Still good to see though.
