Heckle is the media/news site for the Scotland-based Republican Socialist Platform, one of the more revolutionary groups to emerge from the Radical Independence Campaign. It hosts a bunch of really interesting articles and opinions, and if you're looking for a leftwing Scottish news platform then I wholeheartedly recommend checking it out!

So fucking tired of being told trans rights need to be put on hold so whatever project establishment “lefties” are working on at the moment isn’t inconvenienced.
This is a post about Scottish Indy voters who support Kate Forbes

Scotland, 2014
The positive energy and sheer hope I felt as a 17 year old in September 2014 is something that I'll remember for the rest of my life. That brief moment in time where the world was for the taking and the things I wanted for my country lay just on the other side of a ballot shaped my politics forever. 18th September 2014 was truly the day I became insufferable about Scotland and her potential, and 10 years later I'm still, happily, insufferable.
(PS if you're into fantasy, I wrote a novel to capture the hope and frustration that comes with being a pesky separatist)

It's been a while since I've politic-posted on here but with the announcement of a GE in the UK (male sure to register and remember you need a photo ID at polling stations now) I'm fully expecting the SNP to take a hammering with the Labour 'resurgence'. While I hope for the sake of Independence (which is still the path I feel is the correct one for Scotland) that they bounce back, people throughout the SNP need to take a long hard look at the shambles that has been the last few years and find a way to rebuild public trust. Maybe the hammering will do them some good.

At this point….
… it’s, honestly, just awkward for everyone…
why don’t you just try to slink off quietly - and let us for get you, while we come with your monumental failures in the last 15 years and all the damage you have done….

people on here are so... uninformed about scottish politics. believe it or not some scottish people dont want independence... there was a whole referendum and 55% of ppl voted to remain in the union. also not everyone in scotland hates being called british, and i know people who refer to themselves as british because of the indyref movement. you dont have to understand you just have to like trust me when i say its maybe a bit more varied in scotland than tumblr would have you believe. lol.
#personally im ambivalent about independence and im not pro-union#but i dont trust the snp to do a good job at all so i wouldnt want independence under them#anyway.#it just pisses me off when non-scots/ppl who dont live here make sweeping assumptions about scotland#people in a country actually have varying views would you believe#also i dont like nationalism and i am kind of averse to labelling myself as either scottish or british i dont really care what you call me#technically both are correct so.#i usually say scottish because culturally that feels more right also people tend to like scottish people#but i dont really mind or care

Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply (see additional tags)
Relationships: Ethos/Phobos, Deimos/Praxis
Summary: A modern-setting AU in which Jules (Phobos) the high-strung Londoner visits the Scottish countryside for some relaxation and has a meet-cute with Aidan (Ethos) the sheep farmer while en route to the B&B where he is staying. Sheep-related antics ensue. Somehow, against all odds, Jules leaves his heart at the gateway to the Highlands.
Your eyes do not deceive you, friends. The link preview does say "Chapter 16", but I have not skipped a chapter. This is indeed Chapter 15 (the final chapter!) of Scottish AU, but the fic on AO3 has been rearranged to add a new chapter 1, which is a gorgeous cover image I commissioned from @prismatic-cannon in celebration of finally finishing my magnum opus. For ease of viewing, you can see the cover image in its full glory here on tumblr, too!
Here's some self-indulgent looking back on a list of things I didn't know when I started writing Scottish AU:
That between my career taking off and developing what was for a long time diagnosed as a chronic overuse injury (and turned out to be osteoarthritis with a side of mild tendonitis & tenosynovitis) it would take me more than 6 years to finish the first fic/arc of the longer story I'd planned out sob sob
That Scottish Romance is, in fact, a surprisingly large subgenre (I'm not generally a reader of published romance novels)
That JKR bankrolled the anti-independence campaign prior to the 2014 referendum (what a cunt, aye?)
Exactly how Brexit would play out and whether or not it would spur another indyref in short order
That a global pandemic would dash my plans to return to Scotland in 2020 (and every year of the new decade since) once I finally:
a) wasn't completely skint and would have cash to do all the touristy shit
b) was allowed to drink again and would be able to actually enjoy all the glorious whisky
Now to have a wee dram in celebration of my longest ongoing fic finally being completed! Thank you to everyone who read even a chapter of it or cheered me on or sent me stupid sheep fucking jokes. And thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the readers who have stuck around and actually read the whole mess from start to finish. I adore every single one of you!
If I one day get around to writing the other arcs I originally outlined for this fic, they will be new fics and I’ll put them into a series. But for now, this is where our tale ends <3
And yes, readers with keen memories will clock the inspiration for part of this chapter from something I reblogged many moons ago. Thanks Vi <3

Not sure if I can call myself diasporic Scottish/English/German/whatever my ancestors were. Like, after enough generations of separation, one is less diasporic ___, and more of... whatever they are now. The Scots language generally comes easily to me, though (though I must admit "smack barm pet wet" and "Wigan kebab" threw me for a damned loop), and whenever I see or hear something Scottish... It just feels "right". Too bad my ancestors weren't officially part of a clan, but given that they were probably border reivers - Scottish-English mercenaries and thieves - it makes sense. Still makes it hard to learn the history, though. As distant as I am, as far removed by space and time, I feel a small measure of kinship; and I'm still angry over the 2016 Indyref. There's no way the English didn't rig it. I don't hate the English, but it's long past time the English surrendered their dominion over Scotland, as well as Wales, North Ireland (26+6=1), and, Hell, I'll even throw in the Isle of Man and Cornwall. Also, the English deserve better than to have a monarch, and I anxiously await the day that they all realize that, instead of the situation right now, where some of them realize it, but are targeted by the royal pompous asses in power.

Monday Club T-shirt
Sifting through clothes and binning a lot as I prepare to move back to Edinburgh I came across this throwback from the run up to Indyref in 2014, kindly gifted to me and designed by my friend Brooke Kenney from Minnesota.

the fact that the snp are the ones leading the ceasefire stuff in parliament…… and all the fucking tories voted against. not to indyref agitate on main but i am fucking sick and tired of scotland getting dragged into the bad decisions of westminster. NONE OF US VOTED FOR YOU, YOU GREEDY XENOPHOBIC PRICKS.
#plant rant#every snp mp is backing the ceasefire#and it counts for nothing.#fuck this stupid fascist country. anyway.#i do not want to detract from the importance of advocating for the ceasefire btw. that’s the most important thing here#it’s just a very telling litmus test of how the government really works innit#and don’t even get me started on them bringing fucking cameron back. and all the rwanda shit.#and kier starmer continuing to show his true colours as a tory in disguise. fucking hell
